urbanshade is literally the most insane company ever like. they kidnapped an angel so they could drink its blood. they made a deal with literal satan so he wouldn’t turn them all into trees when they died. they tortured a guy so hard he turned into a fish, and then apologized to him by making him do janitorial work for the rest of his life. they copyright claimed a forest. they killed someone because they were jealous he had a better computer than they did. they used the corpse of a god to power their super secret underwater facility. they sent thousands of convicted criminals to their deaths in a glorified game of go fetch. their leader is a decrepit century-old man in a wheelchair. they have a really spooky box. they’re the reason there’s a giant pentagram carved into the moon. they opened a doorway to another dimension on complete accident. they’re doing all of this in the name of sweet, sweet capitalism

Some quick concept sketches for some hypothetical biomes in the dark forest

I’ve always thought that it would be so cool if the dark forest wasn’t just forest, and had other environments; but like they’re twisted or corrupted in a way. Like a foggy, barren swamp that reeks of flesh and rotting matter, with sludgy dark water like mud(the water being smth they actually have in the books). Or a snowy field that stretches as far as the eye can see, that would be so easy to get lost in that some df spirits that wander into it never come out again and are lost there for eternity. Or open red skies, and tall, rolling hills covered with withering, blood-stained flowers. Basically I wish the Erins had fully explored the true horror of the DF but I get why they might not have wanted to do that, considering all the little kids reading these books

(although tigerstar literally gets ripped open and dies NINE TIMES OVER in arc 1, and squilf literally gets dragged to hell by the spirit of her ex possessing her mate’s body, so I don’t actually know if i believe that argument)

btw the first drawing was inspired by the song ‘stranded lullaby’ by miracle musical, I feel like the entirety of Hawaii pt 2 just fits seb and his story so well (especially with the whole ocean theme, like, hello??? you cannot make this up that album is literally him)

I actually like both of these designs, I just felt that I hadn’t quite landed on the right one for how I personally wanted to draw him
