afton is not the most sociable man in his apartment building to anyone but mia. hence, he tells her and only her everything. just about the only thing he hasn't told her is his involvement in the trojan horse project. does or did he ever have plans to tell her? no. at least, not until the project was finished and it was safe for employees to talk about it.

one day, a radio broadcast was sent out. nobody knows who or what sent it. the voice exposed the project's intentions and everybody working on it, with the very first name being said was that of dr. w. afton. of course, everybody in his apartment complex recognized the name as the physicist living in the first apartment of the third floor.

everybody was, of course, shocked and upset by the news. how couldn't they be? there was a monster living in their apartment. this impacted everyone hard, but the person who was hurt the most was will's loving fiancée, mia stone. afton told her everything. so why didn't he tell her this?

the two agreed to always tell each other secrets and would promise not to tell anyone. afton had once told mia he had one massive secret he couldn't share with her until a later date. if she were to ever find out beforehand, he'd have to kill her.

this was that secret.
