Cal fighting Kevin and Tyler,,

He’s been taunting these guys ever since they went up on stage to voice their poem. Andre, however, keeps apologizing on his behalf, because if Cal won’t be mature, then he will. He’s also frustrated because he doesn’t know why Cal’s targeting two dudes that haven’t messed with them, that haven’t given them any trouble.

While the building’s small and hardly any people have attended, Cal still wants to convey a forewarning through something as subtle and symbolic as a piece of literature. He doesn’t want people to cry wolf, though— he wants them to think.

Yet Calvin’s being a jackass. He keeps interrupting both teens and mocking their performance. He believes that they go to a different school— after all, he hasn’t recognized them around campus, so he doesn’t mind poking fun. After a couple minutes, Andre tries to cease any tensions Cal may have created between them through his decision to leave.

Soon, after following Andre and Cal, instead of trying to chew them out, one of the boys— Kevin— hurls himself right at Andre, slamming himself into his body and almost knocking the camcorder right out of his hands. Cal instantly springs up and lunges, shoving Kevin over the grounded ledge he was seated on prior.

Andre instantly steps back, turns off the camcorder, and clutches it tightly as to not drop and break it. It feels like fury himself’s crawling out of his pores while he cusses under his breath, observing the weird glint Cal’s got in his eye. He can so clearly spot it in his weirdly emotionless face; it exposes his craving for intimidation and superiority.

He can never really tell what Cal’s thinking or feeling, but in this moment, he’s uneasy. He realizes that he’s always had to be the one to yank Cal away from the grubby claws of hostility, of hostile situations. He’s had to be the rational one… yet, he knows Cal’s smart— he puts in the effort when he feels like it.

But he functions by following this don’t think, just do, mindset. Andre can tell Cal doesn’t even regret it later. It’s fucking annoying, and for him to conclude he’s unable to understand this part of Cal— it’s ironic.

Andre and Cal are supposed to be the only ones who really understand each other— this unspoken agreement ties them together. But even Andre deems certain aspects of Cal unsolvable.

Tyler tries to grab Kevin and pull him away, but Cal slams his elbow into his side, catching him off guard. The guy fights back, however, by latching onto Cal’s shirt and roughly wrenching him away from Kevin. He throws a punch that hits Calvin’s stomach so hard he swears he can hear the air whooshing out of his lungs.

He doubles over but remains fairly steady, wheezing and grinding up the oxygen that’s trying to break into his trachea. He regains his breath after a beat and he forces himself upright when he’s propelled back by Kevin. He wants to tackle Tyler even though he’s about to get double teamed.

Andre holds the camera in one hand while he cuts the tussle short with the other. He snatches Cal by the arm and pulls him down the sidewalk, ignoring the two teens as they shoot profanity their way. Once he lets go of Cal, he’s recording again, forcing the camcorder into his arms.

Now he’s the one who’s going to be chewing Cal out.
