All anti BDSM arguments start from the base assumption that kink, and BDSM in particular is something only one party (the Dom/me) gets off on while the sub I guess just… takes it? 

That’s completely wrong and ignorant at best, and straight up offensive and degrading at worst.

Look (and I’m not a Dom so feel free to correct me), BDSM works in one of two ways. Either:

a) Both parties get off on the thing equally

And honestly it’s kind of scary that some of you think Doms shouldn’t be enjoying it? Are you ok with having sex with someone, if you know they aren’t enjoying it? Because that’s what you’re implying.

or b) The sub gets off on it, and the Dom gets off on the sub getting off on it (and other things like emotional intimacy, trust etc.)

And the other thing is, the sub gets the final say. This is what “the sub is actually the one in control means.”

Like obviously, if the Dom has some boundaries those should be kept, but also, if the Dom wants to do something, but the sub doesn’t, then guess what - it’s not happening! (And of it does happen then that’s abuse/rape).

That’s why safe words exist, that’s why hard (and soft) limits exist, that’s why people have contracts and negotiate. Even in the most extreme scenarios, like a 24/7 Master/slave relationship, the “slave” would have hard limits, sometimes an option to pull the plug with either s safe word or finally - the option to break up the relationship.

So like. Next time you want to write about how problematic it is that people get off on xyz, think about what you’re really implying about their partners and their relationships.
