Sinners is an excellent horror film for many reasons, but to me the most central is that it is horror with something interesting to say and ask. The film explores the ways in which colonialism, white supremacy, and racial capitalism impact how people form relationships, build community, create art, practice spirituality, connect to history, and value other people. It also has something interesting to ask about what it means to be someone who is part of a population that is considered ontologically always dying and already dead.
As you consider these themes, I would like to ask you to extend your thoughts to Fadel. Like the fictional protagonist Sammie, Fadel is a talented, kind, young adult who has dreams for his life and enduring love for his family and community.
He is a disabled and injured Palestinian in Gaza, part of a population who much of the world reduces to their suffering and deaths, as if their early death is an inevitability. It is not. It is preventable.
He is alive right now. You can message him, check in on him, extend your love and care to him ( @fadel-dani ). He needs some money to get to a hospital resourced enough to treat his injuries after a bombing. I know you can empathize with being in pain, with health care being inaccessible and stunningly expensive. You have common humanity with him. You understand him.
Fadel is not a story. His future is not fated or scripted or set in stone. The way his life unfolds is entirely dependent on the social systems around him and the decisions of people who have resources, especially people like us who are not in active genocide, who get pay checks every couple weeks or every month.
Your decisions matter. Please help him out.
His campaign is vetted by: @gazavetters list (#197) and @90-ghost and @a-shade-of-blue

Sorry if this comes off as rude in anyway btw I totally get why you don’t think gaster is or shouldn’t be too important to deltarune there’s already a lot going lol
I think your Kris DID take is interesting but doesn’t chapter 4’s weird route disprove that? Unless you take it as metaphorical I guess
also I’ve seen that you think gaster isn’t important and I disagree BUT I’m curious on what you think the mysterious voice that others think is gaster actually is in your opinion. Like the intro of deltarune, the text you get when fighting the knight, and the tweets made on the undertale account when a new chapter releases
yeah, my take on weird route is that some part of kris has genuine motive behind doing all that, mostly through the perversion of various innocuous wants like wanting noelle to be stronger, wanting to feel understood in the pain they've had to bear, wanting noelle to recognize that she struggles with a lot of the same things they do, wanting to connect with noelle deeper and have her accept that theyre different now, as well as a desire to lash out from all this. i've outlined a good few of these in previous posts of my krissociation meta tag that you can look at. i think my reading gives a lot more color to kris as a character and makes them feel more real, especially as someone who struggles with delusions and compulsions like that. it's a personal thing for me.
and about the voice, like. i am not denying that the voice could be gaster, it reasonably could, i just don't know what that's supposed to do for me? like how would that voice being gaster be different from that voice being anyone else we don't know about yet. gaster is not supposed to be taken for granted as common knowledge, everything about him is hidden in the absolute margins of undertale and you can go multiple playthroughs without ever learning anything about him, so it would be sort of ridiculous to expect the little scraps of knowledge given about him in undertale to have absolute plot relevance in deltarune.
this is not to say he can't play a role, he would just need to be built up to and introduced properly first. and until that process begins in required gameplay i cannot in good faith put any level of personal investment in his involvement in things because he's not even a character. all that defines gaster is hidden details that play with the concept of a cut character having actually once been an important individual in the world of the game and disappearing under circumstances that are obscured beyond recognition, as is the nature of cut content. and that's cool! i like that, i like what toby did with gaster. but that alone cannot carry my interest, that is not something that can stake narrative intrigue for me, especially in a different video game with things i care a lot more about already.

That makes things a lot clearer I was surprised cause to me I thought it was obvious that the intrigue around gaster IS the mystery and it IS the little we know about him from undertale. It’s like any other shadowy character, we are being foreshadowed their importance and their role so the fans put together their purpose. To me it felt strange to deny any relevance he might have just because you can’t talk to him in game or because he hasn’t been mentioned yet despite the fact we know he exists.
I totally understand criticizing how he’s being handled tho! A lot of deltarunes extended lore is hidden away in side content like the spamton sweepstakes as well as a lot of the stuff related to dess. Gaster even moreso since we don’t even know if he’s gotten canon in game appearances yet. Also I agree with the built up point youve mentioned about gaster. I do think most fans agree that he still needs to be built up I’d say especially the ones confident in his importance cause it’s true mystery and theory crafting doesn’t make a satisfying narrative.

I’m realizing how neurotic I’ve been over a lot of things especially leisurely things. I think the reason I haven’t read the comics I’ve been meaning to watch the shows I want, or play my backlog of games is I overthink the time of everything! I keep trying to micromanage the amount of time I have for leisure I’m making it a chore for myself. I’ve seen this a lot lately for games I’ve been meaning to start yakuza 0 and blood borne but I keep focusing on the time it takes to beat the games or being afraid that I might lose track of the story of one game over another. I end up not starting either or stalling on a certain part for fear of story progression which is so stupid of me! I wonder if it’s related to adhd or not

if you're in Europe PLEASE consider signing the Stop Destroying Games initiative. the deadline is July 31st 2025. i've posted about it before; it aims to create legislation for publishers to stop killing the games you pay for and to provide an end-of-life plan for live-service products. thank you!!!
