Lumberjanes Week Day 4/5 - AU Day & OTP Day

Was a day late and a dollar short with my planned Infinity Train AU, so I decided to make it extra Hes/Diane and give you two for the price of one. I don’t know if they’re actually my Lumberjanes OTP, but goddamn are they the most fun to write. 

.

The second most infuriating thing about the Evil Forest Car (as Wren had so optimistically dubbed it) was that the door was absolutely impossible to find.

The most infuriating thing, of course, was its goddamn denizen.

She looked so human that, for a moment, Hes had really thought that they were going to get another member of their sad little party. This fantasy had lasted for most of the day, during which time the denizen had hacked away a cluster of branches and led them to a river of clean water with an unerring sense of direction. She had looked more irritated than afraid, and Hes had suddenly found herself dreaming of getting some actual competence into their group.

But then, of course, Hes had to glance at her hand. For two beautiful seconds, she forgot where they were, forgot that a normal hand was a Bad Sign. Diane had long fingers, well-trimmed nails. Her skin looked smooth, but Hes knew that was kind of a weird thing to think about. 

It hit her like a train from the Getting Hit By Trains Car: no number. Not a passenger.

Diane was something else.

this idea just came and hit me out of nowhere, so, uh...enjoy this, i guess!

april has one of those aesthetically pleasing craft channels!! she'd make a bunch of tutorials for stuff like drawing, scrapbooking, origami: you name it, there's probably at least one video of her doing it on her channel :) she also livestreams once a week and always gets distracted by the chat and ends up burning her hand with the glue gun

jo's channel would start off as just a way to document her science experiments and present them to her class, but would slowly turn into a frequent hobby. she would become the internet's favorite 14-year-old mad scientist and wear that title like a badge of honor. aside from videos of her robotics and engineering triumphs (and occasional flops), jo gets into the habit of recording the secret robot fighting ring her and her peers participate in off campus

mal actually had youtube experience before she started her own channel, since she managed her band's, but because of the technical skill, her personal one took off pretty quickly. she posts her own original songs, covers, and the weekly vlog with molly (they also did a cover of "closer to fine" by the indigo girls with molly on lead vocals and everyone loved it).

molly's channel has a...very specific vibe to it. she just takes her camcorder into the woods whenever she goes on walks and records anything interesting and/or creepy that she finds. she also doesn't talk that much, just adds text while editing. think "hiimmarymary" and "the blair witch project" hybrid. my girl would accidentally create a found footage film/ARG without even realizing it. the internet got to see her meet bubbles, though :,)

ripley's channel is just complete and total chaos. one video will be cooking and the next will be her ballroom dancing with a raccoon. no one can predict what comes next because A) her posting schedule just doesn't exist, and B) her channel doesn't really have a specific theme. she just posts whatever makes her happy and honestly? thats valid.

jen doesn't actually have a youtube channel of her own, but she's made multiple appearances on the girls' channels that people in the comments are begging her to start one of her own. jen just likes being a frequently reoccurring character :)

‘Lumberjanes’ Animated Series in the Works at HBO Max 

 Lumberjanes, the Eisner-winning Boom! Studios comic book, is in development to be an animated series for HBO Max.  Noelle Stevenson, who co-created the book and proved her animation mettle showrunning Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, is writing and executive producing.  The project is in development at the streamer, and should it venture forward, would launch with an animated special that would lead into a series. Stevenson would direct the special and some of the episodes.  Lumberjanes tells of five friends — April, Jo, Mal, Molly and Ripley — who meet one fateful summer at a camp named Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thilstle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types. Their differences aren’t the only thing they have to canoe around, as the girls soon discover there are mysterious and supernatural forces afoot.  The comic was created by Stevenson, Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis and Brooklyn A. Allen and launched in 2014. It proved a runaway hit, with more than 1.5 million copies of the trade paperbacks sold since. Lumberjanes has run for over 70 issues and 13 graphic novels, won multiple Eisner Awards, and won the GLAAD award for outstanding comic book thanks to its exploration of female friendship and strong LGBTQ representation.
