It reeked of alcohol. But, you get used to it as you grow older, you thought. Alcohol was dangerous. Imagine the things it could make you do. That's why you avoided it in the first place. But now? You felt as though the room was spinning and that every motion of every person was merged to create some sort of big dancing shadow. It made you dizzy and nauseous. It didn't help how your friends had left you alone near the drinks.

What else could've you done? Situations like these where you feel as tho energy has been drained from you, you'd usually sit in a random corner and seek his comfort. He was your safe haven. Your resting place. Well, used to.

Who is who? Where is where? What is what? You didn't know, and you didn't really care as you stood up to venture into the alluring mantra of the crowd. Were you dancing? Were you walking? Were you running? Walking, you decided, just as you bump into what seemed to be a table, accidentally causing an empty bottle to shatter. Could this night get any worse?

"Shit, I'm sorry.." You bent down to pick the shards up. Beside you, someone reached out and started cleaning as well. You couldn't decipher who the person was, and you didn't really want to.

"Wait, [Name]?"

You recognized that voice.

"Aether?"

"You were stumbling and shit... um, are you okay? Do you need help?" After ensuring that the floor was hazard-free, he cautiously grabs your shoulders to balance you.

"I'm alright, just a bit tipsy and dizzy. Thanks, though." You stare at the floor where the bottle once laid, your cheeks heating up from embarrassment.

"If you say so. I'll walk you back to one of your friends." He offers, carefully guiding you.

This was awkward. He didn't know you, you didn't know him. He was pretty popular around campus, though.

His pace slows down when he realizes you were lagging behind. "So, uh, how's the party going for you? Other than breaking bottles, of course."

You scoff. "Could be better right now. What about you?"

"It's nice, you know, a good distraction." You two stop by a table. "I actually have a report due in two days, and my partner's been doing all the work while I spent the whole holidays doing nothing. I feel bad."

"It's okay, I'm sure your partner understands."

"Yeah," He shoots you a knowing look. "You know him. Heizou? You two are friends, right?"

Your heart drops when you hear that recognizable name. It felt like late night conversations, Lego building dates, and unwavering trust all over again.

"Excuse me?" That caught you off guard.

In a state of panic and nausea, you blurt out, "Oh, him? No. We're not friends. I only played minecraft with him a few times, and that's just that. We - we were never friends. Where did you get that idea? We only talked -"

Aether scratched his head, a bit confounded. "No problem, Childe. See you." Nonetheless, he smiles and waves you both farewell.

A small grin made its way onto Ajax's face as he tenderly wraps his arm around your waist.

"This is so unnecessary. You smell like vodka, by the way. Gross." You mumble.

"Worth it." He merely shrugs, fully aware of the fact that Heizou had watched the whole scene unfold.

At least she's getting better, he thought. Back then, when they last broke up, she had dumped him, and he spent months feeling like an empty shell, waiting to be filled by her again and again. That is - until he met you.

That gnawing pulse in his heart whenever he thinks of you resurfaces again. He should've reached out. He should've apologized. He would've done things differently.

"Heizou," Kazuha calls out from beside him, causing Heizou to ground himself once more. "I'm gonna head over to Xingqiu to chat. Just call if you need something, alright?"

A smile makes its way onto Heizou's face. "Yeah, yeah, of course. Don't cheat on me, alright?"

"You're ridiculous." Kazuha chuckles and walks off. Just as he does, another figure approaches him. Archons, he just wanted some alone time right now...

"Hey there, Aether." He forces a smile throughout the whole duration of their conversation. At least Aether was an easy guy to talk to.

"How is -" he gets cut off at the sound of glass shattering. He looked around, and his heart almost restricted. Bent down, looking like a total mess, picking up sharp pieces of glass with no protection - was you.

He instinctively reached out before retracting his hand and deciding not to.

"Hey, isn't that [Name]?" Aether quips.

Heizou softly pushes Aether towards you. "You wanna repay me for working my ass off in the holidays? Go help her. Make sure she doesn't hurt herself from the glass, then take her to one of her friends,"

"Hey, wait a moment -"

He continues pushing Aether. "If possible, drive her home. I'll send you her address if it comes to that. Don't tell her I'm making you do this, though. Okay?" He finishes with a pinched smile. Force of habit, he couldn't help his concern.

Aether was already by the table before he could even protest.

In the corner, Heizou observes. Why were you so pretty even when you were intoxicated and on the verge of passing out? He wishes he could be the one to take care of you without consequences. He owed you too much, anyway.

"Oh, him? No. We're not friends. I only played minecraft with him a few times, and that's just that. We - we were never friends. Where did you get that idea? We only talked -"

Looking around for a more secluded area, you catch the glimpse of one of your friends, Yanfei, getting rather intimate with a brunette girl. In another corner, Ajax is chatting a random freshman up. Typically. Meanwhile, earlier, an intoxicated Kaveh left, being picked up by his roommate who you assumed was his lover. You sigh. Even in a sea filled with gleeful people around you, loneliness never failed to loom over your figure from time to time. Surrounded by lovers, alienated by reclusion.

Hope is strong, you think. You hope that one day, you could also experience what it would be like to ditch a friend at a party to spend time with the person you love. To hold hands under a table, maybe whisper things into each other's ears, knowing that no one else is able to enter your small world but you two. You hope that -

"Hello?" You gulp, trying to make your voice sound better than usual. Less awkward.

The familiar voice put a smile on your lips. You could almost see him smirk from just hearing him.

"It's true, though!" You can hear him yawn from his end.

"I won't fight you there. Anyways, how's your night going?"

"And how's your night going?"

"It was fun at first, you know, oh, and I convinced Yanfei to talk to her crush!"

"Well, I'm glad you were having fun." He chuckles. "You feel drained yet?"

"Very. I wanna go home so bad but I worry about my friends."

He sighs. "They're adults now. You should do what you want, and it's clear to me that you're very tired right now. Don't force yourself."

"I know. And it really is fine. I'm not that tired, just a bit overstimmulated."

He huffs. "Stubborn ass."

"Says you."

A lazy chuckle can be heard from his end accompanied by a yawn.

"Aw, someone's sleepy."

"Yeah, well, I had to finish 2 reports today. My gosh, I'm such a good student." He chuckles. "A role model, even. Instead of partying, I'm being a responsible student. You know, [Name], you should really be more like me."

"Uh-huh... yeah, funny, everyone should totally be like you."

"Right?"

"Anyway, you should go rest, then, if you're sleepy."

"But I wanna keep talking to you." You could almost hear the pout in his voice. "Don't end call yet, please?"

"Heizou..."

"Come on, I said please."

"Fine." You sigh.

"See? You really are into me."

A notification from Kokomi popped up on your phone. It was an attachment of Yanfei chugging down a bottle of Bourbon Whiskey. 'Need help, girly's wasted af💀' It seems as though your small moment with Heizou was short-lived. "Zou, I'm ending the call now."

"Wait- no! I'm joking!" He snickered.

"No, seriously, Kokomi just texted me saying Yanfei is wasted. I'll-"

"Not yet... Don't disconnect."

You contemplated. But oh, how your heart soared, its constant yearning felt satisfied when you heard the hint of despair in his voice, as if he would lose all sense of direction if you ended the call.

"You're very persuasive."

"I'm aware." His tone was dripping of amusement. "And you're just very easily swayed."

"I'm being considerate!" You huff. "I won't end the call."

"Really? I'm glad. Take care in the meanwhile, yeah? I'll be waiting, idiot."
