Took me until about halfway through college before I realized “study” means “play with the material in a variety of ways until you understand it” and not just “read the assigned chapters and do the homework” and I think that probably should have been discussed at some point prior to that.

so I've been using an app called finch to help with my productivity and it actually works really, really well?? it lets you raise this cute little virtual pet while checking off your goals throughout the day, and allows you to adjust your goals depending on what you want to get done or what you're capable of doing each day. it has these really fun incentives, and it's actually got me doing everything I need to do for the past three days. I hate making lists, so it's been great to have them refresh; it's really helpful for my executive issues. I've actually been cleaning my room in addition to doing my work, as well as gardening and spending time on my hobbies. usually I kinda hate self-care/wellness apps and stuff like that, but idk. this one can stay

instead of focusing on getting shit done, focus on studying for at least 10 (20/30 whichever sounds easy to you) minutes a day. not even like the 5 minute rule, not to get started, but literally only 10 minutes a day. you won't get everything done this way, but you will do at least some part of it by the time it's due tomorrow. you're probably still gonna have to work your ass off on the last day, but it's gonna be a few hours, not the whole night

I find it so discouraging to focus on the task, it feels like it's gonna take so much time and it stops me from even starting, so when it's due tomorrow I literally have to start from zero and do the whole thing, when I stop focusing on the end goal of completing it, it looks... like it's a thing I can actually do, yk. and things actually start getting done somehow

again, it's not to get started, not to trick your brain into starting, it's to do at least something

fidaa is a 29 year old woman from gaza with two very young children, muhammed and sila, one of whom was born during the war. her home was destroyed and she’s been displaced many times, and is currently separated from the rest of her family- her husband, her many siblings, and her parents. i can only imagine how nerve-wracking this is.

she’s doing her best to take care of her children by herself, despite facing hunger, thirst, widespread disease, and the threat of death. the other day, there was intense bombing near her and another family close to her was killed. life in gaza right now is hell and she told me they feel like they are just waiting for their turn to die.

fidaa and i talk often, and i feel lucky to know her. she’s an incredibly strong person, she travels long distances to find limited supplies for her kids and helps her siblings raise money even though shes separated from them.

but she needs help. the situation in gaza is so bad right now, the idf is preventing aid from entering and the food, water, and medicine available are extremely expensive. please share and donate to help her and her children survive and eventually leave gaza

sometimes I remember how on the last day of my high school latin class our teacher had us gather around his laptop to show us latin memes on tumblr and my best friend and I just gaped at each other in abject horror. we couldn’t figure out if our teacher was just showing us memes on a Fun Website He Had Found or if he was a tumblr user for real. but he knew how to navigate it. years have passed but it haunts me. he could still be out here
