Deep Cryogenic Rest

Damage Report:

We here at sharksharkshark decided to switch our console release focus and have upgraded to the latest Unity build. There were too many fixes to ignore and CORP thought it would be best to put our efforts into a PC release. Our new shipment of giant GBOT units had to cross through an ion radiation nebula, forcing them to put all organic life into a state of suspended animation for 7 EARTH months. They have successfully crossed the nebula and we are back online.

Systems Check: 

Welcome to Battle Royale. Note the new and improved charge DASH. Feel amazed by our larger GBOT units. Although they are bigger, GBOT are also moving faster in this new environment. And for CHIMPS? … Uh oh. CORP… what happened to CHIMPS?

Sub-spatial Trans-kinetic Analysis

What is coming up? Well, after CHIMPS outsmarted TRAPS they apparently gained an appetite for GEMS. Look out for CHIMPS in TREES. CORP also has an itch to release something soon. Thanks for sticking with us.

*BREAKING NEWS*

C.O.R.P. Takeover

We have been working on the C.H.I.M.P.S. tech for over 2 years now and thought it was a good time to contact some big wigs. 

Sooo… we sent a message into space. 

Not long after we were contacted by an intergalactic robot corporation.

C.O.R.P. (Corporation of Robotic Planets) 

sharksharkshark will continue to develop CHIMPS, but the technology has been relinquished to CORP for it’s immediate intergalactic use.

First, CORP requires CHIMPS technology to leave the testing world, EARTH, and explore CORP owned planets. These new planets contain lucrative planetary information for CHIMPS to gather.

Second, CORP requires new upgrades to the CHIMPS technology. Upgrade details will be listed as they are developed.

S.H.O.T. (Shooting Hook of Travel) 

CORP requires SHOT to handle the landscapes of CORP owned planets. SHOT length has been increased. SHOT weight has decreased allowing GBOT units to turn in eight directions.

P.O.R.T.A.L. (Planetary Orbital Retrieval Teleportation Arrival Light)

CORP owned planets are too far to travel using conventional space travel systems. CORP requires GBOT units to be deployed via PORTAL technology. CORP requires the return of GBOT units after a complete CHIMPS upload. Operators who misplace their GBOT unit will be required to transmit additional CHIMPS data.

T.R.E.E.S. (These Really Are Trees)

SHOT seems to respond well to wood logs and trees on this CORP owned planet. The trees seem weaker than the ones back on EARTH, and with a few hits the tree breaks apart. Legend has it that these trees might contain GEMS in them…..

S.O.U.N.D.S. (Best Fwends)

CORP requires us to mention our sounds and music are by Best Fwends. They’re really great, you should check them out here!

With these new CORP requirements, we will able to get a KICKSTART on CHIMPS and GREENLIGHT its progress in the near future, so stay apprised.

C.H.I.M.P.S. | Currently Hiding in a Box

We at sharksharkshark are a bit busy sneaking around in a box trying not to be detected. Nolen is hard at work on our UI system for a new game mode we are trying out. Aaron is sketching out new world ideas and random FX. And we’re all trying to make sure we don’t spend too much time in a dang box!

The Process | Outsider Eyes

PLAYING WITH FRIENDS We recently had a few of our friends over to sharksharkshark HQ for some playtesting of C.H.I.M.P.S. (see a brief snippet above). We were in a great spot to get some new insight on the latest build. There were a lot of new little tweaks we had added to the core gameplay, and outsider perspective was most appreciated. After firing up the dev kit, we put the controllers in their hands and threw them into the world of C.H.I.M.P.S. It was a sight to see. These were four people who had never played our game and they seemed to grasp it rather quickly, and have fun! Even the non-gamer of their group was persistent in playing even though they had a difficult time competing at first.

INSTANT FEEDBACK During and after playtesting, we talked with everyone about the game. Trying to narrow down core gameplay and refine the feeling of a game is a very difficult task. It’s this nebulous quality that you don’t really know you have until you try something out. One of our original prototypes didn’t have the dash mechanic. It’s now a key component that helps you navigate the terrain as well as dodge incoming attacks. It makes the game feel right. Having a crop of new players experience the game helps us see things like that and gives us the impetus to try out these new ideas. They’re not all winners, but when you get one that works, it will feel right. And you’ll know it.

NEW IDEAS The playtest was an overall success. People were able to pick up the game, understand the basic goals, and accomplish them. We also came away with a slew of new ideas that we could talk about and debate the merits of. In fact, we’ve already implemented one of the notes on fluidity and we’re currently revamping the core scoring and base system for something a little more nuanced. While there’s a good chance we would have hit on these things at one point or another, the fact that someone’s feedback could help spur us in the right direction that much quicker, makes playtesting throughout the development process invaluable. The sooner you can get the game you’re trying to make in peoples hands, the better. At the very least, we know we’re making something fun that people have enjoyed even with it being unfinished. We’ve gotta be doing something right if that’s the case. It’s just a matter of massaging and refining until we have the game we’re envisioning.
