My past is a ragged old box in the closet
Yet it never collects dust
I come back and open it everyday as if it was so important
I get lost in what has been done till my mind starts to rust
And I just can't seem to throw it away
I want to, but I just can't
That box haunts me everyday
It sucks me in, hypnotizes me till I'm trapped
It feeds me my biggest mistakes on a silver plate
It whispers in my ear with the harshest words ever said
Replays every bad memory till my body becomes lightweight
And every wrong thing I've said gets tattooed on my forehead
My ragged old me and her past
Tucked in the closet of her room, covered in make-believe stars
I don't know when, maybe today or tomorrow will be the last
That I can be free of this box

My hometown's filled with spontaneous chameleons
Dressed up in suits and dresses
Trust me when I say they're dangerous
With their whispering voices
They talk about everything except nothing
I dread each time I see them
After eating up all the gossip they love to bring
They'll still say amen

You'll see me in the velvet curtains
You'll hear my fury in the silence
See my scars in the small cracks on the road
And my lucky smile in the helpless hope
The creeks of bamboo,
They whisper my name, don't you hear them too?
So go ahead and cozy in the mufflement of your own lies
One day the world will know the monster in disguise

Orange streetlight
You've got a pocketful of promises you never kept
I've got a weak heart and a gullible mind
And God's given me a million reasons to forgive you
But I never had the mind to forget
So I'll just wish under an orange streetlight
Hope you'll change your ways till it becomes true

The same sky
I met you under a stormy deep ocean sky
Tears in my eyes and wind blowing through my hair
You offered me your shoulder and listed reasons as to why we shouldn't die
Cause life was just too hard to bear
Darling, this night's getting colder
I'm under the same sky just without your shoulder
