T H E L O V E R S – romantic partner. you wanted them first. not the emperor. if it hadn’t been for your parent’s meddling, maybe you would have been together sooner. all that can be said for sure, is that as soon as those ties were cut, you made your desires clear. yeah, they might have been in another relationship at the time — but this was true love! it wasn’t out of malice. neither of you had meant to hurt the empress. you just simply had to pick up where you left off.

T H E C H A R I O T – tutor. they didn’t really want to waste their time on you, and you both knew that. your parents paid a decent price, and they got to put it on resumes and applications. it wasn’t anything groundbreaking. all you needed was to pass. they took it way more seriously than you did, always wanting some amazing success story. you were always set up to disappoint them. not that you ever really tried to change that.

V I I I . S T R E N G T H – friend of a friend. they were part of the deal when you were dating the emperor. it’s not like you minded, they were always sweet. so sweet that your relationship coming to an end wasn’t enough for you to cut ties. maybe it was just because you got out unscathed. unlike the emperor. their best friend. your hang outs were kept secret, saved under a fake name in their phone — they couldn’t risk the heart you broke finding out they would still give you the time of day.

T H E H E R M I T – bully. you're both as bad as each other. they don't fall for the charming routine you put on for everyone else, and you would only roll your eyes at their way too independent act. whenever you're forced into each other's proximity, you're both spitting venom back and forth. they'd be louder about their stance on your disappearance, if they weren't so worried it would shift the focus from the hanged man. or maybe, it's not as celebratory as they had once thought. silence holds the truth.

J U S T I C E – close friend... right?. here's the kicker... they didn't know you at all. at least, not more than the average person did. you lived down the road from them, that was true. another truth… you couldn’t pick them out of a line up. didn’t really know their name. maybe you were partners for a science project once? it’s not like you really did any of the work on those. justice has built such a beautiful bond between the two of you, maybe you would’ve been a better person had it been true.

T H E H A N G E D M A N – suspicion. it wasn’t an everyday occurrence that you spoke to them, but it wasn’t exactly rare either. they would shrug you off most times. to be fair, you did talk about random crap most the time. one time sticks out to them now that you’re gone. how would you disappear? you framed the conversation all about them being the one to go. they didn’t really have anyone to notice it. however, they can’t tell if it was a mastermind move or sick irony. as the heat comes down on them, how stupid is it that their only defence isn’t another suspect, but rather belief you aren’t really dead?

T E M P E R A N C E – rival. they never sought you out. all of your interactions would happen purely by coincidence — or because you were going for the same things. sports team try outs, school plays, anything… everything. temperance needed them like air, you were there to have fun. you couldn’t help it that you would always get the spot they were gunning for. one time, you tried to offer some advise. don’t care so much about it! you thought you were sharing your secret to success, but temperance’s cold shoulder only got frostier from that point.

T H E D E V I L – bad influence. you liked the way you could cut loose. not that you would admit that. they were the degenerate, not you. you would run amuck and have fun until the morning would come. the devil would be tossed to the side, wished away just like the hangover that always followed the benders. any trouble would always land on them, you got to keep your hands clean. they'd argue and though they said they’d hold a grudge, you would always seep in through the cracks of their tough exterior. the last time would be forgiven and you'd go out. just for the cycle to start again.

T H E T O W E R – former best friends. you were inseparable since the day you met. they were precious and you kept them like a plush toy on your bed. for years, that was enough. you dragged them to parties they didn’t want to go to, double dates they didn’t care about because you liked someone. they went along with it because they loved you. even now, they have never stopped loving you. you don’t believe that considering you fight you had. you’ve always been dramatic, but never quite like the reaction you had to them asking for a little freedom. you loved them too… perhaps a little too much.
