August
August is also Black Business Month, Black August , and Black Philanthropy Month
A short reference on Black August: “It is a time of reverence to honor political prisoners, freedom fighters, and martyrs of the Black freedom struggle. This month, we celebrate all the political prisoners who have helped us understand that prison is political and that our collective freedom depends on abolishing the state’s capacity, through incarceration, policing, and surveillance, to disrupt communities and diminish principled struggle against the unjust status quo.”

August
What is August the month for? Well, a lot of worthless things actually. But it is National Breastfeeding Month. Well breastfeeding is seen as very important and a much healthier alternative than bottle-feeding, with statistics being handed out like if every mother breastfed their child then 800,000 child deaths could be prevented, and breastfeeding can reduce child obesity rates by 25%, there is a little told risk about breastfeeding that especially effects poc and poor parents.
PFAs are toxic forever chemicals that stay in your bloodstream, are passed down through egg and sperm cells, passed to a fetus through the placenta, and through breastmilk. Unfortunately, many insurances and even state governments will refuse to pay for testing to determine just how high the levels of PFAs are in your breastmilk. PFAs cause many birth defects, cancers, and life-long disorders. They can even result in still-birth or early child death.
Tragically, due to the horrors of systemic racism, people of color are exposed at much higher rates to PFAs due to being segregated into industrial areas for housing, through their water, through their air, through the goods they are allowed to buy, and the food they are allowed eat.
Because of this, an already battered population fighting cancer, asthma, and diabetes gives birth to an even sicker generation of children as PFAs continue to build up. They’re mistreated and abused their whole lives by the medical system they’re supposed to trust.
Why does no one know about this? Well, do you think the government would really care if their racially diverse population died off from cancer? No. They wouldn’t. We have to educate each other to save the lives they don’t care about. Spread the word.

Friends are my family. My love for them is just as valid as any other type of love.
We’re not “just friends,” we’re friends.
Stop defining friendship as less than romance. Stop defining romance as better than friendship.
Friendship is enough, friendship is beautiful and fulfilling and good. Friendship isn’t less than. No type of relationship is better than another.

Thanks to increased limitations on logging, Indonesia has accomplished a four year decline in deforestation. This is a pretty big deal for a country that holds around 1/3rd of the world’s tropical rainforests.
Indonesia also leads the world in the production of palm oil, but a moratorium placed on new palm oil plantation permits has recently become permanent.
In addition to more stringent enforcement of environmental laws, the Indonesian government has also turned over 30 million acres to governance by Indigenous peoples.
Indonesia contains some amazing and unique biodiversity and these steps go a long way towards preserving it for future generations.
“This [drop in deforestation] shows that various efforts done by the Ministry Environment and Forestry lately have produced significant results. Their impact on reducing deforestation is tremendous.” -Ruandha Agung Suhardiman
Thanks to @transcendragon for the submission!

Many relationships would be a lot healthier if we romanticized honest, open and direct communication instead of idealizing the idea of a partner who's intuitively in tune with your every need. You don't need someone who can read your mind, you just need someone who's willing to listen when you speak.

It happens all the time at hotels: The receptionist answers the phone. The caller asks to speak to someone. The receptionist puts the call through to their room.
If the person in the hotel room is a domestic violence victim, the receptionist could be putting her life in danger.
Most domestic violence shelters try to keep a low profile. There is no identifying sign on the door, no address that is easy to Google. Some send ride shares to drop off victims a few blocks away. All of this is done to protect the people who stay there: If the shelter’s location gets out, abusers might come knocking on the door.
Shelters had to shift gears in the pandemic, when the coronavirus made it dangerous to house every victim and their family under the same roof. To accommodate health concerns and social distancing requirements, many domestic violence shelters began sending more victims to hotels, motels and other short-term rentals. In Hampton, Va., Transitions Family Violence Services spent $75,000 on additional hotel rooms during the pandemic, said executive director Sanu Dieng — approximately double what it spent the year before.
At hotels, survivors may be less safe than they are in shelter, said Ruth Glenn, chief executive and president of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. When guests check in, hotel staff often insist on seeing their identification and recording their full name. Because hotel staff members are not trained advocates, she said, they probably won’t be on high alert if an abuser calls or walks through the door.
A new, anonymized booking platform could help solve the problem. Launching officially in mid-August, Safe Stays by ReloShare is designed for organizations that work with domestic violence victims that need to house victims off-site. The platform has partnered with several prominent hotel chains that will accept an alias when a survivor checks in, then bill the domestic violence shelter for all expenses incurred at the end of each month. Shelter advocates can use ReloShare like a travel website, searching for hotels wherever is most convenient for the victim and book them as needed.

everyone should get the vaccine once it is made available to them unless they are deadly allergic to it, or are immuno-compromised/immuno-suppressed (cancer patients are immuno-compromised both due to the disease and the medications they have to take)
Tumblr media
They literally work every day with very ill cancer-stricken kids who can't get the vaccine.
This makes 100% sense.

POST PLUS IS COMING, WHETHER YOU WANT IT OR NOT!
Despite the fancy survey, changes to the UI and TOS reveal we’re getting the service in the future whether we want it or not. Obviously, Post+ is a terrible idea that is trying to bank revenue on user content. Unlike patreon or onlyfans, tumblr’s primary focus is on FAN content. The legality of this is NOT in the users favor and as the new tumblr TOS states, said users will be entirely liable for whatever legal matters arise.
SO WHAT ARE WE DOING?
Besides filling out the survey, it’s time to show tumblr we mean business and show our displeasure by hitting them where it hurts.
Ad revenue.
We’re proposing a 24 hour log off as phase one of this protest.
WHEN IS THE PROTEST?
August 6th 2021
12 am Eastern Time (US)
4am UTC
5am BST/London
6am Central Europe Time
7am Moscow Standard Time
9:30 Indian Standard Time
12 noon Hong Kong Time/Australian Western
1:00 pm Japan Standard Time
1:30 pm Australian Cental time
2:00 pm Australian Eastern Time
August 5th 2021
11pm Central Time (US)
10pm Mountain Time (US)
9pm Pacific Time (US)
THE END TIME IS 24 HOURS FROM START TIME!!!
So no posting, no queues, no likes, and no reblogs!
WHAT IF I CAN’T/WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
Like this post and share it AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE. Use the hashtags #tumblrlogoff2021 or #postplusprotest on ANY and ALL social media.
WILL THIS WORK?
Maybe, maybe not. It’s an attempt at doing SOMETHING.
BECAUSE I’M A TIRED IDIOT, USE THIS TO DOUBLE CHECK YOUR TIME ZONE!!!!
