I was just gonna do the adult timeline zelda but im so enchanted by the idea of these two versions of the same character. People always talk about how link would be changed but never zelda.

ATLA (zukka….) au where everything is mostly the same except that the phrase “friend of the Avatar” is a euphemism for being gay, a la the phrase friend of Dorothy

(the phrase started towards the start of the 100 year war because in this universe Avatar Roku was some flavor of gay, then Sozin canonically banned gay marriage after their situationship went downhill. so people had to be more subtle about communicating their identities, something something something, the phrase became semi-commonplace throughout the fire nation and later the earth kingdom. maybe it started even earlier because of bi queen kyoshi. who knows!)

miscommunication and self-discovery ensues throughout the events of ATLA:

early on into his banishment and search for the avatar, Zuko runs into someone who casually mentions that they’re a “friend of the Avatar” and he’s immediately like “THE AVATAR IS ALIVE? WHERE ARE THEY. TELL ME”

…he learns a new phrase that day! perhaps he didn’t even know gay people existed until that awkward encounter (bc sheltered fire nation royal.) maybe he does some self reflection at this point, or perhaps he puts off his sexuality crisis in favor of his avatar hunting mission. who’s to say?

(the next time he hears someone say they’re “a friend of the avatar” he asks if they’re gay or if they actually know the avatar. you know, just in case they actually do.

….and the next time after that, too.

but after that he catches on pretty quickly that, no, it’s REALLY just a turn of phrase, and he does not repeat the mistake again.)

+ early into the series events sokka runs into some confusion when he mentions to a stranger that he’s a friend of the avatar while aang isn’t around—

sokka: hey so uhh i’m actually a friend of the avatar… think i can get a discount for that??

kindly ally shopkeeper: oh! i love that for you!! you know, i have a cousin who’s gay, real swell guy. anyways about the discount—

book one sokka, canonically sexist and with perhaps a fragile masculinity: what wait a sec, IM NOT GAY??????

shopkeeper: oh that���s okay, you don’t have to explain yourself or put a label on it to me (:

(sokka does in fact get a discount.)

he walks back to katara who was waiting for him and overheard the whole conversation, and she says “you know, sokka, it’s fine if you like boys.” sokka responds as you’d expect he would at this time.

(some amount of time later, sokka comes up to katara and aang very nervously and says “hey guys. i think i might. um. be a friend of the Avatar.”

and aang, confused but enthusiastic, goes “aww buddy, we’re already friends!!!!”)

at some point they’re fighting Zuko and during a back-and-forth exchange, Sokka proclaims “i won’t let you hurt him, the Avatar is my friend!” or something to that effect

Zuko, who has learned from his past mistakes in misconstruing this phrase, says “love is love. but your sexuality will not stop me from capturing the Avatar”

I’ve been reading your posts about Beast-Yeast 8 and, uh.

Isn’t it interesting that the Light of Truth only speaks up exactly ONCE during this entire episode and when it does, it’s talking to Shadow Milk Cookie?

anon you have just brought this to my attention and the answer is YES 100%!!!

here's the entire exchange screenshotted, and analysed for reference!

the exchange happens DIRECTLY after the whole thing where shadow milk and pure vanilla become "one and the same" — each with their own other-realms to control.

now, the light of truth comes in with a completely black background. usually when we see it, it's pure vanilla in the abyss of his soul, surrounded by blue glowing eyes and twisting and turning in the darkness. shadow milk's other-realm, really.

and its line: "is it truly YOUR will?" can imply very many things.

we all know the light of truth is shadow milk cookie. that's why when we saw this exchange, we stopped, paused — immediately knew this wasn't the REAL light. we've got an imposter on our hands, and it seems to know something about Shadow Milk's past that we don't.

after the exchange, he is SHOCKED. but not just shocked — is that ... uncertainty? shadow milk, "fount of knowledge," master of all his plans, always one step ahead, not knowing something.

or maybe he does know something. maybe he knows who this imposter light of truth is. he SEEMS to recognise them, thus is his reaction. if shadow milk was faced with a light of truth suddenly talking to him, one that is not him, and he didn't know who it was, don't you think his reaction would be something different? more confused? more in denial? he would suspect something like it being pure vanilla reaching out to him, trying to scare him — and I'm not saying this isn't pure vanilla, but don't you think he would have reacted more ... "oh, I know what you're doing, stop trying to get to me, you're not fooling anybody" and not like THIS??

he MUST know who exactly this is. yes, maybe this is pure vanilla. propaganda for this theory being that he now has control over his OWN other-realm, and thus would be able to make a connection like this. maybe this is shadow milk cookie himself, or at least the hidden part of him (which would explain the "is this YOUR will" part. maybe this is the part of him that wanted to find out everything there was to know, to quote the crk 4th website. but then something happened, and deceit took over, and that part of him was hidden away.)

it could be ANYONE. for all we know, this could be one of the witches. this could be elder faerie. this could be someone that knows something about shadow milk, or someone who was involved in his past. we don't know.

but one thing I'd like to point out: BEFORE this exchange, the two realms were split: one side clearly vanilla's and the other being shadow milk's. but when he wakes up ... it's all pure vanilla. AND:

maybe it's just me, but he seems GENUINELY shocked here. genuinely afraid. mad? confused. DESPERATE.

and, he cannot control his other-realm anymore. it's vanished. more propaganda for pure vanilla somehow being involved in that light of truth showing up. he threw shadow milk into an abyss, saw his opportunity, and took it.

and THAT is truly one of the best points in this entire episode of beast-yeast.

thinking abt darkners names not getting any response in the vessel creation... only lightners....... thinking about ralsei following everything you tell him to regardless of if it aligns with what he wants......... thinking about how berdly, a lightner, is the ultimate point of no return for the snowgrave route, how you can still leave it no matter how many darkners you kill as long as you don't kill him......thinking about the secret bosses and what happens to someone in a society where their worth happiness and livelihood hinges all on whether or not they are useful.........

As far as tiny proof they like to argue instead of the big stuff to debunk, like the lip looks, sure, maybe an accident, but what I can't get over is this:

That is such a specific character choice. An eyes-open kiss. As an actor, even, you have to actively choose to override your instinct to close your eyes. A lip look is one thing - I look at people's lips to read them to help with audio processing difficulties. Sometimes people are just examining your facial expression. There are lots of passive, alternate reasons to do lots of things.

But Finn Wolfhard had to override his eyes' instinct to close in order to do this. That is a very specific, highly motivated choice that needs strong justification. It is either directed specifically or he knows this about Mike strongly enough to not fear an exchange of 'hey, why the fuck are you doing that?' 'he's gay to me' 'what? don't do things like that'

It is Finn Wolfhard's place to interpret, not headcanon characters. So either he made this choice based off of the confirmed knowledge that Mike's feelings inform it or he was specifically asked to do it.

Either way, keeping your eyes open in a kiss is in no way a passive thing to do. And in no way a hesitant, throw away, or experimental acting choice in a scene. It has to be specific, justified, and highly confident to even try in the first place.

But he did this every take. Maybe even instinctively closed his eyes one take and they had to call cut and shoot it again.
