okay skk thoughts returning thinking again how crazy it is that their very first fight goes the way it does. dazai is someone who has to value human strength because of his ability: he reverts people to simple humanity with no powered additions to amplify them. he doesnt make them weak he just takes away the unnatural benefit of their skills, leaving him to restrain them with equal unamplified strength. because of this, because he has to value it, he expects to be capable of overpowering anyone who is strong by virtue of their ability because why would someone like that value their unsupplemented prowess? why would chuuya, with gravity at his fingertips, give a fuck about physical strength without bending weight to his will? by all logic he wouldnt, and dazai proceeds in that fight believing chuuya wouldnt. but chuuya does, of course he does. of course chuuya holds in high esteem strength that is purely his, that doesnt come from some demonic ability that was attached to him. and in that, in easily kicking dazai off of him because he is stronger than dazai even without his ability, he does two things. he surprises dazai, in proving him wrong, and he demonstrates a bizarrely distant affection for humanity that dazai himself had barely begun to entertain at this point. dazai in fifteen is still dismissive of humanity, almost fyodor like in his conviction in their small predictable stupidity. but here is chuuya, unpredictable and affectionate enough of a humanity he feels outside of to replicate its power in pure muscled force.

Dahl is a very loving a devoted partner. She's dated around and had a couple of girlfriends in her life, but you're the first one she's felt a real connection with.

She has a tabby cat named Sweetie and a big mutt (sorta like a Newfoundland in terms of size) named Mocha. The critters are very sweet and warm up to you quickly; Mocha is a lazy cuddlebug and Sweetie's a little queen who surveys her domain from her cat tree.

In the beginning of your relationship, you're kept in her bedroom, though the chain around your ankle is long enough enough to reach the mini fridge, game consoles, books, and attached bathroom by yourself.

Dahl takes at least a week off of work when she takes you home, giving you time to acclimate to her and understand her better.

I imagine her around 15-20 years older than her darling.

Dahl understands why you're scared of her, but she can get a little impatient. She's already proven she can protect you, she's comfortable enough to provide for you, it shouldn't take you too long to accept her.

Dahl won't stop you from working, though she encourages you to pursue whatever career path of volunteering you want.

She enjoys using her strength to carry you around. Early on after she brings you home, she holds you in her lap at mealtimes and while relaxing, seeing it as a nice way to bond.

little run down: i want to thank the wonderful @hazyhae for tagging me to do this—it looked super fun, and i think it’s so cute to reflect on your works. i will say, though, my layout won’t be anywhere near as cute as theirs because i’m lazy and completely lacking any once of artistic talent. so we’re stuck with comic sans.

Not well thought out thoughts on Two-Bit and Johnny's dynamic

(this is based off the book/movie not the musical)

Okay so Two-Bit Mathews is the 18-year-old-kid who's always got something to add, he's charismatic and he knows it. Always chiming in and generally he's just a very present guy. Johnny Cade is the 16-year-old-kid who can't bring himself to speak. Of course he has things to say but not in the same way. While Two-Bit will spurt out whatever the hell comes to his mind Johnny is thoughtful, he doesn't talk much and when he does more than a few sentences or to someone he doesn't know, it's often something he deems very important. Johnny's been made to fear being noticed, Two-Bit's charisma keeps him going, so they both react to social situations very differently. I think Two-Bit looks up to Johnny in a way. Johnny's been through so much and Two-Bit finds that admirable. Johnny is a little daunted by Two-Bit because to be honest he might be too confident. Two-Bit talks to everyone but sometimes he takes things kind of far (like early in the movie's drive-in scene where he pulled up a girls skirt) But Johnny sorta looks up to Two-Bit too. The way he can just take up space in a conversation without fear and everyone enjoys him being there. Though there are some things that he sort of dislikes about him. Like Two-Bit is a lazy guy, doesn't help his mom out much if at all. Johnny thinks if his family cared about him like that he'd do everything he could to make things easier for them, so when Two-Bit outright said things about not helping his mom with chores, it pisses Johnny off a little bit.

All in all because of their very different communication styles they don't really talk much and when they do it's almost always initiated by Two-Bit, but Two would do anything for that kid and Johnny feels the same.

Welp EarthSpark is officially done in Japan via the latest Figure King magazine.

Sorta rubs the Nucleon in the Energon wound that the news of cancellation comes in a magazine celebrating 40 years of Transformers, with a cover drawn by the Kiss Players guy no less, huh?

It’s also looking more apparent EarthSpark is finito in the States too. And some staff of the show are looking to blame fans for being the b-word and the p-word. Look fella, those words lost meaning just as much as “woke” did, just take your lumps like the rest of us and admit your show didn’t work because people simply had no interest in it. Also just terrible, TERRIBLE writing and pacing. I can forgive Rise of the TMNT’s faults due to Nick not knowing what to do with it and giving the staff unhelpful feedback that kept changing it (the Netflix movie finale was a much better look at what the show was trying to be and could’ve been, but alas), but EarthSpark I have no such compunction.

Hasbro was allegedly pretty hands off and was fine with what they were doing (at least at first) so the blame can only land on the writers who clearly misunderstood what they had. I detest modern shows that have uneven pacing, tone and characterization. It’s why I don’t look fondly on Adventure Time the moment it stopped being a goofy kids show and started being some college art student’s angsty wet dream.

Clearly something changed for EarthSpark internally, and I can’t help but think Hasbro and Paramount looked at the abysmal launch of the first batch of episodes and told the staff to drastically change the story for S2. That the trailer is a more traditional Autobots vs Decepticon conflict with them hunting for Emberstone pieces ala Transformers Animated and most importantly having evil Decepticon Terrans (something fans had stated as happening in some form from the start), shows they wanted to make this into a better boy brand thing again.

The first season overcompensates by focusing too heavily on the female cast, most of them bordering on obnoxious, while making most of the male characters into morons, again Robbie dying for contrived reasons but the Maltos instead choose to love up Mo while Robbie lays there clinging to whatever life force he has left at that moment.

Instead Robbie seems to be the primary focus, with a b-plot about him having a crush on someone. I’m guessing this is where the rumors saying Hashtag comes out as gay comes from as I suspect Hashtag remarks on Robbie’s female crush being adorable and tries to be his wingman (with probably the same results when she tried helping Jawbreaker).

I feel like the intention may have been to have Mo be the focus of S1 and Robbie for S2, but it doesn’t fully come off that way as the focus is too rambling on top of trying to focus on the Terrans and Bumblebee in an RiD15 style role again.

Also what the slag is this?

If there’s one thing I hate more it’s lazy photoshopping.

Not only do they just swap Bee and Prime’s renders around, they just crudely put the kids heads on these altered bodies from their preexisting stock art… Like no Quintessons or Terracons or nothing. Nothing to make you more legitimately excited for something new. Just the same Autobots and the kids in ReBoot Guardian Code suits, ick. It’s a bit of a downgrade compared to the Prime Apex Armor suits the toys use.

Despite the cancellation, the Japanese magazine refers to a “Slash Malt”(o). Presumably this might be a Terran version of the Dinobot Slash, whose only proper media presence has been a minor cameo in Japanese manga as the kid sister of the Dinobots and a supporting role in Rescue Bots Academy.

Frankly becoming a Terran might be the best thing for Slash, and it’s something I’m surprised toy wise wasn’t attempted anyway with characters like Lightbright, Lickity Split, Rubble, Gauge, Nightscream, and others.

So once again, what comes next? We don’t know still as of typing. Skybound is still knocking it out of the park with its Energon Universe, with the Joe portion moving on to Destro and Scarlett after having wrapped up Cobra Commander’s miniseries. Of note on Destro is the possibility MASK might be getting another go again, as what appears to be Miles Mayhem, the leader of the villainous VENOM faction, makes an appearance. The MASK and VENOM teams tend to be depicted as off shoots of Joe and Cobra in modern material, and with the pitch of the EU mentioning Energon being able to power machines, the transforming vehicles might be among the first specially designed vehicles developed to combat the Decepticons… Especially since Destro took interest in the idea of a transforming jet when he learned of Starscream.

The next cartoon is being worked on now, but we don’t know yet what it is. The easiest assumption is it’s a spin off of TFONE like how Mutant Mayhem has Tales of the TMNT, but it may be something else altogether. Barring anything TFONE does, EarthSpark was the last hold out of IDW’s post war ideas, and with Autobot Megatron mark II being viewed like this:

I think Autobot Megatron is largely done as a concept and with how merciless Skybound Megs is shown to be (though interestingly he did spare some Cobra-La guys when they told him what he wanted to know after stepping on one), I think we’re gonna be back to a traditional Megatron.

People are still not really feeling TFONE via recent upload on a TF fan convention YouTube channel, calling it terrible and cringey, so at this point I’m honestly just writing it off now (even though I’ll personally like it fine like the new Garfield Movie).

I stand by a new TF anime with a fun Mini-Con like gimmick built in the story is the way to go, because this incessant need to reject its toyetic roots is aggravating. At this stage I say let Skybound do the comics, and let Japan handle the cartoon, because clearly most people working now can’t write a decent TF cartoon without getting out of their sanctimonious way.

It’s time to Transform and Rise Up from this nonsense, and hopefully One helps with that more, but atm it’s all on Skybound until the next cartoon is ready. No pressure.

Okay so kiawren lore! I think I've said it before somewhere but Im lazy to find it so I'll just say everything again

Idk if you've played the games (but anyway it's not important for you to know) but my s/i Wren doesn't follow the MC's story in the games. He's an aspiring conservationist who goes to alola on a study/research/outreach conservation programme for a few months. Becuz alola's inspiration is Hawaii irl and although I wouldn't go as a tourist irl it's nice to dream that I could go somewhere so uniquely biodiverse and help out in conservation which is also literally my ambition so when I selfship in that role it makes me happy...

Wren meets kiawe when they visit Wela volcano park one day to find a nice spot to view the sunset. Honestly the meeting lore is not fixed lol. Kiawe does his trial captain duties at the top of the volcano and he was done with his duties for the day and going to head down the volcano for his canon night job at the supermarket when he sees wren and is wondering who is up here when the sky is getting so dark plus some graveler (a pokemon) specifically happened to block some of the paths that day lol idk. So becuz he felt he has a duty to look after the people and pokemon he wanted to accompany wren down cuz the paths are rocky. And then wren is like but I want to see the sunset he's like ok fine I know the best places to see it follow me. Okay so that was the first meeting

Subsequently wren just meets Kiawe at the volcano increasingly often, from like twice a week to 5 times a week to every day. Also wren's conservation thing is mainly on akala island (out of the 4 total islands in alola) which is also where Kiawe is from, and one of their research tasks was on the volcano so they met and talked and usually kiawe isn't super fond of foreigners he thought wren was some tourist but finding out he's doing some conservation thing he found it nice.

Yeah so they just got to know each other more and wren develops a crush first. For what draws me into him...

He studies traditional dances from his culture and hopes to study abroad and fulfil this passion of his, which is why he has that night shift at the supermarket but he also got laid off from it in canon 😭 And when you find out about it he says "it seems like nothing ever goes right..." and asks to battle you and says this after like ARRRRGHHHH

Like I just want to be able to encourage him that he cna achieve his dreams becuz he's one of the most hardworking and passionate people ever like he deserves everything

Also this, it's directly implying Kiawe is a romanticist becuz you get this Reverent battle style after battling him

And like it's so heartwarming to know this guy who has like a stoic exterior has sentiments like this, I'm honestly similar in this way that we're both sorta idealists. So I would like to sit him with and talk about our ambitions together especially becuz even though my primary interest is the natural world, culture is also my second biggest interest and for him it's the other way round.

Also in another game he said that other people don't really like his intensity, but his two friends Mallow and Lana don't mind, and thanks the player for also not minding. And his dad also said he's always been quite lonely and it's nice to see the MC be friends with him like 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 kiawe's such a genuine person but not the best at social interactions but when you get to know him I think he can be so generous and caring and humble and a great person to share your dreams with and achieve them together.

Also since he's a fire type pokemon trainer I associate him with red, fire, heat and the sun cuz he's so central to my world and a huge motivation and a person I can admire so much, so when I listen to music and read poems and stuff it's fun to find themes like this and think of my love for him Yes 😁

Childrens Hospital #1: “A Hospital Isn't a Place for Lazy People/What Is Love?” (aka: "A Hospital Isn't a Place") | July 11, 2010 - 10:30PM | S01E01

We love our cartoons, don’t we folks? We HATE when live-action takes up our valuable cartoon time and replaces all of our beautiful cartoon guys. 

From the Twisted mind of Rob Corrdry comes Childrens Hospital, a web-series-come-real-series-but-just-barely that serves up wacky spoof jokes and a bit of a thumb in the eye of shows like Grey’s Anatomy, in that both are soapy medical dramas where attractive doctors fuck and suck their way through America’s healthcare system. All of the characters on the show are constantly making out, except unlike Grey’s Anatomy this is a children’s hospital so there’s kids around.

The show draws inspiration from other shows, like M*A*S*H (Michael Cera as the off-screen announcer on the hospital’s loud-speaker system is clearly a nod, replete with direct references to the show), E.R. (a later episode [possibly others] is a direct parody of their live-episode stunt) and St. Elsewhere (certain episodes of this show resemble St. Elsewhere’s famous format-breaking episodes).

I’ve mined TV from my youth/pre-birth-non-existence and will occasionally connect certain dots to bits of this show, but I’ll try to point them out when we get to those episodes. Or, I’m lying about that, and won’t have anything to show for myself. Remains to be seen. My point is, I’m pretty deficient in knowing about more recent medical dramas, so feel free to yell at me in the comments when I miss stuff. 

The show’s origin was as a web series, originally found on The WB’s website. The webseries episodes were shorter than your normal Adult Swim show, so they combined two episodes of the web series to make a single Adult Swim episode. Each one of these two segments originally had closing credits, and a different-looking title screen.

The DVD opted to include the original web series versions instead of the updated Adult Swim ones. Also, they had to add a little extra content to make time, so they added a fake commercial between the two segments as well as an outro where Rob Corddry “Thanks for Watching!”s us. This first episode features a fake ad for NTSF:SD:SUV::, which would eventually become it’s own show. Very sneaky. I think for a time there existed digital versions that followed this format EXCEPT they cut out the fake commercial in the middle for some reason. All I know is whatever versions I have on my plex server seem to include everything as-aired on Adult Swim.

I had my chance to be an early adopter to Childrens Hospital after hearing Rob Corrdry talk about the program on various podcasts. I turned my nose up at it, because watching TV on internet just seemed too scary to me back then. So the first time I actually watched was at this years’ San Diego Comic-Con, I think? They screened the first episode of season two, which followed season one after a very short break (I think it was a one week hiatus, actually). It played pretty well in a room full of people waiting for the Fables panel to start. I remember liking it, and laughing! 

But: DO I LIKE IT NOW? I guess. It’s okay. I mean, it’s another one of those joke-machine style shows, but it has that stink of “people are having A LITTLE TOO MUCH FUN making this”. You know what I mean? Like, you can tell everyone who worked on this show was smiling all day and it sorta ruins the comedy in a weird way. I’m not sure. For what it’s worth, I purchased this on DVD back when I was trying to be a completest for Adult Swim on DVD. I still technically own it, I think, but it’s stowed away in a box of other DVDs I pruned from my collection with the intention of trying to sell them. I don’t know where they are, so as such I won’t be covering things like deleted scenes or outtakes on a per-episode basis. I think those DVDs had some extras on them?

The plot of this episode is mostly focused on the two pretty girls breaking up with their boyfriends; one simply doing it in solidarity with the other. They are roommates and it becomes clear that there’s a hot girl-on-girl crush going on. Webisode one ends with the two chicks about to kiss, but it’s comically ruined by a sneeze.

I owe this DISGUSTING, SLEAZY, GIRL-ALMOST-ON-GIRL action mostly to the guiding hand of David Wain, who was involved with the show. If the man has a trademark, it’s having hot women on your show, and writing numerous scenes with them making out with various people, and then eventually, as if it’s just a foregone conclusion, having them make out with each other. I really do think he launders his sense of humor into productions where attractive people can make out like it's high school again. I think this might be why I offered the “too much fun” theory of comedy acting being on display.

David Wain strikes me as a guy who didn’t get laid when he was young so he became a creative and now he just tries to figure out the least-creepy way to surround himself with beautiful women. To be a little revealing, I’m more-or-less made of the exact same stuff as Wain. I’m not even condemning him. I might just be writing these things from a place of jealousy, honestly. He might even be my hero!!!!

Other stuff happened, but it wasn’t too significant; I think they were setting up something with Rob Huebel’s character being a former cop or something. Him and Nick “bacon and eggs” Offerman have an over-serious conversation about it, in which they invoke 9/11 as having happened “seven years ago”, a joke I had to pause to think about because it’s drilled in my head right now that I’m watching 2010 Adult Swim, but this is 2008 Webisode stuff. I thought they were about to make a joke about John Ritter dying on September 11, 2003, but alas this show wasn’t written by me and my friends. 

Another joke I feel like picking apart is one where one of the girls tells the other that she has a booger by describing it as a “Stalagmite”. SIGH… the word she was looking for was stalagTITE. The way you can remember this is: A stalagTITE hangs TIGHT to the ceiling, while a stalagMITE MIGHT one day reach the ceiling. Sorry, I was literally a tour guide for a cavern for a summer, and this is literally the only thing I remember from any of it. 

Okay, pedantic stuff about episode titles: I did a mild amount of research and found that for some reason there seems to be two sets of episode titles depending on which source you look at. These episodes (both web versions and Adult Swim versions) don't seem to be on the Library of Congress web searcher. I-tunes versions and other for-purchase digital platforms use very long titles, which seem to be two titles corresponding to each webisode. When I encounter these titles, they are separated by a comma and not a forward slash, which is the usual standard for episode titles where the show is made up of shorter segments. I alone have decided to override the comma and insert a forward slash. It just comforts me to do it that way.

So, I'm airing on the side of using the elongated per-segment titles as the "episode title of record". These titles, by the way, I could not find being used in conjunction with the actual webisodes. Weird! Like, I went and looked at the old WB website that originally housed the short webisode versions and they didn't seem to have titles there, just "Episode 1", etc.

Some tidbits I remember about this Frankenhole: I remember Dino or someone talking about how some black members of the animation staff walked off the show because they felt it was racist (all the famous black men advising Jefferson to treat women like shit) and that they last-minute added the bit where Obama and Wilt Chamberlain disapprove of the song to make it seem less bad. Tidbit #2: I liked that Jefferson's voice was inexplicably a Don Adams impression

I worked on the shooting of the Dino's Dungeon segments and he freaks everyone out at wrap when he hopped back into the coffin and said "im going to bed everyone" which got a good laugh but he proceed to shift his body so hard in there that he knocked the coffin off it's stand and shattered it into a thousand pieces. He was badly cut up after that and I never worked with him again. Hope he's doing well though.

I think he likes getting hurt so he probably had fun doing that. Did you notice a stiffy

Like maybe an Ephemera Corner or a brief shoutout to the guy who practically invented irreverence in cartoons? Am I off base here?

I do actually believe that it's almost TOO harmonious that early Adult Swim sorta feeds directly from all the early stuff that happened to be in the Turner cartoon library at the time it started (Looney Tunes, Tex Avery MGM stuff, Popeye, Hanna Barbera etc.). Even the 15-minute timeslot is hearkening back to the original one-reel format of those toons. Three cheers for Bugs Bundy and his famous cartoons!

Sorta lazy leftovers night here.

Not quite as low effort as it could have been, since I did whip up some potato cakes out of the leftover mashed potatoes from Swedish Meatloaf Night. (Fairly basic, with just some onion and pepper for flavor. I did get lazy and just use some onion powder.) Then we've just got some easy baked convenient frozen meatballs. Good excuse to eat up the little bit of meatball-type cream sauce that was still in the fridge.

Then we've just got some packaged pizza salad that Mr. C picked up on the side, not shown because I rarely want vinegary dressing running all over the other food. The stuff Lidl sells here is actually decent, with a little extra salt added.

Can't say I'd ever really considered eating mashed potato cakes with meatball gravy before, but it does work pretty well.

Then again, my family has been known to eat sausage gravy over a more neutral tasting, non-sweet local style of pancakes. Which--surprise, surprise!--pretty closely resembles a no-sugar version of "Scotch pancakes" than what you're liable to get from IHOP or whatever. They do tend toward a little thicker batter too. But, those are good enough with hillbilly gravy or to make assorted breakfast sandwiches out of that I couldn't see why a slightly savory potato cake shouldn't be at least as good with meatball sauce. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ And it was. May have to try that with other gravies at some point.

love languages: in terms of giving love, i’m an acts of service and physical affection sorta gal. i’m not great with my words, especially when it comes to love, although i do try. i honestly just love doing things for my partner to take the weight of their shoulders, like for an irl example, i’ll sneak into my boyfriend’s apartment to clean it up a bit for him while he’s at work — or if i stay the night at his i’ll wake him up with breakfast, simple things. i’m also big on physical affection, i hate pda though, but behind closed doors im all yours, kisses or cuddles or whatever ya want, your wish is my command.

➸ I'm not one hundred percent sure and how you two would meet. but if I had to guess I'd say that Saint Peter was out on break and you came up to heaven during that time and he was told to man the gates (despite his protests). He wouldn't be the kindest letting you in, most likely rudely asking for you name and rolling his eyes whenever you gave him a response.

➸ Until you had enough of it, you would snap at him telling him to just do his job and then he'd be more interested in you, messing with you and playing with you teasingly just to get a reaction. I'd imagine that you'd soon grow tired of it and just started to not speak to him and once you were let into heaven you were relieved hoping that you would never see him again.

➸ However fate had different plans for you, he bothered you constantly he wasn't even trying to constantly see you or meet up with you, but whenever he saw you he instantly found some way to annoy the shit out of you. Talking louder than usual, sometimes leaning on you and acting like it was an accident. He thought that you were interesting, more so than any of the other people in heaven and he was going to make sure that he got to know you.

➸ Sooner or later you'd ask him what his deal was with you and all he'd do was smile and simply state that you were interesting and didn't seem like the other 'goody two shoes' that managed to spring up around there. Not to mention he liked the sarcasm you would use to deal with him, he found it endearing and hilarious.

➸ Whether you liked it or not he began hanging out around you more and slowly you became friends and the more you became friends the more he would sling an arm around your shoulder or grab you and pull you places. ➸ Soon enough he began figuring out that he liked you and began making it his mission to make sure that you liked him back. He'd ask you all sorts of questions and try to figure you out, pick you apart just so that he'd be sure you were in love with him back. ➸ At first you weren't sure when it came to going out with him but he didn't stop trying. He kept going and soon enough you agreed. It wasn't that romantic of a date because Adam doesn't really know romance and you both just watched movies the entire time with him cuddling up to you

You're not great with words? Great, cause neither is he. Whenever he tries to compliment the way that you look or act, it comes off almost as either an insult, as if he was sarcastic, or just a train of stuttering. So instead he likes getting you stuff instead. He'll leave gifts on your desk or in your room but don't mention it cause he gets sensitive about being all sappy

Surprisingly I don't think Adam is into pda too much, he'd say that its bad for his 'brand' when in reality he also thinks that pda would put too much attention on you and he wouldn't be too fond of that as he might get a little possessive at times

He doesn't mind the way you dress, honestly he thinks that baggy stuff look way better on you anyways and will lend you some of his clothes from time to time. Not to mention that he dresses the exact same way and doesn't seem to care too much for 'fancier' tastes

I feel like you two would mess around quite a bit, he would have the more extreme ideas and you would dial it back a bit telling him when and when not to do something. You would also probably help him prank a few people sometimes as long as it wasn't too harmful to them

what’s your character design process (if you have one?)

which of your characters has changed the most in terms of design? and the least?

Oh, this is a super fun one!

To answer your first question, I haven't done a whole lot of character design super recently, but I usually go into it with either an animal, an idea, or both!

When it comes to going into something with just an animal, usually I have a vibe I wanna capture that I think the animal captures well, and sorta elaborate on that vibe as I go. For example, when I was designing Allison, I knew I wanted a woman shaped like a fridge. That was pretty much all I knew. So, I started with figuring out how to translate the animal into my style (which usually starts with figuring out the head)

Usually, I try to draw something more accurate to the animal I'm after first. Even here, you can see me experimenting with how I wanted Allison to act. Most of the time, this leads into an initial concept sketch where I do the most elaboration on the initial vibe.

So suddenly, the fridge shaped woman is a goofball (shown in the head sketches), but she's also confident and handles a weapon that can punch through a LOT. Also, see her gloved hand? That wasn't initially a prosthetic arm. I just didn't want to draw individual fingers to add claws there, thus birthing her asymmetric design. Sometimes laziness breeds creativity!

Much of the process from here is adding on ideas until you've got a solid base for your character!

She's in the same universe as Lucy? Awesome! She's a cool badass who sometimes wears a shoulder cape? Neat!

From here, you reach the point where the character carves their spot into whatever world you place them in. You establish their relationships, their feats, their past, and you carve the world out for their role appropriately!

The big thing to keep in mind is that you're never gonna nail everything down just right the first time.

Now, for your second question!

I'm sorta torn on who's changed the most. Riley has certainly seen the biggest evolution through my art style, but their design has mostly stayed the same, and theres a few others who have a similar case, but honestly, I think Violette takes the cake for most changed design.

I already made a post about just how much her prosthetic has changed over the years, but she's also gotten a new hairstyle, and honestly, just a new vibe in general. For example, here, she was a lot more... Indifferent? Even mean to a degree. She's a goth/cyberpunk gal who's not gonna take shit from anybody. She was the mean dom-y type, y'know?

And while a lot of that has stayed with her in later versions of her design, she's a lot more prone to being soft and flirty, and only letting Riley see her more dominant nature, though even that is a lot less mean now.

She's a lot more of a fully realized person than she was before. Part of that plays into her story, while another part of that was me realizing how desperately her character needed to be fleshed out. She's still goth, though that never really changed. I think I mighta leaned into a little more recently, actually.

As far as my least changed character, it's gotta be Harlow. I went in with a plan and pretty much never strayed from it.

Like apart from filling out their story more, they've pretty much always been the whole "black cats are voids with eyes" trope that I wanted to make them, the whole void thing playing into their interest in being as gender ambiguous as I could make 'em.

My goodness! This isn’t the normal for me but why not. I figure the chances of a #Taylurking would be higher here!

Ok so here’s a straight forward, insightful and personal look into my world and how it is travelling with the post below that I recently shared in the Facebook Fan Group “Taylor Swifts Vault” Thanks to this page I discovered (thankfully in time to get some tickets!!) that my local cinema will be playing the Eras tour movie and after locking down tickets, I was beyond stoked and have had the best day celebrating and singing Taylor ALL DAY. Now look, this is the usual for me to sing all the things all of the times, but it was next level for the family, trust me.

I thought it was only being shown in Brisbane and was sorta kinda hurt all over again after not being able to get tickets. After making peace with not getting tickets, I buried any hard feels by creating this very blog page you find yourself eyeballing!

I’d been gently guiding my niece (I am her full time guardian) and stepdaughter, also 12, into Swiftie Territory. I mean, we would already regularly bust out to a song together; I am always oversharing facts and insights into whatever song might be playing or giving Swiftstory Lessons on the crucial moments in Taylor’s life and what impact they might have had, BUT most importantly I am forever establishing Taylor as a perfect role model for them by talking about/reminding them of all the amazing acts of kindness she does, her humble nature and generous bonuses to staff and the wonderful ways she shows up for her fans in so many ways.

I have been know to correlate lyrics and thematic aspects of Taylor’s songs when we are having the big “life” talks; you know, relationship talks and whatever- There is always something that can be tied to a TS song, particularly with 12 year old girls who have huge amounts of feelings and a tendency to be dramatic.

I was SO happy they agreed to be my dates on Friday the 13th October at 6pm AEST at Reading Cinemas, Harbourtown, Gold Coast/Queensland Australia (phew what a mouthful lol. Posted this specific info in the hopes of catching the attention of any other fellow local Swifites!)

But when we started excitedly discussing and began whipping up our friendship bracelets and planning our outfits together (..or “fits” as my niece calls it) I had to hold back from crying happy, deep realisation in the in the moment style of tears.

Anyone with 12 year old girls knows how difficult it can be navigating this period of life in general; the attitudes, moodiness and rapid increase in laziness is enough with just the one, but here I am with TWOz And although I love them like my own and treat ALL the kids equally (there’s 4 other boys too,step sons a nephews and a biological Threenager turddler) - It can be so hard, often at times THAT much harder not actually being their Mum.

Why is it that much harder? When they were younger, the dynamics were strictly that of parental figure and child and rules that were more firmer given their ages.

Now, as they get older and start to outgrow previous rules and are given slightly more leeway, they sometimes get more resistant, stubborn and more argumentative as they relearn different and new boundaries.

What I am trying to convey is how today I discovered an extra love and appreciation for Taylor Swift that I didn’t consider as a possibility- that being an unexpected but highly enjoyable new bond between my girls and I.

Both digital and traditional artist speaking here!!

First of all: ESKEERRR!!!! I love theeemmmm!!!!! That's my favorite space cowboy!!!! You have such a pretty style to look at <333 it's not super often I see traditional colored pencil drawings on here and you've made Esker look so so so nice <3333 I keep trying to draw them but I'm SO BAD at drawing cowboy hats :') you've done an incredible job here!!!! And the angle of the face is really nice too!! I've personally been struggling with more dynamic angles, so I personally admire your ability to do so as well as you have!! Beautiful art, incredibly done my friend!!

Second! I have some digital tips for you!!

I will be first to admit, my exact process is a bit unorthodox, but I feel you may still find some use in it!

See, I'm not actually great at sketching in a digital format, and never really have been. I enjoy coloring digitally and doing line art digitally due to the freedom and forgiveness of digital art- but sketching has never quite worked out for me.

So instead what I do is I do all my sketches traditionally!! All of them :)

And then I try and take clean pictures of my sketches or scan them in, import the picture of the sketch into whatever drawing application you use (I use ibis paint on my phone, but that's a whole other can of worms lol) and from there you can either start line art over the sketch, or you can just go straight to putting down color under the sketch by using a multiply layer for your sketch!

Here are some recent digital works of mine to show you how it can work under the cut! (I really hope I'm not being too forward here or anything btw ;-;

Here are examples of line art I've done over sketches recently! The first one being traditional line art over the sketch as is, the second being digital line art over traditional line art (that's why it looks cleaner) and the third being an example of where I fixed some anatomy during the digital process!

Here are examples of just putting down color underneath the sketch using a multiply layer! The second picture (the clown) and the third (woman with gold horns) are ones I did yesterday, and the clown picture looks way more rough than the bird boy or the other two because I was actually just color testing, not actually wanting to make a finished picture!

These are just some plain line art pictures, so you can see the clean result of doing digital line art over traditional sketches!

And lastly, just one totally completed artwork kinda for fun :3 My style is much different than yours, and I tend to portray a heavily textured, semi-lineless style, which I know is not exactly a common style 💀 but just in case it helps you visualize the end product and help you with thinking of other possibilities, you know?

When I VERY first started doing digital art, I think I was like 14-15 years old? I wasn't very good at art period, and I STRUGGLED transitioning to Digital, and gave it up for a long time. And then I sorta discovered I could import my sketches, and it was a total game changer!! I've been doing digital art this way for nearly 6 years now, and while my style and process has grown and changed significantly in those 6 years, this part of my process has always stayed the same.

And maybe doing this will only be a stepping stone into being able to sketch digitally for you, just a little transitional helping hand- but art has no rules. Remember that! Art has no rules and if you find something that helps you and that you think looks nice and is functional, then DO IT!!! I've been doing digital pieces on my phone for YEARS, and as much as people tell me I should really start using an art tablet or something else, I've found that this method works for me, and I see no urgent need to change that! (Also I'm really lazy and don't want to learn how to use a new program- but that's besides the point lol)

Switching mediums is always gonna be tough at first, and it'll probably take you a little while before you really get a grip on it- but being a traditional artist isn't a downgrade, and I feel that's very important to know. You have AMAZING skill, and I ADORE your colored pencil work on this drawing of Esker!!! Just because it's not "popular' online, doesn't mean it's worse. Traditional art does and will always have a place in the world- INCLUDING fandom spaces! I find that some of my favorite pieces of fan art have been traditional pieces, so don't sell yourself short my friend!

I wish I could share some of my traditional pieces I've done to try and help encourage that, but ah, I've run out of images I can post :')

I'm so so sorry for writing like, an essay in your post op ;-; I'm very passionate about art and try and always take every opportunity I can to give pointers to others in my community when I can- helping each other out when we can is the pinochle of actual community after all!

Traditional doodle of Esker this time. Yk my favourite traveller used to be Riebeck, but recently it's swapped over to Esker. They are one of the founders, but they aren't in the founders photo, and being forgotten on the alterrock, they deserve love and I love them.

I'm struggling. So. Fucking. Hard. To transition into digital. Had a full day yesterday to doodle and everytime I tried I wanted to rip my hair out. I feel like I've also regressed in my traditional art as well, which is uurauagauagah.

If any digital artists have any tips and tricks pls pls hmu.

Give Me a Heart That Won't Break

look at me, finally getting around to posting this on tumblr! i was planning on doing it when i posted in ao3, but i just was too lazy to lmao ;;;

this fic, along with its title, is heavily based on the song Impatiens Balsamina, and I implore you to listen to it!! it's such a pretty yet heart-breaking song <33 and of course i had to inflict pain onto levi, who else would be perfect for this song? lol

anyway, i really hope you enjoy this!! it's in a different style than i usually write in (no dialogue, present tense), so i hope there aren't too many mistakes there (god knows how many times i had to rewrite parts because i instinctively went back into writing past tense lol) but yeah!! please enjoy <3

His headphones aren’t plugged to his phone. He still wears them, scrolling through his phone and acting like they are. Levi is not in the mood to listen to short, few second videos, nor did he want to listen to his classmates. So he instead scrolls through Devilgram, and uses his soundproof headphones to drown out everyone around him. His eyes flit around the room, where other demons chatted and laughed; class hadn’t started yet, and it would be a few minutes before it did. So of course, his peers took the chance to chat, all in their different groups and surrounding someone’s table to form a circle and excitedly spoke over another.

Levi closes his eyes with a sigh for a few seconds, before then going back onto his phone. He doesn’t care about them or whatever they were talking about–probably just about parties, or shopping, or their weekend plans, or whatever normies talked about. He is fine alone, thank you very much. He preferred it, actually. A loud laugh startles the demon, and his head shoots up to search for the source.

A jock, he thinks bitterly. Of course it was a jock who didn’t understand how to be quieter inside, and is impossibly loud enough to break through his headphones for him to listen clearly. They give a hearty laugh, outstretching their hand to give a few friendly pats on their friend's shoulder. Levi is quick to realize that the other demon there that is on the receiving end of the shoulder pats is Beel, who shares a smile just as wide as his friend. His eyes search, because if one twin is there, then–ah, there he is. Belphie is seated in a nearby desk, head down with his arms out to rest on. Unlike most days though, he is wide awake, a smile hidden by his arms, and Levi can see from how his eyes crinkle and how his mouth moves that he is participating in the friendly banter.

He watches for a short few seconds, before snapping back to his phone. He clicks it back on, and goes back to scrolling and pretending not to care or listen to the others around. Well, he isn’t pretending, not at all, he doesn’t care. He is fine with no one around him–hell, he’s happy that he’s alone, because they would just be too loud and annoying, and he doesn't have the patience to handle stupid normies.

Levi is fine doing his own thing, even if it does make him appear to be lonely. Which he isn’t, because he made the choice to be alone. Why would he want to be in cliques where they would just–just-

His hand grips the phone tighter as the screen dims. He isn’t lonely. He doesn’t care what others think. Because that would make him something to be pitied and he is the Avatar of Envy. Yes, he is a gross otaku, someone who plays video games all day, has too much useless trivia memorized, spends literal days watching anime, but he is still the general of Hell’s Navy. He is still very powerful, and has power that should be feared. It sorta sends a message, in a way, of his power, in a similar vein of how Lucifer lets very few people around him. Levi does not need them, nor their pity. He does not need their pity because he is powerful and loves to be independent, and that he is not lonely. He likes it this way–it was better for everyone, in the end.

Levi prefers it this way, anyway. Being alone. He revels in his alone time. Because, because if he doesn’t…

His eyes darts back to the twins. He watches as another demon enters the conversation, and the two nameless ones give a weird handshake as a greeting. He watches as Beel and Belphie laugh and talk.

…if he doesn’t, then there would be something wrong with him. Levi is the loner, afterall, and always would be. He is the one who failed in holding normal conversations, the one who is afraid of saying the wrong thing to someone, the one who rehearses what he says, the one who struggles to even come to classes in-person, the one who can’t even do a class presentation. He is the one that everyone knows wants to be alone, and it would always be like that. They will always seem him like that, and he will always stay in his shell. Alone. A win for both parties, really.

More noises catch Levi’s attention. He moves his phone around his hands like a fidget toy as he watches his younger and much prettier brother walk into the classroom. He takes his time walking, a joyful smile on his face as he laughs and gasps at whatever someone says. His groupies follow him, and suddenly they are all taking up too much room–all laughing and squealing and enjoying themselves. They are all so happy, he thinks absentmindedly, watching a few feet away from the circle. Everyone is engaged, all participating in one way or the other.

He wonders–a tiny, minuscule part wonders–if being labeled as the loner was something he could have escaped. That maybe if he had forced himself out of his comfort-zone, if he had gone to any of the meetings for the gaming or anime club, he could be in the same situation Asmo and Beel and Belphie all found themselves in. If he had been there from the start, maybe things would have been different for him. Maybe he would find himself in a group like them.

Asmo’s fans and friends all hang off of his brother’s every word, and all react accordingly. Levi shakes his head and snaps back down to his phone. He turns it back on. What a dumb thought–what would he do, anyway? Abruptly ask them if he could join them? Levi has pride, believe it or not, and knows not to waste his time doing something dumb like that.

Besides, he’s thinking as if he has no friends, which wasn’t true at all. He has his friends in the Navy, who only ever makes the time to talk to him when he comes around every blue moon for official business; along with that, he has his online friends–who he could only really just play video games with, discuss anime, and vent about surface-level problems. Hell, he even has friends in a few different classes! Sure, they were more just like acquaintances really, where he and the other exchange pleasantries and easy small talk because their usual friend groups were separated in different classes, but–but it counts. Levi counts it, even if it’s not anything real. It needs to count for something. 

His screen cracks a bit. Levi, surprised, blinks, as he stares at the cracks that were caused by his thumb pressing hard against the bottom of the screen. He sighs, and clicks it back on once more. Looks like he would need a new phone screen. Lucifer would give him a good scolding about being careful with his strength and handling phones again, he just knows it. 

The warning bell goes off. He can hear it vaguely ring, and more people start to filter in. Asmo’s group all start to give goodbye hugs as many of them leave the class in order to head off to their own classroom. Asmo waves and gives his own goodbyes to his friends, drawing out the whole thing. Hell, Asmo even hops off his desk, and lingers just out the doorway as the majority of them leave. 

Levi scoffs out loud. They act as if it's the end of the world; that they won’t ever be able to see each other again, or something. It’s like they all can’t live without one another, or without Asmo around with them, at the very least. It was all so dumb in Levi’s eyes. He certainly wasn’t missing out on much.

So he doesn’t envy them, not at all. Really, he doesn’t.

His eyes linger on them until most of them filter out, and the room becomes quieter. Not exactly the dead silent, but quiet enough around him and his area that he couldn’t hear anyone through his headphones. Just the way he likes it.

Asmo settles back down, going back on top of his desk and conversing with anyone left. Levi’s eyes look around the room mindlessly as he watches more friends greet each other and have a good time together. He then meets a pair of fiery green eyes staring at him.

The eye contact breaks just as soon as it begins. Levi, rightfully startled, calms a bit when he finds that it was just Satan, who had been apparently staring at him for an unknown amount of time. Why had he been staring at him? But his eyes were back on his book and he acted as if nothing happened. Levi supposes that he should do the same.

But he stares at his younger brother for a few more beats. He watches as Satan reads his book, sitting in his chosen desk, close to the wall and just about in the middle of the rows, not too far from Levi’s own desk. Levi watches as he basks in the silence; although his headphones work well, it mainly comes from the fact that no one is sitting around the fifth-born. He is alone, with all desks around him left empty and untouched. It forms a space of silence around him, where he is able to read his book in peace. He looks…Levi is unable to place the look he sees on Satan’s face. He isn’t sure how to read it.

More people take their places. Levi faintly registers Satan’s scowl as others sit next to him in order to talk to one another and act as if he isn’t there. The last few of the students enter the classroom, taking up the seats that were left open. They all talk over one another, making Levi grateful for his headphones. A group of friends took the open seats around Levi, and Levi pretends not to care as they are loud and have fun around him while he stares down at his desk. Having normies like that so close to him was…

It hurt, in a weird way. Which Levi hates, because he refuses to be seen as the loser in this situation. Well, he almost always was during most times, he could own up to that, but not a loser for not having a loud and annoying and obnoxious squad around him. He does not envy them, not at all–if he did, then it was just his Sin acting up. It happens to all of them–Satan’s Wrath made him angrier than most, Lucifer’s Pride made him a prick, and sometimes Levi’s envy made it hard to be around others who had something he didn’t have. 

Levi didn’t want what they all have; he didn’t want to have people around him to talk to about the things he enjoys, to go out with to all the anime cafés, to laugh and have fun with. He was fine being alone. He tells himself that time and time again because it was true and it’s as simple as that.

In truth, he just wants to rid his Envy. Or, perhaps, just simply be able to handle the small amount of heartache he feels every time he sees his brothers with their friends. He wishes for, maybe, a stronger heart that wouldn’t break at the thought of being alone after school and when he went home and when he would go back to R.A.D. the following day, week, year. He doesn’t know if he can stand it for that long.

But he will. Because there is nothing wrong, and Levi knows and accepts this. This is just the way things were, set up all by him. He’s the one who asked for his, to be left alone and not around anyone, and he was given what he asked for. He couldn’t possibly complain about it now, not after seeing how annoying everyone else and their friends were. He is happy where he stands.

If he wasn’t, Levi thinks to himself as class starts, then something inside of him was wrong. Wrong, and incredibly broken.
