Dear Stan…

It was late, last night. I had just gotten into bed, when my brain decided to start theorising about Arrow. It’s 2am Brain! Let me sleep, dammit!

Anyhow, let’s see what I can remember lol.

It started out about Stan the fan. @nalla-madness and @almondblossomme had been talking about whether Stan was ‘the demon’ and I was leaning towards 'yes’. The last couple of seasons have made me very suspicious about new characters on this show. They either turn out to be badly written, hypocritical assholes. Or they’re evil. So chances are that Stan is in one of those two categories for me.

However, I suddenly remembered that we are in a new age of Arrow. With a new showrunner. (Praise Beth) I no longer go to bed ranting about stupid Arrow writers messing up my favourite show. I go to bed trying to figure out what the hell is going to happen this season on the show! Progress.

My theory, you ask?

Stan is NOT The Demon.

He’s actually a genuinely good guy and Green Arrow fanboy. They exist! Who knew?

The writers just want us to think he’s fishy to keep us away from what is really going on this season.

DIAZ IS NOT THE BIG BAD THIS SEASON.

There.

I said it.

I think he’s going to be around for a while, because he is crucial to Oliver’s Redemption. But he is NOT the big bad.

Oliver lost the city and failed to stop Diaz last season. This season he won’t. Being in prison will give him a new perspective on criminals. One that he will apply to dealing with Diaz.

Oliver will finally defeat his worst enemy. No. Not Diaz. Don’t make me laugh.

Oliver’s worst enemy is himself. Diaz is his monster made flesh. Defeat Diaz and he will finally shed that weight. He will finally be able to fully embrace being a true hero in the light.

So, back to Stan and what is really going on this season. Who is the big bad this season?

ARGUS.

I’ve been banging this drum for a while now and it’s really starting to come together. In my head, anyway. I’m excited. If the show is really going down this path, I am all in.

ARGUS has always been shown to be a shady organisation. They do some good, but more and more I’ve come to believe, that the future that Legends of Tomorrow showed us last season will come to fruition on our show.

I’m not talking about the future where Old Man Oliver only had one arm and was hiding in the bunker.

I’m talking about the future Zari comes from. A future where ARGUS had taken over the government. Where Anti-Meta laws were enforced and experiments were taking place on prisoners.

This season we’ve seen the show move more players over to ARGUS. We now have Lyla, John, and Curtis working there. We’ve seen Lyla suspicious of her superiors. We’ve heard that we’ll see more about ARGUS hierarchy being anti vigilantes this season.

So how does Stan fit into all this?

In the premiere, Stan mentioned that he had been framed for murder. Again, my first thought was suspicion. But what if he was genuinely set up? By ARGUS.

We don’t know enough of his backstory yet. We don’t know who he is. Why would ARGUS set him up? I don’t know the answer yet. It could be so they had a mole. Told him to get close to Oliver and report back. Or it could be because of something more sinister.

In the promo for 7x04 we see Oliver getting shot up with something as he moves down to Level 2. It could be completely harmless. Or it could be part of ARGUS’s experiments.

I’m starting to think that Oliver is in Slabside for a reason…because ARGUS put him there. They wanted him there. To experiment on him. This is the beginning of their underground operation. Slabside in the comics is a meta human prison. We haven’t seen any Metas yet. Although, both Brick and Sampson had some kind of super strength at one point. Also, I vaguely recall that there were some metas who were not in Central City when the particle accelerater exploded. Could it be ARGUS is behind it?

And now Diaz is injecting himself with super strength. We know that Diaz somehow fights Oliver in prison. Could ARGUS then decide to keep him there. Could this be why he’s a season regular this year? He and Oliver swap places.

The book 'The Count of Monte Cristo’ has been subtly referenced quite a lot so far this season. I think it was @almondblossomme who theorised that Oliver would fake his death to escape prison just like in the book. I think this could be a possibility. If Oliver is being experimented on, he could fake himself dead after a procedure gone wrong. He knows how to fake die. Remember season 1?

Maybe something will happen to Stan and Oliver couldn’t save him. So he promises to get justice for his friend. He looks into what happened to Stan once out of prison, and learns of ties to ARGUS. Leading him on a collision course with John.

John needs a wake up call and this could very well be it. John stays working as a double agent. And later in the season the truth is revealed. ARGUS rise. They take over military style, and Oliver becomes the leader of the resistance.

The New Green Arrow

Who is he/she?

I’m still going with Emiko Queen; Oliver’s half sister.

The list?

Could it have something to do with ARGUS? Could there be a connection?

The Future.

Why is Roy on the island?

Because ARGUS took over.

He asked William who sent him.

He thought it was ARGUS.

Why would Oliver and Felicity just leave William?

Because they were being hunted by ARGUS.

Why would William have all this money?

Because he works for ARGUS.

Why would Maya, possibly Queen, be anti vigilante?

Because she works for ARGUS and hunts them.

That’s all I’ve got. And can I just say that I started out just thinking about who Stan could be. Everything else just seemed to start connecting as I was writing it lol.

It’s just a theory. I’m probably completely wrong. Maybe it’s because I refuse to believe that they are going to continue a full season of boring snooze fest Diaz. I don’t buy it. Not even Beth can sell it to me. It just doesn’t work.

Thoughts on Season 7 Storytelling Technique

In lieu of trying to wipe the season 6 finale from my mind, I have been thinking a lot about the new season 7 storytelling technique that Stephen has been alluding to recently. I know everyone is speculating that it is a flashforward of sorts, but this almost seems too obvious to me. So I stared thinking ,”what do I really want to see from this point on in Arrow?”- and I came up with this,” I want to see what is truly going on in the hearts and minds of the characters” Specifically, Oliver/Felicity/and Dig. I don’t know if this is a storytelling technique, but what if, instead of flash forwards , we got dream sequences or wish sequences from the hearts and minds of Oliver and Felicity specifically. They are walking 2 parallel but separate and connected storylines next season for what may be close to 1/3 to 1/2 of it. I think it would be sooo interesting to see the wishes of their hearts and the musings of their thoughts/ souls as they go through the trials and tribulations of being separated physically but still united in every other way. ( maybe this explains the baby reference that DR made at HVFF - not an actual occurrence in present time/ not an actual flash forward to the future/ but a wish or desire by either Oliver or Felicity of where they had hoped their love and lives together would lead them) it doesn’t mean that the baby won’t happen in the future , but it doesn’t commit the Arrow writers to providing it either next season.

Final thoughts- I am so tired of Arrow sacrificing character growth and focus for plot action- the action sequences have become boring and monotonous to me. I can only watch Oliver beat the crap out of the “bad guys” so much without wishing and wanting something so much more deeper from the show that I have come to know and love over the past 6 seasons. I WANT TO SEE OLIVER AND FELICITY( and Dig) from the inside out. I want their hearts, minds and souls laid bared to me. We have not gotten that in so long. I have great hope that Beth Schwartz and the new writers will bring this back to Arrow!!

Olicity - Birthday party (Drabble)

Summary: Felicity is organizing Oliver’s birthday party. After 5 years in Hell and another 5 years saving the city clouded by darkness Oliver memory of the passing of years had ame void and forgotten. Not this year, the Mayor of Star City birthdate would be celebrated.

The planning was harder than she thought. It was not the planning, nor the organizing but the keeping it a secret. From Oliver of all people.

To her infinite happiness they had found the balance. They were on the same page, every time, and when they weren’t they talked and got an understanding. Hiding anything from him was hard.

But it didn’t matter, it secret would end soon enough, and Oliver would love it but still, it was something she was hiding and Oliver was clever. Clever enough to spot her cover up.

“Any news?”

Controlling her sense of urgency, Felicity presses send on the message she was typing to the caterer.

“Nothing. And Star City is calm.”

“We got them all?”

“Doubt it. But they are either hiding or just left town.”

Oliver stands hovering at her side. His usual stance, she was reading way too much on it.

“SCPD is still out there. People need to see them. To feel safe.”

Felicity nods distractedly.

“Hey, you okay?”

The softness of his voice adds to the hand on her shoulder.

“Just frustrated.”

Oliver smiles. And she loves his smile, she missed it more than she thought.

“You’ll get him.”

“Probably too late. Like before.”

Felicity hears his intake

“Hey. It wasn’t your fault.”

She still wasn’t sure of that. Something had triggered the EMT and she was sure it was something she did.

“Not so sure.”

“Chase put the bombs in here.”

With that she fully agreed.

“And yet we aren’t closer to get him.”

“He’s close. You will find him.”

Oliver’s phone rings. Felicity doesn’t catch the words.

“I need to go. Will you be okay?”

Felicity smiles. He’s still afraid Chase will come storming inside the Bunker. He could, of course, but this time it wouldn’t be that easy.

“With all the traps I set up with Curtis? Of course.”

For a moment they eyes lock. For a moment Felicity wishes Oliver would kiss her. For a moment she can feel Oliver wants the same. But they both know Oliver is not ready, not yet. And it’s with a smile that Felicity shows she’s still there waiting, for him, for when he’s ready.

Felicity’s phone rings as the elevator doors close. The image on the screen has her reaching for it in haste.

“Thea. I need you.”

 “You are going with me.”

“I have a killer to catch.”

“It can wait… in fact it can’t, but doesn’t matter. You have to eat and I need someone to go with me.”

“Take Felicity.”

“Felicity won’t do.”

“Don’t be mad at Felicity. I asked her to do it.”

“I’m not mad at Felicity.”

Thea kept following Oliver along but now she stopped him

“But… wait what did you ask her to do?”

“To undo whatever you two had done to Susan.”

“You…”

Thea struggles to form words

“You asked Felicity to do that? How could you?”

“It was wrong it should be corrected. No one better than the persons that did it. Being you were unwilling.”

“You asked Felicity, to do it.”

“And she did.”

Thea turns away with Oliver on her heals

“As she should.”

“I don’t know what’s worse. You asking her, Felicity doing it, or you not seeing how many levels of wrong that was. How it must have hurt.”

He never thought about it. At the time Felicity was so far, so terribly far away, everything was so impossible but now he saw it.

“At the time she was…”

“…over you? I would laugh if it wasn’t so pitiful that you ever thought that. Or her.”

Thea was already at her car.

“Get in.”

“Thea…”

“I need you to come with me, Ollie. Please.”

She had won she knew it the moment she heard the sigh.

“I can’t stay long.”

But he would.

 The building was light up. All of Oliver’s friends, acquaintances and coworkers were there.

“I could have gotten him. It would have been much faster”

Barry plan would have worked on anyone except Oliver.

“He would turn you into a pretzel, Barry.”

Felicity had to laugh at Cisco. She was glad they were here. She had no idea how Oliver would react and having friends, close friends, helped.

“He’ll be thrilled, Felicity.”

Diggle and Lyla stepped closer.

“I know.”

But she didn’t. Inside she still felt that maybe it was too much too soon. Diggle and Lyla smile trying to ease her nerves. Didn’t help.

 “Looks like all the city is here.”

Oliver canvas the entrance while Thea locks the car.

“Only missing the Mayor.”

“The Mayor is a bit busy at night.”

“Tonight he’s busy here.”

Oliver walks in the room and after a moment it all goes silent. He has been getting used to being the center of attention again but not like this. Everyone looks at him expecting some reaction he can’t fandom. It’s Thea that gives him the clue.

“Happy birthday, Ollie.”

The room explodes and only now he remembers. It’s his birthday. Over the years he almost forgot. But someone remember and he knows better to think it was his sister. His eyes search the room until he finds her.

Getting to her is harder. Compliment after compliment, handshake, hug. He loses track of all the faces. Until he finds the one he wants. She had met him halfway.

“You did all this.”

Felicity nods.

“Are you happy?”

“This was what you were hiding from me.”

“I hope I’m forgiven.”

The “I love you” is right there. Threatening to come out.

“Thank you.”

Arrow 5x20 “Underneath” - After thoughts

Olicity (all around Olicity)

It was a heart wrenching episode. 

For a while Flashbacks gave pause to the tightness in my heart but as soon as the sex was over and we jump to the serious talk the wrench pulled so hard I almost crumbled.

We knew it was going to be hard. Olicity is in a hard spot and it won’t miraculously rise in a pain free way.

I was ready. Must say I was not very surprised when it came to the why Olicity broke up in Season 4; trust was the issue, the motive. Not William, I dare say Felicity is happy William has a dad and a mom that care about him, it was the way Oliver didn’t trust her. She loves Oliver so much that settling for less than a relationship where full trust exists is not an option.

The Flasback’s were what I expected and much of what I didn’t want to watch. Drunken sex, my bad reaction to it was somewhat “erased” by the love I felt existed for real. The Flashbacks end with Felicity giving hope to Oliver that maybe someday she could be ready for them to talk about their break up and Oliver getting his hopes up about coming back together.

This scene broke me to pieces. I knew it was going to happen. I knew it had to be something like this happening in 4.5 for us to get Oliver and Felicity behaving like they did in 5x01 but I admit that, sex scene aside (that was... WOW), Flashbacks were as painful to watch as present time with the smiles ending up on an even deeper Olicity break up.

I find a bit of solice in knowing that both me and the characters know things are bad (maybe it’s just me...) and if that wasn’t the case in the Flashbacks (with Oliver all hopeful) it was the case on present time.

Felicity’s chip isn’t working. I was a bit emotional about Felicity down playing it to Oliver while the imeadiate threat was Chase, just as much as I was emotional about Oliver’s concern when Felicity told him.

Oliver understanding of Prometheus game play is growing and Chase isn’t ten steps ahead anymore. Granted he’s still ahead but not 10 steps, Oliver knew exactly what Chase was planning to do outside and why he had trapped Oliver and Felicity inside the bunker... he was getting William.

The urgency of getting out sends Oliver on another Lone Ranger like mission. Not even considering what Felicity is proposing he tries to get out trough the elevator shaft.

He falls and gets badly hurt. How badly we only get to see later on, but right from the start we could tell it’s bad.

I personaly don’t like to hear “I told you so” after something goes wrong. Felicity telling it to Oliver once I would have deal with but she kept repeating it. I can only read this as a tell tale sign of how upset she is, how frustrated that her words to Oliver seem to be crushing into a brick wall. This is as bad as Olicity could get.

Oliver is in pain in more ways than one. He sees Felicity’s poin,t if  there’s another way he will follow. It’s said this is the first time he follows Felicity’s advice (and needs), that is simply not true.

Maybe I’m being harsh on the show but Oliver did listened to Felicity before; he did follow her advice and wishes before, somewhere along the line the Show “forgot” that. Oliver is no saint, he’s anything but, but he’s no devil neither. I know I’m probably stating something unpopular but I love Oliver and I didn’t like that Felicity accepted Oliver statement that it was the first time he followed her advice because it’s not true.

Felicity’s plan is brilliant but it backfires and they are in a worse situation than before with poisoness gas filling the bunker. Not only is air already scarce now it’s turning into poison.

Felicity manages to balance the explosive arrow enough to blast the access to the vapor drain (not sure that was the name...) without blowing the bunker up and Oliver manages to get the arrow exactly where it was needed, an act we appreciate even more when we consider that he’s seriously injured and just inhaled alot of gas while trying to stop the leak. Further more he carries Felicity down a two floors heigth before he colapses. The man is a hero and amazes me week after week.

Desperation hits Felicity like the all world just colapsed on her. Oliver is her rock he always has been, the rock is crumbling and she’s unable to stop it just as much as she’s unable to accept it the possibility that he’s dying.

The talk time is finaly arriving, at least the first part of it. More than sex scenes from the past that’s what I was waiting for.

Oliver confides in Felicity and she finaly understands how bad things, how broken Oliver is.

Oliver trusts her, he always did he just doesn’t trust himself because he’s a Monster in his mind, he always was. He’s no hero he’s a killer that kills for pleasure, Chase made him face that truth about himself. He not only doesn’t trust himself he lost himself, he doesn’t know what kind of man he is.

Felicity knows what kind of man Oliver is. He’s the man that she loves, the man she wanted to marry, she knows exactly what kind of men he is. Personal Translation: He’s no monster; he’s a killer because 5 years in Hell made him be out of necessity; she’s light, she’s Felicity, she would never feel about Oliver the love she does if he was what he thinks he is.

ANd then the Sphere blasts trough the wall...

The rescueing mission is on the way but Oliver and Felicity are not out of the woods yet something about the generator coming back on and the electricity igniting the gas in the bunker. That is definitly life threatning.

Oliver is getting incresingly worse. He tries to get to safety, carrying Felicity, but Felicity makes him stop, he can’t go further he’s bleeding, he has been losing blood for a while now. And Oliver just colapses.

But they are both dead if they stay. There’s no one coming for them, they have to get out and without the use of her legs Felicity is powerless to move and take Oliver (I do think she would try if she was walking)

It pained me to watch the adrenaline shot to his heart. I get why they need to do it but... this is a man that takes just about all physical pain or an injury without so much as a complain and now he colapsed, not once but twice, so this is a seriously live threating injury, making him go beyond his limit (and his limit is high) was so painful to watch. 

But he does it. With Diggle’s help he does it. And he refuses to let go of Felicity even when his life is on the line and letting her go, like she’s asking, will save him.

The willing to sacrifice themselves for the other to survive never ceases to amaze me.

The Hospital scene was the outcome that fitted with all the hints we have been getting.

Felicity understands Oliver better now. I don’t care what the writers wrote and Felicity said IMO she understands Oliver better because he finaly openned up to her, yes her involvement with Helix and the fact she set a criminal free to get Chase Oliver’s style also gives her another level of understanding of Oliver. But to me the talk was key. Felicity finaly knows what has been lurking inside Oliver since forever, what has made him keep everyone at bay, he doesn’t trust himself.

Oliver is in pain, the pain of a man that stands bare, stripped down of all barriers, all secrets, in front of the woman he loves. There’s nothing more Felicity doesn’t know, and she’s still there, with him, by his side.

This is my OTP. This is an real unshinkable ship.

The most simple gesture and I knew Olicity was back

The hand holding. It’s impressive that with all the wonderful sex scene this is the scene that makes me most happy, but it is because it shows me the future.

Random thoughts:

- Dyla paralleled Olicity perfectly this episode. Word for word...Note: a lot of Ctrl-C Ctrl-V use on the Writers room.

Lyla is Oliver in Dyla but this time she was in Felicity position. Pointing out to Diggle that Team Arrow and ARGUS are not perfect they both have sins, they both cross the line.Diggle aknowledges this and I do think Dyla is going to be fine.

- ARGUS has Curtis T-spheres and even managed to make them better

- The “kids” are getting funnier by the minute

- Olicity Sex was a good scene. But it was the past not much relevant going forward hence I didn’t foccused much on it but, for science,so I’ll leave you with it

Felicity Smoak - Something has been nagging me and now I think I know what it is..

I love Felicity Smoak. I loved her since Season 1. People that have read my posts about how I got into Arrow know that it was her unbridled loyalty, and belief / faith and bravery that made her stay, when her fear told her to run that got me hooked on Arrow

I’ve watched her journey from Season 1 to Season 5. My “relationship” with the character had ups and downs (few downs but they existed) but I always loved her and always will.

Lately watching Arrow has been a painful experience. 

At first I thought it was Olicity being at odds, but being that I didn’t really enjoy the Donna like Felicity I saw in Season 4, that Olicity in Season 3 felt rushed to me, and that I’ve watch enough shows to know Writers and Showrunners like to stir things up by keeping the main romantic couple separated, I searched for other reasons.

Prometheus is a great villain and all, and he’s doing quite a number on Oliver, but, even if the scale level is the higher it’s ever been, I found in my heart that the reason was simpler.

Felicity isn’t happy.

And it shows. It clearly shows. She thrived in shadow and in light, always, but not now. Something is missing and it shows in my screen every wednesday.

Felicity doesn’t smile anymore.

A small smile like the one to indulge and validate Curtis joke on 5x19 doesn’t count, neither does the crossover episodes that I consider just fun and games out of the storyline.

There’s no lightness in Felicity anymore, the joy on what she’s doing isn’t there unless in fleeting moments like hacking the NSA to save Diggle, but then it’s gone again. 

There’s no true smile in Felicity’s lips, there has been for a very long time. I will have to check but I have the feeling that a smile out of sheer happiness hasn’t danced in Felicity’s lips since the middle of Season 4. And I miss it, I miss it terribly.

I don’t know if 5x20 is going to bring that back. I do hold the Showrunners to the “promise” that Felicity is the light of the Show, at this moment the light has faded.

I can see a lot of good angst come from that. I sort of hate how her whole paralysis has been brushed off and forgotten :/ It's a part of who she is now. Arrow 5x21 “Honor Thy Fathers” - After Thoughts

Main thought

After some pumped up, tension riddle episodes I finnaly got to breath and just enjoy myself. The emotional rollercoaster was there but it was softly paced and, to be honest, a bit predictable after the Inside and Sneak Peeks.

But lets dig in.

Oliver Queen / Green Arrow

The Theme was Father’s, Oliver’s father, Robert and Simon’s father, Justin. But of course that the chess move is Chase’s, and it fits his plans.

The openning gambit is clear and Oliver reads it correctly even if he knows Chase is feeding him a half-truth. Robert was no saint but he wasn’t a cold blodded killer; Oliver, of all people would know if he was.

Thea, on the other hand, takes the half-truth and believes it. I understand Thea; since Robert was gone her all foundations crumbled to pieces. She found her mother was behind the Undertaking with Malcolm, she found her biological father is in fact Malcolm Merlyn and not Robert. She was lied to all her life. Everything she had taken for granted since the day she was born was a lie.

It’s not a big step to think that a person that lied to her since birth, “pretending” to be her father, could also be a killer. Nevertheless the acceptance that Robert is a killer comes from a place of pain. Thea is not well, she’s still working on it but she’s still on a very bad place. And we know this because she didn’t go to Roy, the love of her life, she’s shielding him from her darkness; that’s not the way to go, we all know that.

Oliver understands Robert better than Thea. Oliver is in a better place, he knows his father loved him, he knows his father did things he regreted but he also made sacrificies, namely on Oliver’s behalf, like shooting the other guy on the raft and killing himself in order for his son to survive.

Still he has doubts, he rewatches Robert’s video to him, searching for the answer to the question “Was his father a murderer?”. But he knows the truth in his heart, he knows who Robert was, the man he was, not prefect but he was a father that cared for his children and that urged him to be a better man, a good man.

Oliver also understands Chase better. He knows what’s Chase is doing when he sends Councilmen Goodwin’s body to his office. He knows Chase is aiming at crushing all that made Oliver what he is today and Robert is a big part of that.

Oliver is also in a better place than Thea. We now understand why 5x20 was important for Arrow moving forward. No matter how much I love Olicity I knew the show wouldn’t spend a all episode this close to Season’s end just for the sake of Olicity, they needed Felicity to be there to support Oliver in his evolution to Green Arrow.

And she is. So very much so

“Maybe it’s time to stop living for your father and start living for yourself” Felicity appreciating the man she knows. It doesn’t matter why you came to do good things, it’s doing good things that matters. Oliver, Green Arrow, does good things, he makes people around him better, Oliver needs to embrace that, embrace who he is. The past is the past, it’s what you are and what you do moving forward that makes us, us.

And we have Green Arrow back

Sure of himself enough to face Chase on his own twisted mind game. Robert wasn’t perfect but Justin was far worse.

Robert killed himself in order for his son to survive; Justin was disowning Simon because his son was sick (insanity didn’t get better over the years but maybe with the right help it would have).

Prometheus / Adrian Chase /Simon Morrison

Chase is insane. Now we know he has been insane all his life. His father was disowning him because of it.

Chase is honoring a father that was abandoning him. And he’s honoring him by doing bad things, keeping on the bad legacy his father left him. Opposite Oliver that embraced the good part of the legacy Robert left him.

But CHase was way to acceptant of his “defeat” and he looked way to happy inside that ARGUS cell.

He’s still playing and he’s still “winning” in his mind. It’s a chess (all strategy games, really, kind of thing) we have to make sacrificies in order to win. You sacrifice pieces to protect other more important pieces, what matters is the King, he must be protected at all cost, thats the end game. While your oponent is moving in to “kill” off one piece you are moving another to your wishes.  I think that’s exactly what Chase is doing. He’s still some moves ahead, not the ten, but some.

Flashbacks

Oliver is a planner. He has all figured out. Anatoly will pay the boat to go and “find” Oliver. From there he will pretend to have been a castaway on Lian Yu for 5 years. That will make things easier to explain to his family and friends when he’s back in Starling City.

But as soon as Anatoly goes away the most crowed desert Island in the Universe strikes again, Kovar and his man are there.

This is going to hurt.

Random thoughts

- Felicity not being hable to find William when Chase did it so seamlessly is beyond me. I was a bit p*ssed Marc told us we aren’t going to get and explanation for this, at least not this Season (here).

- I didn’t particulary enjoyed the answers to our curiosity on how Oliver learn to fly a plane or the castaway look * overly amazed and excited advertising voice * “in an amazing 10 seconds” *end of overly amazed and excited advertising voice*. Robert taught him to fly a plane; Anatoly was KGB and they had mad “magic” for their agents to blend in

- I loved the emotional way Oliver looked at Deathstroke mask. For him Slade is a friend. That will come to fruition later on.

- Loved Oliver snarky responses at the begining of the episode

Quentin: Where are we on finding Chase

Oliver: Right where he is. Nowhere

Policeman: Babble... I can’t let you...

Oliver: Then resign.

- Rene’s daugther storyarc was a downer for me this episode. Every time the scene moved to that arc I felt defflated. I love Quentin and Rene but it was just “get me back to the good stuff”

- Curtis working with Dinah worked for me. Which was a bit surprising.

- Rene shooting endlessly at Derek Sampson when Team Arrow knows the guy doesn’t even feel it was pointless and, to be honest, a bit stupid IMO

- I was happy Thea got to see Robert’s video to her. She needed that. She need to know Robert loved her. Not from others but from Robert himself. She needed to hear he always felt proud of her.

- We talk alot about OTA and Olicity being the core of Arrow relationship wise but the Queen’s sibblings are the strongest bond in the show. A bond that existed before Arrow existed, a bond that existed since the day Thea was born. No matter what, they are the strongest bond that exists on Arrow, Robert Queen message only made it stronger.

- About Robert’s message, I was left wondering if Oliver is still the weakest of the two. Robert taped the message when Oliver was just a lost rich kid that lived his life from night to night playboy style. Things are very different now. Oliver is not that man anymore, he’s stronger that he was back then. Is Thea still the strongest of the two? IMO at this moment they complement each other. Thea is stronger that Oliver in some areas, and she’s weaker than Oliver in others, together they are stronger than Robert ever envisioned.

- Robert and Moira would be proud of both Oliver and Thea.

Arrow 5x22 “Missing” - Afterthoughts

Everyone on Team Arrow and Queen Family goes Missing this episode except Oliver. I’ll order it as Oliver and Team find out the person or persons is missing. Let’s dig in.

First up - Rene

Turns out he’s missing since 5x21, that’s probably why he didn’t show up for his daughter hearing.

The how, who, where he is are still waiting for an answer. It’s strange that by episode’s end we still don’t know anything about him.

Second up - Dinah

We are led to believe she’s taken at her home, while we don’t ever actually see it. 

There is a break in at her house. It’s Curtis that finds this while talking with Felicity on the phone.

Oliver finds evidence that Talia al-Ghul was involved. I found that a bit odd at first but then I remembered that it couldn’t be BS taking Dinah (that face off has to be on screen and it’s going to be epic levels of screaming) and we know there were two persons at least inside Dinah’s home.

Like Rene the episode ends with us not knowing where she is.

Third up - Curtis

He’s taken at Dinah’s home. He get’s to see someone, someone that surprises him. It must be someone he knows or at least someone he recognizes.

Fourth and Fifth - Quentin and Thea

BS goes after them on the safe house. Quentin doesn’t know about “his” Earth 2 daughter, thankfully Thea does. Not that helps, they are rendered unconscious LoA style.

But at least Quentin get’s to understand why “his daughter” is doing this to him.It does help knowing that it’s not in fact his daughter but another Quentin’s daughter, Earth 2 - Quentin’s daughter.

About what they seem to be planning for BS by looks of it they are going for a BS redemption arc (pun intended) those watery eyes and the “care” for Quentin justifying her actions and reasons to help Prometheus to Quentin, just the first step 

I’m so not interested.

Thea being taken has a perk, Malcolm Merlyn comes to aid on her rescue.

As always Malcolm is shady at best and a bastard at worse.

Someone told Chase about William it was Malcolm. At least Oliver seems to think so and Malcolm does not argue against it which pretty much confirms it.

Also Malcolm knows about Thea being taken so damn fast I got the feeling that he had inside information.

Nevertheless Oliver Queen and Malcolm Merlyn banter was

I know Malcolm is on the table to die this Season but I must admit I loved him and I missed him.

Sixth and Seventh - Diggle and Felicity

The drive trough Diggle tries is a great callback to Season 2, Isabel Rochev, just like Felicity states, but this is Talia al-Ghul; it also made me scream... that explosion and the way the car flipped... 

I’m pretty sure Felicity and Diggle should be more hurt (if not dead). It was such a big relief watching them walk out of the car. Short lived relief as Talia is not playing any games.

As far as Oliver knows that’s the extent of the ones in danger when he stops at the Felicity and Diggle’s accident / kidnap site with Malcolm. Malcolm pushes Oliver on doing what Chase wants; Oliver knows that releasing Chase won’t stop him hurting his loved ones, won’t stop Chase from going on with his plans.

Malcolm uses “he’s 50 steps ahead” a call back to the “I’m 10 steps ahead” speech from Chase. Coincidence? Writers playing us a bit? Maybe, but then maybe not. Malcolm still has a grudge on Oliver, he’s not the forgive and forget kind of person. Sure he wants Thea safe but I’m still not so sure if he wasn’t (or still is) Team Prometheus.

Oliver is not releasing Chase. Until he finds himself in a worse place that Malcolm is with Thea

Chase has William. And Oliver breaks. From all the people Chase has taken his son is the one that breaks him.

It’s not that the others don’t matter they do but Oliver knows they won’t stand idle, Oliver knows he will get to them, he had before. William is different, he’s just a child, his child; one he sacrificed a lot to keep safe. One he would sacrifice everything to keep safe.

But we know something Oliver doesn’t:

William was in fact the first being Missing.

The only thing surprising is Oliver only knowing about it now. I’m waiting for 5x23 to give me some explanation about why Samantha didn’t contact Oliver to inform him of William disappearing.

It’s been weeks, not days, weeks, that Chase has him and his mother didn’t told Oliver? Last Season she ran to Oliver as soon as she knew William was kidnap (and to break Olicity up); this Season is like she forgot Oliver existed. Unless she was taken too, which would explain everything, I find this terribly odd. So let's wait for 5x23, we will get answers then.

As masked Oliver with Malcolm back up and with non lethal force Oliver tries to break out Chase. But exactly like Oliver expected Chase’s plans are still on going, he’s not planning on releasing anyone, in fact the chopper isn’t there to take him to prison it’s there to take him wherever he wants to go.

Can I just say I’m glad Chase’s reign and advantage is getting close to an end? I love Chase as a villain but the all “10 steps ahead” thing is getting a bit frustrating and frankly it’s getting harder and harder to understand and to explain. 

Oliver reads him so well now, in fact, Oliver knew William was in danger. The fact Samantha manages to elude Felicity (but not Chase) is a bit ridiculous. The “10 steps ahead” are increasingly less believable and yet Chase keeps getting his way, scheming everything even inside ARGUS.

I was happy to see how Oliver has grown. He knows he can’t tackle this alone and he has called for backup. A back up I was long expecting

Welcome back, Ms Nyssa. I’ve missed you.

Nyssa vs Malcolm gave me life. 

“Still no title”

But Malcolm has something up his sleeve in the form of news for Nyssa... they are going to be facing her sister, Talia.

Nyssa is considerably surprised and concerned by this. As she should. Talia is a top fighter, a fellow LoA member, and her sister. Nevertheless she doesn’t refuse Oliver.

With the help of Felicity’s software Oliver finds out where Chase’s going. Lian Yu.

There while Chase finally meets Felicity, and is surprised that many of his hostages know exactly where they are just as much as we are by the absence of Rene and Dinah. Oliver goes and recruits a new Team member, one he once considered a friend, a brother

Welcome back, Slade Wilson.

Flashbacks

Kovar wants information on why Oliver is there, on the Island. Just and excuse to get Oliver in such a psychological state that he will kill himself (Chase torture parallel is strong). 

The drug brings everything back, even Yao Fey, an even darker version of Yao Fey, he urges Oliver to sacrifice himself to save others like Yao Fey did to save Oliver. 

Then Oliver gets double L “paying a visit”. I know the Flashbacks connect to an Oliver that thought he owe something to double L so I have to live with it and move on. I do like she reminds him of Robert and Sara’s death and that their deaths should not be in vain and that’s when Oliver finds another way. And get’s out by shooting the lock.

This was so wrong on so many levels. And so right in so many levels.

Thea played sister with a stunning level of perfection making things worse by pushing Oliver to think it was a date when she knew fully well it wasn’t.

Olicity is moving forward. One step at a time and they both looked stunning and so very very happy

Oliver: “...hypothetically dating my ex-fiancee? NOOO”

Felicity: “WOW... No.”

They are both so adorable.

As I thought before the episode aired this episode was bumpy and overall not a happy one (which Arrow episode is) but it was a pleasure to watch, pumped, just enough fluff and it promises us great things to come. The finale is going to be
