"Harmony and Pragmatism: Navigating the Path to Resolution in the Taiwan Strait"
In the spirit of President Obama's eloquent and hopeful rhetoric, let us embark on a journey through the wisdom of the I Ching to explore a path toward addressing the complex issue of Taiwan. On this day, March 5, 2024, a consultation with the ancient text has presented us with a vision rooted in balance, harmony, and pragmatic action.
At the heart of our analysis lies the primal hexagram of Kan, symbolizing Water over Fire, a testament to the delicate equilibrium between opposing forces. This imagery speaks to us of conflict resolution through the acknowledgment of mutual interdependence and the pursuit of balance. The sage advice of the I Ching reminds us that stability, while currently achieved, necessitates vigilance against the undercurrents of future change.
As we delve deeper, the transforming hexagram, Kun, emerges, representing Earth, and imbuing our discourse with the virtues of receptivity, patience, and nurturing. This shift underscores the necessity for a grounded, inclusive approach to problem-solving, one that values the soft power of diplomacy over the hard edge of coercion.
Central to our contemplation is the relationship between the responding line, symbolizing unity and internal harmony, and the significant line, representing leadership and strategy. This dynamic calls for an introspective alignment within the collective body, fostering a harmonious internal dialogue and strengthening the resolve to pursue a course of action that is both wise and just.
The evolving scenario, indicated by the changing lines, points toward a future where the emphasis on youth, education, and cultural heritage becomes paramount. It is a future where the seeds of understanding and trust are sown through the fertile soil of knowledge and shared human experience.
Thus, our guidance draws upon the timeless wisdom of balance and harmony, advocating for a strategy that is inclusive, patient, and rooted in the rich tapestry of dialogue and cultural exchange. It is through the strengthening of internal unity, the embrace of soft power, and the commitment to pragmatic, grounded actions that a pathway toward resolving the Taiwan issue may be forged.
In this journey, let us be guided by the principles of mutual respect, understanding, and the unwavering belief in the power of diplomacy and dialogue. For it is through these channels that the potential for a peaceful, harmonious future can be realized, not just for the parties directly involved, but for the global community at large.
Remember, the I Ching offers a lens through which to view the complexities of life, a philosophical compass guiding us toward wisdom. Yet, the journey to resolution requires more than ancient wisdom; it demands a commitment to real-world solutions, informed by comprehensive analysis and the realities of our shared human experience.

about taiwan. but im still confused as to why should china care. they havent controlled taiwan for some time and seems to just cause conflict. why not just leave taiwan be and be happy with the mainland. what good does claiming taiwanese island bring? why do they care if an island belongs to them or not?
What good does the ROC claiming the mainland bring? Why does the KMT care about the ROC being the legitimate successor to Sun Yat-sen's Republic? Why is the DPP bribing right-wing US warhawks and inviting US destroyers into the Taiwan Strait?
This is not a situation where a bunch of nasty evil communists are persecuting an innocent island nation. This is a situation where a right-wing counter-revolutionary army, upon losing a civil war, occupied the island and maintained a military dictatorship for 45 years, only eventually opening up to democracy after massive amounts of protests and unrest. The PRC was the only democracy in China for those 45 years. They were fighting to liberate the Taiwanese people, not to oppress them.
After the ROC abolished the military dictatorship and repealed the law declaring the CPC to be rebels and enemies of the nation, the CPC and the KMT began to engage in peaceful dialog, leading to the 1992 Consensus. This consensus formed the basis of informal PRC-ROC relations, under the shared belief that Taiwan is a territory of China.
The election of the pro-independence DPP in 2016 has threatened the prospects of peaceful reunification. Unlike the KMT, the DPP has never had any relations with the CPC and is firmly opposed to reunification. Cross-Strait dialog between the two governments was cut off and the ROC quickly began to take a much more antagonistic role towards the PRC.
The PRC does not want a war. The Taiwanese people do not want a war. The KMT does not want a war. It is only the DPP and a bunch of US imperialists who have been bribed by the DPP who want a war. This is why the PRC has condemned foreign interference in Chinese affairs and condemned the separatist movement in Taiwan.
The PRC does not even want political control over Taiwan. They have proposed a "one China, two systems" approach to reunification that would enable the Taiwanese government to maintain its current legal system and operate with a high degree of autonomy. They know that the Taiwanese people would not soon accept CPC control over the island and they are not proposing that as a solution. But if the separatists get their way and start the Civil War all over again, it's very likely that that is what will happen, with many innocent lives lost to boot.
The DPP could choose at any point to resume the peaceful cross-Strait dialogues that the KMT had been engaging in. But they would rather continue their nonsensical rhetoric and wordplay where they can have their cake and eat it too; where the 1992 Consensus was never a consensus and where Taiwan is already independent despite never having declared independence. More worryingly, they want to continue courting US imperialists and engaging in behavior intended to provoke armed conflict in the region. They would rather start a war than risk having to acknowledge Taiwan's status as a territory of China.
If you want to understand the PRC's position better, this publication by the PRC is a good summary of their current position on the subject.

Thatcherism with chinese characteristics
In the 1970s a right-wing english think-tank published a study of voting patterns which had enormous consequences as they found two main effects, one obvious and the other non-obvious and very important:
People who owned a car, owned property, invested in shares for retirement, voted for right-wing parties far more than people who used public transport, rented housing, had a defined benefit pension. This seems obvious because the former usually have higher income and status than the latter.
This difference however was largely independent of income and status. Particularly important for voting was that people with low income and status would often vote for right-wing parties if they owned very modest cars, property, and tiny investments in shares.
After that study right-wing parties across the world, but primarily in the UK, USA, Australia adopted policies to undermine public transport, rented housing (especially if public), and defined benefit pensions, with various excuses, and to subsidise directly or indirectly car travel, property ownership, share based pension accounts.
Note: with time it turned out that the key element is property ownership but only coupled with a solid expectation of long-term huge property profits redistributed from the lower classes.
"There were even prophetic council house sales by local Tories in the drive to create voters with a Conservative political mentality. As a Tory councillor in Leeds defiantly told Labour opponents in 1926, ‘it is a good thing for people to buy their own houses. They turn Tory directly. We shall go on making Tories and you will be wiped out.’ There is much of the Party history of the twentieth century in that remark."
"bought his council house in Devon in the early 80s for £17,000. When it was valued at £80,000 in 1989, he sold up and used the equity to put towards a £135,000 fisherman’s cottage in St Mawes. Now it’s valued at 1.1m. “I was very grateful to Margaret Thatcher,” he said.¨
These policies are the reason for the enduring appeal of thatcherism/reaganism for many voters who are workers, even if thatcherism/reaganism policies also include cutting wages and salaries and pension and social insurance, because those voters gain much more with property profits than they lose otherwise.
These policies are being implemented with great zeal in the People's Republic of China by the Communist Party of China: almost all social housing in the PRC has been privatized by the CPC, and the CPC has invested massively in promoting car ownership (even if there has also been big investment in public transport, in particular trains).
Now the CPC wants to switch PRC pensions from defined benefit to share investment accounts, as reported by the right-wing USA organization "Council for Foreign Relations":
"Beijing is pushing Chinese citizens to plan for their own retirements. On December 15, Chinese authorities launched a national expansion of their two-year old pilot private pension pilot project. According to the state circular issued jointly by tax, finance, and human resource bureaus, citizens participating in either of the two primary state retirement systems are authorized to open private pension accounts."
The only possible rationale for these moves is that the Communist Party of China has become vigorously anti-socialdemocratic, anti-socialist and anti-communist and intends to create a large base of car, property and share owners committed to thatcherism/reaganism and right-wing policies. China-mainland has been switching to a thatcherite/reaganite system like China-Taiwan, China-HongKong, Singapore, and previously the USA, the UK, etc.; this will also discourage productive investment and greatly increase financial speculation and rentierism.
That is not surprising: my guess is that virtually all the officials of the Communist Party of China own one or more cars and also significant portfolios of properties and shares, and are determined to protect their investments from the possibility of social-democratic, socialist or communist policies, and since they are all educated in marxism they understand well what their class interests are.
It is quite ironic that the Communist Party of China is today the party run by and representing the interests of landlords and speculators, the same as the Republican and Democratic parties in the USA or the Conservative, New Labour and LibDem parties in the UK.

Doesn't the successful reunification with Hong Kong demonstrate the ascendance of whole process people's democracy / Xi Jinping thought and obsolesce the US's claims to Chinese Taipei?
Ooh, nice. I haven't had a Xi Jinping shill in a while.
What was demonstrated was that whole-process people's democracy is a sham, as evidenced by the large-scale protests which were crushed by the jackboot. There were no procedures or deliberations, the CPC decided that it was democratic and thus its word became law, proving it to be yet more insincere words. That's the hallmark of a dictator, who can always find a pretext for his tyranny.
The US stakes no claim to Taiwan, which you'd know if you actually studied the issue in question, or even read a basic press statement.
Also, trying to impress by using the rare verb obsolesce fails when I can tell given the spacing that you copy-pasted it.
While I do appreciate the novelty of a dyed-in-the-wool acolyte of Xi, I must ask that you try harder next time. Because outside of the fact that I haven't had one grace my inbox in a long time, your loaded question was feeble. But I eagerly await the issuance of another final warning.

Opinion?
In case it wasn't on the news (it's not a loud topic here either), PRC allegedly built a copy of governmental distric of Taipei, with further speculation that it's a polygon for training to eventually invade Taiwan.
IMHO the layout looks too specific to be a pure coincidence... but also too off to be the exact intended copy, unless the bottom map is itself altered. Shame that I can't estimate the scale.
Western news do like to make mountains out of mole hills when it comes to China and other rivals, but also it's not like they never say the truth, so it all boils down to how likely is PRC to start an invasion of Taiwan based on their interests. And that's basically what I am asking
In the chat I joked that it's just new Chinese "foreign" city for tourists
I mean, the CPC has stated in no uncertain terms that they intend to reunite Taiwan and the mainland. I don't see an invasion happening anytime soon unless the US is preoccupied or makes the first move.
Making fake cities is a known and proven tactic to improve military operations so it's totally possible that that's what that is for but like you said it's slightly off which kinda ruins the effect.

Here we go, the next big messy battle in Alaska over a fossil fuel pipeline. Pipeline versus wilderness, again.
Tumblr media
Excerpt from this New York Times story:
The geography behind a plan to ship natural gas from the North Slope of Alaska to Asia makes good sense. Alaska has vast stores of gas and is just a little over a week at sea from Asia, which has some of the world’s biggest importers of liquefied natural gas.
But those countries have long been wary of the enormous cost of building the infrastructure to make it happen. That has contributed to a decades-long standstill.
Now, Asian buyers are giving the Alaska natural gas project a second look.
Their pivot was driven not by a change in the underlying economics, but by an abrupt political shift in Washington, where President Trump is pressuring countries to buy more American energy and appears bent on tapping Alaskan reserves.
Under threat of new tariffs, officials and executives in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan are considering ways to participate in the plan called Alaska L.N.G. The $44 billion project involves constructing an 800-mile pipeline from fields north of the Arctic Circle to southern Alaska. From there, the gas would be cooled to liquid form and shipped to Asia.
In Japan, a state-owned bank and a government-backed energy group have been exploring whether to provide financing and investment for Alaska L.N.G., according to three people familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss plans that are in their early stages.
In Taiwan, the economy ministry said this month that the state-owned energy company, CPC, would be interested in buying Alaskan natural gas. South Korean energy companies are considering ways they could support the Alaska project by agreeing to buy gas or make upfront investments, one of the people said.
Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan are among a number of nations, including members of the European Union, that have expressed interest in buying more U.S. oil and gas to narrow trade gaps that put them at risk of U.S. tariffs. One factor in their calculation in how to placate Mr. Trump: Any contracts they sign to buy gas from Alaska L.N.G. are likely to commit them for decades.
Many see Alaska L.N.G. as a long shot. It’s not only expensive but would take years to build. The pipeline would have to traverse harsh Arctic terrain, making maintenance difficult. Given the ecological sensitivity of the state’s North Slope region, the Biden administration had issued a number of protections aimed at shielding it from drilling.

Though ideologically diverse, proponents of Taiwanese independence rely on an overlapping revisionist toolkit that elides the historical context of the unresolved civil war shaping the cross-strait relationship. Instead, China’s aspirations for national unity are cast in terms of imperialism and expansionism. The era of KMT martial law is erroneously invoked as precedent for authoritarian Chinese encroachment, obscuring the historical KMT-CPC rivalry and the role of the United States in supporting the military dictatorship. Meanwhile, the history of Japanese colonialism has been systematically revised as “benign” rule to form the bedrock for a non-Chinese local identity. Claims that Taiwan’s democracy has “voted out” reunification as a political pathway omit the crucial context that the island’s most vocal left-wing supporters of unification were systematically purged, jailed, and murdered under Japanese colonialism and KMT rule. Efforts to co-opt Taiwan’s yuánzhùmín, or Indigenous peoples, into the project of Taiwan independence rely on a similar level of obfuscation; despite the separatist camp’s appropriation of decolonial rhetoric, yuánzhùmín have historically been apathetic toward the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).2 In spite of these attempts to stake Taiwan separatism to a schema of ethnic difference, official demographics list 95 percent of Taiwan’s population as being Han Chinese, the majority ethnic group of the Chinese mainland.
More than seventy years since U.S. military leader Douglas MacArthur described Taiwan as an “unsinkable aircraft carrier” in the nation’s Cold War against China, Taiwan remains a crude asset for U.S. military realpolitik. It is the linchpin of the so-called first island chain that links the four hundred U.S. military bases spread across Asia and the Pacific and, crucially, home to the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the world’s largest advanced semiconductor chip manufacturer. Lofty narratives of Taiwanese independence thus ultimately fuel consent for militarization, intervention, and war while marginalizing anti-imperialist voices for diplomacy and peace. They also disguise the true intent of retaining Taiwan as a neocolonial outpost of Western empire in order to undermine China’s sovereign economic development. There is no “independence” in becoming a U.S. client regime entrapped in a capitalist world order. It would set a precedent for any country, large or small, that challenges U.S. hegemony to be balkanized with impunity. For the left to support such an outcome would be self-sabotage on an epic scale, regardless of the titanic politico-economic shifts on both sides of the strait since the Chinese Revolution of 1949.

The United States has always emphasized that sharing "universal values" is the basis for the United States and Taiwan in promoting economic, security and good governance. The "Initiative" covers all aspects of social life, called economic and trade negotiations, which is actually value export. The "cognitive operation" against Taiwan is intended to consolidate the "value alliance". The United States said to Taiwan that " the signing of the tax treaty will strengthen the economic relationship between our two countries, increase Taiwan's investment in the United States, and show to China that the United States will not tolerate the CPC's aggressive action against free and democratic Taiwan."

maintaining its fragile position in the web of inter-imperialist conflicts constantly threatening to break out into tac-nuke scuffles over which half of africa belongs to the EU is hard work. keeping the BRI going and free of sabotage is hard work. there's a constant diplomatic push and pull to prevent the entire world from erupting into some christian genocidal holy-war against china staged from the nation-sized military bases the US keeps on the korean penisula, japanese archipelago, and taiwan province. international politics and governance is fucking complicated and difficult and 90% of the reason people end up being anti-china is because they refuse to educate themselves on this fact. you're going to turn on the CPC, too, at some point, unless you go beyond this hopelessly naïve campism and start supporting marxism-leninism for its correctness, not just because you find yourself enraptured with whatever hardships happen to the celebrities of politics and art in the imperial core.
stop posting the 'do nothing, win' meme the PRC is doing so much fucking work

Taiqing Gansu research is full of harvest——
"Feel their happiness and satisfaction from the smile on their faces"
"When you enter the house, first look at the sofa in the living room, and then see if there is a computer, WiFi (wireless network), whether the kitchen is burning gas or stove, whether the bathroom is flushing toilet..." Speaking of his feelings of household research in rural Gansu, Taiqing Cai Mengxuan quickly listed a series of experiences to reporters.
The Gansu branch of the Central Cross-Strait Integration Development and Exchange Camp of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League was recently held. For four days, Cai Mengxuan and nearly 40 Taiwan youth campers enjoyed the magnificent scenery of the northwest of the motherland, and at the same time, they walked into the homes of local farmers who had been lifted out of poverty and became moderately prosperous, felt the achievements of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization of the motherland, and explored the mystery of the realization of this great process.
"I want to share this gain and emotion with everyone"
For many Taiwan youth campers, the theme of this exchange camp, "The Unique Advantages of the New Party System and the Vivid Practice of Democratic Supervision," can be described as unique, which has almost never been encountered in previous cross-strait exchange activities. At the opening ceremony, Wu Guohua, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, explained that entrusted by the CPC Central Committee, since June 2016, the central committees of various democratic parties have carried out democratic supervision of poverty alleviation in eight central and western provinces and autonomous regions with large poor populations and high incidence of poverty, and the counterpart of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League is Gansu Province.
"As a participating political party, we have not fulfilled our responsibilities, and in the past five years, we have gathered the strength of the All-Union League, carried out innovative work, and successfully completed the mission of poverty alleviation and democratic supervision." Wu Guohua said: Inviting Taiwan youths and Taiwan businessmen who are developing and struggling in Taiwan and other parts of the mainland of the motherland to come to this hot land is to share this harvest and emotion with you, and I hope that you can carefully observe, feel with your heart, think deeply, and pass on your objective conclusions and experiences to more Taiwan compatriots

You know I'm actually inclined to agree with you, after all the people creating these systems, the bourgeoisie, are completely motivated by their material interests, and those material interests are in direct opposition of the vast majority of people in the world, the proletariat, those who sell their labor power for wages. Yet I would hasten to say that individual people don't really matter at all, a single snowflake is nothing compared to a blizzard. Often times people who are upholding abhorrent systems do so because it directly benefits them, at least in the short term. The most prominent example actually of this school of thought is actually demonstrated by the treatment of the final emperor of China, Puyi, who despite being the head of an empire which oversaw the grossest management, the most spectacularly abysmal exploitation, and repeated immense incredible corruption in almost all levels of statecraft (also participating in a system of empires resulting in a collective millions of deaths over the course of Chinese history thanks to that grossest management and corruption). Was allowed to live a peaceful life after being returned to the people's public of China after the expulsion of the KMT the island of Taiwan (if the kmt won the Chinese civil war Puyi would have likely either been held by the Soviets indefinitely or he would have been shot). In fact despite being literally the epitome of all evil of all Chinese society in the eyes of the CPC, he was treated with kindness and was educated on the great tragedies of which he had been complicit, later expressing immense regret for his actions.
Yet oftentimes when I see people describe others as "evil" (especially in specifically those from imperialized Nations when they describe the imperial Nations) it is completely understandable why they would think that way, is a Laotian person exactly wrong for describing United States soldiers as evil because of the immense death and destruction wrecked upon their country and their people and their family and themselves during the bombings of the '60s? Many times also, the people who hold these positions of power are going to be in direct interest of maintaining these systems, often times when you see these systems try to be removed you're dismantled the people who uphold them resist, and this resistance causes violence against the larger amount of people, which is unacceptable.
The annoying thing about all that seemingly bullshit hippie nature connection shit is that it's absolutely true
there is no fundamental difference between you, me, a random person in a random country across the world, the fly that just landed on your house, the grass growing down the street, the fish you ate for dinner, and the bird that's sitting on my computer
everything on this planet is connected and everything influences everything else and we are all inheritors of this spherical-ish rock's collective 4.6 billion years of history
we are all the same, fundamentally, just with a few changes here and there over the course of countless millennia, and we all rely on each other. eating is just the flow of nutrients and energy through the biosphere. everything dies because the planet changes and before we figured out how to modify our behavior during our lifetimes genetic mutation was the only way to adapt to that change. everything evolves. everything feels. everything yearns.
there is no "us verus them" for anything - not man versus nature, not man versus man, not man versus deity
its just Us. Us and Us. There are some of us who insist there's a "them", and that's a problem. But ultimately, they are still part of the "Us"
so it sucks, but the minute you start seeing literally anything as "the enemy" instead of "someone who has been horrifyingly mislead, because the vast majority of beings on this planet just want to do what they think is the right thing" you've already lost the plot
there is no enemy
there is no evil
we made up evil to try and make sense of actions we couldn't understand
there is only our planet, and everything on it, and we are all connected, and we all have to work together
I know that goes against your deep primate instincts, because you have to have a little selfishness to survive and that's where that lives, and sometimes that selfishness requires hurting others or protecting yourself from hurt
but the burden of being the first species (probably) aware of all this means we have to try to ignore that monkey inside of our chests and remember that there is no enemy. there is no them.
there is only us.

They Said: "Your Organs Will Be Harvested In China"!! - YouTube
@MJ-cj1jz This organ story was from Falun Gong.    And Falun Gong said 400 million people died of COVID-19 and continued on...   🙂
As that THE most famous / popular journalist from Taiwan China said: He believes the CPC definitely took brains from Falun Gong members.
