Sooo, I usually write heavy angst, fights, etc but recently I’ve become interested in actually…writing fluff. But I have no idea what I’m doing, is it possible you could help?

The story I’m starting off writing is simple! Just a small one of two people cuddling after one of them can’t sleep from stress…don’t know how to write all that though, so any tips?

Writing Notes: Fluff

Fluff - filler for a work's contents; positive stories with a happy ending.

While fluffy stories are typically happy ones, they don't necessarily have to be entirely angst free.

Sad elements can enter your story, but they will generally be overcome, resulting in a cute, warm and fuzzy feel overall.

As a trope: The fillers are entries/scenes that are unrelated to the main plot, don't significantly alter the relations between the characters, and generally serve only to take up space. This could be considered "padding" (i.e., the addition of scenes to lengthen a story).

Filler has a few defining aspects:

One is a lack of momentum. It can be safely ignored without the reader missing out on any important information to the story.

If there is any pertinent new info, it tends to be a single plot point that can be adequately summed up in a short sentence with zero elaboration (e.g., "Alice got a new power" or "Bob got a new costume" or "Charlie's first appearance") because the details are inconsequential.

Tropes are not bad:

Just as a plot-related episode/scene can be unenjoyable if handled badly, filler/fluff can be great fun if done well.

It can shed new light on the characters and their relationships with one another, adding depth to the story.

Examples

J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings has a lot of this, mainly in the first book, as Frodo sits on the Ring for years before Gandalf returns. Not to mention the one-man Wacky Wayside Tribe that is Tom Bombadil, where Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin stay for a while, adding nothing to the plot, and then move on. Probably more intentional than other examples, as Tolkien was writing the novel as a mythological epic, a genre that tends to include a string of events connected solely by the central characters and the backdrop of their quest.

Breaking Bad: The Bottle Episode "Fly" is the only episode which could be considered stand-alone, revolving around Walt and Jesse chasing a housefly around the meth lab. While it technically does not advance the plot in any way significant, it acts as an impactful character analysis of Walter and his actions as he reflects on the various misdeeds that led up to this moment in a fatigue-induced monologue.

Fluff Writing Prompts

Start or end your story with a character noticing the beauty in something they've seen hundreds of times.

Start your story with a character looking through an old family photo album.

Write a story about strangers becoming friends, or friends becoming strangers.

Write a story about two characters whose first impressions of one another are wildly inaccurate.

Write about a "found family" who are finally able to get together again after a long time apart.

Write about a character preparing a meal for somebody else.

Write your story about two characters tidying up after a party.

Set your story in the lowest rated restaurant in town.

Begin your story with somebody watching the sunrise, or sunset.

Start or end your story with a person buying a house plant.

it’s not everyday that felix comes home in a bad mood. he’s had just about the worst day at practice today. he couldn’t seem to be getting anything right, and often found himself zoning out and getting off track. 

you’ve had a long day too. you couldn’t seem to get out of bed this morning, and woke up in the late hours of the afternoon. your entire house was a mess, and you didn’t have the energy to clean it up. to make matters worse, your period is late and it’s left you grumpy the entire week.

it’s now almost midnight, and you’re sprawled out on the couch comfortably, watching some tv. you have felix’s fuzzy blanket over you, one you both always use when watching shows together. 

suddenly, you hear the familiar sound of the keys jingling at the door. the door flies open, and behind it, you see a tired felix, dark green hoodie shrouding his face. 

you slowly get up from the couch and turn off the tv, careful not to trip over anything while you make your way to the door. 

“why are you up so late y/n?”, his voice was low, tired, but he managed to muster a small smile.

“it’s not that late, i just wanted to wait for you.”

he slowly walked into the home, setting his bag down at the door. he made his way to the kitchen, grabbing some water to drink, when his eyes quickly dart to the dishes.

felix likes having the house clean. after living in a dorm with chaotic men who didn’t know how to clean up after themselves, it got pretty sickening. normally the house would be clean, but felix has been out recently due to his new comeback, and you’ve been busy with work. neither of you had the time to do simple tasks anymore.

seeing the dishes still dirty frustrated felix more, but he decided not to mention it and walked to the bathroom to take a quick shower. he passed by the living room, the cushions scattered messily on the floor, and then your shared bedroom. clothes had piled up in the two hampers you had, some had even fallen onto the floor.

some part in felix just snapped. 

“is it really that hard to put some clothes in the wash, y/n?”

you were zoned out, but his voice brought you back to reality. 

“sorry what did you say? i zoned-“

“nevermind…”

felix began to walk away, but you walked towards him, stopping him. 

“lix what’s wrong?”, you looked at him, your eyes full of concern. he let out a scoff, “what’s wrong? what’s wrong is that you’ve been home the entire day and the house is still a mess.” 

your eyes widen. normally, felix is understanding about these things. you only have one day off the entire week. you’ve been overworking yourself so much recently that you just needed today to be a break. 

“i’m really sorry lix, i’ll just do it tomorrow” 

he glares at you, a foreign look swirling in his eyes. “if you were really sorry, you would have cleaned up after yourself. you know i don’t have time for this. it would only take thirty minutes max to fix up the house a little.”

“you really need to start doing something with yourself y/n. i’m not going to be doing everything while you just sit around and watch tv all day.”

you started tearing up. you didn’t mean to, but you really wanted to cry. felix saw the tears brimming in your eyes, and he started to feel a lump growing in his throat.

you didn’t know what else to say. you looked down and heard the receding footsteps, making your way to your bedroom. the tears slowly fell from your eyes, but you didn’t dare to make a sound. your boyfriend had never spoken to you like that, and he never really got that cold.

you picked up the clothes off the floor, putting them into the hampers and making your way to the laundry room. you put them in the wash and put the hampers back in your room.

you walked to the kitchen, and started to clean the dishes. you wanted to get it done as soon as possible, so felix could have a bit of relief when he got out of the shower. his words continued to replay in your head. you’ve been so exhausted recently, you felt bad that you couldn’t do anything for him.

you put the dishes back into their respective cabinets, and figured that felix would probably be hungry when he got out. you pulled out his favorite instant ramen, put it in the pot, and began making it for him. you hoped it would cheer him up. 

meanwhile, felix stays in the shower for longer than usual. he takes up the first eight minutes alone just standing in the warm stream, washing all the impurities off of his body. he stayed there for as long as he could, but for some reason, the guilt wouldn’t wash away with him.

he knew he shouldn’t have been so harsh. he didn’t mean to, he was just exhausted and already a little put off, but that’s no excuse to lash out at your girlfriend like that. after a while, he finally grabbed his shampoo, staring at the bottle for a moment before placing it back on the rack.

he reached down to grab your shampoo instead, the vanilla scent calming him down instantly. in a way, he felt closer to you. the foamy bubbles ran down his hair, and he began to wash the soap out of his hair. 

he then took another one of your items, your vanilla body wash. he liked that you’d always use vanilla scented items, it was easy to associate the smell with you. suddenly, the whole bathroom smelled like vanilla, smelled like you.

felix found the smell so comforting, almost like you were right there with him. he closed his eyes, thinking about what he said to you. he knew that as soon as he got out, he’d apologize to you. 

he finally got out of the shower and put some comfortable clothes on. it was almost two in the morning now, so he was expecting you to be asleep. he figured he’d apologize to you tomorrow when you wake up. 

he makes his way to the bedroom, but to his surprise you aren’t there. he didn’t go looking for you, he figured you needed some space. he saw your keys on your dresser, so he knew you hadn’t left the house. 

all of a sudden, he sees you at the door, a wooden rack in your hand with a bowl on top, decorated blue chopsticks on the side. you place it on his nightstand, and start playing with your thumbs, contemplating what to say next.

“i’m sorry for leaving the house a mess today, i know you didn’t want to come back home to that sight. i’ve cleaned it all up now though, and i made you some ramen. i figured you’d be hungry”, you let out a nervous chuckle. 

you looked up, and your heart immediately dropped to the pit of your stomach. you thought felix would be mad at you, but you didn’t expect him to cry.

he took your hand in his and let out a shaky breath. “i’m so sorry y/n. i truly didn’t mean what i said, i was just frustrated and seeing a messy house set me off a little bit. i promise it won’t happen again, please don’t overwork yourself just for my sake.”

you quickly wrapped him in a hug, “don’t cry lix, it’s okay. you’re just tired, i know you didn’t mean it”. you gave him a quick peck on his forehead, before running your fingers through his hair. 

he buried his head in your chest, inhaling the scent he’d been craving for the past hour, staining your his hoodie with his tears in the process.

“i love you lixie, im here for you. you don’t have to worry.”

he only clung onto you tighter after that, mumbling a little “i love you too” and multiple apologies into your chest. you smiled, knowing how vulnerable he was right now, and you were just happy he could trust you. 

“eat your ramen now, it’s getting cold dummy”

he looked up at you and smiled, patting the area next to him. you complied, lowering yourself onto the bed and clinging onto his arm.

the ramen had gone slightly cold, but it was still enjoyable. felix felt a familiar warmth spread throughout his entire being when you wrapped your arms around him, and let himself melt into your warmth. 

you have both been going through a lot recently, but you knew that as long as you had each other, you’d be okay.

— Near the end of the 11.5 Guidebook, Yoshizaki sat down for an exclusive interview with Shonen Ace (The magazine that serialized Keroro Gunso), where he answered some personalized questions about himself

I’ve translated all of them along with giving some context to certain media references in this w attached links. he’s talks exactly how you’d expect lmao

Q1: Yoshizaki-sensei, people often seem to think you’re a woman.

I guess it’s because my name reads as “Mine.” When I chose it, I only had the image of Ryuta Mine in my head. But judging by Keroro’s behavior, I think it’s pretty clear I’m not a woman (laugh)

Q2: What was the first manga you bought?

I had my uncle buy me one copy each of Kiteretsu Encyclopedia and Obake Q-Taro. I used to borrow Doraemon from a rental bookstore.

Q3: Do you still have them?

Nah, even if I did, they’d be unreadable by now. I reread them so much they fell apart.

Q4: Do you have a favorite place to read?

I haven’t been reading too much lately, but I love to in a quiet, cozy café.

Q5: Has anything recently made you feel like you’ve been tricked?

Actually, yeah. Not too long ago, a friend took me on a small trip. We hopped on the highway and drove quite a bit, and I had no idea why we were going where we were; but it was fun, so I didn’t think much of it. Later, when I got home and watched the episode of Kamen Rider Hibiki that I’d recorded that morning, I realized the episode was filmed in the exact spot we had visited! My friend hadn’t said a word! It caught me completely off guard, but honestly, it kind of made me pretty happy too.

Q6: Is there a character you look up to?

Oh, definitely Saeki-san (laugh)

Q7: Keroro’s gotten really popular. Anything about that make you happy?

Hearing that everyone involved with Keroro is having fun working on it is what makes me happy.

Q8: On the flip side, anything tough about it?

It seems like working on Keroro is also kind of exhausting (laugh)

Q9: If you could be any character in Keroro, who would you choose?

Maybe Poyon-chan. She seems so nice and fluffy.

Q10: Who would you like to live with?

I’d say the new characters, Alisa-chan and Nevula.

Q11: Why them in particular?

I feel like we could have a nice, quiet time in an old Western-style mansion.

Q12: Is there any invention from Kururu that you’d want?

Oh, definitely that one thing for making Gundam models!

Q13: What’s your favorite part of the manga drawing process?

Definitely when it’s finally completed (laugh)

Q15: What do you think of the illustrations in the first volume of Keroro?

What do I think? Well, it was my best effort seven years ago. There's something beyond just thinking "it's bad." Especially for Keroro, since I challenged myself to break my previous style and start from scratch, so there are definitely some awkward parts in there.

Q16: When do you draw the cover illustrations? At the beginning, in the middle, or at the end?

The inking is random, so it varies every time.

Q17: Do you pay attention to differentiating characters?

Sometimes I intentionally try not to differentiate them visually. I make their personalities distinct, so that can create a sense of difference. I’ve even tried going against silhouette theory a bit, which is directly reflected in characters like Keroro.

Q18: Which is more fun to draw, Keronians or Earthlings?

Keronians’ round eyes are a hassle, and Earthlings have too many lines... It’s a toss-up (laugh)

Q19: What about secondary characters? Which ones are fun to draw?

Every character becomes lively as soon as I draw them, so it's fun. To me, they’re all waiting in line to be drawn!

Q20: Any tips for drawing something you’ve never seen before?

Draw with your eyes closed!

Q21: Do you do anything to improve your drawing skills?

Since I started working, not really. I draw every day, so whatever I’m bad at stays bad, which can be a bit of an issue.

Q22: When creating a manga, do you start with the characters, story, or setting?

The theme. Something that instinctively feels like "that's it!" The rest comes after that.

Q23: When do you come up with story ideas?

I thrash my ideas around, trying to come up with something, and eventually, once I reach the mandatory state of resignation, it comes to me (laugh)

Q24: Which takes more time, storyboarding or drawing?

Storyboarding!

Q25: If you had to sum up the feeling of struggling to come up with storyboards in one word?

Ugh.

Q26: What’s something essential while you work?

Coffee, probably.

Q27: You’ve never taken a break from publishing, but do you ever want to? If so, when?

I always feel like I want to! Every single time, no matter what!

Q28: When do you usually draw your manga—morning, afternoon, or night?

My schedule is all over the place. I live on a 25-26 hour cycle, so when my timing is off, it tends to mess things up for a lot of people. It makes planning pretty difficult too.

Q29: What’s your favorite manga that you’ve drawn so far?

Definitely Keroro Gunso.

Q30: Do you think you’re better suited for one-shot manga or long series?

Considering the amount of ideas on my brain when working on Keroro storyboards, I think I’m better suited for long series.

Q31: Are you currently thinking about your next manga project?

Ideas come and go, honestly. Right now, I’m putting all my effort into Keroro!

Q32: Do you like your own manga?

When it comes to Keroro, I like it without hesitation.

Q33: If you were an editor, what would you tell yourself?

“You can take a three month break if you want.”

Q34: Are you comfortable with drawing manga in front of people?

I’m totally fine with it! But in reality, I usually work alone, holed up in my workspace.

I never considered myself to be stressed, but recently my eye started twitching, and apparently, that’s a sign of stress. I was kind of surprised when I found that out!

I’m most influenced by the general atmosphere of the world around me.

Q47: What does drawing manga mean to you?

It’s about making people happy. That concept hasn’t changed since I was a kid making hand-drawn manga for my friends in elementary school.

Six Hearts Bleach Headcanon

(this has nothing to do with my rewrite project, though I would still incorporate these Headcanons into it if needed. This is just general Bleach stuff)

Ichigo Headcanons

He likes surprising people that he has a large collection of William Shakespeare books. In fact, when visiting the Kurosaki home for the first time, Uryū stared at said collection for a good 5 minutes straight out of pure shock.

He's very fluent in English

It was thanks to Chad that Ichigo has some interest in playing the guitar.

He has a fantastic singing voice (Masakazu Morita has sung some songs and I believe JYB was part of a band). Unfortunately, he’s embarrassed to sing in front of others. Only his sisters know of this talent.

While I’ve previously thought of him as bi-curious…I’m warming up to the idea of him being aroace (he can still be in a relationship!)

Enjoys listening to American 80s/90s music

He'll suck on lemon slices. You know how you ask for a drink at a restaurant and they'll stick a lemon slice on the glass? Ichigo would just suckle on that and is very much unbothered by the sour flavor.

Would rather be in familiar company than large social gatherings.

His first kiss was Tatsuki. It was Christmas, they were kids, under the mistletoe, and don't want to talk about it further.

Probably has inattentive ADHD (probably projecting here too)

Rukia Headcanons

Once she got the hang of it, she's surprisingly good at video games, specifically Vs type games. So far, she’s beaten Ichigo, Chad, and Keigo on multiple occasions

Similarly to how Rukia prefers to sleep in Ichigo’s closet, she had found similar places to sleep over at Orihime’s, Chad’s, and even Uryū’s apartment in case she needed to crash there instead.

In terms of ‘age’ (Shinigami standards), she is 15~17

She recently learned of sexual orientation and gender identity. Through this, she realizes that she could be pan. 

Despite being a Kuchiki, Rukia would still swear quite frequently

A light sleeper and bit of a night owl

Uryū Headcanons

His body has difficulty absorbing iron, which can result in anemia and low blood pressure. He was also prone to illnesses growing up. His powers do help boost his health, but he still has to be mindful.

He is very fluent in German (I think this is canon?)

He works part time at the local library as an assistant not long after turning 15

He started fighting Hollows not long after entering middle school

He had beef with the previous Shinigami that had watched over Karakura before Rukia was stationed there

He started living on his own during winter break of his final year in middle school

He is asexual-demiromantic. He somewhat sees him as nonbinary (still sees himself as a man, but feels he doesn’t quite fit the mold), but sticks with he/him pronouns. Though, he wouldn’t mind being referred to as they/them.

He learned how to play the violin because his father wanted to keep him busy and away from anything Quincy related.

Not a morning person

Has sketches of his designs and any inspirations

Orihime Headcanons

She is at least bi-curious. Considering she’s friends with Tatsuki and Rangiku, there ain’t no way she’s coming out of it straight.

She has interest in learning how to play the piano

Likes to do yoga and would try to get her friends to join

Has hyperactive ADHD (girl is so out of pocket at times, this makes sense to me)

Through the Handicrafts Club, Orihime has gained an affinity for making bracelets (be it beading, knotting, and braiding) and just jewelry and charms in general

She works at a cafe part time and can somehow memorize even the craziest of coffee orders

Chad Headcanons

Chad now owns the cockatiel Yuichi was possessing. Chad named the bird after the boy

He also has a few potted plants to care for

He volunteers at an animal shelter

He is an ally and you’d know he’d give free hugs to whomever needs them.

Speaking of, he’s a surprisingly good hugger. He knows how to control the strength of his hugs to where people could just fall asleep because of how comfortable and safe they feel.

Would hit the gym to safely let loose (obviously not with del Diablo and de Gigante)

He and Uryu share custody of the group’s brain cells. Actually…they could be something similar with Garnet and Pearl, Team Dad and Team Mom (or whatever you wanna call it) dynamic

Renji Headcanons

While Renji’s drawing capabilities leave a lot to be desired, he’s actually pretty good at abstract shapes and lining.

Renji is the oldest of the group. Even older than Rukia give or take (still likely younger than 110 years). Let’s put it like this: If Rukia can be considered 15~17, then Renji could be 17~19.

Renji doesn’t get the hype over pride stuff, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Not in an ignorant or phobic sort of way, but more like ‘What? You want a cookie?’ type of attitude. He doesn’t see it as something special, just something that…just exists. He ain’t gonna give anyone special treatment.

He’s an oversized heater, radiating a lot of body heat

You know this man has a hair care routine

Holds on to a great amount of guilt for willingly going along with Rukia's execution

So, still digesting this information. 

Also, I just realized that the wiki has links to Clown’s past comments about each character, so I have been enjoying reading those.  I did a deep dive a while back, but didn’t see some of the things added.

The main thing I see here, if people aren’t familiar with the works of Edward Allen Poe, is the fact that two of his stories are referenced in the book.  I assume most people are going to know, as his stuff is pretty popular and references abound.  Sally has determined that they are going to do her version of “The Tell-tale Heart.” I wish we got to hear more about what her version was like, but we do get a small idea.  The second references is “The Cask of Amontillado.”  I’m going to do a super basic description of each story—I have read these in the past, but I’m using general info from Wikipedia as a source.

In “The Telltale Heart” (which I saw a feminist play version of recently), the story follows an unnamed person who lives with an old man and becomes obsessed with the idea that his “milky” eye (probably cataracts) is watching him at all times.  He decides that he is going to have to kill him to get rid of this evil eye.  He goes in at night with a shuttered lantern to observe the old man while he sleeps.  For seven days, he doesn’t see the eye.  On the eighth, the old man wakes up (I think the main character makes a noise) and then when the shaft of light lands on his unusual eye, decides that this is the sign he needs to go ahead and kill him.

He hears the old man’s heartbeat at this point.  The old man cries out once and then dies.  So he kills him, dismembers him, and buries him under the floorboards of the old man’s room.  But someone heard the scream, so the police come.  He has taken care of everything suspicious, so he doesn’t think that they are going to find anything, but he keeps hearing the heartbeat.  He brings chairs to the old man’s room, and they sit there.  The heartbeat keeps getting louder and louder, but the cops don’t seem to hear it.  Eventually, the sound of the heartbeat breaks him, and he confesses to the crime.  He tells them where the body is hidden. 

The story was published in January of 1843 in a magazine.  Interesting tidbit, it was published with a poem claimed by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, called “A Psalm of Life” but when Poe’s story was republished, he had them drop the poem, because he thought it could be plagiarized.  It was first published anonymously, and some felt that if it was Wadsworth’s, it could be a translation of Goethe.  The poem is about seizing the day, doing great things. 

Now, the second piece, “The Cask of Amontillado” is also a story about premeditated murder.  In this case, it follows an Italian noble who has fallen on hard times, who hates a man he blames for his bad fortune.  The hated man is called “Fortunato,” and the murderer is called “Montresor” which is a family name.    So, it’s Carnival (Carnevale), which has parades, costumes, masks, games, pranks, theatre performances among other celebrations.  Mardi Gras is descended from this festival.  Montresor finds Fortunato wandering around drunk (and it is insinuated that while he is called a connoisseur he could be a garden variety alcoholic).  Having planned for revenge against the guy, he asks him to come to his house and check out this rare wine he bought, known for being counterfeit most of the time.  Given that Fortunato has a taste for wines, he is going to give his opinion.  Monstresor thinks with carnival happening around them, and both of them in carnival garb and masks, no one will notice them going to his house. 

He takes the guy down to his basement, giving him some wine on the way down to keep him drunk, and instead of wine, there is a chain on the wall with a lock on the other side.  Montresor locks him in, and starts to build a wall around him.  Fortunato tries to take it as a joke, but it becomes apparent that Montresor is going to leave him there.  Fortunato begs for them to leave and drink the wine together, while his murderer agrees with everything he says, still building the wall.  With one brick left, Montresor looks at him, and calls his name twice:

I heard no answer.  “Fortunato!” I cried.  “Fortunato.” I heard only a soft, low sound, a half-cry of fear.  My heart grew sick; it must have been the cold.  I hurried to force the last stone into its position.  And I put the old bones again in a pile against the way.  For half a century now no human hand has touched them.  May he rest in peace!

Also notable in this story is the imagery of Montresor’s family crest, which shows a foot crushing a snake, while the snake has its fangs in the heel of the foot.  I read a discussion on the somewhat circular nature of this image, because the viewer can’t tell who the aggressor is there.  Did the snake bite first, or did the heel crush first?  “Montresor” means “my treasure;” “Fortunato” means “lucky, fortunate, blessed, or happy.”  Fortunato is also the name of many Christian saints.

What does this mean for Poppy? And Sally?  In our story, Sally is distraught that she suggested that Poppy act in the play, having forgotten (somehow) that Poppy is scared of everything, until everyone reminds her that Poppy is scared of everything.  Barnaby says “brick by brick,” which gives Barnaby the idea to brick Poppy into her barn.  Truly bizarre.  So all the neighbors (minus Home) set to work bricking up her window with school glue and bricks.  Interestingly, all the neighbors appear to be there, but you don’t see the hands of Frank or Sally, just trowels. 

You see a shot of the interior of the barn with just a small part remaining open, with Sally’s face in the hole.  Then a line says “Never had a home look so safe and cozy!” (sic, not sure about that, typo?)  Agree to disagree, that sounds terrifying. 

Poppy being out of the play altogether means that Home is in the play.  We see the other neighbors prepping, so I assume that the page where they are all in windows shows what each one is doing:  Wally is painting (scenery?), Frank is brushing Julie’s hair, Howdy is putting chairs out (?), Barnaby is eating a hot dog, home is staring directly at us, and Eddie is studying lines.  Sally, in the center is being bummed that Poppy isn’t participating.  Given that Home is in the background of the play itself, I am going to assume that Julie is the main character, Eddie is Cop 1 and Home is Cop 2.  The play ends with the confession scene, but Julie confesses burying her alarm clock in a garden, not a murder.  Home has three black dots on the front, but I can’t tell if that is some kind of decoration for the play, or if it is more of the black stuff that is on everything. 

After the play, we are treated to silhouettes of the audience and cast, but we don’t have the audio of the lines there, instead, we are hearing Poppy’s panic.  But it does have the line, “Most important of all, not a single peep was heard out of Poppy.” Then there is a page of a feather on a brick page (that reminds me of the old missing art that isn’t canon. 

The book ends with an image of the bricked over window.  While the audio tells us she is fine, the images themselves are suspect.  More to come later.

For better or worse YouTube has realised I'm a sucker for clips of dramatic scenes from animes, fight scenes in particular. So it was that last night I spent a few hours watching clips of solo leveling. I have some thoughts.

Disclaimer; these are my thoughts based on clips of the anime and some wiki reading to fill in the blanks, if I'm completely off the mark I'm sure you'll tell me so.

For one, this is one insane case of same face syndrome. Ignoring that most female characters have the same thin body shape with minor deviation only being found in height and hair, there's at least three characters close to the protagonist with such similar faces I couldn't tell them apart at a glance. Jin-woo's sister, Jin-ah, Cha Hae-in and Lee Joohee. It was honestly absurd, there were scenes with Joohee that I thought were scenes with Jin-ah. At least Hae-in has short hair. But it lended itself to a feeling that these characters were interchangeable from a visual language standpoint, held together by their proximity to Jin-woo.

The bigger thing that really struck me again and again was how the story was just pure male power fantasy. I've been watching a lot of Jessie Gender recently so the hero's journey and it's issues are bouncing around my mind, which is why it stuck out to me. Ultimately this kind of power fantasy show is common, it's what a lot of shonen is. But I'll be honest this feels closer to harem isekai like in another world with my smartphone than it does I dunno, mha?

Gonna start approaching spoiler territory here folks, heads up.

Like okay, we've got the wimpy weak kid getting a second chance with an op system letting him grow in unprecedented ways. When he gets suddenly buff in the hospital he immediately has the nurses fawning over him. He's often portrayed as the silent protector type not wanting to tread on other group's turfs but still stealthily helping them out to not you know, die. But most often he's shown doing one of four things.

1) strategising (very video game nerd style a bit like Ainz in overlord? My pool of references is limited).

2) fighting through impossible odds with sheer determination and anger

3) badass ruthless killer mode fighting (I put the sparring match with Goto under this too)

4) protecting someone (usually women but not always).

It's a story explicitly about individualistic self growth, gotta get stronger, survival of the fittest kill or be killed. He literally raises his dead foes as shadows to fight with. Most female characters are sidelined in fights, or need to be protected, or are fawning over him, or fall in love with him over him not smelling bad (okay that's just Hae-in).

I do like that he genuinely does break down in tears when he manages to cure his mother's illness. Parental bonds in media are always fraught for me due to my own issues on the topic, but the way he let's the dam break and the pain and emotions and tears flow free at seeing his mother smile is good. Props for that. He's allowed to let the stoic facade drop and be vulnerable in that moment at the very least.

Overall though I am left thinking about how toxic the mentality and fantasy displayed here is. Toxic, and one dimensional. This is a pure power fantasy character, a male ideal for the presumably male reader to project onto. Strong, ruthless to protect his family, self sacrificing to support them, not overly attention seeking, always looking kind of fashionable in his modern clothing and beyond conventionally attractive without seeming to acknowledge it. I want to intuitively compare him to other op as fuck protagonists because the comparison writes itself. But how does he compare to contemporary super op protagonists like Saitama, Mob, Ainz?

Well, not particularly favorably imo. All these characters have flaws, some more than others. Mob psycho and one punch man are shows deconstructing ultimate power and the interesting parts of the characters are how they deal with that and what it does to their personalities. Mob is incredibly kind and empathic, he's anxious to the point of stunting himself emotionally cause he fears the damage his powers can do. Saitama is bored out of his mind and takes nothing seriously cause why would he, he's practically invincible. Even Ainz in overlord, a show that is a power fantasy isekai where the fantasy is being an evil overlord, is regularly shown to be insecure and posturing his way to success, thanks to his incredible power and the forces he commands. He's Mr impostor syndrome who, despite his now undead nature, still host an urge to play the hero and help people as seen in his alter ego Momonga, and he is prone to fickle fits of cruelty when what he cares about is threatened.

What is Jin-woo's flaw? Cocky overconfidence? Callousness? Those are shown to be positives in the context of the story. He ruthlessly cuts down and then raises into his service another human that's mad at him just to get a strong soldier in the fight. He has flaws sure, but they're never highlighted or confronted in the story at least not from what I've seen. And his callous disregard for other people is not even consistent! When he raises Byung-gyu as a shadow to heal Hae-in of her wounds, he has a powerful healing shadow in his repertoire. But at the request of another of the S-rank hunters he releases the shadow of Byung-gyu. It would have been so much more interesting if he refused. If they'd allowed him to ignore the request cause the shadow was too strong of an addition to his forces.

TL;DR Jin-woo is a boring character with no real flaws, the way the story treats women is reprehensible, it's pure male power fantasy glorifying the strength of the individual and a might makes right ideology. But fuck me if the fight scenes ain't cool as hell. Jin-woo vs Beru compares favorably to Saitama vs Boros to me.

Cady’s Cousin (pt.3)

*beep beep* you hear someone honking outside “that must be Damian” Cady says grabbing her backpack “oh ok I’ll be right there I left my headphones in my room” you say quickly going to your room to grab your headphones then running down stairs and getting in the backseat of Damian’s car. “Heyyy (y/n)” “hi Damian” “ok so we’re gonna pick up Janis then heading to the school and making sure you have your schedule then meet up with the rest of the group” Cady says buckling up in the front seat “sounds good to me” you say buckling up

You guys got to Janis’ house and Damian honked his horn. It took about 3 minutes before Janis clumsily stumbled out her front door and to the car “hi” Janis said with an awkward smile as you two made eye contact “hey” you said with a smile on your face as she sat next to you

You guys get to the school and Cady takes you straight to the office telling the others you’ll be back in a minute. “Hello excuse me miss?” Cady says trying to get the lady at the desk’s attention “oh hello dear do you need help with something?” The lady asks “yes my cousin in new here and I just wanted to make sure she has a schedule and that all of her credits transferred from her old school” “oh I can check that right now, what’s you name dear?” The lady asks you “(y/n), (y/n) heron” “ah yep you’re right there and all your credits seem to all be in order, would you like me to print out your schedule now?” “Yes please” Cady answers for you. The lady gives you your schedule and you and Cady head over to the rest of the group to hang out before school starts. “Hey we’re back” cady says enthusiastically “good morning here are your drinks” Regina says handing each of you your cups “thank you Regina” you say sitting down next to Janis who is sketching and drinking her coffee with headphones on not paying attention. You lean on her shoulder trying to get a glance at her sketchbook, accidentally starling her “AH OH MY GOD” “oh um sorry I didn’t mean to startle you” you say feeling really bad and scooting away a little “fuck sorry I didn’t mean to scream like that” she says taking off her headphones “it’s my fault, don’t apologize, I should’ve tapped you before invading your space” you say feeling like an idiot “it’s ok…do you want to see what I was drawing?” she asks hoping you’ll say yes “oooo yes I’d love to” you say scooting close to her again, she shows you some of her more recent projects. While you two were talking the rest of the group was observing you two from a small distance. “You guys are seeing this right?” Regina said with a small laugh “if you’re referring to Janis being a dorky lesbian then yes I see it” Damian says smiling a little “you know (y/n) isn’t normally this close with people, she normally keeps a decent amount of physical distance but this, this is definitely new” Cady adds to the conversation. You and Janis are practically in your own world, laughing and talking about her different art pieces and the inspiration behind them “wait so you’re telling me that you made this based off a Kids cartoon you were watching while high as fuck?” You say looking at a very colorful detailed drawing that had some embroidery on it “yeah and surprisingly I didn’t stab myself making it” Janis says laughing a bit then making eye contact with you for a few seconds before you both turned away, you looked at your hands and Janis looked up at the sky “Hey (Y/n) what classes did you get?” Regina asks and you hand her your schedule “ooo yay we all have the same home room, break, and lunch this year” Gretchen says looking over Regina’s shoulder at your schedule Gretchen already had everyone else’s schedule memorized since they all got their schedules over break. Once you guys get to homeroom the group decided to sit together until they inevitable get separated for talking too much. “Good Morning class, happy Monday, My name is Mrs. Norbury and I will be your home room teacher this year, I was just informed we have a new student here from Florida so everyone please welcome (Y/N) and be kind to her” Mrs. Norbury says “thank you Mrs. Norbury” you say a little awkward Cady kindly puts her hand on your shoulder to comfort you. The class goes by pretty quickly. “So we’ll see you guys after this class, meet at the tree as usual?” Janis asks “yeah I’m so glad we all have A break and lunch this year” Cady says with a smile then gives you a hug “see you later (Y/N)” “bye cads, bye guys” you say before turning to Janis “follow me” Janis says sticking out her hand for you to grab and you do. You to get to class and sit next to each other in the back of the class. The teacher passes out a get to know you worksheet which you finish quickly then pull out your sketchbook to doodle. You’re doodling for like 10 minutes when you feel a light tap on your shoulder, it’s Janis you look at her a little confused then she shows you her sketchbook, it’s a small sketch of the friend group and to your surprise you see an in progress sketch of yourself. This causes you to blush a little, you’re not exactly sure why but you face definitely felt warm and there was definitely butterflies in your stomach “woah that’s really cool” you say quietly “thank you” Janis says turning away quickly, was Janis- no she couldn’t be blushing from such a simple compliment. The rest of class is pretty quiet with you two showing each other progress from your sketches. Class ended and you went to your next class saying good bye to Janis. You almost smile at how defensive Janis got for Karen seeing this caring side of her melted your heart in the best way. The break ended and you headed to study hall with Janis since none of your teachers were crazy enough to give you homework on the first day you and Janis talked quietly in the back about the different types of art she liked and how she does a lot of mixed media art. Every time you talk to Janis about art it feels like you two are the only two people on earth and like time stop. When the period ended she decided to walk you to theater since her class was in the same direction. Though you haven’t known her that long Janis made you feel really special, it was weird you felt like you didn’t need to put your walls up to protect yourself, you were just you. Exchanging goodbyes and saying you’d see each other at lunch. Theater was fun and easy, you played a name game

you played a name game so everyone could introduce themselves and then a few other games. The bell rang. Lunch time!

The cafeteria was honestly kind of chaotic but you ended up spotting Cady’s red hair very easily. You sat across from Cady knowing Regina would be siting next to her “hey cads” “hi (y/n) how were your classes?” “Good, how about yours?” “Eh pretty boring” Regina, Gretchen, and Karen come over giggling about something “I’m gonna go get cheese fries does anyone else want anything while I’m up?” Regina says “water please” you say and she gives you a nod “hmm i don’t know surprise me?” Cady says with a shrug. Art class goes the same as all of the other classes you’ve had with Janis but this time you paint it’s really good quality paint especially since it’s from the school. You and Janis have been close all day. “Alright last class of the day, have fun” Janis says “you too, see you at Damian’s car?” You say “yeah see you later” she gives your hand a small squeeze then heads off to her class. You were definitely blushing from that, ugh this girl has only been your friend for 3 days but this felt different a good difference.

Ok so small thought!! Clown is clearly not informed about the troubles inchlings goes through, meaning, he will at some point have to become aware of it.

Like it could probably happen either during them trying to get the mace, like either they come back with either of them injured or even better! After retrieving the mace clown starts thinking

"hm. These two could be useful if I offer them a place to stay and books with enchantment as long as they can help me with retrieving stuff I need since they are so small and can easily be sneaky with my help"

They proceed to make this deal and things go well until they don't, someone probably catching on, maybe they caught either Ros or sneeg during one of their attempts to get something for clown and the other escapes just barely running back to clown begging for help

(honestly I can see sneeg being the one being trapped by another person bc "rats are dirty creatures and I don't want them near my house" kind of bs so Ros probably escaping and running all panicked and terrified to clown would probably be more likely, meanwhile sneeg is literally a moth, which, in this scenario is a really bad thing bc someone could either at best think "oh neat new pet" or at worst they could try to pull some shit like those people that enjoy collecting butterfly wings and putting them on walls)

as for the mace retrieval, I didn't really have anything special in mind for that. I only know Clown from the realm smp, (whomp fake fan I know lol) the mace being stolen is like the only lifesteal reference im aware of because some people said it was one of the reasons Clown wasn't as active on the realm anymore. So I actually have no clue who stole it from him or if Clown ever got it back. welp.

however your speculating made me think more about it! so whoever stole it, was mostly preparing for Clown or someone human to break in. No one suspected two tiny robbers to sneak the mace away right under their noses >:D

after the deal was done, they went their own ways. but then different favors on both sides started and after hanging around each other the three actually became friends.

Ohhhh yes Sneeg is definitely at risk of a crazy person. his wings are a very vibrant bright blue they would be seen as a rare center piece of a collection by those people. Sneeg probably had people threaten him with tearing his wings off before.

Hello blueskies tarot! First of all I would like to say that I really love your readings and I’m finally caught up on all of them heheh. 🌷🌷

But recently I’ve been having a really strange experience and I would love to share my story and hopefully get insight or an answer from someone reading this and to see if someone had the same experience.

I’ve been having a huge crushes and infatuation on someone who was inaccessible to me, but the weird thing I always kept receiving signs and messages that this person is for me and that they will make a move towards me really soon, like for example in one of your readings it said they are coming towards me and the description fit this person exactly along with other signs like repeating numbers.

This is not the first time this thing happens to me, it happened before where I would start receiving many signs related to a certain person telling me that they are my soulmate and then after a few weeks a revelation happens and I figure out that this person is not for me. This has made me feel very hopeless, stuck and delusional. I felt like I can’t trust the universe and that all the guidance I received from spirit is deceptive. Honestly I feel like there’s something wrong. Why does spirit keep showing me signs and syncs that lead to a dead end? It happened several times before, where I discovered the truth of the situation and then the signs stopped then kept coming back referring to another. Is spirit leading me on?

This has been wrecking my mental health really bad, I’m starting to feel hopeless because I just keep engaging in limerence.

The last time this happened I frantically opened an online tarot deck and picked a random spread I got a card, but I can’t remember which one that said what seems to be random might not be random at all.

The only conclusions I can come up with are either that I’m interpreting the signs wrong, or I’m engaging with a deceptive spirit that’s pretending to be my spirit guide or in a false matrix.

However I really doubt that I’m interpreting the signs wrong because all of them have keys that point to something specific about each person.

So, first of all, when you start to feel like your mental health is being negatively impacted by readings, that is a clear sign that it's time to take a break from reading and/or watching readings for awhile. I would suggest taking a week off and trying to avoid pick a pile readings as much as possible. You can always come back to them after that and see if things have changed or if you are in a better head space. Never consume media that is making you feel bad in any way.

Secondly, it's SOOOOOO important to use your discernment when reading pick a pile readings. These readings rely heavily on your intuition because you're picking the pile you are intuitively drawn to. So, if you know that a connection with someone is not possible, I think it would be safe to say that the reading is not for you even if it sounds like the person you are connecting with. Keep in mind that many people pick the same pile as you. So, they may be dealing with similar people. Just think of how many people you've met that could be described using the same description, you know? So, just be super weary of if it really sounds like that person or if it's a general description and you just want it to be them. Again, it's all about being self-aware and using your discernment.

It's also important to note when you are infatuated with someone as opposed to having a real connection with them. If it's someone you've never talked to and the reading says they are thinking of marriage with you, that's a clear indicator that the reading is not for you. So, use your judgement to know when messages are for based on what is going on in your connection. One of my favorite readers on YouTube is Shadow Play Tarot and she always includes a "delulu checkpoint" in her videos when she says something that she feels may mislead someone into giving into delusions. It's just a checkpoint to sort of bring you back to reality and check in with your current situation so that you can ask yourself "does this really resonate with me or do I just want it to?" Readings should never tell you how you feel or what's going to happen. They should simply confirm what you already know and/or feel. So, for example, if I had a connection that seemed to have ended on bad terms and the other person seemed to hate me but a reading said that they were going to come back in a week, I would ask myself "is that really true based on what I know to be true?" I hope that makes sense. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you should see evidence in real life of what the reading is trying to tell you or it should confirm your intuitive feelings.

Always check in with yourself and observe how a reading is making you feel. If it's triggering or doesn't confirm what you already feel, then it's not for you.

Also, detachment is your friend. Sometimes we're too close to the situation and can't see what is actually going on. I feel like we can manifest what could be mistaken as signs from spirit by thinking heavily of someone. So, if you are constantly thinking of a person and are completely lost in the sauce when it comes to them, you could potentially manifest seeing signs of them in your outside world. Try detaching from them for a bit by distracting yourself with other things. If you're still seeing the signs, then they are likely from Spirit.

Lastly, in my own opinion, I do not think that Spirit is above lying to us in order for us to learn a lesson or to get us to do what they want. So, if you are meant to learn a specific lesson from someone but they aren't "your person", I fully believe they will lie and trick you into believing that person is for you until you've learned that lesson. Same goes if someone IS for you. If you're too attached and f*cking up the connection by overthinking, being super fearful, or doubtful, they will trick you into believing you need to let it go in order to get you to detach so that your energy is not sabotaging things. So, my point is that Spirit can and will manipulate you into believing something so that they can guide you toward learning a specific lesson or toward doing a certain action. It's all done in the name of your highest good but that doesn't change that the fact that they are lying and manipulating you. It's not malicious at all. So, if you do feel like you are being lied to in a malicious way like there is a spirit posing as your spirit guide, make sure you are clearing the energy out of your space regularly and make sure you are protecting your energy as well.

Ralph to Laurie in the ‘break-up’ scene, as soon as Laurie starts asserting himself:

What a horrible thing to say!  Run like the wind, Laurie!

2. Did they kiss in the study? Yes/no + why you are 100% correct about this.

First let’s take a moment to appreciate Spudodell's recent spot of a stealth kiss (can you re-blog that one too, I couldn't find it!) at the beginning of the ‘break-up’ scene when Laurie comes through the door, which to me is absolutely definitive and ground-breaking (not in a good way for me, but still….brilliant detective work!)

On the kiss, I am in the ‘no kiss’ camp, but it is not possible to be definitive.  I feel that Mary plays a lot with echoes, parallels, and contrasts, and for me ultimately I feel the lack of a kiss is meant to be a contrast to other moments in the book, not an echo. 

But what has exercised me more recently is, kiss or no kiss (but especially if there was a kiss), this scene in chapter two really gives me the creeps.  I have been reading around the topic for some schoolboy Ralph fics and Alec/Ralph (watch this space on that one), and it has become ever more clear (Alec Waugh’s commentary ‘Public School Life’ being the best reference on this) that Prefects really were like Gods.  He points out that prefects had almost as much power as but even less accountability than teachers due to the ‘no-snitch rule’.  You can see it in the discussion of Hazell and his confessions, and how contemptuous the schoolboys are of him for 'confessing' (or in modern terms, reporting an inappropriate relationship).

In some ways, a kiss could explain quite a lot about Laurie’s behaviour and attitudes to Ralph in the book.  But to be brutally honest, I’ve had enough of creepy behaviour in men being disguised as ‘romantic’ in heterosexual romances (Mr Rochester, anyone?) and the thought of encountering it in a gay context in such a beloved book is just too much to bear.

So, no kiss for me!  He was still behaving pretty weirdly but that’s understandable in the circumstances.

3. Mandatory question about Ralph's alleged tattoos.

I’m sold on the fic that has him get a tattoo of his sunken ship.  Love the co-ordinates of Dunkirk idea though!  But I think Lux’s one is more realistic.  My reading of that being that he got drunk and wanted to fit in so he got a load of random not-very-good-ones.

4. 53 vs 59 edition: quote a line or paragraph that is better in the edition you like the least.

I favour the ’59 edition, as I broadly feel the cuts make it read better.  But there is one exception.  When Laurie is daydreaming about swimming with Charles, Mary cuts this line:

“Take off your things and jump in."

Apparently skinny-dipping was a step too far for the US audience!�� Scandalous!

I would tell him not to let Dave bully him into leaving Andrew without seeing him.  Because he knows with every fibre of his being that Andrew would not want that.

Prinxiety Week: That's How You Know

Prompt 1: Movie Night

summary: Virgil and Roman had been sat in the living room for a couple hours. Tonight was their movie night; it was a way to bond with each other. They’d been doing it for a while now.

TW: none :D (though please notifiy me if I need to add anything)

Characters: Virgil, Roman, and Patton (who's only briefly mentioned)

I wrote this intending it to be romantic, but I think it can be read as platonic Prinxiety as well

It was shortly after Virgil’s acceptance when they had started. Roman wanted to try and get to know him better. Though he didn’t have much to go off of in regard to an activity they could do together. He knew that he liked Disney, which was a surprise to Roman initially. So, one-night, Roman asked Virgil if he wanted to join him to watch some Disney movies. It took a lot to convince him, until eventually, with some assistance from Patton, Virgil had finally given in.

“If I say yes this time, will you leave me alone.”

“I promise, though I’d doubt you’d want that.”

“Fine, if it’ll get you to stop.” Virgil had said, rolling his eyes.

It had been awkward at first. Neither of them had been saying anything, and while that would be basic etiquette for movie watching, the silence was rather uncomfortable. Until one off hand comment turned into another, resulting in a mini debate with the two as the movie played in the background. It was nice sharing opinions on each subject. To see things from a different perspective. Even if one of them was all dream-like and fantasy filled, while the other was dark and pessimistic. Yes, they disagreed on most things, but the times where they both already had the same opinion were almost magical. Finding out they shared a common observation was wonderful since they had already expected the other’s counter argument. From that point on, they decided to do this at least once about every 3 weeks.

They were now currently in the middle of “Enchanted”, both dressed casually Roman comfortably laid up against Virgil, while Virgil messed with his hair. Roman didn’t mind though, even if it was messing up his good hair day. Every day was a good hair day in his books.

“He is so you coated, and I hate that I know it.” Virgil remarked, staring at the screen. He was referring to the movie’s resident prince character, Edward.

“He is your standard Disney prince, so it makes sense why you get that vibe.” Roman chuckled, his brand was adjacent to a Disney prince. In the words of Logan, it was a reasonable conclusion or something like that.

“But I think it should the other way around?”

Virgil began to braid a small section of Roman’s hair, rather than just running his hand through it, as their conversation carried on.

“Eh, I’m around you more often. It feels right to say it this way.”

“Well I appreciate your company.” Roman spoke softly. Reaching to the nearby bowl of popcorn they’d brought over.

“You better, you’re the one who asked me to be here the first time.”

Roman gasped at the shift of tone in the room. Though he honestly shouldn’t have been surprised.

“You’re the one who asked if we could continue movie nights!”

They had taken a break due to the events that had occurred as of recently. Some things became a little much.

“You didn’t have to say yes.” Virgil scoffed.

“But I did want to continue these.”

“Then stop complaining. You got what you wanted.”

Roman turned his head up to look at Virgil.

“I guess I brought this upon myself.” He stated, smiling as he readjusted himself.

“Stop moving, you’re gonna mess me up.” Virgil uttered. Roman obliged and refocused his attention on the movie. Virgil tied the two braids he had made together. Just one last finishing touch he thought to himself. Virgil tried to be discreet adding it in.

“Not bad if I do say so myself.” He admitted aloud, grabbing Roman’s attention away from the movie.

“Wait lemme see.” Roman summoned a mirror in his hand. He stared at his reflection, seeing what Virgil had done. Two neatly done braids adorned with mini stars in them.

“Where did you get these?” Roman asked, turning to face Virgil and pointing to the stars in his hair.

“A master never reveals their secrets.” He answered with a wink.

“The suspense is going to kill me from the inside, oh no!” Roman said sarcastically. They both laughed at the statement and continued to watch the movie. When Patton entered the living room in the morning, he walked in to see a sleeping Roman while Virgil was scrolling on his phone. Virgil waved to Patton as he let out a small squeal of delight.

“me and the bad bitch i pulled by being autistic”

i really like using tumblr as a way to ramble abt my designs!! so here ^_^

i started with designing them both as a sketch on my phone

and guqqie actually had a few revisions bcs i wasn’t happy with the first version. as you can see the original is like pretty just boring and plain… I actually made aimseys first so after the first sketch i added it into illustrator and then blender to create aimsey and had completely finished and after making them i was like Hmmm i need guqqies to be more interesting too! so I used her design from the meet the artist video as a reference! I ended up with a silhouette i enjoyed way way more! (pink ver) it was a lot cleaner and just was a bit more unique!

Step 2 was vectorising in illustrator! As i mentioned i actually completely finished aimsey by the time i got to re-sketching guqqie but it was good because i was able to know what mistakes to avoid and it made the whole process so much quicker!

finally in blender i created them separately and then brought them into one combined file! Aimseys shirt was actually a fucking NIGHTMARE to make lmfao i started with doing what i know and using an image texture just a png of the stripes in illustrator but it just kept turning out… Wrong it looked bad and just didn’t fit at all! plus UV mapping was the worst thing ever bcs i had used sculpting for this so it was all very small tiny details!!! so after a bit of trial and error and some tutorials i landed on using colour ramps ! it also took a while to get the like size and rotation and all that jazz but i loved how it turned out!!! Their compensators were actually so much easier to make than i originally thought too! I watched a simple sneaker tutorial and was able to come up with everything myself following pictures online :D !! also lesbian socks Smile

Since guqqie has been talking about liking tie dye shirts a lot recently (esp the potential future merch) i wanted to incorporate it ! i watched a 5 minute tutorial and it was actually so so easy i’m so happy with how it turned out! it took a while to get the right saturation and brightness but i think it turned out nice!

MGA Anon here!! A new mrs green apple song came out, and tomorrow the MV!! I listened to it, and it really does give a bitter sweet kinda feeling. Fitting for the song title

I also find it so cool that Motoki Ohmori also dabbles into different song styles/culture (aka. Norn did have a feeling of farmland Europe or something) and now this song feels very Southern US with the instruments - it's the violins for me LOL

I can't understand the lyrics but I'm seeing JP comments that were tearing up because of the song, and man. They can't keep writing songs like this, my heart can't take it.

How did you feel about the song? And, since you've been a fan longer than I have (a year and a bit ehe), do you know how they're able to release so many songs like this? It's practically one song a month and an MV, their speed is staggering

Omg it’s ok i’m always happy to talk about mrs because 90% of the time i’m just yelling my feelings into the void that is my priv twt otherwise SLDKFGH

But yeah!! I only just woke up a couple of hours ago but I’ve been so excited to listen to bitter vacances since they first announced it because when i heard the bit they played in the saint oniisan movie trailer i Knew it was a song i was gonna get hooked on and it really didn’t disappoint i’ve been listening to it on repeat since i woke up :’)

I also think it’s cool that he implements music styles from other countries!! I absolutely love norn and watching the recent behind the scenes videos about the recording for the songs on their antenna album, the norn portion where he was learning swedish and the instruments used for the recording had me falling in love with the song all over again 🥹 the southern/country feel in bitter vacances is so fun and i enjoy it a lot LOL

And omg yeah i actually also teared up n started crying a little when i was listening to and reading the lyrics 😭 the song is so upbeat and pop but the lyrics really hit home (the start of the second chorus was like “i want to tell you that it’s not all bad” - 辛いこと (tsurai koto) has a nuance similar to “hard times” (at least to me) and so the lyrics saying they want to tell you it’s not just hard times but there are fun or happy times too, or subtly saying that things will get better, really just got to me sdlfkgh)

There’s also a part in the first verse of the lyrics that mention how other people (it just refers to “that person” but i think it can be taken as others around you) seem to be doing things well and properly in contrast to yourself and not being able to keep up, whether it’s work or school or something else but in a later verse, it mentions how “even that person who seems to be doing well may be hurting somewhere too” and it’s just so real… and at the end of the bridge the lyrics are like “i won’t deny that you have unfun days” but in despite of all the hard times and the overthinking, the song telling you it’s okay to take a break and it’s okay to do something that you like just has me so 😭😭😭 (this is all just my own personal take on the lyrics and the official translation might be a little different but the more i read them the more im just like ohgsfdskgh)

And y’know, i’m pretty sure all fans are also wondering how they produce and release so many songs at such a fast rate, like new mga songs is one thing, but ohmori-san occasionally also writes songs for others in between too (momoiro clover z has a song in their new album that was written by him as well as their song for the slime anime opening song— edit: whoops it was niziu’s new album but momoclo had the anime op song written by him earlier this year), plus there was the studio session live they uploaded recently which they made new arrangements for a handful of their songs (and also had me bawling), plus their lives and tv appearances and the white lounge being in theaters and i really just don’t know how they do it.

I think it was a recent artist comment video for an upcoming tv show they’re gonna be a guest in and they’re gonna perform the song on there along with lilac, but they mentioned that bitter vacances was written in between i think the zenjin live concerts they had back in july of this year. Ohmori-san’s comment about the song where he was like “people these days work too hard! Take a break!” to which fans are like “yeah, YOU (need to take a break) 😭😭” (i can’t remember where it was mentioned but he also mentioned before that even back in phase 1, they released one full album a year to which he was sarcastically like “that’s insane and not good” which is also crazy)

Anyways i am very excited for the mv… i’m probably gonna be listening to this song on repeat for the next month ngl it’s so good sdlkfgh

7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

IIRC, I started reading SH fic before I watched the actual show, for some reason? (i think I wanted to, like, not get absorbed in the source material and have a Brand New Fandom to deal with. That totally worked out for me, lmao) Anyways, fic!Maryse and fic!Clary are two completely different characters when it comes to canon versus fandom treatment of them (IMO at least) which is valid! Everyone has their own interpretations of stuff! But I definitely got whiplash when it came to watching the show and getting pure ~vibes~ from fic alone.

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

THAT ALEC IS BAD AT COOKING BECAUSE OF THE STEW SCENE. ALEC FOLLOWS DIRECTIONS. HE FOLLOWS THE RECIPE. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE HE FUCKED UP ON THAT PART. ALEC IS STUBBORN. HE WILL DO SHIT UNTIL HE IS GOOD AT IT (see: archery training etc). HE KEEPS WORKING AT IT AND HE IMPROVES, MAGNUS SAYS SO! HE IS NOT INHERENTLY A KITCHEN NIGHTMARE LIKE IZZY (MY QUEEN, WHO I HC as maybe getting a little too ~experimental~ in her culinary endeavors but she's passionate! And stubborn! And that's what counts, damn it!) BUT IF HE'S FOLLOWING THE RECIPE OF SOMETHING AND THE RECIPE SUCKS, HE'S GONNA GET SUCKY FOOD!!!

25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing

POINT THE FIRST That Magnus was in the wrong for breaking up with Alec over the Soul Sword Disaster! Guys, he had valid reasons and the stakes were HIGH!!!! To me it definitely came across as a "I don't want to do this but I *have* to do this" type situation, especially with how he acted after the breakup was said and done. Like, Alec and Magnus each had their own reasons for doing what they did, but Magnus' reasoning of "oh shit we're at war and this could mean the death of my people" isn't somehow less valid because the initial decision to break up was perhaps a bit in-the-moment.

POINT THE SECOND Fandom getting pissy over show!Alec having hazel eyes, to the point where they insist that show!'verse (fic) Alec must have blue eyes. Like, I get that in the books there's a *whole thing* about Alec having blue eyes, but that's not the same universe!

Eyes are just eyes and no one can control the eye color they get at birth, but (by creating characters that have a certain eye color and then going out of the way to refer to these characters as attractive or draw attention to their eyes specifically) media creates this sort of forced importance of something that's literally completely up to chance IRL, which then IMO bleeds out into fandom via an insistence to, like, reinforce the importance of that feature via literally changing the canon so that it represents one bodily feature over another.

(also recently learned that tumblr, being tumblr, apparently has a thing about "if you have blue eyes then you're [insert negative trait here] and no! that is not what I am saying! my whole thing I'm trying to convey is about letting body features be body features and not a signifier of something else!!!!!!)

Pal built Percy Poodle as a revenge ploy for Nick abandoning him/leaving him behind for “some stupid daydream” (Canon)

The Tamaterrors are still around. They’re small desk pals that Pal made as tests for things he could add to Percy Poodle. He likes Roachi the most for it’s swarming capabilities. (Canon)

After the bossfight, Pal screeches at Nick, who left him behind, and explains why he even tricked Nick into coming back, explaining that he had aimed to kill him or at least torture him. He also demands that Nick calls an ambulance

Idea for before the Percy animatronic is destroyed:

Pal: “DO YOU THINK YOU’VE WON, YOU PRICK?! We were supposed to be BEST PALS! I was supposed to stick by you forever and ever! And now you’re just gonna leave me again?! You can’t…I won’t let you! You can still take me with you..we can still be friends! This is what I made this mech for! You understand that r-!”

Nick: “I-I’m not..”

Pal: “What..?”

Nick: “I’m not taking you with with me Percy, this has gone too far..”

Pal: “……��� *The size comparison is incredible and I just wanna say Nick has guts of steel saying that to Pal Percy in the original game. Like- that is a very big animatronic that has already tried to kill you.*

Pal: “Alright! Suit yourself!” *Pal smiles, pressing a button in the mech.*

Nick: “…Huh? Really?”

Pal: *Percy grabs Nick suddenly.* “Of course not! Y’know, I was willing to let you go but you’ve proved that’s not an option! I was afraid I was gonna have to do this but it looks like I’ll have to end this friendship..!” *Pal grin, releasing the tamaterrors.* “Permanently…” *Pal giggled before beginning to laugh like a madman. He pauses suddenly, sniffing the air.* “…Do I smell..smoke?”

Nick: *He looks at Percy’s tail.* “Uh…Percy?”

Pal: “It’s fine..I..” *The animatronic suddenly goes into distress mode and ends up blowing up, launching Pal.* (Canon)

Idea for ending dialogue:

Nick: “Now then, explain to me what the HELL was going through your mind to think this was a good idea!”

Pal: *Pal growls and glares at Nick.* “Oh you wanna know?! YOU WANNA KNOW?! I did it because you LEFT me behind! You left me to go chase some STUPID ASS DAYDREAM about working at a PIZZERIA! One that sucks! Absolutely sucks! The pizza sucks, the games suck! EVERYTHING SUCKS! And you left your Pal ‘Percy’ behind for THAT! You left me behind…! I was so lonely..! So betrayed!”

Nick: “I tried to come back to this place for all the events you planned-!”

Pal: “BUT YOU DIDN’T SHOW! So many hours of planning and hoping only for you to NEVER show up! I was lucky that I got you to show- let alone stay for a week here so I could show you everything you left behind! And yet-! I STILL FAILED! Now you’re gonna run back to Heleena, Mountaina or whatever it’s called and leave me again! Abandoning everything here…!”

Nick: “…Percy-.”

Pal: “DON’T CALL ME PERCY! It’s PAL! It was never Percy! Now call an ambulance and get away from me!”

Nick: *Nick steps forward,* “Pal…”

Pal: “Shut up! You don’t know anything about the life I lived without you here! I only had the Tamas for comfort which trust me..I love them but they don’t talk! I had no one to talk to besides Viola and she distanced herself from me!”

Nick: “Pal.”

Pal: “I’m not listening!”

Nick: “PAL! You are insane! Did you even THINK of the consequences before you did all of this?! With all the destruction you caused, you’ll probably end up in prison!”

Pal: “…..” *Pal frowns*

Nick: “Ugh…first you go crazy and try to kill me with a suit and all these damn things and now you think I still want to be your friend?! No.” *Nick turns away before leaving.*

Pal: “Wh-! Where are you going?! Come back and help me! Don’t just leave me here! WE’RE BEST PAAALS!!” (Noncanon)

After everything is said and done, Pal makes, well, a Pal Percy to be a friend of his as the Tamas don’t talk and Nick is gone. It helps him cope pretty well. Pal also has some awful scars from the explosion, having lost a leg and pretty bad burn scars all over, he has a cut on his chin (in reference to the secret ending where his screen is partially cracked) and is now obsessive and clingy over friends. Both Pal and Nick sometimes have awful nightmares. For Pal, dreams of being consumed by his creations and being trapped in them will be the end of him; when he has these nightmares, he distances himself from Pal Percy. For Nick, he sometimes has awful nightmares about what would’ve happened if he didn’t defeat Pal and if he succeeded.
