the real question is how fast i can finish a 48-episode show. yes, i FINALLY started the red (2024), and finished the first 5 episodes in one day.

i know i was supposed to start it a year ago, but i really need to be in the right mood and mindset to watch something that's not a modern crime drama or thriller. this is also THE ONE zhang luyi drama i need to watch in order to fully claim to be a zly fan lol. it's also one of the top 5 republican era spy cdramas according to a lot of online votes, so it's really a must watch. plus yang lei (three-body) directed this.

i think the most interesting aspect is that zly plays a really shy and adorkable guy who went to military school, and who can deduce like sherlock, plan strategically, and fight like a pro. BUT he has ZERO INTEREST to be involved in everything at all. he's just a reserved, peaceful, good boy who wants to bring grocery home and eat dinner with his mama.

another interesting point is that he has blood phobia, and i'm curious how that can affect him while he fights in the future (two screencaps below are his reaction when he sees blood: 1. he immediately sits down 2. he can't look at the cut on his own finger). he's also color blind which is at least partially why the show is called the red. it's like everyone else is fueled by the symbolism of the color red, but all he sees is grey. very intriguing! 徐天的人设太有意思了，而且这个人设真的非常适合张鲁一！

and lastly, since he gets dragged into things, he meets this policeman who later became his fanboy because how well he can deduce things and help the police solve crimes. i mean there's a romance line between him and the female lead, but there's definitely some bromance coming in as well lol.

honestly, zly's character explaining how he deduced everything to the clueless police guy kinda reminds me of wang miao explaining science to a clueless shi qiang lol.
