Hey so a generic with the color scheme of TransMutate was in the race in Transformers One. She has the Not Chromia / Road Rocket cogged bot and alt mode shapes (that is based on IDW1 & T30 Chromia) and thus as a motorcycle is likely a homage to Beast Wars Uprising Trans-Mutate!

really funny 2 us bc thinking she wasn't in the film we put Trans-Mutate in our tf 1 fanfiction as a transfrem autistic dissident philosopher (she/they) who is 1 of 1st transformers 2 volunteer 2 mine w/ miners & support worker rights and later is part of what remains of the elected government under Sentinel's 50 cycles of rule and the new government that comes after, she 1st appears in chapter 5. you can read chapter 1 here.

So, about BWU Transmutate. Don't get me wrong I do love her and she's great and I'm never going to complain about girl Transformers being given protagonism.

But I can't help but being dissapointed on a meta-level, because the original Transmutate was a disabled character made to look as off-putting as possible, with everyone refering to it with it/its as a form of dehumanization* and was involved in a plot line where everyone else decides what to do with it as if it were a thing. And while there are two characters decided to protect it and treat it as a person, the story ends with Transmutate's tragic death. So it only exists to tell this tragic, shocking story that says more about other characters than itself, and then die so the series didn't have to carry the weight of engaging this creepy-looking character with a speech impediment for more than one episode.

And in BWU it seems like we're doing right by Transmutate's character by making her the protagonist of her own story, but now she's this pretty-looking she/her Transformer perfectly capable of eloquent speech with all of what makes her different and disabled turned inwards, and that's just... not doing any justice to the original Transmutate at all. And I'm not trying to say that autism doesn't come with challenges and ostracism, but I am autistic and conventionally pretty and I know it's a different experience from when people are off-put by taking one look at your body or from the autistic people with speech impediments.

And I know the reason BWU Transmutate looks like that is so they can sell an Arcee recolor, because that was the Collector's Club whole deal, but you know, we could have at least had her struggle with speech or something. I don't know, I really just wish some day we could have a Transmutate that looks and acts like BW!Transmutate but its actually treated as a proper character.

*I still choose to refer to OG!Transmutate with it/its as a form of reclamation. I myself use it/its in English (tho for different reasons), but mainly to honor my good friend Wormy who heavily identifies with the character and goes by it/its exclusively.

i need to go through all of beast wars uprising and reread it and actually talk about it coherently on here. to be clear i Have Read Beast Wars Uprising, it's just that actually talking about it requires an actual dedicated pass through once you have let the absurdity that is BWU sink in the first time so you can actually discuss what an unhinged part of TF lore it is properly. you know. my goal is still that i want to save some money so i can get a ludicrously expensive handbound version of all the text stories made so that i am the only person in the world who owns a hardbound copy of BWU. i love it. would i 'recommend it'. well that's a difficult question. do i love it though. yes. absolutely. i own a toy i spent Stupid Ass Money On purely bc it is technically a BWU toy. is it '''''good''''. who cares. a character talks in hashtags. it looks at you the reader and is like 'is political terrorism ever REALLY justified...... even in service of a good cause............. lol yeah. anyway' reading it will make you question your sanity. there's a virus that just Makes You Galvatron. eject talks in sports puns and runs the hunger games. he has a son. it's incredible. i need to do a BWU reread so bad god

i love Charley Yang (Boywithuke) so much skdfmgfd.

With his earliest songs the biggest thing that had me falling in love with his songs in the first place was the fact that they felt so nostalgic and so real. The lyrics were a bit wonky and could have been worked on much better, but he was like in school at the time. It was also late 2019, early 2020s, at the time. As a kid growing into a teenager, his music was stuff I could genuinely relate to and understand as a kid. The whole toxic popularity due to Tiktok and gacha life edits thing sort of ruined it so much, which is why I dropped him for a bit. It really saddens me that a lot of people see Charley as a person that was that sad guy who wrote the gacha life edits songs Toxic, rather than actually listening to his other songs or even better, his latest music. They've sort of kept him in that place of being nothing more than a temporary TikTok hit, which is pretty crap considering he has genuine talent and feelings put into his songs.

Charley wrote songs that I loved because of their sick beats, how catchy and cool it felt to listen to and vibe along to. I can still sing half of the rap in his songs because of how much I loved to listen and memorize the lyrics he came up with. It felt great, validating, and catered to my music taste seeing a guy sing about his emotions like that. I absolutely loved it. Even exploring his other songs the last few months, I can see from his very first few songs that sort of catchy edge to his songs that probably drew me and other people in so quickly. And just like a person, Charley's songs grew in complexity and matured for all the years I've been such a huge fan of him. That's what I love about his songs so much, the way you can really see the way he's grown.

The whole rebranding as Charley Yang thing is definitely not where I expected him to be, but I'm mostly genuinely happy for him because he's discovering himself and creating new music that's just absolutely amazing with the melodies and the rap and his voice. I'm glad I can still listen to his old music, because I love it and it's helped me so much as a person. I hope his new music and his new album, Burnout, will continue to grow and prove how he's getting better at writing and making songs.

Do you like Beast Wars Uprising?

on the whole I'm positive on it! how much I like each story varies a lot--obviously I loved to see transmutate and rampage, but my absolute favorite one was head games. some good horror, weird worldbuilding, good dystopia shit. I'm passionate about the existence of depressing pseudo-official fiction about people having a terrible time and the history they've come up with is very interesting. I'll be real though I only got about a third of the way through bwu... a lot of the prose didn't really grab me. (looking on tfwiki) ah I see I stopped before getting through trigger warnings because I was tired of cop shit lol
