We tried one last resort to make Chow-Down, the former wild child, more likeable, but it didn't work. He's just too stubborn.

That's alright, we shipped him out with a faun lady who joined us after the trade caravan she was with abandoned her when she fainted at the sight of our mechanoids. She'll probably be happier far away from robots, and we'll definitely be happier without Chow-Down to annoy us.

Ivy has found a much nicer way to enjoy the water than by splashing in the marsh outside. We're getting started on building a hotel to see if we can get a jumpstart on pushing the wealth up ready for the next step of our Archonexus quest, and one part of that hotel is this nice hot tub room. It seems to have the Ivy Seal of Approval, which is always nice!

Speaking of Ivy, I realised she has been unarmed this whole time and relying on Henry for all of her melee damage. That had to be remedied at once, so when a persona toxblade named Avenger's Muse with some pretty decent traits crash-landed in a cargo pod, we couldn't refuse!

And finally, the most exciting event of all!!! Our lovestruck creepjoiners have decided that they're going to tie the knot soon!!

this is entirely unprompted on your end, but i love your darcy and faramir takes and wanted to get your opinion on aragorn/faramir as a ship.

i'm salivating over it and nobody. cares. but i just love how it can show the possibilities of book faramir being a "threat" to aragorn's kingship in a way that nobody else is...how they can relate through their shared ancestry but the entirely different ways it impacted them in their respective lives - something about aragorn being the heir of isildur, growing up surrounded by elves, arnor. something about faramir being distinctly aware of the legacy of the stewards, his numenorean heritage and how it's fading away in the world of men, gondor (my fav world in lotr, you are so under-appreciated, gondor.) i personally adhere to the stewards-were-most-likely-also-royalty headcanon because of that extra juicy tension. throw in the i-knew-your-father-as-a-young-man aspect, the whole steward-quite-literally-serving-in-wait-of-the-true-king aspect? it's everything.

i dunno. the natural cause and effect of "return of the king" & "departure of the steward" is so interesting to play with in a romantic context, especially if it keeps both of them in the limelight when naturally, it should only be one of them? i think it's the aragorn ship that pushes his character and ambition the most, and in the same way, it can push faramir to show more machiavellian traits, more of him utilizing his political power and/or personal strengths. especially since his canonical fate is extremely satisfying but also...very conclusively an *ending* if that makes sense.

i might just want to see faramir clashing with aragorn wanting to wage more war. let him cook! let the man speak about "queen among other queens: not a mistress of many slaves"!!!!

also must admit that it's my contrarian ass wanting to rebel against the fanon "aragorn never ever wanted to be king" + "faramir is a pathetic meow meow" headcanons. the existing faramir x aragorn fics i've read all adhere to it which is frustrating.

Anon, this is my #1 Tolkien ship and actually one of the only m/m ships I've ever been super into. I used to guiltily sneak-read Aragorn/Faramir as a teenager because I grew up in a conservative community and hadn't come to terms with my own queerness at the time, and was still figuring out how to get by in that community just as a Democrat, much less a lesbian.

Anyway, I got a huge kick out of your ask because it's basically point-for-point my own feelings about them. If you haven't seen it, I even wrote a ship manifesto for them over ten years ago.

And unfortunately I do also agree that the (very PJ film-inflected) fanons around both characters have made it very difficult to find fic for the ship that isn't deeply OOC for the original versions of the characters (tbh the last time I looked, it was hard enough to even find F/A fics where Faramir had black hair, much less his deeper canon characteristics). Add in the fanon depictions of Gondor and the Stewardship, and a lot of what appeals about the pairing is lost for me. I read some good ones a longggg time ago, but wouldn't begin to know where to find them now.

(I know I should be the change I want to see and write some myself, but apart from the AU f/f and m/f/f versions, I think the closest I ever came to it was this post about a mostly-the-same-as-LOTR AU only with Faramir/Aragorn and this feeling explosion about "Faramir actually does accepts the dream-visions obviously intending him to be the one going to Rivendell but also it's Faramir/Aragorn.")

Ivy's first night away from home by herself!!! Ahh! She's growing up so quickly. The world needs to see her artistic talents, so off to the Annual Expo she goes!

We love a hodge-podge of stalls at the art and culture expo.

The sculpture they gave Ivy as a reward for her storytelling only had a beauty rating of 2, so we sold it to the first traders who would take it. It didn't match our aesthetic anyway.

And then Jut got a title from The Empire. I'm not sure why. We didn't do any quests for it or anything. Maybe they just heard that he has pretty green eyes now and decided they wanted him in their ranks? Who even knows with The Empire? Those guys are weird.

if it’s not a bother, would you mind giving me a rundown on who james hagens is and what’s his role in bc? i’ve been hearing a lot about him because of the draft and people wanting him to be picked by the islanders. also what do you mean by he’s gabe’s rookie?? i’m very intrigued

Hi anon! Absolutely not a bother!

James Hagens, native Long Islander, just finished up his freshman year at BC where he spent most of the season playing on a line with Gabe Perreault and Ryan Leonard. Like most of the big name USA players you've probably seen around, he also came up through the USNDTP where he played alongside Teddy Stiga and Cole Eiserman, two other fairly well-known players (BC/BU respectively). He would win gold with all of these people this past year at World Juniors, and he was on the U18 Team that won gold as well, which Perreault, Leonard, and Will Smith were also on. SO! They've all known each other for a while, long before James ever actually got to BC. People want James to be picked by the Islanders because he's both from Long Island and grew up on Islanders fan (presumably still is) and because he has connections to people already in the system (Cole Eiserman). For a good while this past year he was being talked up as the number 1 pick, but he's fallen in the rankings a bit. There's hope that his love for the Islanders, being an actual native Long Islander, and growth potential will somehow still get him to go first; regardless, he's still expected to be drafted decently high. And then to circle back - his role in BC is that he basically came in to center the Leonard-Perreault line, as mentioned above, which has some people seeing him as the replacement for Smith (which he technically was). He played decently well this year and was impactful for both Leonard and Perreault at both BC and later Worlds, so he held his role really well. I'm not as good at reading the whole stats side of stuff as other people, but my understanding is that he showed up big in that role for them and held his own himself, although again, he underperformed a bit overall for the expectations of people who were originally hyping him as number 1 pick. And then finally: why is he Gabe's rookie? I could go into this in depth forever, but TLDR: James being Smith's replacement has recently caught the attention of some people who are invested in the Smith-Leonard drama (which I am so I'm not judging anyone lmao) and they see James as a person Leonard would use to get over Smith, especially because James has a similar build/look to freshman-era BC Smith. HOWEVER...if you pay attention to any media from this year or USA stuff, James is always talking about or usually seen with Gabe. And then if you want to look at other public interactions, like when Gabe signed with the Rangers, James posted for him but didn't post anything for Leonard. Gabe's goofy energy matches James pretty well, and while Leonard has been very complimentary of James in interviews and such, the interactions/playfulness of Perrault and Hagens far outweighs any interactions with Leonard that would make him Smith's replacement, in the RPF sense at least. And since Perreault had a year on James by the time he started at BC, he's essentially a mentor figure to the younger guys, hence James' being his rookie (and there's interviews and such where James discusses how much he looked up to/learned from Perreault this past year, etc.). SO!!!!

i watched the first two seasons when they came out but felt like s2 was a decline in quality (the lighting… the cinematography…) so wasnt too interested in the third season, only recently watched it and feel a bit late to all the fandomy stuff and catching up on what people think and i just wanted to say that ur opinion about wille renouncing his title/the problems in their relationship/the further decline of s3 is literally the only one i feel is like rational and correct and realistic!!

i get sad when i see people say that s3 just made them not care or hoping they wouldn’t get together in the end but i also can’t deal with people just buying into the nonsense narrative with a fairytale plaster på såret ending, i completely agree with you that the idea that wille can just like live a normal life isn’t possible and that its much more interesting to imagine how him, and simon, would balance their relationship with the crown (my headcanon is just that sort of after s3 they are like “okay that was cool but lets get real here” and then they sort of goes back to the more realistic handling of the royal family that it has in s1)

also get so upset when i see people saying simon is selfish and always excusing willhems behaviour so thank u for calling him out!!! (more like the writers for fucking him over) i also dont like that in s3 simon just becomes like this passive person while wille takes on the more dominant role as if simon wasn’t the driving force fucking shit up (respectfully) in s1 while wille kept to the sidelines, i guess its to show how they’ve changed as characters but why when wille becomes tougher does simon have to become more docile, like couldn’t they have come togetherrrrr isnt that supposed to be the whole point? they don’t feel like a couple working together despite their differences they just feel like two fanfic characters going from making out to contrived issues pulling them apart so that they can make out again (but sadder this time)

first of all, don't be sorry for the long message, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me! and thank you for saying my opinion is correct haha I know it is lmao. But jokes aside, even though I do get frustrated and I'm sure it bleeds through and sometimes I wanna be petty and hateful, I always try to be reasonable and rational when I talk about criticism so thank you for noticing and appreciating it. (and i do think this criticism is justified and rational but apparently most of the fans don't and just see it as being a hater or monarchy lover)

And same, I also find it sad that s3 ruined wilmon so much that you could actually think they're better off apart. Because I certainly don't really see the long lasting success so I just can't be happy about their ending. I guess i have to accept your headcanon, that makes the most sense but it sucks that you have to imagine a better, more realistic ending or future than canon to somehow make sense of it and excuse it, it shouldn't be like that.

(Also wtf, who is thinking Simon is selfish when he is consistently sacrificing himself and putting his own needs before others throughout the show until he can't anymore and Wille is shown to be consistently selfish which is one of his character traits?)

With Simon being more passive and Wille more dominant - I see where you're coming from but I don't fully agree. Yes to a certain degree, how he treated Simon and Simon just retreated into himself but I actually think Wille was more active and tougher previously (esp in s2) and I mean that in both a good and bad way. In S3 I was missing that cunty attitude he had, he never really fully stood up to Simon or spoke up about the bullying behavior from Vincent and other students (well, he kinda did but that never actually did anything), so in general I would say Wille was actually more passive - he just kinda let things happen at Hillerska, let the royal court tell him what to do, didn't pick anything meaningful for his birthday and so on. I wanted that authorititave energy from him, daring anybody to fuck with him or Simon but I guess he couldn't be shown to actually be protective and competent and successful with that, he had to seem like a royal puppet who can't actually make any things happen and only harm Simon with that :/ They should've been fucking shit up together as a power couple but that was nowhere to be seen

And yes, s1 is special. It really is so well done (even though it also isn't perfect and has some issues) and stands so well on its own. Now I do love s2, it actually is my favourite lol, we can critisise the same thing that happened in s3 tho, that both previous finales were kind of downplayed and the actions in it were barely relevant anymore and no consequences were shown in the next season. In fact, the sex video was continuously downplayed after the s1 finale where it was portrayed as this international scandal and loads of people on the internet were gossiping about it but no sign of that in s2 or 3. No one seemed to care now that it was official and wanted to know who filmed and posted that video and if the royal court covered it up like that wouldn't be some of the most pressing questions from the public. (but no we had to wrap it up quick and August couldn't be at risk of losing his position for the ending to work)

I could go on and on about the weird choices lol but what I meant to say is, things like the cinematography or the acting is still great in s2 and 3, that's not the problem imo but many other things are that make s3 unfortunately a much bigger drop in quality.

About the reunion - that's a really good question. With the canonical ending I actually wouldn't be excited if they did that (and I honestly don't want it) but it would be nice if it would be more realistic, idk what they would do for that, I can only say what I would want to see: I want Wille to still be crown prince and going to therapy and working on his anxiety and anger issues and be more confident in himself and I want to see him and Simon working through their life as a public queer royal couple with all its ups and downs together and bringing in some new changes and challenge the old rules and traditions and not letting themselves be torn apart but stand strong.

(But apparently that is too idealistic and not actually 'realistic' to think that could happen 🙄)
