30 day language challenge part 5!
5)  お気に入りの季節は何ですか?それはどうしてでしょうか?
What is your favorite season, and why?

紅葉 こうよう leaves turning red (in autumn); autumn colors
その上 in addition; furthermore
「x」の中でさらに遠く行く to go deeper into something
スモーキー山脈 さんみゃく Smoky Mountains
イメージ image (in one’s mind); idea (of something)

30 Day Language Challenge (day 1) : Write about your favourite animal
Words that are in blue are words I had to look up.

Lets try this again!
Ok, so it’s been awhile since I last posted anything on here and there are a couple reasons why.
1) School has been kicking my ass majorly over the past few weeks and even more so the past fews days with finals, words can not express how much I hate finals! BUT, thankfully I will be officially done with finals today after I submit a few things for my online class! So with that done and out of the way I’ll have 3 full days a week to commit to other things like learning languages!!!
2) Life has also been playing a huge role in why I just haven’t had the motivation to do anything. Recently a family member of mine past away and it really started to affect me a lot more than I thought it would. However, things seem to be looking up and I feel much better now than I did before, so I’m going to use these feel good feelings to my advantage and tackle some things I haven’t had time for.
I’ve decided that starting in June I’m going to participate in a 30 day language challenge and see how much I can learn in 30 days. I like this idea much better than my very failed attempt at the 100 days of productivity lol 30 days just seems less intimidating and attainable to me so I’m going to start small with 30 days and hopefully build some good habits that I can carry on over the rest of the year. Who knows I may revisit the 100 day challenge again at some point but as of right now I don’t think it’s for me.
Anyways, for my June 30 day language challenge I will be focusing primarily on Japanese but I also really want to learn Hangul during this time as well. I’m pretty sure I can get the Hangul down in no time if I just sit and study them but for Japanese since I can already read Hiragana and Katakana, my main focus here will be on improving my reading speed (I sound like a 4 year old) and to learn more kanji. I’ve kind of always been intimidated by kanji because there are so many of them but I’m starting to realize that a huge part of why my reading skills are so bad is because I can’t read kanji. So yeah those are my plans for the most part, and hopefully during this time (June) I can update this blog more too and share my progress. Lol I’m trying so hard to keep this poor blog alive despite my very inconsistent posts. See you in June!

[1/30] 30 day language challenge
Day 1. Write about your favourite animal
J'aime les chevaux. Ils sont mes animaux préférés. Je pense qu'ils sont précieux et puissants. Je sais beaucoup de choses sur l'éthologie de les chevaux parce que j'ai lus beaucoup de livres. Je pense que les gens ne comprennent pas que les chevaux sont très sensibles et intelligents, et tu ne peux pas les sous-estimer ou traiter comme une voiture.

Langblr 30 Day Challenge (1/30)
(Okay so I’m having some difficulty picking one language as I’m learning 3, at various levels. Maybe I’ll change languages throughout the challenge.)

30 day language challenge (i am not following the 30 days as you can see LOL) part 4!
4) お気に入りの映画について話す。
(talk about your favorite movie)
ちょっと久しぶりですね ;w;

Journal topic: 自己紹介
4日6月19年   はじめまして、名前はシシリです。26さいとカリフロニアに住んでいます。びじゅつ大ガッくせです。私は一つが弟と二人いもとがあります。KPOPと朝ごはん食べ物が好きです。
Yeaaaaah I struggled with this one lol. Even though I chose a topic to write about I haven’t had to write a self intro in Japanese in awhile so I couldn't think of what to say. I know I made a few mistakes but we all have to start somewhere. Anyways today I mostly worked on a few pages from my Try N5 book and then made some flashcards on Quizlet for some of the kanji I need to study for N5. Honestly I think I may just forego using quizlet for kanji studying mostly because of the amount of info I need to include for each card and I also want to include the stroke order as well, which I cant do on quizlet so I think at some point I’ll end up creating a physical flashcard set for my kanji review. Aside from that it was a pretty easy day, but still managed to get in my 1 hour of study time!

今日は漢字を勉強しました。
I think I should just admit that I suck at challenges lol Basically I have no excuse for why I haven’t posted over the past few days other than I’m in the process of leaving my very shitty job and potentially getting a waaaay better one as soon as next week. Anyways, today I decided to work on some kanji since my original goal was to study 5 new kanji each day, however I’m very behind on that. I’m going to try and get caught up before the end of the week so that I get back on track my original goal and keep going with this challenge. I’d also like to set up some sort of routine when it comes to my studies as well this week since I think it will help me stay focused more and have some idea of what I’m going to be doing when I sit down to study. But yeah that’s pretty much it for today, lol let’s see if I can make it to the end of the week!

I am so ready to start this challenge already! I’ve spent the past few days preparing everything, getting notebooks set up, looking up new source material to learn Japanese and reading posts about peoples experience studying for the JLPT N5/N4. Depending on how things go over the next 30 days it will determine whether or not I stick with my plan to take the N5 or just power through and aim for N4 instead. I think my biggest hurdle will definately be Kanji, but I feel like if I can learn around 5 a day for 2 months I would know all the kanji I need to pass N4. Aside from that I’m pretty confident in my ability to pick up grammar and picking up vocabulary has never really been an issue for me either, so really it's just Kanji!
Lol on paper this all sounds easy enough, but we’ll see how it works out in reality. Either way at the end of the year I’m taking the JLPT! I’m tired of accumulating all of this learning material and books for Japanese and not having anything to show for it. I don't think my goal is fluency per say but rather just to be able to be to say what I want to say and be understood ..... is that fluency? lol I don’t know, but that’s what my goal is for now. Also thank you @studyblr for starting this challenge!!

1日6月19年 仕事をやめたいです。嫌いですよ!
(Lol please feel free to correct my very short, yet to the point journal entry. I guessed on some parts, but I think my point was made regardless. )
Yay! So today’s the first day of the #30daysoflearningchallenge and even though I had a bit of a late start I still managed to get in my 1 hour of studying for 日本語! I spent some time going through my Try N5 book, highlighting words and kanji I didn’t know and then creating flashcards on quizlet for me to review later while I’m on the train to work or whenever I have idle time. I also tried to catch up on Memrise as well since I haven’t logged into that in forever and made some pretty good progress there as well. All in all for my first day of actual studying I think I did alright!

3日6月19年 今日は初めて電車で勉強しました。私は家で漢字も勉強しました。
Took me a while to create even this simple sentence but I’m getting there! I think going forward I’m going to start using journal prompts since I’m finding it slightly difficult to find things to write about each day. Also I want to start writing longer entries and I think having a set topic before hand will help me especially when it comes to vocabulary. Aside from that I spent the day again going through some old text books and highlighting key grammar points, after that I spent some time on memrise again (I’m on a 2 day streak! lol) then I took to the internet to try and find full kanji lists for both N5 and N4. I managed to find one for the N5 but finding a list for the N4 was slightly more difficult. My goal is still to try and learn around 5 kanji a day, however before today I didn't have a list of what kanji I needed to learn so I kept having to flip through text books to find them and it was taking too much time to do that every day to review kanji. Now that I have these lists it should make things go a lot smoother in terms of review. Honestly for it only being the 3rd day I have to say that I’m proud of myself for trying to incorporate some Japanese into my day however I can. Whether it be through textbooks, quizlet, memrise or looking up materials online I’ve managed to review or learn something new everyday which makes me really happy! I also set up a study Instagram account as well to help motivate me to post more of language studies as well! So hopefully I can keep that alive lol! Anyways if you’re interested in following me my IG username is @studywithfern :)

2日6月19年    私はとても眠たい!
Today felt so long but even so I still managed to get my hour of study! I did some more review on memrise, went through one of my old textbooks and highlighted vocabulary words I already knew so I can at some point go back and study all the words I don't know yet. I also managed to get in some reading practice which I really struggled with! I didnt realize how bad I was until tonight so that’s definitely going to be an area I pay more attention to going forward. But otherwise then that my studying for today was pretty simply and laid back. Since I haven’t studied 日本語 in awhile I feel like I’m slowly easing myself back into it and am honestly happy with any amount of studying I do. I know I have a lot of work to do before the JLPT but I feel like if can just make it through these 30 days then it will make it easier for me to keep going afterwards and through till the test date.
