It's the Third of October! Happy Marianas Trench Day to those who celebrate! I've posted my analysis of Haven and the Hero's Journey on Ao3 for ease of reading since it ended up at nearly 8k words.

I've been a fan of these guys since about 2015, and in that time the music has really become so important to me. I love story and plot, so I thought it would be cool to do a breakdown of how Haven fits with the structure it's themed around. Check it out if you're interested!

Patching each other up

"Don't die. Please don't die."

He's not breathing anymore. He's not breathing, by the Gods, and his heartbeat is so quiet.

"Stay with me, Tyr."

But I feel him slipping through my fingers. I feel him dying.

"You have to live ! Stop...Stop dying ! Stop ! Stop !"

I am a King. A KIng shouldn't cry. A King shouldn't weep. That's what my mother always said. That a King must be an example. A King has no emotion.

But i can't stop the tears pouring from my eyes.

"Stay...Stay with me !"

His hand is no more. Only a mangled form, which would be bloody if it was not for the ocean's unrelenting waves.

His eyes are closed and a fool could think he's only sleeping, peacefully.

On his face only acceptance.

"I don't want to lose someone ! Not again !"

I cry and I weep and I scream and I try to restart his heart, to awake him. He's so cold.

"Not you...please...anybody but you..."

The gods don't care. The gods never cared.

I won't let him die.

I won't let him pass with this smile on his face. With the smile of someone happy to die. No one should ever be happy to die.

"I can't...I can't do this without you."

I whisper those words wth utter terror. I whisper those words and i know they are true. I need my friend. I need all of my friends. I can't let any of them die.

I put my mouth on his. Suck the water out of his lungs. Again. And again. And again. He chokes. I cry. I cry so much even though i have no more tears.

When his eyes finally opens, I smile.

But I only see fear in them.

Fear and disgust.

And in that instant, I realize.

That it was all my fault.
