A Quick Guide To Getting Caught Up On Critical Role Fast
This guide is for people who want the fastest way official to get caught up on all 3 Critical Role campaigns without seeing the full actual play episodes. They're all made so that the AP will still be enjoyable later even if you know what happens. There's no "right" way to get into the series, and already having an idea of what happens can even help make the APs more enjoyable and easier to understand.
Summary:
The Legend of Vox Machina
Crit Recap Animated
Exandria: An Intimate History
Critical Role Abridged
Guide:
Campaign 1:
The Legend of Vox Machina on Amazon Prime is the animated adaptation of C1 by the same creators. Sam Riegel said the creative approach is this was the version in a later play. All the important bits are there, but they get to those moments differently.
The Legend of Vox Machina has 3 seasons out now that cover events up through at least episode 85. A 4th season is in the works and will probably cover the final arc.
Campaign 2:
An animated adaptation for Amazon Prime called "Mighty Nein" is in the works, but not out yet.
Crit Role Animated is an older comedic summary series presented by their Lore Keeper that covers the whole campaign in 10 videos. Great if you want the gist.
It's like a history crash course history video meant to get you curious to learn the full story later. Great way to get a sense of who people are and what they've done. Available on YouTube and their streaming platform Beacon.
Exandrian History Review:
Exandria: An Intimate History is a timeline review of key events in world history, starting from the creation.
It was released before Campaign 3 as bonus content. It represents what the average person in Exandria knows about world history up to that point.
youtube
Campaign 3:
Critical Role Abridged is the Campaign 3 AP condensed down into 1 to 1.5 hours. It mostly cuts down combat to the narrated results and reduces table chatter and indecisiveness. It's a great way to experience the full campaign.
Critical Role Abridged is coming out 1 a week at a time on YouTube and 2 a week on Beacon. YouTube is currently up to episode 25. Beacon is up to episode 47. The AP is at episode 109. At some point you'll have to switch to full episodes to catch up.
Wiki:
There's also 2 world-class wikis where's you can look up extensive and meticulously cited information about anything you need. I prefer The Encyclopedia Exandria.
Viewing Notes:
An important thing to know about "continuity" in Critical Role is that it takes a more realistic view of how history is passed down through the ages and even dedicated academics will never know the full story or be fully correct. They know versions colored by in-world biases and lost knowledge.
Which is great for you the viewer because any campaign you comes into, the characters don't know most of what happened in past games. What they actually know will come up in game. The players have above table reactions and some subtle in jokes, but try not to act on meta knowledge.
It's structured a lot like reading one history book and then wanting to go back and read more about past events that set the stage for all those things to happen. They've tried to make it easier to come into the story happening now.
I certainly enjoyed watching the full APs from the beginning, and I think you can get a deeper understanding of the story from them, but it takes thousands of hours to catch up on the story that way and it isn't realistic for everyone. Each series builds on the consequences of past events more than they rely on unexpected twists, so already knowing what happens just helps you notice all the little things that led to them. Similar to how Shakespeare's plays are often more enjoyable to watch unfold if you already know the basic plot points going into them.
Happy viewing, and I hope this helps you or someone you know get into this very rich and interesting story!

close quarters | arthur frederick
hiii!!! sorry i've been gone so long,,, been sitting on this idea for a while but its just SO fluffy
and you guys deserve a treat cause i have been slacking on uploads so ...... hope u enjoy!!!
locked in had been an experience, to say the least. at first you had been terrified, you were a smaller youtuber, and you were worried how your personality would come across over the fourteen days. of course, you were excited too, to meet people and have a new experience, but two weeks with no outdoor contact, no time of day, no phone? it was a little daunting.
you had been one of the last people to enter the locked in house, pulling up to the car with your small footasylum bag, and opening the door to gasps.
there was a rush to the front door once people had heard it click, and you were first bombarded by introductions from the girls. they were all so sweet, bringing you into the room where everyone had sat, a group of roughly ten people, and you looked around with a kind of taken aback smile as everyone started introducing themselves.
"am i the last one to come in?" you asked to the group, receiving some nods.
"we think so, yeah," anisa said with a smile, and you nodded back in return.
"so i'm guessing people have already had their pick of the beds?" you grinned in a slightly joking manner.
"yeah, you're unfortunately stuck in the bed next to me," one of the boys you had been yet to introduce yourself to said with a half smile, "though, the good news is i don't snore,"
you giggled and nodded, "thank god for that, hm? i'm y/n, it's nice to meet you,"
"i'm arthur, it's nice to meet you too!" he smiled back, "so, are you a youtuber?"
"well, i mean, kind of? i started on instagram, but i do youtube now too! but i was pretty late in the game," you joked slightly awkwardly, "what about you?"
"yeah, i do youtube, kinda commentary videos?" he said, and you nodded back again.
"well, that sounds interesting," you said, "you'll have to tell me about that later," you smiled back at him, and he nodded.
"ah yes, the most boring night story ever - i mansplain my videos to you," he joked, and you giggled back.
within the first couple of days, routine had established throughout the house - in the mornings, you would wake up and shower, before chatting and getting ready with the girls around the makeup table, gossiping about teams, challenges and anything else that could cross your mind before heading downstairs, most likely being met by some abhorrent meal creation from one of the boys that even uni students couldn't cook up.
the days usually filled up, although slowly, and it was surprisingly peaceful to you without a phone - the challenges brought a bit of structure, and the chats with sugarlips and being set secret tasks made the house more lively.
and arthur - the poor boy didn't leave you alone. not that you minded, of course. across the days so far you had been in the house, the playful banter between the two of you had fell into place nicely. as soon as he found out you played chess, it was game over, any spare minute of your day became sitting on the beanbags, listening to arthur chatter on about random facts whilst playing you at chess.
it was endearing, really - listening to his wide range of facts from animals and nature to physics and space, you enjoyed that there was someone in there just as nerdy as you.
but the close, quickly developing friendship between arthur and yourself didn't go unnoticed, neither from the house, or the viewers: with the few comments you would get shown each night often entailing some teasing joke about flirty vibes between the two of you, but you tried your best to ignore it.
it was probably just made up and dramatised for the camera, and you certainly weren't the first, nor the last to have some kind of romanticised relationship in the locked in house, so you tried to keep the silly thoughts to yourself, i mean you still had a week left, right?
when the text alarm went off, and a shout from one of the boys gathered everyone quickly to the front room, all around the screen, you had been chatting to anisa and anastasia, both finishing up and adding final touches to your makeup, before running down the stairs to join everyone.
it was there where you were met with the lit up board, with the words 'this is cuffing season' on the screen and you quirked your eyebrow slightly.
"oh, is this the handcuff challenge thing, like they did last year?" johnny said, and laughter came from around the room, lamenting jokes being made of who people would hate to be stuck with.
"better lock my boy arthur up with you know you footasylum!" steph announced, bringing another round of giggles as you looked over to arthur, the tips of his ears slightly reddened with embarrassment as he gave you a slight smile and an almost-cocky shrug of his shoulders.
'you will all be cuffed to eachother until further notice. there will be challenges throughout the day with chances to win your freedom and the unlock key to your cuffs.' the next text tone came through, and it ended with the final 'report to the store room in these pairs to collect your handcuffs' with a list of who would be stuck with one another.
as your eyes scanned the board, a huff of a laugh came from you as it confirmed that you would indeed be cuffed to arthur, leading a fit of giggles to come from the girls, and left arthur with an even redder face as the boys clapped him on the back teasingly.
watching each pairing go in and return with a pair of metal handcuffs was more than entertaining, watching johnny and jamie argue immediately about tugging on them, and anastasia and anisa struggling with the simple co-ordination of losing a hand didn't fare well as you and arthur entered the store room.
"hello, arthur and y/n," the slight robotic voice, known as sugarlips, relayed through the room, and i grinned at arthur a little as we saw the single pair of handcuffs left on the chair, "please cuff yourselves together until further notice,"
"sugarlips, you sadistic individual, is there any reason in particular it's me and arthur?" you giggled yourself.
"footasylum thought that since you and arthur were always next to eachother anyways, this challenge would be easy for you two," it repeated, and arthur let out a mock groan and put one hand over his face for a moment.
"you need help putting it on?" he asked for a moment, grasping your wrist gently, "i'll put it on your left and i'll put it on my right, i don't mind having the struggle since we're both right handed," he grinned for a moment, clicking the handcuff over your wrist, the cool metal a slight shock before he then in turn clicked it over his own wrist.
the start of the day wasn't too difficult, you sat at the beanbags playing chess as usual, and watched as jamal tried his best to do his workout, steph laying on the floor next to him with only her arm raised, attached to his, in order to give him slight mobility as he struggled with usually simple movements.
"i reckon eating may be a bit of a struggle," you laughed a little to arthur, as he moved his piece with his less dominant hand, "since you've got your right attached to mine,"
"hmm, maybe," he grinned back, shrugging himself slightly, head tilted vaguely down but eyes still looking at you, gently hooded, "well, i could always make you feed me, since i was the gentleman and let you have your good hand." he teased back, and you rolled your eyes playfully.
"only in your dreams am i feeding you, mr television," you giggle back, eyes focused on the chess board in prayer that you wouldn't look up and reveal your burning pink cheeks.
after you moved your knight once more - defensively, as you realised the more times you played against arthur, that he was quite an attacking player, he looked up at you again.
"they feel weird, don't they? like, obviously we've never been in handcuffs before, so, it's a weird feeling having your hand restricted, right?" he said, quirking a slight smile.
you grinned a little more at him, eyes crinkled slightly, "how do you know i've never been in handcuffs?" you teased, and he raised his eyebrows a slight bit.
"well, i assumed you'd never been arrested - you've not been arrested, have you?" he said, his face clearly betraying shock and not quite catching on to the joke you had been trying to make.
"ah, sweet innocent arthur, you don't have to be arrested to be in handcuffs," you giggled, looking up at him and keeping the wide provoking smile as you watched arthur's eyes widen in realisation, almost choking on his own saliva.
"j-jesus, well, um," he managed to cough out, face painted with a shy awkwardness as he laughed a little. "didn't expect to be hearing that about you," he joked back.
"well, i'm just full of surprises, hey?" you laughed slightly, before raising an eyebrow at him, "and besides, i'm liking being handcuffed to you," you said, before being interrupted by another text tone, and a shout to go to the challenge room.
safe to say, you and arthur had failed the challenge - a relatively simple one, a red light green light style game race to the end to try and be the first one to grab a key, which would unlock your handcuffs. but with your less than brilliant co-ordination, you wobbled slightly when you were supposed to stay still, eliminating yourself and arthur.
you had apologised profusely, but he shrugged and grinned it off, said it was no big deal. once the challenge was over, and johnny and jamie had been freed, they lamented in being no longer connected to one another, playing football in the small outside area whilst everyone else tried to figure how to pass their time being connected to their partner.
you and arthur ended up sat in the shared bedroom, with two beds pushed together, due to the handcuffs you of course had to follow along, so now you had both ended up sat next to one another, hearing the occasional noise from outside.
"locked in has been... so strange, so far," you murmured out, and arthur grinned a little back at you.
"yeah, i suppose. what makes you say that?" he asked, and your shrugged your shoulders slightly.
"well, a week ago i hadn't even heard of you. now you pester me everyday and i'm handcuffed to you," you giggled slightly.
"hadn't even heard of me? wow, that's harsh," he joked, and you rolled your eyes playfully.
"oh come on, as if you had heard of me either," you said back, and he shrugged a little.
"my friends had, when i told them i was doing locked in, and we searched the line up, i did my research on you," he said, voice softer and relaxed, "y'know, found your instagram and youtube and things, i watched a bit."
you looked up at him with slight surprise, "oh yeah? why didn't you mention earlier, then?"
"thought i would come across weird or something?" he said back, and your eyebrows furrowed.
"why would it be weird?" you asked gently, leaning forward out of curiosity.
"well, just cause..." he paused for a moment, letting out a breath he had barely realised he was holding, "i mean, you know, i thought you were attractive, hoped i'd get to know you better in here - thought it would seem strange if i went, 'oh, i actually cyberstalked you and know a lot already,'" he said, his eyes following your face, reading for a reaction as his own cheeks flushed.
you leaned back slightly, letting your gaze rest on. arthur for a moment with a clumsy smile, "you thought i was pretty?" you repeated, and he nodded dumbly.
"well, you're stunning." he murmured out.
you looked down at the bed for a moment, almost awkwardly forgetting about the copious amounts of cameras and microphones that picked up every detail of this exchange.
"well, thank you arthur," you smiled at him shyly, pushing yourself a smidge closer to him, and leaning your head slightly against his shoulder, "that's really sweet."
it went silent after that for a couple moments, but not an uncomfortable silence - a gentle hum of background noise and the steadiness of arthurs breath was all you focused on.
"sorry if my shoulders uncomfortable," he said quietly, and you giggled a slight bit at that.
"it's very comfortable. sorry if my head leaning on you is uncomfortable," you joked back, and you felt his head shake a little.
"no, i like it. it's kind of relaxing, you're warm," he said back, "so, whats your favourite thing to do when you're, you know, not in here, or doing youtube?"
"simple stuff, i guess. i read a lot, but you know that already... i like to paint, i suppose that?" you said softly, shrugging a little at your own answer, "i'm not too interesting."
"you're very interesting, i think. we share space and animal facts, and i always feel like you know more than me, i'd consider that interesting. what do you like to paint?" he asked back.
"mostly landscapes, i guess. i like painting cities, and nature and things, so london's great for that. i do the occasional portrait, but i'm not the best at those," you said, slightly self deprecating in your admission.
"i'm sure you're better than you think you are, honestly," he said reassuringly, "i'd like to see them sometime."
you nodded against his shoulder, your cheek rested against the flesh of his upper arm, knees pulled close to your chest as you sat relaxed against him, "well, maybe one day, if you're lucky enough." you said, teasingly.
"do you think you'd like to see me... outside the house, i mean?" arthur continued, and you watched as his fingers played nervously in his own lap, his thumbs gently running around each other and veins becoming more visible in certain positions up his arms, his hands in his own lap meaning your hand rested on his outer thigh slightly.
"what, you mean like see each other once it's all over? 'm sure the whole house will, i mean everyone's become so close," you said reassuringly.
"i more meant, me and you, like coffee, or drinks or something?" he said, slightly quieter now.
you pulled yourself up from leaning at him for a moment to look at him - the soft brown-ness of his eyes and the gentleness of his slightly parted lips as you smiled, nodding to yourself, and leaned back against him.
"i think i'd really like that, arthur."
he nodded again, almost to himself in a reassuring way. "good, i'd like that too." he said, before pausing for a moment, "...it's weird in here, how close you feel to people quickly, just cause of the no technology, no outside world, no distractions. you feel you know people quicker, i suppose. or at least i think."
you murmur back, "i know exactly what you mean. a week ago i didn't know you, and now i'd hate not knowing you."
another soft silence blanketed, arthur's arm still slightly tensed as you rested on it, not wanting to move even slightly to risk the possibility of moving you along with it, and after five minutes of feeling your body rest slightly more against him with each passed moment and your breathing slowed ever so slightly, he moved his arm a little, trying to see your face.
all he was met with was eyelashes resting gently against your cheeks, lips relaxed and slightly parted, and hair falling against one side of your face.
it was all he could do to gently move himself so you could rest more comfortably against him, an infinitely more difficult task when his dominant hand was still handcuffed to yours, but none the less he allowed you to slightly curl more into his own body, pushing hair gently out of your face and looking down at you, the peaceful stillness of yourself almost making himself calmer.
he couldn't help himself but lift his eyes up to the nearest camera for a moment, remembering that this was most definitely going online for millions to see, and gave the camera a cheeky grin.

Thoughts on The Similarities Between Morrowind and Dune
(and a personal analysis foreword)
----
I've been struggling lately with the idea of wanting to create things, but having a complete lack of aptitude for most forms of art. Within the last few years, I have noticed a huge decrease in my typing ability, reading comprehension, and overall articulation that concerns me, and I think depression is a huge factor that I try to work on as often as I can. I don't get any fulfillment or sense of creation from my work and life has felt so overwhelming and dull lately, but I guess I would consider writing as one of my better talents overall. Seeing something completed feels nice, and once I start on a project, I will usually see it through. Even if it is something that has probably been hashed out a million times, but I love analyzing my little blorbos sometimes and Tumblr is THE place to spout into the void. Already I've written a paragraph and only had to correct about 200 mistakes so here we go... (Spoilers for both Dune and Morrowind of course).
In this analysis, I will provide a little history of both works for people who are unfamiliar with one or the other, and compare similarities and differences. I want to make it very clear from the beginning that Dune was published many, many years before Morrowind, and that I believe that many aspects of Dune helped shape the concept of Morrowind's lore, but I do not believe that this was extensive to the point of plagiarism or intellectual property theft.
Dune was published by Frank Herbert in 1965, which was the first of 6 novels in the original series. The series was later expanded upon by Frank's son Brian Hebert and currently includes 30+ novels set in the Dune universe. The series is set in our universe approximately 20,000 years in the future, and take place mostly on the planet of Arrakis, or Dune, as it is called by the native people. The story follows the members of House Atreides and their contested lordship of Arrakis. The young Atreides heir, Paul, is the culmination of a millennia-long eugenics experiment by the Bene Gesserit, an organization of women with mystical abilities and training. Paul is believed to be the Kwisatz Haderach, one who is able to see all potential futures. Following the decimation of the Atreides-held city on Arrakis by a feuding house, Paul seeks asylum with the native Fremen population. Their belief in the Lisan Al-Gaib leads them to believe that Paul is their messiah, and they later overthrow the invading House Harkonnen and restore Paul Muad'Dib as the emperor of Dune.
Morrowind is the third installment in the Elder Scrolls video game series, and was released by Bethesda in 2002. The game is set in Morrowind, one of 9 provinces of Tamriel. The story follows a slave, released without explanation by the Emperor, to the remote island district of Vvardenfell. The former slave/adventurer is given the task of working with an operative of the Blades, the Emperor's guard and spy network. The spymaster Caius has the adventurer obtain various accounts of the native prophecy of the Nerevarine, a reincarnation of a legendary hero that will unite and save the people of Morrowind from an ancient evil, the Sixth House. As the questline progresses through many trials, it becomes clear that the adventurer appears to fulfill the prophecies, and culminates with the adventurer defeating the lord of the Sixth House, Dagoth Ur, and freeing the people of Morrowind from the blight.
Both Morrowind and Dune rely heavily on storytelling from the perspective of an outsider to learn the ways of the native culture. Paul learns the way of the Fremen as he traverses Arrakis as a means of separating himself from his previous way of life and understanding the prescience that he will one day lead the Fremen in a galactic Jihad; the Adventurer learns the ways of both the Great Houses of Morrowind and the Ashlander tribes in order to lead them in fighting the Sixth House and Dagoth Ur. Both native populations have a far-reaching history of nomadic, tribal origins. Both view their respective empires as invading forces to be repelled.
Both stories use lost and forbidden knowledge as a key plot point, with the Adventurer retrieving the Lost Prophecies of the Seven Visions and Seven Trials, Knowledge forbidden by the Tribunal Temple; and with Paul ingesting the Water of Life to obtain memories of the lives of past Reverend Mothers of the Fremen, forbidden to any male.
This ties in with the use of religion as a means of control in both stories. In Dune, the Bene Gesserit are said to "seed" planets with a doctrine that they believe will advance their goals in the future, which ultimately leads to the Fremen belief in the Lisan Al-Gaib and the rise of the Atreides Empire. In Morrowind, the Tribunal have persecuted the Dissident Priests for their teachings that the Tribunal only attained godhood through deception, and maintain strict control over what the Temple preaches. Both Vivec and Paul Atreides later regret the ritualistic practices of their following, and both admit that they allowed ritual and habit to corrupt the practice of their worship.
The province of Morrowind and the planet Arrakis are both viewed by the outside world as savage, inhospitable, and mostly uninhabited land. In Morrowind, the Empire has fairly recently come to the island of Vvardenfell, and most Imperial forces consider the island to be a wild, rural backwater of the world. Tension is high between the native Great Houses of Morrowind and the Empire, with very little or no contact between the Ashlander Tribes and the Empire. In Dune, the native population initially remains hidden from the Imperial forces that seek to harvest the planet's resources, and the few that have contact with House Atreides are seen as dangerous and alien in their practices.
There are other similarities that I can't articulate very well because it is getting late... Alia's possession by Baron Harkonnen in Children of Dune mirrors Dagoth Ur's seeming possession by the proximity to the Heart of Lorkhan, Paul's reliance on Spice as a means of prescience mirrors the Tribunal's reliance on the heart for their godhood and so on.
I am by no means a professor of literature. This is not meant to be a definitive list of similarities. I just had some thoughts on the similarities for a while and it's been tickling me to write them down. I apologize if I've transposed some words or missed the right verb form, my brain just does that now :/

Dropout TV has an Antisemitism problem
TL;DR: What you think isn’t antisemitic actually is. Replace Zionist or Jew with any other minority group, would you say the same thing?
If you read the title of this piece and thought “wait, I thought the CEO was Jewish and so were members of the talent, crew, and personnel” then you’d be correct. I am not talking about them. I am talking about the fanbase, which has now become so outwardly antisemitic and hostile that they are disparaging Dropout and Dropout personnel on its own official Discord server. For those of you who don’t know what Dropout is, it is a media company that was formerly known as CollegeHumor that produces original programming. Often their content is comedic in nature and covers everything from improv games to actual play to animated series. The company and people involved are very progressive and their ideals are often seen through the content that is produced. Discord is a social media platform that allows for text messaging, voice calls, video calls, and the sharing of media files. So what is the antisemitism problem? In November 2023 a channel on the official Dropout Discord server was made titled “palestine”. The opening statement of the channel is that it is fan run and fan moderated. This is not an issue and is a good move by a company that in itself is often very political. However, the fanbase running this particular channel then proceeded to (and has continued to) engage in antisemitic behavior while also chasing away or banning anyone who calls it out. Initially you would think that this space would begin as many of these things do, a gradual shift to extremism over the course of time. You would also think that it would be accepting and tolerant given the proclivity of progressive and leftist spaces to emphasize dialogue, diversity, inclusivity, and cooperation. Unfortunately, this channel began right out with extremism by targeting Zionists (read: Jews or anyone who spoke up) and banning them from the entire server. Any information that was provided by sources not in line with the channel and moderator ideals is labeled as Zionist (Jewish) Propaganda, deleted, and the person removed.
Fig. 1. Moderator message after removing two people near the beginning of the channel’s creation who were asking about Israelis, the hostages, and other such questions.
The irony is that the channel primarily shares material from Al-Jazeera, which has long been recognized as a pro-Hamas outlet, or other sources that are actively associated with Hamas as well. When confronted about the sharing of materials from sources that support Hamas and the implication that they, the members, therefore support its activities the members of the channel will often deflect and say they don’t support the group, but then justify the actions of the terrorist group.
Fig 2. User justifying Hamas’s actions in response to one of the removed Zionists. This statement implies that Israel has been constantly murdering people and thus Hamas’s actions are valid.
Fig. 3. Both users are responding to one of the banned persons talking about the conflict. In context, both are denying that Hamas takes aid from the various charities and thereby keeps Palestinians impoverished, as such they have to fight back (against Israel).
Fig. 4. The same user from Figure 2 and 3 (bottom user) justifying Hamas’s attack on October 7th. This response is to someone asking about condemnation of the initial attack, and the user says it is in response to mass murder, thereby providing an ahistorical account.
Members of the channel also began justifying the Houthi’s behavior when their offensive began and even went so far as to say that they could not be antisemitic because they are Semitic people. To give credit where credit is due, this position was quickly corrected. However, people still maintained their support of the Houthi’s regardless of their knowledge that the group engaged in horrific activities.
Fig. 5. User saying Houthis are not antisemitic and justifies this with an outdated and antiquated classification system.
Fig. 6. Justification of the Houthis because they’re fighting Israel denial that Israel (and by extensions Jews) are crying wolf about antisemitism.
The discussion surrounding the Houthis, and in turn Hamas and its actions, eventually led to members justifying terrorism. There are two positions to their justification 1) If Hamas is the government and in charge of the area, then it can’t be a terrorist attack. 2) Any attack on a colonial power is valid, and Israel is a white imperialist colonial country, so the attack is justified. The first position denies that governments can engage in terror attacks on other countries or peoples. The second position denies the existence of Jews from the MENA region and that they were forced out of their home countries and into Israel upon its creation. To members of this channel, Israel is made of white Europeans. For some members the denial that terrorism is a thing turned into outright conspiracy that the word terrorism is an excuse to commit genocide.
Fig. 7. Top user is “asking questions” and thus denies 10/7 was a terrorist attack because Hamas is the government. Bottom user states that there is no such thing as terrorism, and in turn denies MENA Jews history by implicating Israel is a colonial power.
Fig. 8. User implies that the word terrorism is an excuse to commit genocide and that we can excuse terrorism because of the USA’s past and present actions.
There are a lot more examples within the channel as well. There are moments of Holocaust inversion, Holocaust denial, denial of October 7th, usage of terrorist terminology, attacking the hostages or denying that Israel is trying to get them back, denial of Jewish history, etc... It is ironic that they repeat any source not on their list is hasbara (Jewish propaganda) while exclusively posting Al-Jazeera. The AJ materials the members post do not include the negotiations between Israel and Hamas, they do not include incidents where Hamas declined turning over the hostages and a ceasefire, nor do they include interviews with returned hostages and their experiences. The entire channel is designed to make Israel (Zionists (Jews)) into the villain and diminish the actions of Hamas. At no point in the channel is there a discussion on Hamas beating/shooting/killing Gazans who try to get aid from the supplied resources. The dichotomy is clear.
However, one of the most recent incidents of antisemitism happened in response to the Dropout newsletter that came out recently as of this writing (02/19/2024). I will let you read the message below first.
Fig. 9. User attacking Sam Reich, the CEO of Dropout, for maintaining a neutral position in the conflict.
At first this message appears to be attacking any other CEO for not committing to a progressive cause. If this message was taken outside of this conflict, it could be used for any movement that has happened in the USA in the past few decades. However, this is what we call the “pound of flesh”. This phrase is fairly common, but what does it mean when it comes to the I/P conflict, antisemitism, and Jews? Jewish people have always had to give a “pound of flesh” to prove that they’re not one of the “bad ones”. At some point a Jewish person will have to give up some aspect of their identity to be more socially acceptable in their respective social circle and/or larger group that they belong to. As the Left has clearly defined any Jew who does not outwardly speak up as an “evil Zionist” this means that Sam Reich is therefore one of the “bad ones”. Einat Wolf wrote about this very phenomenon for TabletMag where she discusses how young Jews are being pressured to renounce Israel on college campuses. What the members of the channel do not realize, or do not want to accept, is that pressuring a Jewish person to renounce part of their cultural identity is in itself antisemitic. Jewish people have a 2000-year tie to the Levant region and regardless of what the current government of Israel is doing, and whether you stand opposed to it or not, asking a Jew to publicly giving up that connection is engaging in the same antisemitic demands that have plagued them for centuries.
As such, Dropout, a company with Jewish personnel, is being harassed by its antisemitic fanbase who insist they are not antisemitic while engaging in centuries old antisemitic behaviors that Jews have seen before. I personally do not know what should be done, or what the company can do, but considering the majority of these members are self-avowed progressive Leftists it is concerning that such spaces have become hostile to Jewish Leftists such as myself and others. Many of these people will likely think that they’re not being antisemitic. Some of you readers may not think they’re antisemitic either, or that you yourself share similar views and are not antisemitic. But not all antisemitism is outright calls to “Gas the Jews”, sometimes it’s more subtle and involves silencing Jewish voices you disagree with, proving that you’re a “good Jew”, denying our history, and more. So the next time someone says “Oh you’re just using antisemitism as an excuse to keep me quiet”, maybe think that you’re using it to quiet Jewish voices. Would you, at any other point, say something like this to another minority speaking up about hate towards them? No? Then what’s the difference? Antisemitism is one of the oldest forms of hate, it is systemic and ingrained in so many cultures across the world. The first step is recognizing it and being cognizant. Hopefully the Dropout Discord can take these first steps. If not…well I don’t see many Jews feeling safe there for quite some time.

Stiles crochets magic shit. Fluff.
His mother made cards, his father carves, and Stiles crochets.
At first it’s just something to keep his fidgety hands busy, and by the half dozen wonky scarves and blankets it’s clear that it’s more for mental preoccupation than making something nice, but then Stiles discovers that you can actually make creatures with yarn. There are free online patterns for superheroes, Pokemon, video game characters—all of which he already likes.
Also, some people sell that shit, and he’s been looking for a source of side income on top of babysitting and selling essays to high school kids.
So Stiles is twelve when he starts. And he’s a damn perfectionist, hiding all his first attempts away until his stitches are even and his embroidered features precise.
It’s something to help him unwind. He can binge watch and crochet at the same time, or listen to music and audio books. Eventually the motions are ingrained enough that he only has to keep half an eye on whatever he’s doing to push his hook through the proper stitch, and the rest of his attention is devoted elsewhere. He’s even managed to read while he’s at it, going down a rabbit hole of loosely connected wiki articles.
Stiles is 13 the first time he makes Batman, his long time favorite hero. After he’s finished sewing all the pieces together and adding the bat emblem, he holds it up to the light to inspect with a proud grin and yelps in surprise. Because the tiny arms reach out, seemingly of their own accord, and wrap around his hand in a soft hug. Stiles hadn’t used posable wire. It shouldn’t be able to bend that way and stay.
“What the fuck,” Stiles mumbles, confounded. The doll’s embroidered straight mouth curls into an impossible smirk, and the amigurumi falls limp in his hold. The only way Stiles knows he hadn’t hallucinated it all is because the upturned lips remain instead of the straight, serious line he had embroidered.
Stiles blinks. Tries to write it off.
But he’s always been overly aware of mental illnesses - it comes with the territory of loving information and having a clinically insane mother - so he starts selling his creations. They’re cute and niche enough that he gets $25 to $40 a piece, and considering that the activity relaxes him and only strains his wrist… Well, it’s better than them just collecting dust in his closet. He still writes essays, and instead of pitching in on groceries he shops cheap with what his dad is willing to spend.
Eventually he has enough for an MRI, $1,372.00 without insurance, plus a signed consent form from parent or guardian. He goes a couple of towns over, outside of Beacon County, unwilling to let the gossip reach his dad’s ears. The bill never comes - he brings a cashier’s check, less suspicious than cash - but a letter does, confirming the doctor's original findings.
He keeps the clean bill of health tucked at the bottom of his yarn stash, and pulls it out whenever he needs reassurance. So really, whenever he finishes making something and it begins to move.
His Harry Potter tends to end up pitched off the bookshelf or in Voldemort’s lap. Don’t look at him--he has no control over them once he’s tied off the last bit of yarn and tucked it away.
He never gets super into anime, but he does end up watching a few. And Alphonse Elric cookie jar becomes one of his proudest creations. And then of course he can’t leave Al without his older brother, plus Ed is a complete badass. Stiles is in awe of him. Someone who does that kind of alchemic calculations on the fly just to add skulls to shit is a dramatic hoe, and Stiles can respect that. Tom Riddle sits next to him on the bookshelf, because that’s where the dramatic hoes live. If Stiles ever made a Peter doll, he’d have earned his place there.
Once werewolves become a thing, Stiles can’t help himself. He makes a Remus Lupin, and then gives him a pack of wolves in gray, black and white. They trot around his nightstand, tugging impatiently at his sleeve every time he’s assembling another packmate.
They understand, just as Stiles does, that pack is important. Scott couldn’t get that lesson through his head, but Stiles knows it to his core.
…
Stiles slips off his shoes and curls up in the nook, grabbing a 3.50mm hook and two skeins of yarn. He connects to the Wi-Fi and puts Parks & Rec on while he crochets, occasionally remembering himself enough to reach out and sip at his slowly melting blended mocha. He’s just finished Deadpool’s body when somebody sits across from him, and he pulls one earbud out with a scowl, glancing up.
Peter Hale sits across from him with a small smirk and a hot drink, eyes meeting his for a moment before he cracks open a book. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Stiles blinks at him, the intrusion hardly registering as an annoyance because Peter hasn’t started talking, and stares for another bemused moment before replacing his ear bud and hitting play.
He was relaxed in minutes, movements smooth and practiced as he started the head. He felt eyes on him, but they only stayed long enough to catch Stiles’ awareness but not make him self conscious.
He finished off his drink and another was set in its place by the barista, who met his eyes and winked. Stiles blinked back, then smiled warmly in thanks and stopped reaching for his wallet.
He finished off Deadpool's head and shuffled for some more materials. The small red coffee mug filled with dark brown yarn and a little extra fiber-fill to imitate steam is quick work, only the size of his fingernail and fiddly enough that he had to focus.
He waits until the two people in line have their orders, then goes to pass off the bauble.
The barista gasps. Her name tag says Aria, but she always takes a beat too long for it to actually be her name, so to him she’s simply the barista.
“This—is worth more than a free coffee,” she says, not exactly a rejection. She’s clearly enchanted by the tiny piece, which is nice. Stiles does like to be appreciated, even if his talent in this is the only thing that ever seems to earn it.
“Pretty sure you’re up to around six free coffees now,” Stiles countered with a bemused little smile.
The barista huffs. “Don’t tell the boss,” she mumbles, taking his creation at last.
Stiles laughs at that. The boss—Rachel Zohinder—was absolutely besotted by the barista, and wouldn’t say a word against it. “Our secret,” he agrees.
She tilts back a smile, small but true. “Show me if you finish before you leave?” she requests.
Stiles shrugs. Nods.
He ignores Peter’s eyes when he slips back into the booth, gnawing at his lip absently as he feels around for his wire.
Cheers to Hook, Yarn, Sinker by pprfaith that started my crochet journey in 2016. A truly gorgeous Steter story.

I Watched Videos of Star Trek Films that Don't Exist, and They're Surreal AF
If I were ever going to make a Star Trek film, I know what the premise would be. I've thought about it a lot over the years. I have the whole beginning of it completely storyboarded and blocked out in my mind. This opening sequence is a set piece with mystery, action, and adventure, and really it's an entire, self-contained story unto itself.
I'm going to talk about all of that, and show you a video that is screwing with my mind, and more besides, under the fold!
CAPTION: J.M. Colt stands with her hands behind her back in the Roddenberry Archive video "765874."
The Inspirational, Infatuational J.M. Colt
My Star Trek film would feature the original Star Trek character of J.M. Colt in the starring role.
(Tangent: If you're not a hardcore Trekkie, you may have never heard of Colt. She only appeared in the original Star Trek pilot "The Cage" (the one featuring Captain Pike), and was basically the most peripheral member of the Enterprise crew to still get her name in the credits. She was the captain's new yeoman (a secretarial personal assistant), the previous one having recently been killed on a landing mission. Pike was feeling guilt over his last yeoman's death, and for protective patriarchal reasons he didn't like it that his new yeoman was female. Meanwhile, Colt herself was head-over-heels crushing on Pike, which led to some deep awkwardness between the two of them. Although Colt had very little to do in the story, she was one of the officers to get kidnapped by the Talosians and held prisoner alongside Pike, in the Talosians' misguided hope that Pike would pick one of his female shipmates to mate with and create a self-sustaining line of humans for the Talosians' zoo. This is all a bit chauvinistic and patronizing of course, but the dynamics between them are a natural enough thing in human behavior, and in any case—and more importantly—Colt behaved with professionalism and bravery throughout the entire episode, including choosing to stand her ground in the face of death when Number One set the phaser to overload to deprive the Talosians of human zoo animals.)
We never saw Colt again after "The Cage," except in a few beta-canonical comics and novels. In the original Star Trek series she was replaced by Yeoman Janice Rand, who gave off very different vibes. Colt is also not present as a character in the present-day Star Trek: Strange New Worlds show (notwithstanding the easter egg of an unrelated alien extra named "Colt" on the background of the Enterprise bridge in one scene of Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery) , so most Star Trek fans today don't even know Colt exists.
But she certainly made an impression on me! Some of it was actor Laurel Goodwin's beauty, I guess. Other than her being skinny and not especially tall, Colt is basically my ideal of a beautiful partner, and she was one of many visual influences on my creation of Silence Terlais.
But it's not just beauty: There is something tantalizing about a character whom we are introduced to, and whom come to like, but never get to truly "know" because they aren't developed very far, or aren't the center of attention, or the media they're in ends. I feel this way about Tasha Yar from Star Trek: The Next Generation as well. She died in the first season, so there's a huge "What if?" hanging over her. That's what Colt is for me: "What if?"
Because Colt had so little time with us and was then cast away and forgotten, my imagination is free to run wild about who she might have become and what she might have achieved. And maybe it's for the best this way. I don't like how they treated Yeoman Rand in the series, and I'm sure they would have done much the same to Colt. And for all that disrespect she wouldn't have gotten much screentime anyway. So, if anything, maybe it's better that Colt only ever appeared once and was left an immaculate mystery ever after, unsullied by '60s misogyny and 2010s cynicism alike.
More so than beauty, then, this tantalizing sense of mysterious incompleteness is the biggest reason why I actually based not one but two characters in The Curious Tale off of J.M. Colt: There's Jayem Colt (not so subtle, eh?), who keeps the red hair but is much older (about 55 – 60 in our years) and is the captain of one of Silence's sandships. This Colt later goes on to join the Handsel Band as one of its leaders. And then there is Ravel Vraske, who has brown hair but otherwise looks reminiscent of the original Colt and is about the same age as her. Ravel is one of the last survivors of deceased Guard of Galavar Zirin Aloryane's doomed-before-the-story-begins project to bring the Galance Ideal to Relance and therein sway the nations of the world to join Gala without using force or violence. Ravel proves indispensable in the Handsel Band and over time becomes its best "swayer."
But the original J.M. Colt remained a tantalizing figure for me too, all through the years. I like to imagine that she built a great career in Starfleet and rose to become the captain of her own starship one day.
Star Trek: J '79
It's no secret that I think Star Trek: The Motion Picture is the greatest Star Trek film ever made by an order of magnitude, and one of the best science fiction films of all time.
At the end of that film, as you may recall, the lost NASA probe Voyager 6—elevated by an alien machine civilization into this massive, conscious entity—has returned to Earth to complete its centuries-old mission of learning all that is learnable and returning that information to its "creator."
In the film, we never actually learn whether this happens. Decker inputs the final command personally, and he and Probe-Ilia physically join with "Vejur" (or "V'Ger" if you like) and transcend the Universe. Presumably, Vejur would have transmitted its information before it went, since that was its purpose after all, but we're never told either way. (And while some fans speculate that it didn't happen, due to Vejur destroying its own antenna lead and fixing on Decker as the one to deliver its report to, neither of these speculations necessarily precludes the possibility that Vejur still transmitted its report.)
I like to imagine that it did happen, that Earth was inundated with hundreds of years worth of learning from a Galaxy-spanning scientific demigod of its own creation, and that this was a major reason as to why and how the Federation became so much more advanced and prosperous over the next hundred years by the time Star Trek: The Next Generation came around. I like to imagine that it would have taken the Federation's best minds many decades to delve into all the information that Vejur sent, all its secrets and mysteries (still not fully comprehending everything), and I expect that the ensuing discoveries would have caused great upheaval and transformation as the Federation assimilated all that knowledge. And I like to imagine that Vejur's treasure trove of information led to a great many starship expeditions to investigate curious things that Vejur documented across the Galaxy.
My Star Trek film concept would take this premise and run with it. The movie I envision making mostly draws from the aesthetic and tonal palette of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (hence the working title of "J '79"), right down to those groovy Starfleet uniforms and those luscious '70s décor styles. And it would keep the film's sense of wonder and optimism, humanism and discovery, mystery and exploration—which has often been lacking in Star Trek media. But my movie would also draw somewhat from the underappreciated horror vibes from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which is probably the scariest and most gruesome of the thirteen Star Trek films to date, even though most people remember it as an action film.
But, basically, I would pitch my Star Trek film as a direct sequel to Star Trek: The Motion Picture—except with a different ship and crew.
The Opening Set Piece of Star Trek J '79
In the darkness of space, a Constitution Class Refit starship appears without any fanfare. It's not the Enterprise; it's another ship; but it looks just like the Enterprise we know from the original movies.
There is no star nearby. In the distance there is a modestly glowing, magenta nebula which provides a pale, wan light that just barely describes the contours of a rogue planet that's dark purple, black, and brown. There's no captain's log, no speaking of any kind.
We cut to the planet's surface, as a sizable landing party beams down in the foreboding style of the middle TOS Star Trek films. The planet is silent, all except for the tiniest rustle of a breeze. The atmosphere is completely minimal and unbreathable, but neither is it noxious, so instead of wearing full-helmet suits the landing party only has nasal breathers—plus jackets since it's very cold.
There is no life. But there are spectacular, ancient ruins, in stone so black and glassy that it's like looking into the void. Domes and pyramids and viaducts, all standing or lying in ruin amid countless years of sand and rock.
The landing party members perform their initial scans and report to the Captain, who sends them off in various directions to explore different points of interest. He remains behind to check out some smaller ruins in the immediate vicinity, and one of the other officers stays with him—a redheaded female officer whose name you can probably guess. He asks her advice, and what she gives him is sound and wise, but also rather limited, as a good advisor arguably should be: not packaging instructions so as to be the de facto leader themselves, but identifying relevant information and leaving it to the actual leader to make the decisions.
Vejur had learned of a magnificent, vast civilization, unspeakably ancient and now long gone, but remembered by a number of present-day civilizations through their monumental ruins. A bit like the Iconians or the Tkon Empire, for example, if you know your Star Trek lore—but not actually either of those civilizations. Older than both! None survives today who knows what these ancients called themselves, so they are referred to only by the descriptions left in text and tablature: the Feathered Builders. (A bit Chozolike, if you will, but also clearly not the Chozo.)
This starship, it turns out—I've toyed with calling it the Constitution but have never settled on a name that completely satisfied me—has been on a mission for nine months trying to track down one of the Feathered Builders' major planets. The most important planets were all "lost" countless ages ago, making it difficult to gather information about the Feathered Builders' civilization or learn the secrets of their technology. The Federation had never even heard of the "Feathered Builders" until Vejur came along and did its thing, but once they did learn they put Starfleet on the case, and the Constitution has managed to finally track down one of the lost capital planets.
This all comes out in expository dialogue as the Captain and Colt explore some of the ruins.
As the investigation ensues, we begin to see the Captain making some questionable leadership decisions. Colt advises him where she can, but he's in command and he has the final say.
I'm going to spare you some spoilers (I'll explain why later), and instead I'll just say that, eventually, the landing party is able to activate an ancient device in the ruins that causes a massive tumult and brings to life an image of one of these Feathered Builders, somewhat similar to the Tkon guardian portal from the TNG episode "The Last Outpost." This custodial being speaks with the Captain, explaining that the Feathered Builders evolved and department from three-dimensional space-time. But the Captain doesn't acquit himself to the custodian's liking and the conversation gradually deteriorates until reaching the breaking point, where the Feathered Builder custodian decides not to provide the Starfleet officers with the information they are seeking. Instead, it commences to sweep up all of the ruins on the planet, violently spiriting them away to some other plane of existence so that the humans can never do anything with them.
At the last moment, Colt intervenes and takes over, trying to salvage the situation by revealing to the custodian and to us in the audience that she is the real captain of the Constitution and that this had been a field training exercise for the person we had thought was the Captain, who turns out to actually be her first officer. Colt pleads with the custodian to reconsider its decision, but the custodian is unmoved and soon every trace of artifice on the planet is completely gone, leaving the landing party alone with nothing but sand and rock: another dead end in nine long months full of them. Though at least they didn't lose their skins!
And from there the opening set piece moves forward into the movie proper, with Colt back on the ship explaining to her first officer that she plans not to recommend him for promotion, etc., and setting the main events of the movie into motion. It turns out that Colt is actually one of Starfleet's training captains, known for taking marginal command candidates under her wing and discerning which ones can be forged into captains and which ones just aren't fit for it despite being close. And this poor fellow is one of the ones who isn't quite there. He's not a villain, not evil, not stupid. He's just not quite good enough. We're always told that it's hard to be a starship captain and that very few people can pull it off, but we're rarely actually shown this reality in Star Trek. I thought this would make for a powerful thematic statement befitting of the opening scene of my movie, given the overall story of said movie.
Making Do with Reality
Of course, they're never going to approach me to direct Star Trek. And I succeeded a long time ago in divorcing my creative ambitions for science fiction out of Star Trek and putting them into my own science fiction series, Galaxy Federal.
So what I've done, in dribs and drabs over the past few years, is adapt my Star Trek movie concept for use in a future Galaxy Federal novel. Not the "Inaugural Novel" that I've been actively working on, but another novel that is very much on the way-back burner. And that's why I didn't want to share some of the spoilers with you, just in case that book ever actually does get written.
Cherry Ilyapa is a good replacement for Captain J.M. Colt. I had already, independently written Cherry as a "training captain" in the aforementioned sense: The Admiralty frequently sends her marginal first officers and entrusts Cherry to develop a nonbinding but influential assessment as to whether these officers should be entrusted with their own command or not. In fact, I think that's where I originally got the idea for the Star Trek movie to open with a fake-out that somebody else is the Captain instead of Colt.
It's quite gratifying how much of this set piece adapts with no difficulty at all into the Galaxy Federal world. The only things I really miss from Star Trek are the transporters, which Galaxy Federal doesn't have, and of course Colt herself. Though, I must say, Cherry is an excellent substitute for Colt if a substitute must be had. Also, and no spoilers, but the good thing about my plans for the Galaxy Federal franchise is that different novels aren't necessarily going to be published in chronological order. My Star Trek movie idea book can be set either before or after the events of the Galaxy Federal Inaugural Novel, as needed.
In many ways, the Galaxy Federal world is a better fit for my story idea than the Star Trek world is. That probably shouldn't come as a surprise; it's only natural that "the kind of story I would want to tell" would fit more easily into "a fictional world that I created myself." Star Trek has some tropes and tonalities that don't really agree with me, whereas Galaxy Federal has things exactly the way I want them. I'm not really into the pulpy, action-oriented side of Star Trek. I'm not very impressed by Star Trek's usual lack of visual ambition (The Motion Picture being a major exception). And I don't like how incestuous the Star Trek universe has become, with a small number of fan-popular characters (e.g. Data), polities (e.g. the Borg), places (e.g. the Mirror Universe), organizations (e.g. Section 31), and events (e.g. the Battle of Wolf 359) becoming entangled more and more messily and gracelessly with subsequent canonical (and fanonical) productions as the years roll on. In Galaxy Federal I can have my preference of never doing this, and instead let new stories spread out into their own space freely rather than make constant callbacks and plot tie-ins to previous canon. A little callback is necessary for franchise coherence and desirable for aesthetic or narrative purposes, but Star Trek has gone way overboard ever since Star Trek: Voyager.
Anyway! My Star Trek movie / Galaxy Federal book would be another grand epic adventure in the vein of the Inaugural Novel, as opposed to some of the lower-spec concepts I have for other Galaxy Federal novels, and it's nice to have something big like that on the horizon, even if I'm not actively working on it.
The Roddenberry Archive and the Memory Wall
The whole reason I am writing this post in the first place is that yesterday I saw an amazing video.
Two years ago, I read an article that threw my brain for a major loop: I saw behind-the-scenes photos of J.M. Colt on the set of "The Cage," in uniform and all that...except that these photos were from the 2020s.
This really screwed with my grip on reality, in both a good and a bad way. "The Cage" was produced in the 1960s. What was this sorcery? Well, upon closer inspection here's what had happened:
For many years now, an organization called The Roddenberry Archive has existed to collect and preserve relics of the lifetime of work of Gene Roddenberry. The Archive is a project of some of the biggest creative names in Star Trek, including Michael and Denise Okuda, Doug Drexler, and others. You can read more about them on their About page.
As a part of their preservation efforts, they have sought to bring Roddenberry's work to life in various ways, including in the form of audiovisual "experiences" that, essentially, are like movie trailers that recreate the vibes of prior incarnations of Star Trek. That's what led, for example, to the recreation of J.M. Colt standing on the 1960s bridge of the Enterprise in the 2020s. They were recreating that environment, and they had just so happened to pick the character of Colt—of all people!—to use as their filming model. Partly this was because one of the people closely involved with bringing the project together is the actor and producer Mahé Thaissa, who bears a passable resemblance to J.M. Colt, especially with a wig and the uniform. It was convincing enough that I genuinely read her as Laurel Goodwin's J.M. Colt!
Recently, they've been at it again with an initiative called 765874. And again they are using Colt as their central character, now with added Spock. Yesterday, YouTube showed me this:
youtube
This is mind-blowing! That thumbnail you see above isn't from Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It's modern work; it's what the Roddenberry Archive is trying to do.
The video scans like a wordless movie trailer. It's very surreal, with the only live characters being Colt and Spock, interspersed with a variety of alien landscapes and a bunch of images connecting various events from Star Trek's history. Even the title of the experience, "765874 - Memory Wall" is deep lore. The Wall of Memories was a sequence planned for Star Trek: The Motion Picture that was cut in development and replaced with the famous "Spock Walk" scene (where Spock rides a thruster suit into the heart of Vejur and witnesses a visual record of Vejur's entire journey). It's a fitting title!
These little trailers—these "experiences"—are wonderful. Like I said before, they are extremely surreal to me. I cannot overstate this. They mess with my brain powerfully, in both good ways and bad. This kind of experience is magical for me. They're a little bit like eating faerie crack I guess, lol. The videos are unsettling, compelling, and thoroughly engrossing. And I prize this, because this experience is very hard to come by for me. Not much can make me question my grip on reality, let alone in an area that I'm passionate about like Star Trek (I don't even dare to hazard a guess as to how many hard disk sectors of my brain are dedicated to Star Trek lore).
These Roddenberry Archive experiences depict past Star Trek media that never existed and will never exist, with incredibly lifelike representations. And they feature as their starring character, of all the characters they could have possibly picked, the profoundly obscure character of J.M. Colt, who I just so happen to have a lifelong fixation with. But this Colt never speaks in these experiences, and never appears on screen in any given shot for more than a moment, and we never really know what she's doing. And all the individual shots are so short that you can never fully get your grip on them...sort of as if you can't look directly at them. It's all a mystery!
You can perhaps see why this is so incredibly trippy for me. My brain parses this stuff as real pieces of past Star Trek media that I somehow missed, giving them the quality of dreams. Yes, that's it. These things are like dreams to me! Except they're real. Except not quite.
It's kind of a delight that, after all these years, J.M. Colt is just randomly appearing in the real world in glimpses of period-accurate Star Trek productions, just like I had always imagined. Giving Star Trek: The Motion Picture new life in this way, when the actual franchise completely ignores it, and making J.M. Colt the face of that...just wow! It's a little slice of "What if?" brought to life in the best way! And, albeit obliquely, if I squint hard enough it's almost like I can see my own Star Trek movie concept brought to life.
I wish the people doing this work would talk to the suits and buy a license to make an actual Star Trek movie or a Netflix miniseries or something!
There are several more of these audiovisual experiences, including a very recent video celebrating the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: Generations (which was just a couple days ago) by showing Spock visiting Kirk's grave. You can find them on the Roddenberry Archive website or in this YouTube playlist. (There's a wonderful interview with William Shatner in the playlist that I also watched yesterday, where he talked about some things that I'd never heard him talk about before, and I've seen a lot of Shat interviews.) And here's a wonderful feature article on the website of their technical partners, OTOY, with a lot more information about the project.
But, in closing...what a strange treat! What a surreal delight. And what a cool opportunity to share my own Star Trek movie idea (or at least a small piece of it) for the first time.

VT/P.I.E. Headcanon list!!
This is all my personal takes and opinions, I guess also are canon in my “au”/spin off.
If there’s any you like from this you can take inspiration or adopt any of these if you like them I will not mind <3
But if you don’t like some of these (which is fine bc you don’t have to), please be kind, especially since some of these are based off/inspired by personal experiences as well as some of my Headmates experiences (that I got permission to use as headcanons 🙏🏻) I just hope people won’t find some of these upsetting? I don’t think they are upsetting but sometimes difference of opinions can be distressing so I understand 🫂
Anyways here goes:
Toast and Ghost have a queer platonic relationship (this one might be a hot take but also we need more rep like this Imo 🙏🏻)
The Level 25 demon from Spooker’s debut video is the one that turned Ghost into the Puppet. (And was probably the one who put those FNAF ghosts in Swift Taylor’s house lol)
Another lvl 25 demon one: I like to think it pulled “a Bipper” (Gravity Falls reference yes) and used Spooker’s body, that’s why you see Spooker as a “ghost” but then later on was normal/living again. Also why we see Spooker in the dimension where Housekeeper is trapped and later towards the end of the Puppet arc in the crypt where Ghost sees him. (Also watch the Haunted by Pennywise video 😭) I don’t think the demon lives in Spooker’s body like how people think demon!Jimmy does though.
Speaking of Jimmy, he’s a very traumatized alter (I’m a system in case anyone is concerned by that 😭🙏🏻 )
Ghost has some supernatural abilities? And is sensitive to dimensional shifts that happen (which happens a lot considering how unstable their world is) as well as understanding lower level paranormal entities, and sometimes visions of specific events (reference to Spooker’s debut video and “Johnny Ghost meets Freddy the dinosaur” video) and a few others that Jimmy also takes advantage of. Also dreams. He gets weird dreams sometimes.
Gavin Toast speaks in an American Accent sometimes, originally to separate himself from his twin.
I’ve already mentioned Ghost being intersex and demisexual I think but still adding it.
Dark Pit’s disappearance after joining P.I.E. In its early days has something to with Darth Calculus…
Ghost had a fear of umbrellas as a kid.
The Lvl 25 Demon and Stardust Sprinkleshine are a divorced couple/hsrs
Toast paid Josh to keep an eye on Ghost during his retirement arc (reference to my comic Heart Attack xD)
Timothy Casket and Chakalata Soup may have been business partners… before ending in disagreement.
Gavin maybe an Acalacam experiment that was only found out later by Darth Calculus (Gavin and Johnny T.’s father never learning that it actually sort of worked.)
Toast’s mother hates Ghost, except nowadays tries to hire people to kill him so he stops spending time with her son but ofc he keeps coming back like a damn revenant lmao
Spooker and Colon are boyfriends (sorry this is a ship but like they literally kissed in the 5 yr anniversary stream and I dreamt about it so I have to acknowledge it)
Spooker did used to have a crush on boyfailure Johnny Ghost though
The reason the VT world is so scuffed and has so many dimensions is bc they all live in the shattered remnants of a broken world.
My fan comic Supernatural Crossover, and Sherlock crossover on wattpad are technically canon to my spin off (except for the Gravity Falls one that one is retconned but fun fact Timothy Casket is in that one and I’m reusing the ideas from it for other things)
Timothy Casket totally wasn’t a serial killer and also totally didn’t get his kid(s) involved traumatizing them and changing the course of their lives forever.
Ghost has a twin brother but that’s mostly for Strive SMP shenanigans
Cardboard Friend is made up of many souls of children that possessed a cardboard toy creation made by Gregory…
There’s a cult out there somewhere with significant importance.
Johnny Ghost also has lead poisoning and some other issues bc of the old mansion’s condition (the one from the first Cardboard Friend video)
Johnny Ghost is also really pale because Cardboard Friend ate off his life force and sanity but got away probably in the Nick of time probably bc of some permanent effects?? (probably why that video made no fucking sense bc it was from Ghost/Gregory’s perspective)
It’s actually really traumatizing to separate twins from each other while they’re young. So if you take into consideration that Johnny Toast and Gavin were probably not allowed to interact and Ghost being separated from his twin too, that makes Ghost and Toast two twinless twins that trauma bonded to each other which is probably why they have a lot of separation issues.
Colon is a witchcraft practitioner (reference to “Moving didn’t go as Johnny planned” video)
I also used to believe Colon is a retired undercover cop or detective but also like ACAB and I barely remember why I came up with that so idk if I’ll keep it but I definitely need more Colon headcanons
Josh is also hired to babysit Woah for Spooker and Colon from time to time :3
Josh also makes really good pumpkin pie (since she was a pumpkin farmer) Ghost also really likes this pie.
Also Spooker is trans and pan while Colon is gay (these ones are special bc it was from a dream)
I’ll also add the universally accepted hc that Toast is bisexual (and demiromantic??)
Josh is also bi and polyamorous (maybe a demi girl but not sure yet)
Ghost is on the Spectrum, (most of pie probably is but the one I’m confident on is Ghost at least)
Sometimes paranormal entities can sort of fuse and/or mesh together to sometimes become stronger (but can separate… sometimes) *cough cough the paranormal tornado cough cough and CBF cough cough*
And lastly Ghost is 5’4, Toast is 6’6, Spooker is 5’7, and Colon is 6’1 (Gavin is the same height as J. Toast and Josh is either 5’3 or 5’5 I haven’t decided yet 😭)
Okay I’m gonna stop there for now but if I remember anything that’s important to me I’ll add them in like a reblog to this post.
Sorry it’s so long! Also had to keep some of these vague to avoid… spoilers ig?
If you’re curious about any of these tho feel free to ask and I can talk more about ‘em!! :3 <3
Maybe I’ll share some more Acachalla related headcanons but not today
#LARRYDACAT VT HEADCANON BLAST!!!!!!!!!#yes I’m larrydacat#my old persona was in my spin off until she erased herself from the timeline and only Ghost remembers her <3#taleblr#venturiantale#venturiantale pie#larrydacat#larrydacat pie#larrydacat angst#johnny ghost#johnny ghost pie#venturiantale headcanons#jimmy casket#johnny toast#vt gavin toast#gavin toast#cardboard friend#strive smp#vt cardboard friend#vt spooker#vt colon#vt jimmy casket#vt johnny toast#vt johnny ghost#vt headcanon#vt au#vt spin off#vt parody#taleblr headcanons#I really hope people don’t start secretly despising me for some of these bahajskld/lh

System Error: Accidental Acquisition of Children
read it on AO3 at https://archiveofourown.org/works/65392936 by Frikisbits231 Error slid down, glued to the tree, his back to the ground, into the lush green grass on the ground. Later, he'd take a look at his current situation and possibly eliminate the place without a problem. Meanwhile, Error was resting, leaning against this comfortable, curvy tree, closing his eyes to feel something, something of the place. Feel... the familiar ambient magic? Still no monsters, humans, or standard souls around. Well, no one could hurt him if he got some rest, right? This time, he mentally prepared himself and repeated the safety tests he felt like a mantra so he could get some rest. He fell asleep shortly after. … Sweetness with hints of security, calm, and the tranquility of dawning rest captured his senses. Something... familiar. Like... like chocolate melting on his tongue. He didn't know how he recognized that either. Still, he pulled the tongue out of his space, to capture it. He caught the sensations, almost becoming overwhelmed by them. If one’s actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then he/she indeed is a great leader. History is saturated with the names of such transformational and charismatic leaders, who with their miraculous persona, created a lasting value in the world (Sharif 3). Such leaders are the jewels of humanity who were born with exceptional skills to inspire, motivate, influence and direct others. They indeed are the catalyst of change and of path breaking revolutions. All these leaders had an astounding power to lead the masses, bring out their emotions and begin a new era in the history of mankind. A leader is the one who motivates and influences his/her subordinates to attain the pre-defined goals (Hernandez et al. 1166). With this definition in mind, one can recognize a number of effective leaders; Alexander the Great, Nelson Mandela, Adolf Hitler, Asoka and Mahatma Gandhi etc. However, at the organizational level, Steve Jobs is undoubtedly the most legendary leader of the 21st century who transformed the world of information technology. 2. Steve Jobs Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs (February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011) was an American entrepreneur, innovator, leader and inventor, best known as the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc. Through Apple, he was widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution and for his influential career in the computer and consumer electronics fields, transforming one industry after another, from computers and smart phones to music and movies. Jobs also co-founded and served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios. He became a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, when Disney acquired Pixar. Steve Jobs was the one, who led to the creation of the Apple Lisa and, one year later, the Macintosh. He also played a role in introducing the LaserWriter, one of the first widely available laser printers, to the market. 3. Life History Steven Paul Jobs was born on 24 February 1955 in San Francisco, California, to an un-married couple who gave him up for adoption. He was taken in by a working class couple, Paul and Clara Jobs, and grew up with them in Mountain View, California. He attended Homestead High School in Cupertino California and went to Reed College in Portland Oregon in 1972 but dropped out after only one semester, staying on to "drop in" on courses that interested him (Hertzfeld 53). He took a job with video game manufacturer Atari to raise enough money for a trip to India and returned from there a Buddhist. Back in Cupertino, he returned to Atari where his old friend Steve Wozniak was still working. Read the full article

Hi! I'm so glad you're doing okay and hope things with urgent care went well. I hope March was good for you too! This month is almost over and went by pretty fast in my opinion. I can't believe it's already April. That's a really cute gift for your friend and inside joke to share though.
I do agree about TTPD and anthology feeling like they're pretty separate albums. I always wanted more info on the creation of them and how and why it's a double album. But the answer is probably simple..that she had a lot of songs m, or that was supposed to be the album before she wrote the first part that was more directly about what happened I guess. I'm happy to have all the songs though and just pick favorites now. I've always done that with Taylor though where I just play certain songs so it doesn't bother me as much. I understand why it bothers some people though, but everyone has different favorite songs too. I think her next album will be shorter with more of a theme though. I listened to Selena's album, and wondered if it would be similar to that theme and sound as well, and she also posted about it! I love their friendship so it made me happy too, but her album is just okay for me. Some people think it's already coming this year too, which seems crazy but she used 12 letters in her post which seems like a hint. The only reason I kinda agree is because she probably wants to move on from TTPD with a happier album I guess. As always, I would be happy and excited with anything we would get or if she wants to take a break of course. I'm not sure about the rerecordings anymore either. I have no idea when any of this would be though. What do you think?
I totally forgot about Japanese Breakfast's album and have been listening to that too. I was really excited for it and love the title lol but I still need time with it but liked every song mostly right away. I really enjoyed her last album too and the song Kokomo Indiana is one of my fav songs of all time. I think I might like the last album more for now but I still recommend it. Just know it's a softer album, almost similar to Soccer Mommy too. I wanna finish reading Crying in Hmart again too cuz I was almost done with it. I am going to listen to Tate's new album later today and will let you know my thoughts. I'll try to get to Alessi Rose too, who I've never heard of but always enjoy your recommendations. Her name reminds me of Alessia Cara who is also on my list by the end of the week which was funny to me. I'm also excited for Ariana's deluxe album coming on Friday, which I forgot to mention when we were talking about deluxes. I It reminded me of Gracie's too, which I never got to. I mostly think her songs are just catchy, like That's so True grew on me and so did Call me when you break up. Also hoping to fit in Lucy Dacus as well!
I am waiting to listen to Maybe Happy Ending until more cast albums get announced but I have enjoyed the songs I've heard from it which is about 3 or 4. Like I think Death Becomes Her announced one for middle of April so far. Idk if you can tell, but my listening seems to have a theme or similar artists grouped together. I still have to listen to Sunset Boulevard too, just to see Nicole's acting thru her singing I guess lol. Also Selena has a song on her new album named that and I think it was my favorite based on sound at least so that was funny. Operation Mincemeat has a London cast album I think so I finally heard a song from it and read the plot from a review so I guess I'm a little more interested in it now. Boop has released one song I heard and I'm not sure what I expected the music to be like but it was okay and kinda fits. She has a good voice and the look right at least based on the curtain call video al I have not been good at watching bootlegs or anything lately so I might try to look for some as it gets closer as well. You will have to tell me how it is if you do watch the Boop one, about the story and music. Smash...I read something that said Karen is not a newcomer and something about Ivy's death scene???which got changed..idk. I'm also curious about Redwood, Just in Time, and Floyd Collins but mainly because I am a fan of the three leads and that's all I know besides the basics lol. Wow it seems like a lot lol and have no idea about awards yet so I hope some cast albums are announced soon. I'm hoping there is something I could love eventually, like how I did with Outsiders last season even if it was late lol. They did announce the tour for SF sometime in 2026 which is still a while. I'm sorry you missed Waitress after all and am looking forward to The Notebook on tour and loving it as much as you do. I hope I can go to Parade just cuz I haven't been to a musical in a while, but I have concerts coming up.
Since it was Stephen Sondheim's birthday recently, I finally listened to his final musical called Here we Are, which was okay. But I thought I would ask what are some of your favorite songs by him? I think we talked about musicals but not songs specifically. I think your fav is Sunday and obviously mine is Sweeney Todd. I was reminded of it when you mentioned la grande jatte in the escape room. So I would pick Maria, Moving On, Johanna, Johanna Reprise, Epiphany, Losing My Mind, I Wish I could Forget You, Agony, Not a Day Goes By, and Being Alive. That's just off the top of my head lol and I know it's a lot but I took from each musical.
That's such a sweet and thoughtful gift for your mom's birthday. I would never thought of that and I'm sure it will turn out great..the scrapbook too. I'm not crafty at all and admire that about you haha. I'm much more into sweets generally too but would like to learn more. My sister is always watching recipe videos and trying to think of stuff to make but I find it pretty hard to even think of what to eat most of the time. I don't think I'm familiar with a lot of foods at all like cultural cuisine, and that's something she's trying to change too.
Ya I debated on Halsey too and almost didn't get tickets and only decided on it cuz it was the first show of the tour. I'm not even sure how we will get there but have time to figure it out. I'm sorry you can't go..I also have no idea what the vibe of her shows are really like either but I'm sure it will be fun! Like I think it will count as a bigger show and I'm used to small shows. Oh I'm glad you have concerts coming up too! When are the shows? Are they coming up soon? i'm adding these artists to my list, besides Sam Fender who i am familiar with. I assume you are a big fan since you're going to the concerts or did a friend ask you to go? Are they both singer songwriters or more acoustic cuz then it would be a smaller show. Do you prefer small concerts or bigger? I like small cuz you're usually closer but big concerts also have more energy. The Soccer Mommy show didn't have a lot of people singing which felt different, but that was also true at Zayn's show. its always more low-key if it's just one person but I feel like Halsey could be different even though it was a softer album. Haha no, green is more my second favorite..I usually say pink and like and wear it more so that's why, but I started liking green too. My sister also has two favorites. What's your second favorite? I know this was kinda out of order and maybe long and sorry if I missed some things but I'm wishing the best for you, and to have a nice weekend even if it's still a few days away.
hello friend!! i hope your april is going well! is there anything you're looking forward to? how've you been?
i cannot believe it's been almost a year since tortured poets — i do want to relisten and rerank on its one year anniversary. i listened to the selena album recently for one of my album of the days and i didn't love it, unfortunately — but i do really love call me when you break up (especially gracie's verse). i listened to japanese breakfast's new album on april 1st as well for AOTD, and i really liked it! i've been trying to get rid of some vinyls/not buy as much and so my ranking is like, if it's a 5 star i'd get the vinyl — i think it ranks somewhere between a 4 star and a 5 star for me, but i'd have to relisten to see if i love love it or if i'm fine just streaming! i loved crying in h mart, it's one of my favorite books and i always recommend it! let me know what you think of it 🤍 i also really enjoyed the ariana deluxe songs, and listened to the new lucy dacus album earlier — i didn't love lucy's new album but i don't think lucy dacus' music is particularly for me. i did really like best guess though!
i missed the death becomes her cast recording announcement, so i'm so excited you mentioned it! i'll definitely listen to it for one of my AOTD's. i haven't been doing a very good job of listening to cast recordings for that, so i do want to pick that up and be better about it. i'm super intrigued by mincemeat, and do want to listen to the cast recording so maybe i'll do that today! yeah :( everything i've heard about smash does not ... sound great. i'm honestly wondering how long smash has but haven't been following broadway world grosses as of late! i'm super intrigued by just in time (love erika), and also floyd collins (lizzy!) and kind of curious by redwoods (although i do not see redwoods lasting without idina and i think she's leaving in august?)
some of my favorite sondheim songs are move on, we do not belong together, someone is waiting, marry me a little, being alive, losing my mind, not a day goes by, franklin shepard, inc., and no one is alone! i listened to here we are when it first came out but should do a relisten soon!
i loveeee being crafty! and i also love exploring different cuisines. my friend put me on the beli app (like goodreads/letterboxd etc. but for restaurants) a while ago and i am obsessed with ranking restaurants and taking photos haha.
i ended up not going to sam fender, unfortunately! but i have two concerts in may (alix page & sara kays). both of them are smaller artists and i do enjoy them but i'm not a HUGE fan! just happened that my friend asked if i wanted to go to alix and i said sure, and bailey is coming for sara! they're both singer songwriters, and i think you'll enjoy both if you like gracie and lizzy etc (which i know you do!). i prefer smaller concerts, honestly, but they're usually GA and i am old and like seats haha.
my favorite colors are pink (mostly pale pinks but all pinks, really) and then blue and purple! but i wear a lot of blacks and navys and whites! and a lot of merch since i get to work from home!
no stress on length or time it takes to reply; i always love hearing from you and conversing 🤍 hope you're doing well and staying safe my friend!

Shadi Altaan became famous on the TikTok platform as a supporter of live broadcasts and car content creators, as we mentioned earlier, with the username: shadi.altaan and the nickname 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐃𝐈ᴬᴹᴳ أبو_السيارة_الزررركة#, and this hashtag has exceeded 2.2 billion views on TikTok platform . The reason for this nickname is due to two things: First, his support in broadcasts is in the form of blue car gifts, and second, he owns his famous car, which is also in its special blue chrome color and known on the platform. He also has many videos of his car pinned to his personal account 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐃𝐈ᴬᴹᴳ on the TikTok platform. His personal page on TikTok is known for its videos of his cars, the most famous of which is the "Zarqa" which mean the blue car, as we mentioned earlier, and many celebrities have made videos with the Zarqa car and published them on their official accounts on the platform, such as: the artist Yazan Al-Sayed and the artist Yasmine, and many artists have mentioned his name and title in their artistic works, such as: the artist Karam Al-Shaarani in the series “Ma Ekhtalafna” and others.
