VA/Bloodlines Headcanon #1

*I subscribe to the timeline that places Bloodlines series in '08/'09*

a/n: Enjoy my bullshit ramblings spurred on by heavy withdrawals from the series. Also I'd love to hear your takes on this!

October to December of 2008 was the height of the Palm Springs "family" outings. At least once a week someone was in charge of planning a weekend activity for the group. When it was Jill's turn she decided they would go see the upcoming movie that the girls in her fashion club were constantly brining up. Sydney was baffled at how difficult it was to get tickets to see it, but her being her she managed to get great ones at a decent time. What should have been a fun night suddenly became the most stress inducing experience of Eddie's life, as the group in fact was seeing Twilight (2008) opening night. Jill was mortified not only that she had dragged everyone here, but at the frankly offensive portrayal of Vampires. Sydney experienced the entire spectrum of human emotions whilst watching. Laughing at how insane it was, stressing for Eddie, psychoanalyzing Bella, and facing the abject horror of watching Bella and Edward make out while sitting next to Adrian. Eddie spent the entire night wired because every 3 seconds a group of teenage girls started screaming, and he had to manage the group alone as Sydney's brain short circuited right around the bedroom scene. Adrian was furious because 1) he was certain Jill did this on purpose and 2) he took it personally that Edward got his human girlfriend and he did not. Unlike everyone else, Angeline had the time of her life and on the car ride home proclaimed it as the greatest movie she'd ever seen (she'd seen approx. 5 at the time). Jill was banned from picking movies.

Bonus: The following year Adrian somehow convinced Sydney to be Bella and Edward for Halloween, and Declan was the apple.

I wish we could have seen a proper reaction from Angeline about Sydney and Adrian's relationship. I don't even recall any real nuance about her relationship with Trey lol but her parents are human and moroi!!! Sure she knows about how that's not accepted outside the keepers but man I wish we could have seen something

Chapter 6 Excerpt:

“Out late again, aren’t you?” said the familiar voice from under the wide brim of a sunhat. It took me a minute for the spirit muddling Lissa’s features to melt away as I recognized her past her disguise. Perfect! If not Sonya, Lissa was basically the next best thing.

“Au contraire, cousin,” I said, assuming the low profile would mean she wouldn’t want me spouting her name off in public. “I’m playing hooky from work right now. Day shift, remember?” 

“Liss is finally coming down to our level. Though I have to ask, is it more efficient if you two slack off together?” Came the quip from Lissa’s table-mate. I wasn’t surprised to see Rose’s disguise melt away either. It would be actually unhinged to let the Queen out completely unprotected. 

“I’m hardly slacking, Rose. Between summer session midterms and the council meeting this week I deserve chill time.” Lissa looked at me endearingly. “We haven’t had much time in ages to goof off together recently –”  

“Who said I was goofing off,” I said, emphasizing the haughtiness in my voice as I examined my fingernails. The last of the nail polish I’d let Jill try on me before she was kidnapped was flaking off. “I’ll have you know I just discovered a major breakthrough.”

The startled looks on their faces caused my facade to crumble and I cracked the cheekiest grin I could manage. 

“You got a dream through to Jill?” Lissa said, eyes lit up and bright in the glow of the morning sky. My grin faltered. A part of me wanted to tell Lissa that Eddie and Sage were mid-rescue opp, but I didn’t want Lissa to go off on me for keeping secrets. Or undermining her authority. Or letting Sydney traipse around off court grounds after begging her for asylum. Suddenly I was very nervous about how all of this was going to shake down once the rescue crew got back. Jill being found would earn us all a few bonus points, I told myself. We’d be fine. 

“No, unfortunately…” It was technically the truth. “But you’re looking at vaccine genius 2.0!” I said, still very pleased with my own findings. I didn’t even have to fake my shit eating grin as I unfurled the painting of Sydney and my color chart. 

At first they both just looked confused and, if I wasn’t mistaking it, concerned. 

“Um, not that its a bad likeness, but is that supposed to be Sydney?” asked Lissa. 

“I think he might have made it out of Sydney,” Rose said, peering closer at one of the clumps. “Though I don’t know what the blue shit is…”

“It's blood,” I said impatiently. They were missing the point completely. 

“You didn’t make it out of Sydney, right?” Rose said, leaning away to get a better look at me. “‘Cause I was joking before.”

some of my VA headcanons/AUs I choose to believe over canon

Rose is bi. Dimitri is bi. They are the ultimate bi power couple.

Dimitri was in love with Ivan at the time of Ivan’s death. That’s why the death hit Dimitri so deeply. Dimitri had taken leave for the first time in two years to visit his family and to try and get some distance between himself and Ivan in order to deal with the feelings he had for his charge. And that was when Ivan died, while Dimitri was actively trying to understand and reflect upon the extent he loved Ivan. So not only did Dimitri lose his best friend, but he lost the man he loved as well, which is why he blamed himself so deeply and shut himself off from others. 

Meanwhile, while on the run Rose and Lissa had a little thing going on. Neither really addressed it or labelled it, but they would often hold hands, kiss and cuddle together. They held deep feelings for each other. All alone, two vampire girls in a human world, they turned to each other for love, comfort and affection. It started one night when Rose woke up to one of Lissa’s nightmares through the bond, and climbed into bed with her. The spent all night cuddling.

Rose and Adrian never dated, and are instead the Chaotic Duo (as coined by @thegoldenlily​). Instead of their toxic relationship, they formed a solid friendship where they constantly called each other out on their bullshit (including the clown transformation).

Bloodlines, except instead of Angeline coming to guard Jill, Viktoria does instead. Like I love Angeline, but it just makes sense for Viktoria to be chosen instead. She’s someone that Rose knows and trusts much more than Angeline, and Viktoria can get an opportunity to explore the world beyond Baia. I just think it fits, especially because she would be arriving in Palm Springs with Dimitri and they would be there to support each other.

All plot holes can be fixed with Yeva or Abe meddling/withholding information theories. How did Rose and Lissa stay hidden while on the run? Because Abe had people watching out for them from a distance, and was leaking false leads to the academy search team. Dimitri didn’t know that Sonya was pregnant? Yeva informed the family that they weren’t allowed to tell him, and that he’d find out ‘in his own time’.

what do u think about angeline?

I honestly find her pretty annoying a lot. It's less against her character and moreso just how she acts. I get that she didn't grow up like most Dhampirs do so she doesn't exactly know how things work but it just seems like she didn't really care about what she was doing at Palm Springs nor the purpose. She wanted to do what guardians do, she should have some motivation to not mess things up but she was constantly getting into trouble when I just think she should have known better. She just acted very childish a lot through the series which was annoying.
