Opened Reddit by accident while trying to type in a bands youtube channel and saw this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/comments/1guhsm4/well_this_is_it_boys_i_was_just_informed_from_my/
Well this is it boys. I was just informed from my boss and HR that my entire profession is being automated away. For context I work production in local news. Recently there’s been developments in AI driven systems that can do 100% of the production side of things which is, direct, audio operate, and graphic operate -all of those jobs are all now gone in one swoop. This has apparently been developed by the company Q ai. For the last decade I’ve worked in local news and have garnered skills I thought I would be able to take with me until my retirement, now at almost 30 years old, all of those job opportunities for me are gone in an instant. The only person that’s keeping their job is my manager, who will overlook the system and do maintenance if needed. That’s 20 jobs lost and 0 gained for our station. We were informed we are going to be the first station to implement this under our company. This means that as of now our entire production staff in our news station is being let go. Once the system is implemented and running smoothly then this system is going to be implemented nationwide (effectively eliminating tens of thousands of jobs.) There are going to be 0 new jobs built off of this AI platform. There are people I work with in their 50’s, single, no college education, no family, and no other place to land a job once this kicks in. I have no idea what’s going to happen to them. This is it guys. This is what our future with AI looks like. This isn’t creating any new jobs this is knocking out entire industry level jobs without replacing them.
Don't ever let any AI-supporters try to claim that AI will 'never make people lose their jobs!' because it's already been happening before this, and now this thread is full of stories of people talking about people being laid off from jobs they'd worked for 40 years to be replaced by AI :/
*this* is why it is so important to not tolerate generative AI, even when it's "just a joke" or "for a meme" I'm just eternally greatful that Tumblr hasn't been completely swarmed with AI generated images the way facebook has...

Omega's Observations: Fire/Warning
Summary: Omega contemplates how others see his dynamic in Team Dark.
For @teamdarkweek. 657 words.
The assumption amongst the meatbags within the GUN organization is that Rouge and Shadow are his “minders”, and that Omega himself is some sort of crude automation incapable of processing anything other than “DESTROY ALL EGGMAN ROBOTS”.
Omega didn’t correct their assumption at first. (His mistake. One of very few he’s ever made.) It didn’t matter what any meatbag thought at the time- at least, according to his earliest assessments. Early assessments that were made only the first few weeks following his escape from Eggman’s imprisonment.
But now? The assumption that he is not an Ultimate Robot, that he is nothing more than a jumble of corrupted code crudely piloting the firearms on his frame? That he requires Rouge and Shadow in order to act or assess a situation?
It’s a rage second only to his rage against Eggman proper.
Killing everyone who turned and asked Rouge or Shadow about him whilst he was standing next to them would be a cathartic strategy, but it would also further the misunderstanding. Bystanders would assume that it was “an accident” and that he “didn’t mean it”, that he “was just programmed that way” and “didn’t fully grasp the consequences”.
There are other battlefields besides destroying Eggman robots, he has learned, and he will dominate them all. Even if it means not acting on his impulses. Even if it means playing these stupid games that meatbags invent for themselves, such as conversation and social standings.
Instead, he gives warnings. Violent, graphic warnings, about what he would like to do with their viscera. But warnings nevertheless. The Commander is still not pleased, but upon being given the explanation, he has accepted it as a suitable compromise.
Rouge is supportive. Shadow is. . . tolerant of it.
Not that their opinions would ever control him. That is an arrangement the three of them reached a mere few hours after meeting each other, and it is the reason they are the only ones he tolerates joining him on missions.
They are not his minders. They know this. They do not try to control his rampages. He fights alongside them, will destroy Eggman robots with them, but there is an understanding that if they find themselves disliking his methods they will withdraw, and leave him to it.
They have yet to leave.
Even greater, they have kept up. Enough for him to upgrade their designation from “temporary alliance” to “partnership”, then even to “teammate”. Shadow was a given- his destructive potential is second only to himself, and he understands the rage that drives him. Rouge was the unexpected party- yet as her strategic aptitude gave way to more and more victories, she too was proven to be an exceptional teammate.
Teammates. Not his minders. Not his leaders.
And yet. . .
The command to “fire!” is his favorite word to hear from them.
“Over here, Omega, fire!”
“Kick their asses, Omega! FIRE!”
Shadow and Rouge, not simply tolerating his talent for destruction, not covering it up, not waving it off or agreeing halfheartedly to get him to shut up about it. Not belittling him, or asking if he “cares about anything else”, or “jeez, you should find a hobby”, or “that isn’t what life is all about”, or any of the thousands of other things inane meatbags say in his general direction on a near-daily basis.
Shadow and Rouge simply ask him to fire.
Omega is not bound to their orders. Yet there is little greater joy he feels than when he rains hellfire down-range in response- and finds them looking so pleased about it. Something like satisfaction swells in his processor whenever they clap him on the shoulder or tell him “good shooting”. It is tinged with just enough of his own pride to keep him from investigating it any further.
He will never tell them about this.
Instead, he will ask “PERMISSION TO FIRE?”, if only to hear Rouge and Shadow urge him forward yet again.
#e-123 omega#rouge the bat#shadow the hedgehog#team dark#teamdarkweek#team dark week 2025 is a go!!!

sorry if you've talked about it already, but what is it that makes KOSA's idea of online safety wrong? I don't know much about the bill, what does it intend to do?
What do you think is a good way to protect kids from things like online predators or just seeing things that they shouldn't be seeing? (By which I mean sex and graphic violence, things which you'd need to be 16+ to see in a movie theater so I think it makes sense to not want pre-teens to see it)
From stopkosa.com:
Why is KOSA a bad bill? KOSA uses two methods to “protect” kids, and both of them are awful. First, KOSA would incentivize social media platforms to erase content that could be deemed “inappropriate” for minors. The problem is: there is no consensus on what is inappropriate for minors. All across the country we are seeing how lawmakers are attacking young people’s access to gender affirming healthcare, sex education, birth control, and abortion. Online communities and resources that queer and trans youth depend on as lifelines should not be subject to the whims of the most rightwing extremist powers and we shouldn’t give them another tool to harm marginalized communities. Second, KOSA would ramp up the online surveillance of all internet users by expanding the use of age verification and parental monitoring tools. Not only are these tools needlessly invasive, they’re a massive safety risk for young people who could be trying to escape domestic violence and abuse.
I’ve heard there’s a new version of KOSA. What’s the deal? The new version of KOSA makes some good changes: narrowing the ability of rightwing attorneys general to weaponize KOSA to target content they don’t like and limiting the problematic “duty of care. However, because the bill is still not content neutral, KOSA still invites the harms that civil rights advocates have warned about. As LGBTQ and reproductive rights groups have said for months, the fundamental problem with KOSA is that its “duty of care” covers content specific aspects of content recommendation systems, and the new changes fail to address that. In fact, personalized recommendation systems are explicitly listed under the definition of a design feature covered by the duty of care in the new version. This means that a future Federal Trade Commission (FTC) could still use KOSA to pressure platforms into automated filtering of important, but controversial topics like LGBTQ issues and abortion, by claiming that algorithmically recommending such content “causes” mental health outcomes that are covered by the duty of care like anxiety and depression. Bans on inclusive books, abortion, and gender affirming healthcare have been passed on exactly that kind of rhetoric in many states recently. And we know that already existing content filtering systems impact content from marginalized creators exponentially more, resulting in discrimination and censorship. It’s also important to remember that algorithmic recommendation includes, for example, showing a user a post from a friend that they follow, since most platforms do not show all users all posts, but curate them in some way. As long as KOSA’s duty of care isn’t content neutral, platforms will be likely to react the same way that they did to the broad liability imposed by SESTA/FOSTA: by engaging in aggressive filtering and suppression of important, and in some cases lifesaving, content.
Why it's bad:
The way it's written (even after being changed, which the website also goes over), it is still possible for this law to be used to restrict things like queer content, discussion of reproductive rights and resources, and sexual education.
It will restrict youth's ability to use the Internet independently, essentially cutting off life support to many vulnerable people who rely on the Internet to learn that they are queer, being abused, disabled, etc.
Better alternatives:
Stop relying on ageist ideas of purity and innocence. When we focus on protecting the "purity" of youth, we dehumanize them and it becomes more about soothing adult anxieties than actually improving the lives of children.
Making sure content (sexual, violent, etc.) is marked/tagged and made avoidable for anyone who doesn't want to engage with it.
Teach children why certain things may be upsetting and how best to avoid those things.
Teach children how to recognize grooming and abuse and empower them to stop it themselves.
Teach children how to recognize fear, discomfort, trauma, and how to cope with those experiences.
The Internet makes a great boogeyman. But the idea that it is uniquely corrupting the Pure Innocent Youth relies on the idea that all children are middle-class suburban White kids from otherwise happy homes. What about the children who see police brutality on their front lawns, against their family members? How are we protecting them from being traumatized? Or children who are seeing and experiencing physical and sexual violence in their own homes, by the parents who prevent them from realizing what's happening by restricting their Internet usage? How does strengthening parent's rights stop those kids from being groomed? Or the kids who grow up in evangelical Christian homes and are given graphic descriptions of the horrors of the Apocalypse and told if they ever question their parents, they'll be left behind?
Children live in the same world we do. There are children who are already intimately aware of violence and "adult" topics because of their lived experiences. Actually protecting children means being concerned about THEIR human rights, it means empowering them to save themselves, it means giving them the tools to understand their own feelings and traumas. KOSA is just another in a long line of attempts to "save the children!" by dehumanizing them and giving more power to the people most likely to abuse them. We need to stop trying to protect children's "innocence" and appreciate that children are already growing, changing people, learning to deal with discomfort and pain and the weight of the world the same as everyone else. What people often think keeps kids safe really just keeps them ignorant and quiet.
Another explanation as to why it's bad:

The Monetization System
This was going to be a deep dive into [wealth] and the history of the term and how [wealth] is not the same as [currency].
Then I figured... We already know what this is, right?
It's a simple transport system for getting goods with a [Per Diem]{per day costs} as a base line. And many people, who want money to be affected by the laws of Thermodynamics... That is; automatically, or Dynamically.
*It* {meaning the economy} isn't automatic. And the automation we use *isn't* beholden to the laws we have defined for it in our economic text books.
It's a system with which to move junk from one place to another utilizing human greed/need as the driving force. That's it.
And what keeps happening to this system is that it deviates from its intended purpose and shift towards that [greed] part of human greed/need.
If you think you can make an unlimited amount of money; you're sorely mistaken. If you think you can save an unlimited amount of money; the banks are still gonna lend yours out, because we need that money to move the economy.
Those things drive up costs and reduce the effectiveness of our economic structures. I've been deliberating on what the other side of the economic issues are; or aren't; and I'm definitely missing pieces of this puzzle. But I wouldn't expect congress to be able to tell me what they are.
Because I think this is the definition that *most* Americans have arrived at.
So what happens when the economy encounters a stutter or blockage like it tends to do every 5-10 years? Turn it off and back on again until we need to do so again?
The issue with that is that it doesn't reset anything, so nothing changes. Lots of corporate $$ invested into ensuring their systems boot up a certain way and shutdown another.
So turning it off and back on again won't affect the cache-clearing-need. And they're definitely uses quick boot tech... Which further restricts how much data needs to be reloaded, and often causes issues on a home PC.
I dunno if you've ever been stuck in the endless update of doom. It's part of the reason.
It's why you need to maintain your shit.
So we know these things should be able to be reset AND WE KNOW; Corporate and government interests from both sides (Fed, Banks, Every Financial Whatever) because they want to ensure a certain data integrity and less-breaking.
Creating a situation where the [breaking] that needs to be done, cannot be done. This kind of breaking is closer to an [reorganization] or a [spring cleaning].
How interesting.
They can't change it because they don't want it to deteriorate, or worse; lose transaction records.
So. Since [that] is *always* going to be broken, and everybody agrees it does not need to broken further; we need a way to distribute resources to where they need to go when the economy starts trickling down to a stop.
And, actually, a lot of this might already be covered in economic and farming and supply chain documentation.
Which is likely in place to ensure there are no food shortages even when your favorite [snack] isn't on the shelf.
So how do we consolidate all *that* information into a single document that can reference the other documentation?
And then use it to ensure that we counteract inflation for things that may not have reason to [inflate] not limited to [decreased demand] and [increased availability of resources].
At the same time; there's a recurring disruption in our tech sectors related to the price of Video Cards; which are attributed to Crypto and AI.
Which changes the target audience of our [graphics cards] from [work and hobby] to [throwing as much resources as Crypto and AI as we possibly can]
On the surface it looks like a drop in available resources. But that's *not* the case, it's a rise in demand for support towards a specific kind of technology that is both wasteful, and poorly implemented.
Not that it isn't useful; but the *kind* of increased demand we see in the tech sector has a direct correlation to both Crypto and AI, and includes how they're implemented, who's implementing them, and what restrictions they're taking account of to ensure a waste of [wan-internet] resources.
[wan-internet] is a term to describe the [world wide web] when restricted by region.
The [wan-internet] in this depiction is exactly like how you would think of a power plant. Not including the power demand, all power on the internet (especially by region) affects everybody else online currently.
And with the increased internet adoption rates; were *more* likely to see a huge adoption for more skilled tech experts AND increased demand and resource drain until the bubble itself either collapsed or decompresses.
Anyway; unless people get their butts into gear, the economy is likely to take a turn for the worse and increased intervals until the general population loses interest in generic AI and Crypto use-cases.
Which is why I'm making this suggestion.
We need a way to move resources where they need to go, or even people to where there is available (AFFORDABLE) housing should they have need. (Across the country, if it needs to be.)
So in order to curtail that inevitability; we need alternative ways to affect our economic and supply chain systems that are not directly tied to financial support arms.
And a way to charge developers creating WAN and maybe not paying their fair share towards resource generation (electricity) which a big difference from simply asking somebody to pay their taxes.
It may mean they don't know that the apps they create [wan apps specifically] how much affect that will have in their user's bottom line.
Or even that of their non-users... Since it congests all of our networks anyway!

Photopea: How to batch resize square icons (101)

I personally use photoshop for most of my graphics need, but I know that this is not an option for a lot of folks, and I've decided to make a couple of RP specific tutorials using Photopea (free, web based, no software to install) and Krita (free, install required).
This first post is for Photopea.
You can grab your screenshots of comic books (for instance) with picpick or another software that allows you to screengrab specific shapes / pixel sizes. I use picpick (I purchased pro for my use, but if you don't intend to do sell your icons you may use the free version. It is as complete as the paying version) to screen grab at 150x150px. Tutorial from RPCheapos here. (For live action/animated, I recommend using "free video to jpg converter" for better results)
Now on to the resizing (Very Easy To Do imo) with a bunch of screen shots to show you the steps.
First step is to open www.photopea.com. You can create an account if you'd like. As it is a free site that lives thanks to ads, I would recommend turning off adblocker for this specific site.
Click File > Automate > resize image:
It will open a little pop up called "Resize". Click on Source Images. They're your screen grabs that you want to resize to a smaller size:
Caveat: I never tried more than a hundred screenshots at once. So do with that what you will. I've read posts of folks who have issues if they put too many pictures into photopea at once, but I never experienced that type of issues.
Once your images are loaded:
Change the parameters to your desired width/height. Note: it does NOT crop. If your screen grabs aren't square now, they won't be square after! Also select your favored format (I favor PNG over JPG: higher quality & supports transparency if needed)
After you click resize, it will open a popup in order to save your newly resized icons into a zip folder. Save it wherever you'd like with a name that talks to you, unzip the file, and now you have your resized icons!
This is pretty powerful but also! pretty limited. No cropping, no coloring, no sharpening, etc. But it is a good jumping point imo when you get started and just want all your icons to be the same size.
Take care, and sprinkle sparkles in your life!

The Enemy of My Enemy
Summary: When your home port suddenly claims a ban on pirates docking there, you and your rival are forced to join forces. Characters: Kim Hongjoong + Gender Ambiguous Reader; ft. ATEEZ members Genre: Fantasy Short Series (part 1) with a bit of Angst (and possible fluff in later parts) Tropes: pirate!AU, enemies to friends (to lovers in a later part), working together against a mutual enemy Word Count: 2.9K Contains: pirate-related violence (explosions, knives, injury, blood, etc), betrayal, cursing, mention of death and loss of limbs, homoromantic undertones for certain characters (nothing explicit or confirmed), use of 'sir' as honorific without gendered undertones
A/N: support banner by @cafekitsune ; pirate divider by @firefly-graphics 🤍
You aren't new to discrimination, not by any means. However, that didn't stop you from getting blindsided as you tied your ship to its usual post at the port.
"This ship and its crew are unwelcome in this port." A stern, deep voice booms from behind you, loud enough to gather the attention of everyone nearby - all but yours, at least.
As you finish tying the knot and stand up, you feel the figure looming directly behind you. You hadn't the slightest thought that they were speaking of your wondrous Moon Raider, not after the past three years of ensuring that your crew respected the port and its customs.
Turning, you ask the man, "What ship is unwelcome, exactly?"
Although you wanted to hide your irritation, your crew noticed. The man also must've noticed since he clears his throat harshly before responding with a tone rivaling that of an automated robot.
"Any and all pirate ships have been banned from docking on our port. Leave immediately or face the consequences."
Your irritation morphs into booming laughter, "We always pay any fines you assign us. What's with the extra formality this time around?"
As you mimic his stature, you notice another officer walking past your boat's position. You watch him announce the same rehearsed statement to the captain there as he hops out to anchor his ship to its post. However, rather than offering him a chance to leave, he grabs his arm, locking him into constraints instantly. At this point, you realize the gravity of the situation, but it's all too late. As you're focused on the Sun Howler, the officer in front of you approaches and places restraints on you. You call out to your crew, reminding them to stay calm and follow all the rules.
Dragging your rival, the other officer follows behind as you walk with your officer silently. Trying to remain calm, you attempt to calculate why this may happen. Although you may not follow all the rules perfectly, everything worked out up until now. And, although you may not enjoy competing with him, you know Captain Hongjoong plays fair just like you. For the harbor police to arrest you both, there's really only one option: new port ownership. Although this was your first time back to the dock in months, you hadn't expected such a drastic change.
Reaching the prison, the officers shove you both into a cell together. Through the bars, they remove your cuffs.
"You sure we won't kill each other in here?" You joke, screaming at their backs as they leave, entirely unfazed by your comment.
"I think they'd prefer it," Hongjoong scoffs as he taps on the sheath on his hip, "Otherwise, they'd at least remove our obvious weapons."
Cursing, you sit down with your back against the cold brick wall. Fidgeting with the frayed fabric on the thigh of your pants, you wonder if the situation could get any worse.
"What'd you do, Raider?" He prompts, using your boat as your name, somewhat of a custom between you.
"Nothing here. Not in a long time. We've been gone for three months time. What of you, Howler?"
You look up to see him leaning against the opposite wall, arms crossed and one foot laid over the other. He shakes his head, and - although his hat covers his face - you can imagine how hard the cogs turn in his head to analyze the situation.
"It wasn't like this when I left either. We've only been gone about seven weeks. How'd something happen so quickly?"
After a long period of silence, you hear footsteps approaching. Even simply seeing their shoes, everything clicks for you. You can tell Hongjoong understands as well, as you can sense him tense up.
"Hongjoong.Y/N. What an amazing situation for us to reunite."
The callous tone pricks at your skin, leaving goosebumps in its stead, but you refuse to give them the satisfaction of a reaction. Your cellmate, however, is far too quick to anger to stop himself. He leans against the bars as he curses at the person who once sailed the seas opposite you both.
"The fuck is going on, Wooyoung?! Why in hell's name are you standing there high and mighty while we're stuck in a damned cage in this cellar?!"
Hands up by his head, Wooyoung stifles a laugh, "Quite aggressive now, aren't we? I know we were rivals on the sea years ago, but it looks like I won out."
"Sell out. Traitor. Fucking turncoat."
This time, he allows his laugh to echo through the prison. Cockily, he steps closer to Hongjoong, leaning in just barely out of reach.
"Does it matter what I did if I won? You look pathetic, Captain."
With this comment, you interject, "This is why you never had a loyal crew, you know. Your ego got in the way and Topaz Shields lost out because of it. Such a gorgeous ship, too. So sad. How's the leg?"
Knowing he wanted to hit below the belt, you remind him of his greatest tragedy by asking about his leg. Due to his ego, he drove his ship directly into the sirens' call and barely escaped with his life. He lost his loyal-to-a-fault first mate that day two years ago, all because he couldn't stand the thought of the other two crews finding a sacred treasure before him.
"Don't you dare mention Shields, Raider. The leg was the least of my troubles, and you know that much."
"Right, right. Pardon my impertinence. How could I forget that you lost your boyfriend as well?"
Trying to hold his composure, he reminds you that San was only ever his first mate, nothing more. Despite what everyone knows to be true thanks to their actions and Wooyoung's immediate reaction to the man's untimely death, he has denied his feelings since the incident - something to hide behind to lessen his feelings of guilt for causing his death.
"Well, whatever the case, I've come here to alert you that we'll be charging you for crimes against the city through your illegal market dealings and disregard for the laws of the area."
Hearing a former pirate captain charge someone for essentially being a pirate feels laughable, but you simply ask for the price point of said charges.
"Oh, no price for this one, Y/N. You both have been sentenced to time in jail equal to that of your career length. For you, that's three years; Hongjoong, you have 4."
Quick to react once again, Hongjoong unsheaths his dagger and swings it through the bars. It cuts Wooyoung on the lower part of his cheek, but the sound is far more intimidating than the actual damage.
Bringing his hand up to his face, Wooyoung smirks as he sees his red-stained fingertips. You keep a hand on your weapon, worried he might lash out against you both, but he simply turns to walk out.
"Enjoy your years. Once you return, there will be no Sun Howler. No Moon Raider. No pirates." He doubles down with his irritating remarks by waving his hand nonchalantly as he turns the corner.
As soon as the click of his footsteps fades to silence, Hongjoong drops into a squat. He curses Wooyoung and grumbles about the ridiculous sentencing. Seeing him freak out like this makes you giggle. He's usually light and free, the shining sun amongst a hoard of disheveled and mangled captains. You share that commonality with him - you've never quite been one for abandoning health and presentation, even if that's what many people picture when imagining pirates. The crews from this port rarely saw those kinds of pirates, not when the three captains who called this place home were you, Hongjoong, and Wooyoung. So, seeing one of these captains falling apart on the floor while cursing and swinging at someone makes you wonder how quickly you could also fall apart.
Shaking your head to rid yourself of those thoughts, you break the silence, "What's the plan, Howler?"
He looks at you dumbfounded, "Plan?"
"The escape plan? Ain't no way I'm letting that one-legged chicken act all high and mighty like that. We aren't gonna sit here and accept years of punishment for things he once did with us."
Suddenly recognizing escape as an option, Hongjoong stands up straight. You see a fire burning in his eyes and tricks within his crooked smile. He twirls the dagger around carelessly as he paces in the small box of a cell. With his newfound joy, he examines the bars, the lock, and every crevice that might be used to thwart Wooyoung's scheme and escape from the prison.
"I think this calls for a good old-fashioned bust out. Unless you think you can pick the lock from in here."
You approach the bars, trying to find the perfect angle to see what you need on the lock. However, you can't find the necessary parts to allow you to pick it from awkward angles. Turning to your cellmate, you shake your head.
"Bust out it is. Not as quiet, but it gets the job done all the same." He reaches into the inner pocket of his coat and pulls out a small trinket about the size and shape of a pocketwatch, which confuses you. He must be able to read the confusion on your face, because he explains, "My first mate loves to tinker, and he's made some marvelous contraptions. Stand back at the bars and watch."
Listening to his advice, you stand flush against the metal bars, the cold bleeding through your clothing to leave your skin feeling fresh. He stands next to you, flips the gadget open and closed quickly, and tosses it to the opposite side of the cell. When it connects with the wall, you hear a clicking noise and instinctively close your eyes. In that short moment, you feel Hongjoong move from beside you to in front of you. With the cold on your back and the warmth from his body closely in front of you, you barely process the explosion. When you open your eyes, you see the captain boxing himself around you, framed by the outside light streaming in. You assume it's around midday from how strongly it enters the room, and you try to look anywhere that isn't directly at Hongjoong's face.
He clears his throat as he steps back, "Sorry. I didn't want debris flying into your chest or anything."
Noticing him fiddling with his shoulder, you quickly thank him before asking if he's injured. Although he blows it off, he refuses to turn around, so you know debris likely lodged itself into his upper back. You decide not to fight it until you reach the docks, so you simply make your way over the rubble and out into the sunlight, letting him follow behind to hide his injuries.
Despite the explosion, nobody seems interested when you walk past. The only looks passed your way feel like those typical for known pirates walking around. As you reach the docks again, your crew quickly catches sight of you and rushes off the ship. You're glad that they make it to you long before his crew can see you.
"Mingi, can you tend to him? We blew our way out of jail, and he got hit with debris. He's acting like he's fine, but drag him aboard anyway."
Hongjoong tries to argue, but Mingi ends up behind him and sees the injury. With your first mate yelling at him for hiding it, he can't help but walk onto the Moon Raider for medical help. As he passes you, you sneak a glance at his back and see the top left corner of his otherwise tan shirt torn and stained dark red already. Trying to figure out the trajectory of the rubble, you place your hand on your right shoulder and vow to find Hongjoong a new shirt as thanks for blocking it from hitting you.
After reassuring your crew that everything will be okay and joking that you may be fined for the massive hole in the prison wall, you make your way past your prized ship. Approaching Sun Howler, you receive a much colder reception. Bowing before the ship, you address the first mate.
"Quartermaster of Sun Howler, I wish to inform you that your captain is currently aboard the Moon Raider receiving medical care from my crew. He protected me during an explosion of his creation, so I took it as my role to aid him with our supplies. He will be fine, and we will send him to you once his wound is properly dressed."
As you raise your head, you notice an exceptionally pretty man standing about ten feet in front of you. He nods as you acknowledge him before thanking you for taking care of his captain. You weren't expecting someone who could shine in his own respect to be Hongjoong's right hand, but hearing him speak makes you understand exactly why he would be in such a position. A voice that rivals one of a siren, the grace in his speech patterns, and his subtly decorated uniform all suggest a royal background. You begin to wonder whether he was a runaway or kidnapped and assimilated.
"Stop gawking at Seonghwa, Raider. Don't go stealing someone else's first mate." Hongjoong struts up to you, shirtless other than the bandages circling his chest, back, and shoulder blade.
Although Seonghwa laughs at the comment and explains the situation, Hongjoong doesn't back down in his jests, pointing out Seonghwa's obvious beauty.
"Sometimes, even I swear you're a siren. Even royals don't typically look and sound as good as you. You sparkle, Hwa." He reaches the boy as he talks, placing a hand on his shoulder to emphasize his final sentence.
"Captain, stop with the flattery. A first mate is never as wonderful as the captain, and yet you forbid us from saying those types of comments towards you."
Feeling out of place in the interaction, you quietly excuse yourself and begin walking back to your ship, but Hongjoong calls after you, "Y/N, let's find a new port together."
You try not to react, but the comment makes you trip over the air by your feet. You hope that they don't notice while you continue walking, making your way to your ship to break the news to your crew that you need to find a new home base and likely won't be able to return. Some crew members are quick to show their anger towards Wooyoung, but you reassure everyone with one simple claim.
"If we've done everything we can and they still don't want us here, we shouldn't want to stay either."
You explain how there likely isn't any time for goodbyes since the police likely won't waste time chasing you down again, so you work towards setting sail immediately. Luckily, your crew instinctively filled up on supplies while you were stuck in the cell, so there isn't much left to do.
"Cap'n, there's someone requesting to talk to you. Should we allow him aboard?" A member screams across the ship.
"Who is it?"
"Captain Hongjoong of Sun Howler, sir."
"Let him board."
As your new companion faces you, you address him properly and lead him into your chambers. Motioning to the nearest chair at your desk, you drop the formalities in the privacy of the room. Dragging out another chair to sit in front of him, you ask about the plan. As he recounts the pirates and their known home ports, you deduce that the safest plan would be to sail north, up the coast to the city rivaling this one.
"Won't they shun us away?"
"Didn't you and I once shun each other away and brace this port together regardless? Or what of Wooyoung taking over this city to shun us away from here?"
Nodding in acknowledgment, Hongjoong confirms, "So, we head north? Stop at each port we come across?"
"We might end up too close if we do that. Does your crew have the supplies to sail safely for a week before finding a port? I don't want to taunt Shields too soon; I want to be ready to fight back."
Uncertain of Wooyoung's response to your escape, the captain agrees to meet again in a week's time. After the seventh sunrise, they will look for the closest port. In case of landing at different ports, you agree on a plan to find one another via smoke signals and a trail of coded notes. To stay one step ahead of potential enemies, you assign each other new aliases to use in the notes, basing the initials on the boats' names and their respective quartermasters: Sea Heist Sails and Mightly Reel Mast.
After agreeing on the specifics, you shake Hongjoong's hand and wish him luck on his journey. Leaving you with a quick show of comradery in smiling and claiming that he'll see you in a week, he heads back to the Sun Howler to untie her and set sail. Following his lead, you untie Moon Raider and instruct Mingi to head north, staying near the coastline if possible.
As you drift out of the port, you hear a commotion behind you. Eyes drawn towards the ruckus, you see Wooyoung red-faced and angrily yelling at his guards. As he flails his arms in the direction of your ship, he makes direct eye contact with you. With a smug smile on your face, you remove your hat in a mocking salute, signaling to the man that you've won this round without breaking a sweat.

So was my father before he and his entire department were fired and replaced by a third party contractees from India.
I'm genuinely curious, your work in graphic design, do you see it as something you're proud of? Do you see value in your work?
My entire family is full of artists. They're all lucky enough to have earned their careers in a time when the worst thing that could happen was to be replaced by cheaper international labor like my father was (he's a janitor now and suffers terrible physical pain from his job)
Do you feel prepared in the event you lose access to your industry and career? How would you feel if you were forced to pursue another job because you were "replaced" not even by a human, but by an AI that was considered "better" than you?
I can tell you on my end I've heard loud rumblings that corporate wants to automate out most people in my department. I've taken proactive measures to clarify the necessity of real people in my work position and actually found a sympathetic ear from the VP of my company.
That support from the VP happened *because* I complained and spoke up. Maybe I'll get replaced anyways, but I won't have taken it without standing up for myself the best and most professional way I could. Have you taken steps to protect yourself and people you've worked with?
Surely you care enough about yourself and others to realize that its actually possible to affect change, however big or small, by actually standing up for yourself?

Static vs Dynamic Lighting Modes in LED Bar Fixtures
Explore the essentials of static vs dynamic lighting modes in LED bar fixtures. Learn how to choose between fixed-color and animated effects, with insights on setups and creative applications.
A creative workspace blending static and dynamic LED bar lighting modes in real time.
Introduction
LED bar fixtures are versatile lighting tools found in stages, events, and creative spaces. Whether they’re used for ambient illumination, spot washes, or visual accents, they typically support two main operation modes: static lighting (steady, fixed color) and dynamic lighting (animated, effect-driven). Understanding the differences between these modes is essential for crafting immersive light setups.
A Brief Historical Lens
Lighting has evolved dramatically over the decades. Early stage and event lighting relied on static, incandescent fixtures, limited to single hues and manual operation. With the rise of LEDs and digital control systems like DMX and Art‑Net, fixtures gained pixel-level control and dynamic sequencing. This shift parallels developments in other creative tech: just as audio moved from analog to immersive spatial sound, lighting transitioned toward expressive, software-driven setups.
What Is Static Lighting?
Static lighting modes deliver a steady, unchanging output. Think: a solid blue wash over a dance floor or focused white light on a lectern. This mode emphasizes:
Consistency: Maintains a color or intensity without variation.
Simplicity: Ideal for straightforward setups with no programming.
Energy use: Generally stable, often draws slightly more power than pulsed modes.
For creative use, static modes work well when ambient balance or visual neutrality is needed—say, during a speech or calm interlude.
What Is Dynamic Lighting?
Dynamic lighting modes feature movement, transitions, and timed changes. Modes include chases, fades, strobes, color cycles, pixel-mapped effects, and sound-activated sequences. Dynamic lighting works through pulsed or programmed control—either locally using built-in memory or externally via control protocols.
Why does dynamic work?
Energy efficiency & longevity: Pulse-mode operation can reduce overall power draw and limit stress on the light source.
Creative flexibility: Fine-grain control enables sync to music, live scene changes, and animation across a fixture or multiple fixtures.
Static vs Dynamic: Side-by-Side
Static lighting delivers a steady ambiance, while dynamic effects create motion, mood shifts, and energy.
For example, a DJ booth might benefit from static lighting during set transitions and dynamic lighting during peak performance moments.
Use Case Scenarios
1. Ambient Design vs Peak Performance
Static lighting delivers a balanced, undistracted backdrop for workshops or speaking events. On the flip side, dynamic sweeps and color shifts create energy at music events—festive moments, dancefloor peaks, or theatrical reveals.
2. Pixel Mapping & Content Integration
Dynamic modes support pixel mapping—mapping content across fixture segments to form visuals, patterns, or graphics. Ideal for projections, AV syncing, or themed visuals.
3. Control Workflow
Wired systems offer reliable syncing and external control.
Onboard modes simplify setup with built-in automated or sound-reactive presets.
Hybrid systems allow manual fallback if the main controller fails.
Working with knowledgeable audio and lighting shops ensures gear aligns with specific performance needs.
Practical Setup Tips
Power management: Chain fixtures carefully; dynamic pulsing can draw varied currents, so calculate power load accordingly.
Signal integrity: Use proper cabling and termination to avoid signal dropouts during live use.
Flicker awareness: Low-frequency pulse effects may be visible on camera or cause eye strain under certain conditions.
Mounting and aiming: Raise and angle bars properly to reduce glare and maintain control console visibility.
Beyond the Basics
Modern lighting setups might include tunable white or CCT-adjustable bars, offering both static warmth and dynamic white shifts. These are especially useful in applications like gallery installs, wellness centers, or adaptive indoor environments. They're a strong bridge between fixed color settings and dynamic adaptability.
Which Mode Is Right?
Choose based on:
Intensity of effect: Dynamic modes shine in high-energy contexts like concerts, while static is sufficient for background or utility lighting.
User readiness: Static suits users with minimal programming experience; dynamic suits require more setup.
Budget: Dynamic-ready kits may cost more upfront, but add value for performance-driven use.
In many real-world applications, blending delivers the best of both worlds—control and expression.
Conclusion
The interplay between static and dynamic lighting modes defines the versatility of LED bar fixtures. Static modes offer steady tones ideal for consistent ambiance, while dynamic modes open the door to animation, transitions, and custom light shows. As lighting control continues to advance, understanding these modes becomes foundational for creative expression.
Both static and dynamic options serve their place in the creative toolkit. Start small experiment with a few lighting scenes, mix modes, and explore timing. Learning these fundamentals builds toward more immersive, intelligent lighting designs.
Lighting isn’t just about visibility—it’s part of storytelling. The more refined the control, the more room there is to shape the experience. Whether building a compact studio or managing a larger venue, knowing how and when to use each mode leads to smarter, more effective setups.

5 Smart Image Optimization Tips to Boost Your Photography Portfolio Website

A photography portfolio is your digital first impression—and while high-quality visuals are a must, slow-loading images can ruin the experience. If your website takes too long to load, visitors may leave before they even see your work. That’s why optimizing images is essential for both performance and SEO.
Here are five key image optimization strategies that will help you create a fast, professional, and search-friendly photography website.
1. Choose the right file format Using the correct file format ensures that your images load quickly without compromising quality. JPEG is ideal for most photos, offering good compression with minimal quality loss.
PNG is ideal for images that need transparent backgrounds or precise, sharp edges, such as logos and graphics. WebP, supported by most modern browsers, offers superior compression, reducing file sizes even further—often 25–35% smaller than JPEGs while maintaining clarity. By selecting the right format, you improve load times and enhance site speed.
2. Resize images to display dimensions Don’t upload images in full resolution unless absolutely necessary. Large files from your camera—often 5000px wide or more—are much bigger than most screens display. Resize your images to match the dimensions they’ll appear on your site, such as 1200px or 1920px wide. This significantly reduces file size and improves page load speed. Use tools like Photoshop, GIMP, or online editors to resize before uploading.
3. Compress images without losing quality Compression reduces file size while preserving visual quality. Tools like TinyPNG, JPEGmini, or ImageOptim can cut down the size of your images without making them look blurry or pixelated. For WordPress users, plugins like ShortPixel or Smush automate this process. Always test the image quality after compression to maintain a balance between speed and visual impact.
4. Use SEO-friendly filenames and alt text Search engines can't interpret images without context. Rename files like IMG_0101.jpg to something descriptive, such as sunrise-over-grand-canyon.jpg. Also, add alt text that describes the photo accurately—for example, “Landscape view of the Grand Canyon during sunrise.” This boosts image SEO, helps visually impaired users, and improves your chances of appearing in Google Image Search.
5. Enable lazy loading and use a CDN Lazy loading defers the loading of images until they come into the user’s view, boosting the page’s initial load time and improving user experience. Most modern platforms include this feature or offer plugins. Additionally, use a Content Delivery Network (CDN) like Cloudflare or ImageKit to serve images from servers closest to your visitors. This significantly speeds up loading, particularly for users around the world.
Conclusion Optimizing your images is essential if you want your portfolio to load fast, rank high on search engines, and impress your audience. These five tips—choosing the right format, resizing, compressing, adding SEO-friendly text, and using performance tools like lazy loading and CDNs—will elevate your site’s speed and visibility. Make your work shine online without slowing things down.
