for the ask game: 4, 16, 17, 21, 30 🫶🏻
Ty so much my friend!!! Ily!! 💕💕💕
Answering questions from this post!!! 💗
4. If your Tav was a companion, where would they be found? I answered this one in this post, but here it is again!! 😊 I think if you could find her after the crash, she'd most likely end up down the beach a ways, sitting on the dock next to the dead fishermen, looking out at the water. She'd be trying to get her bearings and possibly even a little tearful, figuring out that she's "not in Kansas anymore". 😂 She'd be very thankful to the player for finding her and will hang on to their every word about this new world she's in, and I feel like some mischievous options would be misleading her and telling her stupid stuff to take advantage of her unfamiliarity. Unless you dismissed her and were just poking fun, she'd laugh afterward and scold the player for messing with her, but would most likely get an approval if the player is apologetic. 😂 Asking her to join the player's party would give you an approval, and she'd be so relieved, most likely forming a bond from that moment where she'd do anything to help the player character and try to be a useful asset despite her disadvantages. If resorting to dismissing her and leaving her on the beach, she'd probably nod and close in on herself and say "I'd not be of much help anyway... thank you for telling me where I am, at least." and I think that'd be the end of her lol. I'd like to think she'd make it to the Grove, but from then on, she'd most likely just end up abandoned and turned into a mind flayer without the protection of the astral prism.
16. Do they have a favorite creature in Faerun? I think at this moment in time, Ofelia hasn't seen many creatures, but her favorite so far would probably be the deep rothe 💖She thinks they're sweet 💗
17. Do they enjoy life as an adventurer? Right now- no, lol. She was thrust into this against her will and being so "bad" at it, she would probably give anything to reverse the situation and be back home. Over the course of the story, she'll realize that this is where she really belongs and be glad that it wasn't all just a bad dream 💖
21. What is your Tav's favorite spell? Definitely bardic inspiration!!! She loves to embolden the other's with power and, it's also my favorite because I get to write in the songs that'll help set the tone of the scene! 💖
30. What's your favorite thing about your Tav? My favorite thing about her is her loyalty and love. She'd honestly do anything for the people she loves, and that extends to helping each of the companions on their personal quests and seeing them through to the end. She has such a deep well of compassion and determination in her that I almost envy, and hope that I can reflect even a fraction of in my lifetime. 💗 I like writing her in a way that makes her heroic and cursed with empathy- she's no badass, she's not experienced, and she's not some insanely capable fighter. Her strongest trait is that love, and it makes up for the places that she lacks in, even if she can't see that and sometimes tries to supplement that with bad, risky decisions all for the sake of the ones she cares about.
Thank you for these questions, my friend!!! 🥰💖 Ilysm and I'm so honored for the ask!! 🫂

I've been working on making an OC for Baldur's Gate 3. Whilst doing so I've been looking at a LOT of lists with character development questions. I decided to make a document where I compiled and categorized them.
The questions can work for other Original Characters as well! DnD is something that comes to mind :D
You can also just use it as a base for your regular OCs and ignore the more BG3/DnD oriented questions!! Hope this is helpful to anyone :]

More character development questions for anyone to answer about their Tav/Durge OCs. My previous two posts with more questions are here and here! Feel free to share your answers in reblogs on any of these posts or mention me, I would love to hear them.
Does your character have anyone that they love unconditionally and no matter what happens? Have they had that sort of relationship before? Has that ever backfired on them?
What’s a song that reminds you of your character? Any particular lyrics that stand out for them?
Does your character have a strong moral code that they live by? What could convince them to do something that goes against that, if they do?

please please please feel free to ask me this for tav/rolan, gale/lia, or lae'zel/cal
useful/fun character development questions for couples
there are a lot of “otp questions” lists out there but I just wanted to make a list that was specifically helpful for writers, especially for working out the technical stuff of conveying Romantic Love. so, here ya go, stuff to answer for each character
What, specifically, was the catalyst for their physical attraction (if applicable) to the other character? In other words, what in particular had them like “Oh, they’re...hot...”
Does this change over time? What things do they find “hot” about their partner after they’ve been together for some time, and have had more time to, well, notice and appreciate?
By contrast, what was the moment that first made their ~heart~ Soft for the other person? Not necessarily a conscious realization of “I love this person,” but a moment that had them like “Oh...I adore them...”
Does this change over time? What will always reliably make them melt with how much they adore the other character?
How do they consciously realize that they like the other character? Does it take them a while?
How do they react to the realization that they like the other character? Is it an “oh my god I’m never going to think about this again” thing, or are they pretty comfortable with it?
Do they (or would they) pursue the other character’s affection, and if so, how? Do they tell the other character how they feel? Try to earn their admiration? Woo them with romantic gestures? Flirt with them, skillfully or otherwise?
What do they think about romantic love? Do they have baggage surrounding it? Do they idealize it? Is it an object of longing and wanting, or were they really not thinking about it until they started falling for the other character? What are their expectations like?
What do they think about commitment? Is a long-term partnership the goal? Are they thinking about building a life with their partner, or are they focused on the present?
What scares them about entering a relationship?
What fears, past traumas, etc. would be hardest for them to talk about with their partner?
How much independence do they prefer in a relationship—do they want to share their lives as much as possible with their partner, or do they prefer to mostly do their own thing and let their partner do their own thing?
What is their go-to for making a partner feel loved?
What makes them feel loved? Would they build up the courage to ask for it?
What, for them, constitutes a level of intimacy that they would only rarely share with someone? This can be physical, emotional, etc.
If they had the ability to just spend free time with their partner, what would they do? Would they go out or stay inside?
Under what circumstances would they want to be left alone by their partner?
They’re going through something incredibly difficult—perhaps they’re very sick, have lost a loved one, or have gone through a traumatic event. Do they ask for or accept support and care from their partner, or try to isolate themselves?
Are they okay with public displays of affection? Do they like them?
When would they say “I love you?” Do they say it first? Do they say it often, or is it reserved for special moments?
If sex is something that would be part of a relationship for them, do both or either of them have prior experiences? If not, how do they feel about it?
What does sex mean for them? Socially, religiously, what attitudes are they bringing with them? Is “virginity” something they care about? Do they want sexual experiences to occur within a certain “level” of relationship, or does that not really matter so much to them?
How comfortable are they talking about, and openly communicating during, sex?
What would their partner do that would really turn them on, perhaps unintentionally?
They accidentally hurt or upset their partner. What happened? How do they respond? What do they do to make their partner feel better?
They have an argument with their partner—what is it about? Do things stay respectful, or is there some shouting and accusing going on?
They have to apologize to their partner. Is this difficult for them? How do they approach it?
How do they feel about the prospect of parenthood? Do they plan on it? How would they react if they suddenly found out they were going to be a parent?
What compromises are they making in their relationship?
What completely petty topic (music taste, favorite food) do they find themselves completely at odds with their partner about?
What little thing do they find incredibly (though harmlessly) annoying about their partner?
How do their friends react to finding out they’re a couple? Do they have lots of mutual friends? Did their friends know, perhaps before they themselves did?
Under what circumstances would they feel jealous?
Under what circumstances would they feel protective?
Would they get a pet? What kind? Who brings up the idea, and who takes a little longer to convince?

For the BG3 character development questions 🥰😘🫂
2: What is your character's alignment?
4: If your Tav was a companion, where would they be found?
11: Weapon of choice?
14: What hobbies does your Tav have?
15: What NPC's do they like? Which one's do they dislike?
26: What animal best represents your Tav?
EEE ty for sending me the ask, my love!! 💖💖💖💖
From this post!!
2. What is your character's alignment? Ofelia is Lawful Good, according to several tests I've taken for her lol. I feel like that fits her well- she values justice and will do whatever she can to stick up for those less fortunate. She's a believer in laws and rules, unless those are unjust and take advantage of others for the gain of the small upper percentage. Coming from a minority, she understands that struggle better than most and has seen firsthand what it can do to a population. She'll never stop resisting the rule of those who think they can subdue and instill fear to hold on to their power.
4. If your Tav was a companion, where would they be found? I think if you could find her after the crash, she'd most likely end up down the beach a ways, sitting on the dock next to the dead fishermen, looking out at the water.
11. Weapon of choice? If it's not her lute, then it'd be her crossbow! She's gotten better at it over the course of her journey so far, but I think she also values the ranged attack style since she's not so used to combat like the others are. Once she starts to get more comfortable, and gets her virtual degree in the college of swords (lol), she'll be wielding phalar aluve 💖
14. What hobbies does your Tav have? I feel like as a bard, it's cheap and easy for me to say playing instruments, singing, art, etc. Her other hobbies outside of that would be journaling and taking pictures of things she likes with her instant film camera to paste into her journal. It's a fun little thing she does to create lasting memories and started mid-high school for her as a way to catalogue the things or people she saw that she wanted to make last, moving around in the foster system so much.
15. What NPC's do they like? Which one's do they dislike? I'd say some of her favorite NPCs are Alfira, Rolan, and Cal & Lia. I can't wait till they all meet up again, especially during Rolan's little emotional drunken breakdown and bringing back his siblings to him. It'll be cute, and Ofelia really resonates with Lia. 🥰💗
26. What animal best represents your Tav? I've been asked this before and I chose a raven for Ofelia- their symbolism is usually focused on wisdom, death, and transformation. Some of those don't make sense NOW I think, but will later in the story 🖤 Since she's a durge, I feel that element of the supernatural and that connection with death (not unlike her flowers post for magnolias) resonate with her character too 🖤
THANK YOU AGAIN!!! Ahhh!!! Writing these make me remember how much I love and miss her and I am so excited when I finally get back to the story to get more of her personality in there 💕🥰

Hey, I recently discovered you (via an astarion post on reddit of all places, where people were gushing over you) and I'm frankly burning in awe of your body of work.
Your art is jaw dropping, but as that last asker said, your writing needs some serious appreciation as well. I started ANE because the writing in your comics was so mindblowing I first thought you'd taken it from canon or literature or somewhere. ("I have dreams where your body is my tomb" - holy hell. That line made me weightless.) I downloaded ANE as an ePub and devoured it on my phone in just a few days. I've never really even read a fanfic before. DU Drow is practically BG3 canon to me now.
I love your imagery, especially Drow's internal monologues where he silently descends into the most luscious, insane violence thats somehow so gorgeous, but also how vividly you describe body language and complex emotions, and how unafraid you are to make your characters flawed and dive into their insecurities and intrapersonal conflicts beyond the already-great source material. You don't hide the ugly or the weird or the difficult because you're precious about your babies (i suffer from that in my writing!), and it's all SO much more impactful for it. You understand contrasts and character development phenomenally. I'm so happy to have found your little world.
Yeah, you really inspired me. My art is not great but I write, so maybe one day I can gift you back with a little one shot - if you're cool with that? I'll stick to patreon to say thanks for now!
This was such a sweet write-up, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to let me know of your thoughts on ANE and my writing in general, I am seriously touched that you could have confused my original writing for canon/existing material, and that you think my characters feel realistically flawed! That is all I strive for when I depict any of these goobers.
Fun fact, I struggle so much with not over-describing body language whenever I write. As a visual artist it is so difficult not to feel like you are obligated to paint as clear a picture as you can when moving to literature, LOL. So, I'm really glad that you enjoy that aspect of it!
As for your final question - ABSOLUTELY! I love receiving art inspired by my work in any shape and form - drawings and comics are wonderful and I love seeing how people translate my character into their own style, but written fiction adds a whole other level to that! Getting to find out how someone interprets my character's inner world and relationships is just as much of a treat.

headcanon, subjectivity, and convincing the reader
hi! I got a wild hair to write a little essay today. here's that little essay. it's about fic writing and how our subjectivity about the source material becomes a conversation with the reader. LEZGO.
quick primer on common terms:
canon: objective, indisputable truth about the property based on what is portrayed on the page/screen. it is canon in BG3 that Astarion is a vampire spawn, it is canon that Wyll is the only son of Grand Duke Ravengard, it is canon that Lae'zel is a githyanki originating from Creché Ki'liir, etc.
headcanon: an individual's subjective interpretation of events and characters in the property based on context clues, hints, personal experience, vibes, etc.
fanon: a more widely accepted community headcanon that is not objectively supported by the property but is generally accepted as a popular interpretation of the source material.
word of god: interpretations considered truth by the creators of the property that may or may not be included in the source material itself. this includes devnotes, responses to fan questions, behind the scenes material, etc. there's much argument to be had about whether or not this is considered canon if it's not also represented in the source material itself.
okay? okay! now let's talk about transformative works (fanfiction and fanwork).
the first rule of transformative work is that there are no rules. okay? okay! to get that out of the way. which is why this is a post about subjective interpretation.
(obligatory blah blah blah obviously having basic writing skill and knowledge is helpful for communicating your ideas to the reader, we all know this)
but what makes a transformative work GOOD? what makes a reader pick up a fic, devour it, and then go "holy shit I can absolutely see how these characters in this scenario make sense. I BELIEVE in this story and this author's interpretation."?
that's where things get complicated. let's do a cut bc this is about to get lengthy!
when we become fans of a property, it's because we are the readers/viewers having a conversation with the source material. something about it caught us and spoke to us, then drove us to create more art based on it and using it as a framework. that's important.
as readers/viewers, we will always have our own subjective interpretation of the work. that interpretation is informed by the work's canon, but it's also informed by our personal experiences, feelings, and knowledge. that's where headcanons and subjectivity come in. it's why some people feel a character is "annoying" while others find them sympathetic.
(there is a MUCH BROADER conversation to be had about how social pressures and oppression also factor into this subject, but that's not my intended goal with THIS essay, so I will acknowledge the fact that a person's internalized biases also inform their perception of the material and move on).
so, we all develop our own personal headcanons about a work. it's inevitable. sometimes those headcanons are based in canon, sometimes they're based on our own experience. where they come from doesn't matter -- they are yours and they belong to you, and they will inform whatever work you create.
now comes the part where we begin a conversation with the reader.
when you're writing fic, one of your many jobs is helping the reader to understand your perspective. this is very challenging! you're essentially creating a written argument for why the characters and elements in your story are unfolding the way that they do, but you're doing so via the vehicle of creative writing. you're depending on narrative structure, dialogue, characterization, setting, plot, tropes, themes, metaphors, etc. to make your "argument."
if you've ever heard people say a character "felt flat" or that an action didn't make sense or that a fic subject is OOC (out of character), that comes from the writer failing to provide a convincing enough argument for the story they're trying to tell. (note: I use the word "fail," but I don't mean it in the sense that the project was a failure. art is never time wasted. but as with most things, it may take time to get to a place where we have the skills to tell the story we want to tell.)
so: how the hell do we work on an issue like that?
a few ways.
first and foremost, at its core, a transformative work should be in conversation with the canon of its source material. that DOES NOT MEAN that canon should be treated as a Bible and ultimate authority (people rewrite canon well all the time), but it does mean a writer needs to consider what worked about the canon to be able to apply it to their own interpretation.
if you found a character compelling in the original property, you need to understand what exactly it was about that character that made them so compelling. it isn't just how they physically look or their signature catchphrase. what about the source material drew you to them, made you empathize, turned you on, etc.?
if a particular relationship made you absolutely feral, WHAT IS IT about that dynamic that caught and kept your attention? what makes them WORK?
THAT is what the conversation with the source material is about. it's about understanding why you were moved in the first place. it's distilling the subjects down to their essence so you can put them in a different scenario without losing the core of who they are.
now you need to understand where your HEADCANON comes from.
(you will notice a running theme here that in order to properly tell a story, you have to understand the story yourself!)
our own subjective interpretation of a work is informed by the knowledge we have (I have a degree in reading and analyzing and writing creatively, it's something I literally went to school for), our personal experiences (Astarion speaks to people with a history of sexual abuse and trauma, imagine that), and emotions that rise organically when we interact with the source material, either unexpectedly (whoa I did NOT expect that to turn me on) or with understanding (animal death always makes me cry because it's upsetting to see something that doesn't understand what's happening go through that and/or I remember when I lost my own animal companion).
so! you have a headcanon that Shadowheart and Nocturne were lovers. this isn't something verified by canon, but it is a scenario that makes sense given the information we have -- they were very close, they have a secret place together surrounded by the flowers Shadowheart calls her favorite, they know intimate details about one another's lives, and their history of standing up for one another and caring about each other is clear.
how do you convince a reader that this is a viable scenario?
first, converse with the canon. all the framework is there for a potential romantic relationship. their respective personalities work together. now, determine why you enjoy this headcanon. is it the intimacy, the loyalty, the kindness? is it the hints from canon that they were important to one another? is it that they have chemistry you find interesting and appealing?
this is the argument you must make to the reader. this scenario is plausible because of canon, character, and context. now you need to build on it and add your own perspective in order to convince the reader to see it as you do.
this particular example is a pretty easy thoroughline, but the same principle can be applied to more varied scenarios. modern AU? okay, how would that change the way these characters interact with the world without losing what makes them, them? pirate AU? okay, which characters would make the most sense to fit certain roles in that scenario given their existing personalities?
there's a common refrain in my writing circles that goes: "do what you want forever." we tend to use it in a flip way to mean that this is play and creativity and you can literally do whatever you want, but the deeper message is, "you can make anything believable with the right approach."
and the "right" approach is about maintaining a conversation between yourself, the source material, your headcanons, and the story you're trying to tell. it's about bringing all those things together in a way that will convince a reader to believe it.
it's a balance, and it's one that isn't universal. no matter what we do, subjectivity means that some people will not agree with our interpretation. that's okay. not every story is for every person. what matters is that you're writing YOUR story for the readers who want to engage with it.
so, at the end of the day: do what you want forever, and do it well :)

Rook’s Book Nook (<-Invite Link!) is an 18+ hangout for writers and artists who are looking for a fandom spot to make their art and talk about the games -- without the intrusion of wider fandom drama or having to juggle fandom and current events in the same place. We’re open to fandom creatives of any kind, especially those that make more mature or adult-oriented art.
We also welcome people who just want to develop and talk about their OCs (or hang out and enjoy the OCs and fanworks of others)!
Server Features:
Absolutely NO AI, LLM, or image generated content.
Writing prompts and OC questions posted at least once a week by the mods (and more often by anyone who wants to!)
Smut- and kink-friendly! We’re also welcoming toward all ships and all different sorts of OCs, and we even have a dead dove role and a dedicated channel for it if that’s your speed.
Veilguard positive. RBN makes the baseline assumption that its members enjoyed Veilguard and are interested in interacting with it — either to love it, critique it, or make fanworks of it — in a generally positive fashion. It doesn’t need to be your favorite for you to be welcome here, we’re just not going to be an enjoyable environment for people who don’t enjoy it or don’t want to interact with Veilguard content.
Rook’s Book Nook is also NOT spoiler-free. Members are NOT asked to mark spoilers for any piece of Dragon Age canon, and we suggest that anyone who wants to remain spoiler-free for Veilguard refrain from joining until they finish their first campaign.
Fandom-only — i.e. minimal-to-no discussion of current events. The world is intense and often alarming, and RBN aims to create a space where we can engage socially and creatively with this hobby without the risk of coming across real life news or coverage of current events. By now, we trust that all of our members are staying informed on their own terms and have already cultivated private places with friends in which to discuss those topics, and are aiming to make this server a reprieve from constant real life anxiety if we can.
In an effort to keep the space generally relaxed and free of drama, for now RBN doesn’t have any designated rant or vent channels and has no plans of adding them in the near future.
Launching with a handful of BG3-related channels, as well, thanks to the significant crossover of those two fandoms. Show us your Tav/Durge/Dnd character! (Other channels can also be added on request.)

[ Primary Game Dev Post /// Updated 7/20/2025 ]

(Have you ever wished that the tieflings of BG3 were romancable? Me too. Let's fix this.)
This fan-made visual novel dating simulator reimagines the memorable night of the tiefling party at camp during Act 1 (just after saving the refugees from the goblins and Kagha). The short game features romance routes for Zevlor, Rolan, and Dammon.

F.A.Q.
Q: What's the gameplay like?
There will be 3 romance routes to play, each with its own ending. There are many dialogue choices to make, but they are mainly for flavor, personalization, and storytelling, rather than determining a 'good ending' versus a 'bad ending'.
Q: What is the player character/Tav like?
At the beginning of the game, like in BG3's character creator, you get to choose your Tav's name, pronouns, class, background, and race. Varying dialogue choices allow for additional ways of expressing your player character/Tav, and some dialogue choices may or may not be available based on your character's background!
Q: How 'spicy' will the romance be?
It's hard to tell right now. For example, there is at least one pretty spicy scene that has already been written, but it may not fully make the cut into the final game depending on what the spice 'cap' ends up being. If you have some opinions on the spice level (explicitness in words and/or graphics) of the romance scenes, let me know because I'd love to hear some opinions before I make a decision!
Spicy! 🔞 No highly detailed descriptions of sex or visible nudity, but implied, vague sex indeed.
Q: Where can I learn more about this/stay updated?
I'm only on Tumblr dot com right now, so follow me if you want regular updates on the game's development! I'm aiming to post weekly updates at the beginning of each week (links above).
Q: Where will the game be available to play/download?
This game will be on itch.io when it's released!
Q: How long is the game?
The final word count is expected to be around 30,000 words and/or about an hour in average play time (depending on player choices!).
Q: When will this game be finished and ready to play?
I really don't know! I've never fully finished developing a game before, and I have a full-time job that takes up most of my daily focus, so I won't be announcing an expected release date until I'm very close to finished.
If you have any other questions or just want to be weird about these characters with me, my ask box is open!

"The Spy Who Loved Me," Inverted
(not necessarily "The Spy Who Loved Me Inverted," but I'm open to the possibility)
Tumblr media
Between two new photomode mods for Mac and the time-tested idea of "romancing un-romanceable NPCs", I've become hooked on the idea of a BG3 party built with mods like this one and composed of minor NPCs romanced by one of my Tavs. I might not actually play this run for quite a while (my bladesinger sits idle, my paladin needs to get started, and my first real Durge run is doing really well, thanks), but I’m gonna set it up for when that happens.
I won’t get too masters-thesis with how I’m gonna do this, because this is just a video game and none of us need to defend the way we play it, no matter what The Discourse says. But the general idea is laughably simple (“I think these lady NPCs are hot and one of my guys should romance them”) so I’ll toss off some disorganized ideas below the cut:
Which Minor NPCs?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The game is chock-full of them, so I've done substantial mental triage to narrow down who might 1) be tadpoled or 2) join up with adventurers or, 3) theoretically become so infatuated with my Tav as to seriously consider neglecting their own duty to their respective factions. That plus keeping my party roster relatively small (to not trivialize the game's challenges), relatively diverse (different races and classes) and “have I tried them before (i.e. in “Oops All Elf Ladies” or “Oops All Drow”)?" were my only criteria.
This is easier to do with Act 3 faves than with, say, Act 1 or 2 faves. Two of my all-timers, for example—Slick Inatra the Zhent beastmaster and Blaze Elin the Fist wizard—have seemingly no real loyalties beyond their faction (in which they rank highly but aren't in charge). Those two even have fun quirks that, for example, a spy could exploit (Inatra is tied to the Iron Flask side quest, and Elin apparently shirks the more complicated duties of her rank). For Act 2 it's tougher; Araj Oblodra is a faction all her own, but she's a huge fave, I love rogues, and I can't not include her.
As for Act 1, most of my female tiefling faves have canonical romances in-game with other NPCs (Lakrissa with Alfira, Bex with Danis), some of them have other obligations that feel cruel to interrupt (Ranger Rikka the tiefling being Doni’s de facto parent/guardian). I don't actually have many druid faves (Apikusis and, uh, Kagha), none of them seem to have good reasons for leaving the Grove, and I've played several druids recently. That leaves Nadira (the telescope tiefling) because (like Rikka) after Act 1 she inexplicably disappears from the game. She tells Origin Wyll that her mother might have been a warlock. So Nadira could be in, as a Fiend Warlock—but I like the two rangers (Lakrissa and Rikka) more. Hmmm.
Tumblr media
Which Tav guy?
I’ll put that aside in favor of another big question more easily answered (and already spoiled by the post’s banner image). I’m too invested in most of my other Tav guys’ existing ships to break those up: Cannor x Minthara is foundational around here, so the bard is out. Farago x Shadowheart is solid, and I’m enjoying Wade x Shadowheart even more, so those two guys are out too. Ruy x Lae’zel is underdeveloped, but my “goofy mapmaker and his hot alien girlfriend” idea works too well to disrupt, so Ruy is out. That leaves one guy left from my Elite Eight, and fittingly he’s the one that feels the least-developed. So, Drem will step up and do his duty to me his liege, as he’s always done. His original run romanced Karlach, but (in my head) a mad navigator stole the tiefling away and they’re a better couple anyway. And Drem’s always been more of a cipher than a real character; he was my first 2e guy 30 years ago, when I didn’t know what I was doing, so he’s still got lots of room to become a Real Boy, RP/lore-wise. He’s available.
However, Drem has a problem: while he’s a better spy than my beloved swords bard (Cannor did flunk out of espionage college, after all), his characterological devotion to duty supersedes romantic entanglements. It’s not a moral devotion—he’s the kind of dirty-tricks specialist who will sneak and spy and do the nasty things his honor-bound monarch cannot—so he’s not against the idea, but crown and country come first. So how to square that with BG3’s “tadpoled adventurers destroy a threat to the city” plot?
Factional Infiltration, maybe? I had a half-baked idea of “okay, a few of these ladies (Inatra, Elin) are sufficiently higher-up in their respective factions, so what if he...seduced them?...to gain some sort of intel pipeline…for whomever he’s working for?” His homebrew liege is royal, but in Faerun-terms he’s not necessarily a Lords’ Alliance- or Harper-equivalent, so I’m not sure what to do about that.
Tumblr media
Conversely, Nothing Matters
Do I need to do anything about the above problem? Why not just say “I’ll recruit all my faves because I can”? When I was brainstorming this, I mentally built up all these RP conditions that have to be met for any of these ladies, but then...who cares? Like, Lakrissa flirts and makes bets when Tav/Durge first meets her, and I've already posted about her shamelessly checking out my bard, so maybe at some point she’ll be the OTP for my degenerate gambler bladesinger. Adding any or all of these folks to any of my playthroughs would be fun, because Custom Companions is fantastic and Withers’ Wardrobe isn’t exactly cramped.
Come to think of it, the wardrobe fixes another rule worth bending/breaking: the immersion-breaking idea of an NPC being in the party but also in-game. Why not just use that whenever each NPC shows up in-game? For those who are (if they live, of course) permanent in all acts, they could simply swap out with someone who’s not; Elin can swap out with, say, Florrick (whom I adore), when the former insists on guarding Wyrm’s Rock and the latter escapes until the endgame.
Finally, because we’re on this cursed piss on the poor website, yes I’m well aware this entire thing could make me look like some sick Errol-Flynn-like monster who just wants to make a passive pixel harem for my sort-of-self-insert Tavs to pose with in photo mode. But come on. This is a video game playing by the proshippy rules of fanfic (which I don’t read or write, but whatever) and large swathes of the fanbase already openly lust for male NPCs like Rolan or Rugan etc. (and they’re welcome to! It’s a game! Folks should have faves! I don’t yuck yums!).
Anyway, before I dig too many holes too much deeper I’d better stop for the moment. You’ll all see more about this (and probably more than you’d like) when it becomes my Main Playthrough. Until then, my Durge still has Act 2 and 3 to complete.
