im sooooo sick of the 'i can tell you've never [abused, sa'd] because you like or have these views abt [tamlin, rhys -- whoeverrr].

its truly a reductionist argument and really gets at why mishandling these themes is actually harmful. there's a lot of things you guys have to come to terms with on these platforms--and very quickly. it also really shows how little care you guys put into talking about these issues. nothing about liking these characters says anything abt you. because i don't KNOW you. you don't KNOW me. who made anyone the arbiter of anyone else's experience. i hate rhysand down--and yet, i know people who love rhys and these books and...they are great people. they are beautiful, kind souls whose morality do not reflect their enjoyment. they are just as critical, just as bright, just as deserving of respect. i know people on here (in irl) who earnestly like rhys as a character, and it has helped them through whatever experience that inspired them to pick up the series. they also...did not write these books. thats why the tag is always anti-sjm, its always directed to the author.

its just crazy - some of you are too wrapped up in fandom/stan logic that some of the these things you guys say are INSANE. insaneee. you do not know these people - most, if not all of these accounts are at least semi-anonymous, all you know is their user and their posts, and that is a scant reflection. my experiences with sa caused me to revile rhysand, but somewhere out there -- there's someone with very similar experiences -- which drove them to find empathy in his character. people are not monoliths. society is not a monolith. its not my place to say 'well actually, you like rhysand so you couldn't have had this experience"🤓 like who the fuck am I to say that? to have an opinion on someone's real life experience over a fictional character?

the reality is that some people come out of their experiences with a completely different world-view. your experiences do not reflect everyone else's and thats okay. we have to learn empathy and understanding outside of our own immediate circle, our own experiences.

disagree, critique, admonish where necessary, but do not ever claim authority over someone's experience. there's probably a a thousand rhysand/feyre stans in my inbox calling me out of my name - but wholeheartedly believe and honor their experiences. are they being...less than kind, yes. does that mean id say 'omg you love feysand so you can't possibly have experienced xyz' NO. It could be that very experience that causes them to be so aggressive abt their connection to these characters. how productive would it be to reduce them down to that awful experience just to make a gotcha. what would even be the point of talking about these issues. thats just not the aim of this whole deal.

OMG I LOVE THIS NEW TWOMP EP!!

Ahh the new TWOMP ep is out, and it's AMAZING! I love how before this, the whole fandom made it a headcanon that Mr. plant uses sign language, and now it's true! The fact that the first time we see him use it was in a way of saying "I love you". LIKE AHH IT'S THE CUTEST THING EVER?? even if Mr. plant isn't exactly a extremly romantic guy, these moments show how much he cares for Argos. I'd like to think argos learned it for him. It shows how deeply they actually care for eachother. I found it nice how argos genuinely thought Mr. Plant enjoyed his time with the tulip guy (lowky my #1 opp now), and explained how he does in fact not own Mr. plant, and how he's allowed to have his own feelings, despite being jealous.(Gosh Argos is too kind for his own good. but we love em) But in reality he murdered him and showed his loyalty to Argos. This has to be my new favorite episode, seriously, Ashur did such an incredible job with the animation and storytelling. PLARGOS FOREVER!

tangential to your previous anon about jonsa. the phenomenon of dudebros who see jon as a self-insert hating the idea of sansa getting with jon is so interesting to me. because, like, a major aspect of sansa as a character is that her beauty and her kindness draw all kinds of men to her who want to possess her but have zero interest in her interiority (her feelings, her wishes, her opinions, her thoughts, etc). i am convinced that the very dudebros who hate her would be half-stalking her if they knew her in person. she’s the hot, nice girl who is too polite to tell creeps to go eff themselves! but since they can’t physically interact with her and are instead forced ONLY to interact with her interiority, they have no time for her. incredible.

i do blame this on the show and show fandom (crazy how that keeps coming up!). not that there aren't dudebros who like the books but... i sort of doubt it lol, and i very clearly remember the misogynistic hate sophie got because "sansa is so annoying" or whatever. as if she wasn't acting perfectly reasonable for what was happening to her. like i just think their hate for little sansa in the show has entirely blinded them to how sansa actually is as a character, especially book sansa. being forced to continually be confronted with sansa as more than a "hot girl", having to read her thoughts and see her fears and hopes etc has made her so unappealing that they actually don't know anything about her. crazy.

it does sort of make me wonder what sort of cope will comes from these men in the inevitable jonsa future. the poor poor dudebros will have to suffer their "alpha-male" jon snow being in love with annoying sansa, how will they survive lolol

hajime's eye twitches, and he's already berating himself for not acting sooner as he strides across the dark rubber flooring. but before he can intervene, you've already taken care of it.

one moment hajime was preparing to forcibly drag the man out of his gym and revoke his membership, and the next your fist is moving through the air in a swift, brutal arc, landing square on the pervert's face with a satisfying crunch.

standing there staring at the woman who just ko'd a creep in his gym, hajime swears this must be it.

Haymitch and Peeta's relationship matters sooo much to me actually and I do not think we talk about it enough! Considering Haymitch's reluctance to allow himself to care about anyone at the start of the trilogy, it's remarkable how quickly he lets both these kids in. A big part of it is just that he actually put effort into mentoring them, of course, which necessitates getting to know them a little, which is something he hasn't let himself do with any of his tributes for years (and that's really all it takes, isn't it, getting to know them a little is all it takes to start caring about them, because despite everything the big heart Haymitch had as a 16 year old is still beating somewhere inside him somewhere, no matter how hard he's tried to beat it down). But it's not just that. After all, he wouldn't have put effort into mentoring them if it hadn't been for who Katniss and Peeta are as people. They're his pair of fighters.

Despite the new info about Burdock in SOTR, I do not think that alone was enough get Haymitch to start caring as a mentor, nor do I think it really contributes all that much, actually, to his decision to "choose" Katniss over Peeta in the first games. Obviously he cares that this is Burdock's daughter, but in the end it's really just that Katniss flat out has a better chance of winning, and Haymitch knows it. So he picks Katniss.

...Then they both make it out. And back in the Victor's Village, Katniss has her family to watch over and everything that's going on between her and Gale. She's got plenty keeping her busy. But Peeta is alone, like Haymitch. His family doesn't ever seem to come visit. He and Katniss aren't really speaking. Suddenly this kid is dropping off bread in Haymitch's kitchen every morning and coming by to eat meals, this great kid who shouldn't be alone, but is seemingly nonetheless alone, because why else would he constantly be there? It's been a long time since Haymitch has been the best someone's got. After that realization, how can he help but open himself up a bit further? Cleave open a crack in the fortifications he's built up around his heart?

Then...the Quell. And Haymitch is denied even the chance to volunteer to die in Peeta's place. He has to find a more complicated, creative way to save the both of them. Because at this point I don't think it's fair to say Haymitch chooses Katniss again over Peeta. It's largely out of his hands. Plutarch, the narrative, the rebellion, all of them have already chosen Katniss over Peeta for him. So Haymitch has to resort to making his separate promises to both of them, and trying his best to stay true to those promises, even when they seem diametrically opposed.

I imagine Haymitch is doing a lot of maneuvering behind the scenes at the beginning of Catching Fire, first to get all the other tributes to be willing to die not only for Katniss (who is the established priority of the plan), but for Peeta too. The explanation later given is "well they all knew you'd fall to pieces if Peeta died, Katniss, so they had to keep him alive to keep you going along with them" but... is that even strictly true? Do most of the tributes *actually* believe that? Finnick doesn't. He straight up tells Katniss later that he didn't, not until he actually witnessed Katniss' reaction when Peeta collided with the force field. I have to conclude he's not the only one who had serious doubts about Peeta and Katniss' ~love~. Yet somehow all these people go into Games willing to save Peeta over themselves and a bunch of other people they've known a lot longer, when Peeta isn't even the one labeled as critical to the Revolution. Why is that? Because Haymitch somehow convinces them it's important. That there's at least some validity to Katniss being inconsolable and uncontrollable if Peeta dies, even if they don't believe in the love story itself.

The first part of Haymitch's plan is convincing the other tributes Peeta also needs to be kept alive, and the second part is making sure Peeta is in the right place at the moment of rescue. This is revealed when Haymitch and Katniss confront one another in Mockingjay about Peeta's capture: "How could you not save him?" "How could you let him out of your sight?" Haymitch was banking on Katniss and Peeta refusing to leave one another's side in the arena. It's obviously a dicey gamble, given the unpredictability of the Games and the fact that he's keeping the rebellion a secret from them entirely, but it's kind of where Haymitch has to place all his hopes. Let Plutarch and the others prioritize Katniss, and do everything in his power to make sure Peeta still gets rescued, anyway. It doesn't work, but he does try to keep his promises to both of them. He loves them both the same amount!

I also think it's notable that pre-highjacking, Peeta never genuinely blames Haymitch for choosing Katniss over him in the first games. He only throws it back in Haymitch's face when he's particularly angry at him about something else (as in Eleven's Justice Building on the Victory Tour, when he's made about Haymitch & Katniss keeping secrets from him) or when he's using it as leverage (his bargaining chip to get Haymitch to save Katniss in the Quell). Peeta doesn't blame him, but Haymitch does blames himself, for a long time after. And even though he didn't strictly choose Katniss in the Quell, he blames himself for that, too. That Peeta was taken.

So Haymitch is the one visiting highjacked Peeta everyday in the hospital, and the one keeping tabs on his recovery to relay to Katniss when she refuses to get involved directly. He's the one on the phone begging her to remember their promise to try and save Peeta! I wonder if at the end of Mockingjay, a part of him feels a bit guilty for accompanying Katniss back to Twelve. Obviously he knows there's not really any choice, Katniss does need him more than Peeta in that moment, she can't be sent off on her own. Peeta needs to stay in the Capitol to get the best care, and Katniss is the one who's the least stable. Still, it must feel a bit like he's leaving Peeta behind...again. The boy nobody was able to be there for at his least stable. This boy who's never been anyone's top option or first choice, not until Katniss catches up to her heart (and even that's something that's so tangled nowHaymitch doesn't even want to poke at it.) So he goes home with Katniss but it's still all wrong. Half his family is still missing.

It must come as such a relief when Peeta finally comes home.

Once again I completely agree with you! “his crashout arc is tragic and horrifying because it goes against who he actually is” yeeesssss!!! 😭💔 There was an old tumblr post I read years ago about emotional repression and how it affects people and someone can seem so self-possessed and kind and helpful but then after a while you realize you don’t actually know anything about them because they’re keeping their heart tucked away and omg if that doesn’t describe Achilles Hadesgame to a tee! (I’m having trouble finding the link atm NVM I FOUND IT! but it certainly influenced my understanding of him in a big way!) hahaha we need to get Greg Kasavin (and the rest of SGG) on the horn and take them out to dinner as well, the storytelling skills are so peak :’)

Ahhhh that artwork is so precious!!! I totally had it in mind for a sequence coming up later in WTDF… everyone there seems to love Achilles so he must have been aura farming that whole time 🥲 And yaaaahhhh his relationship with Meg especially is so special I think!!! I always thought it was interesting that she apparently had a close relationship with him wherein he felt comfortable enough to discuss Patroclus with her before he did with Zagreus… though a friend pointed out that Achilles & Meg forged their relationship off-the-clock and his relationship with Zag, though genuine, was always a part of his job until pretty much around the start of the events of the game. It’s apparent that the whole time Achilles & Zagreus are working on forging a bond as friends and equals, outside of the student/teacher/mentor/mentee relationship they already have, and ofc that involves Achilles daring to open up his heart to Zagreus over personal matters. It’s so very sweet & touching to watch him be newly emotionally vulnerable and seeing it pay dividends when his longtime kindness & encouragement is what compels Zagreus to help him find his way back to Patroclus <3 (something something this tumblr post about how kindness is a powerful choice for the powerful as well as power for the meek & powerless)
