The long bezzle

Going to Defcon this weekend? I’m giving a keynote, “An Audacious Plan to Halt the Internet’s Enshittification and Throw it Into Reverse,” on Saturday at 12:30pm, followed by a book signing at the No Starch Press booth at 2:30pm!
https://info.defcon.org/event/?id=50826
When it comes to the modern world of enshittified, terrible businesses, no addition to your vocabulary is more essential than "bezzle," JK Galbraith's term for "the magic interval when a confidence trickster knows he has the money he has appropriated but the victim does not yet understand that he has lost it"
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/09/accounting-gimmicks/#unter
The bezzle is contained by two forces.
First, Stein's Law: "Anything that can't go on forever will eventually stop."
Second, Keynes's: "Markets can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent."
On the one hand, extremely badly run businesses that strip all the value out of the firm, making things progressively worse for its suppliers, workers and customers will eventually fail (Stein's Law).
On the other hand, as the private equity sector has repeatedly demonstrated, there are all kinds of accounting tricks, subsidies and frauds that can animate a decaying, zombie firm long after its best-before date (Keynes's irrational markets):
https://pluralistic.net/2023/06/02/plunderers/#farben
One company that has done an admirable job of balancing on a knife edge between Stein and Keynes is Verizon, a monopoly telecoms firm that has proven that a business can remain large, its products relied upon by millions, its stock actively traded and its market cap buoyant, despite manifest, repeated incompetence and waste on an unimaginable scale.
This week, Verizon shut down Bluejeans, an also-ran videoconferencing service the company bought for $400 million in 2020 as a panic-buy to keep up with Zoom. As they lit that $400 mil on fire, Verizon praised its own vision, calling Bluejeans "an award-winning product that connects our customers around the world, but we have made this decision due to the changing market landscape":
https://9to5google.com/2023/08/08/verizon-bluejeans-shutting-down/
Writing for Techdirt, Karl Bode runs down a partial list of all the unbelievably terrible business decisions Verizon has made without losing investor confidence or going under, in a kind of tribute to Keynes's maxim:
https://www.techdirt.com/2023/08/10/verizon-fails-again-shutters-attempted-zoom-alternative-bluejeans-after-paying-400-million-for-it/
Remember Go90, the "dud" streaming service launched in 2015 and shuttered in 2018? You probably don't, and neither (apparently) do Verizon's shareholders, who lost $1.2 billion on this folly:
https://www.techdirt.com/2018/07/02/verizons-sad-attempt-to-woo-millennials-falls-flat-face/
Then there was Verizon's bid to rescue Redbox with a new joint-venture streaming service, Redbox Instant, launched 2012, killed in 2014, $450,000,000 later:
https://variety.com/2014/digital/news/verizon-redbox-to-pull-plug-on-video-streaming-service-1201321484/
Then there was Sugarstring, a tech "news" website where journalists were prohibited from saying nice things about Net Neutrality or surveillance – born 2014, died 2014:
https://www.theverge.com/2014/12/2/7324063/verizon-kills-off-sugarstring
An app store, started in 2010, killed in 2012:
https://www.theverge.com/2012/11/5/3605618/verizon-apps-store-closing-january-2013
Vcast, 2005-2012, yet another failed streaming service (pray that someday you find someone who loves you as much as Verizon's C-suite loves doomed streaming services):
https://venturebeat.com/media/verizon-vcast-shutting-down/
And the granddaddy of them all, Oath, Verizon's 2017, $4.8 billion acquisition of Yahoo/AOL, whose name refers to the fact that the company's mismanagement provoked involuntary, protracted swearing from all who witnessed the $4.6 billion write-down the company took a year later:
https://www.techdirt.com/2018/12/12/if-youre-surprised-verizons-aol-yahoo-face-plant-you-dont-know-verizon/
Verizon isn't just bad at being a phone company that does non-phone-company things – it's incredibly bad at being a phone company, too. As Bode points out, Verizon's only real competency is in capturing its regulators at the FCC:
https://www.techdirt.com/2017/05/02/new-verizon-video-blatantly-lies-about-whats-happening-to-net-neutrality/
And sucking up massive public subsidies from rubes in the state houses of New York:
https://www.techdirt.com/2017/03/14/new-york-city-sues-verizon-fiber-optic-bait-switch/
New Jersey:
https://www.techdirt.com/2014/04/25/verizon-knows-youre-sucker-takes-taxpayer-subsidies-broadband-doesnt-deliver-lobbies-to-drop-requirements/
and Pennsylvania:
https://www.techdirt.com/2017/06/15/verizon-gets-wrist-slap-years-neglecting-broadband-networks-new-jersey-pennsylvania/
Despite all this, and vast unfunded liabilities – like remediating the population-destroying lead in their cables – they remain solvent:
https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/verizon-sued-by-investors-over-lead-cables-environmental-statements-2023-08-02/
Verizon has remained irrational longer than any short seller could remain solvent.
Short-sellers – who bet against companies and get paid when their stock prices go down – get a bad rap: billionaire shorts were the villains of the Gamestop squeeze, accused of running negative PR campaigns against beloved businesses to drive them under and pay their bets off:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/01/30/meme-stocks/#stockstonks
But shorts can do the lord's work. Writing for Bloomberg, Kathy Burton tells the story of Nate Anderson, whose Hindenburg Research has cost some of the world's wealthiest people over $99 billion by publishing investigative reports on their balance-sheet shell-games just this year:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2023-08-06/how-much-did-hindenburg-make-from-shorting-adani-dorsey-icahn
Anderson started off trying to earn a living as a SEC whistleblower, identifying financial shenanigans and collecting the bounties on offer, but that didn't pan out. So he turned his forensic research skills to preparing mediagenic, viral reports on the scams underpinning the financial boasts of giant companies…after taking a short position in them.
This year, Anderson's targets have included Carl Icahn, whose company lost $17b in market cap after Anderson accused it of overvaluing its assets. He went after the world's fourth-richest man, Gautam Adani, accusing him of "accounting fraud and stock manipulation," wiping out 34% of his net worth. He took on Jack Dorsey, whose payment processor Square renamed itself Block and went all in on the cryptocurrency bezzle, lopping 16% off its share price.
Burton points out that Anderson's upside for these massive bloodletting was comparatively modest. A perfectly timed exit from the $17b Icahn report would have netted $56m. What's more, Anderson faces legal threats and worse – one short seller was attacked by a man wearing brass-knuckles, an attack attributed to her short activism.
Shorts are lauded as one of capitalism's self-correcting mechanisms, and Hindenberg certainly has taken some big, successful swings at some of the great bezzles of our time. But as Verizon shows, shorts alone can't discipline a market where profits and investor confidence are totally decoupled from competence or providing a decent product or service.
I’m kickstarting the audiobook for “The Internet Con: How To Seize the Means of Computation,” a Big Tech disassembly manual to disenshittify the web and bring back the old, good internet. It’s a DRM-free book, which means Audible won’t carry it, so this crowdfunder is essential. Back now to get the audio, Verso hardcover and ebook:

it amuses me how ppl will make PSA posts about how such-and-such platform uses "AI" and tells you to be Very Angry about it via context clues, but then the same ppl will happily reblog AI "art", even when it's very easy to tell and/or it takes two seconds to look at the damn comments on a post to find that it's AI generated, or that the very OP of the post tagged it as AI art, or answered an ask like "yeah I use a generator for the pics," or puts "I use midjourney to make the pics" in their profile on mobile, etc etc etc
I guess it's easier to screech about how an option in a program that you can turn off/disable within seconds and that won't actually do anything more than what your autocorrect or grammarly or siri or alexa or google assistant or photoshop filters have already been doing with/harvesting from your data for years now (spoilers: you've been using and training "AI" algorithms for longer than chatGPT has been mainstream! yes, it's basically the same concept!) than it is to do a few seconds of reading or double-checking to ensure you're not reblogging art theft and tagging it as "photography" 🙃
#as an artist and writer *and* someone who actually knows what these algorithms do and how they function#I am very fatigued by the alarmism when it ultimately rings hollow#it is easy to get upset and up in arms about something because “the group” you are a part of tells you to be#and that's one thing#but if you're going to do that can't you at least be consistent and commit to the bit?#because as someone who does not enjoy seeing the “photography” tag just chock-full of fake photos#I would appreciate it if the same people who freak out about seeing a “NOW WITH AI!” button#would just actually pay attention to the shit that *isn't* spoonfeeding you the buzzwords directly#fighting against AI in this way isn't just parroting things like “look! this program tells you it's using AI!! here's how to turn it off!”#it's actually doing research and double-checking that you're not spreading around the very thing you claim to hate and want to stop#like where are the posts collecting a block list of confirmed AI image peddlers? couldn't be anywhere on tumblr#even when they're lurking in plain sight and tagging their OPs with “AI art”#or admitting to it in their blog description#or tagging their insta posts with “AI”#“but it's a Pretty Picture and makes me feel the Good Things so I'm gonna be willfully ignorant about it”#“I don't want to consider that The Thing that made me feel feelings was AI generated because that would destroy me mentally”#“I would rather give this random user who does not list what kind of camera they use or where they took the photo the benefit of the doubt”#“surely they would not lie about the image they posted being photography!”#like I'm very tired of this posturing and grandstanding about how AI STEALS!!#but then no one does the actual hard work required to learn what that means#or what that actually looks like#just lmao#inb4 someone says “oh so you don't want ppl to inform others about what programs are doing?! sounds pretty AI bro to me!”#like I will make fun of you if you come into my post with that shit#learn how to read#text post#technology

Things That May Be Causing Your Writer's Block- and How to Beat Them
I don't like the term 'Writer's Block' - not because it isn't real, but because the term is so vague that it's useless. Hundreds of issues all get lumped together under this one umbrella, making writer's block seem like this all-powerful boogeyman that's impossible to beat. Worse yet, it leaves people giving and receiving advice that is completely ineffective because people often don't realize they're talking about entirely different issues.
In my experience, the key to beating writer's block is figuring out what the block even is, so I put together a list of Actual Reasons why you may be struggling to write:
(note that any case of writer's block is usually a mix of two or more)
Perfectionism (most common)
What it looks like:
You write one sentence and spend the next hour googling "synonyms for ___"
Write. Erase. Write. Rewrite. Erase.
Should I even start writing this scene when I haven't figured out this one specific detail yet?
I hate everything I write
Cringing while writing
My first draft must be perfect, or else I'm a terrible writer
Things that can help:
Give yourself permission to suck
Keep in mind that nothing you write is going to be perfect, especially your first draft
Think of writing your first/early drafts not as writing, but sketching out a loose foundation to build upon later
People write multiple drafts for a reason: write now, edit later
Stop googling synonyms and save that for editing
Write with a pen to reduce temptation to erase
Embrace leaving blank spaces in your writing when you can't think of the right word, name, or detail
It's okay if your writing sucks. We all suck at some point. Embrace the growth mindset, and focus on getting words on a page
Lack of inspiration (easiest to fix)
What it looks like:
Head empty, no ideas
What do I even write about???
I don't have a plot, I just have an image
Want to write but no story to write
Things that can help:
Google writing prompts
If writing prompts aren't your thing, instead try thinking about what kind of tropes/genres/story elements you would like to try out
Instead of thinking about the story you would like to write, think about the story you would like to read, and write that
It's okay if you don't have a fully fleshed out story idea. Even if it's just an image or a line of dialogue, it's okay to write that. A story may or may not come out of it, but at least you got the creative juices flowing
Stop writing. Step away from your desk and let yourself naturally get inspired. Go for a walk, read a book, travel, play video games, research history, etc. Don't force ideas, but do open up your mind to them
If you're like me, world-building may come more naturally than plotting. Design the world first and let the story come later
Boredom/Understimulation (lost the flow)
What it looks like:
I know I should be writing but uugggghhhh I just can'tttttt
Writing words feels like pulling teeth
I started writing, but then I got bored/distracted
I enjoy the idea of writing, but the actual process makes me want to throw my laptop out the window
Things that can help:
Introduce stimulation: snacks, beverages, gum, music such as lo-fi, blankets, decorate your writing space, get a clickity-clackity keyboard, etc.
Add variety: write in a new location, try a new idea/different story for a day or so, switch up how you write (pen and paper vs. computer) or try voice recording or speech-to-text
Gamify writing: create an arbitrary challenge, such as trying to see how many words you can write in a set time and try to beat your high score
Find a writing buddy or join a writer's group
Give yourself a reward for every writing milestone, even if it's just writing a paragraph
Ask yourself whether this project you're working on is something you really want to be doing, and be honest with your answer
Intimidation/Procrastination (often related to perfectionism, but not always)
What it looks like:
I was feeling really motivated to write, but then I opened my laptop
I don't even know where to start
I love writing, but I can never seem to get started
I'll write tomorrow. I mean next week. Next month? Next month, I swear (doesn't write next month)
Can't find the time or energy
Unreasonable expectations (I should be able to write 10,000 words a day, right????)
Feeling discouraged and wondering why I'm even trying
Things that can help:
Follow the 2 min rule (or the 1 paragraph rule, which works better for me): whenever you sit down to write, tell yourself that you are only going to write for 2 minutes. If you feel like continuing once the 2 mins are up, go for it! Otherwise, stop. Force yourself to start but DO NOT force yourself to continue unless you feel like it. The more often you do this, the easier it will be to get started
Make getting started as easy as possible (i.e. minimize barriers: if getting up to get a notebook is stopping you from getting started, then write in the notes app of your phone)
Commit to a routine that will work for you. Baby steps are important here. Go with something that feels reasonable: every day, every other day, once a week, twice a week, and use cues to help you remember to start. If you chose a set time to write, just make sure that it's a time that feels natural to you- i.e. don't force yourself to writing at 9am every morning if you're not a morning person
Find a friend or a writing buddy you can trust and talk it out or share a piece of work you're proud of. Sometimes we just get a bit bogged down by criticism- either internal or external- and need a few words of encouragement
The Problem's Not You, It's Your Story (or Outline (or Process))
What it looks like:
I have no problems writing other scenes, it's just this scene
I started writing, but now I have no idea where I'm going
I don't think I'm doing this right
What's an outline?
Drowning in documents
This. Doesn't. Make. Sense. How do I get from this plot point to this one?!?!?! (this ColeyDoesThings quote lives in my head rent free cause BOY have I been there)
Things That Can Help:
Go back to the drawing board. Really try to get at the root of why a scene or story isn't working
A part of growing as a writer is learning when to kill your darlings. Sometimes you're trying to force an idea or scene that just doesn't work and you need to let it go
If you don't have an outline, write one
If you have an outline and it isn't working, rewrite it, or look up different ways to structure it
You may be trying to write as a pantser when you're really a plotter or vice versa. Experiment with different writing processes and see what feels most natural
Study story structures, starting with the three act structure. Even if you don't use them, you should know them
Check out Ellen Brock on YouTube. She's a professional novel editor who has a lot of advice on writing strategies for different types of writers
Also check out Savage Books on YouTube (another professional story editor) for advice on story structure and dialogue. Seriously, I cannot recommend this guy enough
Executive Dysfunction, Usually From ADHD/Autism
What it looks like:
Everything in boredom/understimulation
Everything in intimidation/procrastination
You have been diagnosed with and/or have symptoms of ADHD/Autism
Things that can help:
If you haven't already, seek a diagnosis or professional treatment
Hire an ADHD coach or other specialist that can help you work with your brain (I use Shimmer; feel free to DM me for a referral)
Seek out neurodiverse communities for advice and support
Try body doubling! There's lot's of free online body doubling websites out there for you to try. If social anxiety is a barrier, start out with writing streams such as katecavanaughwrites on Twitch
Be aware of any sensory barriers that may be getting in the way of you writing (such as an uncomfortable desk chair, harsh lighting, bad sounds)
And Lastly, Burnout, Depression, or Other Mental Illness
What it looks like:
You have symptoms of burnout or depression
Struggling with all things, not just writing
It's more than a lack of inspiration- the spark is just dead
Things that can help:
Forget writing for now. Focus on healing first.
Seek professional help
If you feel like it, use writing as a way to explore your feelings. It can take the form of journaling, poetry, an abstract reflection of your thoughts, narrative essays, or exploring what you're feeling through your fictional characters. The last two helped me rediscover my love of writing after I thought years of depression had killed it for good. Just don't force yourself to do so, and stop if it takes you to a darker place instead of feeling cathartic

there's no death here | robert "bob" reynolds

ཐིཋྀ thunderbolts caught me with a bob-shaped hole in my heart.
warnings: spoilers from thunderbolts, super!reader, fem!reader, not sure if I'll make a bunch of parts or even finish this idea so be warned, gonna go ahead and say canon-divergent to save my ass bc im no marvel expert.
masterlist | ao3
You weren't built for battle—the powers you had were more defense based than anything—but you had been trained by the best of the best. The countless lessons left your survival skills above subpar, and maybe you could make use of your size and strangle a man twice it, but those things didn't make you a hero.
And being around so many of them for so long, it's disturbingly easy to start to feel useless.
“Born or cursed?”
You didn't remember who had asked it. You do remember you had been younger, that you'd been more or less adopted into the world of the Avengers without ever truly being thrown into it. Wanda and Natasha had been your everything, especially when it came to helping with your powers. Between the supernatural and the mental side, they had done wonders.
Sitting around and not making use of yourself would be spitting on their memory, so it wasn't long before you were dragged into government business. Reading minds was handy, but picking apart memories? Entering their psyche?
You were gold to detectives and last resort for men in black suits who would “talk” to criminals if you didn't.
The work had drained enough from you by the time Bucky showed up on your doorstep with a bottle of liquor and a favor.
“This isn't what I do,” you told him, looking over the files. “I'm not a therapist or a teacher. If Void is as powerful as you say it is—”
“It can be beaten,” he explained. “We've done it before. I just need you to help Bob block it out. You know how to do that.”
“With other people's thoughts,” you argued.
He shook his head. “You suppress memories. You put them into neat little boxes for your agent work.”
“You want me to make him forget something that dangerous?”
“I want you to show him he's not alone when it comes to this side of superpowers.” Bucky stood, a warm hand coming down on your shoulder and squeezing. “We've all been scattered. It's a shit team, the New Avengers, but it's something, kid.”
“I’m not a kid anymore, Bucky,” you sighed.
“I know. Wouldn't be asking you for your help if you were.”
The door shut to your apartment in farewell, but one visit from the Winter Soldier had too many opening at once. Flashes of earth's most mightiest heroes, of old friends, dead friends, missing ones.
Getting dragged back into that mess was asking for trouble.
Sipping on free alcohol, you flip through the packet of Robert “Bob” Reynolds. Sweet face, fucked past, and a far more fucked psyche for the powers he'd revealed in the last hit on New York.
Cursed, you decided by the end of your research, frowning as a picture slipped free. The New Avengers were definitely a ragtag group. Bucky was the only one you knew, Yelena you learned more than enough about through Nat digging around her head one time too many. Alexei Shostakov as well, but he was easy to pick apart at one glance. Anything revolving around Ava Starr and John Walker was rumors or passed down the grapevine.
Your phone vibrated. Checking it drew a deep line between your eyebrows. Someone was asking for another questioning, this time through the mind of a rampant serial killer in Chicago. They didn't have enough on him.
You leaned into your hands, sighing.
Across the block at a red-light, Bucky glanced at his phone and smiled as he read over the text.
“I need to meet him before I agree to this.”
The light flicked green.
The Watchtower was a shadow of the place you used to know. Repairs were still being made leaving people crawling on every floor but the top level had been finished for two weeks now, leaving the New Avengers with their shared space.
Bucky had promised the team would be out when you arrived, save for Bob. As it was quiet when the elevator door opened, you were glad to see he'd kept that promise.
“Welcome back,” he called, walking up.
“Which room did you snag?” you scoffed, eyeing the decor. Minimalist, neutral tones. Far greyer than the old room you remembered.
“The biggest.” He said it like it was obvious. Maybe it should've been.
Hearing movement, you both turned as a shadow passed by the windows. The hunched shoulders were a dead giveaway, soft eyes flittering between the floor and you as the young man stepped down.
Bob wore a dark blue sweater that drowned his figure and dark jeans. His hair was still a shaggy length and dark brown from the recent pictures you'd seen. By all accounts, he looked normal, but the anxiety flowed off him in waves that crashed against your head.
His mind extends way beyond others.
“Hi,” he greeted softly, clearing his throat. “You're, uh, Bucky's friend?”
You introduced yourself, stepping forward to offer your hand. He was quick to step back even across the room, body tensing.
“Wait, don't. I'm not sure if I—”
“When's the last time you transported someone into a shame room?”
The shock on his face had you glancing at Bucky for answers.
“Last week,” he said, crossing his arms. “Nothing super dangerous. Uncomfortable, but we get a lot of repeats so we break off easily enough.”
“Wait, so how much do you already know?” Bob asked, arms wrapping around himself.
“Enough,” you and Bucky respond.
Bob sighed, head nodding along as he turned away. “Great, guess that makes it easier.”
“I wouldn't say that; you're guarded now.” You moved closer, keeping your steps slow and your hands behind your back. Bob remained tense but didn't shy away. “Bucky called me here to see if I could help you, but I came here to see if you even want it.”
“Well, uh…” he swallowed, head bowing.
Do you want my help? His eyes flashed wide, breath catching as he looked up. You kept your expression neutral as you raised a brow. Do you? This will only work if you want to put in the effort.
“Can you see everything?”
You fought not to smile at the childish awe in his voice as it echoed back to you. I'm not looking. I'm listening.
A series of curses and panicked background commentary had you laughing.
I've heard and seen a lot. Honestly, don’t worry about it.
“That's easy for you to say,” Robert grumbled. “I cant control my thoughts like you can.”
“Would you like to?”
“It's not that I don't want your help,” he said, hands tangling into his sweater. “I just don't want to hurt anyone again. A lot of people… Some don't snap out of what I make them see. It's bad.”
“I have faith in my mental state,” you assured him. “Mental barriers, especially. I need to see just how powerful you are, though. Because if you get past mine, that means I'll be training you through trial and error. It's risky but it's not impossible.”
Bob looked to Bucky. “Do you think that's a good idea?”
Your old friend shrugged. “I brought her in because she's good at what she does. Whatever she wants to do, I have to trust it's the right decision.”
“I could hurt her!” Bob breathed and looked back to you. “I could hurt you really, really bad. Are you sure you know what you're signing up for?”
“I read through your files. I saw the extent of your powers and the aftermath of the accident,” you explained. “I'm prepared to help you with all things mental and psychic, but trust has to go both ways.”
You raised your hand again. He flinched, shuffling back.
“You want to help me now. What if that changes?” he whispers. “What if you see what it's really like and it scares you?”
“We won't know unless we try.” You took a step. Hand outstretched.
Bob looked at Bucky again, as if waiting to see if anyone would disagree. Whatever he searched for wasn't there.
He sighed and met your gaze. Pale blue eyes, you noted, with colors shifting around the pupil.
“Okay,” he nodded, holding up a shaky hand. The skin was bitten raw around his nails, skin dry but warm. The moment you felt it, there was a pressure against your mental shields. You could see the darkness clouding around you, searching for a way in, but you held firm.
“Are you okay?” he whispered, arm trembling as he stood there. His eyes were closed, head turned away.
You smiled, holding in a laugh as you used your other hand to grab his. “I'm fine, Bob. You're definitely powerful.”
“But you didn't see anything?” he said, eyeing where you were joined.
“I've had years to work on my mental barriers. You can't breach what doesn't have an entrance.” You squeezed his hand. “This is a really good sign. I'm going to have to let you in at some point to see just how potent your power is, but we'll work up to that.”
“You really don't see anything?” he whispered, hope rising in his expression as he searched your gaze.
“Just you,” you promised, unable to keep from smiling. “We'll have to work on your projection. Your thoughts are…loud.”
His face flushed red as he pulled away, sputtering an apology. There was some halfass excuse about the bathroom as he fled. Bucky stepped up to fill the empty space.
“What was he thinking?”
“None of your business,” you chuckled. “You got a guest room for me?”
But you had to admit you were flattered. Mens’ thoughts usually came up with the same descriptions for you at first glance. All your life you'd been met with disgusting thoughts and hateful opinions or plain “hot” and “sexy.”
This might've been the first time a man had ever thought of you as “radiant” before.

UPDATE: a judge blocked this for now: https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-pause-federal-grants-aid-f9948b9996c0ca971f0065fac85737ce
—
This is a huge fucking problem.
These grants account for more than 10% of the GDP. 3 trillion – wiped out.
From the article:
The funding freeze by the Republican administration could affect trillions of dollars and cause widespread disruption in health care research, education programs and other initiatives. Even grants that have been awarded but not spent are supposed to be halted.
“The use of Federal resources to advance Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies is a waste of taxpayer dollars that does not improve the day-to-day lives of those we serve,” said a memo from Matthew Vaeth, the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget.
(Use of that language, that entire segment, "Marxist equity ... policies" is disgusting. If you think you're wary of propaganda and you do not see the enormous red flags in that statement, I do not know how to help you. If you're not beyond it, maybe pick up a history book — the 1930s are particularly pertinent.)
The average person may not understand just how far-reaching this is, how many programs and services are covered by grants, that regular people rely on all across the US and globally.
Not to mention how many people just had their livelihood demolished.
Researchers, for example, spend months and years writing grant proposals, their work and income relies on these cycles. So even if this is "temporary", a lot of people are going to struggle.
This is not just a few people in lab coats somewhere, working on something you don't care about. Government-funded research is released to the public, since we paid for it, and is very typically about things the public will want to know:
Is this product safe or deadly?
Is this medication actually a "wonder drug" or does it harm you in the long term?
Is this pollution going to affect us long-term?
Etc.
Seriously, if you wanted any of those things to get better — you wanted lower rates of cancer and other deadly and disabling disease? You worry about trusting public health guidelines because you're concerned about bias and vested interests in research? You want "small government" that doesn't interfere with people's bodies based on a small group's religious dogma, with zero basis in factual, verifiable reality?
Then you should have voted to keep this administration out of government.
Because their idea — which is outlined in Project 2025, and they are following it closely — is that research will be required to rely 50% on private funding.
Guess what private funding introduces a ton more of: private interests, private bias. The interests of stakeholders who do not give a shit if you are being killed by their product, as long as line goes up in the short run.
But even beyond scientific researchers — and those who rely on that work, e.g. journalists, science communicators, public health advocates, scientific artists —
grants fund others like: teachers, police, farmers, women's and homeless shelters, native orgs, medical workers, and on the list goes.
All pending "review" by a thoroughly unqualified gang of convicted criminals and cronies.

biblically accurate, semi-realistic candace or kandake, who was a nubian queen
image renders:
Incoming yap about the current genshin problem:
As a Chinese person swarmed by western media, Liyue means so, so much to me. Seeing the culture that I've been taught to be ashamed of all my life being represented so accurately and positively makes me incredibly happy. It was the first time I saw the famous landscapes that I've visited in person and recreated a fantasy game. Seeing characters wear clothes with similar designs to what I’ve worn and eating similar foods to what I’ve eaten, is indescribable. The euphoria I felt when I first climbed atop of Qingyun Peak and heard the music is something I wish I could experience again.
That being said, Sumeru was a mess, and Natlan is just depressing. What I would give to have people from SEA/SWANA, Latin America, Africa, and Indigenous groups etc. to feel the same way I did when strolling through Liyue.
HYV’s colorism isn’t just stifling their character designs; by whitewashing real-life people, real cultures and even their deities, they are inadvertently whitewashing history. They are taking from actual ethnic groups: learning their history and struggles, then retelling these narratives after replacing their people with bleached protagonists in orientalist clothing.
All this because of what? Out of touch beauty standards? The possibility of lower sales? Dehya is extremely loved in China and her fans donated thousands to a children’s charity in her name. Other Chinese companies like Lilith Games and Bluepoch don’t have this problem. Dislyte is able to consistently pump out gorgeous character designs with varying skin tones and Reverse:1999 makes accurate designs and does in-depth research into the cultures of their characters.
It’s a basic lack of respect.
I've heard that Iranian players were extremely happy and touched by their representation, and that's amazing. And most European, Chinese, and Japanese players are fine with theirs. I just wish this extended to the representation of people with skin tones that are darker.
HYV has shown that they are capable of making characters with darker skin tones and interesting designs, but they will only do that for npcs and enemies. Orientalism, culture mash-ups and inaccuracies across regions is unfortunately common in the game, but the problem with the unchanging pale color of playable characters reflects an obvious and sinister bigotry. I do personally believe that a lot of this has to do with the meddling of higher-ups; many playable characters look like they’ve been white-washed at the end of the process, and just from an art/design standpoint, they fit darker skin-tones much, much better.
It is impossible for Genshin to be a fully “fictional fantasy game” because they chose to bear the responsibility of incorporating real life cultures into their world-building. The criticisms about Sumeru and Natlan are what they brought upon themselves. If you don’t want to represent properly, don’t do it at all. You cannot take everything from a culture and leave their people out of it. They deserve the same respect and research as the region representing your own nation.
For the people who have seen themselves represented in media over and over again, or for those who do not care about being represented at all: even if YOU don't care, others do, and they have a damn good reason for it. This is a big deal, it isn’t too much to ask for, and I will be blocking racists. Peace.

Illyrian Males Pt. 2
Pairing: Cazriel x Reader
Summary: You navigate a new mating bond, while Cassian and Azriel reveal things they've been keeping from you...
Word count: 8.9k
Warnings: Smut, BDSM, depression, self sacrifice, use of Y/N
a/n: I had a block on this for the longest time, unsure where I would take a part two but it finally fell into place. This is darker than the first part, buckle up friends.
Part 1
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The paperwork pulls in and out of focus in front of you. You rub the palms of your hands into your eyes and let them drop to the table with a sigh. It’s no good, you’ve been sitting here for far too long and nothing is getting done. You shove the papers away and pull one of the library's heavy books towards you.
“Y/N I’ve been looking for you.” Rhysand appears from the shadows of the bookshelves. “Well, you found me.” You smile up from the dusty tome. “Tell me that you’ve come for something far more interesting than this.” You gesture to the work spread out before you.
“I think so.” He smirks and takes a seat opposite you. “I’ve just received word that most of the female Illyrians in Windhaven have agreed to start training.” “What!” You shout and then shrink back as you recall the quiet sanctuary of the library around you. “What do you mean? Who convinced them?” “You did.” He reaches forward and starts flipping idly through one of the books on the table “Apparently the group you were headed to see in the cottage the other week witnessed that trainee lunge at you and then watched you take him down. Seeing your quick reaction and ability to defend yourself convinced them.” He straightens a little then and starts glancing around your small study space between the shelves. “That’s amazing, I’ll start working with Cassian on a training plan.” You start searching for a pen so you can jot down some ideas. “Hopefully when their training begins news will start spreading to the other camps and we can get those females involved as well.” “Speaking of Cassian.” Rhysand leans forward onto his forearm “Why do you smell like my General?” He grins wickedly at you. “And my Spymaster for that matter.” You can feel the blood rush to your cheeks. “Well, I-, actually what I-” you were sure the blush now tinged your neck and the tips of your ears. “Relax” Rhysand leans back in his chair “It’s none of my business.” He begins picking invisible lint from his shoulder and you smile softly at his little ways of making you more comfortable. You take a deep breath. “Actually you should know.” You exhale to steady yourself. “I was hoping that Cass and Az would be here when you found out, but I’d rather not leave you to jump to your own conclusions.” You glance up to find his eyebrows raised in a ‘who me?’ fashion. “I know that they are mates and, well, I am also their mate.” You bite your lip waiting for his response. His eyes widen in surprise for all of three seconds and then he leans forward on clasped hands. “A triad bond huh.” He reaches a hand into the air, materialises a book from nowhere and begins flicking. “Extremely rare, I’ve actually never met someone in a triad before. I wonder if there are any additional benefits or detriments when compared to a regular bond.” he begins rambling “Of course I’ll mask your scent” Without looking up he clicks his fingers and you feel a ripple of his power wash over you. “You three will make an excellent case study, of course if you’re willing to answer some questions, nothing too personal obviously.” “Wait, you can mask my scent?” You ask. “Of course, who do you think has masked the scent of those two all over each other for centuries? You’ll be able to scent each other but it keeps it covered for others. It’s a tiny piece of my magic, a good way to keep burning it off really.” He replies without looking up from his new research.
“We decided to keep the bond a secret for now, if you’ve been doing it for them why wouldn’t they get you to do it for me right away?” You try to control the level of your voice. Rhysand looks up at you with a levelled stare.
“Y/N, they may be two of the greatest warriors to ever grace the Illyrian legions but they’re still males.” You cock your head to the side trying to understand. “They’re being territorial. They want you to smell like them. Even though it’s stupid and risks the bond being exposed.”
“Oh.” You sit back and feel the blush that just started to fade reappear across your cheeks.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------
You walk into your room and find Cassian waiting in the armchair you keep in the corner.
“Finally, I thought I would have to come pull you from the library myself.” He jumps up and scoops you into his arms as your feet leave the ground.
“I got caught up with Rhysand.” You explain as you dip your head down and place a soft kiss to his lips. A flurry of jealousy washes down the bond.
“Really? Rhys?” You raise your eyebrows at him as he sets you back on your feet.
“Sorry.” He chuckles. “Mating bond is still chaffing a little bit.” He runs a hand through his dishevelled hair as he ducks his head.
“Well he knows now, about us I mean.” You gesture awkwardly between the two of you.
“You told him?” He smirks mischievously.
“I didn’t have to, he was curious to know why I smelt like you and your mate” You smack him lightly on the shoulder as you push past and dump your bag at your desk. “Why didn’t you tell me about the scent masking?”
“Honestly it slipped my mind.” He shrugs. “It’s not like we’ve really left the house so the secret's still safe.”
He crosses the room towards you until you're forced to lean back into the desk to look up at him.
“Also is it so bad that you smell of me and our mate?” He dips down and begins to brush his lips along your neck.
Right. Our mate. The one who’s become increasingly distant. Who trains longer and stays in his study later into the night. The one who let Cassian take over your blade training after one small disagreement.
You drop your head to Cassian’s chest and let a small sigh escape your lips. He lifts your face with gentle fingers under your chin.
“This is about Azriel?” His dark eyes flick between yours.
“What if he’s disappointed Cass? What if he regrets accepting the bond?” You can feel the tears forming in the back of your throat.
“Trust me baby. He doesn’t regret it. He’s just…” His gaze falls to the middle distance above your head, searching for the right words.
“Pushing me away?” It had only been a few weeks and whilst things between you and Cassian had never been better the opposite was true for Azriel. Of course the three of you had fallen into bed together numerous times since the bond clicked. But you couldn’t help but feel like he was only going along with it all for Cassian’s sake.
“Listen, Az and I have been mates for a long time.” He brushes his fingers along your cheek. “We found a way of… managing our relationship. He’s just still trying to figure out how you fit into that.”
“He gave up my training. He no longer visits the library in the afternoons. He stopped consulting me on intel.” You pout not convinced by his words.
“Let me show you something. Do you trust me?” A wicked grin appears on his face.
“Of course.” You straighten, intrigued by the mischievous glint in his eye.
“I need you to block out your bond to Azriel. Just like you’ve been practising.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cassian trails his fingers down your bare ribs, your fingers curl into the sheets beneath you as you focus on keeping the shield in your mind in place.
“Good girl, now if you need me to stop at any point I want you to use the safe word.” He murmurs into your skin as he leaves soft kisses along your hip.
“Safe word?” You squirm a little, eager to have him pay attention to the ache between your legs.
He smirks up at you and though you’ve been bare before him so many times now it still sends a flush across your skin. “A safe word is for whe-”
“I know what a safe word is Cass!” You smack his shoulder for the second time today. “What’s the safe word?”
“Stardust.” He murmurs and then immediately licks a stripe up your core, flicking your clit with his tongue. You throw your head back against the pillow and let out a soft moan.
You’d had lovers before but had never quite found you enjoyed receiving oral the way you did with your thighs wrapped around the head of one of your mates. Their tongues devoured you in ways you’d never experienced before, soft where you needed, hard where it counted and always so warm.
Cassian quickly works you to the edge and you swear small white spots begin to swim behind your closed lids. You feel your core begin to tighten as Cassian quickly pulls away.
You let out a small whine and glare up at him as he holds himself over you, grinning like an idiot.
“Still have that wall in place sweetheart?” He cocks his head to the side. You quickly check the shield between you and Azriel is still in place.
“Yes, but why did you stop?” You pout.
“Good things come to those who wait.” He chuckles, leaning down, capturing your bottom lip between his teeth. He kisses you softly, slowly, savouring the moment and you can taste yourself on his lips. Soon his fingers find your sensitive clit and your hips unintentionally grind up to meet his movements. Your hands grab at thick biceps covered in Illyrian swirls, giving you purchase for more movement. You pant in soft moans as Cassian kisses down your chest, reaching a nipple and sucking it into his mouth. He quickly works you to the edge again.
“Oh god, please” You whine at his assault.
He leaves one nipple to nip at the tight bud of the other and just when you feel like you could shatter he pulls his hand away. “Cass” Your voice a soft whimper at your lost pleasure.
“Do you need me to stop baby girl?” His voice is a soft gravel, almost daring you to ask him to stop.
“No, I need you to not stop.” You give him a small shove and he tumbles to the side pulling you on top of him as he spins.
“Don’t worry baby, I’m giving you exactly what you need.” His eyes sparkle with mischief but you don’t have time to question it as he guides your hips down onto his length. Your head tips back gently with a moan as you adjust to the stretch of him.
It could be centuries and you’d never get used to the feeling of him entering you. His thick length slides into you, filling you completely. You begin to rise on your knees, aching for the friction of him inside you.
“Mmmm, ride me baby, I’m all yours.” Cassian pants beneath you, his eyes screwed shut savouring the feel of you wrapped around him.
You plant your hands on his chest, bouncing up and down as his hips roll to meet yours. Already worked to the edge twice, you can feel the coil tightening inside of you. A series of small whimpers escape your lips as Cassian palms at your hips and your chest. You can feel his head drag across your soft walls, building pressure exactly where you need it. Suddenly Cassian is coming with a groan. His fingers digging tightly into your hips as you feel him pulse inside you. You bite your lip unsure what to do. You're glad you could bring your mate pleasure but he’d never finished before you, Hel these males usually made you come undone twice before they were finished with you.
“Relax baby girl.” Cassian reaches up and releases your bottom lip with a gentle swipe of his thumb. “I said I’d get you what you needed and I meant it.”
He reaches across the bed to his discarded shirt and begins pulling it over your head.
“Keep that shield in place and go find our mate.” He gives you a wink before helping you off the bed with a small smack to your ass.
—--------------------------------------------------------------------
You pad down the hall towards Azriel’s office. The soft glow of the rising moon outside reminding you that you were still yet to eat. And you were hungry, famished, but for something that no food could satiate. Your shadow slides along the wall catching your eye and you wonder what kind of picture you paint right now. Bed tangled hair, Cassian’s oversized shirt falling off one shoulder and his cum slowly sliding down your inner thigh.
You reach Azriel’s door, hold your breath a little and push it open without knocking. He’s bent over his paperwork, hair tousled slightly from running his hands through it, wings slouching a little behind him. At first he doesn’t look up from his work.
“I’ll be just a few more minut-” You see the moment your mingled scents reach him. His whole body stiffens, his head snaps up to take you in, his pupils blow wide like a predator that’s just spotted its favourite prey and the pen in his hand snaps in half.
He moves faster than you've ever seen and has you pinned to the wall in a second.
Azriel leans forward and whispers across your neck “I was wondering what you two were up to when the bonds cut off.”
You can’t even form words as Azriel consumes every sense. His warm body pressed against yours, his right leg nestled against your core. His scent sends your brain into overdrive and all you can manage is a small whimper as you roll your hips against his thigh.
“I can smell his seed on you sweetheart, did he not satisfy you enough?” His voice is deep and rumbling. His wings are flared out behind him blocking you from the empty room as his shadows make agitated swirls along his wings.
“Please Az, he didn’t let me.” You grab the front of his leathers pulling yourself closer to him as your hips continue to find friction on his thigh.
Azriel freezes. He becomes so still you wonder if he’s even breathing. You pull back and find that his eyes are almost completely black, his shadows have slowed to a crawl behind him, like a snake coiled for attack. A shiver runs down your spine as you realise you're staring into the stone cold eyes of the Night Courts Spymaster. You silently berate yourself for wanting him more for it.
He pushes off the wall and you instantly miss the feel of him against you but he slides his fingers around your wrist as he pulls you from the room.
“I’m going to fucking kill him, I swear.” He snarls as he leads you back down the hall to your room.
—--------------------------------------------------------------------
Just as Azriel turns to enter the bedroom one of his shadows snaps out and wraps itself around Cassian's neck.
“You wanted my attention?” Azriel curls his free hand into a fist and the shadow tightens around his airway. Cassian sits up in the bed and attempts to pull the shadow away, struggling for air.
“Now you have it.” Azriel snarls, dropping your wrist and striding towards the bed.
“Az don’t hurt him!” You cry out and try to tug Azriel backwards.
The shadow loosens but remains looped around Cassian's neck. He pulls in gasping breaths that match Azriel's heaving chest as he towers over the end of the bed.
I’m okay baby girl, he’s not going to hurt me. Cassian’s gruff voice enters your mind.
Y/N you should go clean up while I deal with him. With the bond now open Azriel’s cool tone slides into your mind as well.
But- You begin a little unsure but you’re quickly interrupted.
She knows the safe word, she doesn’t have to go anywhere. Cassian sits up straighter glaring at Azriel in challenge.
More of Azriel’s shadows begin to crawl along the bed.
Why does she know the safe word? Azriel seethes.
You stand frozen watching the back and forth between them.
Well I wasn’t going to edge her without the safe word was I? Cassian cocks his head to the side and you swear you see a vein pop in Azriel’s neck.
Azriel spins and you duck a little to avoid his outstretched wings.
“How many times?” His dark eyes now fall to you.
Cassian replies before you can “It was onl-”
The shadow around Cassian’s neck slides onto his face, gagging him. Other shadows pounce from the mattress and swirl around his wrists pinning him down.
“I swear to the Cauldron if you fucking speak again.” Azriel growls over his shoulder. He stands before you, the picture of death. Dark wings splayed across the room, hands balled into fists, muscles strung tight. And you're surprised to find your voice does not waiver as you reply.
“Three times.”
“Y/N it’s up to you if you want to stay or go.” He nods sharply and turns back to face Cassian, giving you the opportunity to slip out of the room without a fuss if needed. Instead you slip past him, climb onto the bed above Cassian’s head and rest against the headboard. Both their eyes trail your movements before Azriel’s land on Cassian again.
“So you think you can take pleasure from my mate and leave her unsatisfied?” Azriel begins loosening the top of his leathers as he paces around the bed. He reaches for the sheet that is still covering Cassian’s bottom half and whips it away.
“Figures you’d be hard again, you always were a fucking whore. Maybe you’ve lost your touch? Couldn’t keep it up long enough for Y/N to get off?” He breathes a sinister chuckle.
A low growl ripples through Cassian’s chest, still gagged and bound by shadows, at the insinuation.
“Would you like to help me teach him a lesson love?” Azriel questions you as he removes the top half of his leathers and undershirt sending muscles rippling.
Your mouth is watering at the sight of him and it’s all you can do to nod dumbly as you reply “Yes please.”
Azriel’s eyes spark in surprise and then the mattress dips beside you as he leans towards you.
“Show me how he used you sweetheart.” His fingers brush gently down the length of your jaw.
You send the images flickering down the bond – of Cassian’s mouth on you, his hands bringing you to the edge and finally of you riding atop him.
Azriel’s eyes are completely black as they flick between yours. Wordlessly he reaches for you and pulls you into his arms. Cut him off baby girl. His deep voice curls in the back of your mind as his soft lips brush against yours. You do as he says, lifting a shield between your mind and Cassian’s.
Cassian’s throat rips open in snarls from where he lays on the bed with the two of you kneeling before him. Your eyes flick across to him, your heart constricting at his distress and you immediately want to reach out to him.
He’s okay. Azriel’s fingers find their way under your chin turning your attention back to him. He’s just swearing at me profusely for cutting him off. First I want to take care of you. He begins to trail kisses down your neck. Then we can deal with him.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------
Cassian watches from the top of the bed as Azriel positions you on all fours. You’re faced towards him, cheeks flushed and pupils blown wide. Cauldron he wishes he wasn’t bound right now.
Give her back. Cassian growls down the bond at Azriel. Furious he’s been shut out from your mind, from your emotions, with you so close.
You can have her back when I think you deserve it. Azriel snarls as he slides into you from behind. Cassian watches your breath catch, feels you clench at the sheets beneath them and he’s slowly going mad. He struggles against the shadows that pin his wrists to the bed and attempts to shift the shadows that bind his mouth. He’s never been so close to safe wording before. Your proximity but infinite distance pulls and frays at every instinct he has.
Azriel has set a hard and fast pace, bringing you to the edge that Cassian refused to tip you over. And as you come undone with panting whimpers, Cassian bucks his hips into the air with a muffled groan, failing to find the friction his leaking cock is begging for.
Azriel slides out of you, cock still hard and glistening from your release. That’s how you pleasure my mate Cassian. Azriel’s growl filters through the bond.
Fuck you, she’s mine too. Cassian bites back, the only way he can right now.
Oh no, I think I’ll fuck you. He smirks darkly. Eventually.
Azriel gives you a small nod and you crawl forward towards Cassian, and Hel if he was standing he would have gone to his knees at the sight.
Your plush lips wrap around his head and he throws his head back against the pillow, a groan escapes between clenched teeth. Fuck this might be all he needs to survive, forget food and water he’ll live off your touch alone if he needs to.
Your head bobs up and down his length and he can feel the pleasure building. Can feel his muscles tightening, ready to pump his release down his pretty mates throat.
Suddenly Azriel has his hand wrapped in the hair at the nape of your neck pulling you off him with a small pop.
“Good girl, that’s enough.” Azriel purrs into your ear before capturing your mouth with his, sliding his tongue along your lower lip.
Cassian’s chest rises and falls in deep pants. Release me now Azriel or I swear to the Cauldron I’l-
You’ll what? Azriel cocks his head to the side. You’re not really in any position to be making demands.
Azriel releases you then to lie back on the bed. He looms over Cassian, face hovering only inches away, wings flared wide behind him almost blacking out the room. You have a pretty face General, but I want to hear those pretty noises to match. He punctuates his remark by sliding two long fingers inside Cassian.
Cassian’s skin already feels like it’s on fire and Azriel’s assault on that spot inside him might just cause him to combust. He simultaneously wants to throw Azriel through the nearest wall and kiss his stupidly handsome face. Azriel hadn’t let himself take control like this since they had accepted the mating bond with Y/N and Cassian had finally found the right buttons to press - Y/N’s. Now he was both reaping the benefits and paying the price for it.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------
You lay beside your mates as you take in Azriel at work. The bulge of his arms, the scars that litter his torso criss-cross with Illyrian swirls, the half smirk that graces his lips as he pulls whimpers from Cassian.
Azriel’s eyes are still clouded in darkness, wholly focused on the task at hand which now appears to be Cassian’s punishment.
Long fingers slide in and out of Cassian, stretching him open with every pass. You want to reach out to him, to open the bond and allow your emotions to mingle with his but you don’t want to go against Azriel’s command. This was the control that Cassian had alluded to. The side of Azriel they had kept away from you. The night you found out about the mating bond comes back to you...
‘ You don’t scare me, Shadowsinger. You let admiration flow through the bond along with your words. In a blink of an eye Azriel is crowded over you, arms braced on the sides of your chair.
Really? He smirks down at you in challenge ‘
Should you be afraid right now? Azriel hovers over Cassian propped on an elbow. One hand thrusting inside him the other pulling at the hair from the top of his scalp. He’s grinning down at Cassian’s muffled cries like he might just sink his teeth into his flesh to make him cry out more. His wings a flare out dimming the room and the shadows that hold Cassian down are joined by others that swirl along the bed, slide over muscled bodies, until they appear to be drowning in darkness.
But Cassian doesn’t fight for the surface, his head is thrown back as moans of pleasure reverberate through his chest like he’d willingly give his last breath for Azriel to keep going. Suddenly you watch Cassian stiffen, his eyes shooting open as Azriel stills. You’re sure more violent words are exchanged between them as Azriel once again denies Cassian of his release.
Your skin tingles at the sight and without an ounce of fear, you realise that maybe you want to drown in the darkness too.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cassian’s eyes flick to you as you move across the bed but you keep your gaze locked to Azriel. You slide a hand across his shoulder and he rises at your gentle command, settling onto his knees. Your focus never wavers as you settle yourself across Cassian’s waist towards the shadowsinger. His grin is gone and he watches your every movement carefully. You let your eyes wander down his toned chest, watch his abs flex under your gaze before landing on his thick length. Azriel’s hard cock brushes his stomach, the thick vein running along the underside revealed to you. His cock hovers only inches from Cassian’s which is flushed red as you watch a bead of precum swell at the tip. With them both straining before you, you can’t help but imagine what it would be like to take them both at the same time. To have them filling you, stretching you -
Oh sweetheart, say the word and your wish is my command. Azriel purrs. Your eyes flick to meet black ones as you lift yourself from your perch on Cassian’s chiselled torso, giving him the perfect view of your ass, before sinking down on his length. His hips make a feeble attempt to meet yours but Azriel is upon you, strong calloused hands gripping your hips and holding you down.
Azriel’s mouth captures yours, nipping and sucking at your bottom lip. His rough hands explore your body, sliding over soft skin and cupping your breasts. You let out a small whimper at the all consuming sensation of one mate stretching you open while the other runs expert hands along every nerve. Azriel pulls back, a short growl rolling from his chest.
“What’s wrong?” You pant softly. “He won’t keep quiet.” His eyes flick over your shoulder momentarily at Cassian. The lord of bloodshed was never one to go quietly, so you can only imagine what he’s throwing down the bond at Azriel right now. Azriel takes up your hands in his and places them on his shoulders. He leans forward, lips brushing your neck and murmurs “Hold on sweetheart.” Your fingers flex into thick muscle as he leans into you.
“You want more General?” He snarls over you before lifting Cassian’s hips slightly. The movement forces him even deeper inside you and you can’t help the moan that escapes your lips. Without warning Azriel slams into him. Cassian lets out a muffled cry that you hope is more pleasure than pain.
“Is that enough for you?” Azriel chuckles darkly. Azriel’s large hands envelop your waist once more as he guides you up and down on Cassian in time with his own thrusts. You let yourself go, let Azriel use your body to pleasure Cassian as all you can focus on is your own. When you find yourself on the edge again Azriel’s gentle purr is there.
Drop your shield, let him feel all of you Y/N.
You do as he says, dropping your mental shield and finally opening the bond to Cassian again. A flood of emotion washes over you, of relief, anger, envy, happiness all swirling together but the prevailing sense of lust is all consuming.
Cassian’s emotions tangling with your own is overwhelming and that coil building inside of you snaps. You fall willingly into the dark abyss of your release. Seeing you reach your climax has both of your mates falling after you and soon the only sound in the room is the mix of panting breaths.
Azriel recalls his shadows and immediately Cassian claims you. He grabs your sides and twists you towards him, lips laying kisses to any piece of skin in his reach.
Y/N? Cassian’s low timbre reverberates in your mind, soft and timid.
I’m here Cass. You run your fingers through his soft hair, doing your best to calm him. Are you okay?
Never better sweetheart. His fingers trace circles on your back. Just need you here. Need you close.
Having the bond cut off had obviously taken a toll on him, like a carrot on a stick Azriel had dangled you in front of him the entire time.
You are far tastier than a carrot my love. I just need a few minutes to recentre. Also I’m afraid if I let you go I’ll make good on some of the nastier promises I made Az. His broad chest bounces beneath you with his chuckle.
Yes you were starting to get rather creative towards the end there. Azriel chuckles along with him. I’ll get you both some water.
Azriel’s weight lifts from the bed as you lean down and kiss Cassian softly.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------
So, this is what you’ve both been keeping from me? You slowly trace the Illyrian tattoos along Cassian’s chest with your fingertips. He ponders the ceiling for a moment before responding.
When we first met Azriel at the Illyrian camps, he was untrained, never learnt to fly and had a darkness that trailed after him. His mouth quirks with a smile, obviously remembering the time fondly. However your bottom lip juts out in a pout, recalling why it was so in the first place.
After bein- Cassian paused for a moment After the childhood he had, having never known a sense of control, his untamed power would just take over. He ended up in twelve fights in his first week at camp.
Cassian leaned down, absentmindedly brushing his lips to the top of your head.
Shortly after the mating bond snapped we discovered a way for him to manage. An outlet that gave him full control when he felt himself slipping into the darkness. Everyone thought his new friendship and proximity to the future High Lord was the cause of the change. That he was now able to maintain focus, control and wield his power better than ever. Only Rhys and I knew the truth.
It was very generous of you, to become that for him. You smile softly.
Cassian breaks out into a deep laugh, the vibrations tingling your skin.
Oh no, it wasn’t generosity at all. He grins widely. My horny ass got me caught out after Az got in a fight with Rhys one night. His eyes went dark, shadows flying, solid muscle straining in flight leathers. He looked as if death came to walk the earth and I got fucking hard. He laughs again at himself. Az scented it and jumped me, Rhys couldn’t winnow away fast enough. I guess you could say the darkness called to me.
I think I know the feeling. You giggled to yourself. Cassian raised a hand to your chin, pulling your eyes to his dazzling grin still wide.
And that is why we are made for each other my love. He pulls you in for another lingering kiss.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------
Azriel softly pads back to the bedroom with two glasses in hand. He’d stopped at his room to throw on soft pants and a light shirt even though he didn’t want to be away from either of you for a second. It felt strange not being the one comforting Cassian right now but he knew that Y/N was what he needed. Especially after he had made her withhold the bond. Azriel pulls his bottom lip between sharp teeth. He has to admit that was dark, even for him. But Cassian never truly wavered and that scared him a little. One day he was going to do something that caused Cassian to truly snap and there would be no going back.
Azriel reaches your bedroom door and takes in the sight of his mates tangled together. Y/N half sprawled over Cassian, hair fanned across his chest. Cassian’s hand resting possessively on your hip, holding you to him even as you rested in a state between sleep and awake. He doesn’t know how long he stands there taking them in. Gods they look like they were made for eachother. Like they were poured from the Cauldron in the same moment and have only now found their way back to each other. Both so beautiful, strong and filled with light.
He catches one of his shadows sliding along the bed to you both and his heart freezes. In your combined blooms of light his shadow is the thorny vine. The weed that is pruned as to not cause destruction and decay to the beauty.
Azriel stumbles back towards the hall. How did he not see it? For so long he thought the Cauldron had made a mistake in giving him Cassian. And of course he never deserved a second mate, especially not one as brilliant as Y/N. And now here was the proof.
Perhaps he was a placeholder until you and Cassian could meet? Perhaps he was a mistake altogether? Whatever the reason, he saw it clearly now. He didn’t belong between you, he was a burden to be shouldered and you both deserved so much more. You deserved each other. He slipped from the room completely.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s the suffocating warmth that has you rolling away from Cassian. You’re sure he runs ten degrees hotter than any normal being. You slide your fingers along the sheets searching for the cool touch of your shadowsinger, only to come up empty. You sit up scanning the dark room but don’t find a single shadow out of place.
Azriel never returned with the waters he promised and there are no glasses on the bedside table to suggest he returned at all. Cassian mumbles into the pillow beside you as you pull his discarded shirt over your head for the second time tonight. You swing your legs off the bed and pad down the hall.
You approach the dim light of the kitchen to find a note pinned beneath a blade on the kitchen counter. Panic begins to set in, your heart pounding in your chest. You hear a commotion down the hall and pray to the Cauldron that it’s Azriel who will appear to quiet the noise pulsing in your head.
But it’s Cassian who stumbles into the kitchen next to you. Sensing your distress he’d obviously lept from the bed only pausing long enough to collect his underwear and a blade.
“What’s wrong?” He pants eyes darting around the room, assessing for a threat. You nod towards the note on the counter not trusting your voice.
He approaches it cautiously, as if it could jump from the surface and attack at any moment. He pushes the blade aside, picks up the note and reads it in the time it takes for you to figure out how to breathe again.
You watch as Cassian’s wings fall. The tips dragging on the ground. He reads the note again as if that will change anything about its contents.
His hand falls and he steps towards you, handing you the note.
“He’s gone.” His low voice rumbles.
My love,
Forgive me. I hope this letter remains in one piece long enough for you to read but I can understand if you do not grant me such a privilege. I never thought I would need to say goodbye to you, as you are my home. But I can not jeopardise your safety, Y/N’s safety, any longer. After centuries my darkness still remains unpredictable and for so long you have been its balm. Somehow you have kept the shadows inside me at bay.
But now my darkness threatens your new light. Y/N is everything you have always deserved. She is warmth, calm, serenity and whilst I wish beyond anything to bask in that light along with you I cannot take that risk.
I know I do not have the right to ask anything of you now but I beg of you to take care of her. Be her protector where I cannot, be the strength she needs and the mate I cannot be. Until my last breath I will be yours.
Always. Azriel.
“He’s gone.” You manage to choke out.
—--------------------------------------------------------------------
Azriel scratches another line into the rough rock wall. Three months. It’s been three months since he left and he’s not sure how he’s still breathing.
Originally he planned to flee the Night Court entirely, settle far away perhaps on the continent. But he couldn’t bring himself to even cross the border.
He could stay close, he told himself. He could embody the shadows that are loyal to him, become a part of the darkness. From this small cave in the mountainside he could watch over Velaris, monitor for danger. Maybe one day he’d even have the strength to return to the city, moving between the shadows only to catch a glimpse of his mates on an errand.
He could see it now, Cassian trailing after Y/N complaining about carrying all of the gifts you’d buy for Starfall. You’d give some witty reply and then stand on tiptoes to place a kiss on his cheek.
Starfall. It was tonight. Azriel’s eyes traced the sky as if he’d already catch a glimpse of those dazzling lights in the waning evening light. He’d never been apart from Cassian on this night, he’d never even had the chance to properly spend it with Y/N. But you had each other and you would be safe from him.
He rubs at his chest. His heart straining behind his ribs, as if it feels betrayed by him, as if it will leave him here in this cave and return to his mates alone. Azriel takes a steadying breath and steps back into the darkness of the cave. He wouldn’t go back. They were better without him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You stood on the balcony of the eerily quiet House of Wind. On Starfall your home was usually a buzz of activity but this year Rhysand had moved the festivities to his river house to give you some peace and quiet.
But the quiet was suffocating as you stood alone. One mate was missing and the other…
Cassian had become a shadow of himself. After Azriel left he trained less, took on less missions from Rhys and eventually stopped leaving his room.
Every morning you bought him food, every evening you curled up with him and told him of your day but you could feel him slipping from you.
His once dark black wings had begun to fade to an ashy grey. On the days he dressed his sirens remained dull and lifeless. You were lost on what more you could do. You were losing him.
Tears roll down your cheeks and reflect the first tumbling lights of Starfall. An all encompassing sadness washes over you, your lungs becoming tight and it slowly becomes harder to breathe. It was as if your emotions were too much for one person to hold.
Your breath catches in your throat. It couldn’t be?
Azriel? You reach out.
After months of Azriel having the bond shutdown you didn’t realise when he’d crept back in. You try to reach for more but you feel his presence sliding away.
No. He had to stay. You couldn’t keep going on like this. You throw down the bond the one thing that might get him to stay.
I think Cassian is dying. You let out a sob. Azriel he’s fading and I don’t know what to do.
One moment you're watching the stars fall from the sky, the next they’re blacked out by a pair of wings high above you. The Illyrian drops sharply from the sky and lands heavily next to you, vibrations sent rumbling through the stone.
“Az?” You whisper.
Azriel straightens from his landing. He looks disheveled, hair askew, dark circles permanently embedded under even darker eyes.
“I know I don’t deserve-“ he doesn’t look at you as he speaks. “What’s wrong with him? Was he poisoned? Injured?” He stares out over the balcony and you can see his jaw clench.
“You left.” You growl out.
“That’s not important right no-“ He snarls
“No! You. Left. Azriel. That’s what’s wrong with him.” You throw the images down the bond. Cassian slumped in his chair. Of his fading complexion. Wings barely lifted from the floor.
Azriel flinches at the sight. Then he finally looks at you. Tears welling in his eyes.
“I had to Y/N.” He swallows thickly. “My nature is literally the depths of darkness. I skate a thin line of control and I can’t afford to fall from that ledge now that there is you.”
“Az-“ You move to step toward him.
“No.” Azriel shakes his head and side steps further from you. “You don’t understand. Cassian is whole and good and light. He is the moon. And you. You are his stars. You are two of the same. Meant for each other.” He grips the balcony's ledge so tightly the scars of his hands bloom white. Your emotions are at war inside you. You are furious that he left, joyful that he has returned and heart broken that he doesn’t see himself the way you do.
“If Cassian is the moon and I am the stars then Azriel you are our night sky.” You move to him now, resting your hands lightly on his forearm. The note he left that night beginning to make sense. “Your darkness doesn’t dim our light, it’s the reason for our brightness. Your darkness is the blanket in which we rest, the sanctuary in which we relied upon.” You take a steadying breath.
You begin to step back, to give him some space “But if your heart does not beat for us the way-“
Azriel’s hand snaps to your wrist and suddenly you find yourself wrapped in his arms, your face burrowed in his chest. His lips brush against the top of your head.
“Do not. For a second. Insinuate that I don’t think of you both in every second of every day.” You hold him infinitely closer at his words.
Time stretches on between you as you stand in each other's arms. Eventually you pull back.
“I need to tell Cassian that you’re here.” Azriel releases you from his arms and immediately you want to go back to him.
“You will stay?” You ask wary that as soon as you turn he will disappear again.
He nods. “I’ll wait to see him.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The door clicks closed on Cassian’s room as you step back into the hall. You find Azriel there waiting for you.
“He said” you pause.
“He doesn’t want to see me.” Azriel finishes unsurprised.
“Yes.” You admit quietly.
“It’s okay Y/N. He’s always been a stubborn ass.” His lips lift in a soft smirk. “I deserve much worse.” His wings fall and he turns to walk back down the hall. You quickly follow not wanting to let him out of your sight.
He pulls a chair out from the dining table and slumps into it. Instead of taking a seat of your own, you move to stand between his legs. He welcomes you into his space, hands finding your hips as your fingers brush across a stubbled jaw.
“I want to stay.” He whispers, dark eyes meeting yours.
“Then stay Azriel.” You whisper back. Letting your fingers trail across his face, committing every line and freckle to memory.
“How will you forgive me?” He turns to brush his lips along your palm. “How will he?”
“Just give it some time Azriel. He needs to know that you are staying for good. That you are committed to this.” You can’t bring yourself to say that you need it too, but you can see in Azriel’s eyes that he understands.
You stand in peace for a moment. Azriel was far from forgiven but he was here, back in your arms, back where he belonged.
“I’ll take the dedication.” Azriel nods after a moment, as if all is decided.
“The dedication?” You take a half step back trying to read his face.
“It’s an old Illyrian custom, the greatest act of commitment of one Illyrian to another.” He stands from the chair and takes your hands in his.
“It’s a sacrifice I will make for him and for you. I don’t expect either of you to forgive me right away but it’s a start.” His eyes are determined as they flick between yours.
He brings your hands to his lips and kisses each of them gently.
“I have to go to Windhaven. But I’ll be back soon.” He releases your hands and goes to move away.
“Wait.” You put a hand to his chest. “If this dedication is so important why haven’t you or Cassian taken it before?”
“Cassian wouldn-” He pauses. “It’s an outdated tradition. It’s rarely completed anymore. But I promise Y/N.” He steps forward and places a light kiss to your cheek “I’ll be back.”
He disappears over the closest balcony and a sinking feeling won’t leave your gut. Azriel is desperate to fix things between the three of you. What if this dedication is dangerous? What if he doesn’t return because he no longer can?
Azriel had said it was an old tradition no a sacrifice, but of what? He said that Cassian wouldn’t… No. This is bad. Whatever this dedication was Cassian didn’t want it from Azriel, which meant it was definitely dangerous. And Cassian was in no state to stop him. You did the only thing you could think to do.
Rhysand!
—-------------------------------------------------------------------
Rhys arrived at the house only moments later, his deep velvet suit twinkling with the lights of Starfall. Within the Night Court you could usually always reach him, but given recent events he had been extra vigilant of you and Cassian.
“I’m sorry to pull you from your family tonight.” You apologise.
“You are all part of my family. Is he okay?” Rhys tilts his head in consideration.
“Cass is fine. What’s the dedication?” You rush out.
“What? How do you know about dedication?” He looks at you with wide eyes and gods that cannot be good.
“Azriel’s back. Cassian wouldn’t see him and he’s gone to Windhaven to take the dedication. What is it? Is it another Rite?” The more you talk the whiter Rhys’ face becomes. And then he’s furious.
“That fucking fool.” Rhysand’s wings burst forth and he pivots heading back the way he came, to the stairs to the rooftop.
“Rhys?” You rush after him, taking the stairs two at a time.
“The dedication is an ancient Illyrian tradition. Usually performed by females.” His low growls echo through the stone stairwell. “It’s the ultimate act of submission of one Illyrian to another.”
Your stomach rolls at the implications. If the Illyrians no longer performed this dedication then it had to be truly barbaric.
“What act?” You pant out as Rhys reaches the door to the roof.
He turns to you briefly, “He’s going to remove his wings.”
You freeze. Your body literally locks into place at the top of stairs as Rhysand bursts onto the roof and takes flight, disappearing into the night sky.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------
You don’t know how long you stand there, frozen in place. Azriel was going to remove his wings? Maybe they were already gone?
No. You couldn’t think like that. But why did he think you’d want that? Cassian wouldn’t want that, would he?
A thousand more questions run through your mind before your trance is broken by the appearance of two bodies in the sky above you.
Suddenly one body shoves away from the other and two pairs of Illyrian wings are silhouetted by the lights of Starfall.
Thank the Cauldron. Rhysand had reached him in time. You can hear their shouts of arguing far above you, but you can’t make out what’s being said.
You take the moment to reach out to Cassian.
Cass. You feel his warmth wrap around your mind. It always felt like being rugged up near a crackling fire when he reached for you. Azriel took off to Windhaven to take the dedication. He’s okay. Rhysand brought him back. All the warmth leached from your mind and you felt his side of the bond go cold. You let out a breath. You’d deal with that issue later, you could only handle one problem at a time right now.
Rhysand and Azriel were finally gliding back to the roof, both looking furious. As Azriel’s feet touch down you’re almost sent tumbling by a black blur flying past you. Cassian collides heavily with Azriel, sending his back slamming into the wall of the house.
Cassian, now dressed in full Illyrian leather's red sirens flaring brighter than you had seen in weeks, has Azriel pinned with a forearm to his chest.
“What the fuck are you thinking.” He snarls.
Azriel doesn’t even attempt to fight back, he allows himself to be held against the wall, wings flared on either side.
Rhysand takes quick stock of the situation like he’s seen this scenario play out a hundred times before and maybe he had. His eyes find yours and you give him a small nod, giving your thanks and letting him know that you’ll be okay. Rhys takes to the sky once again, returning to his family at the River House.
“You don’t get to reappear after three months and then take off to Windhaven for the dedication!” You’d never seen the fury in Cassian directed at Azriel before.
“What were you going to do huh?” He doesn’t wait for Azriel to respond. His voice raises as he becomes more desperate “Go through all that pain, retrain for weeks to adjust to the change in balance, just to rejoin a battle and leave yourself vulnerable? You enter a ward and you don’t winnow out! Did you think about that? That you wouldn’t be able to leave the ground anymore? That you wouldn’t be able to get out? That you wouldn’t be able to get her out?” Cassian tosses his head back in your direction. Azriel's eyes flick from Cassian to you and you can tell he hadn’t thought about it. That type of combat was Cassian’s forte. Those are the things that Cassian would always think about first.
“For what Azriel?” He lifts his forearm and slams it back into his chest.
“For you!” Azriel finally shouts back. “For you and for her. I would gladly deliver my wings to you on a silver platter if it meant you would even look in my direction again.”
“What?” Cassian steps back stunned.
“I left because I thought you’d both be better off without me.” Azriel pushes from the wall.
An image of you and Cassian tangled in bed together floods your vision and you realise it’s from the night Azriel left. You watch as his attention is drawn to one of his shadows crawling towards your resting figures and you know that's the moment he decided to leave.
You immediately answer with a memory of your own. With the conversation that directly preceded Azriel’s perspective.
He looked as if death came to walk the earth and I got fucking hard. Casian laughs at himself. Az scented it and jumped me, Rhys couldn’t winnow away fast enough. I guess you could say the darkness called to me.
I think I know the feeling. You giggled to yourself. Cassian raised a hand to your chin, pulling your eyes to his, dazzling grin still wide.
And that is why we are made for each other my love. He pulls you in for another lingering kiss.
You let the memory fade and you’re all brought back to the roof.
“You said we were the moon and the stars,” Cassian cocks his head in consideration as you step forward. And you already know you’ll have to fill him in on that conversation later. “But left to our own devices we burn each other out. You are the diffuser. You are the solace that cradles the light, that controls the burn.” You take his hand in yours, letting all the love and concern you have for him slide down the bond.
“If you thought she was made for me and I for her you were wrong.” Cassian’s voice is hoarse from the yelling. “We were made for you.”
Azriel’s eyes well with tears.
“And you walked away.” Cassian turns back to the house, all the fight now depleted from him.
Azriel bows his head in defeat.
“Cassian.” Azriel begs.
Cassian stills halfway to the door.
“I want to come home.” Azriel’s voice breaks.
“Then come home.” Cassian tosses over his shoulder before striding back into the house.

The Years Next Door (m!reader x Babymonster's ASA) - part I
part II - part III - part IV (coming, hopefully soon)

Summary: Enami Asa - one of, if not the most important person in your life - moved in next door a few years ago. You didn't know it back then. It started with an awkward first meeting, a shared family dinner and washing dishes together. Looking back now, you still remember it like it was yesterday. But when did things change between two of you? You don't know for sure - once things shifted, there was no going back for either of you.
tags(?): fluff, slice of life, first meeting, memories, soft-launch/good times before disaster strike??? (i don't know whether to end with a happy or sad ending yet)
ASA x yourself/Original Male Character
Word count: ~3.6k - i originally wanted to put out a full over 10k piece but i got too much plots in my mind to write, also i counldn't decide where to go with this story yet.
✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧
It was a few years ago, you don't remember exactly what day it was. The vibe, the weather of that day is still stuck with you until this day. It was in early February 2019, one of those days when the sky decided to be funny, somehow sunny but weirdly a bit rainy. The sun was still out with some light drizzles. It wasn’t that cold but the breeze made you zip up your hoodie. You usually hate this type of weather, sticky, wet- just uncomfortable enough to make you regret going out. You could've been enjoying your Man Utd football manager save, in the comfort of your own room right now (damn my team still sucks in real life). But that fateful day? Somehow… you felt different, it was relaxing, like the world was preparing to surprise you with something.
You were on your way home after hanging out with your dummy friend group at uncle Youngcheol's PC bang, right before the start of middle school - your newly purchased hoodie damp, fingers still smelling faintly like that public keyboard-mouse mix. A bit gross, but comforting and familiar to be honest. And those dummies, you guys are still in touch till this day - great friends those guys. A few blocks away from home, you were thinking about asking mom to make you your favourite dish for lunch, 된장찌개 (Doenjang jjigae) - her signature dish. Just the imagination of the smell got you feeling excited. Little did you know, you were just a few meters away from meeting the girl who would completely change the trajectory of your life.
Turning the corner onto your street, there was a moving truck parked next to your house, on the right. You live in Eungam-dong - a quiet cozy neighborhood in Seoul. It was nice, full of 2,3 story ground level houses with sleek, clean and modern design. You wouldn’t say you grew up rich, the neighborhood itself is nice-nice, not rich. Houses were seperated by low brick walls, providing sufficient privacy and warmth between neighbors. Needless to say, you had a great childhood that you wouldn’t trade for anything in the world, with memories along those peaceful sidewalks.
“Huh, someone’s moving in?” You thought, probably a new family. You didn’t give it too much thought, just wanted to get all cozy in bed and wait for lunch. As you got closer, mom was helping a woman with some boxes her age. And dad? He looked relaxed, happily talking to someone, in Japanese. An old friend of his, maybe? Wait… dad’s Japanese is that good? You slowed down, a bit confused.
“Oh, would you look at that? My dear son, the crown prince himself has decided to come home after evading his errands. Welcome back, my dear boy.” Mom jokingly glared at you, one of those you-really-ditched-housework-huh? looks.
Mom and dad never really yelled at you. And they didn’t need to. They are loved and respected by everyone in the neighborhood. Your dad, a respected doctor at a research center in Seoul, and mom, a lovely, sweet but razor-sharp stay at home wife. Mom made sure you had your favorite Legos, those retro Man Utd kits - ONLY IF you do well in school. Dad would give you some pocket money every week and would raise his eyebrows if you did something dumb, and somehow that was scarier than any other punishments. They didn’t expect you to be perfect, they wanted you to be a real, solid man who knows how to take care of himself and everyone else. They knew what you needed throughout your childhood but made sure you earned it. They managed to raise you right by being by your side. And for that, you are thankful, your parents are the reason why you turned into the man you are today.
“C’mon, mom. It was just a few hours, I did clean the kitchen this morning tho.” Damn, you were such a whiny teenager.
“Just come here and help our new neighbor, kiddo”. Welp, there went your doenjang jjigae, right down the drain. And that was it, no warning, no pausing, your life was tilted off its original path.
Also, neighbor? Ever since you were a kid, you were not the outgoing type. Your friends would describe you as someone who is really quiet - maybe even scary to strangers due to your resting face (can’t help that, thanks mom, dad). To be fair, you weren’t cold. Never had been, just shy and a bit introverted. If people actually take time and try to get to know you, they’d find out that you’re a great guy. Okay, that sounds like you’re just glazing yourself but that’s just the truth. It wasn’t like you hating having next door neighbors either, honestly the elder couple next door had always been really sweet to you since you were a kid. You were just… say, not in the mood for meeting new people.
You rushed to get the box from the woman next to the woman next to your mom, not without nodding and bowing a bit to greet her. She smiled a bit, giving that same warmth your mom always has with people.
“Put it next to the door, please. Thanks, Joonhyuk-ah”. Oh, mom told her your name already. Her Korean was good, soft - but you caught the Japanese accent right away. You turned towards the doorway, hands holding the mysterious box which had a bit of weight to it. And there they were, three people… sisters? The two tall girls were talking to each other, stopping just to look and smile politely at you. The awkward first meeting got weirder as you tried to say hi with all the Japanese you learnt from all those years watching Captain Tsubasa, Doraemon and Detective Conan (which was horrendous by the way). They were both beautiful in their own ways, but now looking back, you really got on well with them both, no problem at all. And there she was, a slightly shorter girl standing behind them, peaking out. She was out of this world, felt like an ancient Oriental goddess from those folklores in elementary school just came to life, standing right there and slapped you in the face with that beauty. You know that feeling when you meet someone for the first time and they just look so good that you couldn’t do anything but stand there like an idiot? Yeah, that kind of beauty. You couldn’t really tell what it was or how but her nose, her eyes, and her lips just go so well together, and her long hair too. She’s got her hair short now, but man, her long hair back then still got you feeling some type of way.
“Uhm, hi” you stuttered, box still in hands.
“Hey, you can leave it here”. There was something so graceful, so feminine but not in a try-hard way about her gestures. The way she smiled, the way she pointed to the right, the way she spoke Korean so well, her voice... Maybe she’s your type? You had a few crushes on girls in elementary school and all that but damn, no one had ever made you feel this way.
“Joonhyuk-ah, come help me with these”
“Uh… my dad’s calling me. Hi…” why did you say hi again you idiot.
Trying your best not to dig another grave for yourself, you turned and jogged, awkwardly, to your dad and his friends. Despite trying your best, you couldn’t help but overthink about what the girls were giggling about.
2 hours (?) and a few stolen glances at her later, you got home with your parents and your dad told you all about them, not without his usual mischief. The man was Mr. Enami Masaru, his old friend from university way back then - just by the tone of your dad, you could tell he was really excited about having his good old mate moving in next door. Apparently, they would also be working with each other at your dad’s research center from now on. His wife, Ms. Enami Keiko, carried the same vibe just like your mom - you were glad that she had a friend her age in your neighborhood. Their two elder children, Lisa and Chisa, are both older than you. Why do their whole family look so good? They look like they came out of a fashion ma...
“So have you talked to Asa yet, honey? I heard she’s your age” your mom asked, snapping you back to reality.
“Really? I thought you were born in 2005.” your dad said. You didn’t even know if he was being for real or joking.
“C’mon, dad. It’s 2006”
“Oh yeah, then you’ve got yourself a new girlfriend” your parents laughed. Girlfriend? Sure she looked great, her voice was great, and her hair… her hair.
Maybe, just maybe, you got feelings for her.
“I just said hi, mom. Didn’t really know what to talk about. You know I get shy easily.” you said, crashing face first onto the family couch.
“Better dress nice tonight, we invited them over for dinner tonight. Asa’s coming too, she’s going to your school too so try and help the lovely girl because you guys will be seeing each other for the next few years”. Great, just great. The way your mom said that so cheerfully just let you know it wasn’t going to be an easy night.
Seeing each other for the next few years? What did mom mean? You were already considering moving out of the neighborhood after that dumb greeting. Anything to erase that memory or reset it.
Mom told you to be downstairs at 7. You hate people who are never on time, but you for once gave yourself a righteous excuse to be late, hoping the seats would all be taken and avoid awkward talks. But no, your mom - who seemed weirdly chippier than usual - patted the seat beside her, calling you:
“Joonhyuk-ah, sit sit”.
There Asa was, already seated next to the chair your mom was pointing at, hands politely on her laps, hair tucked behind her ear - words can’t describe how good she looked in that skirt and sweater. From that point on, you clearly knew, this girl was going to be the death of you.
The atmosphere was cozy - dads updating each other on their lives since uni, moms exchanging dish recipes like they had known each other for years, the older sisters talking about some TV show. Which left you and Asa behind, drowning in that awkward silence. While trying to sit down, your dumb ass accidently touched her knees. And again. That’s twice, TWICE*? She didn’t even say anything, just smiled at you - your heart, now beating over 130 bpm, your body, frozen.
*I love TWICE
Minutes went by, things had been smooth so for, apart from you two being awkward with each other. Mom’s food were great as usual, nothing to complain about, adults were mid conversation when your lovely mom decided to make your night worse, turning to Ms. Keiko who sat in front of her:
“Our Joonie is quite a talented kid, he’s been doing taekwondo since 6” your heart hadn't felt that heavy since mom caught you gaming in the middle of a school night a few months ago, almost dropping food onto the table.
“Oh yeah, the kid loves football too but his taekwondo is impressive. He got scouted for the national youth training program at a school competition. He’s doing great at school too. ” your dad added in with some food still in his mouth, way too proud. Mom just smacked his arms slightly, reminding him we were having guests over.
Your eyes were straight on the food in front you, but you swear you could feel Asa turning slightly, her gaze on you.
“Wow, that’s impressive,” Ms. Keiko said. “Our Asa’s got a lot to learn from you then.”
You smiled at her “Oh no, it’s just okay - not that great, Ms”.
“Asa will actually be attending the same middle school as you, we’ve done all the paperwork already.” she explained with a warm smile. “She’s been learning Korean for a while back in Japan but she’s still a bit shy. It’d be wonderful if you could help our Asa out. You two would get along so well”. The way she said that made you feel some sense of responsibility, like you look like the kid who we could trust to protect our daughter from now on.
Uhm, like, as in friends? Or… Your hearts skipped a few beats. “Of course, Ms. I’d be happy to help Asa out”.
Your first time saying her name out loud, made her look at you again. You weren’t aware but she was slightly blushing then, her sisters noticed tho. You tried to reach for some water but accidentally knocked your spoon into her bowl. Great, just great. Your misery just only started.
Lisa and Chisa started giggling - the sibling teasing kind of giggle, the worst kind. “Day 1 in Korea and you already have a boyfriend, Asa-chan”. Lisa said in Japanese while reaching for the fruits, with Chisa and their mother politely smiling. The dads, lost in their own world. You don’t speak Japanese but you knew for sure it had something to do with you. Asa’s blush returned quickly, trying to shut her sisters’ banter down with a glare but it didn’t really work.
Dinner went by quick, thankfully. You volunteered to do the dishes, not only out of hospitality but also wanting to catch a breath. The families gathered in the living room, reminiscing over dad’s old memories and hideous looking university photos in your family’s faded photobook. Speaking of university, what’d you do with your life when you get to uni? You didn’t give it much thought at that point, all you did was study, eat, taekwondo, game, repeat. Academic stuff wasn’t your priority back then, it was just that you happened to be goo-
“Hi” a quiet, soothing voice pulled you back to earth. Asa came by your side, rolling up her sleeves while smiling, eyes not quite looking at yours. “I’ll help”
“Oh it’s okay. I can do this by my-” “But it’s boring in the living room. I want to help you” now her eyes were really looking at you. You weren’t imagining or hallucinating but was she… pouting? Also, since when did you two start speaking in 반말*?
*반말/banmal - casual speech used to talk to friends, people who you feel close with. Not formal, not stiff
She didn’t ask, you awkward self certainly didn’t either. It just kinda happened. And honestly, it felt nice.
“Uhm, yeah. Thanks” you smiled back at her, still awkward but a good first step. You were on washing duty, hers was drying. For a moment, you guys didn’t say anything but it didn’t feel wrong, it felt warm, nice. Laughter came occasionally from the living room. Right then, you wished her hands would touch yours, even just for a little bit. Gathering up all your saved up courage in the system, you decided to break the ice. “Your Korean is really good.” you said, in moderate volume as you didn’t want anyone hearing.
“I’m glad you think it’s good.” She paused mid-dry, lips slowly forming a smile. “I practiced really hard to sound native… I don’t want to sound weird when school starts”
“No, It’s great. Don’t think too much about it”.
“Thanks… Joonhyuk-ah.” She looked at you again, now a bit longer. Oh shit, did she just say your name?
The two of you kept the same position, repeating the same actions, unaware of how comfortable you had grown.
“So, are you excited for school?”
She thought for a bit. “I guess, studying in a new country feels weird”.
“Yeah, it must be tiring for you. The kids at school are ok, not that bad.”
“Do you like school?”
“Depends on the day and my mood, I guess.” That made her chuckle - which sounded like heaven to your ears.
“I really appreciate you wanting to help me out, I felt really nervous before moving here.”
“It’s nice having you right next door, maybe we could go to school together everyday.”
She looked at you, feeling touched, surprised maybe - but you were just trying to finish the last dishes without thinking too much about what you said.
As the last dishes went into the rack, you both stood there, neither wanting to leave.
You glanced at the living room and cleared your throat. “So, can I have your Kakao?”
She blinked at you. “Instagram works too. It’d be easier for us to… you know, talk or text there. Help with school, or anything you want…”
She didn’t answer with words. Lovely smile on her face as she reached for her phone in her pocket.
“You can add me here.” your fingers brushed together as you tried to hold the phone to see it clearer,
“Looks like you’re quite famous on Insta.” you joked.
“Oh that… they’re just friends back from Japan. I just told pretty much everyone to follow me since I would be moving to Japan.” she smiled softly while trying to explain. “It feels less lonely that way”
“I don’t really know how to explain it… but I’m sure you will meet nice friends here too. Might be a bit hard at first but I’m here to help.” She then nodded, the faint sadness on her face disappeared.
“Do you want to go out together?” … “Not like that, you know, like-i could show you around the neighborhood, tomorrow? Get you up to date with everything around here.”
Her smile came back this time, a bit fuller. “That’s nice. I’d really like that”
Just right when you decided to say something, your mom called the both of you into the living room, must be time for dessert. Your moment together ended, but the feeling stayed with you that night.
✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧
A FEW HOURS LATER
You were cozy in bed, phone in hand - best feeling ever.
You had been like this for over 40 minutes now - scrolling through her Instagram. There were only about over 20 photos but something in your head made sure you had to get every detail in those photos. Of her.
You then decided to open up Kakao, tapping on her name. Her profile picture, gorgeous. Her background photo, the sky somewhere in Japan maybe? The tones really suited her. Her caption, which was in Japanese, confused the hell out of you. Must have been some kind of quote or life motto, gotta be that. Were you acting like a weirdo, staring at her social media like this?
Suddenly, your phone buzzed.
[아사]
hey, are you still up?
You weren’t hesitating at all.
[you]
still up, can’t really sleep tbh.
[아사]
same. sleeping in Korea feels weird. ㅋㅋㅋ
Cute - you thought to yourself.
[you]
uhm, really?
[아사] sent you a photo.
It was a screenshot of your… contact on Kakao. Why did she send it? Oh - your name, it was [준혁선베🥋] (Joonhyuk sunbae🥋… sunbae huh? Must have been because of that thing both your moms mentioned at the dinner table - but the typo made your heart want to jump right out)
You froze for a bit, heart fluttering - unsure how to reply.
[you]
that’s me?
[아사]
응, do you like it?
Of course I like it, hell maybe I like you right now but I can’t just say it, right?
[you] that’s great. but i’m not your sunbae, we’re the same age. also, it’s 선배 with a 배, not 베 tho ㅎㅎㅎㅎ
Your dumbass thought she was still a bit confused about the sunbae-hoobae thing.
[아사]
i knew something was off ㅜㅜ so embarrassing
i knowww. it’s just like a joke since you will be helping me out from now on, right?
[준혁선베🥋]
ㄱㅊㄱㅊ (it’s okay). no big deal
yeah, i’m here to help
You didn’t think much. You rushed to change her name right away, just before capturing it and sending it to her.
You sent a photo.
[김아사🌸]
kim asa?
hmm.
why is there a cherry blossom next to it?
[준혁선베🥋]
i mean, you speak Korean really well, so kim asa fits. the cherry blossom is…
i just think spring suits you well.
[김아사🌸]
that’s nice sunbae ㅋㅋ
Right then, you didn’t know what possessed you. Your fingers ran right over to the emoticon shop and chose one that suited her the most. There it was, Loopy. It cost you a bit but hey, anything to make her smile right? You sent along with a message: welcome to Korea gift ㅋㅋ
[김아사🌸]
???
oh you don’t have to omg
[준혁선베🥋]
but i wanted to, it’s cute too
Asa then sent you an emoticon of Loopy. blushing and waving.
[김아사🌸]
you’re nice sunbae
this one looks like you ㅎㅎㅎ
You’re nice…. I’m nice…. Cupid just shot you right in the heart with those words. You stopped for a few minutes. No thoughts, no words, just pure happiness in your system.
You watched her chat bubble. “typing…” it came and went, came and went.
You waited. 5 minutes passed.
12:46AM - you went in to check her profile once again. Still nothing.
Asa must had been sleeping already, leaving you with all these never-felt-before emotions.
“this one looks like you ㅎㅎㅎ”
Well, at least you two got to meet up tomorrow…
You kept smiling, the sleeping lamp light’s glow felt weird tonight, in a good way… Maybe something in your life changed, for the better.
✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧
So uh, yeah, my first piece, really hope you guys enjoy it - might be a few mistakes here and there but, please give me reviews/suggestions. Thank you very much ❤️❤️❤️. Big shout out to @stewpidcheescatarinabluu, @usedpidemo, @barnacles34, @erospandemos - who inspired me to get into writing. also, how do i get more interaction ㅠㅠㅠㅠ?

So.
Re: tumblr bans of transfemmes.
Let's ignore PhotoMatt for a moment. Manbaby tech CEO doubling down on a stupid decision and making himself look like more of an ass doing so is not a new phenomena.
Tumblr has consistently said, in both public statements and leaked internal communication, that they're essentially running a skeleton crew.
They keep saying that they don't have the resources to moderate, manually review posts, have any kind of appeal process, or anything. So, as people have widely received communications about, they seemed to have automated a significant portion of the moderation to operate solely on the quantity of reports (probably with a basic filter, eg quantity of reports regarding a certain post, within a certain timeframe) to automatically ban or shadowban accounts.
And so, they wipe their hands, both to the users, the public, and their own consciousness, and go about their automated operations.
All of this is likely true. Tumblr, at this point, is essentially abandonware internally, a kind of weird vanity project/dumpster ground for server infrastructure for Automattic. Likely, they don't want the bad press of "shutting down" fully. Or maybe the trickle of revenue they get here just barely exceeds operating costs, so why not keep it around?
Whatever is the case, the bans are a result of an automated process working in the background. I'm giving them some benefit of the doubt here, of course, we can't know anything for certain- but it seems like the individual bans are not based on any specific, manual action.
And that doesn't fucking excuse anything.
Because at some point, multiple people sat down at tumblr, and decided how to cut costs.
And they decided that the bare minimum of report abuse prevention was one of the first things on the chopping block.
Before the boops. Before GUI reconfigures.
They decided to cut something that is necessary to manage online communities.
They decided to cut something that ensures any targeted group will have any kind of community online.
And then, after all of that, the only manual intervention is doubling down on the shitty decisions that the automated systems make, and plucking reasons out of their ass for why they were the right decisions all along.
It's pure silicon valley brain. Blame the computer often and always. Use it to shield the active decisions you made when designing the computer that way. Treat it as a fact of life as opposed to something they actively made decisions for.
Is tumblr staff hitting the banhammer on each transfemme one by one? No.
Is tumblr staff deliberately crafting a system that allows TERFs and other conservative bigots to get rid of the "undesirables" for them? Yup. But they sure as hell are trying to not say the quiet part out loud. If they can always point the finger somewhere else, to the advertisers, to the automated systems, to the TERFs, then they can always have juuusssttt enough plausible deniability.
But being the "queerest place on the internet" requires concious acknowledgement that queer people will be targets of harassment, and you will have to protect against that.
Side note, this is why I do try to keep my blog at least somewhat SFW. Its one of the main reasons why I choose not to reblog all of the posts I'm tagged in- if the post is overtly NSFW, I've probably seen it, appreciated it, and consciously decided my level of interaction with it mostly based on how "tumblr friendly" it is. Is that bowing down to them? A little. It's also my choice. I value the community I have here. The pushes that y'all have given me gave me the strength to transition, and honestly gives me a lot of motivation to research HRT biology as much as I can, among many other things.
Yeah, I post pictures that are clearly meant to be found attractive in ways that are generally not socially acceptable , but never actual NSFW. I would like to think that I'm pretty safe from bans, but hey. Who knows. I don't want to lose my follower base, and the community around it.
And yeah, I'm gonna annoyingly remind you of the other places to find me, make sure to check my pin. If you don't know where to go, just find me on reddit and go from there, I'll post about it if anything happens.
#I hope this rant is at least somewhat intelligible#im in lab late night and typing this out as fast as i can in between experiment steps#stay safe out there yall

“You can't just break up with me when you know our wedding is near!” Hearing that makes your blood boil, he’s right, your wedding is near, but don't you think it's too much? Get married with your fiance after knowing he likes your sister and they have an affair going on?
You don't even know how you can return to the time before Se-hyuk & you get married. All you remember before is you're in a coma after big accidents between your car and theirs. And now you're wearing your cancelled-wedding dress, in the boutique store that you remembered has been closed.
“I shouldn't even fuck with you, Yoon Se-hyuk” That's all you say before you ripped the gown, paid for it and then go straight to your car without sparing a glace at him.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
“Han y/n! Se-hyuk is searching for you” You sigh heavily, you already blocked his number & any other social media platform so he can't annoy you anymore, but now he's coming to your house? You wonder how much audacity he has, because he was brave enough to come here after you made him gone in your life.
“Tell him to go home!” You don't want to see his face anymore. Every time you remember it, your heart aches so much that it brings your eyes to tears.
You know you have never been so lucky in your life. Your stepmother opens your bedroom door, telling you to talk with Se-hyuk.
You told him to talk with you outside, and he's holding onto your hand like a lost puppy.
“I told you to fuck off, didn't i? What is wrong with you? I told you don't be near me anymore!” You yell at him, and before he can even answer, his phone rings and when you both look at the contact name, you decide to be the one who answers the call.
It was his mother, “Hello? Se-hyuk, I'm searching for a hanbok right now, and they have a lot of variety. What colour do you think would match me well?” After a few seconds of silence, you answer her.
“Pink and green will suit you the best auntie, and for your information, our wedding is canceled” You can hear his mother's panicked voice, asking what is wrong with your relationship, but you didn't answer her, you hung up the phone and put his phone on shut down.
“Go away, Yoon Se-Hyuk” You said and turned your back to go back to your house.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
“So, you're Han Yu-ra?” The guy in front of you asked and made a smirk raised from your lips.
“No, I'm Han yn. I'm her sister, and I'm the one who’s going to be married to you” The sentence you left out making him arched one of his eyebrows, telling you to explain yourself.
“Here's the deal, we’re going to get married, you go back to Taeja's group, and both of our companies will merge and I get to have my revenge” You said calmly, while looking him dead in the eyes and smiling through your lips.
He asked what's in it for him. Luckily, you've done your research, “you can get your revenge on your brother too, isn't that what you wanted?” You tell him and your expression is cocky.
Both of you closed the deal and started making the rules to live in while still in your marriage life.
You are aware of your surroundings. There is a paparazzi that takes your photos, and Yu-ra is also in that lounge, walking to search for the man in front of you but then surprised by your figure that sat with him.
You had asked your cousin– who also deeply hated Yu-ra, to help you check Seungcheol's background and being the paparazzi at the hotel and will be the one who published the rumor for both of you.
She also knows about you going back in time.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
Seungcheol brought you to his room to discuss the matter of your marriage, and suddenly, a question came to his head.
“Why did you choose me to have revenge on your family? Am I that handsome?” He asked while confidence was plastered on his face as he poured the wine for both of you.
You scoffed, didn't know what to say for a while because of his demeanor, “Because Yu-ra liked you, and also you're not my type, so don't be a big head”
His smirk faltered after hearing your response, and a scowl replaced his confidence.
Both of you are drowning your sorrow with the wine filling up the hollow of your body.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
A Few weeks passed, the rumors started flying in his company too, and now Seungcheol is in a meeting with your ex.
“Do you realize she's just using you?" Se-hyuk says to his boss, his tone dripping with arrogance.
The audacity of his words makes Seungcheol blood pressure spike. After everything he’s done—treating you so cruelly and having an affair with your sister—he still refuses to let you go? What the hell is wrong with him?
“That’s none of your concern, Manager Yoon,” Seungcheol replied sharply. Then, with a calm yet pointed smile, the CEO added, “And for the record, I don’t care if she’s using me. I love her.”
Se-Hyuk glares hard at his boss.
Maybe he still loves you, and doesn't want you to go run your own life, because after all you both have been in a relationship for a decent time, 5 years to be exact and the moment before you ended everything is 3 months before your wedding.
He knew better than to press the issue further. Instead, he turned his attention to the proposal his team had submitted. Yet, no matter how hard he tried to focus, his mind wandered elsewhere.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
"Aww, so you shut him out like that? You really love me, don't you?"
Seungcheol was used to your teasing by now, and he found it oddly satisfying to play along.
"Of course. You're my dear fiancée. How could I not love you with all my heart?" he replied, a smirk adorning his perfect features.
The two of you continued your playful banter late into the night. Eventually, you realized he had caged you beneath him on the sofa in the apartment he had bought for you both to share.
His intense gaze shifted between your eyes and lips before he slowly leaned in, his right hand cradling the side of your face. You responded with your lips brushing against his, a silent invitation.
When your lips met, Seungcheol kissed you like he was afraid of losing you, his touch tender yet passionate. You knew better, though. He loved it when your kisses turned wild— something you'd learned firsthand during your first kiss in a hotel room, a memory you cherished.
Your hands threaded through his black locks, pulling him closer as soft grunts and moans escaped your lips.
After what felt like ten minutes of an intense make-out session, He finally pulled back to give you both a chance to catch your breath.
Without hesitation, he asked, "Bedroom?"
You nodded in response.
Your relationship might not have started romantically, but deep down, something told you this could be the best thing that ever happened in your life.
Meanwhile, you and Seungcheol are having the time of your life, Se-hyuk is trying to get Yu-ra to go home because earlier she called for him, and he can tell that she's drunk.
He's rushing to the bar, throwing Yu-ra on his shoulder to take her to her house (which basically, yours too).
But a plan can't always get in your way, can they? Yu-ra is drunk enough to have Se-hyuk stop the car in the stinky, small motel, so they can do the activity a soon-to-be brother-in-law and soon-to-be sister-in-law shouldn't do.
Even when Yu-ra is kissing him like a mad woman after entering the room, Se-hyuk still thinks about the afternoon event that makes the girl who sat between his legs pissed and starts to attack his sensitive spot on his neck so she can get his attention.
Pretty good to say, both pairs having an intimate time that night.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
Here's the difference, Choi Seungcheol woke up from the best sleep he ever had with a smile on his face when he noticed you're still in his arms.
On the other hand, Yoon Se-hyuk was scared shitless when he saw Yu-ra's and his naked body and the motel room they booked for the night. He quickly gathered his clothing and put it on so he could leave the room fast.
Now, he can't even blame you for the canceled wedding anymore. He knew he was an asshole back then, but now he feels like he's a total dickhead because last night he fucked your sister, despite knowing that there's a cold war going on between both of you.
He’s still trying to win you back, with a constant push from his mother and sister, who many have labeled a gold digger.
Yes, he marries you for your money, that doesn't mean he doesn't love you, does it? Well, he admits, at first glance, that he has already fallen in love with you, the way you sit and talk elegantly about your interest, and that you are also searching for a husband.
Then, there comes Yu-ra who is always trying to steal his attention away from you to her, and that she always wears a slightly more provocative outfit when he's at your house, telling him that she already feels comfortable with him.
That leads to another. They started seeing each other more often without you knowing, and they started developing feelings for the other individuals, making it so complicated.
He doesn't know how you can find out about his affair with Yu-ra because both him and your sister are sure that they're playing clean, at least that's what they thought.
Unfortunately, you saw them minutes after the hard car crash. That puts you in a fatal condition where you can even speak or move your body. You can only move your eyes.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
After you woke up, your fiancé decided that it's time to have a shower, and he insisted that you both have to do it together.
It’s nothing dirty. He just takes care of you after the little act last night and having a light conversation with you, and what surprises you is that there's no awkwardness lingering between both of you.
The CEO said his schedule today is packed, so he’s going to come home late, so you told him you will be joining a cooking class that his mother attends.
You know Seungcheol's mother isn't quite fond of you, so you want to change her mind and want to start a good relationship with her.
It's 10 a.m. and the house is already empty, leaving the cool air behind.
“So, do you have any reason why you want to join this class?” Jamie– the owner of the class, ask you. So you answered, “yes, i want to sometimes cook with my fiancé, and my soon-to-be mother-in-law is joining this class, so i want to start a good relationship with her”
Jamie nodded with a satisfied smile, and then she talked to you about the rules on this class and other information you should know.
The odd thing is, Jamie looks a lot like your mother. They even had the same scar that looks like they have the same cause– a cat.
After she explains everything, Jamie brings you to her class and starts introducing you.
Seungcheol's mother looked surprised by your present, and then she shifted her eyes to her table again.
You greet her, and you're lucky because the table you got is side by side with her.
“Why do you join this class?” She asks, tone sharp, and she doesn't even know why it can come at such a tone when she didn't mean it.
“I heard from Seungcheol that you joined the cooking class here, auntie, so i said to him i'll give it a try to bond a good relationship with you” you answered calmly.
She gives you one last glare before deciding that it would be best for her to just ignore you.
When the class is finished, she told you to meet her at the café nearby, wanting to have a talk with you about your relationship with her son.
“I’m just going to ask you the point here” she says, making you gulp hard on her glare.
“Do you even love my Seungcheol? how can I trust you when I know your relationship with your ex has failed because you canceled the wedding!?”
You won't lie, that words cut deep into your heart, your body is shaking and your eyes are glossy, you want to get out of there soon, but before you can even open your mouth, she strikes again.
“Look, you can't even answer that question. How can I give Seungcheol to you when you can't answer the basic question I ask?”
Another voice joins in, a male voice that you and her are familiar with, because that's your fiancé's voice.
“That is not your business mom, the only thing that matters is I love her and she’s willing to try a relationship with me, isn't it enough?” He angrily said to his mom, and he gently grabbed your hand and pulled you up from your seat, then you both walked away.
You are still sparing glances towards your back to see Mrs. Choi's reaction, but she just looks at both of you in horror.
Seungcheol doesn't even spare her a glance anymore, he just goes straight to the parking lot while still holding your hand to guide you.
“You okay? She doesn't do anything to you, does she?” His voice etched with worry that was evident on his face.
“It's okay, Cheol. She didn't do anything to me”
After you calmed him down, both of you entered his car, you questioned your car but he said a driver will pick your Mercedes up a few minutes ahead.
The strings of ‘sorry’ seem to never stop falling from his lips, and you can only tell him that everything's fine and he doesn't need to apologize.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
“Ya, Han Yu-ra, what’s your sister like? She's marrying my brother, so I need to know her” of course Yu-ra and Se-hee— Se-hyuk's sister, knows who that voice belongs to.
Choi Seungchae, Seungcheol's sister and a well-known celebrity slash influencer in south korea.
“She's selfish, and always talks bad about people even if she is close with them, you know she was also adopted by my father, right?” Yu-ra said with a smirk on her face, that Seungchae wants to scratch her face with her perfectly fresh-made manicure.
Se-hee nodded her head upon hearing Yu-ra's words, she also added, “And you know? she’s the one who cancelled the wedding between her and my brother!”
“Also, I followed you on sns, can you follow me back? it'd be an honor to me!”
“I'm sure she has her reasons to end things with your brother,” Seungchae pauses before continuing her words, “and doesn't your description sound like you throw your sister under the bus Yu-ra? No? I feel like that is much more to your description, not hers”
She then walked away out of that store with her friends while they were laughing about Se-hee who bluntly asked her to follow back her SNS so she can brag to her other friends.
Yu-ra twitches her eyes, she can't even make Seungchae like her? What does she lack? She's perfect and she's going to tell her mom so she can ruin both family dinners.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
When Mrs. Choi goes to Seungcheol house, she didn't expect to see his son and you both sleeping together.
it's nothing serious, she would say. because Seungcheol's sleeping on the couch while his hands are holding onto yours who's sleeping on the floor with the position that could probably make your neck uncomfortable.
Startled by the sound of the door being unlocked, you shot your eyes open and found it weird that Mrs. Choi is here, she doesn't usually come in without any notice before.
You want to greet her first, but she quickly shuts you down and then grabs your hand to take you outside.
You want to protest, but before any words come out of your mouth, Mrs. Choi brings you to her embrace and starts hugging you tightly which makes you worried, what's wrong?
“Are there any problems, auntie? I’m sorry, I didn't mean to sleep here, I dozed off without knowing last night” You babbled to her, waiting for any impact that might have gone to your face.
Instead, she pulled away from the hug and started speaking, “I never seen him sleeping peacefully since he's graduated his elementary school because of his trauma, thank you for making him sleep like this again”
You don't even know what to say when she hugs you again, this time a little bit shorter, and she says, “You have my permission to marry him, the only thing you have to achieve is that i want you to join Taeja's group again”
And there's where your real revenge starts, with the help of your fiancé's family, of course.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
Both your family agreed to have dinner together on Sunday night in Taeja’s group restaurant that they had reserved, only for the family.
Mrs. Choi doesn't look so fond of your stepmother, she knew about the backstory of your poor life because of her.
Meanwhile your father— Han Jiwoong, greets the other families with a genuine smile, your stepmother uses her sly smile, making everybody in Taeja's family start to scoff at her, even Grandma Taeja.
After half an hour greeting each other, here comes the main topic of why Taeja’s family and yours are having dinner tonight, it's to discuss your marriage.
“Our company will begin merging after they both get married, you don't mind that, right?” Grandma Taeja asks your family, especially your stepmother because her eyes are pointed to her.
She answered her with that mischievous smile of her, “we'll gladly accept that, grandma”
“But our daughter is not perfect, so we aren't really sure if she can be married with your grandson” she continues, and that makes your heart burn with anger.
“As you know, she works as a painter that only sell 2 or maybe 3 pieces total in her life, she can't cook on her own, and also adopted” The words that she threw at you make your heart pounds a thousand times than your average, all of that makes you nervous, but Seungcheol hold your hand to tell you he's here and everything is gonna be fine.
Seungchae seems to be confused by the tension from your family, she whispers to her husband, “what is this? Why are they trying to make their daughter look bad?”
While her husband only shook his head that means he doesn't know.
“I don’t care about the pieces she sell, my family is rich, we surely can make her life comfortable without her lifting up her fingers” Mrs. Choi said as she also knows about Han Jiwoong's wife's plan to drag you down.
Seungcheol chimes in, joining the conversation, “I'm the best cook in my family, you don't need to worry about both of us not eating, I can make her breakfast, lunch, and dinner, we can also go out sometimes” His answer is sharp, undeniable.
“We also don't care about her being adopted, there's nothing to worry about, and we have 90% control of the media in South Korea, so we can shut them down if we want to” He added to ensure that anyone from your family can talk bad about you anymore.
Few hours passed, and the dinner was already finished minutes ago. You and Seungcheol are both satisfied by the dinner and also his family answers to yours.
“It's okay, they're good people” Your fiancé said to ease up your worries that were written on your forehead.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
Summer is soon turning into autumn, and your relationship label is turning into husband and wife after being engaged for 3 months.
Today is the sacred day for you and Seungcheol, both of you will say the vows and a contract hidden beneath that.
Your father walks you down the aisle, a beautiful white gown draped around you, fitted bodice that accentuates the waist and a voluminous skirt that flows out dramatically made of satin.
You choose a sweetheart and off-shoulder neckline to anctuates your collarbone, and a natural looking makeup so it doesn't overwhelm you.
The veil made out of tulle, makes your face look beautiful in the altar lighting.
The procession goes really well, and you soon know that's because your step sister hasn't arrived yet.
after the guest and family member announce their speech— including Seungchae and her husband crying while reading theirs and it makes your heart warm at the sight, and Seungcheol's brother's cold speech that looks like it's just for formality.
When the photo session though, everything starts to irritate you a little, because not only your stepsister have arrived, she also wears a white dress, hoping to outshine the bride— yes, you.
She even goes live on social media, “Guys, look at my stepsister, she really looks beautiful isn't she?” while holding your hand, which you let go.
“I'm sorry, Yu-ra. I'd love to hold hands with my husband only” with a smile on your lips, filled with dread for her to take a hint.
“I love you, my wife” Seungcheol said, and you answered the same.
Both of you lean towards each other, letting the photographer take your sweet photo while kissing so happily and a grumpy Yu-ra beside you.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
“Okay, so now what?” You ask your now husband, after the wedding ends.
“Why are you still asking? We’re going to have a Honeymoon, and we're taking the first flight to Jeju tomorrow” He said, making you feel ridiculous talking to him.
So you hit him, hard on his shoulder, “You said you're scared of the beach and ocean because of your childhood, we don't have to if you don't want it, we can go anywhere” You answered him and remembering his fear of the ocean that he told you a few while back.
“If you can face your fear, and eat my food without me having to do it first, so can I do it too, you're telling me we are in this together, right?” He looks at you like you're the one putting stars one by one in the sky.
And without a doubt, Jeju is where you both go.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
“It's not that bad” Seungcheol says after you both reach your bedroom, and clean yourselves.
You gave him a smile, “right? it's calming” as you climbed to the bed, your brain turning his gears to think about the sleeping position tonight.
“Here's a pillow, you go sleep down there” Your words make Seungcheol furrow his eyebrows and eyes wide, “No! We can go sleep in the same bed”
The way he said it so casually makes your eyes also widen, you both definitely can't sleep on the same bed.
“I promise i'm going to hold your hands while we sleep–” before Seungcheol can even finish his sentence, you already throw the pillow to him.
“No!” You yell at him to make his eyes go even wider, which makes you smile sheepishly at him, while muttering soft ‘sorry’.
“You have a dirty mind, we wouldn't even do anything” and finally, you tell him, “okay, you sleep here”
And just before he can express his happiness, you added, “i'll sleep there" while grabbing your pillow and starting to get up from bed.
Well, of course Choi Seungcheol has to be a big headed person he is, so he caged you on the soft bed, making it impossible for you to move.
A week before your wedding, Seungcheol confessed that he has feelings for you, maybe that's why you don't want to sleep together.
“You don't believe my words, do you?” he asked, and the way you stay silent with your eyes wandering anywhere but him makes Seungcheol even more sure about his question.
His eyes dart from your eyes to your lips and back to your eyes again, only to find you already doing the same.
Slowly but surely, he leans in, both you breath hot while your lips brushing the slightest.
it feels like you're so close but so far to his liking, so he grabbed the back of your head to push your lips to clash with his.
The kiss soon got heated with both of your tongues joining in, your lungs burning at the sensation begging to tell you to pull away from him but your brain keeps ignoring it.
Fortunately, after a few seconds Seungcheol pulls away, making you chase his lips that are stained with your lipstick, meanwhile yours was plump and glossy.
Your hands paw weakly on his shirt after gripping it like your life depends on it, silently asking him to put it away, and with that look in your eyes, how can he refuse?
Seungcheol wasted no time to take his shirt off, leaving him only in his black trouser.
You're now technically gawking at him, but how could you not? His bicep is big and you can even see the veins become more prominent. Looks like he's god's favorite, and that's why he has that body of a god.
Seungcheol goes to the bed again, only to find you still staring at him. Looks ready for him to cherish, and to ravish.
He kisses your lips again, but this time it's rougher than the last one, soon the kiss starts going to your neck and the sweet spot behind your right ear.
his hot breath fanning over your skin, makes you shudder. His next move lets you out a whimper, but how can you not? He cups your pussy through your short silk nightwear.
“Cheol” you moan, holding his bicep while looking at his other hand that goes under your top, fondling with your right breast.
Seungcheol can feel himself getting worked out. The trouser he had picked earlier today feels a little strained to his liking. He can't hide his growing bulge anymore.
He starts undressing you, taking his time while kissing the new spot he sees, while you can only whimper and moan out because you can't think of anything other than him.
“You're wet, baby” it's true, you've been wet since the moment your kiss got heated, and everytime you think of his demeanor, you caught yourself in a sinful scene.
You grab his black lock when he decides to dive in without giving you any warning, the sudden act makes you scream out loud, you don't really care who's gonna hear you, the hotel receptionist told you the suite was soundproof.
Your husband can tell you are close, so he pulls away from your cunt and you can see his chin and mouth glistening deliciously with your essence.
Without any words, he gets up to take off his trousers and boxer. His cock is massive with veins noticeable to your eyes, even though you two had sex before this, but you still amaze at his size.
You whine at him but he quickly shuts you up with a deep kiss to your lips and slowly he starts pushing himself inside of you, not wanting to hurt you.
His thrust started slow, but when he's sure you adjusted his size, he becomes rougher with you, grunts heavily heard here and there from him.
“Open” His words leave no room to argue, when you do open your mouth, he inserts his middle and index finger.
He smirks before opening his mouth again, “Suck my fingers, sweetheart” He left you speechless— not that you could answer him or something, you begin to suck eagerly, wanting to be a good girl for him.
After only a few thrusts, you can feel your stomach tightening a sign to warn that you're going to cum, and Seungcheol was aware of this so he fastened his pace, also reaching for his own high.
The way you clench around him makes your husband's head feel dizzy, and the time you cumming it also triggers him to come hard inside you, filling you to the brim.
He didn't immediately go off of you, he rested himself for a minute and when he did get off you, he carried you to the bathroom to clean yourselves out.
“I love you, baby” He said while carrying you, never in a million years he's thinking of saying that to someone. “And I hope you love me too” Seungcheol added.
The sweet moment makes your heart start warming, and you just hope that there's no other torture you'll get in this life.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
Of course, your torture doesn't stop there.
Yu-ra is still snooping on your marriage life, and Se-hyuk is still being your pain in the ass.
One day, though, he's going inside your house and finds a file of treasure, the truth inside your wedding.
He quickly tells Yu-ra about it, and they both make their cunning plan with the help of your stepmother.
Meanwhile, you found out that you are your father's real daughter after taking a DNA test. The result makes your heart clench, so he abandoned you and decided to adopt you again?
And Yu-ra is not even his real daughter, all the torment you had in all your life just to know you're the real one?
“You're home late tonight, it's unusual of you, why?” Your husband asks why slowly walking to you while crossing his hand, and before he can say anything, you just go to wrap yourself on his body, wanting nothing but to be held by him.
The seconds he had you in his embrace, tears started falling from your eyes, your expression pained seungcheol to the deepest of his heart, willing to do anything to stop them.
A few minutes pass and you finally tell him what's going on and why are you home late at night crying your heart out.
The moment he hears the reason, he instantly soothes you down with his hand, silently telling you that it's okay to cry and you will resolve this problem together.
Since the honeymoon, you two got closer and eventually you started to like him too, your routine becomes more and more like a husband and a wife should be.
you sleep on the same bed, cooking or baking together, and even have breakfast, lunch, and dinner together.
Seungcheol's family also notices this, even Seungchae always teases both of you for it. His grandma also becomes more welcome to you, and being the kind person she always have, sometimes she invited you to Choi's manor to have brunch together with her and Mrs. Choi.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
Seungcheol and you entered his family's manor at the same time, his mother told both of you to come here everyday, but since you’re busy you often call off her invitation.
But today is an exception because you and your husband don't have any schedule.
Mrs. Choi is already waiting for you at the sofa right before the entrance, she gets up to greet you.
Seungcheol is already having his hands in the air beside him, waiting to be hugged by his mother while closing his eyes.
After a few moments, he can't feel anything that close to his body, so he opens his eyes and can't believe what he is seeing.
His mom hugged you before him, when he saw this, he whined “mom! I'm your son, why is she getting the hug first!?” He said while slightly pouting and looking at you with a playful glare which you responded with you sticking out your tongue at his direction, mocking him.
“She’s my daughter! Of course i would hug her first, beside you don't come here as often as her and i'm angry for that” She defends herself after letting you go from her embrace.
The lunch was filled with a lot of laughter echoing in the table and the talk about everything you could ever imagine with cranky Seungcheol at his mother's house.
It's not a problem to have your husband sulky, because you know how to make him normal again, so you hold your chopsticks that you use to pick the galbi to his mouth, muttering ‘aaa’ to him.
Seungcheol looked at you weirdly and not wanting to take a bite but gave in when you kicked his shin beneath the table.
When your stomach is filled to the top, you three go sit in the living room and hold a conversation about your businesses.
The talk soon died down when an uninvited guests came barging without everyone knowing they would be here, it's your stepmother, Yu-ra and Se-hyuk that you think so pathetic because of how on's on his knees for you last week on a police station but now he's on their side.
“Oh, good. You’re here, mom” The words coming out of Yu-ra's mouth make Seungcheol’s mother want to gag. She doesn't have any right to call her that.
She was searching for a document in her purse, and when she found it, she shoved the paper to your face. She smirked before opening her mouth again, “your son and my sister are having a marriage that is based on a contract. She wants to use your beloved son for her own goods”
Mrs. Choi unfazed as she took the paper slowly, training her eyes into it before forcing her eyes to Yu-ra's again, she chuckles.
“First of all; don't call me like that, I don't want you to call me ‘mom’ because you don't have the right, second of all; do you not know literally anything beside this? I also participate in this contract. You should read it first before barging into my house like that” She gets up from her seat, and starts going to your stepmother.
“Teach your daughter some manners, how come she has a mother but doesn't have any manners or shame walking like that at someone's house? She must be getting it from her mother” You can basically see there's a lot of smoke coming out of her head, being the embarrassing attention to her because of her daughter.
Your mother-in-law also goes to your ex, “What kind of man are you? Why are you still interfering with your ex who has already married life? You’re the one who found out about the contract, are you? I checked the CCTV when I went there, and you know it can get you to prison, right?”
Her words leave three of them speechless, and before she turns around, Se-hyuk is already on his knees.
The sight makes you roll your eyes in annoyance, and the thing that makes you want to throw up is the fact that he started apologizing hundreds of times.
But she just stood there quietly, that's when you noticed the front bodyguard already at home, dragging all of them out of the house.
And after a few moments, the lady asks you if you're okay and when you said you're fine she turns to her son to give him a long well needed advice.
It's already sunset when you both decide to go home, and Seungcheol holds your hand throughout the ride, an act to comfort you.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
It's been weeks since your last encounter with Yu-ra, it happened just 2 days after the incident in the Choi's manor, she slapped you real hard before chucking her glass of water at you.
“You're a fake daughter of my dad, so let go all you have because you don't deserve it and you never will! you take everything that's mine!” She said with anger, the fiery glares she threw at you filled both of her eyes.
The way she started mocking you and even bringing up your biological mom hit your nerves, so you slapped her back, twice and smirked at her “Who said I'm the fake one? call father if he's aware of it”
When Yu-ra got home, she got into a big fight with her father or stepfather, she's not his biological daughter but you are, and then her mom did nothing as she was just as speechless as her.
turns out you already sent him the file before Yu-ra's incident, oh and how he is mad is unbelievable because he also found out that his wife now already knew about it and didn't say anything.
He yells at her, and this is the one time everybody saw him losing his control, slamming the door right behind him, leaving the house hollow and cold because he takes the warmth from there.
While your family is having their problems, you're digging for Jamie– your cooking class mentor, if you'd remember, She “accidentally” tells all the students that she has a daughter but gets separated after an incident in her house.
And with that you're pretty sure she's your mother.
Her gestures, the way she talks and even the scars feel close to your mother, and she always gives you the warmth you had lost since your past incident.
After a few days of searching, the result of the DNA test you took with Jamie came in your mail.
Tears start brimming on the edge of your eyes, the test result is that you're 99,9999% share the same DNA with her.
Seungcheol is there too, watching all the scenes with both of his eyes, and when you start getting weak after reading the paper, he saves you from falling to the ground.
There's one question in your head: Why should she leave you alone with your hell of a father?
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
The time you confronted Jamie about your test result, she invited you to her house to talk about this more privately.
When you go inside her house, she immediately hugs you tight on her arms as if she is scared to let you go again.
She tells you about the incident details, that she was locked in her bedroom when the fire started, she's calling anybody for help, but the only one she can hear is your stepmother's voice that told her to stay put in her position and that she will have to die.
Your dad and you were getting groceries together and she can come because she has to finish her painting before tomorrow comes.
She got a second degree burn on her right hand but got out just right before the house exploded because of the gas.
And the left side of her hand has the exact same cat scratch you saw the first day.
She said that she moved to the states after that incident and after knowing you're in the hand of your father because she needs a treatment that only america has, not knowing that your father left you a month after she left to the states while you're at a foster home.
No words exchanged after that, just a comfort silence filled the room while you both cuddled up on her sofa, watching your favorite movie of all time— according to your 7 year old self and your mother who remembers it.
You already told Seungcheol about this, and he said that it's okay and you need to have a quality time after a long time not meeting your mother.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
A month after you met your mother, she decided to move into the house beside yours and Seungcheol, wanting to be closer to you.
Your father finally comes to his senses and always shows up at your mother's front door while holding a bouquet of Daffodil and some peonies.
Yu-ra and her mother got their karma.
Your stepmother's crime was finally discovered by the media and police, she's doing fraud and selling fake pieces of art.
The one who reported her? Your family secretary— Kim Jae Won, and how does he know it? Because most of the art that your stepmother sells is his father's painting, and he always knows his father's signature and the pen he uses, he is not going to be fooled by her.
Oh, and Yu-ra? She gets pregnant and wont even come out of her hotel room because the baby is already 7 months old— you heard from the Taeja's group hotel receptionist while you want to visit your husband.
She eventually got kicked out because Seungcheol's brother doesn't pay for the room anymore— yes, Han Yu-ra fucked with Seungcheol's big brother.
That's why she comes again to the Choi's manor, wanting to tell them that it's their son's baby.
Wrong choice.
The only one who was at home that time was Mrs. Choi and Grandma Taeja, they're having a girls talk while smiling to each other when the others talk or even laughing.
That's it until Yu-ra comes with her big belly and also a big suitcase.
She confidently tells both of them that she is currently pregnant by the seed of their oldest son.
“Well, they have a machine that can test the DNA of your baby while it's still in your stomach, they have it in Germany, want to try them?” Grandma Taeja says, without any words and panics evident in her eyes, Yu-ra gets out of that house and goes to her other victim's house.
Mrs. Choi and grandma Taeja then laugh at her antics, how can she be that confident without thinking of other things ahead of her?
“Oh! Han Yu-ra you're pregnant? Who's the father?” Se-hee technically freaks out when she sees Yu-ra standing in front of her porch while dragging a big ass suitcase.
Without any care of the world, Yu-ra blurts out “Your brother” that makes Se-hee's brain start to stop functioning at the very second.
She says that loud enough to be heard by Se-hee's mother and Se-hyuk himself with a woman she doesn't want to know anything about (probably his soon-to-be wife) hears it.
Well, upon hearing that of course Mrs. Yoon doesn't want her son's possible marriage to be ruined by some girl, so she gets up from her seat and walks to her while telling her to go away.
but when she gets closer to Yu-ra, she just shoves her away and goes straight to Se-hyuk who's still sitting at the dinner table.
He stood up nervously, and then the bomb finally said out loud, more clearly, “he's your suitor? don't accept him,” then Yu-ra's eyes made eye contact with Se-hyuk's “I'm pregnant, and he's the father”
The girl storms out furiously while grabbing her purse, straight to the open door of the apartment.
Meanwhile Yu-ra dragging Se-hyuk to his room, she chuckles slyly, before asking him, “how can this baby live in this small house?”
Se-hyuk takes both of her hands and looks up to her, “Why don't we live in your house? It's good for the baby to live there”
Hearing that Yu-ra's blood started to boil again, she slapped his right cheek, leaving him with a bright red cheek.
“Why can't you take the hint? if i'm still living there i would not even step foot on this small freaking apartment! my father disown me and then he proceeds to fucking throw me out!” She yells at him.
Well that’s the ending of hee story, you would say pretty tragic, right?
Meanwhile, she's suffering.
You actually have a good life, and now you sat on the dinner table with Soojin— the same cousin who took the pictures of you and Seungcheol the first time and Seungchae who is now helping your mom in the kitchen with her cooking.
Soojin and Seungchae have a competition, which of their food that you'll love, and basically the winner gets free chicken and beer for a month.
But after they finish cooking and you start to pick up the food with your chopstick, you suddenly feel a lump going up your throat, and now you feel like you want to throw up.
So you ran to the bathroom, there you threw all your guts out without any hesitation.
When you got out of the bathroom, you found three of them looking at each other in silence, “what?” You break the silent atmosphere because they all suddenly turn their heads at you.
Soojin spoke first, beating Seungchae that just opened her mouth, “when is the last time you had your period?”
Then everything starts to kick in. Your period is late by 3 weeks now, and you always have that morning sickness.
“I'll grab you a test” Your mother said hurriedly, after a moment.
When she took it out of her bag— which you don't know why it's there, you went to the bathroom again, for checking.
The result came out positive, so when you tell it to everyone, they start hugging you like crazy, and your mom brings you to the dining room, insisting that you have to eat more.
[⋆✴︎˚。⋆]
“So, any news today?” Seungcheol just got off work and he's asking you while hanging his coat.
You fiddle with your fingers, confused how to tell the big news to him, so you just said, “I'm having a morning sickness and my period is still not coming today”
Without any warning, Seungcheol holds your waist and behind your knees, and now he's carrying you with bridal style.
“Maybe you need some refreshment?” You see what he's doing now, so you just blurt out, “I think I might be pregnant!” while closing your eyes, probably expecting him to drop you immediately.
Instead, he puts you down slowly then just stares at you very lovingly with his eyes brimming with tears.
He opened his mouth like he would say something, but nothing came out, just a big gummy smile from him.
And then he starts getting closer, his hot breath fanning at your skin and your lips just a few centimeters away while holding eye contact with you.
That soon breaks by him and he starts kissing you slowly, passionately, while thanking you and praising you between the kisses.
Revenge is complete, and now you have a loving husband besides you while carrying his and your love.

"Since it was first identified in 1983, HIV has infected more than 85 million people and caused some 40 million deaths worldwide.
While medication known as pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, can significantly reduce the risk of getting HIV, it has to be taken every day to be effective. A vaccine to provide lasting protection has eluded researchers for decades. Now, there may finally be a viable strategy for making one.
An experimental vaccine developed at Duke University triggered an elusive type of broadly neutralizing antibody in a small group of people enrolled in a 2019 clinical trial. The findings were published today [May 17, 2024] in the scientific journal Cell.
“This is one of the most pivotal studies in the HIV vaccine field to date,” says Glenda Gray, an HIV expert and the president and CEO of the South African Medical Research Council, who was not involved in the study.
A few years ago, a team from Scripps Research and the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) showed that it was possible to stimulate the precursor cells needed to make these rare antibodies in people. The Duke study goes a step further to generate these antibodies, albeit at low levels.
“This is a scientific feat and gives the field great hope that one can construct an HIV vaccine regimen that directs the immune response along a path that is required for protection,” Gray says.

Vaccines work by training the immune system to recognize a virus or other pathogen. They introduce something that looks like the virus—a piece of it, for example, or a weakened version of it—and by doing so, spur the body’s B cells into producing protective antibodies against it. Those antibodies stick around so that when a person later encounters the real virus, the immune system remembers and is poised to attack.
While researchers were able to produce Covid-19 vaccines in a matter of months, creating a vaccine against HIV has proven much more challenging. The problem is the unique nature of the virus. HIV mutates rapidly, meaning it can quickly outmaneuver immune defenses. It also integrates into the human genome within a few days of exposure, hiding out from the immune system.
“Parts of the virus look like our own cells, and we don’t like to make antibodies against our own selves,” says Barton Haynes, director of the Duke Human Vaccine Institute and one of the authors on the paper.
The particular antibodies that researchers are interested in are known as broadly neutralizing antibodies, which can recognize and block different versions of the virus. Because of HIV’s shape-shifting nature, there are two main types of HIV and each has several strains. An effective vaccine will need to target many of them.
Some HIV-infected individuals generate broadly neutralizing antibodies, although it often takes years of living with HIV to do so, Haynes says. Even then, people don’t make enough of them to fight off the virus. These special antibodies are made by unusual B cells that are loaded with mutations they’ve acquired over time in reaction to the virus changing inside the body. “These are weird antibodies,” Haynes says. “The body doesn’t make them easily.”
Haynes and his colleagues aimed to speed up that process in healthy, HIV-negative people. Their vaccine uses synthetic molecules that mimic a part of HIV’s outer coat, or envelope, called the membrane proximal external region. This area remains stable even as the virus mutates. Antibodies against this region can block many circulating strains of HIV.
The trial enrolled 20 healthy participants who were HIV-negative. Of those, 15 people received two of four planned doses of the investigational vaccine, and five received three doses. The trial was halted when one participant experienced an allergic reaction that was not life-threatening. The team found that the reaction was likely due to an additive in the vaccine, which they plan to remove in future testing.
Still, they found that two doses of the vaccine were enough to induce low levels of broadly neutralizing antibodies within a few weeks. Notably, B cells seemed to remain in a state of development to allow them to continue acquiring mutations, so they could evolve along with the virus. Researchers tested the antibodies on HIV samples in the lab and found that they were able to neutralize between 15 and 35 percent of them.
Jeffrey Laurence, a scientific consultant at the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) and a professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, says the findings represent a step forward, but that challenges remain. “It outlines a path for vaccine development, but there’s a lot of work that needs to be done,” he says.
For one, he says, a vaccine would need to generate antibody levels that are significantly higher and able to neutralize with greater efficacy. He also says a one-dose vaccine would be ideal. “If you’re ever going to have a vaccine that’s helpful to the world, you’re going to need one dose,” he says.
Targeting more regions of the virus envelope could produce a more robust response. Haynes says the next step is designing a vaccine with at least three components, all aimed at distinct regions of the virus. The goal is to guide the B cells to become much stronger neutralizers, Haynes says. “We’re going to move forward and build on what we have learned.”

can you do a Joaquin x y/n
Title: Beneath the Falcon’s MaskIn high school, you and Joaquin couldn’t stand each other—constantly bickering and battling for the top spot—until years later, after a near-death moment with a masked hero called the Falcon, you heard your childhood nickname slip from his lips, and as your trembling hands removed his headgear, your world stopped the moment you saw Joaquin's face underneath—older, scarred, and still somehow looking at you like you were everything he ever fought for.
Helloo, i hope you like it ~ ♡
Callsigns and Confessions .。*・゚゚
Summary: In high school, you and Joaquin Torres couldn’t stand each other—constantly bickering and battling for the top spot—until years later, after a near-death moment with a masked hero called the Falcon, you heard your childhood nickname slip from his lips.
joaquin torres x f!reader
You and Joaquin Torres had been enemies since sophomore year.
Not the cartoon villain kind of enemies, but the real kind. The kind who always ended up paired together for school projects and spent the whole time arguing over formatting. The kind who tied for valedictorian GPA in senior year and refused to back down, both of you staying up to absurd hours just to one-up the other’s test score. The kind who refused to admit that, beneath all the snark and side-eyes, something a lot more dangerous had always been simmering.
So, when graduation rolled around, and life split your paths—he into the Air Force, and you into disaster relief and research—you thought that would be the end of it. No more biting comments. No more eye rolls. Just silence.
Until years later, a mission gone sideways changed everything.
You were stationed on-site in a border town doing emergency coordination after a chemical attack—monitoring evac routes, assessing incoming threats—when a rogue paramilitary group ambushed the convoy you were assigned to. The chaos was instant. Gunfire. Screams. Dust in the air. You barely got your mask on in time.
You had cover, but the firefight was closing in. Your radio was down. You were boxed in.
And then… wings.
You didn’t even know what was happening at first. A blur of dark metal slicing through smoke, and suddenly you were on the ground, blinking up at a figure with sleek flight gear and piercing eyes behind a visor.
The Falcon.
You’d heard of him—rumors, headlines, a new symbol rising after Sam Wilson stepped up as Captain America—but seeing him up close was something else.
He fought with purpose. Precision. Rage.
But when he landed hard beside you, wings flaring to block incoming fire, and scooped you behind a piece of wreckage, that’s when it hit you.
Not the blast. Not the dust.
The voice.
“Querida, are you hurt?”
Your breath caught. That voice. The cadence. The way he said your old nickname. A name no one had called you in years.
Except for—
“Joaquin?” you rasped, heart pounding so loudly it drowned out the next explosion. “That—was that you?”
Then, slowly—like he was afraid of your reaction—he pulled off his helmet.
And everything inside you stopped.
There he was.
Older. Tired. Scarred, both literal and otherwise. But still unmistakably him. Joaquin Torres. Your high school nemesis. The thorn in your side. The fire in your lungs.
And he was looking at you like you were his entire world.
“You’re okay,” he breathed, cupping the back of your head gently as if making sure. “I didn’t know it was you until I saw your file come through.”
“You still remember my file?” you whispered, half-numb from the shock.
He gave a breathless laugh. “I remembered everything.”
You didn’t talk much as the Falcon carried you out of the chaos, wings wide and protective. Your arm was bleeding, your vision blurred, but your mind was stuck on one thing:
Joaquin had saved you.
Joaquin.
The same boy who used to mock your annotated footnotes. Who challenged you to SAT vocabulary duels. Who once stole your favorite pen just to make you chase him for it.
And now?
He’d flown through hell to get to you.
After the medics cleared you, after the debriefing, after the adrenaline wore off, you found him alone by the edge of the camp, looking up at the stars like they had the answers.
“You remembered my nickname,” you said quietly.
He turned, his expression soft. “Of course I did.”
You stepped closer. “I thought you hated me.”
“I never hated you.” He said it like it hurt. “I think... maybe I just didn’t know how to handle you. You were always... more. And you drove me insane. Still do.”
You blinked. “That supposed to be a compliment?”
He chuckled and looked down, then back up—eyes serious now. “It is.”
Silence stretched between you like it always used to—taut and electric.
“You scared me today,” he said finally. “Seeing you down like that—bleeding, dazed—I thought I was too late.”
“You weren’t,” you whispered.
Joaquin stepped forward, barely an inch between you. “Let me be there now. For real this time.”
You didn’t answer with words.
You just closed the distance and kissed him—soft and slow and grounding.
Later, as the stars hung low and the desert cooled, as his arms wrapped around you under a shared blanket in the barracks tent—he whispered into your hair:
“I used to picture this, you know. Back in school.”
You smiled sleepily. “What, saving me from terrorists?”
“No.” He laughed against your neck. “Just… being near you. Without all the fighting. Without needing a reason to stay close.”
You shifted to face him, nose brushing his. “Guess you finally got your top spot, Torres.”
He smirked. “Nah. Still chasing you.”

Hi Mindy! I’m a college student and I’m struggling to go to bed at a decent hour (think 3 am bedtimes every day) because of the amount of homework I have. Do you have any tips for time management so I can figure out how to get my homework done all during the day so I’m not losing sleep? (Any app recommendations or suggestions on how to schedule my day would be greatly appreciated). Thank you so much! I love your blog and I love seeing your posts🩷
how to get your life together & actually sleep: time management tips for college✨

hi love! 💌 first off, thank you so much for your sweet words. they genuinely made me smile. i’m so proud of you for wanting to improve your time management and prioritize your sleep (honestly, sleep is like the ultimate self-care, and you deserve it). i know college can feel like a whirlwind of assignments, deadlines, and just… life. staying up until 3 am is no joke, and it’s amazing that you’re ready to make a change. let’s make your routine feel a little more manageable and a lot more magical.
☁️ romanticize your productivity: first thing’s first: mindset. instead of viewing homework as this scary, endless task that eats up your nights, try to romanticize it. create a cozy study ritual. light a candle, make a cute study playlist (ex: lo-fi mixed with soft acoustics), and set up your space in a way that makes you actually want to sit down and work. i know it sounds silly, but giving your study sessions a soft, aesthetic vibe can make them feel less like a chore and more like a peaceful little routine. i have a lot of posts talking about this
🌙 break down your workload: sometimes it’s not about how much work you have but how it’s organized. take a few minutes in the morning or the night before to make a list of what you actually need to accomplish. break it down into small, bite-sized tasks. for example, instead of “study for chem exam,” write down “review chapter 4 notes,” “do practice problems,” and “make flashcards for key concepts.” checking off small tasks feels way more rewarding than staring at a big, vague to-do.
💡 create a time-blocking ritual: i’m obsessed with time-blocking because it feels like giving each task its own little home. instead of doing everything all at once (which is just chaos), dedicate specific chunks of time to each task. for instance:
🌼 9-10 am: review lecture notes
✨ 10-11:30 am: work on that essay (no distractions)
🍓 11:30-12: take a break, stretch, grab a snack
💻 12-1: group project research set timers to keep yourself accountable. i use the “focus keeper” app for 25-minute work sessions with 5-minute breaks. it’s surprisingly motivating!
📅 the magic of reverse scheduling: if you know you want to be in bed by, say, 11 pm, plan your day backwards from there. schedule your evening wind-down routine (like skincare, a little journaling, and tea) and work your way back through the hours, assigning tasks in reverse. this way, you’re prioritizing sleep as non-negotiable and shaping your day to respect that.
✨ my fave apps for dreamy productivity:
notion: perfect for creating aesthetic, organized to-do lists, study schedules, and even journaling about your progress.
flora: turns studying into a game by planting a virtual tree while you focus. if you leave the app, the tree dies (no pressure, right?).
toggl: tracks your time so you can see how long tasks actually take. it’s eye-opening to realize you might be spending way more time scrolling than studying.
clockify: like a little personal assistant that tracks your study sessions and breaks. it’s simple and kind of addicting to see how productive you’ve been.
habitica: makes productivity feel like an RPG game. complete with character upgrades when you check things off. honestly, it’s too cute to resist.
💖 mindy’s personal tips:
📝 batch similar tasks: do all your note-taking at once, then all your problem-solving. your brain doesn’t have to keep switching gears.
🎯 use the “two-minute rule”: if something takes less than two minutes, do it right away (like replying to emails or organizing your notes).
🕰️ the 1-3-5 rule: pick one big task, three medium tasks, and five small ones to accomplish each day. it keeps your to-do list from being overwhelming.
✨ romanticize rest too: treat your sleep as sacred. create a pre-bed routine that you actually look forward to, like reading a few pages of a lighthearted book or doing a little night yoga.
🌸 don't forget how important 'no' is: sometimes, we overcommit because we’re too nice to say no. it’s okay to protect your time! practice polite ways to decline extra responsibilities when you know they’ll eat into your sleep. like, “i’d love to help, but i have to focus on my assignments tonight. let’s plan something for the weekend!”
🌙 gentle evening wind-down: your body needs time to transition from productivity mode to sleep mode. about an hour before bed, turn off your screens, dim the lights, and switch to calming activities. i like using the “calm” app for guided meditations that feel like little bedtime stories.
🌱 become a morning person (yes, it’s possible)
one trick that really works is having something to look forward to. think of a tiny, indulgent ritual that you save just for mornings. maybe it’s a frothy matcha latte with vanilla syrup, journaling in a pretty notebook, or listening to your favorite podcast while you stretch. the key is to make mornings feel like a gift to yourself rather than just the start of a grind.
set your alarm to a song that makes you feel good!! something soft and happy. bonus points if it’s different from your usual playlist because it’ll feel special. place your phone across the room so you have to physically get up to turn it off. i also love using the “alarmy” app because it makes you solve a simple puzzle before it stops ringing (annoying, but effective).
once you’re up, avoid falling back into bed by making your bed immediately. it’s like telling your brain, “we’re up now. no going back.” then, try a quick, gentle morning stretch to wake your body up without feeling rushed. mornings can actually feel soft and peaceful if you give yourself permission to take it slow.
as for getting enough sleep the night before. make it non-negotiable. treat your bedtime like an important meeting you can’t cancel. remind yourself that a well-rested mind works way better than a sleep-deprived one. it’s all about romanticizing rest as part of your productivity rather than seeing it as wasted time.
give it a week, and see how you feel. even a small shift, like waking up 30 minutes earlier, can make your day feel more spacious and less chaotic. being a morning person is just about creating tiny habits that make mornings feel like a calm beginning rather than a rushed scramble.
🌸 micro productivity okay, let’s be real... sometimes the idea of sitting down for a three-hour study session feels completely overwhelming. that’s where micro productivity comes in. instead of blocking out huge chunks of time, break your tasks into mini-sprints that fit into the small gaps of your day.
for example, while waiting for your coffee to brew, you could make a quick list of your priorities for the day. during your commute or while you’re eating lunch, review your flashcards or skim your notes. those little moments add up, and suddenly your workload doesn’t feel as intense because you’ve been chipping away at it throughout the day.
one of my favorite apps for this is “quizlet.” you can make digital flashcards and quickly review them whenever you have a spare moment. or use “ankidroid” for spaced repetition. it’s great for subjects that require lots of memorization.
another trick? the “two-minute rule.” if a task takes less than two minutes, do it immediately rather than adding it to your to-do list. this helps clear out small, annoying tasks that tend to pile up (like replying to emails or organizing your desktop).
i also love the idea of micro journaling. sometimes, when you’re overwhelmed, writing down just one thought or feeling can give your brain the clarity it craves. it doesn’t have to be a full journal entry, just a few words that capture your mood or intention.
don’t underestimate the function of small wins. every tiny task you complete builds momentum and makes the bigger assignments feel more doable. it’s like telling yourself, “i’m already being productive today. let’s keep that energy going.”
the goal is to make productivity feel more like a series of little achievements rather than one massive to-do list. micro productivity helps you stay on top of things without burning out, and it feels way more manageable when your schedule is packed.
💫 stay motivated when your energy is low we’ve all been there. those days when your brain feels like it’s wrapped in a fog, and the idea of tackling your to-do list feels impossible. it’s okay to have low-energy days, but let’s find a way to work with them instead of against them.
first, check in with yourself. is your low energy from lack of sleep, stress, or just general burnout? sometimes just identifying the reason helps you figure out what kind of self-care you need. if you’re physically tired, maybe your focus should be on rest or low-effort tasks. if it’s more mental fatigue, try switching up your study space or doing something creative to break the monotony.
use the idea of “productive rest.” sometimes, resting doesn’t mean doing nothing. it can be as simple as switching tasks to something lighter, like organizing your notes or doing some gentle stretching while listening to a podcast related to your coursework. this way, you’re still moving forward, just at a gentler pace.
set up a reward system to motivate yourself. for example, after 20 minutes of studying, give yourself a 5-minute break to scroll through pinterest or listen to a song you love. use apps like “forest” to stay focused during your work session and then celebrate with a cute coffee break when your tree grows.
also, be kind to yourself. it’s okay if you’re not operating at 100% all the time. instead of pushing yourself to be overly productive, prioritize what actually needs to get done. sometimes, just getting one important task out of the way is enough for the day, and that’s completely valid.
remember, your energy levels fluctuate, and that’s perfectly normal. don’t pressure yourself to be endlessly productive. balance is key. the goal is sustainable productivity, not burning out from trying to do everything at once. listen to your body, adjust your pace, and know that it’s okay to take breaks when you need them.
💫 final thoughts: it’s all about balance, being productive during the day is great, but you’re human. you can’t be on 24/7. give yourself grace when things don’t go perfectly. the goal isn’t perfection; it’s progress. prioritize rest as much as you prioritize getting things done, and your mind (and grades) will thank you.
xoxo mindy

as a general rule, your social media experience will be so much better if you block celebrities, influencers, corporations, brands, and any account or person that could fall in that wider grouping
when you shift to people who are hobbyists in things you enjoy or are interested in (or even sometimes just something completely new), people in education and research sharing information, grassroots charities, etc, the online experience actually becomes way more bearable

Hi lovie!!! I was stalking your blog as usual (hehe) when I came across a requests from your 6k celebration of a visually impaired!reader. I was always too shy to ask something like this but i'm glad someone did! )i'm not sure if you remember)
If you feel comfortable can you please write some comfort with the marauders and a vitally impaired reader who doesn't feel like she's enough? I kinda feel useless when it comes to performing daily tasks normally because neither can I use the walking stick or. classify as a person with enough vision to be independent. Sorry for the rambling but please feel free to ignore this request if it's not your thing! all the love <333
Thank you for requesting lovely! I always get nervous about writing about groups I don’t represent, so if anything here is inaccurate or offensive at all please do let me know! I did research but there are some things too specific for the internet to have much about and I’m always looking to grow <3

When Sirius’ phone rings, James knows it’s you because he rolls over on the bed, a giant, lovesick grin spreading across his face.
“Hello, gorgeous,” he says upon picking up. Remus rolls his eyes at his sultry tone, and Sirius kicks him lightly. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
James is close enough that he can hear the sound of your voice on the other line, sweet and asking, but he can’t make out what you’re saying.
“No, yeah, that sounds hazardous.” Sirius’ tone remains casual, but he rolls onto his back again, starting to get up. “Stay where you are, dollface, help is on the way. Yeah, the other boys are up too—wait, did you only call me because you thought I’d be the only one awake?”
Remus snatches the phone from him. “Where are you, love?”
Sirius sulks. James gives his shoulder a few solid pats.
It’s a good thing Remus is the one to talk to you, because the other two would have no clue the coffee shop you were talking about. It’s only a few blocks from your apartment, James notes, and you’re standing outside with your back against the wall. The interior is dark.
“Hi, lovie!” he calls when they’re close enough. “It’s James.”
Your head turns toward them, a little smile taking you. “Hey. Sorry to bother you guys.”
“We were all up,” Remus says, “and we wouldn’t want you walking home by yourself this late regardless.”
“What he means to say,” says Sirius, touching the back of your wrist, your signal that he wants to kiss you. You tilt your face up agreeably, and he plants one on your lips, “is that you could never bother us, sweet thing.”
Your smile goes a bit bashful, chin tucking towards your chest. “I can usually navigate my way here just fine—it’s so close to my place—but I didn’t realize it had gotten so dark.”
“Say no more.” James bumps your elbow lightly with his, offering it to you. “Since we’re here, do you want to come back to our place, or would you rather stay at home?”
Your fingers are cool and gentle as they wrap around the crook of his arm. “If you don’t mind me sleeping at yours…”
Sirius makes an incredulous scoffing noise. “As if we would mind.”
“Thanks.” Your voice is quiet, a tad more subdued than usual. James takes it for fatigue.
“Have you had a chance to eat?” Remus asks. He slips his arm around Sirius’ shoulders as he walks. The other boy looks happy as a clam.
“No, not yet.”
“I’ll make you something,” he offers. “Anything you’re craving? We’ve just been to the grocery.”
“I’m alright with anything.” Still that muted tone to your voice. James looks at you curiously. After a few moments, you say again, “I'm really sorry about this.”
“Angel, you don’t have to keep apologizing,” he says. “What’s there to be sorry for? The sun went down, you can’t help it.”
But your expression is somber, your lips downturnt. “You had to come over here to walk me home, and now you’re making me dinner, too. I just feel…I don’t know, I guess I feel sort of useless. I need someone to do everything for me.”
“Dove, what?” Remus looks over at you, brow furrowed. “We do more for Sirius than we do for you.”
You look surprised and Sirius offended, but James chimes in, “It’s true. You know how much maintenance he takes. He wouldn’t set a foot out of bed in the morning if one of us didn’t make him.”
“I think the more important point is,” Sirius interjects loudly, “that we don’t have to do things for you so much as we get to, gorgeous. Like, you could probably sort your own dinner if you needed to, but Rem and Jamie would each rather saw off their pinkie toes than let either of us cook for ourselves.”
“I think you’d just rather I do that than you cook,” Remus mutters.
“And as for walking you home,” Sirius blazes on, “do we seem anything less than completely stoked to be here? Because if so, please let me know. I’m clearly not doing well enough at expressing myself.”
“Of course you’ve been great.” You tuck yourself closer to James’ side, stepping over a curb when he murmurs a warning. “You always are.”
“We’re not just being kind, dove,” Remus says gently. “It doesn’t take much to do things for you, because we like doing them. It’s never a bother.”
“You take care of us, too,” James reminds you. “You always listen, and you’re really good at massaging Remus’ knee when it hurts him. You’re the only one of us who the cat that comes to our back door will let touch it.” You smile, and he sets his hand atop yours, squeezing fondly.
“It’s easy when it’s someone you care about,” says Remus, “yeah?”
All three of them, even Sirius, let the question hang until you’re forced to answer. After a few moments, you sigh, resignation covered with a healthy coating of gratitude.
“Yeah,” you admit. “I guess so.”
“It has to be,” James jokes, “or Sirius wouldn’t have had a meal for years now.”
“Alright, alright.” Sirius steps out from under Remus’ arm, walking backward so he can gesture as he talks. “I’ll have you know, you’re not so easy to live with either! You’ve not gotten any tidier since we were thirteen, and half the time I come into the kitchen after you’re done doing your saintly work for me to find the whole place smoldering—”
“See, dovey,” Remus leans close to murmur, “how could you be any trouble when we’re already head over heels for this?’
