Potential Trigger warning: discussions of child death under the cut (In context of charity)
(ps @hekate-offical @artemis-offical @gaia-offical I'm tagging you to spread this which is not something I'd usually do but if you're comfortable please read it and you'll see why)
For any of the Offical verse who want to. In light of the disgusting comments made by offical-officalverse I'm sharing the page of an Australian charity called Red Nose. They collect funds to try to prevent stillbirths and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome/ Cot death) as well as act to support families who have lost children. This isn't a plea for donations (even though they'd probs be more than welcome) but rather myself sharing a resource that might be act as an education device and possibly encourage people to help raise awareness for these issues.
This is really close to my heart as I've mentioned before that my older sibling was a stillborn. So please try to support such charities whether financially or simply by wearing a red nose this August 8th
#Officalverse#Red nose day#tw stillbirth#tw child death#Fuck Offical officalverse#I've seen tags in support of Eve being in the Offical verse#So Eve is in the Offical verse#But yeah#It's be nice if some people took a look at this.

love is so wonderfully portrayed in the apothecary diaries. it's one of my favourite features of the story alongside it's ability to portray humanity incredibly well. maomao growing up in an environment where she was loved by many but at the same time left alone for a long time, left her with a sense of hyper independence and compartmentalisation. coupled with courtesan work and her perception of love from men is unconsciously biased as transactional - it's why she has trouble connecting with jinshi, despite them bonding on their shared internal struggles.
shisui/loulan is an even more interesting case. even from when before she was conceived, love was something to take, to barter and to fight for. it was never unconditional, never presented with a warm hug but instead harsh screams and the burn of scalding water. what results is a highly perceptive and incredibly intelligent person, but ultimately crippled by the not-so-gilded cage they were born in. both her and maomao are devastatingly similar in how they treat their parents. both have neglectful parents, powerful in their positions but cowards and incompetent in actually parenting. both detach themselves from their parents, and yet, do things for them anyway because of their deep understanding. maomao danced, wore makeup and a dress just for her parent's marriage, shisui scratched jinshi and apologised to her mother despite having the full right to say fuck you and walk away. the only difference is that while maomao was neglected and forced to grow up quickly, shisui was repressed and beaten into a doll. we see this sweet girl bound to the cruelest of monsters and it created a vast dissonance in both her cognitive ability and her identity. the longer you wear a mask the harder it is to take off.
don't even get me STARTED on shisou. his love was pure and true, which in most stories, is a good thing, and yet it only resulted in the enabling of shenmei's horrible acts and the ignorance of his own daughters, one who was being treated worse than an animal and another a living doll. as shisui said, tanukis are cunning only because they are timid. they have no other choice than to outsmart their opponents. but in the end, no amount of planning will trump cowardice.
tldr, the story does a brilliant fucking job at showing the ugly and twisted facets of love that act both as shackles and wings.

hi nat! do you know any micksteban lore? id like to read up on them but idk where to start
hey!
putting this under a cut bc uh this got long lol
so, i am not sure when they met for the first time, but este already talked about mick back in 2017:

and then of course mick joined f1 in 2021, and este immediately befriended him:

their friendship developed so quickly so well that they already vacationed together in early november 21, together with mick's sister gina:

always glued together on and off the grid. shortly after mick and lance were invited to este's birthday (rip to all the ex gfs in the pic):

in early 2022, the haas crew went inside skydiving, and mick ofc brought este along:

in the first race of the 22 season, este touched mick with his car, and felt profusely sorry. he ran after mick directly after the race and apologised in every single interview about it (feat the fitting soundtrack i put over it):
shortly after, mick had a huge shunt, and este was super worried. mick got taken to a hospital for check-ups, and este said in every single interview how he hopes he's okay and that he would call him immediately later.

on his beyond the grid ep, este talked about his close friendship with mick and lance, and how they visit one another. he also added if he had to crash anyone, he felt worse when it was those two. here the link to the excerpt, since tumblr only allows one video per post rip.
in july 22, este and his then gf also visited gina's horse show!

and, ofc, another year, another bday with mick:

they also did a helmet swap!

another cute thing:

more cuteness:

after it was public mick lost his haas seat (while advocating for mick to take the vacant alpine seat next to him):

este supporting him even more:

also in 23, mick was now merc reserve (sth este knows all too well). they vacationed once again and gave us those gay ass pics:

they also celebrated new years together for 24:

then este joined alpine wec in 24:

some more cuteness from september 24:

when it was clear este was joining haas, he got asked about mick and:

and now mick is aiming to come back to f1, and i hope he makes it :)
bonus: este was one of the few invited to gina's wedding that was super private since michael also attended <3 he is an honourary schumacher, part of the family whose wdc was his idol as kid :)

Honor as a concept in Predator Killer of Killers:
When Ursa is tasked with avenging her father, we see that it wasn’t something she undertook and bore out of her own sense of justice. Some could sit around and claim that back then blah blah blah, but the fact of the matter is that her quest to avenge her father is presented as something deeply traumatic that has hurt her spiritually, psychologically, emotionally and has caused some pretty hefty burdens between she and her son. On the onset, it is made to LOOK like this is something she has come to terms with and even extends as a noble endeavor to Anders should SHE fall, but by the time Anders dies, we are made to question how little any of it fucking mattered to her in the first place. “Did you kill the monster, mother?” When only a few days ago, Ursa described her trauma as a monster.
She didn’t kill shit. She didn’t kill the monster cuz that trauma is inside her and it nearly cost her and her fellow human’s their lives. She was not living honorably because she wasn’t doing any of this for the right reasons. Her calling Torres and Kenji her boys was so beautiful because i think it’s the first time in her entire life after her father died that she was able to see others as people again.
Kenji and his brother being forced into a duel at such a young age is also not presented as particularly honorable. Insert random people saying but back them blah blah blah, yet even after all their years separated and honing his skills, Kenji very clearly did NOT intended or care to kill his brother. He fucking naruto’ed his ass as gave him the same scar he inflicted on him and wanted to call it a day. Kenji’s honor relies heavily on the fact that he wont do something because the person in charge says it’s what he HAS to do. There is just as much honor in choosing not to fight and staying ones hand then there is in fighting and dying.
TBH i think the Grendel King actually reminded him ALOT of his dad because no, bitch, he’s not about to fight because YOU want him to, he refuses to be entertainment, because at the end of the day that’s what it is. Kenji spent years training and was objectively a better fighter than his brother, presumably even back when they were children, but why the hell would he ever raise a hand to his brother for some asshole who thinks it’s a privilege to be his heir? Why the hell would he fight his fellow humans for some asshole who says it would be a privilege to fight him?
Torres is such a nice blend of both because he is definitely looking to be a pilot for the wrong reasons, but has enough sense to step up for others when he was in his right to stay back. He cared about his unit and immediately cares about his fellow humans to try to escape with them, rather than fight for a single moment. Because let’s really think about this: Torres is a PILOT, yet these Yautja poached him and gave him a gun?? That’s not his battle prowess, that’s not how he proved himself. It is BONKERS that they put him in that ring in the first place, so they obviously weren’t prepared for when Torres stuck to his proverbial guns and stole their ringmaster’s whole ship.
Now we may think hey that’s not very honorable, that’s more showing how sneaky humans can be when in FACT….Torres did exactly what he did before and finagled his way to victory. He took away their bomb collars, he used their own weapons against them, and he used his piloting knowledge to get away, he made things FAIR after these particular Yautja made it unfair. There’s honor in taking a third option.
i think it's especially important that the human characters' sense of honor was challenged in their personal lives before the Yautja even showed up.
Ursa did everything she was "supposed" to do in avenging her father, yet the man who killed him mocked her for it and, as all real cowards do, tried to belittle and take away her sense of purpose by claiming she did it wrong and that he was right
Kenji's dad disapproved of both of his sons - Kenji for refusing to fight at all, and his brother for being "weaker" but accepting him only because he actually listened. He's clearly portrayed as a repulsive, I'd say dishonorable man, who wanted what HE thought was best, while Kenji was the only one to stand up for his own sense of honor. And again, he never wanted to kill his brother, just scar him.
Torres is special to me because he's the more "dishonorable" human, who's immaturity and sense of wanderlust makes him a problem to others, who care about him but are always bailing him out. Torres KNOWS more honorable people, and rises above himself to meet them on their level. His sense of empathy overrides his own ego and he'll do anything to help others even if it's stupid or crazy.
so if ALL three characters had to push back or against something to prove that their moral code - or honor code - is worth living with, than it's especially important for us to question what that sense of worth means when up against the Warlord's clan and THEIR apparent interpretation of the codex.
because Warlord DOES challenge the humans in the exact way their opponents have before their kidnapping. Kenji refuses to kill because someone else tells him to, Ursa at first follows the rules because she is told she HAS to before realizing she cares more about protecting others than whatever sense of honor someone ELSE says she ought to chase, and Torres ends up saving his fellow humans in the way he wanted to save his fellow soldiers
Bad Blood label or not aside, we are MEANT to question hey what's it mean to be the killer of killers at all given what we've seen. is that something honorable? and if yes, are these specific characters being honorable? and if not...what does that mean? how does it fit the narrative? what is Dan trying to say.........................?
it's a very simple and open-ended question that gets lost when we focus on one single character instead of the whole of the cast.
#yautja#predator killer of killers#i think....i'm satisfied now i think i said all i wanted to talk about the movie yes yes im happy now#someone else pointed out the daddy issues of the movie so im not gonna get into it myself#but yeah#this is the most active I’ve been in a long time thank you Dan😭👍🏼👍🏼

YALL. I promise I do more than complain on my blog, really.
But what is this I hear about us getting a new Red Hood run???
Let’s break this all down shall we.
DC are giving us absolutely everything we never asked for… “The core aspects of Jason’s character” ie what they believe are his core aspects - “his difficulties with personal connections, his badass training, his brooding hotness” -Did I read that correctly??
HIS BROODING HOTNESS?? -and his violent approach to heroism” Did they really think we as fans would be giggling twirling our hair kicking our feet excited that we get to see Jason’s “core characteristics” shown FINALLY GOD YES WEVE WAITED SO LONG WE FINALLY GET TO SEE HIS BROODING HOTNESS ON PAPER THANK GOD. So glad they included that phew. Not to mention “Every element of the book highlights the core aspects of Jason’s character” so we’ve got to expect his brooding hotness and all of the other characteristics they’ve put down as essential and his whole personality throughout the ENTIRE book. I can’t believe the writers think that’s one of Jason’s core characteristics agdjakhd. But we move on.
His difficulties with personal connections, okay. That’s something I admit is important to Jason’s character. He doesn’t connect well emotionally and I hope that gets explored
Badass training im sorry, that just sounds silly. Are they alluding to him using the al caste blades? Martial arts at the league of shadows?? Different fighting or training techniques with Batman? Marksman training as red hood? Because all of that could be interesting to explore, Or are they just saying “badass training” to make people think yippee “badass” let me go read it??
Violent approach to heroism, yes. That is actually something I myself and other Jason fans have been wanting. No more rubber bullets for the sake of Batman’s morals. Let Jason kill. I hope they let Jason kill people for the sake of his own morality and not unnecessary violence. If there’s one thing about Jason, he’s very meticulous. No death is uncounted for. He won’t be careless with his violence so I hope they don’t make him bloodthirsty in a way that makes him feel too antagonistic. I love a good antihero but at the end of the day, he’s always trying to save lives

Next, why are they introducing more girls into Jason’s love life?? They’ve already had Essence, Isabel, Rose and Artemis come and go, like where is this going?? Leave Helena alone please she’s too good for Jason. If you want to do a team up then okay, I’m all for 2 bad bitches teaming up, but romance??
And don’t come at me with ‘But Red, who said they’re dating, you’re jumping to conclusions?!’
Exhibit A

NICK ROBLES YOUR ART IS GORGEOUS BUT DAMN YOU
Next up, “Red Hood (the series) is gritty, bloody, sexy and stripped down”. WHY ARE YOU DESCRIBING IT AS SEXY??

“Get ready for an angsty sexy, and violent new chapter in Jason Todd’s legend”

…they’re really just going to keep describing the series as sexy 😭.
Yeah, there’s really no doubt that these two are going to hook up when they describe it as sexy AND it’s got a mature rating (17+). Really don’t know why they’ve forced this… literally no one wants this.
Okay, now let’s talk about the costume
The costume: I actually like it, so sue me. I love the black, I prefer his brown jacket but I like this too. I love the details on the shoulders and the neck and the ripped red on his gloves. It gives me cyberpunk, Tokyo-esque vibes and I quite like it. His face however is not it.

So in conclusion, Jason kills people whilst relishing in his brooding hotness, and getting it on with Helena.

See. ^^^ BROODING HOTNESS.
#I’ll probable read it just to see the massacrisation of the series#But yk online w an eyepatch and a parrot on my shoulder if you get what i mean#I’m also chronically late to all dc news#I mostly found this all funny and disappointing#It’s not something I’m angry about or anything so take this lightly#but yeah#Let me know what you all think#Red rambles#jason todd#red hood#batfamily#dc#Red Hood series#Red Hood comic#dc comics#helena bertinelli#long post

Sometimes I wonder how everything would've turned out if Mike hadn't gone up to Will on the swing set.
Mike would've ended up lonely without any friends, because let's be honest, Lucas and Mike would've not gotten along initially. I'm thoroughly convinced that they needed Will to convince them they could be friends, even best friends. Maybe Dustin and Mike would've gotten along, but since Dustin lives further from Lucas' place, they wouldn't have become that good of friends.
Will would've been trapped in a cycle of bullies. Lonnie, at home, would've been horrible. At school, there were the homophobic bullies. Jonathan obviously helped, but it's different from having friends, having Mike. Perhaps, Dustin and Will would've been friends, but then again, would they have been that close?
Dustin and Lucas are a lot more social, I think. Maybe they'd have been friends, maybe not. And even if they didn't have very good friends like the Party, they'd probably have some friends in different social circles. But then again, they'd still be bullied A LOT.
Thank you, Mike, for going up to Will that day.
#or would they all have ended up being entirely different people with maybe new friends#idk why i was even thinking about this#i wonder how all the upside down would've happened if the boys never knew each other#would be horrible#this was sad to think about#mike and will have to be friends#best friends#SOULMATES#and i love the party :(#i'll just leave this here#byler#stranger things#mike wheeler#will byers#dustin henderson#lucas sinclair#the party

Without hearing examples or knowing you personally, I can only guess. But I think “needing to have the last word” usually means they actually think you “need to be right”, or are being too stubborn/black and white.
I have fixed this by being softer in disagreements, ie. “Are you sure? Where did you hear that?” Instead of “you’re wrong.” I would guess that trying to educate people, while a noble pursuit, is probably coming off wrong?
If you gave nothing to say, there’s always the blank responses of “that’s interesting” or something, or just “fair enough”. If you don’t know what they want, I find sometimes you can just ask. “Do you want my opinion or are we venting?” is solid.
Again, it kinda depends on the context and what people are actually complaining about. Sorry I can’t be of much help.
Question that I suspect is autism related
I have, on more than one occasion over multiple decades, been told that I “need to have the last word” and that I “have a response for everything”.
Additionally and in a similar vein, I’ve been told that “everything is an argument with you” and I “always have to say something”.
When I was a little kid I was bad at conversations. People said stuff I had no opinion on or didn’t need follow-up and so I wouldn’t answer and they’d get bored. And eventually through trial and error I figured out that if someone said something to me, all I had to do was say something related back, and the interaction could go on as long as it needed to.
But then as a teen- and now as an adult- a number of people (mostly people I’ve found to be very delicate and particular about things in a sort of need-to-be-in-control authoritarian way) have expressed the identical observation about how I naturally try to converse, and I’m not sure what to do about it.
And the thing is, I have a sibling that talks like this too. We bicker all the time. He changes his own opinions seemingly at a whim for the purpose of being contrary, and it’s impossible to make a statement or observation out loud without him contradicting it, and even when he is demonstrably, factually wrong about something, he will dig his heels into the dirt and defend his stance to the grave.
And like. I hear myself responding, or adding on to people’s comments, but I don’t hear the ‘arguing’ they describe, or the contrarian habits of my sibling. Even when I’m paying attention and being bery careful not to follow up too much or speak too often or disagree or correct something that isn’t important, I get called out for “picking a fight”. They say something, I answer, they reply, I continue, then seemingly out of nowhere they snap. I think everything’s fine until suddenly it isn’t.
And so I guess my question is, how can you tell if you’re a contrary sort of person? How can you tell when to respond or follow up on a person’s statement and how do you know when to leave it in silence? Does everybody see me this way, and is it only people who are already short-tempered who are willing to say it?
I honestly don’t really have that much to say, and half the time I don’t even really want to talk at all, but I’ve been told countless times that I “just seem to like the sound of your own voice” and have to just be “tuned out after a while”. So if it isn’t necessary and I don’t even want to, why am I doing it?
Is there a reason I’m like this? Why is my sibling like this? How do I stop talking when there’s nothing to say, and how can I tell the difference between a conversation and an argument before the other person visibly snaps?
I’m a full grown adult
#I’m a high masking neurodivergent linguist plus speech pathologist#I wanna eventually study pragmatics and get my doctorate teaching people this stuff#but yeah
