I know this is an unpopular opinion but... SJM doesn't actually owe anyone any posts over social media. Would it be nice of her to say something about the anniversary? Sure. It would be nice of her to put out an announcement too.

It's one thing to be frustrated with the lack of any news and such but another to *demand* that she, the author, personally come out and address her fans. She's not the queen of England. :P

(And based on the way some of y'all act on every BB, SJM, and SJM- adjacent post, I don't blame her for staying quiet. She's been put in a "damned if she does, damned if she doesn't situation".)

Okay, people. I need to soapbox for a hot minute.

My favorite fandom worlds are imploding on their own people, and it’s fucking ridiculous.

1) Lockwood and Co.

I hate to point this out, but I’m gonna anyway. There is no Locklyle WRITTEN ship in the books. There is an implied ship. The author confirmed that it was intentionally implied. But it wasn’t written. So you know what? There is NO canon ship.

You know what that means? People can ship whomever the fuck they want without “breaking canon”. If you write Locklyle, fine. But that makes you no better than people who are enjoying other ships. And even then, it’s a fandom. It’s imaginary shit. The way to keep the fandom alive and thrive is to NOT PUBLICALLY CASTIGATE AND PUT DOWN other shippers and their ideas, works, or conversations. If you do that, it’s YOU who is poisoning the fandom.

2) Stray Kids

Holy fuck, people! Can’t we all just be adults?

a) Do not attack people who interact with our boys in a professional capacity. It’s not helpful to the group to give them a reputation for having an out of control fanbase. It could cause their opportunities become limited just because others are scared that Stay may get offended by something.

b) If you don’t want to support the new song, don’t. Don’t buy it. Don’t stream it. Don’t get it off of a secondary site just because you can listen without supporting the collaboration.

DO keep your choices to yourself. Your choices are not supposed to apply to other Stay. We can make our own decisions. Other Stay are not lesser, wrong, unethical, Zionists, pro-genecide or any other thing you want to call them. They are simply supporting SKZ their own chosen way.

In closing, this is simple. Do what you want for yourself. Stop thinking your decision has any bearing on other people. Your ego is showing. You aren’t that fucking special. Check yourself.

I'm seeing many people feel weird about the scene that Aemond had in the last episode and I can think but wonder: did you feel disgusted because he is in the arms of his abuser or did your stereotypes about toxic masculinity have ruined Aemond for you just because he is not being a cold man who doesn't care about a thing, that you expected him to be?

If it's the second please you need to check yourself because let me tell you something in case you didn't know: men can be ruthless and vulnerable at the same time, these two traits can co-exist and don't threatened one another.

My personal gripe when it comes to shipping culture isn't just when people choose to hate on other ships that aren't their otp, but when they choose to be purposely obtuse as to why people may ship a certain pair despite the "ethics" of the relationship. "But that relationship is so inappropriate!" It's the same issue where people just assume because you interact with a certain piece of media, it must mean you support everything that media portrays, as though critical thinking doesn't exist anymore.

I just saw a post where someone was going on about how they don't understand how people can ship catwin because of the age difference and power dynamic and called people who shipped them "weird." That's just such an unfair conclusion, considering the show itself does not attempt to hide the fact that there is supposed to be clear chemistry and attraction between Edwin and the Cat King. So you're going to criticize people for literally responding the way the writers intended? It's not as though this person doesn't actually understand why people ship catwin — they just wanted to frame it as though people either purposely ignore the supposed "age difference" or support power imbalances when it's obvious catwin appeals to people because of the dynamic the characters have with each other. The attraction towards Catwin isn't centered on the power imbalance at all — it's about the character's interactions and the way one complements the other.

If we're looking at a more controversial ship, Sebaciel has much more problematic elements to it, with Ciel being a literal child. But it's not as though you can't understand why it's a ship when the author is so obvious about how the relationship is meant to be suggestive. The ship has aspects to it beyond the pedophilia. It's not as though people who ship Sebaciel support everything about it, but the chemistry between Sebastian and Ciel, which again, is purposefully placed there, has appeal.

I personally, am not a supporter of Zutara. For me, it just seems like too obvious of a pairing what with fire always being associated with water and all. But not just that, I just don't like the idea of a relationship based on forgiving and falling in love with someone who had an active role in the terrorizing of your people. Zuko literally threatens Katara's village in the first episode. Yes, he's redeems himself and I do like him as a character, but for me, it's difficult to ignore when considering him as a love interest for Katara. But I'm not going around calling all Zutura shippers problematic for shipping these two, because I have enough sense to know why people ship them. It's a classic enemies to lovers. They clearly care for each other. There are parallels in their individual personal journeys that complement each other. I get it.

It's just really ignorant to act as though a ship has to be completely unproblematic in order to justify the support or to only see a ship for its most offensive aspects. Different fandoms hold different standards, and we tend to cherry-pick what we support in order to push our own agendas/ships, so not only is hating on ships unnecessary, it's hypocritical.

Are you legitimately criticizing Israel or antisemitic? Questions to ask yourself:

What is antisemitism? | IHRA (holocaustremembrance.com) Let's start here. Does whatever you're saying, writing, or drawing go against the basic definition laid out here, or clearly fall into one of the examples given? If it does, you should almost certainly rethink your statement completely; even though this definition isn't legally binding, it's still a pretty darn good metric.

If you replace the word "Zionists/Israelis" in your statement with "Jews," does it sound antisemitic? ❌ If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck, even if it's wearing a dog costume. Your statement is antisemitic; please rethink it and probably also your general attitude.

Are you questioning the Jewish connection to Israel? ❌ Jews have an archaeologically confirmed, continuous history in Israel going back 3000 years. We pray for a return to Jerusalem and a rebuilt Holy Temple multiple times a day. Many of our religious practices are based around Israel's agricultural cycles. Even genetics supports our claim! It is our homeland, period, end of discussion. Claiming that we have no right to be there is antisemitic, except maybe if you also question the rights of other religious and/or ethnic groups to their homelands.

Are you implying that Israel should cease to exist? ❌ Would you say that about literally any other country that gained independence within the last century, regardless of demographics? If the answer is no, then saying it about Israel is antisemitic. If you want to see an independent Ukraine, Tibet, and/or Taiwan, you don't get to turn around and claim that specifically Jews aren't allowed self-determination. In any case, where precisely do you expect all the Jews currently living there, the majority of whom are from countries that persecuted them and/or outright expelled them, to go if Israel suddenly ceases to exist as a Jewish state? Hamas' charter explicitly calls for the genocide of Jews, and "from the river to the sea" Israel would be ethnically cleansed if they had their way.

Are you implying that all Jews are responsible for things happening in Israel? ❌ If so, this is antisemitic. Diaspora Jews don't have much if any influence over Israeli politics, and plenty of them disagree with various Israeli policies and politicians. The word "Jews" simply refers to an ethnoreligious group with tons of variation in beliefs and practices, not some kind of powerful monolith. If you don't blame Chinese immigrants for the genocide of Uyghurs or all Muslims for Islamist terrorism, you don't get to blame all Jews for whatever's going on in Israel.

Do you view all Israelis as legitimate military targets for rockets & attacks? ❌ Even if you're going with the theory that they're all culpable because they all served in the military, you're still way off base. 1) They don't actually all serve in the army, and 2) by that logic, all veterans in your country are legitimate targets for nationalistic attacks. I'm pretty sure you don't think that. Also, you're forgetting about children and foreign workers; there are few if any places on Earth where those would be considered legitimate military targets. Rockets, bombs, and bullets don't discriminate in who they hit. There have been many cases, including in the current war, where they've harmed Israeli Arabs!

It is extremely important that you put aside your preconceived notions of minorities or outgroups and actually listen to them. Reserve your judgements for after you have analysed their actions and stances instead of before you grapple with biases and stereotypes. Do your research first.

Every time I find myself thinking harmful stereotypes or bigoted thoughts, I try to challenge them before acting. It is important to remain vigilant at all times to these insidious trains of thought. Remember that you are not immune to propaganda and questioning and testing your worldview with fact checking is an important part of mental hygine.
