until i started rooting around in the world data with dfhack i didn't realize that dwarf fortress randomly generates dance forms for each civilization and they can spread via trade and contact. you cannot really engage with this system at all in fortress mode, and adventure mode is still in beta, so this is hilarious to me. it's like the procedurally generated musical instruments. the things that tarn adams chooses to simulate in excruciating detail are really random.

and yet each species still has only one language, the name generation system is patently ridiculous, and the topography is pure perlin noise. this is why dwarf fortress will always have a charm its imitators can never match. it's just completely idiosyncratic in terms of its concerns and aesthetic.

I unironically view him as Jewish coded, and I feel the only reasons why are because the cooking music kind of sounds Jewish and because Tolkien's Dwarves (which obviously are major influences on all other dwarves that came after) are themselves inspired by Jews (and in a way that's a lot more respectful than you'd think while still not fetishizing them)

A surprise mod I wasn't planning on, Accurate Cat Graphics! It updates cats so that their eye and fur color for every body part in their description is accurately represented. With 43 different fur colors for each body part, and 51 different eye colors, this means you could have a few hundred thousand different variations in your fort! Can be Found here (x)

obviously i may change my mind when the game is actually released but i have two very rough ideas for characters for my first two veilguard playthroughs.

i WILL be playing an old man dwarf warrior from the lords of fortune. i don't have anything else about him fleshed out really besides the fact that he will be paired with Emmrich. old man yaoi or whatever the girlies are saying

and then I want to play as a shadow dragon that was a former indentured servant I think. Haven't decided how they ended up as an indentured servant or how they earned their freedom yet. either human or elf for that one?

comming to the realization that my dnd character is VERRYYY similar to gilion tidestrider

A. is a paladin. + both are like religious characters

b. has a connection to the moon. for gillion the moon is like the godess who chose him/mother, reynas lover is the moon

c. is very confused about the world. gillion because he isnt from there and reyna because she is just generally hapless

d. both have chaotic good alignments(im not entirely sure what gillions alignment is but ill eat my hat if its not chaotic good)

e. have friends who like to steal and commit crimes. Gillion with being part of a pirate crew, Reyna because of Sachka's whole deal

f. Have no filter

And wow, for a show that advocates "true love", this mini-plot sucks. Because dwarfs and fairies are just "supposed to do their jobs" and all that shite. Yeah, sacrifice your happiness to "bring joy to the world". Except if you're a main character type, then you can choose true love.

Not good, show. Not nice. You just wanted to justify why Grumpy is grumpy? And why you gotta hurt Nova like that? They both just want to be happy. There are LOTS of dwarves and fairies that are content with the status quo but you just HAD to break these two apart.

Also, are you telling me that after all this, Grumpy fell in love again and had that diamond fiasco which was why he got sent to jail (where he met Snow)? Seems like dwarves DO love. And seems like they (writers? Directors? Idk) forgot about that Grumpy backstory just a few eps ago.

Guess the show has pockets I didn't notice before.
