An idea for a study project about studying after graduation: Uncredited Credits
I have been kicking around this idea during my graphic design study for a while, since I am nothing but ambitious (and I have a few fond memories of this working before, to my benefit): to actually put in the workload for each topic related to graphic design and applied arts.
Hi. I am Mario, and I have a bachelorās degree in graphic design, which, to you, should mean that I passed every test. And, for the sake of this project, it is best to assume that I barely made the cut each time. It is also best to assume that this applies to everyone with a degree, since scoring high grades is not what makes you pass.
A passing grade does.
So, right now, I am at the point where I am ready to actually understand graphic design (and my second interest: applied arts), and I was looking for a system, a quantifiable system of work put in, translating into workload, per week, per topic.
And that system is called ECTS: the European Credit Transfer System
Each credit in this system translates to roughly 25 hours of workload put in. A topic or lecture is worth 3 credits? That means an investment of 75 hours. 5 credits translate to 125 hours.
You can use this for yourself, independent of whether or not you actually study a course someplace.
So, you can go ahead and look online for a course giving you information about its lectures, topics, ECTS credits, and workload, and create your own schedule, at your own pace:
45 minutes every other day will very quickly beat the eightāhour long crunches once each week, since a good schedule is about allowing consistency to take hold. I am not an educator (yet, afaik), but from what I remember the issue with these crunch sessions is that the session which came before is already barely present, its learnings vague, my progress a memory.
So, let us say that you have found a course telling you about its lectures and classes, and how they are set up. Ideally, with information about recommended literature. If you are a polyglot (and who isnāt these days?) you can again enjoy having an edge, for obvious reasons I donāt need to get into. You have been shopping around colleges and universities around the EU, and you have found out that which interests you most, is figure drawing.
And, for the sake of this example, Iāll say that there are three figure drawing classes, called āfigure drawing Iā, āfigure drawing IIā, and āfigure drawing IIIā respectively, valued at 5 each. To you, this means a workload of 375 hours for your absolute foundations in figure drawing (5 Ć 3 Ć 25).
Of course, to do this, you also need courses in anatomy (75 hours?), drawing (75 plus 75 hours maybe?), and painting (375 hours?) to have those foundations upon which you can build your figure drawing.
Provided you build smart (and frequent a good library in the largest city in your area), we are looking at a workload of around 975 hours.
These are study hours: learning, reading, doing.
What this translates to in terms of doing 45 minutes of work every other day, is that to get those (I assume solid) foundations in figure drawing, assuming you work 3 hours per week in total, will take you 375 weeks.
Or 6.25 years.
This seems slow. And it is. It should be. But the outcome will be the same: a passing grade in figure drawing. For only 45 minutes of work every other day (not counting your trips to the library each time you need a new book to study from).
Of course, we can look at that the other way as well: if that is the workload anyhow, why not get credits for it? They, at the very least, are proof of what you studied. And because, in our example, we just accumulated around 45 ECTS credits, you might as well have them validated and go study for real, feel me?
BTW, my graphic design study was 180 of those credits in total, so you just did a quarter of the points needed for completing a bachelorās degree.
Huh. This was insightful. For both of us, I hope.

my prof just explained on the syllabus that heās included more points in the class than we needed to pass, so we could skip up like?? 20 small assignments/quizzes/participation!! and still get a very high grade!!
the idea was that we could focus on assignments that played to our strengths - only do the participation stuff if we like to talk out loud - only do the quizzes/readings if we want to do the class remotely - only do online discussions if we like to talk and share opinions but struggle with anxiety in class ect.
and thatās cool enough but then he pulled up DnD character sheets with drawings heād done of these hypothetical student player classes and how our various accessibility needs could be gamified to āmax outā different aspects of the class to get high grades and like!!!!!
hell yeah!!!! letās treat accessibility in higher education not just as a necessity but as the fun, engaging, and creative aspect of learning that it is!!! I love this!!
EDIT: For proper credit or further questions about his system please find my professor on twitter @/kurtishanlon
#his drawings were so cute too and they had titles like āsilent warriorā āvoice of the peopleā ect waaaa im so#excited for this class#he also promised to wear a mask and asked us to do the same my mannnn#double shot

some concepts i did for a Sonic redesign!
plus a bonus comic cuz a friend suggested that he has a quick and easy way to salvage his clothes since hes constantly getting in situations that could ruin his drip:
#sonic the hedgehog#sonic fanart#sth#sonic redesign#details that i like the most about the final design:#tips of his quills are frosted to mimic how hedgehogs' quills actually look#darker fur color around his face arms and legs#the glove that has integrated tech that tails gave to him :3 (acts as a speedometer a communicator ect.)#the googles to keep debris out of his eyes that can also be cartoony and expressive!#and of course the lightening bolt motifs everywhere heehee#i wanted to take a more mature take on his design without making it too far from the source material#wanted to keep that sleekness about him while showing a bit of a... idk .. growing into himself?#i honestly really like how hes portrayed in frontiers and how hes a little more gruffer but still himself#i wanted to lean into that with him#like#ill prolly do more for the rest of the crew who knows#moon art

I sort of like the idea of Bruce accidentally adopting Damian. Something happened which caused Damian to run away from the league and towards his father, but all he knows is that is father is batman. Before he can ever find him though, he is taken in by Bruce Wayne.
Damian intended to just slip away the first chance he gets, but somehow his escape plans keep getting interrupted. Eventually he begins to like living with the Waynes so much he starts to consider simply not looking for batman. After all, his father never came for him before. And what proof does he have that batman is so great anyways? He might as well stay with the people who actually like having him around.
Damian assigns himself as the Wayne family's protector because these weak foolish people could certainly never defend themselves. After the third foiled kidnapping attempt Damian is sure he could never leave. They would all die without him. Frankly he is amazed the Wayne's behavior hasn't gotten them all killed yet.
#for Damian it is like pet proofing your home.#but instead it is 'don't go walking around at night in expensive clothes.' 'that business man is trying to take advantage of you.' ect.#Damian CAN'T leave. these idiots would die without him. it is a good thing he is so responsible.#bruce is just happy to have a child who isn't a vigilante even if his main hobby is being the family guard dog#big surprise for him when he eventually does a dna test though lol#batman#batfam#damian wayne#bruce wayne#dc comics#dc#batfamily#my post#if a fic with this concept already exists please sent it to me

When entering any place of business, such as a store or restaurant, if a staff member greets you, then acknowledge them and greet them back.
Although for many jobs it's a required part of their job to greet you, especially retail workers, receptionists, and restaurant workers to name a few, that doesn't make it feel any less dehumanizing to say "Hello!" to another human being only for them to ignore you. Acknowledging staff members and greeting them back is important for acknowledging their humanity, they are, after all, a human being, and not an automated machine.
This is also important when going to check out at a store. If you approach the cash register, and the cashier greets you, you should acknowledge them and greet them back. Cashiers already have to deal with being dehumanized enough. The least you can do is help humanize them by acknowledging them when they greet you and speak to you.
#story time#when I worked retail I had several co-workers#who if someone approached the register and didn't say 'góðan daginn' back#my co-workers would just repeat themselves and refuse to start scanning their stuff until they said góðan daginn back#I did do that myself once or twice#but only to customers who I recognized and had spoken to before (and were speaking to someone else as they were approaching the register)#so I knew it wasn't an issue of being non-verbal or unable to speak that particular day#but otherwise I tried not to make a habit of it#especially with customers I didn't recognize and hadn't heard speaking to anyone else#since you never knew who was non-verbal or was disassociating ect.#I've also been in foreign countries where I was young and scared and afraid to respond to the cashier and give away that I was a foreigner#so anyway I tried to be understanding#but at the same time it did always feel dehumanizing to greet people all day and just get ignored#manners#good manners#courtesy#etiquette#politeness
