All things are full of toil; none can express it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
Ecclesiastes 1:8
Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
Proverbs 27:20
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
1 John 2:16
Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself, for emptiness will be his payment. It will be paid in full before his time, and his branch will not be green.
Job 15:31-32
Therefore, Ezra, empty things are for the empty and full things for the full.
2 Ezdras 7:25
Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
1 Timothy 6:18-19
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Notes
Worldly things will only give temporary satisfaction, then boredom and unfulfilment inevitably creeps in, so one has to search for new exciting things and novelties. It is an endless cycle. The pursuit of personal pleasure/money/status, which is what the Bible refers to as 'selfish ambition', can only provide temporary excitement that will fade. Lasting meaning, therefore, can only be found in good deeds, selfless love, and humility before God.

How Dare We
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31 How dare we question God. Yet we do. Why? Because we want our own way. We think we know better than Him. Do you see how selfish that is? How arrogant? Did…

The Bonfire of Vanity: Advice From the Wisest Man Who Ever Lived
Tom Wolfe (who wrote, “The Bonfire of the Vanities”) said, “The surest cure for vanity is loneliness.” Another person who understood vanity was (an older and somewhat jaded) King Solomon. After living a life of wealth and achievement, and after marrying hundreds of wives and keeping dozens of concubines, he wrote this: “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and…

The Importance of Humility in Overcoming Conceit
In our journey towards spiritual fulfillment, understanding the balance between conceit and humility is crucial. Each of these qualities plays a significant role in shaping not only our personal growth but also our relationships and worldview.
Overcoming Conceit: A Guide to Spiritual Discipline Ecclesiastes 1:13; 1 Corinthians 8:1; Romans 12:16; Genesis 8:21 In a world where self-promotion often takes center stage, the challenge of balancing humility with conceit is more pressing than ever. We often find ourselves grappling with the idea of how to acknowledge our own achievements without slipping into vanity. Biblically speaking,…

Bible Study- Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 ♡
Tumblr media
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace."
In a time like now filled with many distractions, it is easy to be tempted by procrastination. As a college student, I tend to be very harsh on myself when I am not as productive as I would like to me or if I spend too much time doing things other than studying or work. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reminds me that there is a time for all things to take place.
Be kind to yourself when you fall short of your expectations because every season has its purpose, and it's okay to have periods of rest and downtime <3

coldflash fics 2024 wrap up!
I spend too much time hanging around in the coldflash tag on ao3 so here's some data I gathered on the fics published this year!
a total of 171 works published/updated by 87 writers (+orphaned and anonymous authors). it brings the total fics in the tag up to 4991 fics, we're almost at 5000! this is a total of approximately 2,924,914 words, which is over 1.5 times the entire ASOIAF series lol (technically this is an overestimate because I didn't bother excluding word counts of longfic chapters published before 2024 whoops)
34 people published a coldflash fic for the first time this year! welcome, we are very happy to have you :)
14 people published fics in a language other than English (5 Russian, 2 French, 2 Spanish, 2 Chinese, 1 Hungarian, 1 Portuguese, 1 Czech)
16-ish cross over fics (obviously this ship has way more crossovers than usual because len goes over to the legends so I didn't count those, but I DID count those highschool/college/groupchat/watch the show au's where every arrowverse/dcu character is chucked into one fic as a crossover) (my post my rules lmao)
1 podfic, 1 fic set in someone else's fic, and 2 translated fics! the transformative works are getting transformed :D
8 gifted works. much generosity, very wow
most fics: 🥇Lady_Meg_666 with 20 fics 🥈SoftBoyDepot with 10 fics🥉BeauregardsTaxicab with 7 fics
highest word count: 🥇 BeauregardsTaxicab with a total of 519,382 words 🥈alex_jude with a total of 155,458 words🥉MK_Morreaux with a total of 95,957 words
longest fic (began prior to 2024): 🥇Arrowverse watching arrowverse with 381,534 words 🥈That Rare Arctic Thunderstorm with 233,199 words🥉Just for a Second with 118,757 words
longest fic (began 2024):🥇Mr. Blue Sky with 268,722 words 🥈There Are Some Strings on Me with 124,404 words 🥉 This Is What You Came For with 107,485 words
oldest fic writers: 🥇 moriavis first published 25 December 2015 and published 07 February this year 🥈coldflasher first published 28 September 2016 and published 17 December this year 🥉n_a_feathers first published 02 October 2016 and updated 12 May this year
funniest tags goes to "Canon is an Ecclesiastical term and I am a heretic," "Slow Burn but just the feelings part they're having sex the whole time," and "Barry Keeps Learning Things About Himself"
least funny tag goes to "no beta we die like Leonard snart" WHY WERE THERE TWO FICS WITH THIS STOP I'LL CRY
most use of taylor swift lyrics as titles goes to alex_jude with three fics. literally no one else is competing in this category lol
thank you to all the fic writers who kept me well fed this year love you <3

Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. -Proverbs 27:20
All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. -Ecclesiastes 1:8
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. - 1 Timothy 6:6-11

2. St. Simeon Stylites - literally lived on top of a pillar! Like imagine a big Greek Doric pillar he lived there for years he was one of the pillar saints ppl would bring him food to survive. He had a vision of "God" calling him to descend the pillar by jumping and he said GOD WOULDNT WANT ME TO KMS go away you're the devil
3. St. Joan of Arc - everyone knows her but she's super duper close to me I tell the church ladies about her
4. St. Hildegard of Bingen - first nun to ever write about an orgasm in such detail read her book Scivias she also painted things our talented queen
5. St. Benedict - Ora et labora guy! He speaks to me! Founder of western monasticism wrote the rule of st benedict wc is instruction for monks on how to behave like dont speak during meals etc etc in fact dont speak at all. speaking causes u to sin etc etc
6. St. Denis - martyred by beheading and after his time at the chopping block he got up and picked up his head and walked away. Absolute G
7. St. Audrey - I read about her bc I got the anglo saxon ecclesiastical history by Bede when i was like 14 she dies and her body doesn't corrupt and they decided to beatify her etc etc her name used to be Aethelthryth, she got a tumor on her neck, she says its gods punishment for all the necklaces she wore as a princess
8. St. John Paul II - I like him bc of what he says about the eastern orthodox churches, I love eastern orthodoxy its like a sister faith he says catholics and eastern orthodox are the two lungs of the church🫁
9. St. Michael Archangel - Catholicism's very own Levi Ackerman (and actually eastern orthodox too. we love our mikhail) . does that help. u know when the battle is almost done and Jon Snow is getting clapped Sansa comes in with her Vale knights smugly standing in the corner. Sansa'd be you. If you invoke Michael

The Wise Woman
1 The wise woman builds her house, But the woman of folly tears it down with her own hands. 2 He who walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh, But he who is devious in his ways despises Him. 3 In the mouth of the ignorant fool is a rod of lofty pride, But the lips of the wise will keep them. 4 Where no oxen are, the manger is clean, But much revenue comes by the strength of the ox. 5 A faithful witness will not lie, But a false witness breathes out lies. 6 A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding. 7 Leave the presence of a fool, As you have not known lips of knowledge there. 8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way, But the folly of fools is deceit. 9 Ignorant fools scoff at guilt, But among the upright there is favor. 10 The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not share its gladness.
11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed, But the tent of the upright will flourish. 12 There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. 13 Even in laughter the heart may be in pain, And the end of joy may be grief. 14 The one who turns back in his heart will be satisfied with his ways, But a good man will be satisfied with his. 15 The simple believes everything, But the prudent one discerns his steps.
16 A wise man fears and turns away from evil, But a fool gets angry and feels secure. 17 A quick-tempered man acts in folly, And a man of evil schemes is hated. 18 The simple inherit folly, But the prudent are crowned with knowledge. 19 The evil will bow down before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous. 20 The poor is hated even by his neighbor, But those who love the rich are many. 21 He who despises his neighbor sins, But how blessed is he who is gracious to the poor. 22 Will they not wander in error who devise evil? But lovingkindness and truth will be to those who devise good.
23 In all painful labor there is profit, But mere words from the lips lead only to want. 24 The crown of the wise is their riches, But the folly of fools is folly. 25 A truthful witness delivers souls, But he who breathes out lies is deceitful. 26 In the fear of Yahweh there is strong security, And his children will have refuge. 27 The fear of Yahweh is a fountain of life, To turn aside from the snares of death. 28 In a multitude of people is a king’s splendor, But in the dearth of people is a prince’s ruin. 29 He who is slow to anger has great discernment, But he who is quick-tempered raises up folly. 30 A tranquil heart is life to the body, But jealousy is rottenness to the bones. 31 He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who is gracious to the needy honors Him. 32 The wicked is thrust down by his own evil, But the righteous takes refuge even in his death. 33 Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding, But in the midst of fools it is merely made known. 34 Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people. 35 The king’s favor is toward a servant who acts insightfully, But his fury is toward him who acts shamefully. — Proverbs 14 | Legacy Standard Bible (LSB) Legacy Standard Bible Copyright ©2021 by The Lockman Foundation.
