The Similarities Between the Collapse of Ancient Rome and the American Empire
In examining the current state of the United States, historians and commentators have drawn striking parallels between the challenges faced by the modern American Empire and the ancient Roman Empire during its decline. These comparisons highlight significant areas of concern that could shape the future trajectory of the U.S.
**Economic issues** have been a common thread in the downfall of both empires. The Roman Empire grappled with high government spending, inflation, and wealth inequality, leading to a gradual debasement of its currency. Similarly, the United States is dealing with substantial national debt, rising inflation, and increasing wealth disparity, raising questions about the long-term stability of the dollar.
Another critical area of concern is **military overextension**. Rome found it increasingly difficult to defend its vast territories from Germanic tribes and other threats. In parallel, the U.S. has been engaged in prolonged conflicts abroad, which have strained military resources and eroded public support for overseas interventions.
**Political instability and corruption** have also plagued both empires. Rome's history is marked by periods of political turmoil, civil wars, and corrupt leadership. Today, the U.S. faces significant political polarization and growing concerns about corruption within its government institutions, contributing to a sense of instability and division.
The empires have both experienced **social and cultural changes** that have posed challenges. Rome struggled with the integration of diverse populations and shifting demographics. In the U.S., similar issues are evident as the country undergoes demographic shifts and engages in ongoing debates over immigration and cultural identity.
A decline in **civic engagement** is another shared feature. Both societies saw periods where citizens became less engaged in civic duties, focusing more on personal interests. This disengagement can undermine the societal cohesion and collective effort needed to address critical issues.
Finally, both empires have faced significant **external pressures**. Rome contended with invasions from various groups, particularly the Germanic tribes, which contributed to its downfall. The U.S. faces challenges from rising powers like China and ongoing geopolitical tensions, which could impact its global standing.
While these similarities are notable, it is essential to recognize the differences in governmental structure, technological capabilities, and global context between ancient Rome and the modern United States. Awareness of these parallels offers an opportunity for the U.S. to address these challenges proactively, adapting and maintaining its influence even as the global balance of power shifts.

What is G7? History of the International Group of Seven
Join me as we delve into the history and significance of the International Group of Seven (G7). From its origins to its current role in global politics, we explore the impact this group has had on international relations and economic policies.
so... G7... This group is made up of seven of the world's largest advanced economies, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Today we'll be exploring the history and significance of this influential group.
The G7 was first established in 1975 as an informal forum for leaders to discuss economic issues facing their countries. At that time, it was known as the G6 and included only six countries: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Canada joined in 1976 to form what is now known as the G7.
Over time, the G7 has expanded its focus beyond just economic issues to include discussions on a wide range of topics such as climate change, security issues and global health crises. The group meets annually to discuss these issues and coordinate their policies.
One significant event that helped establish the G7's role in global politics was its response to the 1979 oil crisis. At that time, oil prices had skyrocketed due to political instability in Iran. The G7 leaders met in Tokyo that year and agreed to coordinate their energy policies to stabilize prices. This marked a turning point for international cooperation on economic issues.
Another important moment for the G7 came in 1991 when it played a key role in ending apartheid in South Africa. The group imposed economic sanctions on the country, which helped to pressure the government to end its discriminatory policies. This demonstrated the G7's ability to use economic leverage to achieve political goals.
In recent years, the G7 has faced criticism for its lack of diversity and representation. Some have argued that it should include more countries from the Global South and emerging economies. In response, the G20 was established in 1999 as a forum for a broader range of countries to discuss economic issues.
Despite these criticisms, the G7 remains an important forum for global cooperation on economic and political issues. Its members represent a significant portion of the world's economy and have significant influence over global policies.
That's all for today's episode on the International Group of Seven. I hope you enjoyed learning about this influential group and its history. Join me next time as we explore another topic in depth.

Kids Die... Why we don't care
There are many thoughts I've had about my lack of sensitivity to suffering over the years. Starving children's commercial is a nuisance on tv not an interest. Natural disasters occur and I'm interested, for like a few weeks. I'm not a heartless person, and my awareness of a need for increased sensitivity for lack in others lives is a starting point for progression I believe, but how did I get here?
There are many things we  are trained to do in society. Do well in school, get a good job, start a business even, get married, have a family. There are many things businesses influence us to do. Spend money on clothes, outings, toys, random trinkets and decorations. We are even told that if we do these things we are better than others. But, the reality of it all, we NEED very little as human beings. Food, water, clothing, shelter, a sense of purpose, love. These things are essential in human growth and development. But, somehow our wants have become needs so much so that we no longer know how to identify GENUINE needs in our lives or the lives of others.
I thought this was going to be a complicated topic but its not. We don't know what needs are anymore. We strive for things that don't satisfy because essentially, they are not needed. We don't recognize the benefits of assisting others with needs, why? Because we NEED too much. We are never satisfied. How can a person who feels like they are constantly missing something feel comfortable giving to those who have genuine needs unmet?  We give grudgingly, or sparingly, if at all.
This is one perspective on why kids die... and we don't care.
