One of the most important amenities at Acropolis Gardens is the state-of-the-art video intercom system, designed to provide residents with an added layer of security. In a bustling city like New York, peace of mind is crucial, and this modern system allows residents to easily screen visitors before granting access to the building. Whether receiving deliveries or hosting guests, the video intercom offers an extra level of safety, ensuring that residents feel secure in their homes.
2. In-Building Laundry Facilities: Convenience at Your Fingertips
In today’s fast-paced world, convenience is key, and Acropolis Gardens delivers with its in-building laundry facilities. No need to haul laundry to a nearby laundromat or worry about finding time to visit one—residents can take care of their laundry right within the comfort of their own building. The availability of on-site laundry facilities not only saves time but also makes daily life more efficient, freeing up residents to enjoy more of what Astoria has to offer.
3. Beautifully Landscaped Communal Gardens: A Tranquil Urban Oasis

These garden spaces are meticulously maintained, providing a serene environment where residents can relax, read a book, or simply enjoy the outdoors. Whether it's a morning coffee in the garden or a quiet evening stroll, the communal green spaces add a touch of nature to city living.
4. Pet-Friendly Environment: Welcoming Your Furry Friends
Acropolis Gardens is a pet-friendly community, recognizing that for many residents, pets are an important part of their family. With flexible pet policies, residents can enjoy the companionship of their pets without having to worry about restrictive rules. For families with young children, seniors, or anyone who appreciates convenience, the elevator is an invaluable feature.
6. Flexible Rental and Ownership Options: Catering to Diverse Lifestyles
Acropolis Gardens stands out by offering flexible rental and ownership options, accommodating a wide range of financial situations and lifestyle preferences. Residents can choose between renting a unit or purchasing one, with favorable ownership options like co-purchasing, allowing multiple parties to invest in a property together. These flexible arrangements make Acropolis Gardens accessible to a broader demographic, from young professionals and families to retirees looking for a secure place to settle.
7. Shared Community Spaces: Fostering a Sense of Belonging
Beyond its individual units, Acropolis Gardens places a strong emphasis on community living. The shared communal spaces, such as the garden areas, foster a sense of connection and neighborly interaction. Residents can socialize, organize community events, or simply enjoy the sense of belonging that comes from living in a well-integrated, welcoming environment. This emphasis on community helps create a unique atmosphere that distinguishes Acropolis Gardens from other residential complexes.
8. Proximity to Astoria’s Attractions: Convenience Meets Culture

Situated in the culturally rich and lively neighborhood of Astoria, the complex offers residents easy access to an array of dining, shopping, and entertainment options. From world-class restaurants and trendy cafes to parks, museums, and shopping centers, everything you need is just a short walk or subway ride away. i’ve said it before but i’ll say it again, if your “accessible” bathroom requires going to a different floor to get to, it’s not accessible

There's nothing like the audiobook experience of driving down the road going into hysterics over a 150-year-old novel.
#so it turns out that for some reason i have access to a selection of audible audiobooks#they seem to be all classics which is just fine with me#it gives me access to more obscure classics that my library doesn't have#read by professional actors instead of some monotone guy on librivox#(some librivox narrators are great unfortunately the one reading trollope isn't one of them)#and anyway audio is turning out to be a great way to experience 'doctor thorne'#if you zone out during the long and absurdly wordy passages it's okay#and then the dialogue (aka: the good stuff) can be elevated to high comedy levels by a good actor#the election speeches had me in stitches#especially since they're frequently interrupted by hecklers#which i'm sure plays much better in audio than on the page#also the experience with trollope is once again turning out to be#slogging through several chapters of extremely dry scene-setting#with only a few glimmers of interesting characters to keep me interested#until suddenly i'm deeply invested in these people's silly small-town drama#and gasping out 'mr. moffatt did what??'#also i dearly love when someone i expect to be a bland stereotype turns out to be a character with personality#miss dunstable is my favorite character so far#i fully expected the 'rich heiress that the hero's supposed to marry instead of the poor heroine'#to just be snobby and rude#and instead she's so much fun!#genuine friends with the hero but zero romantic interest in him#very witty very sensible#i'm less than halfway through so i don't know if opinions will change#but for right now i'm glad to have the audiobook to push through the slog chapters#(what was the point of the dinner party scene?? you literally stopped three plotlines dead in their tracks)#(to show a character going to a boring party with characters who have no effect on the story)#because i need to see how this story plays out#doctor thorne#anthony trollope

also more codelyokoposting but I really really dig XANA as a villain. It's not a person with a complex background that led them down the path of evil, it's not a morally grey character you sympathize with but condemn. It's a powerful AI capable of controlling almost anything in the real world. It doesn't have a face or a body, we only know it for its symbol and for the monsters it controls in the virtual world. It's willing not just to kill people through various methods (poisoning, drowning, car crash, fucking space lasers too?) but also Earth as a whole (it tried to blow up a NUCLEAR PLANT and crash two trains with toxic chemicals in them). And we don't even know why it does this, at least not for now. It may not even have a particular reason, just some sort of virus or malware in the form of an AI that seeks nothing but destruction without any goals in mind. This "pure evil" characteristic doesn't come off as childish, like in some children cartoons, it's just kind of scary to think that such an incomprehensible and destructive force exists, almost feels like a natural disaster

May we have an oven tour?
My oven is somewhat wheelchair accessible but not accessible to someone with upper limb weakness as well so I’m super curious now that I know that not only do you do a lot of baking but you also have a sci-fi oven!
Mine is kinda messy right now, I need to clean the glass stovetop before I cook again, but this is the oven I have! I got a new fridge and oven with some of my SSDI backpay since I got nearly two years of it all at once last summer.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-30-in-Burner-Element-Free-Standing-Double-Oven-Electric-Range-in-Stainless-Steel-with-Convection-and-Air-Fry-JBS86SPSS/313240870
Tumblr media
The top oven is a regular oven with a broiler, it's a pretty good size for most things beyond like... a turkey or a tall loaf of bread. The bottom oven has convection and air fry. I use the air fry function pretty often and convection is good for cookies and stuff. It's big enough fit a turkey or a large ham and tall bread type things.
Tumblr media
The glass stove top is REALLY nice. The front two burners have two different "sizes" in the sense that you can choose to heat only the small inner ring of the burner or the whole thing out to the outer ring. I use that function all the time. I haven't really used the "warming" burner in the back center, I'm a bit annoyed that it's not a full burner so I can't have 5 things going at once if I'm trying to cook a big meal. But then again, I shouldn't be cooking with 5 things going at once anyways lmao.

The elevator in my ADA “accessible” building is broken. It has been for days. No word on when it’ll be fixed.
The fire alarms just went off, briefly, then stopped. There is no evacuation plan. Today is a bad pain day, it’s raining and I had to go grocery shopping (including going up and down some steps) with my in home care worker earlier. I could maybe get to and down the stairs by myself. Maybe. I don’t know if I could get my partner’s cat out with me (I would do my damn best though).
I have neighbors who also are wheelchair users, some who are in heavy powerchairs who live on the upper floors. Me and those neighbors haven’t spoken much outside of basic pleasantries by the mailboxes over the years— I think we’re all housebound. We are effectively strangers but we have shared cries for help. I know their screams and they know mine. Intimate terror.
The alarms have stopped and as of right now I am safe. My neighbors are safe.
I’m focusing on trying to catch my breath and lower my heart rate back to a safe range. I can’t stress enough how traumatic it is to be disabled in an inaccessible world.

where do you guys think jack lives?
it seems to be on helios, instead of someplace planet-side, but where on helios?
is his house above his office? is it in some other part of the station only accessible by the bus system? is it on the highest floor or is it with all the other apartments in the residential area of the space station?
im replaying TSP rn and i came to the realization that helios was much much more an entire city that i thought and now im curious on where everyone else hcs that hes living

In my city, four new elevators and other ♿️ accessability features are being installed at a busy, major train station, thanks to this effort. As I have difficulty walking down (yes, down!) stairs, this makes a major difference to me and so many others!
💙

what karmic crime have I committed. yesterday I had to go to the bank to verify my identity for my new checking account because it got a fraud alert within 15 mins of me opening it. whatever. that took 5x longer than it needed to because we sat on hold with their fraud department for half an hour but it got fixed ok fine. then I accidentally transferred money to my new checking account twice and overdrew the first by $900 LOL, which I found out when my card declined at a coffee shop this morning. tried to log into my new account to transfer money back only to discover i've been locked out AGAIN. I call, spend 45 mins on hold for them to say I need to go to a bank irl again. AWESOME
and then just now my partner and I get told that the elevator has broken down in the building we're moving into on friday and it might not be fixed by then. we're going to be on the fifth floor. WOOHOO. and the check for 1st month rent and security is apparently delayed in the mail because of flooding so I hope they let us move in lmfao

ELEVATED ACCESS CAN HELP YOU ACCESS HEALTHCARE!
Just so y'all are in the know-
One of the people I follow, the fabulous @aviatrix-ash wants to spread the word about a project that aims to help people get medical care by providing free transportation.
They want to counteract the push to make abortion and gender-affirming care less accessible.
From the Elevated Access website:
We are a non-profit organization that enables people to access healthcare by providing flights on private planes at no cost. Our volunteer pilot network transports clients seeking abortion or gender-affirming care across the United States.
Most people in the United States are within thirty miles of an air strip; at least one small airport with a single runway. The aviation community has been volunteering to provide “angel flights” for cancer patients, victims of natural disasters, and domestic violence survivors for decades. Unfortunately, today there is a growing need for folks to access additional types of assistance. Individuals are facing challenges to their bodily autonomy all over this country. And for those seeking health services, it can mean days of travel, time and wages lost from work, time away from families where they are the primary caregiver, and other significant financial investments. We don’t like that we need to exist, but we know that we can help.
Whether it’s abortion or gender-affirming care, Elevated Access is here to ease the burden and provide transportation for folks to receive life-saving healthcare.
Connect with Elevated Access here:
Or hear more about them in their own words:
youtube
Please reblog or share with others who may benefit from this sort of assistance or who are in a place to help support this project!
Stay strong and don't lose hope, we will get through this.
