Of course I'm using FFXIV cookbook lore for fanfics. What? Also it annoys a moogle so Estinien should be happy too

According to the FFXIV official cookbook, Hi-Elixir and X-potion are basically sugar and alcohol bombs. So when your WoL is using a potion, it means they're getting crunk as fuck to beat the shit out of whatever's in front of them.
Not to mention they're not sipping that shit. You press the button and it's gone.
...further implications is that this means alchemists are just bartenders creating fucked up and unethical cocktails for people everywhere.

honestly it would have been better topped with soda water. it tasted like a really intense sweet-tart. heavy on the tart.

My fourth FFXIV cookbook recipe, Trapper's Quiche! I knew a little about what quiche was, kinda like a breakfast pie, but I'd never attempted one. Black Shroud food appeals to me a lot because it has mushrooms. It can't go wrong with mushrooms.
Next year, if I find as many morels as I did this year, I'd like to try them in this! Sadly, morel season is over in my area for now.
This recipe felt very much like "trust the process" to me. The filling was very, very liquid-y, and it scared me a bit to just dump it on a pie crust and hope for the best, but it firmed up into a very nice, fluffy texture! It also calls for gruyere, which made me feel exceptionally fancy.
I had to make one substitution. Despite my searching, I couldn't find Thai basil. The closest, but not perfect, suggestion was blending basil with mint, and it tasted pretty darn good. My friend, who has a garden, has planted some. Whether this was my influence or he was going to plant it regardless, I'll have to ask, lol! And steal some, of course.
This is another recipe I could see myself making again and again. Mushrooms in a cheesy, creamy egg fluff? Yes please!

Pommes Frites helped me make the royal eggs recipe from the Ultimate FFXIV Cookbook, including the English...er...Ishgardian muffins!
I always love Victoria Rosenthal's recipes and highly recommend her books for all levels of cooking. She has great tips on keeping the Hollandaise sauce from breaking and getting a nice consistency on the poached eggs for this recipe.

If you have a craving for stews or meats seared to perfection, you could do much worse than having Claire prepare a meal for you. Making a variety of traditional Ala Mhigan and Garlean recipes adapted to life in Gyr Abania, the normally stoic mercenary can’t hide the smile on her face as she indulges in one of her favorite hobbies.

I needed food for a get together tomorrow so I made the Skybuilder's Stew (chicken veggie stew with a creamy sauce mixed in) from the ffxiv cookbook tonight, and happy to report another great success, this cookbook is truly excellent!
#I initially got the ffxiv cookbook because I love ffxiv and was like haha cool tie in#but no it's a legit incredibly solid cookbook that accomplishes the truly respectable task#of having most meals be something someone new to cooking could make and truly enjoy as is#while also being very strong bases for more experienced cooks to build off of if they want to#(and again they don't need to if they don't want to because so far everything is delicious as is!!)#if you enjoy cooking or enjoy ffxiv or even better enjoy both you can't go wrong with it

"I would have helped, but Kelas'ra doesn't seem to appreciate it when I bring food into his cottage."
"The last time you brought 'food' into my home, the bread was dense enough to be used as a doorstop!"
"Come now, just because something is dense doesn't mean it's bad. We like you, after all, don't we?
"...I will snap you in half like a twig."
Lots of holiday baking this year! I channeled my inner Kelas'ra to teach myself how to make fancy strawberry roses and a HQ shimmery rolanberry sauce. And it gets to happen again come next month as well~

The first recipe I tried from the FFXIV cookbook: Skybuilder's Stew! It's labelled as an Easy recipe, and it's stew, so I thought it sounded perfect.
I'm slow at ingredient prep, so I spent a little more time on the prep phase than someone else might, but when cooking, it goes fairly fast and is mostly hands off.
I made sure to have all my ingredients prepped, but I did make a novice mistake the first time I made it that I corrected for future attempts: cook onion first, then cook garlic at the end. It isn't specified, and I didn't think about it until I'd tossed them both in together.
Oops!
Despite that, it came out well, and subsequent attempts have been even better. The daikon radish surprised me with a bitter flavor, as it's the first time I've cooked with it, but it adds something interesting as a result. I also found through searching that they're more bitter towards the tip, so that might help if someone doesn't like bitter flavors.
I've never made a cream base before, but it came together easily, and it's delicious! It reminds me of chowder. Through a happy accident this week, I forgot to get milk and used a half-heavy cream, half-water mixture and it's even MORE creamy!
It's a strong first showing from a book that could have just phoned it in for people who would buy anything related to their fandom, and it made me eager to make more recipes.
