Carter Sherman at The Guardian:
Awash in soft, peach-colored light, the infant yawns, sticks her thumb in her mouth and flutters her eyes at the camera. As the camera pulls away from her, an umbilical cord and the fleshy tunnel surrounding the infant comes into focus. This isn’t a newborn baby: it’s a fetus in a disembodied womb. “This is Olivia,” a British female voice narrates. “Though she has yet to greet the outside world, she has already completed an amazing journey.” Say hello to “Meet Baby Olivia”, an animated video made by an American anti-abortion group that purports to depict humans’ embryonic and fetal development in an alleged effort to convert young people to the anti-abortion cause. The video – or something very close to it – will be required viewing for public school students in two states, with several more potentially on the way.
Last year, North Dakota became the first state in the nation to pass a law mandating that schools screen “Meet Baby Olivia” or a similar video. This year, Tennessee enacted its own “Meet Baby Olivia” law, requiring that “Meet Baby Olivia” or something like it be shown as part of schools’ sex education curriculum. So far in 2024, legislators in at least 10 other states have introduced bills that would require schools to show students “Meet Baby Olivia” or, in language that appears repeatedly throughout the bills, a similar “high-quality, computer-generated rendering or animation” that shows “every stage of human development inside the uterus, noting significant markers in cell growth and organ development for every significant marker of pregnancy until birth”. Including Tennessee’s legislation, bills in at least five of the states cite “Meet Baby Olivia” by name.
Classrooms are a burgeoning front in the post-Roe v Wade abortion wars, as conservative activists have increasingly intertwined their attacks on abortion with their distaste for sex ed that discusses alternatives to premarital abstinence. But medical professionals have accused the anti-abortion group behind “Meet Baby Olivia” of spreading propaganda and even misinformation in order to convert young people to their cause.
Seven of the 12 states where the bills have been introduced or passed ban almost all abortions. So far this year, state legislatures have considered at least 135 sex-ed bills – a record number, according to a CNN analysis. Sixty per cent of them would restrict sex ed in some way. Live Action has denied accusations that any sentence of “Meet Baby Olivia” is inaccurate. “‘Baby Olivia’ isn’t about abortion. It never says the word ‘abortion’,” said Noah Brandt, Live Action’s vice-president of communications. “‘Baby Olivia’ is an important place for states like Tennessee and North Dakota to turn to next, to continue to do work to educate on both biology and life, because they’ve already protected life so now it’s about teaching people when life begins and to respect that.”
A quiet success story
The emergence of the “Meet Baby Olivia” legislation comes at a precarious time for the anti-abortion movement. Since the overturning of Roe, support for abortion rights has mounted even in conservative states. Some Republicans have tried to downplay their opposition to the procedure or even supported efforts to protect it, in a sharp departure from decades of marching in lock step with the anti-abortion movement. But as the anti-abortion movement flounders, the “Meet Baby Olivia” bills are a quiet success story. Abortion opponents overturned Roe by spending years pushing for state-level abortion restrictions; if a restriction was successful in one state, lawmakers in other states would copy-paste its language and introduce their own versions. This strategy gnawed away access to abortion. In the “Meet Baby Olivia” bills, observers see a similar strategy at play – and evidence of mission creep.
“Anti-abortion, anti-sexual and [anti]-reproductive health movements have been focusing on other areas and expanding their scope in terms of what is relevant to them and what they’re working on,” said Kimya Forouzan, principal policy associate of state issues at the Guttmacher Institute, which supports abortion rights. Although Guttmacher tracks restrictions on sexual and reproductive health, Forouzan said that she had never before seen legislation quite like the “Meet Baby Olivia” bills.
[...] In at least two states, West Virginia and Iowa, “Meet Baby Olivia” bills passed one legislative chamber, but both state legislatures have now shuttered for the year. Most of the legislatures that introduced “Meet Baby Olivia” bills have either ended their 2024 sessions or are set to do so in the next few weeks. Compared to the rest of the country, the states that have introduced “Meet Baby Olivia” bills this year – which also include Georgia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina – have less comprehensive sex-ed policies, according to Siecus: Sex Ed for Social Change, a decades-old organization that issues best practice guidelines for comprehensive sex ed. (None of the states garnered more than a C grade in the Siecus ranking system.) Most states do not require public school sex ed to be medically accurate, culturally appropriate or unbiased, according to Guttmacher. Only four states say that sex ed cannot promote religion.
The Guardian reports on the disturbing trend of red states pushing new bills that require the showing of the propagandistic "Baby Olivia" video by anti-abortion extremist group Live Action in classrooms as part of the right-wing war on sex ed in schools.

Employee File #72566
Name: Roe Marin
Age: 22 y/o
DOB: October 8th, XXXX
Gender: Female (she/her)
Species: Inkling
Current Title: EVP 999
Long-time employee of Grizzco, Marin has shown time and time again her loyalty and skill to the company. Joining the company at a young age along side her (adopted) brother, Atlas Marin, when the company was also still young, she practically grew up with the company as it became the corporation we know and love(?) today. Ms. Marin currently resides in Inkopolis Square working for the Inkopolis Square branch of Grizzco, though, she has been asked to travel to Grizzco’s two other branches to help out from time to time.
Marin is dedicated to her work as a salmon runner. With her time and experience, she is now considered one of the best in the company, with many younger employees looking up to her as a role model. Despite that, Marin has kept her heart of gold, not letting her rank go to her head and is always around to lend a helping hand or just to make a fellow co-worker smile.
Well, that’s a little formal… Hello! I’m Roe, and I’m a representative of Grizzco Industries. I’d love to talk about my line of work if you’re curious! Let me reel you in… oh that was stupid… with helping you, wether it’s with those fish, or about the opportunities we offer here at Grizzco!

okay it's a couple days late but now that you've mentioned it i can't stop thinking about it: what DID happen during morgana and ryuji's sushi date in conflagration?
They have to be sneaky about it, of course. No decent sushi place will let him stay for longer than it would take for Morgana's head to pop out of his bag before kindly but firmly escorting him out.
That's fine, though. This place is his favorite; he's been coming here for years now, since he joined the clinic just two stops down the line. It's small, never too crowded, and cute as all hell. The selection varies with the seasons, so he knows the fish is always fresh.
He's always thought, in the back of his mind, deep down in the box where he put everything else about Akira, that it would have been nice to take him here for a date. Tangle their legs beneath the table, split a parfait at the end. Fight over the fatty tuna.
Instead of dark hair and a wicked smile across from him he's got dark fur and sharp blue eyes beside him, tucked into the corner of his booth where he can oh-so-stealthily sneak slices of fish into the bag.
The joys of modern technology, too-- with his phone out and one earbud in, it doesn't matter if it looks like he's talking to himself.
"Aaah," Morgana says rapturously as Ryuji hands the next piece down. "I haven't had a meal this good in-- well, who's to say! Is there any salmon roe coming up?"
"I'll keep an eye out." The flounder disappears from between his fingertips; Ryuji casually wipes them on a napkin and snags a nearby piece of mackerel sushi. "You doin' alright down there? I think I can empty out this sauce dish and put some water in it."
A moment while Morgana swallows. "That's very thoughtful! You've clearly done some growing up while I've been away, Ryuji." The eyes looking back up at him are rimmed with frost, but squint up in the same familiar smile. He can't help but smile back. He's missed the cattiness (no pun intended) that he can look back on fondly after almost a decade of distance. "I'm good for now, but you can get me a bottle of water from the konbini when we leave."
"Sure thing."
There's another stretch of quiet between them. Mackerel, salmon roe, shrimp. Some maguro for him, some maguro for Mona.
He wants to ask. He doesn't want to ask. He wants Mona to just tell him. Even though he's grown up, he never figured out the best way to do verbal subterfuge.
Just when he goes to open his mouth, though, Morgana clears his throat. When Ryuji looks down, he sees Morgana shake his head.
"I know what you want to ask," he says, "and I'm not going to talk about it. Not yet. I'm sorry," he adds, which is both surprising and-- and what? Ryuji doesn't really know. "But I've been trying to get him back here for so long, and I don't want to have to lie to him when you bring me back. I don't want him to want to run again, he's been running for so long."
He sighs, something that should be too long and too deep for those tiny lungs. It's full of sorrow. "He's tired. I'm tired too, but I'll never let him know that. I'm the hope of all humanity, you know-- I can keep going for the both of us as long as he needs. So--" abruptly he's Mona again, all steel spine and authority. "Don't ask me about him, or where we've been. But tell me about you! What have you been eating to make you get that big?! Don't you know that phantom thieves are supposed to be able to sneak around without getting stuck in windows?!"
"Are you calling me fat?!"
#filed under:#ask meme#conflagration#morgana is absolutely calling him fat (not)#no when ryuji grew up he also grew out#he's no captain america but he do be havin some shoulder to waist ratio reminiscent of a dorito#also forearms.#ryuji is so offended at being judged for losing his girlish figure

As the god of stories, I take my job seriously. Today's story is
Loka Tattur
Back in ye olden days, there was this farmer, ok? And for whatever reason, he'd made a bet with a jotun. Bad idea. Then, he lost the bet. Also a bad idea. The prize? His son. ANOTHER BAD IDEA.
The jotunn says they'll be back soon, so, Mr. Farmer calls on the gods. Obviously, first, he's going to call on Odin. Makes sense right?
Odin makes an entire field of grain grow overnight, and disguises the boy as a single itty-bitty grain resting on an axe in the middle of the field. Now, for those non-farmers out there, axes don't belong in fields like this. The jotunn brushes their hand against the axe, and the boy gets scared, so Odin calls him back to him. Odin sends him back to his parents, saying the deal has been kept. NOPE.
Then Hoenir is called upon when the jotunn returns, knowing they've been deceived. Hoenir has 7 swans fly over the farm, turning the boy into a feather in the center of one of the swan's heads. The jotunn catches this swan, and tears its head off. The boy is afraid, and rightfully so, as his feather is caught in the jotun's mouth. So Hoenir calls him back, returning him to his parents, once again claiming the deal to be met.
The jotun returns again, growing increasingly frustrated. That's where I come in. The farmer calls upon me, and I don't let deals fall through. I just twist them a little bit.
So, I notice the farmer has a boat, as well as a boathouse, which gave me an idea. I tell him to fix an iron stake to the top of the inside of the doorway. I ask to borrow his boat, and I row out and drop the anchor. After trying all night, I catch a flounder, and decide to turn the child into a grain in a single roe of the fish, returning the fish to the sea. That's when I see the jotun, standing on the beach.
"Where have you been?"
FISHING, YOU DUMBASS. CAN'T YOU SEE?
But I didn't say that. I invite him over, but tell him he can only come aboard if he can get himself over here, because I'm just so tired from being up all night and can't row back to shore right now. So, he takes the bait. (haha)
He jumps into the boat, and we fish together, and while I catch nothing, he catches 3 fish, and the last one. Is the flounder. I ask to have it, becuase, y'know, I haven't caught anything all night.
He starts counting the roe, so I call the kid back, and have him sit behind me so the jotun can't see him. When we get back, I send the child to his parents, and the jotun sees. He runs after the boy, but his head slams into the spike.
He doesn't die just yet, so I decide to cut off one of his legs, hoping gravity will finish the job. Nope. The wound grows together. I try again, with the other leg. The wound also grows together.
So I try one last time, and throw a few sticks and pebbles into the gap. It works.
The child is safe, the jotun is dead.
The End

Guys. The February Doldrums have been hitting me hard. I have been hanging on by my fingernails. I am so desperate for spring...

Tiffany Aching’s Guide to Being a Witch // The Wee Free Men // Hat Full of Sky // Wintersmith
I got Tiffany Aching’s Guide to Being a Witch as a gift last Christmas but just now finally got around to reading it. I’m always a sucker for “in-universe guides”, especially guides where the characters are writing silly little margin notes and this was a delightful example of that. Really genuinely brought me joy. This probably doesn’t really deserve a queer marker but then I was given an entire section on Geoffrey, officially confirmed to be a he/they witch, and like. My heart. Thank you Rhianna Pratchett. I owe you my heart and happiness in this moment. She saw people trying to claim her father would be transphobic and beating them over the head with this
And then after reading that I naturally had to go back and reread Wee Free Men which meant I had to reread Hat Full of Sky because I wanted to read about the other apprentice witches and then I had to reread Wintersmith because I loved Miss Treason’s plot… currently working my way through I Shall Wear Midnight.
Though tbh I don't know why they messed around with the original cover art for these books. Discworld books are often a bit of a miss for me with cover art but man the original art of the Feegles? Absolutely peak for the series in general imho but it's surprisingly hard to find large versions of them in a standard google image search

Baba Yaga’s Assistant
A fun little graphic novel about a girl who is dissatisfied with her father’s new wife and her new sister-in-law and decides to run away to become Baba Yaga’s assistant. I’m always a sucker for Baba Yaga stories, and this one gives it a fun twist while still getting to be tricksy and cunning and little dark.

Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish v3
Li Yu continues to do his best to help (and romance!!) his prince as best he can as a fish with the occasional chance to turn into a human! He is trying to be so sneaky and not freak Prince Jing out by making him think he's a yao or something! Prince Jing is trying to very respectfully not show that he is totally aware of what's going on and would also really like to be seduced by his fish yao please and thank you. They begin to sort some things out in this volume which is an exciting development!
(Wasn’t prepared for the fish-based mpreg! That was a fun shock in an actual published novel! But you know what, I still am loving this series and I love their little fish babies who are suffering, SUFFERING over needing to adapt to being human, and I can’t wait for book 4. This anticipation is one of the few things getting me through February...)

The Girls Who Went Away: The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children for Adoption in the Decade Before Roe v. Wade
A nonfiction account of girls and women who experienced unwanted/unplanned pregnancies Roe v. Wade and who were sent away to homes to have their children and surrender them to adoption. I’ve heard stories about children were were adopted before, but this is my first time really reading about the mothers’ side of things. This entire book is made primarily out of interviews, and it was very interesting, really highlighting the trauma involved. These women were often given little to know sexual education, and forced into positions where they really felt they had no choice but to surrender their child. The book got a little long in the tooth and felt repetitive after a while, but I’m glad to have read it.

Lackadaisy v1
This is a comic series I’ve been meaning to read forever, the art is absolutely stunning! Set during the American Prohibition, the stories follows a group of characters all connected to / employed by the Lackadaisy speakeasy and their bumbling efforts to keep the floundering business open and running. The violence place cheerifully on the fluctuating line of Looney Tunes slapstick and oh-yikes-there-are-actual-repercussions-here. Looking forward to reading volume 2.

My Boyfriend is a Dog v1
This one I picked up on impulse and was rather disappointed in. I’m not quite sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this. This was very… meh. It was Fine. Little slice-of-life comedy sketches. It’s charming enough, but had basically no substance.

My Dress-Up Darling v 5, 6, 7
I’m no longer buying volumes of this, but I have kept reading it through my libby account and My Dress-Up Darling continues to be charming. It’s about two classmates, Marin and Wakana, who have become friends over a mutual interest in creating cosplay costumes (Marin’s interest coming from a passionate love for the characters and a desire to dress up, and Wakana’s coming from an interest in costume creation) and it’s fun to see both the costume creation, technical side of things as well as how their silly relationship is slowly growing closer and closer. It sometimes comes across as rather stagnant and meh, but sometimes really managing to reach some delightful peaks.

Scum Villain Self-Saving System v1
But CarriageLamp, I hear you say, didn’t you just finish reading this series? Like didn't you read the final book in November? Didn’t you read this actual book less than a year ago? To which I say, what are you a cop??
February has been. such a February. I need this.
Anyway, yes, I have reread the first book of Scum Villain because I, much like Shen Qingqiu, am very stressed and desperately needed cute, fluffy, white lotus Binghe to feel better...

The Times I Knew I Was Gay
A graphic novel autobiography of the author coming to terms with her sexuality and gradually coming out. It was well-done and authentic, I appreciated both the art and the humour in it, though it also didn’t really stick with me in any meaningful way. I was glad to have read it, and I’m sure to some people it would be a very impactful read, but I mostly just found it a reasonably enjoyable comic to have checked out of the library and now that I’ve returned it I don’t have much to say about it.

so, the golden clock is actually the last thing i need to achieve Perfection! besides having babies i guess. my greenhouse is full of ancient fruit and banana trees, with six iridium sprinklers- all the ancient fruit is going to be wine, and the bananas are for jelly. i also have six fish ponds, full of midnight carp, sea cucumbers, midnight squid, flounder, octopus, and stingray. i turn the roe into aged roe and sell anything else they make (besides the dragon teeth and cinder shards!). i don't like having to replant the starfruit, so i'm not really bothering with it... i know it would be more efficient, but it's work, and i play for fun more than daily farm maintenance. i'm thinking about getting a blobfish fish pond this winter for the chance at pearls?
Oh I dunno how to help you if you're not going the Starfruit route - that's the only way I have the numbers memorized for.
A pearl only sells for 2,500g which means you'll need two thousand of those to make 5mil. You'll at max get one per day, and that's only if you're insanely lucky. Obviously you have other things going on, I'm just saying.
It sounds like you already have in mind what you want to do? If you don't want to replant the Starfruit and prefer take the slower methods, then all there really is to do is keep doing the same thing every day until you make it to 5mil.

At times, my friends call me a moaner.
At times, they are right.
One particular thing I like to constantly complain about, is the lack of decent Japanese food in London. I’m not talking about Itsu and Wasabi or even Wagamama. That’s fake Japanese which is something to offend as much as drinking beer out of wine glasses. When people ask me why it disgusts my sensibilities so, I fall back to the time tested remark, it just isn’t something that is done.
So if you want to try some real Japanese food in London, you have something of a quandary at hand. On account of it being either obscenely hard to get in (Sushi Testsu), or just unashamedly not pretending to be that authentic (but thankfully still good (Temaki). There is of course the stalwart I like, Kiku, although inflation is pushing that price up a bit too much (50% is kind of a lot). Then there is the place which has a bit too much excitement and a rather rude owner (Jugemu) but much as I like the food there, I do prefer a certain modicum of service. So in leafy, rather pleasant and much too expensive Hampstead, is a small Japanese restaurant staffed by native staff.
Tori kara, seasoned and sliced chicken, deep fried in batter served with Ponzu sauce. This was rather crispy, oil free and nicely complemented by the ponzu sauce. If I could level some criticism, it would be that the meat wasn’t as juicy as I would have preferred, as I suspect they didn’t use leg meat for this. No matter, it still made me happy.
Shiso maki, grilled skewer of shiso leaf and pork rolls with Teriyaki sauce. Alright, if fairly nondescript. Minced pork balls wrapped in a spiced leaf, although the shiso just wasn’t strong enough to make a noticeable difference.
Tsukune, grilled skewer of chicken meatballs with Yakitori sauce. Crispy on the outside, meltingly delicious inside. Something to try again.
Negitoro, Chopped Fatty Tuna with Yellow Pickled roll. Meaty and filling, you could also be forgiven for thinking this was some type of minced meat. Instead, clear deep tuna flavour shone through.
Take, today’s 10 piece chef’s selection. Flounder, tuna, salmon, fish roe, prawn, mackerel, octopus, yellow tail, red snapper, squid. Great, even if I have had better elsewhere. What let this down was the temperature control. The fish and the rice seemed to be rather warm where as I prefer a slightly more chilled sushi to highlight the taste of the seafood set off with vinegar rice.
Yakinasu, grilled aubergine with Bonito flakes. Here, I demonstrate one my many failings. An example of not getting what I wanted. Although an accurate description, I had thought (and hoped) that this would be similar to the grilled aubergine with miso paste I’ve had on top. This instead was lacking the heavier flavouring we sought. On the plus side, the texture was good.
Gyutan, grilled skewer of ox tongue with salt. I do not know why more places do not offer this. It was deliciously chewy and bursting with umami. Of the many off cuts I would eat in yakitori joints back in Japan, ox tongue and chicken heart were my favourites. Although, I didn’t see the latter on the menu.
Gindara, grilled black cod marinated in white miso served with ginger. They had gone a little too easy on the miso here, as the taste was not as deep as I expected and preferred. It was decent though. Then again, perhaps it is my fault for having this previously at western Japanese joints, which tend to slather the cod perhaps overzealously.
Buta Shouga, pan-fried sliced pork with ginger sauce and spicy Miso served from hot pan. Great with caramelized onion as you got caramelized miso and rather addictive as you picked up the small onions in which all the pork juice had coagulated.
Una Kyu, grilled eel with cucumber and sesame roll. In my desperate search for eel in London, I couldn’t resist this when I saw it on the menu. I would often dream of this, as during my first residency in Japan, a kind friend treated me to unagi. That Changed My Life. This poor eel did not do that justice. Instead, wrapped up in rice, it was rather sadly done as it seemed that being wrapped up in rice made the eel strangely bouncy and robbed it of its flavour.
Yama Gobo, pickled mountain burdock with sesame. Crunchy and refreshing. A fitting way to finish this off.
Green tea. To complement the above, between bites, I washed things down with some green tea. A apt refreshing cleanser.
I have recently been reminded of the sandwich method of feedback. Otherwise known by its more rude moniker, the s*** sandwich. So I guess the same can be applied to my critique. The majority of the dishes were good, clearly of better standard than most other places in London for Japanese food, the atmosphere slightly cramped but authentic in that way, but the spark of something excellent was missing. Not that the food was bad, by and by it was better than decent, but it missed that next step in evolution to make it something special. However, at this price, life is too short and I have other places to try instead, especially given the trek it took to get here. However, if I could afford to live around this area, I would probably be returning a more than healthy amount.
A quiet eating 8/10.
Dinner (all of the above for 2 people) was GBP80 per person excluding drinks and service.

Great text and awnser, sadly they are right, folkists dont really litsen or like to read much I have noticed.
But if they would and If I may be so bold and add when Loki have been helpfull in myth.
1. When the wall of asgard was reabuilt and the gods made a bet with a jötunn to have it done within a year, with the sun, the moon and freya as payment. Loki turned in to a marre and lead the jötunns horse away (and then leading to the birth of Sleipner), leading to the wall not being finnished in time and the gods winning the bet. (True loki got them in to this mess but he also got them out)
2. When The jötunns got Mjölner and Thor needed to get it back by dressing up as Freya, It was loki who lied and calmed the jötunns suspicions about why Freya semed so hungry and why her eyes burned like embers. Making sure no one found them out untill the hammer was within reach.
3. In one myth, when loki is on the run from the asir after admiting to have killed Baldur,he invents the first fishingnet just on the way, and who dont like fishing nets and fish.
4. Also yes, it was lokis fault Idun was kiddnapped (after he was forced to do so under threat), but he also turned her in to a hazzle nut and in hawk shape took her back to asgard, risking his life. (after he was forced to do so under threat)
5. In one variation of the creation myth its not Odin, Vile and Ve who create the humans, but Odin, Hönir and Lodur. And its belived by some that Lodur is a nother name for Loki. So Loki had a hand i making you.
6. In Lokka-táttur a balad from the Faroese islands. Odin, Hönir and Loki tries to help a young boy and the pepole in diffrent ways and fight the giants.
Loki instructs the farmer to build a boathouse with a wide opening and to affix an iron stake to it. Then he goes to the beach, where a boat is riding at anchor, rows out to sea, casts a weighted hook to the bottom, and catches a flounder. He has the boy turned in to grain in the middle of the fish's roe. The giant is waiting on the beach for Loki, asking him where he has been all night. He tells him all about the sea, and they go out together to fish. The giant casts his line and catches three flounders; the third is black, and Loki asks him to give him that fish. The giant refuses, and begins to count the roe, thinking to find the boy in one grain. The boy is afraid, because the particular grain is squeezing out of the giant's hand. Loki calls him to him and tells him to sit behind him and not let the giant see him and when they reach shore, to jump onto the beach so lightly that he does not make a mark in the sand. As the giant is pulling the boat onto the land, the boy jumps out and is standing before him; the giant pursues him but sinks in the sand up to his knees. The boy runs as fast as he can into his father's boathouse; the giant, in hot pursuit, sticks fast in the opening; the iron stake goes into his head. Loki cuts off one of his legs, but the wound grows together at once; he cuts off the other, this time throwing sticks and stones into the gap, and the wound does not grow together. Loki takes the boy home to his parents and says that he has done good and that the giant is dead.
If I have missed something or someone like to add, dont be shy.
I got a folkist arguing with me that loki is only a bad god. Do you have any resources to prove he's been helpful?
Also how does Norse heathenry not have orthodoxy or orthopraxy?
That's entirely predicated on whether the folkist would accept any proof you give them. And in my experience, they don't, because that would require them to change their worldview, and their purpose of arguing with you is to reinforce what they already believe in.
You are simply a prop in the story they're telling themselves. I recommend blocking and moving on.
As for your second question: Norse Heathenry has no orthopraxy or orthodoxy because it never developed any.
A religion develops doctrines when its parent society develops centralized agricultural practices, which allows for a more effective division of labor. This allows for the development of an intellectual class, and praxis would develop as a byproduct of continued philosophical discussion. This is also when a religion starts addressing questions of transcendence (afterlife, greater design, nature of the soul, etc) in earnest.
But Northern Europe was late to the Iron Age and didn't see this development until after the Christian conversion, so the Heathen praxis everyone keeps digging around for can't be found because never existed in the first place.
We also can't retroactively conclude what may have emerged if Christianity hadn't been introduced. The only thing we can do is pick up where it left off and let it develop organically as it always has.

Alanna Vagianos at HuffPost:
Three Senate Democrats are renewing their push to protect access to in vitro fertilization and other fertility treatments in new legislation released Monday morning. The Right to IVF Act is a package of bills that Sens. Tammy Duckworth (Ill.), Patty Murray (Wash.) and Cory Booker (N.J.) have already introduced this session. The legislation would establish a statutory right to access IVF and protect providers from criminalization, as well as expand IVF insurance coverage and make the care more affordable for families. It also includes IVF protections and extended access for veterans and service members. The Democrats rolled four of their bills into one to revive the conversation around IVF and hopefully have a better shot at passing the legislation. Most of the bills were blocked by Republicans or did not make it out of committee. The new bill includes the Access to Family Building Act, the Veteran Families Health Services Act, the Access to Infertility Treatment and Care Act, and the Family Building FEHB Fairness Act.
“Struggling with infertility is painful enough — every American deserves the right to access the treatment and tools they need to build the family of their dreams without the fear of being prosecuted for murder or manslaughter,” Duckworth, who had her two children through IVF, said in a statement. “I’m proud to unveil this sweeping legislative package with my colleagues that would actually protect the freedom to receive or provide IVF nationwide,” she added, “while making these treatments more affordable and accessible for the millions of American families — including military families and Veterans — who are experiencing infertility across the country.” Both Duckworth and Murray have long championed access to fertility treatments and other assisted reproductive technologies, introducing bills in the last few years to protect reproductive health care as access dwindles in the wake of the Supreme Court decision that repealed Roe v. Wade. Senate Republicans have blocked every IVF bill Democrats have brought to the floor, including Duckworth’s Access to Family Building Act in February.
Access to IVF took center stage earlier this year when the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that embryos should be defined as children — forcing several clinics to pause treatments and threatening care throughout the state. Although many Republicans have supported abortion bans that would also criminalize IVF, the party floundered for weeks after the widely unpopular Alabama ruling.
The Senate Dems have renewed their push to protect IVF with a bill package called Right To IVF Act that features four bills sponsored by Sens. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Patty Murray (D-WA), and Cory Booker (D-NJ).

In the wake of the Roe v. Wade news (a draft of a supreme court decision which would overturn it) I’m trying to figure out what to do. I don’t know if this is the “right” thing to do, but I’m sharing just in case any of you want to also yell at people. I’m calling every member of the Arizona legislature and asking them to prevent ARS 13-3603, ARS 13-3604, ARS 13-3605 and others from being enforced following the potential overturn of Roe v Wade, and I’m asking them to actively seek to remove those from law. Again, I’m not quite sure what to do, so this is what I’m trying, and if anybody has any constructive criticism or suggestions I’m more than happy to listen.
#roe v wade#activism#abortion rights#feminism#please give me suggestions guys I'm floundering to find something to do

This was a post about roe v wade in a lgbt subreddit:
A Message to TERFs: losing Roe v Wade is at least in part your fault
You see, by making your entire feminist project about not advocating for women's rights but about ruining the lives of trans women. You have divided our already besieged movement to bring equality to all women. When you have decided trans woman are such a problem that you are literally willing to ally with fundamentalists' Christians like the Heritage Foundation (who hate cis women almost as much as they hate trans people), you guarantee we will backslide.
As long as you choose to abandon any real feminist project like wage parity & decreasing actual incidents of sexual assault in pursuit of ruining the lives of trans women, in your misguided misandrist venture. Things will only get worse for women writ large. If you put the effort that you put into destroying the lives of random trans women into the ERA, we'd already have it passed by now. But instead, we are left floundering & backtracking to the world of 50 years ago.
Rule number one of misogyny:
Women are responsible for what men do.
TRAS ARE MRAS.
Yeah, let’s not blame the fact that this is something conservatives have been pushing for years and that when Trump came to power he was able to deck the Supreme Court with conservatives, getting two nominees through in record time including one being in a fucking election year which is simply not done, also being able to do this after years of blocking and denying Obama’s nominees because the American court and political system is fucking stupid. Let’s not blame the actual Supreme Court members for voting for this. Let’s instead blame the radfems, who are pro-choice and continue to fight for a woman’s right to choose. Let’s blame a whole group of feminists because some of them got into bed with a conservative Christian group even though most of us has absolutely nothing to do with their decision and those groups working together had nothing to do with the overturning of Roe vs Wade.
Because, somehow, despite Roe vs Wade having absolutely nothing to do with trans women, it’s still about trans women. They can’t leave it a moment and make it about something else for even half a second. Trans women always have to be at the centre of every feminist discussion and movement because refusing to support them means siding with everything conservatives stand for.
What next? The stripping of EPA’s power is also radfem’s fault because they spend too much on trans women and not enough on environmental regulation?

If you are still doing characterization notes, how about Doc Roe? Love your work btw :)
Thanks! 💙 I certainly haven’t written a lot of Gene, which partially is because Gene is a tricky character to get a real handle on. I’ll do my best for these notes, though! 😊
Gene is someone who keeps his own counsel. He is opinionated, certainly, but you ain’t gonna hear about Gene’s opinions any time soon unless it’s through him side-eyeing you and your bad decisions. Gene prefers to stay quiet and observe the goings-on around him without necessarily needing to participate in conversation. He’s not the type to make himself heard over the din and might even flounder in one-on-one talks from time to time. Gene doesn’t stand out from the crowd and is okay with that.
However, Gene has a temper on him. It takes a while for things to accumulate and for his emotions and opinions to stockpile into rage levels, but Gene will cut loose and let you have it at some point. He’s viciously honest when he does: Gene is not one to mince words once he speaks and hits where it hurts. This is because Gene observes people and knows people’s strengths and weaknesses (even the ones they are less aware of in themselves).
When confronted with too many things, Gene withdraws into himself and takes his distance from people. He seeks emotional equilibrium and is not comfortable showing just anyone what’s going on in his head. He’s vastly private, but not unfeeling. Gene has a calming presence on people around him, though he may be subject to inner turmoil, and he does seek out those who need help. He uses his voice as a centrepoint, much more so than his hands, and he might be prone to use an audible mantra or prayer as a way of bringing himself back to his core.
Though practical and decisive, especially in a crisis, Gene is rooted in spirit as well. He is not easily swayed and might believe things all come to pass precisely as they should. Gene knows himself and is assured in himself, but might struggle to find himself in the midst of turmoil. One quick and surefire way to anchor himself is through cracking a joke or making a smartass comment: Gene is rapid-witted and will let you know what’s what even as the world’s going to hell in a handbasket.
