its kinda funny how little the fab five is actually in the og teen titans compared to how much they're talked about, i get that they're meant to be the founding 5 members as shown in issue 53 but for most of teen titans volume 1 it either wasn't all of them (either Aqualad or Speedy were excluded) or there were more members with them (like Mal)
There are only like 4 issues out of 53 where dick, donna, garth, roy, and wally are the only ones on the team. 1 of those is the flashback in 53 and 2 of them are before speedy actually permanently joined, the same issue the speedy joins is the issue that aqualad leaves, and by the time aqualad rejoins mal had already permanently joined. heres a breakdown:
1-18: Garth, Wally, Dick, Donna (2 guest appearance from Roy)
19: Garth, Wally, Dick, Donna, Roy
-Garth leaves (to babysit it think?)
20-24: Wally, Dick, Donna, Roy (1 guest appearance from Don and Hank)
25: Wally, Dick, Donna, Roy, Don, Hank, Lilith
-they kill a man, Dick leaves to go to Hudson U
26-29: Wally, Donna, Roy, Don, Hank, Lilith, Mal, Mr Jupiter (1 guest appearance from Dick, 2 guest appearances from Garth
-Don and Hank stop showing up i cant recall if a reason was given
30-32: Wally, Donna, Roy, Lilith, Mal, Mr Jupiter
33-43: Wally, Dick, Donna, Roy, Lilith, Mal, Mr Jupiter (1 guest appearance from Garth)
-the series gets cancelled for 2 years after issue 43, by the time they get back together Mr Jupiter has shut down and Lilith is MIA
44: Wally, Dick, Donna, Roy, Mal
45-46: Garth, Wally, Dick, Donna, Roy, Mal
47-48: Garth, Wally, Dick, Donna, Roy, Mal, Duela
49-53: Garth, Wally, Dick, Donna, Roy, Mal, Duela, Karen
-series get cancelled, they all break up
also in 50-52 we see the formation of Teen Titans West (cuz theyre in California): Lilith, Betty (og batgirl), Garfield (Beast boy), Hank & Don, Charley (never heard of him before but he's Golden Eagle), and Gnarkk (Time travelling caveman that makes no sense if you think about it too much but whatever)
(JSYK some of this info may be slightly inaccurate because i was using wiki + my own faulty memory but its at least mostly accurate, also if a character isn't in an issue but hadn't officially left yet i still counted them as part of the team)
IDK why i wrote this all down, i just find it kinda strange how the fab 5 has been sorta revisionist historied into being more of thing than it was

Batfamily Teams
Generally goes oldest to youngest (in terms of average age of the team, not individual members). If a name is italicized, then it is not canonically a name they ever had, just one I made up/headcannoned, or stole from @newyoungjustice (who is AMAZING btw, please check them out!) or Earth-27. NOTES: i thought it’d be cool to have a little thing with Babs, Cullen, Maps and Alina where they’re all “Oracles”, so that’s why they’re Oracle Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Omega. Also, Carrie, Nell and Tiff were all “Batgirls-in-Training” before they got their ‘official’ Batgirl names. Both Helena-Huntresses exist in this universe, yes, as Helena Wayne crossed over from Earth Never-Two And Irey and Jai’s superhero names together make Hypervelocity, which I thought was super cool! :D

Character Portrayal - Kole Weathers
My portrayal of Kole is a mixture of the show and comics with a pinch of my own personal headcannons.
Tumblr media
Kole was experimented on her father Abel Weathers at the age of twelve. The promethium activated her dormant meta genes gifting her the power to create and control silicon crystal.
For a while Kole was content with her abilities, but as her control over her powers improved, so did the amount people who sought to use for her power.
After she turned fourteen she ran away from home by flying away from her family home as far as possible for days until she collapsed from exhaustion into a cave in the Artic. To protect herself from the harsh winds and preserve body heat she encased herself in silicon crystal.
While encased in the safety of silicon crystal she was found by Gnarrk, who took her back to his home where they began to develop a friendly bond with one another as Kole started to adjust to the freezing temperatures of the Artic Circle. There was a time Kole had thought about returning to the surface world, but she went against doing so due to not wanting to abandon Gnarkk.
So for the next two to three years she remained underground with Gnarkk until they came across the Titans and Dr.Light. However, after the defeat of the Brotherhood she decided to temporarily leave the Artic Circle with Gnarkk to bond with other Titans up above.
Kole became one of the founding members of Titans North. During this time she decided to take the opportunity to reunite with her parents, but was horrified to discover her father had produced a house full of crystalline and insectoid monstrosities. She made an attempt to reason with her father, but it fell upon deaf ears as he turned himself along with her mother into insectoid monstrosities. So she had to make the tough decision of encasing her friends in silicon crystal to protect them as she trapped her parents along with his creatures in the family lab before causing the lab to self-destruct. While her friends were safe not much of her family's home remained standing.
She remains with the Titans well into her late twenties assisting in training new members while using her powers to help scientists further their research, but she only helps scientists who have undergone intense background checks by the Titans.

Teen Titans East (Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Bumblebee, Guardian, Speedy, and Harlequin) and Teen Titans West (Bat-Girl, Lilith, Gnarkk, Beast Boy, Hawk, Dove, and Golden Eagle) pose for a commemorative photograph in Teen Titans (vol. 1) #52 (December, 1977). Art by Don Heck and Bob Smith; colors by Jerry Serpe; letters by Milt Snappin.
This was the penultimate issue of the series, the cancellation of which had already been announced. The following issue would be the last, featuring Bumblebee and Guardian looking through a casebook to learn the untold tale of the formation of the team. When Bumblebee and Guardian finish the other members arrive to announce that the Teen Titans are being disbanded so the members can purse their own solo careers.
That didn't last long, though, as the team would be back in 1980 under new management - Marvel Wolfman and George Perez - as the New Teen Titans.
