Linguistic Relativity: Does Language Shape Our Reality?
The Hypothesis The Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, also known as linguistic relativity, presents a captivating proposition: the structure and vocabulary of a language influence the way its speakers perceive and interact with the world. As we embark on an exploration of this intriguing concept, we delve into the depths of linguistic relativity, questioning the extent to which language serves as a…

writing gelphie fics is so funny cuz i'll be drafting some angsty heartwrenching scene and then i'll use the word confusifying like bffr
#gelphie#wicked#ozian lingo#almost described smth as horrendible on an exam and had to remind myself thats not a real word#though the ability to modify words' grammatical structure gives a much wider range of word choice and that's much appreciated#festivating scandalocious and congratulotions are all timers

Are there any cats with smoke/shaded fur (that is, fur thats only pigmented at the top and not the base) in bb? I always thought it was an interesting look and dont really see it used as often in designs
If I can draw it LMAO, it's surprisingly difficult to capture in a design when you're like, not a super fantastic coloring god like what others in the fandom can cook up. I'm better with blocky, almost toylike designs rather than cool shading tricks.
I will be making an effort when Echomist is relevant though, she's a character who canonically has whispy shaded fur. I think about her a lot more than such a small character really warrants, but that's the power of a cool design for you. She's a late Crusade/early-to-mid Campaign Era warrior, the mate of Hailstar.
EchoMIst (Emi) is a huge sweetie, I imagine she's considered absolutely gorgeous because of how striking her fur is. Her mateship with Hailstar is as strong and as unbreakable as the thick ice of deepest winter.
I imagine he goes to her a lot for advice, she's calm and merciful in a way that he is absolutely not. Maybe I'll give her a better role in Stormpaw's Demon-- maybe have her be the reason why Hailstar finally does something about Rainflower, who is his deputy in BB.
Also just a recap because it's been a while since I talked about this; Shellheart's not the biodad of Oakpaw and Stormpaw in this AU. He's their adopted dad. I'm going to be doing some stuff VERY differently from canon between Crookedstar's Promise and its BB equivalent, Stormpaw's Demon.
(I just had a thought to actually make her name in Clanmew especially interesting; instead of Echo as in "the echo of a cave," her name is echo as in "the echo of cracking ice." Cats have a much better sense of hearing, so they can hear those strange, otherworldly noises that thick ice makes when it cracks easier than humans can.
Living next to the water and having the river be such a big part of their lives, it would be SUPER fun if they had a dedicated onomatopoeia for it. Maybe even a few for some fun river words. Hmm... I'll put that in the notebook for the next Clanmew Day.)
#Btw sorry there hasn't been a clanmew day in a while. That's my B. It got lost in the chaos lmao#I want to bring it back soon with a big Grammar Update#Trout has done a TON of work in helping to bring our older stuff in line with more consistent grammatical structure in our newer stuff#So. Soon. God I have a few really exciting things to finish up#Deeeer if you're reading this I'm sorry I have not finished the Very Cool Thing we collabed on </3 I am thinking about it every day#BB!Echomist#Stormpaw's Demon#Better Bones AU

Repeatedly saying "balls in my mouth please" out loud in one of my quasi-conlangs to verify the pronunciation while my dog glares at me from across the room
#Stupid ass comic dropping in an hour or so maybe#I say quasi conlag because while the words themselves are invented the grammatical structure is identical to most romance#languages because I can only do so much with my time

Texted my immigrant esl mother that I wanted to show her a meme that related to a story I was going to tell her about my drawing parallels between theological concepts and botany
(This was the meme btw)

Anyways I forgot about it until later, when we were on call and I was telling her said story, and she was like:
“Ai vrut să-m arăți un mem?” (“You wanted to show me a meme?”)
She called it a mem
A mem
#I started laughing and then she started laughing at me#I am the same person who used to mispluralize words in my two languages as a kid bc I didn’t comprehend that they were seperate#with different grammatical structures#bilingual#immigrant parents#meme#lol

#anaesthesia personal#anaesthesia_personal#Rare sight of using ru on tumbr but well this doesn't concern anyone from anglosphere#Well webtoon fantranslations to eng are also cringe when done too amateurly. Why are you keeping that language's grammatical structure#Like hm ok it might be important to include the eonni-hyung-oppa-nuna-nim suffixes but? Leaving the name instead of “you” is cringe#Like 'Paula is a very great person; thanks for helping me!!!' Instead of ''you're a great person; Paula;thanks for helping me!''#The third person instead of second person when talking to someone and referring to them from cn/kr.#And like you can figure this out from context alone why not translate properly. Unless. Machine translation all the way unedited??

The Influence of Language on Thought and Perception
The Influence of Language on Thought and Perception Language, the fundamental tool of human communication, is not merely a medium for expressing thoughts but a profound shaper of cognition. The intricate relationship between language and thought has been a subject of fascination for scholars, linguists, and psychologists. As we delve into this complex interplay, we uncover how the languages we…

>trying the dutch duolingo because i heard dutch is easier than german and i want to see if that’s true >skip ahead a section bc i’m bored with de vrouw de man de kinderen and so on >asked for the dutch word for water >start to guess wasser because knowing german has gotten me this far >remember that the netherlands didn’t go through the high german consonant shift >type “water” >correct >i’m a language genius (i am not a language genius i still don’t know the correct german word order at least 50% of the time)
#i'm still gonna be proud of myself for remembering about the consonant shift though#dutch IS easier btw#or at least i currently think it is i haven’t reached the more complicated sentence structures yet#but it took me just a couple hours to skip ahead to the last section of level 1 dutch on duolingo#(this would not have been possible w/o prior german knowledge tbf)#only two grammatical genders and no cases to worry about for articles thank god#deutsch hat 4 fälle holländisch hat nur 1#gewinner: holländisch#as you figure out which dutch letter combinations tend to correspond to which letters in german there's a lot you can just guess#i've been finding subtitles on dutch videos pretty easy to decipher#this also works for österreichisch when you're watching maschek or the gute nacht österreich guy goes out to interview random people btw#sending them a big thank you for putting subtitles#maslow's hierarchy of needs pyramid where every level is just “people speaking dialect on tv with subtitles”

Ah, yes, Nelly Furtado's hit song Anteater. In completely unrelated news, several people have told me that I might be slightly dyslexic.
#shitpost hours but also this one's lowkey serious😭#I'm mostly bad with acronyms and double-letters but sometimes regular-ass words trip me up. like maneater apparently.#I can read and write just fine but stuff gets inexplicably mixed up here and there.#The bane of my existence is NDA and DNI though. they're not even that similar. idk.#actually homophones aren't- by jove! I've summoned an ant. there is an ant on my desk.#anyways homophones aren't fun either. I write things as I hear them in my mind and sometimes my brain chooses the wrong one.#I know the difference between them! It's not a lack of understanding. I know my its/it's and to/too/twos etc.#but when I try to get them down on paper something just goes wrong and I end up with the wrong one. and I KNOW it's wrong. alas.#even with super easy ones like flour and flower. obviously I know the difference but there's just a disconnect when I go to write it.#it's never been impactful enough for me to actually get it checked out but it is annoying.#if anything it impairs my ability or total lack thereof to do math over linguistic stuff but that's a whole other thing.#the ONLY way math makes sense to me is the way you'd put it into excel. i can put in horizontal stuff with brackets#but I could never do vertical math like they teach you in school.#even with a calculator. I cannot go downwards with it. my brain just doesn't compute it.#it's like reading other phonetically-similar languages as an english-only speaker.#you can recognize each individual letter (read: number) but putting them together doesn't get you very far.#you might even be able to pick out specific parts but you don't know the grammatical structures behind it.#that's how math has always felt to me.

"Shepard and his verbal grasp of a number of languages on a casual level" headcanon incoming when I get home because ive been thinking about it
#possibly one of the things I'm More autistic about is picking up random words/phrases and listening to the sounds of languages#and learning little facts about the grammatical structure of them. i only speak two (2) but have Some rudimentary understanding of a couple#but i still like So Many languages and just knowing tidbits about them and i will pour a bit of this into shep#another day in yappersville ☀️ \` * file: OOC.
