SAVATAGE!  This Florida metal band reigned from 1979 to 2002, and is now back ready to unleash a new album called Curtain Call!  They never received the recognition they deserved over the course of 12 mostly excellent albums.  Let’s fix that here and now! This list is part of a collaborative effort with 80sMetalMan!  You can check his list here. 10. “Handful of Rain” from Handful of Rain…

shotgunning a cigarette with john wick (especially young jardani) is all i can think abt right now
Tumblr media Tumblr media
John's breath is visible in the cold of the night, the stink of the city rising from the gutters in the alley. You take a deep drag from the cigarette he passed you earlier. It fills your lungs with welcomed smog, and you exhale before your lungs can protest the chemicals being held for too long. Neither of you speak as the smoke dances in the air between you two. You don't need to. This little routine of yours has been suiting you both quite nicely without many words so far.
You look out into the starless night, tapping the cigarette off to the side before passing it back to John without looking. You think about how different things are for people like you. How much your feet ache despite leaning against the brick wall for support. Your ruined toes from the strict ballet routines, the callouses on your hands matching the blisters on blisters.
You don't want to think about what they teach John. You know he's due for his first true mission soon, you're both beginning to be old enough to truly start being of value to the 'family's' business.
You don't notice John's sharp eyes caressing your features. You only glance over when your thoughts drift away, and the craving for another hit of the cigarette hits. You catch his stare, and he doesn't look away, he isn't one to be embarrassed about something like that. You wonder for a moment how long he's been eyeing you, but ignore it, and reach a hand out towards that little fire John holds in his hand between you. He pulls it back, not cruely, but as if he must.
This surprises you, but you don't know what to say. John speaks for the first time tonight.
"I'm headed off tomorrow night." he says it plainly, no deeper explaining, but you know what this means. He is going out to kill for the first time, for real, not the sparing he does with the other boys. No, he will use the sharpened skills he's learned, or he won't be back. You say nothing, but you give a small, short nod of understanding, and one of your hands reaches to smooth the white, fluffy tuelle of your ballet dress. John continues.
"I want to try something with you, if you'll let me..." He isn't nervous when he speaks. He says everything so plainly, but right now you know whatever he is suggesting is important to him, so you turn towards him fully. You look deep into those brown eyes, practically as black as the night sky above right now, only a small overhead yellowing light on the side of the building casting a glow on both of you. He sees your willingness to listen, and the space between the two of you closes so slowly, you hardly notice John is even moving towards you. He is truly, stealthy.
"Stop me if this displeases you..." His voice has softened, just barely, the words ebbing upwards with the frost of his breath. You know he means it when he says that, you trust that he would never do something to displease you to begin with, but your heart picks up as he moves closer. He brings that glowing ember back to his lips and takes a deep drag, tendrils of smoke escaping his mouth as he pulls the cigarette away at last.
He closes the gap between you until he is leaning down, his height having always been there, suddenly more noticeable. John hasn't released the smoke from his lungs, not yet. He's savoring the moment. His hand is warm when it touches your waist, bringing you in until your lips are brushing his, both of you open and waiting for the other. You give a small movement towards him for the first time since this started, and that's all he needs.
John presses lips into yours with a hunger, a need barely kept at bay, still restrained. He is well trained, indeed. He kisses you, moving gently in sync with your lips, and you respond perfectly in time. You are also trained, synchronicity coming easy to a ballerina like you.
John's lungs must be aching by now, but the kiss goes on, one of his large hands reaching up to place a thumb against the base of your neck, feeling you there, and then wrapping so gently to crook you deeper into him. You feel a moan bubble up from the gesture, and feel as if you are but a swan in wolf's teeth. John bites your lower lip gently, pulling it down and asking you to open. You oblige, and he softly breathes the smoke he has been holding into your awaiting lungs.
You take it hungrily, softly sucking in to meet what has been contained inside him. You feel as if more than just smoke has entered your body. You can feel a piece of John, as if he is giving you some small part of him. As if to say, 'if I don't make it back, remember this part of me, the part that didn't kill. The part that breathed life into another. Carry it with you.' Your cheeks burn in the cold as your lungs fill to the brim and the rest over flows and descends upwards into the night.
John seals the breath he's given you with a final, passionate kiss. It's as if he's stamped your petal like lips with a flame that wasn't supposed to grow there. When his lips pull away, leaving heavy breaths and even heavier lids looking, searching deeply into one another, you can't help but feel like John has lit a coalfire in the pit of your stomach. From the look he's giving you, you can tell he feels the same, maybe even better knowing what he's done to you, how he's tainted you before he must take his leave.
"John..." His name drifts from your lips onto his, and he stops you with the brush of another kiss.
"We should go back inside..." He hasn't taken his eyes off you, you're still so close it hurts. You know he's right, but this moment is intimacy that neither of you have every been allowed here, in this place that teaches only death. You search him, a hand you didn't notice is gripping his shirt. You hold that fabric tightly, and your knuckles shake when your mind thinks to let go.
"I know..." John says simply, and you know he does. "Meet me here again, in a days time, as we usually do."
"But..." You begin, not able to bring yourself to the 'what if' of no one being here when you come.
"I would not allow myself to let you down. You know that." And you do. John will do everything in his power to make sure your little ritual out here is unbroken. You know he will come back. He must. Your grip loosens, and you two part. You both go back to your comfortable silence, and head inside.
The heat of John's lips and hand around your throat hold you through out that night. You dream of a wolf who takes you gently in it's teeth. It doesn't let go.

“But there came an end to my long centuries of Satan’s service. Clad in red velvet it came, the very covering my old Master had so loved. It came swaggering and camping through the lighted streets of Paris as though God had made it. But it was a vampire child, the same as I, son of the seventeen hundreds, as they reckoned the time to be then, a blazing, brash, bumbling, laughing and teasing blood drinker in the guise of a young man, come to stomp out whatever sacred fire yet burnt in the cleft scar tissue of my soul and scatter the ashes.
It was The Vampire Lestat. […] This Lestat, aged twenty in mortal years, an errant and penniless country aristocrat from the wild lands of Auvergne, […] who became a wild blond-haired celebrity of the boulevard gutter theatricals, a lover of men and women, a laughing happy-go-lucky blindly ambitious selfloving genius of sorts, this Lestat, this blue-eyed and infinitely confident Lestat.
This Lestat, […] went strutting about fashionable Paris, isolated and tormented by his supernatural endowments yet glorying in his new powers, dancing at the Tuileries with the most magnificently clad women, reveling in the joys of the ballet and the high court theater and roaming not only in the Places of Light, as we called them, but meandering mournfully in Notre Dame de Paris itself, right before the High Altar, without the lightning of God striking him where he stood.
He destroyed us. He destroyed me.”

Kill the unicorn, just to have its horn
He meets her at the edge of a dream, and tries to keep her there. Written for Fandom Empire Fandom Rush - Week 7: Star Wars and Star Wars 100 - Prompt: Shrine and Lyrical Titles Duet Challenge - Prompt: Different lyrics from the same song (Song: "Gutter Ballet" - Savatage)
READ ON AO3
“Padmé!”
She turned away from him without so much as a word. Ice burned him from the inside out, the flutters of memory curling his grip.
“Padmé!” he repeated, but this time his voice was mixed with one she’d never heard in life, but that he knew well. His grip settled elsewhere, this time, holding her in place as he stomped up the stairs of the shrine.
He stepped into the shrine, ignoring the way the floor protested his weight, and strode directly for Padmé. With a single motion, he made her turn and face him.
Her eyes were filled with grief, but they were dry as she struggled against him.
“Let me go, Anakin.”
“There’s nothing out there for you,” he said. He hadn’t even spared the world beyond the shrine a glance, but he didn’t need to. He knew he spoke the truth. “You have to stay here, Padmé, where I can keep you safe.”
“Safe?” she echoed. “You killed me, Anakin.”
For a moment his grip faltered.
“Stop running away,” he ordered. “That’s how you got hurt the first time. I don’t want to keep hurting you.”
He stepped forward, and his foot went through the fragile wooden floor. He stumbled, but refused to let it break his grip on her.
The ice wasn’t just inside him. It was in the shrine, too, growing and cracking and straining the structure. The roof began to crumble, and Padmé’s eyes went wide.
“Anakin, please!”
The floor crumbled away, but he refused to loosen his grip, even as they fell. She would not leave this place. She would not leave him.
The bacta tank shattered, and Vader gasped in shallow breaths as he woke up. Alarms blared, and a medical droid was quick to reattach his helmet.
He was alone.

Written for @corrodedcoffinfest
Prompt: Lust | Word Count: 1313 | Rating: M | CW: Adultery/Infidelity | POV: Steve | Pairing: Steddie, Steve/OFC | Tags: Angst, Steve, Eddie, Gareth, Steve is married, original female character (background), original child characters (background), unhappy marriage, messy as fuck, melancholy
Tumblr media
Till death do us part. The words had been full of hope, full of a future, full of a life to be had together. They made plans, knew where they were going to live, where they were going to work, how many kids they would have. All before he said ‘I do’.
Steve’s never regretted saying two words so much.
He gets up, makes breakfast for her and the kids, then heads into work. On the weekend he mows the lawn and cleans the gutters. Takes his son to little league, drives his daughter to ballet. Some nights they get to eat as a family, some nights they don’t. He thinks of the Wheeler’s sometimes, how Karen was home for the kids, meals cooked, everything in order, a real family. Some nights he works, some nights she does. The kids stay with friends or baby sitters. When they get a little older they’ll be fine on their own. He was.
She doesn’t need him. The kids would be fine without him, they don’t realise he’s there half the time. He thought it would be more fun. Telling Nancy that he wanted six little nuggets had seemed so cute and romantic but here he is with his dream and it’s just…not his dream anymore. He loves his kids, would die for them, but it’s not what he was expecting. It’s harder. There’s more sacrifice. Less of him left at the end of the week. It’s selfish, sure, but he’s thirty five and he and his wife barely say good morning to one another. It’s so fucking cold.
So on the weekends he sees Eddie.
Eddie left Hawkins as soon as he was able to and went travelling, which at the time had sounded good for him. Hawkins had left him hollowed out, a shell of the boy they knew. A couple of years later they found out he’d only got as far as a couch in Cincinnati. Jeff tracked him down, cleaned him up and brought him home. He’s worked at the plant ever since, Gareth right alongside him.
Steve’s wife wanted to move to Indy after they got married. That was the first time he said no to her.
She’s great with Robin, thinks the sun shines out of her ass, or did once she found out she was a lesbian. But her family were friends with the Cunningham’s and she was in Eddie’s class in school, so he is very much not welcome in their home. Steve learned the hard way not to mention Eddie’s name; lose the battle but win the war. So they fuck at Eddie’s. Which is probably for the best.
The summer sun sears his skin, a beer sweats in his hand as he flips burgers on the grill, and all the dad’s stand around talking about their cars and their boats and all the gals drink wine coolers while watching the kids in the pool. He hears a huge splash; Gareth’s kids cannonballing, splashing the soccer moms. They’re re older than his children, look so like their dad it’s scary with their mops of dirty blond curls. His wife is lovely, always there when you need something. Always kind to Eddie, too. Jeff moved away a couple of years ago, but he comes back to check on Eddie. Matty too. But Gareth stayed, and Steve knows he stayed for Eddie.
“Hey,” Gareth says, nudging him in the ribs. “How’s it going?”
Steve flips a burger, popping and sizzling on the grill. “It’s going. How’s the family?”
Gareth eyes him carefully before taking a pull on the beer. “You know, so-so. Been better, been worse.” Takes another drink of his beer and moves in to look at the grill a little more closely, closer to Steve. “You were missed last week.”
Steve sighs, eyes darting around looking for his wife, making sure she’s out of earshot.
“I couldn’t get away,” he says under his breath.
“Yeah well, if you can’t keep your promise to the family then you need to rethink this arrangement because —”
“Jesus Christ, alright. I know, okay?” He drops a couple of cooked burgers onto a plate, adds a couple of raw ones, an eye on his wife the whole time.
“Is he alright?” he whispers.
Gareth knocks back the last of beer before reaching into the cooler and grabbing another.
“Go see for yourself. We’ll stay late tonight. You won’t be missed.”
He never is.
The sun is low in the sky when he pulls up outside the double wide Eddie shares with Wayne. Wayne’s retired now, spends his weekends fishing or sitting on Jim Hopper’s porch knocking back PBRs like they’re going out of fashion, so Steve knows he won’t be home. He fishes out his key, a quick look over his shoulder, before letting himself in. They’ve been doing this for years and yet it’s never made it back to his wife or parents. Or maybe it has and they’re living in blissful ignorance. He could live with that.
He hears music coming from Eddie’s room, not the metal of his youth that drove them all so mad, but something softer, sadder. Steve kicks off his shoes and pads to the bedroom. He shucks off his shorts and t-shirt and climbs onto the bed next to Eddie, sweat slicked chest against his pale back.
“I’m sorry,” he says, planting a soft kiss on Eddie’s shoulder.
“Yeah.”
Steve hates that tone, the defeat in his voice. He pulls Eddie round making him turn so they’re lying face to face. His hand finds Eddie’s cheek, cradles it softly, his thumbs stroking the stubble on his jaw, the corner of his mouth. He forgets how beautiful Eddie is sometimes. It takes his breath away, hits him at moments he’s not expecting. Age looks good on him. He’s filled out from years of hard work in the factory, though it’s worn him down in other places. The Munson Bad Back is what Wayne calls it.
“How was your party?”
“It wasn’t a party.”
Eddie rolls his eyes. “Alright, then how was your barbecue?”
Steve leans in, meaning to catch Eddie’s lips between his own but Eddie pulls away.
“It was boring, and I couldn’t wait to get away, and Gareth is a fucking saint. I owe that guy so much beer.”
Eddie nods, his eyes never leaving Steve’s. They do this, sometimes, lie here for hours, whispering I love you’s until Steve has to collect the kids from whatever social event they’ve been invited to. Get them home, get them fed, all the time with the scent of Eddie still on his skin. He should feel ashamed. But he loves him too much for that.
“What do you want?” Steve asks him, wrapping a brown ringlet around his finger. It brings a smile to Eddie’s face. “There he is.” Steve beams back.
Eddie closes his eyes. “Just you.”
Steve nods softly and pulls him in for a kiss, his tongue nudging at Eddie’s lips. Eddie never denies him. His wife has never kissed him like this, with desire, with need. He wonders sometimes if she’s seeing someone else, too. He wouldn’t mind. It would make him feel better. Maybe he’d be able to give more to Eddie; he deserves the world. Eddie’s lonely, Steve knows that. Knows there’s never been a Mrs Munson the way there is a Mrs Harrington. Knows there never will be.
They don’t talk about the future, they never have, there’s nothing to gain from it. The maybe-somedays don’t help anyone, least of all Eddie. Steve loves him, adores him, and he knows Eddie loves him back, feels it deep in his bones.
They’ve had fifteen years together, in a way. Just not the way they wanted. But they both hope for more, hope for forever.
Till death do they part.

I struggled with this so much, so I went searching for song inspo on Spotify and Undisclosed Desires by Muse grabbed me. I didn't intend for this to go this way, and it's much sadder than I had meant it to be.
@the-unforgivenn At least I didn't hurt Gareth!
