Decided to watch Hazbin Hotel…..(only because I hard that Jeremy Jordan is Lucifer va…..and also because i am a hater™️)

Watching this on Watch Anime dub, it has the pilot…so

Pilot

Pilot Charlie voice is so pretty. God the angels designs remind me of those weird The Purge neon mask…forget how red this pilot is..there is a lot of random sounds effects, it feels a tinnnyyyyyy bit to much. Pilot angels voice <3 snake guy voice so SO familiar????? I feel like he was in a video game or something. Hmm I forgot how much cursing there is…minor pet peeve, sometimes the lineart is hot pink and it’s kind of annoying since it sticks out against black lineart, also there SO many eyes, everywhere? Idk if that a fun little quirk or lore™️ that one news reporter being on fire made me laugh.. I like the mixed art style when Vaggie talks about Alastor, it’s charming. Hmmm, radio sound effects, love them <3

I think it’s cool that Charlie is a very sweet, kind of “childish” Nieves princess in a world full of murder and hate and violence. It makes me wonder how she got that way? Also hell is overpopulated so the angels kill them. Interesting!! Especially since lot of demons also fight over territory. This Katie killjoy does have a point, why would sinners want to change? Beside the killing, it seems like hell is basically Earth 2.0.. It is cool how Alastor the radio demon, decided to help out because he’s bored.

Episode 1

Ok, so the intro says that the angels have an extermination because they don’t want Hell to rise up. But in the pilot it was because of overpopulation…Also Lucifer not liking hell and can no longer dream, while Lilith thrives…hmmm if this story has Lilith be evil while Lucifer is good idk how to feel about that. The voices are different, while I don’t like Charlie’s new voice (sounds to idk deep?) I definitely like Vaggies, it’s deep and a bit monotone. Also new outfits!!! Charlie’s is fine, but I don’t like how sharp her face is? So look more older and mature compared to her pilot self, which add the whole naive princess feel. It’s canonically 5days to a week between the events of the pilot and the first episode…oh ew I hate Angels voice. It’s too high, and he has an accent now??? Oh Husk voice!! While is deep, it’s also high? No longer gruff.. hmm character wise, angels seem more bitchy?? Then the pilot?

Ok…random song???? Just…no build up music or anything.. Charlie curses more too. In the pilot she curse like, 3 times. Here she does it more.

There is a giant clock tower thing that went you go in, leases to a lobby then leads to the angels???? Wouldn’t that make it like, easier to attack heaven or something? Why is an Angel, like the heaven angel, cursing?? I feel like that would be against the rules?? WAIT THATS ADAM LIKE FIRST HUMAN ADAM???? Oh no that worse… like like nifty she’s a cutiepie :)

Ok Hell is still overpopulated, and heaven keeps killing then because they think he’ll will overpower them, but Adam does it for entertainment? Hmmm they also going to kill again in 6 months. :/ Katie killjoy voice is also bad.. oh!!! Wait Adam lied, the real reason heaven is killing again because an Angel was killed? But an angel was never killed before??? I thought hell was very powerful?

Episode rating 1-5. I give it a 3. I like the singing, love Vaggies and Alastor’s dynamic. But the plot is a bit confusing? Is hell being kill because of overpowered or because of overpopulated? The hotel design is pretty. Though he’ll is still red :/

Episode 2

Why is hell citizen freaking out? In the pilot it seems like they like it, because people can fight over territory. And an angel was murder, so ??? Don’t see why they would panic.

The Vees. Vox, a tv head demon who is like a weird Amazon business guy. His design is…clutter. Dude, striped jacket with vertical stripes shirt? Tho thank god he’s blue, he sticks out nicely in hell. I like his blue neon eyeliner, that cool. Velvet is a British fashion designer….shes fine. I don’t really care for her. And Valentino, who’s is Angel’s boss/pimp. And oh my gosh whose voice, his accent keeps coming and going??? It’s bad I hate it, because it’s so noticeable. Interesting that he’s Spainish(?)

Vox can hypnotize people and he did a cool tv voice effect!! Oh god I think I have a favorite character??? Vox and nifty…

Ok ok ok, so there a radio demon, a tv demon, is there a computer/internet demon??? God I hope so. Imagine if there an internet demon and vox and alastor has to like put aside there differences and work together.

Why is there Egyptian demons???? Ancient Egyptian believed in an underworld called Duat, but it’s not a place of external punishment. The ancient Egyptian thought the worst punishment a soul could have would be denial to the afterlife, and being ceased to exist. Vox asked Alastor to join his team?? Maybe Vox doesn’t like Velvet and Valitini that much? He seems more like a boss to them than a friend.

“And that’s the tea” :/ Why is Alastair using slang from after the 20’s? I mean sure he probably learn it in hell. But Alastor is like from 1920. That’s the tea/spilling tea is original from drag culture in 1994.

What IS Charlie’s plan to redeems sinners? Charlie was born in hell, and the sinner were from earth, surely the sinner like, know how to apologize and basic human decency? Maybe they just forgot? Maybe they need to like, clean themselves of their sin??? Idk.

Oh my god Charlie is having them do a say no to drugs roleplay!!!! ……that. Akers me wonder, how does Charlie’s know this stuff if she’s from hell? Does she learn this by watching the sinners? Did her mom or dad teach her this??? Ok, so I have seen the pilot and that seen post about that one comic about angel day to day life, and seen the addic music video. So it’s a surprise that Fat Nuggets, Angle’s pet pig is here. And that weird red smoke.

I don’t care for snake guy. He’s…neutral. Kind of suck that who snake guy being a spy was like, immediately uncovered. Kind of wished that angle was get like bummed out about the attention snake guy is getting, then later he would like, try to find out what is going on. Or something!!! But I guess having snake guy be an actual member of the team is fine. Tho, I do like his design. It’s nice to see characters that aren’t so red. Angel’s and Vaggie’s singing voice harmonies really well. Ok, this is like the first sign I actually enjoy.

Scale 1-5. I give it a 4. Only because of Vox, and that ending song.

Episode 3

Snake guy wanting to shoot the other residents because he thinks everyone is to nice and it’s a lie. That…that surprisingly a deep thought? Like I didn’t expect the show to have the residents not trust one another because they are waiting for the other shoe to drop. Also it seems like Vaggie and Alastair run the hotel, like doing up with the ad, making rules. Seems like Charlie is just the face/money aspect of the hotel. My guess is that in the future Charlie wants to quit, or is forced to to quit, and Vaggie take over, or gives like, an emotional speech about how the hotel and running it charge her for the better.

I remover in the pilot, or around that time, Alastor is aroace (nice) but I don’t remember what Vaggie is. But I can see people shipping them. For me, I could see then being close friends or maybe a weird ambiguous relationship.

Charlie you kind of a shitty boss. Like, I know I just said that vaggie does all the work, but girl, you have to do some work to?

Once again, a another song without any music buildup or warning. “I’m the backbone of the Vees” hmmmmm are you tho? Like, Vox is doing a lot, and Val is….there. WAIT IS SHE the internet overboard??? She’s call “social media overlord” in one of the screen backgrounds.. god if she if, that lame. She not like, scary or imitating?? She’s just annoying. Man that sucksss. We could have like a cool internet overlord that was young and careless, but that a persona, and on the inside they are rude and vile. Because the internet has everything and anything, so they could instantly control people lives or spread rumors or doxxs people????

Idk why, but velvet sing reminds me of SIX the musical. But I know that her VA is Lily Cooper who did the SpongeBob musical and wicked , and not SIX.

Why is this lady’s earring hanging off her hair??? Do sinner/demons/whatever not have ears or noses?? Eghh I don’t like her singing?? It feel like she’s straining herself.

WAIT THE SNAKE EGG HAS EGGS BECAUSE SNAKE LAY EGGS BUT THEY ALSO EAT THEM. OHHHHH. why did that take me so long to figure that out??

Episode 4

Oh dear, I hard LOT of bad things with this episode…let’s see how bad it is.

Charlie get gross out by the sex tape….asexual Charlie real. To me!!!! Also same, Charlie, same.

“Dollface” aw, cute.

Angel panicking about Charlie trying to talk to his boss. I’m guessing he’s afraid that if Charlie accidentally angers Val, Val will take his anger out on Angel. :(

Oh cool. Val hit angel. Wow!! (Sarcasm) Totally wish there was like, a warning or something for that!!!!

Hmm ok. So that song was…bad. Like lyrically bad. As for the scenes, I literally don’t know how to feel about them? Like knowing the backstories of this episode, it grosses me out. But the song and scenes, just didn’t feel anything? Idk.

I don’t think husk should get angel back?? Angel was sexually harassed him, and husk has repeatedly said no. Like yeah, angel did that has a bad coping mechanisms or like, persona, but hmmm. I feel like if they two need to talk to each other, it could be in a different way? Also I noticed this episode is SUPER short compared to the other ones. The other once’s are like 22 minutes, this one is 12.

Oh cool, husk stoped angel from getting roofied. I guess with him being a bartender, he’s train to watch out of these things.

Husk singing voice is so so nice <3 but WOW is this message a bad one. Angel sold his soul to Val, and Val abuses him. Angel then self destruct because he thinks if he (angel) is broken enough then Val will let him go. Meanwhile…..Husk was an overlord who gamble and lost his soul to Alastor…..these 2 problems don’t equal each other. One is horrible, and one is a bummer situation. Also the message for being at rock bottom, together, maybe he helped to some people, but I think in Angel’s case he needs different help. Like sometimes when people act worse with each other, it can make people not want to get better or encourage someone to get worse. I feel like that what husk and angel dynamic is?

For some reason I feel like Charlie was written really out of character here??? She crying and had to be carried away. It feels very weird.

I heard that episode 5 and 6 are coming soon. Will I seen them, probably. Do I enjoy this show? Not really. The concept is cool! And like, only 3 characters I enjoy. But I feel like the way this is handled is bad. On Prime Video this show is 18+. Honestly, this show feels more like TV-14 - TV-MA. TV 14 is decried as intended for children ages 14 and up in company of an adult. It possibly contains suggesting dialogue, strong language, intense sexual situations, or intense violence.

TV MA is for adults. It possibly contains crude indecent language, explicit sexual activity, or graphic violence. On IMDb Hazbin Hotel has 19 sex and nudity, 14 gore and violence, 9 profanity, 10 alcohol, drugs and smoking, 9 fighting and intense scenes. On HBO MAX it’s 18+, TVMA, when video version, and 16+ on YouTube. So like, who is this show for???

Features soften as he sets the small bloom upon his desk, moving one of the shining instruments aside to make room for it. The leaves had begun to curl and stem slouching with neglect. Vermillion hues catch sight of the scroll and soft laughter laced with an owl’s hoot is emitted. Single digit traces the familiar feather. A bold and personal touch - one the prince could admire while still finding it entertaining and perhaps a bit dramatic. Ah, but none compared to him, that he understood well enough. Stolas slips the ring from his finger to permit himself access to the words inside. He ventures out onto the nearest balcony for both fresh air and privacy’s sake. 

Pinch features and stern slant of beak soften. It wasn’t that he didn’t enjoy the correspondence, but the topic it brought to light. . . . was less than favorable. For a flicker of a moment, Stolas wishes he had kept in touch with the other Goetia. Perhaps he would have felt less lonely; his gilded cage would have, at the very least, felt as though the door were open for him to come and go. What use did clinging to past mistakes have? Another laugh is elicited with the remark about Stella being his preferred advocate. A jest that leaves feathers ruffled and the traces of a smile upon previously solemn features.Vassago’s dedication is a spark of warmth, of possibility amidst a storm of the impossible. He was not alone. Though Stolas wanted to inquire as to what he has done to deserve such unyielding loyalty and friendship, he will not doubt the High Prince again. The determination scrawled on the paper was nearly tangible. Heavy sigh leaves him, and Stolas tips his head skyward, eyes closing as a gentle breeze passes. There was a storm within him, building in intensity. Its path was unpredictable even to him, but he knew one thing for certain: he cannot fold, cannot crumble, cannot break. He must stand firm and prepare for the worst. 

Stolas vows to greet whatever challenges await him headfirst and steadfast. He was still a powerful prince, and even what is written in the stars can change. 

Steady strides take him to his desk. He gives a delicate twist of fingers, alighting a small candle with magicked purple flame. He places a miniature wax cauldron over the flame and chooses a dazzling Aegean blue to melt. The letter would be sealed and delivered in a similar manner, preventing any unwanted eyes from descrying their exchanges. 

Brilliant Vassago,  You hoot now? Goodness, how times have changed!  I fear you know me all too well, but that is to be expected. You always were the most observant and outspoken of the two of us. Stubborn? Moi? Have you caught your reflection in a mirror of late? I do believe you are far more stubborn than myself, but we can argue semantics another time.  Your devotion and resilience is admirable, Vassago. I promise you this: I will not cower away from whatever comes. I will do as you say and tread carefully, erring on the side of caution with all around me. Preparations will begin, though I have yet to know what or how exactly I should proceed. Regardless - you seem particularly fired up and ready to fight for me. And for that, I will be eternally grateful. For that, for you and Octavia, I will meet these challenges without faltering. Should things go well, do remind me to invite you to the mansion sometime for a leisurely exchange of pleasant conversation and a drink.  It would be a lie if I did not admit the trepidation I feel in my very marrow. Stolas rolls the letter into a tight scroll and wraps it in delicate cornflower blue ribbon once he’s sealed it proper. Head slopes to one side, assessing it before realization dawns. With a click of tongue, he carefully plucks an ombre feather from his plumage. A lucky draw, considering it didn’t hurt nearly as much as he expected it to. Blue-grey giving way to a deeper hue. Perfect. He tucks it safely beneath the ribbon for security before sending it off. A strange and uneasy sensation tickling against his skin. Time felt as though it were slipping through his fingers like a fine mist. And there was no telling what was to be expected.

Why The Hell Not?

Ok, Papyrus Fan Club, listen up because I have stupid ideas and am NOT afraid to say them.

WHY THE HELL HAVE I NOT SEEN ANY CIRCUS AUS FOR PAPYRUS?!! This boy would THRIVE in a circus. You're telling me he WOULDN'T put on a silly little hat and coat and present a series of daring and deadly stunts to a comedically small audience? The Discography Principle - Prologue, or: "All My Homies Hate Dividing by Zero"

The discography principle may be defined as an objective way to determine whether or not you're worthy of calling a band or artist "your favorite" or "one of your favorites". A possible enunciation of it goes as follows:

When u = me, this subset of B (which we might call Bf) is comprised of six bands, off the top of my head: Autechre, Godflesh, Shellac, Kraftwerk, Fugazi and Coil, listed in no particular order.

To download a record, especially in high-quality formats, is no small thing because - in an era of 24/7 online access to all sorts of music, provided you know where to look for it - it takes commitment. Regardless of whether or not you actually get to listen to a particular record, it's safe to assume that you would never work your way through Soulseek or Sophie's Floorboard or Systems of Romance or what have you to get all the others if you haven't already listened to (and loved) enough of their stuff to know that yes, it is worth the effort and the gigabytes (and the money, if you know about Bandcamp and you're so inclined. I am so inclined, most of the time; unfortunately, my finances usually don't agree with me). To buy a record is relatively easy: Soulseek is a bitch to set up, MediaFire and MEGA can backfire (no pun intended) horribly and leave you hanging when the link is inevitably copyright-struck, or give you a digital STD in particularly unfortunate cases. Anyway, downloading a whole discography potentially gives you a veritable goldmine of stuff that you are, at this point, left to your own devices to explore at your earliest convenience, whatever that may be, and provided you walk around with you HDD constantly on you - there's no way in hell you're ever fitting that stuff on your phone, I don't believe you, fuck you. Six bands are more than enough to smoke your memory space completely, trust me.

Anyway, the more perceptive among you might have noticed (as usual in many of my posts: like Twin Peaks does with Laura Palmer - and, later, Dale Cooper - I thrive in dancing around the space where something is evidently missing, and gesture very obviously to what should be there but isn't) a pretty big elephant in the room which is time to address.

Like every annoying music rat bastard on the Internet, my ever-growing and (once) wide choice of band shirts includes a Swans t-shirt. A discarded X-ray photograph of some patient's admittedly very nicely-kept teeth, kept bare by a dentist's mechanical contraption has become the official insignia for everything grimy, sludgy, fucked up, antihuman, urban-in-the-uncomfortable-way in Swans' music. Early Swans truly had a magic that is hard to replicate to this day (to this day I believe only one band might actually have made it if to a smaller extent, and they're featured later on this list precisely because they chose to leave that behind at one point) and it resides in the absolute absence of magic that transpires from their music: it's so stark, bare-boned and brutal in a profoundly dehumanizing way that it really leaves nothing left of who made it, or so it would seem.

Unfortunately, Swans being horrifying testaments to humanity's curse of resilience lasted relatively little, specifically about ten years if we wanna stretch it all the way to Soundtracks for the Blind - but I would argue that stuff had already given way by the time The Great Annihilator dropped in 1995. As a disclaimer, The Great Annihilator and Swans Are Dead are actually great and Soundtracks for the Blind is an extremely compelling snapshot of things that Swans were and/or could have been, just so we're all on the same page. But I guess most will agree when I say that while The Seer and To Be Kind are pretty good in their own, entirely different way, The Glowing Man began showing signs of wear and tear in the formula that they seem to have been unable to leave behind even when leaving meaning dropped, to a point where I listened to like five minutes of The Beggar before giving up, possibly forever, on the idea of modern Swans being somehow relevant. It's mostly a case of common over-exposure, plain and simple. I had a friend who simply could never listen to the Doors because he'd basically worn the records out by the time he was 16 and even hearing one note of any song of theirs sent him into a fucked up blathering rage.

Ironically enough what got Swans fucked was this tension to imbue themselves with psychedelic techniques and therefore moving into "becoming the new Doors" or - like a Tumblr post I read back in 2016 said - turning into "a batshit insane King Crimson". Not even discussing how frankly debatable this description is, it does turn out to be pretty useful, because it very directly leads us to:

Element #0, again: KING CRIMSON (hear me out folks, this is not what it looks like)

First things first: Robert Fripp is my favorite guitarist of all time and his and Adrian Belew's guitar styles on Discipline remain among the most influential things I have ever heard to me. I only have one guitarist in my current band (and that would be me) but I have never stopped attempting to replicate the dizzying guitar figures that Fripp and Belew intertwine, counterphase, overlap. One could even argue that the lack of intertwining, counterphasing and overlapping guitar parts is in itself a distinctive feature of my guitar style, in that I force myself into a dichotomy: giving the track body, oomph, presence versus making the part spidery, nimble, unsafe to walk over.

Anyway, put it simply, too many people like King Crimson here, and worst of all too many people like them for the right reasons. You don't have a Oneohtrix Point Never situation wherein a shitton of people think Age of and Magic Oneohtrix Point Never are "masterpieces" in lieu of "perfectly serviceable electronic art-pop records that scratch the mid-period Arca itch without you having to bust out Arca's 2017 self-titled from the recesses of your memory (both objectivized into digital information and embodied within your brain's storage)". As a side note, Arca's 2017 album may stand as her best full-length altogether, on par with Xen, but since y'all are too busy thinking the KiCK series did anything new or interesting with it, that is clearly a conversation we are not ready for.

The right reasons to like King Crimson are, to be fair, very visible: they are in just about all of their incarnations a great band with lineups consistently featuring great musical performers, stylish wordsmiths and adequate-to-excellent singers/songwriters who produce an output exclusively comprised of records at the very least pleasantly (?) listenable and at the very best life-changing and/or history-altering. Unfortunately that exact problem makes it very easy to be overexposed to their stuff: see the borderline cult that has emerged around In the Court of the Crimson King in people who, sometimes, aren't even that interested in music per se and just sort of stumbled across it via JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Both JoJo's and In the Court I love, rationally, but it has become very hard for me to listen to that part of their discography that's already somewhat sedimented in the public consciousness because you simply hear nothing new, nothing different come out in the discussion of it - if there even is discussion left to do on the matter.

Anyway, both Swans and King Crimson suffer from the same issue to me, i.e. as I said to Dog the other night "I did not gatekeep them enough". Quite the opposite, actually: I spread them around like wildfire and linked the shit out of (what little, at the time, could be found of) their music to any and everyone and it feels absolutely wrong in retrospect. It's obvious that the high school kid who exclusively likes rock music from the '70s and believes Pink Floyd is the pinnacle of recorded history would vibe with a record like To Be Kind which essentially does nothing but weaponise those referents. And both bands' juiciest bits get ignored in favor of a couple moments which may be good or even great, but by now have become essentially sterile. "Dai diamanti non nasce niente…". Most of the bands I actually will discuss over the other parts of this series, on the other hand, have something in common: basically no one I've ever shown them too vibe with them the same way that I do, they don't feel their music deep within their heart of hearts, sometimes they don't even care to give it an actual fair shot.

A number of them also have another thing in common: they didn't immediately click, but in a way they did. When I first listened to (just to name names) Oversteps, or 13 Songs, I was like "this could be awesome" and yet never quite got to the end of the record right away. It was always closer to "eh, I'll check this out later when I'm more attentive" and yet I didn't until I very consciously brought myself to do it, smacking my head against the side of those records or maybe picking a different record from that same artist until all of a sudden I finally got it. Conscious choice makes these bands feel more rewarding. As much as I love, I don't know, the Mars Volta or Aphex Twin, I never felt that I was making an intellectual or even just conscious attempt at getting into them - and discography size doesn't count, it's not a factor as we've already previously discussed, unless it is (i.e. a band has three records out, like for instance Nirvana, whom I really like, too) - whereas it was always more of a really natural thing, as natural as putting my headphones on and vibing. Simple as.

Not all music should be a slog to get through, but by the same logic not all music should be mindless or mindlessly listened to and appreciated. And I tend to favor music that rewards multiple listens, which by nature are never gonna be always as attentive or active as they would be ideally, but it still gives you something to think of, and it's not just background noise even when you want it to be (see Coil's drone records). I will try to detail my relationship with these six bands that I have isolated, trying to stay on topic and not swerve too hard into autobiography, over the course of I suppose an entry each (worst that could happen, two bands might be crushed into the same post like what happened today, if I feel like it makes sense to do so from the standpoint of themes and length).

Re-reading the post after being done with it, I just realized both numbers 0 have one thing in common: they are, or could be seen as, almost an extended solo project of their respective de facto leaders, despite what the two of them have to say. The same could potentially be said of a couple of the bands I've mentioned up above, but I will try to prove that that is very much not the case if we don't impose a very capitalistic/brand-oriented logic that I think is fundamentally at odds with at least three of those six names. I could careen into an autobiographical story specifically about this, but I believe it'd be best kept for one of these other articles. Until then, I will be writing these when I get around to it, no pressure, no big deal.

The idea is as follows: one piece per element in the Bf set, no regular times or days for it. I do it when I want/can, or when something good comes out of me. Deal?

Dragon Lords/Gods of the Mother- Xar

Xar is the youngest of the dragon lords, the last to be born from the soul of the great life dragon that gave its body to give a dead planet life. Arrogant, rude,selfish, and narcissistic to the point that he doesn't think it's possible for the planet to survive without his presence. Having tribe's start wars over his proper depiction or the beliefs that he purposely changed when speaking to them in their dreams.

Xar doesn't care for others,feeling that his duty as the keeper of the world and life wasn't one that had many freedoms. He felt spiteful towards anyone lower than him in his mind,meaning he would manipulate anyone to entertain himself or get what he wants. Be it from mortals or from the very children of his siblings. All that matters to him is that he is given the attention he desires/deserves from the weak souls that couldn't thrive without his protection.

Victim of cruelty/Child of the Pits

Titan(Ember and Stone)is the child of Xar and Dragonpaw, Beast Queen/Demi lord of chaos. Though he refuses to accept that he had anything to do with the conception, his older siblings know otherwise. Banished to another dimension bubble to ensure Xar would be rid of their presence, Ember and Stone made a vow of vengeance. Not just for themselves, but for their mother who suffered from his forceful assault that lead to their birth and their imprisonment. Unknowingly, Xar created his own grim reaper that is only waiting for him to slip up while their mother work silently to free them from their prison.

Titan is the name given to them by Xar, the name used for their mentioning when sending evil souls to their version of hell. The belly of the giant beast holds a whole world inside with several layers that have there own ecosystems/special jobs. The demons and beasts who eat/torture the souls inside their belly are actually the children of Dragonpaw/Their siblings that were slain in battle to then be forced to live inside the tortured body of their own ancient sibling. Thankfully, they have made this life better for Titan by actively caring for their body while ember/stone ensure that they would be able make visits to the outside world where they could talk/play with their siblings along with messages from their mother.

life is difficult for me as a crippled, mentally challenged person on the autistic and schizoid spectrum.i am quite certain that most of my difficulties with thought and communication come as a result of being on anti-psychotic drugs for nearly half of my life. crippling me to such an extent that i can't speak sometimes, my thoughts disorganized and blunted, and my body feeling numb. i want release from this hell. realizing that i will need to change locations and change some of my thinking processes in order to get better. writing my thoughts down helps. and being with other people (or even just communicating digitally) helps. i am alone most of the time and feel the need to stay home because this world is so cruel, society is abusive to people like me. my problems are as much psychological and social as they are chemical. i hope for a time when i can get off medications, and to reclaim my identity as a mad and disabled person. i deserve the best possible social environment. not to say that i am better than other people, but that i want to find a way to connect and grow socially, to thrive in dynamic community and find love.

A DAY LATER my thoughts:

overall theyre fine 👍 NAWT my thing but serviceable, especially because of the circumstances that required the change in the first place. i mentioned yesterday theres some things i really like. and some things i really dont LOL but its okay. all i really hope, and i keep saying this, but i hope we can end up in a zola situation in the future with a bunch of different kinds of designs!

now i do think one of the biggest issues, and part of the reason people are struggling to adjust to the new designs is the facial expressions and how they fit the very character-voice-acted vocals we have in voicevox. particularly with takehiro, kotarou, and sourin. akashi's expression is fine, kohaku is actually kind of cute and expressive, ryuusei is ryuusei (although i prefer his older design's droopier eyes, gives him a sort of baffled blank look). takehiro looks a little too young and sweet and neutral rather than his previous slightly gap-moe resting bitch face to kind of serving face situation. sourin needs to close his eyes HJKFSHJd its fine but it does make him look even younger which feels odd with his wrinkles. kotarou.... this little dude no longer looks dumb as HELL he just looks like a slightly mischievous cutesy boy - he needs a goofier, no thoughts behind his eyes but a lot of heart type expression i think. im curious about how the other facial expressions will look when those are released

of course all that to say, while facial expressions are kind of my wheelhouse if i do say so myself, the artist's rendering, anatomy, and ability to draw clothes are far better than mine could ever be so remember this! different people have different skillsets they thrive with <3 the artist did far better than i could ever attempt!

specific thoughts going from right to left:

well kohaku is a new guy LOL which is fine tbh i wasnt super attached to takuto since he hadnt been released in vv yet. his outfit, pose and expression are pretty great actually. his hair is a little wack? brother we gotta get you a new shampoo whatever you're using now is flattening you............ i also think his hair is a bit busy. i mentioned before i quite like the new name, leans into a fun b&w theme which fits with his connections to takehiro (wannabe rival) and kotarou (peer age-wise who he goofs on).

NOW. his skintone change is growing on me quite a bit (he's a little gray but we can help him. we can help him) BUT. but. akashi and even kotarou getting lightened (just a smidge but very noticeable to me) alongside it is. unfortunate. ends up (likely unconciously) in colourism-y tropes which is a shame. but oh well, i'll keep on drawing akashi in my lowkey south asian biracial coded way anyway so i'll figure things out

jk jk everyone's eyes become brown when i draw them so none of that matters LOL his design is actually pretty good! his outfit is nice i think. his hair is a slightly less difficult to mix in watercolour paint colour now JHKASJFDLSfkjds although all other colours in all the new designs clothes were tailormade to be difficult to paint for me. but thats neither here nor there, just the nature of an analogue artist in a digital world <3 i am gonna miss his random ass scars. im assuming that was an onidaruma original tho so i get they had to go. i think he could use more black or dark gray in his design, maybe a dark brown, i adore his shoes though. actually all the new designs have pretty great-to-decent shoes!

akashi! i already mentioned before they lightened his skin a hair and i dont care for that. his outfit is fine, his hair is also fine (although i miss the volume and weird bishounen-mullet-ness of it all). i dont care for the. monocle? he does look like he was plucked out of a vague fantasy stat-raiser-dating-sim otome game. he looks like you kidnapped a butler from an angelique-like. but thats okay. not my thing, i like the normal gentle guy who dresses like a fashionable grandpa look better. but its okay 👍

ryuusei..... ryuusei.... they took his boobs..... hes fine but he is very drastic compared to akashi and sourin. i dont like the blue hair, im kind of a natural hair colour fiend (especially black and brown hair) and im picky about unnatural hair colours (i dont mind akashi 'cause hes so simple anyway and its one colour. multicolour hair im also picky. sorry kohaku im not drawing that red streak its too many details <3) and i thought the black hair on top with gray hair on the side was so striking in like a low-key but slick streat fashion kind of way. if he has to have blue hair id rather the blue be on the bottom and the black on top LOL. his outfit is kind of wild, the shorts would be okay on someone like takehiro but ryuusei? i dunno man... also a bit too much green and the shoes are a little bland. to me i feel like ryuusei should be trendy in a fashionable and slick kind of way, kotarou and kohaku should be trendy in a flashier way, and sourin and akashi are fashionable in a more timeless way, akashi a little more lowkey. and takehiro should dress in normcore department store clearance clothes but that last part is just in my heart. anyway new ryuusei is okay. hes not very memorable which is unfortunate since his old design is so insanely memorable. his aiv2 is wack in its own way but its so absurd it looped back around to me thinking its awesome (2am rave fit for narration software LOL) so all i can hope is future designs get sillay with him again

kotarou's outfit is pretty great. im getting used to white hair kotarou. im not drawing those black streaks. like i said before i think his expression could be pushed a liiittle more to fit his extremely goofy voice but its pretty solid either way - REALLY love the cat ear hair im a sucker for that design element and also im really bad at drawing hats so this is a relief for me LOL although i mentioned before i thought the ambiguity of his old design with hair covering his ears and wearing a cat eared hat, like does he have ears??? he did but like its a little mysterious gkjfdsajfd but thats okay im happy with cat ear hair. his ears being visible now might make him harder to draw for some is his fans though (im an ear drawing fiend but i know not everyone is <3 )

TAKEHIRO...... hes also fine. i dont like how green the hair is, it makes him a little too monochromatic (thats a problem with ryuusei too) and im not into the necklace or tanktop. i like his jacket way more than i thought based off the silhouette, a varsity jacket is so cute on him. the shoes are simple and good, his outfit is way too green, I DO LOVE the wallet chain+belt+garter situation going on i think takehiro at all times needs to have some kind of hip/thigh thing happening in his design LOL i am glad he was able to keep his incomprehensible eye thing. i dont know what it is. i thought it was a mole but theres a line there too. its his little eye thing <3 im curious for the turnaround later on, will he have his earring. is he allowed to keep his gay little earring. it looks like akashi lost his......

but yeah takehiro looks okay, not my thing again and i think hes one of the weaker of the new designs but its fine. i have seen people call original genbu "bara" which is insane though LOL like yeah hes not a stick-like waif but thats barely even a twunk. he would be laughed out of the magazine. barazoku readers would pan him so bad. his new design has no meat on him whatsoever though so i understand. i like him with a little more something on him, like a guy who goes to the gym On Occasion like his old design rather than not at all yknow.... but in the end its fine

sorry i needed to get that all out HJKDHJFElkdafjdk im largely gonna stick with the old designs (outside of our new friend kohaku) but i do think it'd be fun to try out morphing a middle ground between the two... and in the end it needed to happen and the virvox guy + the artist he hired seemed to have done their best with the situation at hand. i do wanna emphasize my favourite parts, at least:

takehiro's leg accessories, kotarous hairstyle and outfit, sourins shoes, kohaku's pose and expression - those things really stood out to me!

Trying to replace my main PC with a raspberry pi, it's an interesting (painful) experience.

So, because I don't do too many super computer intensive things very often, I thought I would cut back on some power consumption and replace my gaming PC with a smaller, less power hungry device, at least for lighter tasks.

My specific device is a Raspberry Pi 4 model B with four gigs of RAM, CPU overclocked to 2 gigahertz and GPU overclocked to 850 megahertz. I had to do this to get any acceptable results. Already not good.

There are three things I use my machine for for the most part: Discord, Youtube, social media. Sounds easy enough, nothing too stressful on any machine these days, right?

First problem: Discord. There is no native client for raspberry pi. Discord is built for the x86/x64 CPU architecture, which is what basically every single desktop computer or laptop runs. The raspberry pi, on the other hand, is built on ARM, an architecture used for devices like smartphones, tablets and some chromebooks.

While it is true that there is a discord client for mobile devices, those typically run Android. The raspberry pi primarily runs Linux.

But there's good news, a solution! There is an unofficial client for Discord that works on the pi known as "Webcord". One problem with that, though. Discord runs on electron, basically a Chrome browser wrapper for apps, in this case being used specifically to run Discord.

Well, as it turns out, Webcord is exactly the same thing, but even worse. The Discord app is aware whether it's in a web browser or being run as the electron app, allowing the electron app version to enable features such as desktop streaming.

Webcord is literally just a copy of chrome designed to run nothing but Discord. Oh well, same idea, right? Well, Discord through webcord believes it's being run in a browser, not as an app. Not a big deal, though. It functions, I can live without streaming.

Second issue: Youtube. It works, but it can't handle 60 FPS video all that well. Whatever, I can live with 30 FPS, I've been a console gamer all my life, I'm used to it.

Third issue: Social media. It's really not that much of an issue. I use two social media services, Spacehey and Tumblr, and both work without issue. Tumblr does struggle a little bit, but whatever, no big deal.

Overall, it's not the worst desktop experience, though I did have to overclock the device a bit to get any halfway decent results.

Is it a perfect desktop experience? No, not in the slightest.

Am I gonna continue to be a stubborn bitch and continue to use it? Yes, I am

Hey I’m about to send a really long message, but I’d really appreciate getting a quick, honest response.

I’m in law school and in a few weeks I’m presenting to a law firm about how they need to take artists and their legal rights more seriously, and I’d also like to mention how they need to support smaller creators in more niche groups.

Specifically, I want to pitch to them that it would be financially viable for them to start working with smaller artists who sell their own art as merchandise. In my opinion, people shouldn’t be able to steal art from other creators, but I’m aware that most lawyers only see creators as “starving artists” and aren’t willing to go through the process of helping artists learn their rights. On the other hand, artists think that the legal process will be too expensive and time consuming, so it’s not worth it to pursue the art thieves beyond asking for help from fans.

I’d love to hear your experiences with art theft or anything about how small creators can/can’t thrive in the market today. Just any opinions you may have. Also if you know any other digital artists or small business owners who might have experiences even remotely related to anything I’ve touched on, I’d love to talk to them too.

oh i’ve experienced tons of theft and i think most artists who make merch have as well. one of the more common thefts is enamel pins — factories will sell off lower quality versions that they can’t send directly to the maker, or an old pin mold, or factories will just take pics of existing enamel pins and run them through live trace to make knockoffs. if you haven’t already, you should look into tuesday bassen and the other artists who had their pin designs stolen by zara. they were ultimately able to prove damages because their names/logos were on the backside of the pin and zara removed those identifiers. it’s why i always recommend that anyone who wants to make enamel pins should put their artist name/logo on the back.

currently, my most stolen pin designs are these elemental girls:

they constantly turn up as knock offs on aliexpress, wish, and similar places, but the quality isn’t nearly as good and they always exclude the earth pin because it’s too difficult to replicate (there are a lot of small fills in this design, which is difficult and, as the maker/buyer, expensive). they’re stolen so commonly that if you google “elemental girl enamel pin” you can find not only my originals, but tons of knockoffs, and every time i get one listing taken down, five more pop up elsewhere.

knockoffs like these are disheartening both because my work is being stolen, but also because it is being done so poorly. it really makes my art look like shit. i’m lucky in that i am no longer struggling as an artist so knockoffs like these, while annoying, are not that damaging to me. when i was younger and extremely broke, it was a different story, especially when the work being ripped off was much more… personal.

i used to make short hashtag relatable comics about myself/my life and this one in particular became very popular and was constantly ripped off/stolen — i’ve seen it on bags, water bottles, shirts, and all manner of other products. i’ve seen it used to promote other people’s projects and social media presences (all without credit or permission). and ofc it’s been copied, referenced, and edited to hell and back. i don’t usually super mind people using my work as reference as long as they credit me. but with this particular comic, it is extremely grating to, time and again, see people take a comic about my relationship with my fat body and change it to be fitspo or midsize positive or whatever else — and ofc none of them give credit until prompted by ppl who recognize my work as the skeleton.

if you create, you're an artist

we're starting to write our teaching philosophies in my art education class rn so excuse me while i go on a little bit of a ramble

I am a firm believer in the fact that anyone can be an artist. If you find joy and purpose in what you make, congrats! You're an artist. I don't care if it's a huge realism painting that could rival the Mona Lisa, a crochet blanket project you made as a gift, a lopsided bowl you made in ceramics, or even a throwaway doodle on a napkin at a restaurant. If you made it, and you found joy in it, it's art in my eyes and you're an artist.

I've had family members try and argue with me that art is some magical talent people are born with and they'd never be able to obtain the level of skill that I'm at. I say "not with that attitude." I believe that with the right tools and access to learning, anyone can learn to create. You can learn to draw, to paint, to knit, or crochet. You can learn ceramics and sculpting. You can learn. It takes a lot of practice and time to become a "master" at it, but that's how any skill works. I didn't pop out of the womb holding a paint brush and pallete and immediately be able to produce fully rendered semi-realistic paintings like I can now. Hell, I couldn't even do that a few years ago! It took most of my life messing around and practicing to get anywhere near as good as I am now. And guess what? I'm still learning and practicing. But we all start somewhere. It's the passion to create and the tools made available to us that allow us to thrive and grow as artists.

Sure, to some extent I know that some people are able to see color in different ways or have a better imagination. But if you don't, that doesn't mean you can't do art. Literally everyone sees the world differently. Some people are more go-with-the-flow thinkers, while some are more analytical. Some people jump right into an art project with no plan, others plan things out down to every single brush stroke. Maybe that means you don't do art as a career, but that doesn't mean you're not an artist. You can be both a lawyer and an artist, a doctor and an artist, a mathematician and an artist, a cashier and an artist. You can be anything and an artist.

Another thing about art is how many options there are. Painting, ceramics, print making, jewelry making, sculpture, photography, digital art, knitting. The list goes on and within those categories, there's more categories! For example, painting can be broken down into so many different types of paint: oil, acrylic, watercolor, gauche, and probably more. But my point is, if one medium doesn't work for you, there's a ton more options to pick from. That's the beauty of art. Let's say you're really struggling with painting realism. Proportions and colors just are lining up the way you want. You can't get the right angle and nothing looks right. Well, before you throw everything down in frustration and quit all art forever... might I suggest photography? Using a camera would allow you to still play with angles and color (or even black and white) while keeping those proportions just the way you want. You could explore different lens types or mess around with film. It's a whole new medium to explore. Or if you want to give painting another shot, there's a way to take photos and make an exact copy of said photo using grid lines on to a canvas to keep those same proportions. And color mixing can be thought of like a science in a way.

Anyways, do you see what I'm getting at?

There's many different ways to approach the teaching of art to make it accessible and fun. So even if you think you can't do it, a good teacher will help you find a way that makes sense.

Art is so versatile and there's literally no wrong answers or any wrong way to do it. It's all subjective. It's all open ended. It's meant to be fun and a way for people to express themselves, connect to others, and communicate without even speaking a word. There's an infinite amount of ways to play with mediums in art. You can start whenever and however you want. With enough time and practice you can make what you want. And if you're hesitant to start on the grounds of thinking you're not an artist I'm here to tell you that you're wrong.

Anyone can be an artist.
