hi y'all, sorry posts have been slower and i've been a little inactive - i have commissions to work on and im trying to save energy before art fight starts. y'all should absolutely follow me on there, my user is fivefivefive !!!! i also want to say thank you so much for more than 1000 likes on the leafpool drawing, i don't think i've ever received that much attention online for any of my art, so it means a lot to me :) i'm thinking of doing another drawing of her so stay tuned.

i want to share some more art evolution, this time with jayfeather. like i said in the original post, he's like my favorite character and probably the warriors character i've drawn the most over the years (that might be hollyleaf actually now that i think about it? i'm not sure and i'm not going to count). i have earlier doodles of him - for some reason i thought the whole thing with him and the stick was the funniest thing in the world in middle school? idk but i'm not going to pull all those out. this post is going to be super long get ready

i absolutely think that there are problems with how his disability was handled in the series - while his role as a medicine cat is really interesting and he's great in that position, especially with the clash of his personality with that job and him learning to be more empathetic is wonderful, i like to think that if he were a new character today he could have been a warrior which would have been really cool to see.

2018 - i think he and brightheart had an interesting dynamic. it sucks they never let her have another apprentice because she's a really cool character and would have been perfect for that like why wasn't hollyleaf assigned to her??? like what message does that send?? maybe it wasn't on purpose, but i think it's another reflection of some pretty poor choices in the series handling disability. i think i drew this while i was in class or something, i did that a lot in middle school.

thankfully something weird happened and it wouldn't let me upload the entire image because the whole thing is actually embarrassing as hell because i drew a very 2018-looking person in the center. this is a really early drawing of jayfeather of mine from 2018 (i want to say in like october or something of that year?).

the whole gang, i think from 2018. i'm pretty sure these were meant to be cut out and put in the shrine too, this one might even be older than the one before this, oops. i don't think i really knew much about dovewing and ivypool at this point, i think what i did know was from the "life's too short" map on youtube, which i don't think i got a great explanation of their story from even though it's so good such a classic

late 2018 - early 2019 i think. i very consistently drew jayfeather with this design (as well as lion and holly) or a variation of it, as can be seen in the next few drawings

i was kinda always a fan of jayfeather and kestrelflight !?!?!?!! their personalities are so different so they're like sweet and i think medicine cats should be happy together (jayfeather is bi with a preference for boys what who said that?????)

omg this is from the au where thornclaw switches places with brightheart and he mentors jayfeather for a little while and they just argued the whole time. great dynamic i think lmao. from 2019 i believe

in the au he later becomes the apprentice of brackenfur who is medicine cat (leafpool was a warrior and mentored by cinderpelt, who was also a warrior, having switched places with bracken), and i think jayfeather really looked up to brackenfur. idk another issue with cinderpelt becoming a medicine cat perhaps against her will, though i've seen they handled it better in the graphic novel and that's really great. she could have had a really interesting role in jayfeather's life having gone through what she did, so his dynamic with brackenfur in her position is also pretty interesting.

2019 sometime i think? leafpool dying was like right when i got out of warriors for a little while. i wasn't a fan of that honestly. this was before squirrelflight's super edition came out and the whole situation was explained, so everyone was FREAKED because leafpool wasn't in the allegiances anymore in the preview for whatever book that was (it was like a brand new arc, not the most recent one but the one with bristlefrost, is it broken code??? i seriously don't know im so sorry i swear im a fan of these books lmao). what a time to be alive.

skip ahead to summer 2020, part of the evil leafpool au i came up with when i was bored. everyone had dark colors like why?????

2021, there's like a big batch of these i did to post on my old instagram page. rip to that account, i was too scared to post warrior cats on there. starting to get more detailed in designs

september 2022 i think. very cute awwwwwwwwww. i headcannoned that kestrelflight had vitiligo here i think, and yes i think that still. i like this design of him too he cuteeeee (i want to draw him rn i may just do that when im done with this post lmao)

may 2023 - OMG yes i did make a warrior jayfeather au when i was bored sometime i guess. this is the only time i ever drew it though i think lmao, it's basically all written there. he has a very dark design here too, i kinda like it. he is a complete rip off of daredevil from marvel - like he literally fit that perfectly, he could have had dovewing's powers and be like super powerful lmao. but i have a HUGE document somewhere where i tried to like rewrite the whole PO3 series, who wants to see it maybe i'll share it sometime omg???

ok that's actually all i have i thought there was more - i know i have doodles somewhere else but i'm not searching every canvas on procreate for those, and they're not colored in either so it wouldn't be interesting. he's clearly a beloved character to me so i really enjoyed making this one.

jayfeather has a very important role in the discussion of handling disability in fiction i think, though i can't say i'm a writer or an expert in any of this, so if i've overstepped in that discussion with this post i sincerely apologize and tell me! (i'm trying my best to avoid discourse and stating my opinion on this series, though i think these issues have been discussed a great deal so i'm just a little voice in the crowd i hope) i don't want to speak too much about who i am personally, i want to remain as anonymous as i can on here, but i'll say i understand these issues from friends + family + loved ones - good representation matters and can make a huge difference!!!!

he is actually the whole reason i got into warrior cats. i watched the little fang map and i thought he was really interesting so i started reading power of 3 and here we are 8 years later

i love jayfeather and i seriously think he could have been amazing as a warrior and a rip off of daredevil 🙈

Hi it's time for Glass's Random AU Hour.

So I talked before about an idea I had where everyone in the party remembers all of the loops from the beginning, thus beginning a new flavor of torment for Loop, but it got me thinking about one other concept.

Loop's wish was for help, yes, but also for the loops to be over, for escape. So what if, once they end up in ISAT, they don't remember the loops anymore?

(Does this make much sense given how Loop's Wish seems to have worked? Not really, but it's an interesting hypothetical so we're rolling with it for at least this one post.)

They know their own loops happened, they're still a star, and since I'm really nice they still remember ISAT Siffrin's Loop 0, so they aren't constantly doing the opening tutorial. And I can't be so mean as to leave ISAT Siffrin actually alone in the loops, just with a weird star person who knows about the timeloops but can't remember them. (If someone else wants to be that mean, have fun and also share with me I do like intense angst even when I am not strong enough to make it myself.)

So I'd only do this in conjunction with the above where everyone in the party also remembers.

And god, the first time the party loops back and Siffrin goes to talk to Loop? And he realizes that Loop doesn't remember, even though they thought they would? Oh it's gonna get messy, depending on how things go. If Siffrin isn't careful about how he reacts Loop is gonna realize what's happening and freak out. What do you mean this is Loop 2 and not 1 Stardust??? That's isn't possible???

But, if Siffrin picks up on things fast enough, well, we all know how Siffrin reacts to someone no being in the know. They don't say anything about it! They go back to the rest of the party like, "Hey uh, so apparently Loop doesn't remember last time? Just the first go round? So that's a problem."

Loop does still see everything Siffrin does and has to give them the Memories though, so regardless of if Siffrin tells them outright, Loop is going to figure out what's happening. I figure eventually Siffrin makes enough progress to facilitate Loop giving the call option, but I feel like maybe they'd be more willing to have longer chats inside the House than in canon, because, well, they can't have it at the Favor Tree without Siffrin taking a bunch of time to fill Loop in. Plus the added factor of Siffrin not having to hide the call from the party.

Odile adds Loop to her pile of things to figure out (like she wouldn't do that in any story where she's looping XD), but at some point she is going to suggest Loop just come with them to the House. And that's gonna be a whole new can of worms.

This whole idea is like "how do we make being out of Loops Still Somehow The Torment Nexus?"

I finally made time to listen to this and I am so glad I did. Let's dive straight in, shall we?

This was my very first time hearing your voice, and I feel the need to point out what a pleasant voice you have, Alex! And I do mean this in the most sincere way, coming from someone who can be very very picky about what voices to listen to. I know this wasn't the point of the podcast, but I had to let you know :)

I took notes while listening, so I'll just be going through them and kind of sort them into something more tangible as I go.

It was awesome getting to hear so many "behind the scene" thoughts from you about your writing. There were a couple of small things you mentioned that I wanted to comment on just for the fun of it:

Something that draws you to a fanfiction is if characters are canonically written. It's funny you should say that, because your characters are some of the most in-tune-with-canon characters that I have ever read. I've mostly consumed your Dean stories, and even in an AU setting (I'm looking at you, Smoke Eater) he is 100% Dean as seen on the show. As far as fanfiction goes, that puts yours on a pedestal imo.

You considered doing something with Dean and Yellowstone for the Jacklesverse Bingo. (insert gif of me hysterically crying and hyperventilating) I've only just started watching Yellowstone this year and I am obsessed. I think you would have fried all my synapses if you had gone down that road, in the best way possible 😁

Hearing you talk about your friends on Tumblr and knowing you've included me in that group felt so so special! I'm so proud to be able to call you my friend on here. 🥹🫶🏼

But now! On to the actual topic of the episode :)

First of all, I found it very interesting that despite your own heritage, you grew up with a white reader in mind. Just goes to show how predominantly a white person is and has been the main character in so much of media that that's what your brain defaulted to.

I also thought your discussion about what makes an OC an OC and where a reader insert stops being a reader insert suuuper interesting. Because that's a genuine question! Where does a blank slate stop being a blank slate, and how much character do you have to give to the reader role in a reader insert fic for the story still to work, right? I loved to hear your take on it, especially where you said that writing reader inserts is basically like writing OCs without giving them a name. - I had never thought about it that way!

But of course, you're right. Because a reader that is an active participant in a story can't be a completely blank slate. They have to be assigned certain traits, not necessarily body-wise but character wise - if you're doing more than a drabble, imo. For there to be dialogue and a story that feels full, that feels alive, the reader has to have some sort of character to be a character.

Which brings me to my next point: projectability is always a thing of perspective and the ability to put yourself into someone's shoes. As far as fanfiction goes, the reader insert genre tries to make that as easy as possible by offering a mostly blank slate (that is very often white-coded, unfortunately, but that's not the point I'm trying to make in this paragraph). I have seen people complain more than once about the character!reader being unrelatable because of certain character traits and/or backstories that were assigned to them, and I wonder: people, where has your media literacy gone? Do they not teach to adapt to a person's perspective via literature in schools anymore? Must all media cater exactly to your every taste, down to each very nuance?

And I write all of this distinctively separating characteristic traits from body traits. I am not at all talking about the lack of ethnic representation within the x reader genre.

I love how you give personality to your reader characters, Alex. Especially when it comes to your own representation. You said in the podcast that you were worried about how the traits you assigned to your reader in the Midnight Espresso-verse would be received by your audience and that you received great feedback. I want to reiterate that by saying how despite myself not having the same background as you, I could absolutely relate to the plus-size aspect of the reader, as well as her love for cooking. You said it so beautifully in the podcast, that this version of the reader is one that came from the intent of Dean having a (Latino) girlfriend that nurtured him in the same way he nurtures the people around him, and I fully 100% could relate to that as well :)

Which might be my very complicated and long way of saying: Please do not worry about how much the reader can adapt to the traits you're giving to the character!reader. If most character!readers have been predominantly white for the longest time and so so many people that where not white made it work, then so can we white folks when we are given a reader that does not fit all of "our" typical criteria.

It made me very happy to hear that you're seeing more and more diversity within the SPN fandom these days. I've spent most of my time in the PPCU fandom this past year and all across it, but specifically in the Joel Miller fandom, there have been too many racist instances. It's great to hear that it's going better in other fandoms!

Which brings me to my next point - the anon request you got that led you to writing Unravel Me 👀 Wow. I haven't read it yet. It was on my TBR list anyway, but hearing you talk about how it came to be and how much thought you put into it (understandably so) it's now an absolute must-read for me. (Sort of unrelated but still related: I've seen your playlist covers for the story, and - wow??? A masterpiece??? Visually, I mean?! The EFFORT. I'll be speaking about this in a second, but I needed to mention it now in case I forget! Gorgeous!)

Another point that had me thinking a lot was the question about how much of an immigrant's identity should be kept and how much should be adapted to the country they've moved to also captivated me. I know US politics in regards to immigrants are ""problematic"" atm to say the least, and it's been a widely discussed topic over here in Germany for years now as well, especially with the heavy influx of immigrants over the past years. I can't imagine how complicated it must be, figuring out a sense of self that both fits to where you live and still keeps the core parts of who you are and were before coming to said country.

I want to wrap this up by saying how incredibly impressed I am every single time I hear/read about how you prep for your stories. I think you are by far the most in-depth fanfiction writer that I know. You put so much research into it, and not just for The Honorable Choice, but everything you put out. I'm struggling to find the correct words to properly express how admiring I find it, especially for a story like The Honorable Choice where you take on the perspective of someone of a different ethnic background than you.

You are an inspiration, Alex. Truly.

Island Moominvalley AU thingy/sketches from class

Heyo, I finally remembered posting these sketches I made in class two months ago. I made these when I was feeling horrible, and I took to my sketchbook during class to deal with what was happening in my life. My grandma had just landed in the hospital during the first-semester exam period, and oh boy, you bet I was distraught. She is doing much better now, by the way. Don't worry.

I honestly love how easy it is to remember how to draw Siffrin without a reference. It helps me draw without having to think.

(Btw, au ideas are the complete bottom of the post if you want to read about it!)

So, from the top, the chronological order I made the sketches.

As my first drawing, I was just sketching a little guy that wasn't supposed to be Siffrin yet. Halfway, it did become Siffrin, but I drew him with both eyes because I was going off on instinct. At the end of the sketch, I was really confused as to why Siff felt off until I started on the second drawing and realised they had an eyepatch! So, first sketch siff became pre-canon siff. His original hair colour is already well on its way of coming through. Compared to my recent comic, Siff, this is much closer to the Sadness Incident. (Maybe around the time the party meets Bonnie?)

Siffrin is squinting because he is trying to read something but the lack of depth makes it hard. They look a little angry but Siff is wholly unaware they are making that face. And since this is after the game events, they do not have their hat to hide their face behind.

I drew Snufkin right under simply because I remembered how similar Snufkin and Siffrin are in design, which is not a surprise since insertdisc5 said that in the later stages of designing Siff, there was a vast Snufkin trend going on tumblr. I didn't have any grayscale markers on me at the time so I created depth and greys by hatching. It's interesting how different the grayscale shades on Snufkin and Siffrin are since Siffrin is almost entirely in black and white, and Snufkin, when turned into black and white, is made out of grey shades.

On the right is an older Snufkin or an attempt at a design for an older Snufkin. Then, I remembered the ideas spooking in my head about an AU where Snufmin from Moomins were Siffrin's parents before the whole Island shebang happened. More about that later.

Different stages of life for Siffrin before the Island Incident. I always admire people who can design a character ageing and them looking different but still recognisable enough to be that character. So I took a crack at that, with the top being toddler Siff, the left kid Siff and the right teen Siff. Teen Siff took more influence from Loop. But that isn't really surprising if you have completely finished the game.

A family portrait with baby Siff and two very proud fathers. (I forgot to colour it in இ௰இ.) Snufkin is much shorter than Moomintroll, but I realised I had drawn the heights wrong afterwards. The top of Snufkin's head usually meets the height of Moomin's chin.

Btw I did not come up with the Snufmin as Siffrin's parents' idea. I saw an author on AO3 who came up with it first, and I was really inspired by it. I can't really find the fic anymore. I think about it almost daily. (I am writing a fic about it, but it's getting so long, help. Why must school be so harsh? I just want to work on that and NPLH)

I'm not that sure about my design for Moomintroll yet, but I do know I want him to have a fun curly moustache (you can see a sketch I didn't ink all the way at the top of the post, and I like it, but it can have more features of his Moomin form in there. I should have drawn regular Moomin next to him for reference, but I forgot.)

AU rambling part

My rough concept for Island Mooiminvalley is that Moominvalley is not necessarily the entire island. The original northern country is a string of islands with diverse cultures, and Moominvalley was a part of that. (The capital could almost be considered its separate thing for how advanced their technology was)

It follows the canon of Moomins pretty closely (except that they are human) until Moomintroll and Snufkin get together in adulthood and have Siffrin. Snufkin is still a traveller, which is an inherent part of where he is from on the other part of the island. In contrast, Moominvalley is a homebody (except for some residents like Moominpapa.)

So Snufkin travels all over and comes home during Spring to spend time in Moominvalley and with his family. Moomintroll stays at home half the time but also works as a carpenter around the place (and makes sure no parks are created in Snufkin's absence). He wears his father's passed-down pouldrons as inheritance, as wearing a piece of your parents is tradition when they retire. The ribbon tying his hair is from Moominmama. (Moominpapa would hold onto his top hat too much to give it to Moomin. The pouldrons are from his military service. Although if he really served in the military of the Island or if it was a trinket from his travels is unknown)

Siffrin grows up being inspired by Snufkin and wants to be like him when they grow up. Curious and excited about exploring the world. Moomintroll was against this at first (if you don't know Moomins/Moominvalley, it's because Moomintroll has abandonment issues and yearns a lot for Snufkin to return. Like a whole damn lot. Siffrin really takes after Moomintroll in that regard, XD (heh, not that funny,. More sad with what happens in game)

Eventually, he relents, and as a rite of passage, Siffrin is sent off by his parents and the entirety of the valley on their first voyage. (Something about letting your hair grow long when you stay somewhere long and cutting it when you wander again in Snufkin's culture, so Siffrin cuts their hair short and gives it to fathers to remember them by. So freshly wiped memory Siff has short hair)

In the middle of the ocean on their way to Vanguard, the tragedy of the Island struck, and they washed ashore, unable to remember their entire lives. Only a few belongings remained as the waves swallowed up most of them.

What happened to the Island? What happened to Moominvaley? To Siff's forgotten parents? I am keeping that for my fic ^_^

A passing comment: something said without thinking: an unintended promise of what was to come.

My aunt used to tell me about a library hidden deep under the castle…

(It had been spoken carelessly - he ignores the fact that he had spent hours agonizing over how to finally open up, share a part of himself.)

Had Ominis known what those fated words would lead to, he would have kept it all shut inside, as he was wont to do. Why had he opened up to Sebastian? And besides, he knew what Sebastian was like. Recklessly obstinate, purposely obtuse when he didn’t want to listen, searching for a blasted cure like a dog worrying a bone. It was all Sebastian could think about. And Ominis, in his selfish desire to have Sebastian see him, maybe see a small sliver of the person he hadn’t seen all year - not since her curse - hadn’t considered how his words would be taken.

This is so sweet omg thank you 🥹💕 I'm actually in the process of outlining how I want the story in the AU to go so yeah, I'm definitely continuing it! Figuring out Hyacinthus' personality is a bit tricky because of how little we have of him in canon (and also kind of because of the whole premise of this AU) but it's coming along 🫡

Considering it's a popular headcanon... does Peri have any disabilities of his own in the Nature AU? Might help him better help out Dev with his problems.

I headcanon that he has weak joints, probably something like Joint Hypermobility Syndrome or Hypermobile EDS? Something that causes the connective tissue of his joints to just, not be that good.

His joints hurt often and physical exertion is a lot more taxing on him than it is for most other people or fairies.
