Need a name for a large pre-raids South Pole settlement, for reasons. Looking for alternatives to Wolf Cove because that name is laaaame, it doesn't even acknowledge hybrid animals.

Male DC writers shouldn't ever write SA
I hear you and I share your pain, however clearly telling them they shouldn't be allowed to write SA wouldn't work considering I don't think most of them even realize they're writing SA- they drink the rape justification cool aid every morning for breakfast. (also if we forbid them it means we wouldn't allow male victims to talk about their experience which isn't the point either.)
I think there should be an editor at DC who's a trauma specialist, actually there should be two consultants, one for child abuse and one for sexual violence, like they're professionals with a degree in that field.
And I think the sexual violence consultant's whole job at dc should be to drop from the ceiling, land kicking the shit out of writers like this, shouting "you wrote rape and didn't admit it" and then putting them in the headlock until they agree to take the justificative arguments and victim-blaming elements out of the narrative, as well as the eventual (frequent) racism elements, and acknowledge it as rape either explicitly or implicitly in the story and explicitly in interview. And if they refuse, the specialist should just get to veto the entire story and give the writer a strike, and then at strike three marv wolfman gets fired

fucking infuriating that governor Walz's solution to a failing local economy in South St. Paul is to force civil servants to commute to jobs that can 100% be performed remotely.
do we care about the additional commute time, the extra cars on the road, the pollution, the accidents, the cost of gas, the parking fees, the crowding? no. because fuck you. and local Republicans are rejoicing, ignorant to the fact that all this is going to end up costing more taxpayers' dollars.
our state government, and the crucial services it provides to those who need them, is nothing without the civil servants who make it possible. and yet, the human element is always secondary to Line Go Up. pathetic.

there’s such an interesting overlap with sociology and healthcare. like the difference in the way people from different ethnicities and cultures interact with healthcare systems is so evident and the way things like cultural values, beliefs and language barriers affects health outcomes and population health. I feel like there’s so much work that could be done there. I would actually love to go into policy or public health

do you think EoW’s plot - specifically Null’s motive of “i was already living in this void and the goddesses just showed up and created reality and tried to kick me out” being framed as a bad thing - is in the same pro-colonialism vein as your issues with TotK?
Good question! My instinct would be a tentative nnnnno? For a number of reasons, but I do want to return to the game and reread the actual text before committing to this opinion. But from memory, I think the core difference, to me, is that Null had a complete hegemony over reality, fully rejecting change and life in it's every form (so the start of the story in that context is Null being in control of everything, instead of Hyrule being in control of everything/wanting to control everything), and demanding total compliance to non-existence from everything else. I think this reading on the pantheon places the Goddesses as a force of resistance to nothingness, which I think has very interesting implications for the magic system and how, in their own attempt to maintain their creation of life, they may have ostracized everything that wanted to question the set of rules they had put into place in turn. It's not canon or anything, but I do think it's (quite honestly) a far more interesting origin story than the Hylia/Demise debacle (even if it can be understood under this lens also, which would make it more interesting to me).
But yeah, to me, Null had imagery that was very reminscent of cancer, of consumption and destruction for its own sake. I doooon't think it makes as much sense to read it in a political way? As Null is a single entity, completely disconnected from culture and community and society, and more-so as the personification of a natural phenomenon of death and stillness and negentropy in my opinion (which I think they wanted Ganondorf to be as well, but this fails imo because he starts off as a man with man-like preoccupations, and his aspirations are about gaining absolute agency --implying he doesn't start having that agency, and it's his very political and social circumstances that push him towards trying to gain that level of power in a world that is hyper-hostile to him simply... maintaining the power he started with --especially in TotK, you could argue he didn't have to swear fealty to Hyrule in OoT, we just don't know enough about the political backstory in the Myth Era to make definitive judgement, but even still he had very mortal pressures that motivated his envy and anger)
Anyway, I need to return to my Many Screenshots of the conversations in EoW that seemed relevant to make sure I am convinced by the reading of the game I tentatively argued for here (and especially reread the Goddesses' and Null's perspective on all that), but I hope this is an interesting first step at least!

makes me kind of sad whenever MB rebukes itself for spending time watching media instead of writing code/making contingencies/assessing threats. Because like, for any human that would just be downtime. No one expects a person to be at work 24/7 constantly doing things. But anything MB sees as a preventable outcome it takes as a personal transgression that indicates a system failure (or itself just doing a 'half-assed' job). Like in some instances, its like yeah why are you watching Sanctuary Moon on a hostile ship buddy we don't have time for that, but also it's a contracted worker? Just because it's not human doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to take breaks, and have time off being a security consult, and have leisure time.

Obsessed with the way Evadne's relationship with Apollo is described. Obsessed with the way Apollo was especially gentle with her because she was sheltered, hidden away and hadn't had any sort of experience with love prior to Apollo (and due to it being described as her 'first learning Aphrodite's joy' through Apollo', it was probably her first time even being attracted to someone). Obsessed with the way when she runs away, she stops in a violet patch to give birth. Y'know, violets, very famously the flower so strongly associated with Aphrodite that they were used in love potions? Those violets. Obsessed with the way that when Apollo realised his lover was going to have to deliver their child alone, he sent BOTH the goddess of childbirth and ALL THREE OF THE FATES to help and support her. Obsessed with the way that Apollo sends snakes to feed his baby honey straight from their fangs because Evadne abandons their son out of straight primal fear when her stepfather finds her and how the description of that honey is 'sweet venom' [ἰός] of the bees and is DEFINITELY a poetic pair/pun with [ἴον] aka violets and that every single thing about this relationship, conception and birth is a complete and utter fairytale down to Evadne's insanely overprotective stepfather having an immediate change of heart when he learned Evadne's child was an actual, legitimate Son of Apollo and the babe, after being cared for by his dad's honey-fanged snake buddies, was found perfectly healthy five days later swaddled in a blanket of violets (y'know the flowers so strongly associated with Aphrodite that they were used for lo-) and they called him Iamus aka Boy of the Violets which is AAAAAARRRR I AM GNAWING AT MY ENCLOSURE
Iamus was made of love. Everything about him was surrounded by deep and profound love and like, let's not even talk about his whole Thing of when he came of age and was like "I need to find out what my purpose is" and he literally had a Disney Protagonist moment where he ran out into the wilds and was like "Father!! Grandfather!! Tell me what I'm supposed to doooo!!" and then APOLLO FUCKING ANSWERED AND LED HIM TO ONE HIS TEMPLES ENTIRELY BY TALKING WITH IAMUS AND LETTING HIM FOLLOW HIS VOICE FOR THE WHOLE JOURNEY LIKE -
What do y'all know about the kind of SSS tier romantic escapades Apollo had fr?
#ginger rambles#NO BECAUSE WHAT DO Y'ALL KNOW ABOUT APOLLO AND EVADNE FR#They're a MAD underrated couple and their story is what everyone wishes Hades/Persephone was#Evadne actually WAS sheltered and overprotected because she was a daughter of Poseidon explicitly given to Aepytus to watch over#And Aepytus to his credit wasn't actually a bad man or anything he just took his job very very seriously#Super pious guy - even though he was positively incandescent when he found out Evadne was pregnant he didn't hit her or anything#He just was like “Get me my HORSE I am going to consult the GODS about my DAUGHTER'S HARLOTRY”#Evadne was fucking terrified of him though she hid that pregnancy like her life depended on it#And the minute she heard horse hooves even though she had just finished giving birth she dropped Iamus like he was molten and fucking ran#I could only imagine Aepytus having set up a baby shower or something cause he was overjoyed by the oracle and Evadne gets home thinking#she's going to get Dungeon'd only for Aepytus to hug her and be like “You should've told me you were seeing Apollo sob emoji sob emoji”#God I'm sure Evadne had a bunch of trauma to work through with her stepfather changing his whole entire attitude on a complete#Apollo doesn't directly interfere with their lives after Iamus is born up until Iamus comes looking for him but he was definitely keeping#a very close eye on them all through their lives#Ugh I'm sick I'm so sick in the head thinking about them#apollo#evadne#iamus#greek mythology#ginger chats about greek myths

Friends. Mutuals. Followers. Internet strangers. Back up your data every so often. at the very least back up the drive your OS is on because theres not much more stressful than sitting down at your computer after work one day to find out that your computer straight up can't read anything from your boot drive anymore
