my favourite thing abt studying korean at a japanese university is that even when i speak to my classmates outside of class they still insist on speaking in korean.
whats even better is, even if they switch to english or japanese they still attach the korean honorific 씨 (ssi) to my name?? instead of using -san or nothing at all???
ITS ADORABLE?????

It’s nice to know that some things are NOT just social or cultural constructs and are truly indelible, no matter how hard some people try to claim that male and and female are interchangeable and how the differences between the sexes are something we made up and there’s no link to behaviors or patterns beyond what we learn in the culture we grew up in etc…
Because I texted multiple different Korean friends practically in tears about how much I hate the fact that the Korean language has two number systems.
And the GIRLS were all like, “Oh my gosh, you are SO right! It’s so dumb! I’m sorry our stupid language did this to you, if I could I’d go back in time and fight whoever is responsible for this nightmare.”
And the GUYS were all like, “Yeah, it’s annoying, but let me create a cheat sheet for you so you know which system to use in which situation, and here are a bunch of counter words that you’ll want to use and the context in which you’re going to use them.”
The Korean and American cultures are so very different, but if you go crying to a Korean girl she’s still going to try to comfort you, and if you go crying to a Korean guy he’s still going to try and solve your problems for you.
People are the same, the whole world ‘round.

Oct 2, 2023 ・❥・Week 1 Day 2 of prepolygot’s Langblr Reactivation Challenge
Write a list of goals you have for your target languages. Make both long-term and short-term goals. An overall goal could be the ability to talk with a native speaker with ease and a smaller goal would be to finally learn that difficult grammar point that's been plaguing you for ages. How will you achieve them?
Non-Langauge Specific Goals
Watch and listen to more movies, shows, music and podcasts in target languages to practice listening, and repeating phrases back to practice speaking
Buy more books in target languages to practice reading
Start journalling in target languages to practice writing more often
Korean Goals
I don't have too many short-term goals for Korean, I'm more looking at the broad picture.
Reach B2
Watch a movie without subtitles and feel confident in understanding what is going on
Do more speaking exercises to gain more confidence in pronunciation
Focus on vocab more (I know a lot of grammar but it outweighs my vocab knowledge so I can't use my grammar to its full potential)
Japanese Goals
Reach B1
Improve my handwriting - sometimes I can't read the kanji when I go back later to review my notes :') But my handwriting can be improved overall
Create at least 60 vocab flashcards and memorize them by the end of the month (October)
Watch more subbed anime (often I swap to dub so I can do other things and leave the show on in the background. Watching in sub would force me to listen and focus more)
Spanish Goals
Reach A2
Do at least a lesson of Duolingo everyday
Continue watching children's shows dubbed in Spanish - Shout out to Bob Esponja
Focus on Latin American Spanish
Be confident in knowing when to use ser vs estar
Reach Intermediate on Spanish Pod 101

learning another language is always beautiful, no matter how long it takes. like, what do you mean you are crying because you had to read a sentence twice to get it, when at the beginning you had to do it five times? kicking yourself because you had to listen to an audio at .75x to understand it fully, when two months ago you could barely understand one or two words, even at your second try? getting mad because you had to research how to spell a word, when a few days back you didn't even know how to pronounce it? hell, that's amazing. keep going. you'll get there.

Ok I stayed up way to late to doodle all this, but here's my headcanon for Rumi's dad. I was thinking about how she seemed to have a greater effect on the honmoon when her demon powers kick in and, of course, the purple hair.
There's been some thoughts that Gwi-Ma was her father and tricked her mother, to pull in the purple and the powers and that could definitely have tracked--but then we got that concept art of her parents together being happy and that deleted storyboard of Rumi having a memory of her demon-dad holding her and giving her a flower. So it seems it was a loving relationship between Mi-yeong and demon-dad.
And yet, the purple hair and purplish-pink powers...and then I had the idea: What if her dad was Gwi-Ma's son
Tumblr media
The name I picked for him in his true demon form is:
Wangja-Ma /왕자 魔 (Prince Demon)
But the name he'd go by when undercover as a Jeoseung Saja (to avoid the hunters giving him any extra attention as the Demon Prince) I decided would be Shin .
Taken from the ending of gwishin (ghost) like Gwi-Ma is from the beginning. Shin by itself means god, (신) but also it can be a translation of the Japanese word shin (真), that means "genuine", which I thought was hilarious for a dude in like, three layers of disguise xD
Tumblr media
I don't have a full story worked out, but it's likely he's either sent by Gwi-Ma/undertakes by himself a mission to spy on the Sunlight Sisters, try and spy on them to see how to destory them from within by gaining their trust--and then he gets Feelings for Real.
And whatever confession he gives to Mi-yeong is tainted by the fact that, while he might confess he's a demon, he doesn't tell her he's the son and heir of the demon lord they're trying to defeat.
Tumblr media
And he's definitely torn between his loyalties to his father/the demon world and to his love and their baby. Like, its not like he just totally switches sides, I think he's trying for a long while to have his cake and eat it too. But eventually he does decide to choose Mi-yeong and little Rumi--but his father of course doesn't take kindly to his boy trying to leave the family business and settle down with a Hunter. While his true title of Prince still isn't revealed, things escalate, Celine finds out Shin's a demon, Mi-yeong is accidentally killed, and Rumi is left orphaned as her father is dragged back to the Demon Realm to be punished for his disloyalty...
Tumblr media
But at least they were happy for a time...

(Languages taken from the top 10 foreign languages learned on Duolingo in 2024.)
I would like to bring your attention to two fundraisers that are near and dear to my heart.
@elhamhamdan-gaza is a young woman trying to survive in Gaza with her family. She was a top student at university until October 2023, when she and her family were displaced from their home in Khan Younis and forced to flee to Rafah. After the invasion in Rafah, they returned to their home in Khan Younis only to find it burned. They had no choice but to live in it. Elham and her family desperately need funds for blankets and clothes, because winter is here and nights in Gaza are very cold right now.
Elham's campaign is very low on funds! So far they have only been able to raise £594 and they desperately need more support. Please donate to them if you are able, and share this post and campaign with as many people as you can.
This campaign was verified by the Butterfly Effect Project (instagram) and is number 1180 on their spreadsheet, which you can access through the link on their instagram profile.
You can contribute to Elham's campaign by clicking on the link below:
Secondly, @drdarine is a young woman who is a medical student in Gaza. Despite being displaced and suffering hardships we can only imagine, Darine is continuing her studies and helping out others in the refugee camps and shelters in southern Gaza. Her family consists of seven people, one of them being my friend @dawoudi who is selflessly and unfailingly helping many other families in Gaza by verifying their fundraisers and promoting them on Tumblr. Everyday I see more campaigns added that he has verified, providing an important service to the many families in Gaza that need our help.
Darine's family has been fundraising since February, which is almost ten months! Despite that, they have only been able to raise $5,765, 19% of their goal. Progress on their campaign is extremely slow, often needing to wait multiple days for another donation to come in. We can do better than that.
This campaign was vetted by @gazavetters, and is number 15 on their spreadsheet, which you can find in the pinned post on their profile.
You can contribute to Darine's campaign by clicking on the link below:
Please support these fundraisers! Thank you!
