What if songs that literally pass the time (turn night to day & vice versa) in Legend of Zelda games aren't actually magic and they're just something Link plays to figuratively pass the time. The song itself is several hours long and if you stop midway you have to restart because you completely lose the rhythm. There's no breaks or quiet dips, it's continuous playing for hours. The song was probably part of some kind of ceremony when it was first written and well-preserved because the Royal Family were involved with the ceremony itself, maybe it was traditional for the Princess to perform it when she came of age.

Just thinking of Link playing a song he half-remembers from a past life, getting lost in the sound and the memory, all his focus on the next note, until the very last one is played. He comes back to himself after so long has passed that it seems suddenly like the song itself turned day to night, night to day. And then he suffers mild consequences.

I know we love absolute Batman, with his big buff body and his baby face and his perpetual air of sadness and the fact he works construction on the buildings he helped destroy and his love of bats and general kind of unhinged vibe.

We love absolute Superman with his emo hair and ai dust suit, how he just wants to help people especially miners and is so alien and new to this world, how he single-handedly caused a revolution in his home planet and got in trouble as a kid for not using AI. That’s not including his sad sad eyes.

But I haven’t seen nearly enough love for Absolute Wonder Woman, who is the daughter of Circe raised in hell with one arm replaced with magic, a skeleton Pegasus, a giant fucking sword, and a rope that can transform her into a monster like BRO, she’s easily the coolest of the absolute trinity are you KIDDING

Genuinely I believe Zelda shouldn’t have returned human. The story talks about how draconification is forbidden due to the high risks of losing your sense of self when you become a dragon. There should’ve been a consequence to Zelda’s actions, like yeah it is annoying that Zelda has been put to slumber AGAIN but this time for more than 10 thousand years rather than 100. But how could you come up with an interesting concept of how high risk it is and there is no punishment? Maybe I’m going crazy over how safe it was played and don’t get me started about Link’s arm

Rito wind au

Fanfic prompt : the Zora in wind waker got their wings from Valoo by collecting a scale from him

So what if wind also got a scale as a form of thanks for saving the dragon

(which was a thing I actually thought would happen when I first played the game as a kid because Valoo's scale sounded like a Zelda item you could collect)

And also can get wings

The Rito would probably already consider him part of their tribe because Quill essentially adopted him already (Dad Quill is best Quill)

And when he

Saved their dragon from a monster that was tormenting and angering him

Took Medli the one rito who could understand Valoo to become a sage and reconnect with their ancient ancestor and play a duet together

And also got their dragon to help him on his quest

They definitely wanted to honor him for that

So after his adventure the Rito threw a feast and held a ceremony

And Wind got thrown off a training ledge to try flying properly

(Because if Medli who had her wings for a while already has trouble keeping in the air if the wind is not favorable then a hylian who just got wings definitely needs some training to fly)

He hangs out with komali

And then gets to hang out with his Dad (who officially took him in now)

Then linked universe happens and he doesn’t have the time anymore to practice flying

So he and the chain adventure around till they appear on dragon roost island

And he just immediately startes to hoop over the pillars with all his flying knowledge and use the grappling hook for places he can’t glide to yet

Asks for quill at the mail office and then throws himself at quill

The chain at first freaks out because he just bolts away so fast they can’t follow catch up with him

And see him with his Bird dad

And just go like

Yeah they definitely know eachother until Quill just throws him (throwing bird children helps them get enough momentum to glide farther it’s literally canon but so hilarious) and then they actually see his wings when he flies back on the ledge

Because everyone already heard from wind about two rito friends

and his really unusual wind affinity for a hylian

They just immediately think he is a rito

And only much later do they find out that he wasn’t always a Rito

Because he fits in way to naturally with them

And now they tallest of the chain throw him at people

Despite how often I do LoZ stuff about BotW & TotK, I actually think that Tetra is probably my favorite "Zelda" in the series so far, and she's been my favorite since I was a kid. She's definitely interesting and my fingers are crossed that one day in a future game we'll see more of the Adult Timeline and perhaps more of the new kingdom of Hyrule that Tetra founded, even though I don't have high hopes for anything connected to Tetra specifically to make an appearance in anything canonical anytime soon.

Anyways I hope I made her look unhappy enough in her pretty pink princess dress. Honestly I've always found it a bit icky that her skintone changes so much when she gets Zeldafied. Like I get that we're supposed to be unhappy about the Zelda thing because "Princess Zelda" has never been who Tetra is as a person, but I feel like they still could have made that point without changing her skintone. I'm pretty sure this isn't an unpopular opinion amongst Wind Waker fans though, so I'm not gonna keep yapping about it.

From what she’d seen of him, he’d looked too sad to make a wish on, and she hadn’t much liked the idea of wishing on a dead man in the first place. The story hadn’t been much of anything. It certainly didn’t tie to the lake in any concrete way, and it didn’t mention July, and it didn’t have the tension that every other rumor did. But Nicholas finds himself in some stranger’s grandmother’s hometown north of July anyway, a couple hours’ ride up a highway that looked to be maintained only by the grace of God and hand-mixed pitch. It’s bigger than July, but that isn’t saying much. Its defining feature is a bar that markets itself as a Real Western Saloon, complete with swinging doors and a dusty piano that plays two hairs offkey to keep the tunes jaunty. What’d once been those saltgrass and wheat fields sport maize these days, and they stretch for yarz down the highway. When he breathes in, he can taste lakesand against his tongue. He presses it to the roof of his mouth as a reminder, as an omen.

the writing in this is so beautiful and haunting and perfectly disorienting during the spookier parts it’s so good

For whenever you get around to doing your deep-dive on Wonder Woman-- I'd like to recommend the William Messer-Loeb stuff. It's flawed-- offhand, I remember some copaganda and by golly is there some bad art-- but I love how Diana interacts with the real world. I love how ernest she is, and even when they start indulging in 90's tropes you can still see her compassion and love.

Overall, imo, Wonder Woman is an activist that's trying to make society better and nicer, and happens to also be a superhero. In the later, George Ruca stuff (that I also highly recommend) the good she can do as a celebrity and official diplomat is more important than the fact that she has powers.

Thank you for the recommendations!! I appreciate suggestions that include the caveats where the stories are hit and miss, because that means there's something there that resonates even if imperfect. And that's what I'm all about!!

The must reads I'm always recommended are Greg Ruca's run and Historia. Even if it's different, I am thoroughly enjoying Absolute Wonder Woman (tho I haven't caught up to the latest one, I got busy heheh).

It's part of what makes Wonder Woman extra homework compared to Supes/Bats/Martians- but if I were to do a Wondie reimagining, I'm curious with how to reimagine her lore in a way that marries into Greek mythology more...cohesively? In that at least I've seen some Greek historians enjoy WW but don't love how some of the Gods are mischaracterized/vilified. That's at least my current headspace.

Andrew hopes for a quiet breakfast, but of course it’s impossible with Neil. The familiar is constantly trying to take a peek into Andrew’s laptop screen where Andrew has news articles that might help solve the mystery of Agnus. So far no luck, though.

“Quit it and eat your food,” says Andrew, frustrated with his fruitless research.

“You should eat, too.” Neil looks pointedly at a half-finished plate of scrambled eggs that Andrew pushed to the side, but the blond decides to ignore the remark.

“You should shut up,” he says half-heartedly, too focused on the article before him. After reading a few, they look all the same to him: a great tragedy with no suspects or motives. A dead woman but not a single word about Agnus or anyone that was close with her. At this point, Andrew wants to bang his head on the table.

do you know of anywhere that watcher weekly plus is posted? i never got to see the last few episodes before the patreon closed

Hi! If you join the streamer and then follow the link to the discord in the e-mail that you get when you join there's a link to all the watcher weekly's that were posted in the discord channel of the shows they have. (So when you join the discord you have to choose "Show all channels bc I think they revamped the discord at some point -> then go to watcher weekly and follow the pinned message in that channel).

They have it as a playlist so you'd have to remember the number of episode you ended on (they are sorted by the upload date to yt and titled ww+_201_version_3 so if you think "oh the last episodes they uploaded in april of 2024 then all of them have the same date of like april 4th or something)

(I'd reccomend the last one for a nice trip into an alternate reality where streamer drama never happened because they shot it waay before that happened and are really enthusiastic about it and it is a nice season finale and tribute to watcher weekly plus)
