RQBB 2025 Writer Sign-Ups Open!

Writer Sign-Ups are now open for the Rusty Quill Big Bang 2025!

Please read through the information carefully to understand what will be expected of you as a participant.

The sign-up link is at the end of the post under the spoiler cut!

You do not need to have decided what you will be writing at this stage, but please consider whether the fic requirements are compatible with what you have in mind, and be sure that you can commit to contacting us on the below deadlines to share your progress (or withdraw your participation if necessary).

Schedule for 2025 (all deadlines at 23:00 BST / 5pm CDT):

Writer Sign-ups: May 12th - 18th

Full First Draft & Summary Due: August 10th

Artist Sign-ups: August 18th - August 24th

Art Draft Deadline: September 28th

Final Fic & Art Due: October 19th

Posting: October 26th

Info for Writers:

Minimum Final Word Count: 15,000

Maximum Number of Fics per Writer/s: 1

Maximum Number of Writers per Fic (collaboration): 2

Confirmation e-mails for sign-ups will be sent out after sign-ups close; if you have not received a confirmation by May 30, please contact us at pilesofnonsense@gmail.com. We ask that you check your email (including the spam folder!) and reply so we can confirm that your registered email address is correct and you still intend to participate.

Participation Requirements:

You must choose whether to join the Big Bang as an artist or writer. You may not do both.

Writers will require an AO3 account; if you do not have an AO3 account, please request one via AO3’s login page.

If you wish to write M or E rated fics you must be aged over 18.

All participants must read and adhere to the Expected Conduct guidelines (see below).

Fic Draft Requirements: At the draft deadline (August 18th), we will require a complete draft of at least 13,000 words. “Complete” means that the fic is written from start to finish with no indispensable scenes missing or left as outlines—think, “If I posted this right now, would I be happy with the story it tells?”

Ideally, you will refine and polish your draft in the remaining time, but it can also be your final draft if you prefer.

Drafts will be handed in via a form that will be sent out to you before the deadline. Drafts should be available in Google docs, or if need be in PDF format.

Summary Requirements: A form for the summary will be sent out to you before the deadline. Summaries should briefly outline the general premise, and include rating, ships, triggers and other warnings, and any other relevant details.

Eligible Fics:

Fics of any rating and with any warnings are permitted, as long as they meet the minimum word count (15,000), are centered around at least one Rusty Quill original podcast (The Magnus Archives, The Magnus Protocol, Rusty Quill Gaming, Stellar Firma, Inexplicables, Chapter & Multiverse, Trice Forgotten, Cry Havoc!, Neon Inkwell), and are tagged appropriately.

We encourage authors to take this opportunity to challenge themselves to take on a project that they might not otherwise—though please consider what is realistic in terms of the deadlines as well!

Fics must be stand-alone (requires no knowledge of previous fics to enjoy), complete (resolves all main plotlines within the story, as opposed to being part I of a trilogy, etc.), and previously unposted.

Crossovers are allowed, but the focus should be on the RQ podcast involved. For example: a fusion crossover with the Leverage Team replacing the LOLOMG in the RQG!verse would not be permitted, though the RQG characters in the Leverage!verse would be.

Please be aware that fics with obscure crossovers, common squicks, higher ratings, etc., may be more difficult to match, and thus take a little longer to get snapped up. We will do our best to find you a suitable match, though!

If you have any questions about the suitability of your fic, please contact the mods.

Matching Process:

The artist sign-up will include a list of the anonymised fic summaries. Each artist will select 3 fics which they would be interested in creating for, with additional preferences (favourite show/shows they do not follow, OTPs and NoTPs, Do Not Wants, etc.) indicated in the comment field. Mods will then match writers to artists, taking preferences into account as much as possible.

If fics are oversubscribed or if it is otherwise necessary for matching, they may be removed from the list of eligible fics before the end of artist sign-ups.

If you have an issue with your match, please let the mods know as soon as possible.

Do Not Wants:

In this event, you will have an opportunity to Do Not Want (DNW) the types of content that you do not wish to work on. Similarly, if you’ve had conflicts with certain people in the past and do not want to risk matching to them, you can include this in your sign-up or draft submission, and we will avoid matching you with them (details of these will not be shared beyond the mod team).

The mods will always account for DNWs within reason; however, attempts to manipulate matches via DNWs or otherwise acting in bad faith will result in the rejection of your sign-up or draft. We are also not private detectives, and will thus not be fielding any requests such as “do not match me with anyone who has ever drawn/written XYZ.” Please keep that in mind when considering whether this event is right for you.

Expected Conduct:

By signing up for this event, you agree to do your best to meet the deadlines. If you might need a little more time, please email the mods to explain your situation before the deadline passes. Those who miss deadlines without contacting the mods beforehand may be dropped from the event without further contact.

In order to participate in this event, you must be willing to contact the mods directly in the event that you have a question, concern, or issue with your participation (as in the deadline example above). We are happy to help participants with anything that arises, but cannot accept “telephone”-style communiques on behalf of others.

Be in regular contact with your match—if you’re going to be offline for a significant length of time, let them know. Radio silence from your match in events of this kind can be very concerning. (If you are having trouble getting in touch with your match, please contact us!)

Please take care to credit your artist/writer in your own final post.

Our Discord server has its own list of rules, which are listed within the server. If you decide to join the server, we require you to read and abide by those rules.

Be kind and courteous towards your match and fellow participants. This naturally means that all forms of bigotry and discrimination are prohibited, but even where those are not at play, you are expected to treat others with respect.

We, like Rusty Quill, have an “all headcanons are valid” policy. Harassment or mockery of those with different interpretations will not be tolerated. This does not mean you cannot discuss how you see the characters with others or that your artist/writer should not take it into account at their discretion, but insistence that any one interpretation must be adhered to is not allowed.

If you have concerns that a work or participant may be in violation of the rules, please bring it to the mods directly. Harassment of other participants (including but not limited to callout posts, name-calling, baiting, etc.), either publicly or in the Piles of Nonsense discord server, over their identities, fanworks, or headcanons will result in an instant default.

Right across the street is the florist shop 'Serpens et Horto', and the proprietor Anthony Crowley keeps drawing his eyes. Azariah regularly finds himself buying plants and flowers at that shop, even though he had known nothing about plants when he first came to this café. So, is it really a surprise when one of the main characters in his latest book has a striking resemblance to Anthony Crowley?

Although, maybe he should just feel grateful that he's able to talk to him at all? After all, his crush certainly hasn't abated over the years, and his feelings for Aziraphale are only growing stronger.

Aziraphale and Crowley make a bet on who can live “like a human” the longest. Apparently that includes dating - how convenient for the both of them! If only they had paid any attention to how humans live! But what can you do when, for the past 6000 years, you only had eyes for each other? Meanwhile, the actual humans around our lovebirds are torn between having to suffer through their shenanigans and enjoying the absurd romcom that is unfolding in front of them.

New neighbours and temporary owners of two nearly identical cottages that are in desperate need of new plumbing and better kitchens, burned out actor Aziraphale and disgraced chef Crowley can’t stop running into each other. Autumn on the Isle of Skye is rainy and lonely, and everyone needs some company. And if the company is so good that parting seems unbearable, it’s just part of the magic of the island, surely. Afterall, they only have one autumn.

It is official, we are back for the second year running! Our amazing fest was created to highlight any character who you see as asexual, aromantic, or anywhere on those spectrums.  Any era, any age, anyone.  Give me your QPRs, your sex-repulsed lovey-doveys, your hypersexual aromantics, and everything else you got.  As long as you give me a main character from the HP fandom who is a-spec, your work has a home with this fest.  Accepting fic, fanart, podfics, any medium your heart desires to give us.

The goal of this fest is to celebrate and highlight the joys (and some of the stresses) of the lives of the HP-verse characters who fall into the a- sexual and romantic spectrums.  

There will be no ship or character bashing (even if it’s a fandom-wide hated character, please just avoid including a character/ship if you do not like them).

Ladies of WOT - a potential community ?

Hello fellow WOT show enjoyers!

I am deliberately not tagging the show because I am aiming for a very specific demographic. Among those who watch WOT and are talking about it in different spaces (discord, twitter, here), I've noticed that people are having very different experiences watching the show, depending on what they want the focus to be on; to the point it might sometimes feel like we're in very different fandoms.

I realise the show is a book adaptation and I understand why people would expect more attention to be given to Rand, or Perin, or Mat, because those are the names who often come back, rather than some of the Aes Sedai who aren't as fleshed out in the book (I'm looking at you, my beloved Liandrin), but I have no interest in developing a sense of community with people who are watching the show for very different reasons than I.

I am absolutely not here for the men of the show, it's fine if you are, good for you but don't come at me. There are some men whose stories I enjoy following, but I'm here for the aes sedai, the forsakens (I can't wait to really meet Moghedien next season), the younger girls, the seanchans... and I would very much love to be able to share my love for the show and those characters, and to enjoy the show with people who share a similar enthusiasm.

Here's my issue, though, I find it hard to build a sense of community on Tumblr, interactions are limited by a very poor comment section, which is a shame.

I don't believe Twitter should be the main place for fandoms, because there's no room for in-depth conversations and everything has to be done quickly, It's more about posting and liking than engaging together.

I enjoy Dreamwidth and it would be, I think, a lovely place to build a community (besides, there is some WOT content over there) but I know it's not the most popular place, and it works more as a forum, which might lack the spontaneity of conversations.

Then there's Discord, and I am conflicted about Discord, on the one hand, it's convenient to chat and it can be well organised, on the other hand... I have wandered on quite a few fandom servers and they weren't for me, except for one. They're usually too crowded and I found that, in some places, the conversations are overwhelming in quantity but there aren't any real discussions.

As for that ONE server that worked for me, that one is quite special. You see, it's a small fandom of a show with a lot of wasted potential, but it's also the best fandom I've had the pleasure to join. People really interact, most of us know each other at least vaguely, we have a general idea of what are people's likes and dislikes, even when they aren't people we've chatted a lot with, and the mods always come up with fabulous events to keep the community living and it does keep on living, even after the show got cancelled in 2022. This discord doesn't have that many people in it, we talk a lot about the show, we also talk about specific characters, talk about ships in their dedicated channels, chat about our progress in our fic/gif/edits and support each other... people are interacting and we're all loving it. And those same people participate in fandom events because what unites us, even if we don't love the same characters or ships, is our love for that same show.

This is this sense of community built on the common love for a show and its potential that I would like to find for WOT, and more specifically in this case, about the women of WOT (but of course, talks about the show as a whole are always welcome and encouraged, it's just that watching with a preference for the female characters really change the conversations ones might have...) Especially with the new season coming in March, with all those new intriguing women that joined the cast, it would be lovely to have our little corner somewhere to chat together, as a small part of a bigger fandom, rather than individuals floating in the big WOT show tag and struggling to connect.

(And maybe those places already exist and I just haven't found them yet and I'm the only one struggling to connect. In this case, if you know places, please fill me in, I am dying to connect with fellow ladies of WOT lovers.)

So I guess that's it. I would love for us to get a chance to better connect, as show lovers (book readers are welcome, but please, be really mindful of spoilers, I am sick of being spoiled things even though I muted tags because people believe using emojis to talk is good enough to prevent spoilers, like we don't have functioning brains enough to put 2 and 2 together...).

To sum up my wish list: I wish we, those of us with similar interests (I don't care which women you enjoy in WOT, I love them all and they're all interesting, even if I have my own preferences I will gladly chat about any of them with you), could create a little corner in this big fandom so we can start acting as a community rather than separated individuals scrolling through tags. But a community who takes its time, to have nice little chats about the show and its women, to discuss our ideas and hypothesis, to share our thoughts and headcanons about our favourite ships (and yes, please, let it be plural and not just one ship) and characters, to support each other's in our writing, drawing, giffing, editing... all that, free of the drama that too often seem to happen in fandoms. A little place where we could always find someone who's up to chat a little about the show, and its women.

(Little place, because I really think once you're over 100 persons in a discord server (and probably less) it becomes nearly impossible to really get this feeling of a community).

So I'd love to know your interest in building such a place, and where you think it would be the most convenient for you!

I'm not sure if this is the end for the QSMP, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were shut down soon after this.

The eggs have been the lifeblood of the server since they were introduced, and having some of them permanently gone from the server is devastating for so many reasons, and bodes terribly for the future of this project. My optimism has run out. I will still wait for updates but I have no hope.

However, I wanted to write a piece for the community here on Tumblr. I know we're all very emotional right now, because while we have no confirmation that the QSMP will permanently close, we now have good reason to assume there might just be no other clear path out of this.

To the community:

Do not feel like you have to stop loving the server and everything it created. Do not stop creating art. Do not stop sharing why you loved the characters and the story and the world.

To completely boycott everything QSMP, you are discrediting the incredible work that the admins put into the server purely out of passion and the kindness of their hearts. Do not waste their sacrifices. Talk about the server and everything they did for it, give them recognition, let them know we love and appreciate all the time and care they poured into this project. Thank them by caring about their work that they put so much of themselves into.

To completely boycott everything QSMP, you are ignoring the beautiful friendships it created between content creators who otherwise would never have met, and the way it ignited such a fierce determination to learn about others' cultures in them. You are forgetting how much these streamers strived to tell engaging, relatable, fun stories, by themselves or with each other, and to have their fans talk about how much they liked their newest lore. You are refusing to acknowledge the effort put in by everyone on the project to tell amazing stories through the language barrier.

And to completely boycott the QSMP, you are denying yourself the fact that you loved this server; the eggs, the streamers, the stories, the cultural events, the laughter, the sadness, the friendships, the ship ships, the builds, the mods, the languages. You are part of this server for enjoying it's wonderful vitality and beauty and hilarity. As a community, we all are.

I have had my gripes with the QSMP fanbase, as anyone has gripes with the dysfunctional mad household they live in, but at the end of the day, I love it so much. This has been my first time actually being part of a fandom; interacting with people and sharing my art and my ideas, getting into silly debates and arguments, running my mouth off more than I should. I love this bizarre toxic fandom for all of it's worth; I love the fanfic writers (even if I think their characterisation is terrible), I love the fanartists (even if they give Pac those yellow scleras that always make me think of jaundice), I love the live bloggers (even if they clog up the main tag), I love the people who write analysis, the people who make animations and animatics, the people who webweave, and all the other things people in this fandom do to interact with the media we all collectively love and bond over.

We do not need to let this be the end of our community, as we can still share our admiration for the hard work put into this project, lift each other up, express praise where it is warranted.

And we can talk to each other, we can vent about how this has negatively effected us (provided we tag it appropriately 👁️👁️) and respond in kind to those seeking someone to speak to who relates.

The QSMP taught us the value of communication. While behind the scenes, it itself did not abide by it's own rules, we can. The QSMP itself is not the figurehead of communication; the content creators and the fans it sent this message to are. We can be an example of what the QSMP should have stood for.

I do not love the deeply flawed execution of the QSMP, but with my whole heart I love the idea; the ambition, the goal. It was noble. It, to some extent, worked.

It united communities.

Let it unite ours.

Welcome to the jumblr cookbook!

The point of this blog is to collect and share recipes from jumblr users. This blog is ran by @moran-with-a-g, you may DM me if you want to join in and help! Our other mod is @emotionalsupportgolem

Rules:

1) The recipes don't have to be of inherently Jewish foods! They need to be recipes you (someone who's part of jumblr) tried before - that you either made or ate. That's it! They can also be non-kosher.

2) One recipe at a time, separate different recipes to different submissions (which you can send either via ask or via submission).

2) Your suggestion must include:

What the recipe is

ingredients (with amounts/ratios)

utensils needed

instructions (preferably step-by-step)

suggested template will be under the cut

3) The suggestion needs to be in either English or Hebrew. If you can include both, that's preferable. If not, We will add a translation to the language that's missing.

4) We do not allow anonymous submissions, to make sure the person suggesting is actually part of jumblr. If you want to remain anonymous you can DM the recipe to @moran-with-a-g.

5) If your recipe was taken from another jumblr post, and you didn't alter it majorly, we prefer you tag us in a reblog of it (and add any alterations you make if you do) instead of submitting it, unless the op gave you permission.

6) Images of the results are encouraged, just please don't add too many, as we plan to include image ids for everything and too many images could be overwhelming for us.

7) Optional:

If you can, include IDs to your images.

If you first saw the recipe online, add a link to the original blog.

Try including the origin of the dish - look at the tagging system below to see what I mean.

Try to include the estimated time it takes to make the dish.

Recipes that can be made multiple ways (for example, that can be made both kosher and non-kosher, or both have both vegetarian and vegan options) will include all relevant tags even if it's not exclusive. So you may notice a recipe that mixes dairy and meat in the kosher tag if it includes alternatives in it.

This is the official blog of the Studio Investigrave Dating Simulator (for which we're probably gonna come up with a shorter name sometime), a game made by SIG fans for SIG fans!

There are two people working on this project, mod Carrot and mod Cyanide - and between the two of us, it's me who's mostly making this post! (take all the credit ch ch ch) (You stfu I wrote like 90% of this thing you go and uh- idk finish Vincent now shoo) (fyk I already did so like days ago, so watch your tone young lad)

This game is our love letter to Studio Investigrave, and we hope to make this game enjoyable for any and every SIG fan that have ever dreamed of dating one of the characters - while trying to keep every character's personality as close to canon as possible.

In this blog we will post updates, ask for general opinions, and probably show some of the silly stuff we do while trying to figure our stuff out.

Hi :3, since I didn't really have any other opportunity to say hi.. I'm like a wingman for this project. I'll be writing the dialogues and interactions with the characters, mainly planning the outcomes and choices. And of course, trying to help Carrot with everything I can. I feel like she will be needing some help with the programming (dw, I trust in her skills, it's just gonna be a LOT), so Ima be petty and change my title to writer and programming assistant just in case

Will you add the characters from games that release in the future?

That's the plan, yes!

(Although I still have to convince Cyanide somehow to let me add Jackpot Crash Course right after the first chapter, and not only after all 3 chapters have been released-) (We are nowhere near finishing even one game; we'll get there soon.)

Will I be able to play as a character from the games?

Sadly, the answer to that is no, you'll have to play as yourself. It would be way to complicated to make any character playable. You'll be able to choose your pronouns tho!

How far are you in the development/When will the game most likely release?

We are only in the early stages of development, only clearing up the concepts - the earliest it could release is probably late fall of 2025, but it's more likely for development to take around a year time.

What programs/platforms/engines will you be using?

For planning, we use a shared google document. For the game itself, I'll (we'll ;3) use Godot (4.3), for art we'll most likely use Krita! For writing, crazy I know, but I'm probably gonna use the same google document. (or maybe my notes or a random paper.. writing is crazy)

Do you have the permission of the owners of these characters?

Rachel herself has stated, I believe, several times, any fangames are fine, which means yes, we do!

Will the game be free/Where will it be published?

Of course, just like every official game, we will release this game and all of it's content completely free of charge! It'll also be on itch.io, just like the official ones, so it'll be more easily accessible.

What will the gameplay be like? Just a visual novel?

No! I will try to make it feel like a Studio Investgrave game as much as I'll be able to - and that will reflect on the gameplay too! I hope to take inspiration from different elements of currently released games for different parts of the game.

And I'm gonna try to make your choices matter as much as possible to create routes that heavily rely on the built-up personality you give your character by choosing from options.

The Shadowhunters Mini Bang 2025 is a collaborative fandom event that combines fandom talents! Writers create never-before-seen fic that artists will find inspiration in and together, they create magic.

You must be a part of the Malec Discord Server to participate. You must be over 16 to participate and over 18 to create explicit works.

The schedule as it currently stands is below. This schedule is subject to change depending on the situation. You will be notified of any changes.

Rules:

You must be part of the Malec Discord Server to participate in this event. 

You must be over 16 to participate and over 18 to create explicit works.

All content must be brand new and never before posted to any forum. All content must be polished and finished. No unfinished works or WIPs that you plan on continuing later will be accepted. Works that are added chapters/continuations of previously published works are not permitted unless they can be viewed/read as a standalone. 

Plagiarism and AI content will not be tolerated. All content must be the creator’s own original work. 

Writers are asked not to talk about their projects until after claims with anyone participating in this event to keep beta/artist claims fair. 

All content must focus on Shadowhunters universe characters (show and/or book verse.)

All Shadowhunters characters/ships are accepted. OCs/borrowed characters will be accepted as minor characters. 

AUs and crossovers are accepted as long as the Shadowhunters characters are the main focus.

Content of any rating and subject matter is accepted, but participants must make sure to include any relevant warnings throughout the entire event (I.e. warnings for betas/artists during matching) and properly tag their work. 

No blatantly hateful content of any kind. 

All participants are required to check-in with moderators at least twice throughout the event. All check-ins are integral to continuing to participate in the event. 

All participants must communicate readily with their assigned partners and vice versa. This is a collaborative effort. All participants must be open to the ideas of their partners. 

When you sign up for this event you are making a commitment to yourself, the mods, and your future partners to meet all posted deadlines and to communicate with the mods and your partners regularly. Please don’t sign up for the event unless you are confident that you can fully participate and be honest with yourself about what you can commit to. 

Please respect the mods and anyone working with you throughout this event. Certain complaints may disqualify you from this event.

Hello! I have a question about characters with a facial difference and animal attributes (like, Kemonos).

A story I'm planning has the protagonists coming from our world to one with magic, where the magic usually shows on your body, like someone with light magic having glowing hair and stuff like that.

One of the characters has strabismus. In my original idea, she was going to be an animal shapeshifter, since she studies zoology and likes improv theater; her visual cue would be being a mix and match kemono (like, a rabbit ear, a dog ear, and a lion tail, or something like that). She'd keep the strabismus in all forms.

But I think while scrolling the blog I saw something about disabled people/people with FDs often being likened to animals, so now I'm worried that it might fall into that trope, though it wasn't intended. There will be other characters with FDs who aren't Kemonos (including another main character), and there's other kemonos and characters with animal-based magic who don't have a FD, but if it falls into an uncomfortable trope, I can come up with another magic for her and give the shapeshifting to someone else.

This sounds fine to me, mostly because of a few things:

she isn't originally an animal, and even then only has animalistic attributes;

she chooses to transform into an animal, and the decision is related to her passion rather than “all characters get innate magic and the visibly disabled one just 'happens' to be the sole animalistic one”;

ears and tails are almost* always fair game IMO;

there are other characters with facial differences who aren't associated with animals;

there are other characters without facial differences who are associated with animals.

*- things that are exceptions to that (for future reference if anyone wants it): - rabbit features + cleft lip; - cow features + vitiligo; - rat anything + anything, I actually like rats a lot but as an animal they gotta stay away from being associated from like 99% of minorities' representation; - “funny animal” + strabismus/drooling/skull conditions, as a rule of thumb: if the character looks like a wojak it's time to stop.

So yeah, I don't see anything wrong with it. It sounds pretty cool.

I'm usually not a fan of animalistic characters with facial differences (unless we are talking about a story where everyone is an animal, that's a completely different thing) because I, and quite a lot of people I know, have been compared to them as part of bullying or a microaggression. For me personally, it was both by people who were intentionally trying to harass me, as well as genuinely well-meaning people who just didn't consider that maybe telling someone his face reminds them of a dog's one is kinda fucked up.

The reason I don't think that's what's going on here is that you seem to be aware of the trope's existence and try to avoid it, along with giving your character actual agency. The magic giving her animal features isn't because of her disability (which is clear based on the fact that there are other characters with one but not the other trait), it's because she as a character likes animals!

I will also say that I'm not really against all kinds of animal-related magic when it comes to characters with facial differences. If there was a Disney princess with septicemia scarring on her whole body who talks with deer, it would go hard as hell. But the 99.9% of animal-related characters with FD I see are more akin to “scary scarred man is likened to a [predatory animal] because he's so scary and has scars, also he's drawn in a collar and half his dialogue tags are animalistic”, thus the blanket “no animal people with FDs please” statement you saw on some of my previous posts.

Tools Tuesday - Tagging - March 18

This Tools Tuesday is all about tagging, for when you’re ready to post your finished work on Archive of Our Own or any other site that uses tags! AO3, as the most popular fic posting site, will be the focus.

To begin: what are tags? And why do we use them?

Tags are keywords used to describe a fic or post. They can serve a variety of functions, but at their core they tell a viewer what to expect when they click in. On some sites (like Tumblr), they are at the bottom of the post or in the body of the post (like bsky). On AO3, they are the third thing seen, after title and author.

As seen in this handy infographic from SummerofSpock on tumblr, tags on A03 fall into 5 rough categories: Canon, Format, Tone, Relationship, Theme.

Not every fic might use every category, and there are certainly tags that overlap categories. There’s also what I consider a 6th category, which is Author Commentary (no beta we die like xx, character needs a hug, why did i do that much research for a single paragraph, etc).

All of that aside, why should you use tags?

They help readers find and enjoy your fic! The two main uses of tags when searching is Seeking and Avoidance.

Seeking is when a reader really wants to read a particular thing, like they want fix-its only or just Modern AUs. Once they narrow it down to fandom, these are the tags they’ll type into the search bar. If your work isn’t properly tagged, it won’t show up, even if it’s the epitome of a Coffee Shop AU and that’s the term they search. Generously tag so readers can find you!

Avoidance is excluding a fic from consideration due to a particular theme or topic. Maybe their pet just died, so any mention of Animal Death is out. Maybe they are really tired of a particular ship, or are narrowing down for a rarepair. On AO3, there’s a section in the filter bar for excluding tags (see below, boxed in blue). Readers can eliminate what they don’t want to see, which is wonderful! They can select exactly what they want; not every fic is for every reader. Generously tag, so readers can be selective!

Additionally, this event requires certain tags be honored and present as needed, primarily common content warnings or hot topics. See the rules post for more information. These tags at least need to be present in any promo post that are applicable, though tagging the fic itself is always good practice. After all, tags are like the ingredient label of a fic.

WinterSpider Bingo Round 1!

Hello! Welcome to WinterSpider Bingo, a creative fandom event for our favorite boys: Bucky Barnes and Peter Parker! No sign-ups for this event, just fun! There are two (2) cards (found below), one sfw and one nsfw, with five (5) alt prompts if you’d like to/need to swap any of the squares. You can do one card, or both!

Standard bingo rules apply: five (5) spaces horizontal, vertical, diagonal, four corners + free space, or black out! But you can fill as many or as few of the squares as you’d like, no pressure! You can write fic, make fanart, playlists and more! All fanworks are welcome, and there are no word count minimums or maximums for fic.

This event is open from August 1st 2024 - June 1st 2025

The AO3 collection (winterspiderbingo) will open on August 1st. Also, please tag this blog in your posts here on tumblr, and use #winterspiderbingo so that your work can be shared here for all to enjoy!

RULES

One work per square and it must be a new work, this does include a new chapter of a WIP or new part of an ongoing series! Anything created prior to the start of this event can not count for a square on your card, however. If you are writing fic and would like to create one multi-chapter fic, you are more than welcome to do so, but each chapter must be it’s own prompt/square. 1a. You may use two prompts for one fill if one is from the SFW card, and one is from the NSFW card!

Please use proper trigger and content warnings!

Combining fills with other events is a-okay!

Absolutely no kink shaming will be tolerated within this event! If you are uncomfortable with something in someone’s fill, please just block that content tag and/or user and move on.

Absolutely NO generative AI “art” or fic will be accepted as a fill for this event.

There is one SFW card and one NSFW card for everyone. There will be five (5) Alt Prompts on the cards for if you aren’t vibing with one of the squares for whatever reason. You can use none or all 5 alts, it’s up to you and what you’d like to create fan works for!
