Hajime and Nagito were snuggled up on the couch watching some show, you couldn't quite tell because of the tears that blurred your vision. hearing your door open, Nagito looked over the couch over to you. your small shaking frame standing in the walkway sniffling, gently nudging Hajime awake(to no avail), nervous that his luck may have caused something bad to happen to you. "daddy..?" you call out, not to any one specific parent; you just needed the comfort of knowing they were there. "we're here kiddo" Nagito calls out to you, knowing he probably wouldn't be the best parent to handle the situation, but what choice did he really have at this point as you were now standing in front of him teary-eyed...with a still sleeping Hajime besides him.

"Another nightmare, my little hope..?" 'another' nightmare.. because this unfortunately was a normal occurrence. You nodded your head, voice caught in your throat, and he lifted you up into his arms, snuggling your snotty face into his shirt(kinda gross, but he didn't mind too much). "y'know,," he starts "i've had some nightmar-" he gets cut off by, a now very awake Hajime, covering his mouth with a hand. "wha- dID YOU JUST LICK MY HAND??" this elicits a giggle from you, and Nagito shrugs. Hajime sighs, wiping his hand off "eugh...anyways.." he pats your head with his NOT licked hand, " 'nother nighmare..? you wanna talk about it, kiddo?"

you think back to your dream. it was a terrible, terrible dream. you didn't want to think about it, but it was almost impossible not to.. "you dove have to, of course" he adds, sensing your hesitance.

you nestled further into Nagito's arms, you took a deep breath and tried to collect your scrambled thoughts. the nightmare still lingered vividly in your mind, but the warmth of being held by your two fathers helped to ground you. "it was really bad...." you hid your face as you contemplated wether or not to explain the dream to them... explain the large dark figures you had seen, how they had taken the two of them away while you were held back, forced to do nothing but watch.

Hajime stares at you for a second or two, waiting for some type of response "...you don't HAVE to say anything." he says in a rather matter-of-fact voice(although he always sorta has that tone). you snuggle into Nagito again, and he pats your back. "we'll always be here for you" Hajime comforts "well..-" Nagito starts, Hajime shoots him a glare that shuts him up pretty quickly.

As the tension eases with Hajime's assurance and Nagito's somewhat awkward attempt at support, you feel a bit more at ease. Despite the lingering unease from the nightmare, the presence of your fathers comforts you enough to feel sleepy again.

As you drift back into a more peaceful state, Nagito and Hajime exchange a glance, silently communicating their concern for you. Hajime adjusts himself on the couch so he can wrap an arm around both you and Nagito, creating a cozy little family huddle. you distinctly feel Nagito petting your hair, despite your eyes being closed, you can tell from the tenderness and boney fingers.. then he swiches off with Hajime it seems, though you aren't sure why.. maybe he had fallen asleep?

you hear the buzzing of their movie restarting as you drift off again, comforted knowing that the both of them are still there and would NEVER leave your side...

he didn't have the guts to talk to you, because of his self-esteem. he didn't want to get in your way or hold you back

but he would always stare at you during class, and his eyes would glimmer

he smiles the most when he looks at you

but one thing he noticed was that you don't talk nearly as much as the classmates do, in fact you don't really talk to them at all

he was really curious why

one time you caught him staring at you, and he immediately looked away, internally freaking out

he thought he had offended you, and was surprised when you decided to approach him after class

Soooo, what are your thoughts on the latest episode of Despair Time?

Okay, got my affairs in order to talk about this. Despair Time returns after an over 1 year hiatus. Let’s see what we got.

We finally figured out what Charles meant by fucked after all this time. The murder itself could have took place at 7:30 am, not pm. Meaning that why speculation or cloyed perceived previously goes out the window as none of that matters anymore. And that’s what this episode is, the crew realizing they’ve hit a wall and have to chip around it.

There are some good characters moments here and there as they get understand my frustrated at this, but overall, and I am not docking the DRDT Dev at all with this and mean this in the nicest way possible, this entire episode…….was a waste of time. A majority of his episode are spent characters arguing and nagging at each other for mistakes and but were still nowhere close to what actually happened. It makes matters worse when Charles has to chime in and go, “Hey! Can we get back on track, please?! We’re wasting time!” I feel like a lot of scenes could have been cut to make the trial flow better, but hey, I’m not going to backseat ^^;

Now onto the a certain a blue-haired fallen star. David. Now a week ago or so, you’ll recall that I spoke to Suicune saying that I thought David is indeed the bastard he says he is.

Turns out…..I was wrong…

I’ve also mentioned before how I personally think that Xander should have still been alive just so he could see his “beloved hero” turn out to be this giant piece of scum and dirt, and how he doesn’t care about anyone or anything.

….I was wrong…

From how David goes on about Xander, his motivations, his ideals, everything about him up until this point. He cares. David cares. Something pierced his whole edgy persona. David….isn’t the bastard I thought he was.

……Huh… Adding onto this…

Now I’m not saying that David is entirely right here, or some misunderstood soft boy like the canon fandom will make you believe with Nagito and Kokichi. But I was under the belief, I’m sure like many people…that David was empty and had nothing to care for. But look at him now. Talking about something more important to everyone than a bunch of strangers… Does he have that? What is it if that’s the case? How low is he willing to go for this, if at all?

…What goes on in your head, David? I don’t understand you….but it compels me… You intrigue me…I have to know more…

Anyways, after all that. Alibis are questioned and we’re getting nowhere until the cliffhanger of the episode which is….

I’ve had a feeling that Levi’s secret could have been something like that given from what’s left and this confirms it. Of course, this also crosses him off as a suspect because if he were the killer, there would be no way he’d just reveal this outright to everyone.

So who do I think the killer is….I have no idea :/

Like I said, there was nothing truly learned about the case this episode aside from only a few minor things, the Dev was right; we have a loooooong way to go for this trial. It’s just getting started. But, that’s what next week’s all about! Tune in next time when in the next episode, we’ll get-

Do you know if there's a reason why DR2 doesn't have any "intelligent character" like DR1 and V3 do? It has a protagonist (obviously) and someone in the rival / antagonist archetype (Nagito), so why is it missing someone in the "helpful person that suggests things and moves trials forward" archetype?

Monokuma says something that kinda makes it sound like it was supposed to be Chiaki but she never actually says or does anything smart. Do you think maybe they changed the plans for the story?

Mod Box: let’s reword “intelligent character” to something more like a “plot device” type character. Now, I mean “plot device” in the way of saying this character’s purpose only propels the plot by their dialogue. See how that can change characters like Chiaki and Shuuichi? I don’t mean to say that these are their only roles in these titles, but when you have a lot of eccentric characters, you notice that these two are a little flat in comparison, whether it be by their personality itself that lends to that delivery or if they’re only just exactly saying the words you need to hear for the trial to go on.

Mod Box: SDR2 can suffer from a few points and segments running a little bit too long, and conveniently, Chiaki will chime in with what you, or the class needs to hear. This might not be true for every part that runs too long, but it’s definitely a reoccurring event throughout your time. Doing or saying anything particularly smart? You get a feel that some things were either planned to run for the rest of the game or if this was put in as they went along, no game development is really ever actually so linear from, start to end…

Mod Box: I have to kind of wonder what you mean on "anything smart". Think on the characters you want to talk about. There's both limitations to the character as they were written, and limitations to what the director, or writers can put together based on their vision. These are two separate things that work in flux to end up with the result you seem to get out of this. What do I mean by that? I'm saying that it's easy to read a character's traits on face value, this is what they were written to be, and then there is limitations set by the creators' depth. This isn't a jab at anything or anyone, but it asks you to really understand what they were going for. It asks you to take a look again and really gauge if there is more by dialogue or the character's course of action. I can point out screenshots and things that I feel like can give anyone the "intelligence" you're asking for but I think you're expecting a character to be labelled as a brainiac, right?

Mod Box: Either way, I have to agree, I think a lot of these titles begin to touch surface on ideas and gimmicks that never get true spotlight because of the limitations in place. From being delegated by the publishers to shorten or cut content, to being unable to code and depict things how you'd like (comes with time and skill on the program worked with), or even just scrapping things on your own because you ultimately decided it doesn't work out too well… Creating anything comes with burdens, challenges, and it is sometimes disappointing. But to be able to make anything at all is still its own joy. I hope this answers this okay cause I kinda wanted to see about writing this without direct images.

Mod Bubbles and I were LITERALLY JUST TALKING ABOUT THIS KIND OF THING. People routinely give even the most sympathetic of culprits shit for not confessing right away and "trying to get everyone killed." But there are two things they fail to keep in mind:

By saying that the culprit should "just confess right away to save everyone," you are in essence saying "this young person who has a life back home should immediately throw it away and accept what will likely be a VERY painful execution for the good of a group of people they only just met." As Bubbles said, anyone who has a basic survival instinct will probably not just accept their inevitable death, at least not until the odds are against them. This is just human nature.

Even if the culprit did confess right away, odds are they would not be believed without evidence. Look at Satsuki, the one culprit who DID confess right away. Nobody believed her. Everyone thought she was just doing a bit. She kept saying, “I’m the culprit, I’m the culprit,” consistently throughout the trial, never once changing her tune, and nobody took her seriously until evidence was found that proved her guilt.

There is also one more point I wanted to make about this but it has spoilers for TheAfter so I'll wait till you've seen that.

Once I saw an otherwise decent DR playthrough where the two Let's Players hated EVERY culprit (okay, there were some exceptions, like Kaede) for exactly this reason, failing to consider that these are teenagers who of COURSE don't want to die. Highlights included comparing Kirumi to a cannibal for feeding Ryoma to piranhas, speculating that Gundham killed Nekomaru because he was a robot (what?), and straight-up making spitting noises at several points during Mondo's backstory dump. It got quite annoying. And now I've grown to really resent that point of view, especially when the "how dare you try to win the trial!" thing comes up against people who killed in the heat of the moment, or by accident, or other such things. Sorry these kids don't want to die, I guess!--Timeline Anon

People who make these takes clearly have never been in a life-or-death situation before. I haven’t, and I never wish it on anyone but when your very life is on the line, you will do whatever it takes to survive. This is especially true for Chapter 1 murders where the killing happens before the Class Trial system is revealed and the culprit is panicking big time.

Plus we often have the rival character confess to every murder when slightly prompted (Thanks Nagito and Kokichi) so if you have someone like that, people aren’t gonna believe you without evidence.

And yeah I will run things by you when I get through The After. I will give a fair warning that while I will go through the prologue and Chapter 1 like a normal person, Chapter 2 I will analysis with extreme detail because well seeing as it’s the reason SDRA2’s Chapter 4 is the way it is, I want to see what we could have gotten if LINUJ didn’t decide to be insecure about his writing.

And some Let’s Players can be insufferable like that, and it only got worse during 2020 when there a massive spike of interest due to COVID giving everyone free time, where it’s clear some were doing it for clout. This is why I only watch those who had a interest before it was cool to do so.

Honestly dude, same here - I rather have David be the blacken then be alive since I think my issues with his surviving is that given how much he manipulated and tricked people so far; I think you have to be an idiot to fall for his manipulation and I can't imagine the DT cast here being that stupid.

It's how I view Nikei surviving pass chapter 4 given how he lie to the whole cast and hurt others, even indirectly killing Shinji and was planning to kill everyone, I can't imagine many of the cast trusting him or willing to work with him because he lie to all of them.

That's what I think is gonna happen with David, he's a one-trick pony that would be useless after this trial if he's alive since now he's a manipulator and manipulators usually manipulate unsuspecting victims. Mod Poi

If it makes you feel better, you've succeeded over Freeze and Bubbles in one area: you haven't gotten anyone to harass you like they have. Someone falsely reported Freeze's blog for sexual themes because Freeze had Mahiru end her friendship with Hiyoko, and Bubbles had a Kanade fan spew vitriol at him because he likes Hibiki better. But you haven't had anyone harass you like that, so you must be doing SOMETHING right.

//Technically, you're right on that front, and I think that the majority of the reason why I haven't gotten any significant criticism about the way I write is that I'm only just starting to begin the story, and my writing certainly isn't that well-written or that barley almost any of the hate anons have an actual thought of how alternate history works or functions, hence why I haven't gotten criticism over the plot, the character, or the worldbuilding.

//I promptly deleted those asks once they appeared on my ask box, but other than those two incidents about Nagito and how much on an unlikable douchebag I made him, as well as one instance where a Hiyoko fan tried to shame me over not including Hiyoko in the story, despite the valid explanations and reasoning as to why I haven't included Hiyoko in the story, and why not making her an addition to the story and letting her have a more prominent role was actually well-intentioned mercy kill in terms of the absolute tone of this world. Considering the dark tone of the storytelling, and in a world where the literal opponents of the Quantum Crew are basically well-trained, well-financed, and incredibly skilled men who are basically leading an authoritarian and radical regime in their geopolitical conflict with the USA, Hiyoko wouldn't be able to do much. Even Poi herself reaffirmed my argument by giving me supporting details as to why Hiyoko wasn't there yet more questionable individuals such as Fuyuhiko and Peko were in the mix.

//Other than those two confrontations alone, I haven't received any significant hate towards me personally or at the story since the Hiyoko-Freeze debacle and how much of a disastrous shitstorm it became. I know Bubbles received criticism about Hiyoko during the entire chaotic mess that ensued, but Freeze took the absolute brunt of the entirety of the criticism towards his writing and characterization of Hiyoko and Mahiru's relationship, with most of the directed criticism being nothing more than spiteful, rage-induced, hate-filled comments about Freeze's treatment of Hiyoko and the Hiyoko stans relentlessly assaulting him as they unleash their holy wrath upon him, simply because he dared to criticize their queen, just like with Meatcanyon and the Talyor Swift fans.

//I wholeheartedly recall myself being the most vocal and avid supporter of Mod Freeze, throughout the entirety of the drama, constantly having his back and giving explanations and facts as to why almost half the criticisms towards him were unnecessary and inaccurate. I admit that Freeze could've handled Hiyoko's writing in that arc a lot better, as even I wasn't shy to give him some criticism over his bashing of Hiyoko, but there's a clear difference between giving some well-intentioned and lighthearted criticism and trying to get his blog canceled by falsely claiming that his chapter about Mahiru ending their friendship with Hiyoko contained sexual themes simply because he wrote something that the fan didn't like. THAT'S unhealthy amounts of toxicity, and I'm honestly relieved that I came to Freeze's defense, because the situation could've ended far worse than it did.

//As for Bubbles, I don't think I need to offer much of an explanation, because he absolutely ROASTED that fan's miserable excuse of an argument, MoistCritikal style. This might go down as one of the worst attempts at defending a character that I've ever seen, not to mention a character as bland and forgettable as Kanade. Hell, that could've been me that that piece of an argument was directed to, and I would still manage to come out on top because that's how awful that fan's defense actually was. Highlight was the part when he described Hajime as a self-insert, a comment that is nonsensical yet hilarious at the same time.

//Perhaps, as the story continues, I might receive some criticism towards how I handle my characterization, but for now, it seems as if I'm the blog with the least amount of drama, which is honestly a great yet also worrying thought.
