I'd like to share some information to people who enjoy emulating GBA games, especially on android. So here's the thing, I've been itchy to do online linking/multiplayer on GBA emulation, especially Pokemon games, and already spend quite some time to find both ways and people who are interested in it. Then I found an old thread in pokecommunity website saying this:
"Long story short, I have zero friends in real life, and I haven't been able to find a community for users of the GBA Emulator "MyBoy" to gather and link up. So, I figured I'd see if anyone here was interested. The purpose of this thread is to gather anyone interested in linking up on MyBoy and Trading or Battling on Gen 3. Post in here to find some partners willing to link up and have some fun :3."
Well that pretty much describes my intention almost perfectly. But that thread was years ago and already locked for comments. As far as I know, MyBoy has never be able to link you online with other people far away, at least not with the emulator alone. Simply put it can't. But there are other emulators, specifically on Android, that have their own/built-in online multiplayer for GBA games.
The main emulator I used to do online multiplayer is called Multigba S. I'm sure some or even many people here already heard about this emulator. Despite still not yet giving a really good experience in online multiplayer, I can say it's still the best way to do online multiplayer on GBA.
To simplify the reading, here's the main features of Multigba S that you need to know:
- Free/ No paywall features
- Offline/ Singleplayer mode
- LAN mode (for connecting 2 nearby devices to play multiplayer)
- Netplay/ Online Multiplayer mode (for connecting 2 devices via internet to play multiplayer, world wide, cross countries)
- Easy Netplay setup (just need to login via google, no IP address sharing)
- Build with mGBA core, the best and most compatible GBA emulator
- Player 2/guest doesn't need to have the ROM to join the host server
- Can connect 2 different games (Like Pokemon FireRed with Emerald)
- Build-in text chat when playing multiplayer
- Supports both hardware controllers and virtual/on-screen/touch based controller
- Capable to link the emulator from android to windows (with BlueStack)
Tumblr media
The image you see is the emulator's Public Server where people find each other and available servers online. I found most Multigba S users are Spanish(?) that play Pokemon Quetzal and barely see other people that speak English that play other GBA games. From what I read and experienced, the online multiplayer requires a pretty stable connection and high-end/flagship phone specifications from player 1/host side to get a smooth/stable gameplay. You can do the online multiplayer on low-end/budget phone, it works, but the disadvantage will be felt by player 2/guest as they'll likely get lags. But alas I can finally fulfill my Pokedex and play games like Zelda 4 Swords with foreigners. I have some more interesting GBA games with multiplayer mode that I can host, both vanilla GBA games and Pokemon romhacks like Unbound and some Emerald hacks.
There is also a Discord server to gather GBA players to find each other to play multiplayer online together, also for technical supports like save file transfer, multiplayer set up and such.

Just saw someone saying that "multiplayer" in the game they liked completely changed their mind to play it (but still played because there wasn't "talking" and "chatting" functions, still sounded like they weren't happy) Was surprised, because "multiplayer" games as an "open world" are one of my favs, I didn't know it can push people away? Not a lot of current ones but old ones, where you could just open this one online site with this game and there are hundreds dudes all over writing funny stuff in chat and you have fun just for the sake of fun. The ones I used to play on were all cancelled or changed to the extend where "fun" is no more fun. And I think games where you play as a quiet creature among similar creatures who's ability to talk is only through your body language is wonderful. You don't have to talk, you all mind your business, but there are little occasions where you might interact or help each other and this happens so natural, it doesn't feel forced, it gives happiness. And you both just quietly stare at each other and give any sign that game might suggest you to show the gratitude. Such games are so sweet in their comfort of being quiet

I would just like to state for the record that my top three bg3 characters are 1. Karlach 2. Lae’zel 3. Minthara.
Yes I do realize that I just like the scary ladies who do a lot of damage in battle, this is because I have taste.

Two-versus-two tag-team fighting game Saturday AM: Battle Manga announced - Gematsu
Tumblr media
Son Studios, the studio behind the upcoming anime-inspired arena fighting game Netcode Warriors, have announced Saturday AM: Battle Manga, a two-versus-two tag-team fighting game featuring characters from Saturday AM manga like Apple Black, Clock Striker, Massively Multiplayer World of Ghosts, and Soul Beat. Platforms and a release date were not announced, but all major console and PC platforms are under consideration.
“For eleven years, Saturday AM has focused on crafting deep stories with fresh perspectives from a range of nationalities and cultures,” said Saturday AM founder and publisher Frederick L. Jones in a press release. “Anime aside, there is something so rich about giving our fans a chance to interact with our characters in such a dynamic, interactive manner as a videogame and we’re thrilled to do so with an amazing group like Son Studios.”
Son Studios CEO and game director Jesse Segun-Oside added, “The tag fighter space is one I’ve loved since childhood and always dreamed of leading a project in. Kicking things off with these characters is the perfect way to bring that vision to life—with impact.”
Here is an overview of the game, via Son Studios:
About
Saturday AM: Battle Manga brings fan-favorite original manga characters from Apple Black, Clock Striker, Massively Multiplayer World of Ghosts, Soul Beat, and others into an accessible but mechanically rich tag fighter. Each fighter offers a completely distinct game-play feel, with easy-to-learn controls built around classic motion inputs and competitive depth built in. The game features stylized visuals with boutique animation techniques to capture an expressive, manga-like presentation unique to each of the original artists, evoking the aesthetic of panel-driven storytelling while keeping game-play crisp and readable.
Key Features
Two-versus-two tag battles that emphasize creativity, adaptability, and team synergy.
Each character designed with unique mechanics and play styles—no clones.
Stylized 2.5D visuals utilizing limited animation for a bold, manga-inspired look.
Built for both casual enjoyment and competitive mastery.

I'm usually adverse to whatever the fuck Bungie puts out these days, given how the game I liked playing now being just something else entirely. No, I'm not talking about the Marathon remake. Destiny 2 (2025) is such a different game mechanically from Destiny 2 (2017).
The gunplay in it was so important to PVE and PVP, with abilities really being used for utility. I have played the game on and off enough to really see it turn from "Tight gun-play with abilities to support that gunplay" to "Warframe but slightly worse and more annoying". It also goes to prove that when DE really gutted the core Warframe experience to make Conclave remotely enjoyable and balanced, they were right. Crucible really is ability hell; a first person MOBA without the modes to really support it.
Marathon (2025) is something I was adverse to on announcement, mostly due to the fact that Extraction Shooters are extremely niche despite their presence. And Bungie can't really bring the same level of fresh perspective they did for that genre for what they did for bringing MMO elements to the Multiplayer Action Shooter. What they have brought is a sick af aesthetic and their gunplay to it.
The chance for Bungie to actually make a proper PVP shooter that isn't hampered by balancing a whole sandbox of abilities and weapons against each other is actually enticing.

[ PALM ] sender and receiver avoid / ignore the stresses of real life together. (yuichi & karachan, any verse uwu)
This is the fifth match in a row that Ookurikara has won and he almost feels bad because of course Yuichi had to go and pick Pikachu of all characters to play as-- maybe he'll throw the next match just to give the poor electric mouse a break.
Ookurikara has become used to Yuichi dropping by, after all Saseki does live right downstairs. Somehow this resulted in them hanging out to play video games, and Ookurikara is starting to realize there is such as thing as being too good at something... Should they find something else to do? All of the other games he owns are RPGs...
