You might be right. I have no idea what the future has in store or if I'll come to regret it. But I've already stated my reasons. As it stands, with the year-long process we've already started and that we can't just flip on a dime overnight, my partner can't come and stay in Europe legally just like that. Legal immigration is not that easy in one way or the other. Also... Yeah, I've stated that before, but one shouldn't underestimate how shitty things have been getting in Europe for the past few years as well, and how the influence of the US (which is huge) is likely to make things worse. So again I'm not 100% sure whether that'd have been better anyway.

Also also... Ima be real, I've shared that before, but the time where I was separated from my partner due to the travel ban was the only time in my life where I had actual suicidal ideation. I don't want this to happen again. That's why I'm making moves so it doesn't, first and foremost.

Hello! I hope this isn’t too intrusive a question, but someone I love very much much is intersex and a trans women. She’s had really transmisogynystic and transphobic experiences in the intersex spaces she’s tried in the past. However she’s told me recently that she wants to learn more about her own history, body and identity. I think I know some of how to help her, but the community part is…. Just so dire. Are there any spaces you know of for intersex TMA people? Or that are at least not actively hostile and harmful? (I think she’d prefer online to in person anyways.) Thank so much for any help you can provide! I’ll pass it all along to her directly!

i'd love to say that i do but unfortunately im in the same position. any intersex pocket of the internet i've found or started to feel like i belong in has largely been very tme focused and very transmisogynistic. if any of my followers knows something please do add but this might be something we have to build ourselves rn

I'm watching this (very interesting) Arte documentary right now, and first there was a Dutch scientist speaking English, while a German narrator spoke the translation of his words into German in the foreground. Then a few minutes later there were a bunch of people speaking French in the European Parliament while it was, again, dubbed into German for the documentary.

But like... my ears are compelled to listen to both things at once! I can't help but listen to the interesting accent the Dutch guy has in English, or recognize words and phrases the people are saying in French, at the same time as I'm trying to focus on the German foreground dubbing.

It's so overwhelming, I hate it, and I so intensely wish documentaries would blank out the background audio completely when dubbing over it >:(((

sometimes people who struggle like to make jokes or find positives about their condition that causes them to struggle so they can escape the constant negative and struggle. sometimes autistic people will say things like "the 'tism" or use the "autism creature" or say their autism helped them have a *positive trait* to feel better about their struggles. because living your life only focusing on the struggles and negatives is depressing and makes it hard to want to live, even if those struggle take up 100% of your life and you can't actually escape them. sometimes any little seemingly positive thing can help a lot.

but there's so many other autistic people that hate when we do that and call it "reducing autism to a cute trendy thing" and say it takes away from *their* struggles and is bad and shouldn't be used. maybe *you* want to only focus on your struggles, but some people can't live in constant negative and need some positive or to find ways to make their condition more positive so they can feel better about living with their struggles. life is hard. I take anything I can get.

I cant get jobs. I can't make and keep friends. I can't get help and support for doing "normal" things so sometimes I go weeks without being able to shower and without eating more than a bowl of cereal a day. most times can't even do things I like. struggle to communicate. have meltdowns. i'll never be able to live independently. I struggle a lot. but instead of sitting here always depressed and having no motivation to live, i'd rather try to joke about "my 'tism is acting up again" when i'm struggling (just an example. don't think I ever actually used the 'tism thing but i saw others use it) or say "i'm just being a creature" when I need to stay in my dark room because everything is too much and I personally find it cute to be a little creature meant in a positive way. i'm not actually downplaying mine or anyone else's struggles. I still acknowledge them and that silly jokes dont make them go away. i'm not trying to be trendy. i'm not doing any of the things people say we do by making silly little jokes. i'm using the silly little jokes to convince myself life can be a little more than pointless, painful garbage all the time.

hot take but i can't stand the "look it up on google before you ask dumb questions" crowd. discussions are so important. sharing info by word of mouth is more powerful than any search engine, any youtube video or dissertation. if someone approaches you online with genuine questions like "what is decolonization" or "what is genderqueer" in response to a post you made, saying shit like "just look it up moron" is alienating someone who wanted to be taught and you shut them down.

"but nat it's not my job to educate people--" actually, it is. if you believe in a better future for everyone, it is 100% your responsibility to educate someone who asks you for help. we are a collective human species and if we're ever going to move toward worldwide harmony we must be willing to have calm and open conversations with people who don't understand.

when you say things like "just look it up online" you're closing a door of humanity in someone's face.
