Color Guide for matching Festival Genes + Primal Eyes
Now i want to say this is not meant to be some definitive guide. These are just my attempts at matching colors as closely as i could find with what's available on the color wheel currently. Some of which were quite tricky to find a good match for (or is maybe not even the best use for the gene, looking at you Crystalline...). Will list the colors used for the scries above, but I'll also have some notes for some other similar matches or other color ideas. Overall, this was just a fun little project to work on as the genes released, and maybe some will find some use from it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Light: Sanddollar (Flaxen is a very close 2nd, if you want a very slight warmer color. Banana could also pass, but i find it a little too dark compared to the eyes)
Lightning: Robin (This one's tricky since the color IS the lightning rather than the outline, but Robin is bright enough to give the illusion of being white with a matching blue outline. Aqua is a close 2nd, but again is a little to dark in comparison)
Fire: Sunshine (Saffron if you want darker, more orange fire. Marigold if you want a lighter, more yellow fire. Sunshine is the middle ground of these two. All 3 of these match very closely, so up to your personal preference here)
Arcane: Bubblegum (Matching to the little runes. If you want to match to the eyes themselves, Orchid is the closest match without being too dark in color)
Plague: Vermilion (Berry if you want something less egregiously bright. But i do think Vermilion is technically a closer color match, tho both are very close. If you want a color flipped match, Chartreuse matches the colors pretty well, or Crocodile is you want a similar pallet but less bright (and also has a slight bit more red to it's accents). Bonus color: while it doesn't really match the eyes, Red has a very good Plague-y vibe, if you're a fan of the red+green aesthetic)
Earth: Pumpkin (This one has been the most difficult one to match with all the colors going on with both the eyes and genes. But it leads to a bunch of potential options that just kinda almost match. Ultimately tho there's not really a perfect match for these, just go by your own preference. Ginger matches close for a solid color match. For multi-toned picks, some other good options are Caramel, Peach, Ivory, Seafoam, and Cream. Sadly there's not really any colors that adds more pink secondary tones. (also as an added bonus for these: if you want to match with the geode currency used for the festival: teal, ultramarine, and splash are some good picks)
Ice: Eggplant (Indigo if you want just a very slight more saturation, but ultimately the two are nearly indistinguishable from each other. if you want some really dark blue ice in the same hue, Sapphire works well. If you want a lighter ice color: Sky, Periwinkle, Twilight, and Storm are the closest without going just full on white)
Shadow: Grape (Royal or Violet for a more subdued color, tho i find them a little too bright. The strong highlights on this gene make it tricky to match perfectly, especially when we don't have many darker purples as is. But at the same time, you really can't go too wrong with most of the purple range with this gene, it's just a matter of preference)
Wind: Peridot (Not much to say about this one. This color is incredibly spot on. I guess, if you want something a little darker, Pear matches the darker tips of the eyes)
Water: Cornflower (The whole Lapis-to-Sky range works here, for varying degrees of saturation and brightness, but i think overall Cornflower has the best balance out of all of them? (it looks the closest on adult dragons at least). Idk, this one's really tricky too xP And i am once again painfully reminded that we don't really have any good super vibrant colors in the sky blue range T___T All the closest colors are either too green or too faded. Also as a bonus option: If you want a foamy look, Ice and Pistachio work really well for this)
Nature: Orca (I initially thought Peridot would win this one, but then Orca came out of nowhere. Peridot's still another good option tho, the flowers are just a little more on the green side than the ones on the eyes (but they do match with the actual 'eye' part of the eyes). Also for a bonus color, Pearl also looks really nice paired with nature eyes, even tho it does have a lot of purple in the vines. the leaves and flowers still match really well. And as far as i can find, there's not really a good way to match the vines to the vines of the eyes, since that parts seems to stick to darker colors and browns)
#flight rising#scrying workshop#cobalt speaks#long post#sorry i do a lot of rambling here ;^^#maybe some peeps can find better color matches for some of these than i could#but i had a lot of fun putting these together!

Changbai the Icewing
[Image Description: A digital drawing of an Icewing dragon named Changbai. He is a light slate blue with white underbelly markings that resemble a mountain range and freckles like snow. His face, inner ear, back of his neck and tail are all also white. His horns, claws, hooves and diamond markings on his snowflake shaped wings are all a dark periwinkle, with his horns being antler like. His primary and secondary wings are white while his covert feathers are periwinkle. He has two long whiskers and thick eyebrows that swirl similar to some depictions of the loong. He is posed, flying in place /.End ID]

✧・| dragon's spine — venti
— a cloaked figure. they never speak, nor attack. they'll lead you to safety, yet be labelled as a cautionary tale. filled with melancholy, venti begins his venture into the snowy paths of vindagnyr.
content warnings: immortal!reader; reader referred to as [y/n]; they/them pronouns for reader; hurt/comfort; very platonic coded; secondary characters appearance; mentions of corruption; rumours? but like positive? idk.
this oneshot has been requested by anon!
A tale old as times.
The legend that sends shivers down your spine.
A story about the mountain etched in ice.
Where silence thrives, and unknowing adventurers pay the price.
Venti bows as his song comes to an end. One he sang many times. A poem that patrons all over Mondstadt have come to love. And yet, it has been turned into a cautionary tale for any soul venturing into the snowy peaks of Dragonspine.
“So…” The bard tilts his head, expectantly. “What do you think?”
“Your performance never ceases to amaze me, dear Venti,” Dahlia’s voice is kind. His periwinkle eyes, however, don’t seem to match. They’re full of melancholy, pondering and wondering. “I can’t seem but to wonder…” What is the ballad truly about? That’s what he’s thinking of.
Venti has been asked about the origins of this particular song more than any other. It’s not a surprise, really. From all of the tales of the past, present or future, this one seems to be more mysterious than others. The legend of Durin is well known to the city folk. That’s precisely why they’re this interested. The song is clearly not about the abyssal dragon.
And as such, a question arises. Who does the song actually depict.
“Another brave soul made its way to Dragonspine.” Dahlia sighs. “Same sightings?” Venti asks, taking a sip of his drink. “Worse, if I can even word it as such.” The rumours. A cloaked guide? Or perhaps a monster in disguise. Many adventurers have reported the creature to the authorities.
‘They lead me to safety.’ ‘They hide the second you stare at them for too long…’ ‘I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a glimpse of them near the crystallised corpse.’ Both the Knights of Favonious and the Church of Barbatos have heard these words before. It alarmed both parties enough to launch an investigation. And yet, as predicted, nothing was recorded.
“Dear friend, are you alright?” Dahlia asks. Venti must’ve been overthinking the case for a longer second now. He hums, taking a swig of his drink. “But of course!” A smile graces his face. Even if his heart is laced with wonder.
Not many souls survive the feat that is Dragonspine. Even less get to, presumably, stay there for a long time. Albedo is one, but well, he’s anything but regular. A place filled to the brim with Durin’s energy. Somebody living in such conditions? Unheard off.
The chair scrapes against the floor. “Dahlia,” Venti says with unusual seriousness in his voice. “I’d like to make a formal request to the Church.” “What can the church assist you with?”
“Allow me to venture into Dragonspine.”
The snow crunches under Venti’s feet and the coat feels too heavy. It makes it difficult to raise his arms and it’s too hot under it. Curse Dahlia and his over-caring nature. Curse the annoying rules set in place for any ‘civilian’ to venture into the cold.
“If you get injured,” An adventurer begins. They’re opening the map of Dragonspine and pointing to a specific point on the map. “This is where Captain Albedo’s camp is.” Venti nods.
It’s not like he already knew that. He knows everything. This is just a formality. One made to not raise suspicion. Gosh, the coat is too warm!
“Got it!” He says, departing even quicker. Armed with a bag full of provisions he’s off into the rigorous land of snow. The plan is still in his mind. ‘Send out search parties if I don’t return in a week.’ He told both Jean and Dahlia. Having more than one official informed was better than none, after all.
A melody would be splendid right about now. Well, so would an adventuring party be. What can a singular bard do, after all? With how fluffy his overcoat is, drawing his bow feels difficult. If only he was not trying to blend in with the children of Barbatos. Then, perhaps, he’d have more freedom. How ironic…
He sighs, a tiny puff of smoke appearing in front of his eyes. It’s too chilly for his liking.
’S-so cold…’ Venti instantly turns around. Aimed for the worst. And yet, it’s empty. The snow. ’It hurts…’ The wind sobs. That’s right. It’s in the air. The cries of agony thrown into ether. It’s worrisome. A ferocious fighter Barbatos is not. Doesn’t erase the fact that he could save the potential victim. Taking a break near one of the lit torches, he takes out the map. Gauging the fastest way to reach Albedo without drawing attention to himself, that’s the plan. He hums and tuts. Wondering if it’s possible to get there before sunrise.
Just as he lifts his head to figure out the timing, he notices something in the distance. A cloaked figure? Very likely a human one. Not an adventurer. Not a fatui skirmisher either, them with their silly uniforms. Venti blinks a few times, trying to get a better look.
As if on cue, they seem to notice. The piercing teal eyes locked right onto them. The escape must be swift before the person arrives. Surely that’s not… Lord Barbatos? Unfortunately, they seem to slip on the once puddle as they turn around to flee.
“Knock, knock!~” Venti’s cheerful voice fills the cavern the second he makes the turn. Since making it to the Statue of the Seven, the walk has been nothing but splendid. Taking a break at his feet to have some apple slices — simply delightful. No sights of the… ‘mysterious’ person either.
“Lord Barbatos.” Albedo’s voice is full of surprise and wonder. After all, why on Teyvat, would a god venture out into the cold. “Has something happened with the city?” Oh, so that was his train of thought. Misfortune must’ve befallen the people of Mondstadt, severe enough to warrant the Anemo Archon himself to visit.
“What?” Venti tilts his head. “The city’s fine…” “Then your reason for the visit…?” “Can’t a poet go on a trip?” “To the sheer cold of Dragonspine?”
The bard goes silent, as does Albedo. It’s clear that the alchemist is not buying whatever leaves Venti’s mouth. Not like he’d judge. After all, over the years, some of his actions have been more than questionable. The blond sighs, moving to the fireplace to begin the makings of tea. “Unless you’d rather drink pure spirit, tea is all I can offer.” “Tea’d be lovely, thank you!”
Multiple cups of tea and a small meal later is when the conversation begins once more. Picking and probing — that’s what Albedo’s speciality is, after all. “There are whispers…” Venti begins. The cloaked figure, who he clearly recognises. It’s not like the alchemist will know. Albedo might be aware of many things, but his connection to said guide is not one of them.
“The Dragonspine’s guide, I presume?” The blond asks, taking a sip of his drink. “Ever seen them?” The bard question gets the captain to think. “Not witness. Hear, if I’m correct.”
Over the years, many people have graced his camp. Adventurers, skirmishers, unfortunate souls. Stumbling onto his camp with the sole purpose. Survive. They always spoke the same — a kind stranger led them to the right path. To safety. And yet, when Albedo asked, no one could describe their appearance. Peculiar, that was for sure.
“There are nights where cries can be heard.” He continues. “Asks, pleas. To save them. To help them.” It sends shivers down Venti’s spine. But then… how does— “Corrupted souls have walked these snowy paths centuries after Durin’s demise. I’m sure you’d be the one clearly aware of that, Lord Barbatos.” Well, that made sense. Although, one thing was still uncertain.
Corrupted beings don’t just guide people. They don’t have the ability to feel human emotions. Then why? Or rather, if the theory is correct, how did they regain some sanity.
These thoughts plagued Venti’s mind long into the night. Sleeping in the cold with nothing but a fluffy coat was not his forte. Albedo didn’t require sleep but still chose to indulge himself. The faint sound of fire crackling can be heard as the bard reminisces over the old times.
‘I’d like to nap…’ The whispers murmur, putting Venti on high alert. The being behind them has to see him. Or saw him recently, either of the two. The wind keeps on talking, shouting, crying. Venti cannot, but to feel pity for the soul. Based on their wording, it’s a given they’re hurting. Corrupted? Highly likely.
A rustle nearby is what gathers his attention. Trees don’t make these sounds. And… are they footsteps?
Venti does his best to be quiet. If there’s really somebody there, he’d rather not scare them off once more. Given if they match the cloaked person. His movement is steady, one footstep after another. He can feel his heart pounding, unsure why it’s doing so.
Barbatos stills his body, angling so that he can peek behind the wall. Indeed, there’s a person there. Dressed exactly like the one, he had seen earlier that day. Their breath is uneven and their legs even shakier. If they’re really corrupted by Durin’s influence… this poor soul has to be hurting.
“Do you need help?” He asks, instantly scaring the person. They look around, looking for an escape route. Their movement sharp— Something shines in Venti’s eyes. Teal. Small. A gem, of a kind? “I’m not dangerous, I promise!” Venti says, walking out with his hands out. To show he’s not there to hurt.
The pendant, he assumes it’s a pendant given the brief look, is now long gone. But it brings the old times to mind. Didn’t he have a pendant like this at one point…? What did he do with it now— Wait. Wait, wait, wait— “[Y-Y/N]?” He asks.
Unfortunately, his question goes unanswered. The person shuffles away, disappearing into the night. This doesn’t erase what just happened. Or who the cloaked guide of Dragonspine really is.
As the sunrise comes, Venti prepares for the next part of his journey. He’s left Albedo a message regarding his departure. He might have been forced to use his quill… and paper. Hopefully, the alchemist doesn’t mind. Left at the footnote, is a message. Recounting his plan with the Knights and the Church. Hopefully, and if the need arises, the blond will be there to help.
If there isn’t any rescue mission happening. Well, the wind will make it known.
Long before picking up the quill, Venti made a plan. Head for the Vindagnyr’s summit. If the cloaked person was really [Y/N] and not an imposter, this place would be their destination. It wouldn’t be the first time a conman had stumbled into these lands.
The road is treacherous. Sharp turns, monster attacks— oh, not to mention the falling ice. Venti’s out of breath as he sees the Skyfrost Nail in the corner of his eye. Just as he predicted — he’s not alone. “Isn’t it beautiful weather?” He calls out. “I wonder if any of the Sal Vindagnyr’s melodies still grace your mind.”
That makes them stop. The cloak hides their face, but the pendant clearly indicates who they are. “Lord—“ They begin, voice hoarse. They crack, covering their mouth with their hands. “Sure am,” Venti smiles, taking a step closer. “Although I tend to go by Venti now…”
“Lo-rd… Barbatos?” They ask. It’s like they’re trying to prove he’s not just a figment of their imagination. “You’ve…” That’s right. He’s returned. The bard's steps are short. He’s still giving them a way out. How gentleman of him.
“Are you hurt, [Y/N]?” The question echoes in the icy wind. They catch their breath, realising that Barbatos is right there. In front of them. They gulp, unsure how to turn their situation into words. Between the two of them, only one of them was a poet.
Venti’s hands gently reach for the cloak, causing [Y/N] to shift back. As if they’ve been grazed by fire. Ironic, considering their location. “—Sorry!” He takes a step back, giving them back their space. “I… would rather not…” Their murmur is quiet. The corruption. That must be why.
“But… we could talk.”
High up in the summit lies the space [Y/N] calls home. One of the ruins not deteriorated with time. A surprisingly good supply of food, some trinkets. Books too.
“It’s been centuries Lord Barbato—“ “It’s Venti now, come on, silly.” “—Barbatos.”
Thus they began their tale. Of sorrow, anguish and patience. Five hundred years. That’s how long they have inhabited the mountain. Returning to the last known location of the Anemo Archon, they had met with the ugly. The deadly. The abyssal.
The pain of their body slowly becoming more and more consumed. Consumed for power. To devour. And yet, their body would not allow them to give up. To allow them the mortality to rest. And as such, they waited.
“I remember when I…” They trail off. “When some memories returned.” The pendant adorned with a crystal, the last thing connecting to the freedom of their god. It’s been slow. The melodies. Initially, none of the words made sense. With time, the harmony returned. All thanks to the freeing properties of the element. To help. To purify.
“I remembered Lord Barbatos being here last. Back when the abyss took over.”
“So… you’ve waited for me?” Venti asks, noticing the slightly rolled-up sleeves. “For 500 years?”
“I— …did.” Their voice is quiet. A sob escapes them while they try to catch their breath. “Could I…” Venti asks, holding out his arms. The speed at which [Y/N] throws themselves into his arms is quicker than any star.
“It’s been so long, friend.”

Just noticed shiny dhelmise for the first time - would love a review of that one!
Dhelmise: Dhelmise has a great shiny. It's based off of red algae (seaweed), and is bold, pretty, and a great concept all around. I'd also argue that the red brings to mind blood, which is definitely not a bad thing for a ghost-type.
The dark blue in the palette has been replaced with a bright, slightly desaturated red that really pops nicely against the neutral secondary colors—this gives it fantastic contrast with the regular palette and makes it a very noticeable swap.
Meanwhile, the yellow in the original has been changed out for a simple white that makes the eye stand out more (as unlike regular Dhelmise, shiny Dhelmise has the pupil color match its main color, making the extra contrast necessary). The periwinkle color stays and just becomes slightly lighter, but this isn't a problem with everything else changing.
My only nitpick is that the spots on the anchor were originally derived from the teal seaweed of the original; they should be either dark red or brown here. That's a very, very minor point however.
Overall: A great striking shiny with a solid concept.

I've never done a proper character lineup before but I recently got super into the magnus archives (it was recommended to me by a friend!), so I gave a lineup a shot with fan designs of the series! The original file was higher resolution but it was too large to upload unfortunately OTL. I'll put smaller bits of the lineup at full resolution below the cut (and maybe some design notes too). I also made a few secondary versions of the characters below the cut, but they do contain spoilers.
There will be more detailed ALT image descriptions below the cut as well since i have a character limit that's probably too small to fit all the characters in this image.
(honestly this took me like two months to do (I did a lot of it WHILE listening to tma and then also tmp lmao), and I've been sitting on the finished product for a few months thereafter because I wasn't certain if I would still like it after I left it alone for awhile... but I'm tired of keepin it in my files)
Check ALT text for details on the individual designs including specific clothing item names or facial inspirations. Overall notes for the design layout would be that: these are meant to be a "base" of the characters. I intended to draw everyone in an appearance that would suit them at their normal job whenever we first meet them, which means the characters who join the institute later are not dressed in institute attire. For those who were, however, I incorporated a name tag with an official magnus institute symbol (eye-shaped) and a bar code (for access to storage and whatnot). They're also dressed in professional wear, though I tried to differentiate what they'd wear from person to person to help incorporate their personality.
(Edit I forgot to add some details to this section cause I'm sleepy)
Some other general stuff:
As a neat little detail, I tried to keep all the people who made it to the eyepocalypse have an exposed middle forehead. I thought a visible "third eye" position would be a neat visual indicator. I also have some color-coding at play where Green represents The Eye, Purple represents The Web, Blue represents The Lonely.... And I actually had it more fleshed-out but then I accidentally saved over the document where I noted this all down (exploding on the inside). Either way it's why Martin has a periwinkle sweater since it's a delightful color but also a nice recognizable form of blue x purple 👍
What's this? Bonus doodles? Bonus doodles! (as a heads up there's a spider in the third batch down)

My designs for the main 3 numbers!!! (i didnt put x bc i draw him all the time anyway)
Yayy!! Hcs & yapping under cut :3
For all algebraliens:
They have either paws or claws on their hands, their feet area always paws tho (rip One)
They also usually either have a fluffy tail (like four) or a like. line tail? idk what to call it (what One and Two both have) but they r smooth although they can have spikes which are pointyy (One has these, X (not pictured) has some too which resembles barbed wire) (Two's tail is just smooth tho)
They do have a thin layer of fur, it is usually also thicker on their arms than their main body (though sometimes a secondary species can change this). It also gets thicker in the winter! Sometimes algebraliens can have tufts of fur, like Four's heart-shaped tuft (which also has some magenta fur), though it is rare
gender as a concept did not exist for them, since they had no sexes (they reproduce asexually) so they all use all pronouns but the ones who have lived on earth longer sometimes have some that they prefer :3 those r the ones i wrote down but basically just assume a "/any" behind those
Number algebraliens specifically tend to have 2 main colors and the whites of their eyes are colored, they also tend to not really have a secondary species/assigned animal instead having an associated shape :3 though they can have secondary species rarely (ex. my nine is a cat, though he also has a lightning bolt as her shape)
These guys:
One - she/they
Main color is purple-y blue, ik but i had to make it different from four and six also gaty refrence omg periwinkle hahah secondary color is yellow/blue bc it changes omg crazyyy
Motif is crescent moons ofc, the halo is moon shaped and the horns r also supposed to kinda remind u of that
Her horns/halo both glow, but its a softer glow when they turn blue
Two - she/he
Main color is green secondary is purple :3 i think they contrast nice but lmk if its ugly as shit
Motif is circles ik i couldve chosen stars but there is already another green character associated with stars i draw frequently (Vee dw)
Their antennae endpoint ball thingies also glow, she can change how bright the glow is :]
Also shes aroace idc idgaf i see all the two ships as platonic. cry about it (yes this includes both twogaty/gatwo and 2x8 which was literally said to be platonic,, wah wah wah)
Four - actually does not care xd
Main color is blue second is magenta :3 i like contrasting color scheme,, this one idec if ppl think its ugly its fitting but i do like it
I chose hearts for her motif bc mammals have 4 chambered hearts (algebraliens arent mammals but whateverrr) also you can make a heart shape 4 four fingers :) in two different ways!! also it is partially inspired by that one scene in bfb 4
Their design is MY FAV omg i love him sm shes so cool erm yeah
yeah it was hard for me to decide what i wanted to do bc i knew antennae would look ugly for me bc they already have the bnuy ears goin on so i went with whiskers!! and then i put hearts on them :3 i ended up being rlly happy w this design ahudkafsb i hope you love him as much as i doooo,,,
also like i said earlier they do have the Rare! trait of having a tuft of fur and it even fades into magenta omg thats so cool i mostly did it since i knew from far away/in a simlpified form u wouldnt see the tuft but i still wanted to put a heart there so i decided to have it fade like that (even if its not really a "fade" but idk what else to call it xd) so from far away u could still see a magenta heart, like on the chibis
also the heart particles appear when they get happy, this is directly taken from the bfb 4 scene,,, when they get really happy the magic in the particles gets strong enough they become a physical object and they fling off at rlly high speeds >:3
ok lol Fours section was rlly long but i rlly like four shes so silly :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3

Ok, i think I've asked about the arranged Celerond marriage, so I'm gonna role the dice and ask about this mysterious Untitled Document.
Ahaha yesss! The mysterious Untitled Document! This one has been sitting there for a while, and I keep circling back to poke at it. It's a Celrond fic (big surprise), but it has more of a focus on Celebrian & Celeborn. In my headcannons - hair is a secondary sex characteristic for the Noldor, and it's considered a very private thing. So having braided/pinned up/otherwise styled/covered hair is appropriate, and leaving your hair loose is not. I hc Celebrian as being more culturally Sindarin (they like to leave their hair loose and there's no weight attached to it), vs Elrond -- being raised since he was pretty young in a Noldorin environment -- has the Noldorin sensibilities.
Anyway Cel doesn't really track this? So this fic is set in Elrond and Cel's courting stage, and it's gonna be Celeborn giving Celebrian the hair talk so she stops flustering Elrond out of his mind haha.
Small snippet:
“Ada, which one do you think Elrond would like best?” Celebrían asked, pulling out her first choice: the green bell-shaped gown, as well as a breezy periwinkle dress that glittered with gemstones and left her shoulders bare. “I think he will like both because you are in them. Would you like help with your hair?” Celebrían hadn’t been planning on doing anything with it, but would never turn down an opportunity to have her hair brushed. She nodded, crossing to the vanity to collect the tools and various products, and said: “I was thinking of leaving it loose.” Amusement —and some other strange expression— flickered across Celeborn’s blunt face. Astarion x Dark Urge Chapter 18 - Plucking the Wrong Strings (of Rose's patience) Rating: E Tags: Angst, Fluff, hurt/comfort, slow burn, two guarded people fall in love so hard it makes them stupid
Chapter Summary:
After speaking to Minthara, the party is ready to check on the druid. But Astarion is bored out of his mind, and decides to torment Gale while Rose wraps a few questions up with Minthara. Needing to address his behavior, she pulls the elf aside to give him a piece of her mind. If only her mind didn't have OTHER plans.
Ever present was the crystalline eye that floated idly around the room. It would circle the group which surrounded Minthara's map, following a predetermined path. A vortex of dark magic flowed into its center, forming an uncanny resemblance to an iris. Though it patrolled the room, it did not set its lenses on anyone or anything.
As the orb floated around the room, questions floated in the back of Rose's mind. Who was watching them? What could Gale tell her about it? Could he make another one, just for them?
Could they control it?
Each question was penciled into her journal just as fast as they flitted through her thoughts.
Once the eye completed its third, mindless, rotation, she stopped paying it any attention.
After getting all the information they needed from Minthara, the group was free to investigate the status of the druid. Rose dismissed her allies to go on ahead while she asked general questions surrounding the temple: the layout, security, and any other topic that could slowly build a positive rapport with the drow.
Wyll and Alfira took the option to leave, both doing their best to mask their distress. From the looks of the periwinkle tail poking into the room, they didn’t wander too far. Gale remained in the room, but examined the scarce contents of the bookshelves he was forced to ignore when they first arrived.
What was more interesting were the ones who stayed, and what they were doing while Rose continued to play ally to The Absolute.
Shadowheart took the extra time to refine the markings of her map to match what Minthara had laid out for them. Every so often, she’d glance at Rose as a question was being answered. Watching. Judging.
Just as much as Rose had watched the members of her camp, Shadowheart was also keeping an eye on her.
Smart woman.
Lae'zel kept her stance while everyone around her dispersed. Eyes were focused on their leader, a stern expression creasing her brow. After their impromptu tadpole telepathy, it was no wonder she was further wound up. There was a comfort knowing that the gith took her primary objective seriously.
Well-- keeping an eye on Rose was probably her secondary objective. It was made abundantly clear that her primary was to get rid of the tadpoles in general.
Then there was Astarion, who leaned against the stone table more casually than Rose would have liked. Any pretense of politeness or decorum he offered towards Minthara had vanished. What remained was the act of looking at his nails— which were fully covered by his gloves — and sighing just loud enough to keep Rose’s attention on him.
"Can’t you pretend to be interested for a few more minutes?" she asked through the tadpole, while Minthara addressed a question from Shadowheart.
"I could, but I don’t want to." Astarion threw a glance at Rose with a half cocked smirk.
Rose lifted her journal when a soft scoff slipped out, and kept it there to hide the smirk stretching across her face.
Her tadpole wriggled with Lae’zel’s disapproval.
"The Priestess has her own ogre guard in her suite," the drow commander explained. She paused briefly to address the scrying eye with a nod. Instead of continuing its predetermined patrol, it hovered above the map, slowly rotating its lens.
Intentional. Purposeful.
Something's changed.
Minthara didn't bat an eye, and continued her explanation to Shadowheart. "Other than that, our security has been limited to give strength to the northern raid."
The cleric nodded with satisfaction and departed from the table. Astarion followed after her, looking all too eager to share his opinions with someone who'd humor him.
"Understandable," Rose answered, attempting to speak evenly despite the scrying eye slowly turning towards her. She pointed down at it, "is this how I’m reporting back to you?"
When the eye settled its sights on Rose, the hairs raised on the back of her neck. Mimicking Minthara, she gave the orb a curt nod.
It wouldn't go away.
"No, that is Moonrise. The eye wanders mindlessly most of the time. Someone is watching, for it to be moving with such purpose. I suspect either the General or another Commander stationed there."
General...?
It began to circle Rose, inspecting her. She closed her journal and pressed it close to her chest, hoping to hide any secrets it was trying to find. When she looked to Minthara for guidance, the drow had turned to speak to a goblin. Even when the drow glanced over, she didn't seem phased or concerned. The smallest of smirks hinted at her amusement at the sight.
The orb stopped at eye level, staring straight into her being. The bottomless pit in the center of the eye could have swallowed her whole. As she stared back at her reflection, her tadpole wriggled: yearning to connect.
Curious...
After tucking the journal away, she grabbed the floating sphere with both her hands and pulled it closer to her face.
The tadpole wriggled more eagerly.
Practically begging to connect.
"'starion!"
Rose snapped her attention to their distressed wizard, being tormented by none other than a very bored elf. She couldn’t leave him alone with Gale for two lousy minutes without him starting shit, could she?
The eye was released from her grasp, free to go wherever the hell else it wanted to. She had more pressing matters to attend to.
As she approached, Astarion was flipping through the pages of a book, too fast to read anything of substance. "Blah blah blah," he dramatically yawned, "boring!"
The book was then flung over his shoulder, soaring straight for the chasm that Rose was crossing over. Deftly, she repositioned herself to catch the book and leap safely to the other side of the opened ground. Gale sighed with relief, dismissing the magical hand he conjured in his desperation.
"Enough," she shot a disapproving look towards the both of them, book firmly tucked under her arm, "let’s go."
Rose turned back to wave to Minthara as they departed. The drow lifted a single hand in acknowledgement and dismissal.
Still floating where it had been left was the scrying eye.
Still staring right at her.
She swore it was watching after them as she ushered the rest of her group out of the room. That prickly feeling at the back of her neck didn't leave until it was out of sight.
A new question was added to her journal: could they destroy it?
Alfira and Wyll smiled at the approaching group as they flooded out of the room. Gale slunk towards the front, attempting to speak for Rose's attention, but had been stopped with a book getting pushed into his chest.
Instead, she stopped in front of Astarion, "I need a word with you."
Uncomfortable silence fell around the whole of their party. Quiet glances shifted between her and the elf who had nothing to say.
A rare sight from him.
"We'll meet you outside of the pits," Shadowheart decided. The rest of the party took her cue to keep walking.
"Oh darling," he purred, "if you wanted to steal away for a quickie, you could've just asked."
"This'll be quick, all right."
She grabbed him by the arm and dragged him. He hardly put up a fight, smirking as he let her pull him into an altar room at the back of the temple.
"So we're going to be rough today, hm?"
"Shut up."
She shoved him against the nearest wall. Effortlessly, he made a performance of catching his balance and giving her a small bow. He extended a hand towards her, staring at her through his lashes.
He wasn't serious.
No fucking way he was serious.
Rose smacked the hand down. The sound bounced off the tall ceiling, emphasizing just how un-fucking-amused she was finding his whole act.
Only the sounds of goblins going about their business was left to fill the space between them. When Astarion stood upright, his mouth was agape. Stuck between trying to form words and holding his tongue.
He didn't get a chance to decide.
"I don’t know if you were paying attention," Rose started through grit teeth, "but our cover was a hair away from getting blown."
"I hardly think tossing books would have been as revealing as you think."
"I'll get to that-- but let's start with that stunt you pulled while we were talking to Minthara."
He contemplated. Shifted his weight. Stared at her with a confused expression.
"You don't remember?!" She hissed. Gods damn it to all the hells. "When we were having a whole conversation in my head?"
He continued to look puzzled. Everything within her froze solid.
"Don’t tell me I imagined that," the air around her thickened.
No, it was clear as day! Not only was she hearing his voice in her head, but Gale's! Wyll's! Shadowheart's!
Her eyes bounced around the room, seeking answers within the cracks of old stone. Heart racing.
No. No, it had to have happened! Alfira was talking to her-- worried about her! Minthara got her attention!
And what was everyone else doing? She wondered.
Standing still. Quiet. Staring.
Oh Gods... her face blanched.
"Say something," she pleaded.
"You make it too easy, sometimes," his face finally cracked a smirk.
”Damn it, Astarion!” Rose shouted. Her hand quickly covered her mouth.
From a frozen core to boiling blood, she was fuming.
She waited, listened. Glanced around. No one seemed to be listening in, no goblins approached, and nothing else seemed to notice her small fit. All she saw nearby was Lae'zel, leaning against the open doorway with that permanent scowl etched onto her face. Her ire, however, was aimed at the elf.
"We're walking around freely, aren't we? Now, why would she let us go if she saw through our facade?" His tone was light and casual, as if sharing a disagreement on whether rainy days could be found calming. Despite her ire, he wouldn't let up, changing his smirk to an easy smile and gesturing to the wide open room, "we're fine! The drow doesn't suspect a thing!"
"For our sakes, I hope you're right."
"Sure, it could have been a little less clumsy but we'll work on that for next time."
There better not be a next time.
She combed frustrated fingers through her violet hair, pulling the strands out of her face. How could he be calm? Did he realize how dangerous this was?! The fact they had to have this conversation put their very plan at risk! And he was still smirking!
The dull thudding began.
Keep your cool, Rose.
"What do you think would have happened if that went poorly?" She challenged, slowly, "go on, I want you to tell me."
He already got to you once. Don't let it happen again.
"Well, we’d kill everything here." He shrugged casually, "that was the original plan, anyway sooooo— nothing really changes."
"EVERYTHING changes!"
The drumming intensified in her ears, and her very head was pulsing with each thump.
He was probably still smirking. Did he get off toying with her? That he could get under her skin so easily?
Gods, he needed to pay for that! It wouldn’t be enough to smack the look off his face, she’d better rip the flesh right off!
No, not now— keep it together.
Was one romp in the woods enough for him to dare step out of line? Does he think she wouldn’t lay a finger on him for his insubordination?!
She would.
She should!
That's not how I do things!
Oh, but how else was she supposed to show him his place? It used to always work on the others!
Others...?
Countless faces flashed before her. Too fast to see any clearly. Only the sound of bodies hitting the ground echoed in her mind, followed by a sickening giggle. Quick clicks of boots against stones approached her, giddy. Another shadow from her past, greeting her with a toothy maniacal grin.
Her stomach twisted with each vision. Over and over again she watched a new stranger flash in her mind, screams resonating, bodies thudding.
Each one filled her with immense satisfaction; reminded her of something she had once lost.
Power.
Authority.
Where was that, now?
As she forced those ideas back, pain twisted in her stomach like a knife. The reverberation in her skull intensified. Bile rose in her throat.
Then suddenly, coolness washed over her face. The visions of red flushed away.
As the icy feeling descended unto her cheek, she leaned into it with a relieved sigh.
Gods that was refreshing.
Her hand lifted to hold whatever it was that saved her. Wishing it to stay upon her feverish flesh for eternity.
When she opened her eyes, Astarion’s ruby gaze was locked onto her. He softly tutted, turning his hand over to grace her with the cool back of it.
"Your lecture would go better if you could deliver it without hurting yourself." Astarion teased in a whisper. But the sincerity in his voice overpowered the playfulness of his words.
Immediately, she pulled her face out of his hold, glaring to the side just for the sake of avoiding eye contact. This all started because she was supposed to be scolding him.
Pathetic.
"Besides the nightmares," Astarion continued, sliding his glove back onto his hand, "I hadn’t seen your quirk act up in a while."
"Stop."
The momentary reprieve from her own thoughts was just enough to regain her composure.
They had a job to do. Astarion could’ve put that job in danger.
She needed him to take this as seriously as the rest of their camp. She clenched her fists and turned her eyes back to him, prepared to shoot a stern warning at him.
The softness on his face melted all of that away. He was only trying to help, even though she was in the middle of telling him off. Whatever harshness she would point at him, gone.
"I like you, Astarion," she whispered, deflated, "but I can’t let that put the whole camp in jeopardy. If your antics put us in danger, we might not be able to talk our ways out of it next time."
"Oh but the danger is the fun,” he pouted playfully. When her expression remained unchanged, he sighed softly. "Okay," he began, sincerely, but ended with a louder, more dramatic, "fiiiiiine, I’ll behave."
"Thank you."
"Now," he draped his arm over her shoulder as they walked down the hall, "back to that other thing you said. You like me?"
"Gods," she used two fingers to pry his hand off her, waving off his teasing tone, "you get the picture."
"No no no," he ran to the front, walking backwards as she continued her path towards the pits, "paint the picture for me: how much do you like me?"
Her eyes couldn’t roll back far enough to properly exaggerate her response, "just enough not to stab you, right now."
"Mmmmh I doubt you could strike me that easily," he continued to play, "but it would be fun to see you try."
"Chk, I will see that my blade finds purchase."
"Oh, were you hoping to get a show, Lae’zel?" Astarion cooed, "of the sexually explicit kind, not the musical kind— to be clear."
"I know what you were implying."
Lae'zel peeled herself off the doorway when they got close. Her disapproval couldn't be more clearly directed at Rose as they walked down the hall.
It was fine when only Astarion was around to witness her falter. One witness, one confidant, easy to manage.
Safe.
She winced at the thought. How badly had she ruined the strong-and-capable-leader image that the gith had formed about her?
Rose couldn't make that same mistake with the others. They relied on her too much to witness her tear at the seams.
Keep it together.

am i the only one thinking the gang can split into 2 or 3 groups? (or even more if other female fairies gets added)

they kind of briefly did in "The Pirate Fairy" movie not by choice but i want more of that in either the movies or seasons (episodes)
they won't always have to stick with the whole group, it should be similair to the winx club in some occasions (especially winx club in Season 2) where they get to split into different group
what if it's Silvermist, iridessa and Rosetta? like maybe nature needs light, rain and that's garden related like flowers, plants and the trees while on a mission
while Tinkerbell, Vidia and Fawn are the bravest group out of the 6 main characters so maybe they get a difficult task they needs to accomplish (just to name something) like...i don't know...dangerous animals comes so these 3 needs to think about a solution, Tinkerbell is very creative and think about something and tells Vidia and Fawn what to do so all 3 of them saves the day
and maybe the switching talent thing again except it's in episodes and the season expands on how to deal with the switching thing more again (Vidia can become a Tinker fairy again, Tinkerbell as a Water fairy, Silvermist as a Fast-Flying fairy, iridessa as a Garden fairy, Rosetta as a Animal fairy and Fawn as a Light fairy again)
how epic would that be? (Zarina isn't the reason the girls talent got switched again but it's from something or someone else, like maybe an enemy which is NOT a fairy who has some kind of a element or something?) but this time their clothes are completely based on a certain colour based on their temporary talent
i once mentioned a series with each Seasons based on something else with some episodes based on a certain or 2 certain characters
and like the final episode from a certain Season the group but also a few secondary fairies have to team up to defeat this enemy (like Periwinkle, Nyx, Glimmer, Spike, Gliss but also Sled, Terence, Clank and Bobble, maybe even a Fire fairy who has control of fires, just a thought...Glimmer is a Storm fairy by the way) more similair to Sailor Moon in Season 5
i can understand in Season 1 the group barely get split up but in other Seasons the main characters needs to split into different group (what i mentioned with seperate missions it's only for examble)
i'm begging the studio to bring the Tinkerbell series back, not only in the movies but also in like episodes with each in other Seasons (each Seasons is based on other things)
